Her name is Peyton Sartin, I believe. Okay. And she just talked about we can drink our tea and have our supplements and all of that. But you also need other things on your quote unquote dopamine menu. So whether, whether that's getting together with your girlfriends for coffee, whether that's, you know, wearing a really bright lipstick, things that just bump up your dopamine designer bag, designer bags, your finds at common sort. Yeah, these types of things that keep us going. And the dopamine spikes spikers, if you will. So I think I would say some of these products did that for me this year.

Yes. It's the growth factors, right? Yeah. Which growth factors we know are very expensive. Yeah. And I, I sort of got into the whole growth factors thing when it was recommended to us by Joanna Vargas, who is on our show, and she. We were kind of like drilling her on what the latest ingredients are that are really worth investing in. And she had mentioned that she thinks growth factors are like the next thing. And my big takeaway from that was like, this is what kind of heals the skin from all the damage that you do. So on that note, I am also holding the bio effect EGF serum.

When I first launched, I loved it, and then I kept using it, and I love it under makeup as well. Now the only. My only challenge with this carlene is, like, it is refillable, and I love that idea. But I'll be honest When I did the refill, which is a little bit cheaper for you to purchase, like the actual bottle is glass for this moisturizer.

I didn't realize that.

Yeah. So if you screw off the top, you can see like the. The refill just pops in.

Oh, cool.

Now I had a little bit of difficulty putting the refill in and I did lose some product because of it.

I think a bio retinol is plant based. I don't have the, their exact formulation right in front of me. It says two, it's got 2% bioretinol.

This product from this brand to your point, made me rethink the entire brand.

Yeah.

And this brand will, will probably be the next big one scooped up by like a PNG or whatever because I just think their formulations are incredible and it makes me want to dive deeper into their universe of skincare. I talked about their lip oils like probably three summers ago when they first came out. They had the lip glazes, very bright neon packaging. Everything about it was Gen Z as you said.

Interesting. Okay, well speaking of Gen Z, I need to do a shout out to a product that is a total empty. It's so squished and like beloved. It's the Kate Somerville Exfoliate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. Iconic.

It comes in 13 shades. And what I like about this product so much is that it's one of those like tinted moisturizers, but it's not as light as some of the ones that have been so popular. You know, like the Atelier Westman and stuff. Those, to me are. It's just.

[Carlene Higgins]

There's no coverage.

[Jill Dunn]

There's no coverage at all. Whereas I find this is truly more like the old school tinted moisturizer where you're getting a decent amount of coverage, but it does blend in really well.

[Carlene Higgins]

Kind of adjacent to the IT cosmetics. I would say, for not quite as much coverage, though.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah, no, not as much coverage. But I would say it's like the Ilia one. They have 13 shades. It's one of those things where I feel like a lot of brands when they're. They're doing tinted moisturizers, they feel like they don't need as many because you're not getting that full coverage. I'm not saying that's right.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah.

[Jill Dunn]

But I know we, we had an in depth conversation, conversation with Amy Lou when we had her on the podcast about. She had been very diligent about testing it. There was a makeup artist that actually helped. Was it Kieran? Yeah, Kieran Bhatti, who helped her develop them to make sure that even though there were 13 shades, there was a good, like, cross section.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah, they have a. They have a deep shade as well.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah. But yeah, I, I find for my skin and I am quite pale, but I have, I've emptied two of these. I just love that it has SPF in it as well. So it's just giving Me that extra coverage without looking chalky.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah. And the whole thing about the brand is that it's. It's eczema.

[Jill Dunn]

Sensitive skin.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah. What's the word? It's like, for eczema prone skin, it's safe. Like, they're testing their makeup to make sure it's safe for sensitive, like, extremely sensitive skin. Yeah.

[Jill Dunn]

The Eczema Society has given it a check mark.

[Carlene Higgins]

So, by the way, everyone I know, sometimes we say eczema, sometimes we say eczema. It's just our Canadian.

Yeah, it's the Canadian. We say eczema in Canada and in us. In the US Y'all say eczema.

I cannot be without that product now is. I'm obsessed. It is amazing for, like, bronzing all year round. Contouring, soft contour. That brush that he created with it, I believe it's called the F4, is absolute magic.

No, it's the skin transforming cancer. It's in a compact, but it's a. Like a cream. It's a creamy. Like a cream to powder.

And Patty Dubroff raved about it on our show, and then I finally got my hands on the right shade, and I have absolutely hit pan. It is such a unique product. Everybody needs to get this in.

What makes it unique?

[Carlene Higgins]

It's that it's so layerable. And the way that makeup by Mario actually uses it is as a finishing product. So he will lay. Like, when I went to his masterclass and he was doing a face, he's, like, powdering at every step. Right. But so he powders the face, and then he puts this skin enhancer on at the end. And because it's a cream, it kind of sticks to the powder on the face, but in not in a way that's. It's not cakey. That sounds bad, but it's not. It just is meant to sort of like, be like a finishing step. But you can use it as a bronzer too, if you choose, but because a lot of people don't know how to use it because it says skin enhancer.

[Jill Dunn]

Right. And it's like, what is that?

[Carlene Higgins]

Exactly. But I've been using it, like, at the end after I powder and, like, along the temples, along the forehead, a little sculpting along the cheek, the jawline. And he has, like, three makeup products, three bronzing products in that sculpting line. And if you were to talk about level of snatch. Yeah, that is the least level. That's the lowest level of snatch.

[Jill Dunn]

Okay.

[Carlene Higgins]

Skin Transformer.

[Jill Dunn]

Got it. Okay. Just so Everybody knows, it's $32 US44 Canada with six shades.

Yes. It's. It's a dreamy, dreamy product.

Well, I. I also have emptied my, say, Glowy super gel, which I know I've talked about a million times, but I think that's just a testament to how much I truly love it. So this is the shade Sun Glow, and it is $28 US 42 in Canada. And this is like a liquid version kind of of what you're talking about. You can use it all over, or you can. Can use it just to contour. So I use it just to contour. It's a bronzer, so I don't know if you. How you want to classify that, but that's essentially what it is. But I like that it has a bit of a cool tone to it, and as I've mentioned in the past, I think that's everything when it comes to contouring. I hate when people serve up contour products that are in bronzy tones, meaning it's more warm, because there really are two different uses. So I think that's part of the reason why I love this one so much. This one is very, very fresh feeling.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah.

[Jill Dunn]

It really is like a gel. So I just find it blends into my skin really well with, like, there literally can be no chance of caking. So that's why I love that one so much. And I've emptied it so many times, and I need another one, actually.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah. And is it on sale, I wonder? Probably with Sephora.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah, I would say probably with Sephora. And again, we'll link to. To the best deal we can find.

As you can see, I've used it down to the quick. Normally, I. I just have to say, with rare beauty, their performance is something that's kind of shockingly good.

[Jill Dunn]

I agree.

[Carlene Higgins]

For this price point and for this brand, frankly. It doesn't have to be this good. It could just rely on her name.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah. I'll be honest, but I think that's what gives you the repurchases when it's.

[Carlene Higgins]

Really good and incredible.

[Jill Dunn]

Try it. Maybe a celebrity brand. Out of curiosity. But if it's not good, nobody's gonna rebuy it.

[Carlene Higgins]

Have you tried this? Any of these?

I believe that I have. I. I prefer matte ones, so I'll give the people who like mat a suggestion after.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah. This one' creamy and it is kind of like not full shimmer, but there is light reflectiveness to it. And I just think it's so pretty on the eyelid. If you don't want to, like, wear a ton of eye makeup, but you just want to have a little something. This is amazing. It does not crease, it does not move. And I have the oiliest eyelids known to man. And it has multi dimensional pearls. That's how they phrase it.

[Jill Dunn]

Right.

[Carlene Higgins]

And it's a water resistant gel, so I think that that's where you're getting that performance. And there's a little. It's a twist up crayon, and there's a little sharpener that comes in the end as well. So it has a lot of function as well. And I'm just obsessed with it. It's that kind of thing that even if you're not good at doing eye makeup, you can swipe this on, it'll still look really pretty. And there's like six shades.

[Jill Dunn]

I use products like that all the time. I'm basically done with palettes. I really am. And so all I use. All I use is eyeshadow sticks.

[Carlene Higgins]

Well, you just got your. You've got so much more real estate.

[Jill Dunn]

I know.

[Carlene Higgins]

I don't think you should write off palettes just. Well.

[Jill Dunn]

Okay. But I just prefer the ease of an eyeshadow stick because I don't like to wash my brushes, so I use an eyeshadow stick. I'm lazy, sl busy, and then I just use my finger to rub it in. That's literally what I did today. I've seen a lot of these sticks out there, but not a lot of well done. Matte versions. And so I really like the Victoria Beckham eyewear longwear eyeshadow stick. They have a few matte shades that I use all the time. They have caramel, they have trench, they have pean, which are all, like, various shades of brown matte. So if you guys are out there looking for that. Highly recommend. More expensive, though. US$47.

I've emptied one of these Chanel Le Beige water fresh tins, and one of them is halfway empty. It's 70 U.S. 89 in Canada. This one comes in eight shades. This truly is better for summer wear because it's a. It is a really light consistency, but I love, like, the water kind of gel formula feels so refreshing. I prefer it to, like, almost every other formula is more like a. Just like a cream, like an oil. So I just think this one is so unique, and it's like, what my skin craves. I wish I could wear it in the winter, but I need more coverage. But I love it in the summer.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah, the. The dupe that. That I talked about earlier this year, the CoverGirl one is actually very good. And in terms of the finish it gives your skin. I wouldn't say it's as elegant to put on.

[Jill Dunn]

Right.

[Carlene Higgins]

But for a fraction of the price, it's like. It's the idea.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah, I need to try it. I actually never tried that one. Yeah, I do want to try it, but I know it has more coverage than this. Chanel Le Beige, definitely.

[Carlene Higgins]

The CoverGirl one definitely has that simply ageless hook where it's a slight bit more skincare right in there. So you're also getting the nide and the brightening over time, where Chanel. It's just French curl, which is fine.

[Jill Dunn]

Some people don't want niacinamide in their makeup.

[Carlene Higgins]

Yeah. You know, this is just the French girl way.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah, exactly.

[Carlene Higgins]

I'm going to talk really quickly about a couple of mascaras.

Okay. Yeah. Of course.

My favorite one that I tried the whole year and I emptied multiple of them. It's hard to show an empty of a mascara, but I did. It's like dust in here at this point. But it's the L'Oreal Paris voluminous.

[Jill Dunn]

Oh, yeah.

[Carlene Higgins]

Washable Panorama Mascara. Now I fell in love with this at the beginning of the year to the point where I was getting confused if this was new this year. Yeah. Or if it was another year. But it is new this year. It was the first campaign that Kendall Jenner did. It's like 17 in Canada, like around 15 in the U.S. but I just love the wear that I get out of this. There's absolutely no smudging. I'm obsessed. And it's washable.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah.

[Carlene Higgins]

So it comes off really, really easily. And it's part of the L'Oreal voluminous family, which. L'Oreal voluminous. That's still the mascara makeup and Mario is using.

[Jill Dunn]

I remember I talked about that. I'm pretty sure when it drugstore episode early this year. Yeah. Love it because it is washable and even though it gives you this like great performance, it comes off really easy, which is so wonderful.

[Carlene Higgins]

It's got like a cone shaped brush and I just love how you can reach each and every lash. It's maybe not. I would say it's not as voluminous as the OG Voluminous.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah.

[Carlene Higgins]

But it gives me better wear. Like it doesn't smudge at all. Right. So that is for me because I have a lot of lashes. That's an okay trade off.

[Jill Dunn]

Yeah.

[Carlene Higgins]

And then of course it's blackest black. Why do they make any other colors of mascara? And then my other one that I love, but it's probably. It's about double the price. Is the milk makeup Kush high roll mascara. I've emptied a couple of these as well.

See, I found that when transferred on me. I trashed that. That.

No, this, it's tubing and I have it on today. I get so many compliments.

Yeah. Yeah, I love that one too. But you know, mascara is one of the most personal things.
