Welcome to Breaking Beauty the podcast, all about the breakthrough people, products and moments in beauty. We're your hosts, Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins. Welcome back to Breaking Beauty the podcast about the breakthrough people, products and moments in beauty. I'm Carlene Higgins. I'm here with my divine co host, Jill Dunn.
A
Hey, Carlene. And hey Pob Fam And Happy fall.
C
I guess a lot of people think that after Labor Day we're in fall, but in fact the first day of fall is September 22nd, so.
A
Yeah, well, in my heart and probably in my mind it feels like fall. But anyway, we are happy to be back on the mic together and we have a really fun episode. You know, Carlene, we're going to have to get a recap of your whole Italy adventure. I believe we're going to do that in mid September coming up soon. So everybody will have to stay tuned for that.
B
So today we are jumping into a fall topic. This is your guide to the five hair looks defining fall 2025 with the wonderful, very Hollywood esque Dimitri Gianetos.
A
You've definitely seen Demitri's work on red carpets and on the covers of magazines. He's the hair stylist behind some of the most talked about celebrity transformations of the past decade. For big names like Gigi Hadid, Megan Fox, Fox, Courtney Kardashian, Amal Clooney, his work is all over the Met Gala. He is just living on a plane and doing some of the most creative looks out there and setting trends.
B
Dimitri's originally from Greece. Now he calls LA home. I really enjoy his Instagram as a beauty editor because he likes to coin these clever terms that make for the perfect headline like the valentine bob, the.
C
Glow out instead of the blowout, the.
B
Silver tequila for a hair color, it's like he just gets it. These are the things that are gonna go viral and what's next in beauty.
A
Yeah, so it's kind of apropos. I feel like in the fall people are looking to make a change with their hair. So whether that's haircuts, hair colors, updos, Dimitri, he really does it all. And in this episode, you know, he's going to be talking about recession proof hair hacks and hair secrets behind celebrity transformations. And you're going to want to take notes and be texting your stylist afterwards.
B
Yes. And we had the great honor of joining Demetri in LA earlier this year to celebrate his win as hairstylist of the year at the daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards. So well deserved. And we had so much fun.
A
Yeah. It was celeb watching a go go. My head was on a swivel. Haley Bieber showed up. Chapel Roan, Tyra Banks. It was. We were, like, poking each other. We're like, oh, my God, look, look, look. Like Jen Atkin was there. And I really love that they do these awards each and every year and take the time to celebrate glam teams because they are not often recognized. And I think it's wonderful that they are because they're such a huge part of the image making that in Hollywood and on red carpets.
C
Yeah.
B
And what's cool about that event is it's only really the winners who are the, you know, these glam teams, and then they are presented the award by, typically one of their clients. That's why you have all these celebrities in one room.
C
And.
B
But what you have is, like, a ton of other people, outsiders.
C
So it just felt like it was.
B
So intimate and special to be in that small room.
C
So big.
B
Thank you to the Moroccan Oil team for flying us all the way to LA for that stargazing experience.
A
And Demetri received his award from Dixie. D' Amelio looked like a mermaid. She was so stunning.
D
Yeah.
B
I'm excited to try the new Moroccan oil treatment mist that just launched at Sephora as well.
A
By the way, earlier this year, Moroccan Oil launched a fine fragrance of their hair products, which I thought was a fascinating move because so many of my girlfriends, one of the major reasons they love Moroccan oil is because of the scent, of course. So they bottled it up and they're selling it as a fine fragrance. So just a little FYI, everyone.
B
Well, they're probably seeing all of these fragrance brands in Sephora who are launching Hairsty, and they're like, excuse me, this is Arlene.
C
Yeah, exactly, exactly. So that's a great one for Argan.
B
Oil if you do have fine hair like me. And with that said, just ahead, you're gonna hear all about the it haircut of the season, including Dimitri's dream Vogue cover concept and what he dubbed the next viral bob. We're also delivering your fall hair color forecast, from whiskey blonde to silver tequila.
A
And the new rules of volume, including his three step root lift hack and why Veronica Lake waves are making a major comeback, according to Demet, along with flipped bobs, modern finger waves and retro styles that Dimitri is making cool and fun and young on people like Gigi Hadid.
B
And you can watch this episode on YouTube as well. So don't forget to subscribe at Breaking Beauty Podcast.

That's right. And every product that we mentioned that Demetri talks about today we will link to on our website under Episode Recaps. We do that every single week and we're always grateful and appreciative if you shop through our links. We do earn a small commission if you choose to do so. So with all of that being said, we're so excited for you to hear this conversation. Welcome to Breaking Beauty. Demetri Medicate is one of our show partners this week. So Medicate is a clinically proven British skincare brand known for age defying results. I've talked about them many times on the show before and I really appreciate that. All Medicaid products undergo clinical testing and they really have impressive before and afters on their website. Everything is dermatologist recommended. And like me, you may have been hearing all about growth factors as the must have anti aging ingredient, but I just discovered the next big thing in skin care. And according to Medicaid, growth factors are naturally occurring proteins in the skin that support overall skin health and can help promote younger, healthier looking skin. However, growth factors applied topically are less likely to penetrate into the deepers of deeper layers of the skin. Until now. And that's because Medicaid they have just launched the Medicaid Liquid Peptides Advanced Empty Face Serum and it's powered by Growth Factor Mini protein which mimics the function of natural growth factors but unlike traditional growth factors, is able to penetrate deep into the skin to visibly improve the appearance of skin structure over time, meaning a visible reduction on deep set wrinkles. And according to Medicaid, Medicaid's Liquid Peptide Advanced MP Face Serum is clinically proven to diminish the appearance of expression lines in just 10 minutes and deep set wrinkles in eight weeks. So if you'd like to try this for yourself, we have a very special promo code. Medicates Liquid Peptides Advanced MP Face Serum is available online at Medicaid US, that's MP E D I K and then number 8 US use code breaking 20 for 20% off your order. Once again, that's MED I K and the number 8 US and use code breaking 20 for 20% OFF your order. We'll link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show.

Hello, Demetri, and welcome to Breaking Beauty Podcast. We're so thrilled that you're here. Thank you so much.
F
I'm so, so happy, so honored to be here with you guys.
A
Congratulations on your nomination and win for best Hairstylist of the year at the Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards. We were there last night. We were cheering in the back for you. So well deserved. So tell us all about where your talent comes from and how you ended up on stage accepting an award. From Dixie. From Dixie.
F
From Dixie. D'. Amelio.
D
Yes.
F
Like, I'm in an O. I'm speechless of all hard work led to receiving an award and an honor award. Daily Front Row. If someone told me 13 years ago, moving from Greece, I would have this moment. I'm like, someone pinch me.
D
Yeah.
F
But as I said yesterday, it wasn't that I wasn't expecting it. Like, I always manifest. I always dream big. And moving in LA from Greece, I always saw it. It's coming. I always dream of it. I always saw myself thanking my mom and my dad and I have a speech. I didn't know it's gonna be the Daily Front Row, but, like, I couldn't be better.
A
Yeah, you said something about Oprah, didn't you, in your speech? What did. What. What was that nugget that you were channeling?
F
Because I see, for example, my sister, she's kind of struggling to find her path, her way. And always I'm trying to advise her. So Oprah, on an interview, said they asked her, why you think people don't succeed or they don't. What? What's the mistake? And she said, people don't know where they want to go. People that don't have clear vision of the where they want to go. And it's so true, because only you can have the vision. Only you can have the goal. So no matter what, what path you're gonna take, if you have a clear vision, you're gonna get there. If you are, like, don't have very strong personality, you can easily get lost. Someone is gonna come to your life is gonna be, oh, why you don't Try this. And then all of a sudden you want to be pure stylist and someone is gonna tell you, try a little. To do nails in the same industry maybe. So I always had such a strong vision since I'm a little kid. So I've been doing here now for 26 years. I'm 41, so I started in such a young age.
D
Wow.
F
Yes. I always dream big. So even they're gonna come difficult times in life or what you want to achieve if you stay strong and you're dedicated and work hard. Let's be honest, like, if you don't know who work hard, if you don't put all the work done.
D
Yeah, yeah.
C
And how would you describe, like your aesthetic or what you're known for in hair? And where does that inspiration come from for you?
F
My aesthetic is I wanna see people look beautiful. Look the same themselves in the mirror. Feel good, feel confident no matter where it is. It can be like a bob, like very severe, like a Vidal Sassoon school, like geometrical. Or it can be castle and done like the Kate Moss rock and roll. Cool texture. So it's. Every person is different. And hair, you have to highlight the personality of every person. That's the most important I feel for me, hair is art. Hair is like, to talk with your client and figure out their personality. And then the hair has to come and complete their personality. Make them feel confident, make them feel pretty. You cannot be in a box. You cannot just be like, ah, let's do this hair. It's not just hair. It's not. The hair has to completely the continuity of someone's person, life.
D
Yeah.
C
So you're having it.
A
Meet the moment too. Right? Okay, so today we're going to talk about fall trends. What do you think the mood is for the upcoming season? Is there like a theme you think that? Or a vibe that's kind of in the air for fall?
F
Little more warm tones on color.
A
Ooh, okay.
F
Yeah, I would go. And a little more volume.
D
Yeah.
F
Because we were in an era like, everything had to be like, very polished, very non volume, like Clean girl aesthetic. Clean girl.
A
Stick it to your head.
F
Stick it to your head. It was great. But you literally, you have to have like the perfect features.
A
Base card must be on 101 million.
F
Let me tell you, being a hairstylist for 26 years, ask me, everybody wants a little volume. Everybody wants a little lift on the bangs.
A
100.
F
And now. And here's the thing, like, with all this, like, stick it to your head, all this very severe street A polished hair. Like, everybody has layers. Nobody has a hairstylist following them. And, like, make sure, like, one hair is not gone out of the the way. It's good. It's gonna look great on a picture.
D
Yeah, yeah.
F
But you want more convenient hair also.
D
Yeah.
F
So, yeah, a little volume. A little more a nice blowout. Like, old school blowout. You cannot go wrong. And I have Moroccan oil with the root boost. You can have the amazing blowout because you need the volume. You need, like, also your hair to last.
D
Yeah, yeah.
C
Now let's pretend that you're doing the COVID of September Vogue. You know, the big issue.
F
I know. I know my dreams, right?
C
So let's say that it's going to be a beauty shot, and they've given you carte blanche to do whatever hairstyle for the September issue. Something really directional that feels right. What would you do?
F
Of course I would like. I would go through the outfits to see, like, what's the mood board? They are usually how we start.
D
Yeah.
F
We get the inspiration from other clothes, but yeah, I see for this fall winter, a nice blowout volume Bob. Because with Bob, you can never go wrong. We want to follow the trend, but sometimes the trend can last one season. And then you see yourself not even in 10 years. You see yourself in two years. And you're like, what I was thinking. Like, you see all even to this day. It's like this ombre hair we had at the minute. You're like, oh, my gosh, why? I have black roots and blitz blonde. Not even the roots. Like, half your head. So you won't always the hair you're gonna choose. Obviously, you're gonna have a trend element, but be timeless.
D
Yeah, yeah.
A
That's hard to pull off, though, Dimitri. Like, that's why it's, like, very evident to someone like you with your eye.
D
Right. But yeah.
F
Sorry to interrupt you. No, I think the volume, if you do a severe bob.
D
Yeah.
F
It's hard to pull.
D
Yeah.
F
If has a little movement, if you have a little volume, if you can flip your hair right and left. Because to be honest, it's so hard not to keep your hands in your hair from all my clients. And I don't know, I admire her so much. Kim Kardashian, if you have to. If you're gonna set the hair and it has to be there. She's not gonna move it.
D
Yeah.
A
She moves her head instead. She goes like this.
F
Yeah.
A
She doesn't touch it.
F
And I admit that. But so much. If I have a hair in my face, I'M gonna go crazy. The other day, we did a look. It was like a banging. Her eyelashing. Her eyelash. She's like, do you mind? We moved that a bit. Or if it has to stay there, I'll. I'll handle it.
C
Oh, wow.
F
Like, oh, my gosh. I would go crazy if I have on my eyelash a hair.
C
That's discipline.
F
Yeah.
A
She's committed to the glam.
F
Yeah, she's the best.
D
Yeah.
F
I adore her.
D
That's so great.
C
One of the things that I really like about your Instagram, I love how you, with all of your looks, you have a little moniker that you give it, like the Valentine Bob or the Glow out. And it's so catchy. So I want to ask you for this, like, look you're envisioning for September, this blown out Bob. What. What do you. What are we calling it?
F
What are we calling it? Oh, oh, oh. That's hard.
C
I know. Or like. Yeah, because you've also, like, I've been. Again, I've been looking, but I've been creeping your Instagram. And you did the Prada Bob. That was very sleek and minimalist. That was last year on Joey King. You did the French or the French bob has been kind of trending. There's also the heartthrob bob, where it's, like, a bit shaved at the back. So.
D
Yeah.
C
I'm wondering what's. What's the it haircut for fall 2025?
F
It's the Barbie bob.
C
The Barbie bob.
F
Okay.
D
Yes.
F
Because everybody wants to look pretty, but the bob comes and gives a little more, like, elegance.
C
Yeah.
D
Yeah.
F
So it's a Barbie book because we talk about volume. So definitely Barbie inspiration has the volume, but you keep it in a bob. So it's like a twist.
D
Yeah.
A
So the roots are voluminous, but the ends are more polished. What do you think?
F
Not too straight. Like a round brass blowout. Like a cool 90s blowout.
A
Okay.
F
And the color is very, very important.
C
Color.
F
The color.
D
Yes.
A
Talk to me.
F
It's the combination. You have to find the right team, because some people, the hair color is with a haircutter or the hairstylist, they're going to compete. And let's say the color is going to give you the perfect highlights, the perfect balance, and then you're going to go to your haircutter, and they're going to chop it all, and they're like, what is his work? So you have to find to have the right team. Collaborative. Collaborative thing. So I like the. The Bobs with a nice contrast, but not to highlight. You know, you need to have some face framing, a little lighter tones, but in the warm tones a little more fall, winter.
D
Yeah. Yeah.
C
I've been loving the bob on Khloe Kardashian, but also Gigi Hadid that you've been like, the flipped up bob.
D
Yeah.
C
And to your point about color, I think we're going to talk about this a little bit later, but because it's such, like, a retro looking bob on Gigi Hadid. But then you've done, like, pink, you've.
F
Done platinum, so it's silver tequila.
C
Silver Tequila.
D
Yeah.
F
How good was this name, huh?
A
Yeah, that's really good.
C
Oh, my God.
F
My brainstorm, like, literally, I'm gonna go when I. It has to do with color, because people love a nice a name.
D
Yes.
F
Like, and I learned that from my mom. Like, I'm going to. I used to expect to cut your hair. Like, can you give me a dream? I was like, mom, when? So I remember from my mom since I grew up. And I was. I had just started at the beauty school. She would be like, what is called this? A haircut? I was like, layered haircut. And then I realized every person wants a name, wants to have a reference in their head. Like, I have the English toffee highlights.
D
Yes.
F
Cinnamon girl.
D
Whatever.
F
Amal Clooney was so beautiful. Yes. That's why I came with the idea. And then I see all the beauty editors. Everybody loves to have a nice, catchy name.
C
Yes.
A
We love it in the headline.
C
You're a headline maker for sure.
F
Thank you.
A
So looking at the Fall 2025 Runway hair looks from Fashion Month, what are a couple of the looks that are inspiring you? What did you love about them?
F
I love fashion. I love all the runways. It's where the hair trends start. Because if you see the designers, the people that design the clothes, the design also the hair is something I didn't know and I learned while I was doing in the Fashion Week, I was part of Guido Palo. Guido is the visionary. He's the person taught me actual hair. Because coming from Greece, it's such a different aesthetic. It's such a different way you approach her. And being next to Guido was. I. It taught me the whole world.
A
He's incredible.
F
Incredible, incredible. So, yeah, like, something I learned there is when the designer is gonna design clothes, they're gonna design the hair, how they vision the hair for the next season. And it's incredible. Always depends the collection. Yeah. And for this season, so many different ways you can go obviously I, like we mentioned before about the Barbie bob, but also you can go on the other hand, like, don't put too, don't put too much effort. Make sure you have a nice haircut and because everyday woman who has every morning time to go get a blowout to make sure your hair is perfect. No, like everybody wants something more convenient. So I feel the haircut is very important and the products.
C
Yeah, it's interesting because we have come such a long way with like hair tools where, you know, with the, the Dyson airwrap and everything where you can. It is becoming a bit easier to achieve some of these looks that used to be like, you need rollers, you need hot rollers. It was very, it was a very intense process. And I read a Harper's Bazaar article titled the best Fall 2025 hair trends our editors are eyeing and they said retro volume was one of them. And I noticed on your Instagram that did like a three step tutorial on how to get root volume. So maybe you could talk to us like, give us a little.
F
Yeah, it's easy. Again, my favorite is the root boost. We love Moroccan oil because you just in a towel, dry hair, spray your hair with the root boost. It's like a more liquid, deep form of mousse. Classic. The OG mousse is just like the new version.
A
Okay.
F
They updated. You put just on the roots. My secret is if the hair is very fine, I'm gonna brush my hair through the, my, my fingers through the hair and it's gonna go a little lower. Just gives this hold you want because back in the day usually you would tease back on the hair and like you don't want to have like this weird texture with the root boost. You have literally teasing without half the teasing. And then yeah, you can just use a round brush. You can blow out your hair and you have like this amazing. You're going to flip the hair on the side. They're going to stick there without falling in your face.
D
Yeah.
C
And you were spraying quite close to the root, I noticed.
F
Exactly. You can brush it through so the product goes everywhere. And then you're going to start doing a blowout. You can set the hair. If the hair is very fine, you can set it with clips and like old school rollers. But the product is so good you don't even have to do that.
D
Yeah.
A
What kind of brush? What's your favorite brush?
F
Mason person.
A
You cannot go wrong for a blowout.
F
Amazing person in general for a blowout. I like the Moroccan oil has this metallic.
A
Okay.
F
Which is easy. It's fast, and yeah, people are in a rush these days.
D
Yeah.
C
It heats up. Right. So the metal.
F
Exactly. The metal helps and smoothes out. Besides, it heats up and, like, you have a faster blowout.
D
Right.
F
The metal literally protects the hair and.
A
It'S like, holds the style.
F
Exactly.
A
So Lindsay Lohan is having a moment. You work with her, and you did a cover of Vogue. I guess it's the Czech Republic. And it was kind of like Veronica Lake esque. It was like. Did you not name it? The Upper East Blowout.
F
The Upper East Blowout.
A
Amazing. So what's the difference between this kind of waves versus, like, beachy waves or boho waves or that kind of thing?
F
I'll start from there. It's hard to do this hair, like, sweating. And for me, it's so easy to do hair. But this is literally. You have to have the skills not to brag, but. Yes, you have to have skills.
A
Brag, brag.
D
Yeah.
F
It's very editorially. It's not like if you're keen and you don't touch your hair, you can maintain it. But yeah, it's more like an editorial look.
D
Yeah.
F
More if someone take the risk and do it at an event. Again, don't touch the hair. And it's a lot of preparation is the key the way you're gonna set the hair. Definitely. We're gonna use the clips or the rollers there and the right products.
D
Yeah, yeah.
A
What are you doing? Is it like finger waves or how did you actually make.
F
So I start, I give a round brush blowout with a very, very thin round brush.
D
Okay.
F
And then before, when I finish the round brush with blowing out the hair, I'm going to use an iron, one inch iron. And then I'm going to set every section kind of pin curls, but with a curling iron. And when the. The hair are set, I'm going to let them cool down. I'm going to take my brush. The Mason person, I'm going to brush all the way through. And then it's how you sculpture the hair with your fingers, with your hands. You create the same.
D
Right.
A
So you're kind of doing that at the. Not the end, but it's like a finishing.
F
Exactly. And you can set the hair when you brush it down with some clips until you get dressed, until you do before you go on set and take the pictures.
D
Yeah, yeah.
C
It's very editorial and. And that's not something people can do at home, but there probably is some takeaway here where it's like, inspired shape of it is about curling under now, as opposed to, like, when I was doing kind of boho waves, I. I always would remember this tip that I had, which was not to curl the bottom 3 inches of my hair.
D
Right.
C
Because otherwise it would look too kind of polished. So that's how I curled my hair for such a long time, is I left out the top three inches and the bottom three inches.
F
Exactly. Yeah.
C
But now it just seems like with this trend and where we're going, it's really about curling under. Right. Like, and so I wonder if you have some tips on, like, the size of the curling iron or is it a velcro roller? Like.
F
No, well, I wouldn't suggest velcro roller because always the. The hair gets so staticky.
D
Yeah.
F
Like, and if also I have another tip afterwards. But I would use just a silver clip to set the hair, because the rollers can create some dents.
D
Yeah.
F
And between every roller.
D
Yeah.
F
The hair is not even. You're gonna have some bands on your random bands, and you don't want them on the root.
C
Right.
F
So I just like to use the clips and as I said for the static. The secret is, you know these wipes they use for the. They put in the laundry.
C
Oh, yes.
F
Dryer wipes in the dryer. Yes, yes. The dry seeds.
A
If we want to give them a plug.
F
Yeah.
A
Use code Beauty.
F
Exactly. Actually, you named it. Someone is competing here.
A
Amazing.
F
You just take it through the hair, and it keeps the hair so shiny and nostalgia.
D
Yeah, perfect.
A
Perfect. What's your favorite curling iron?
F
I really like baby list.
C
Oh, yeah.
F
Yeah. Because you can adjust the temperature the way you want. And again, if you're in a crazy rush, you can just tap it in, and it goes so fast.
D
Yeah.
F
It's ceramic, so it's amazing. Protects the hair. You have, like, no issues.
D
Yeah.
A
Okay. And do you, like, if you were in a pinch, have you ever used, like, a drugstore curling iron?
F
Oh, let me tell you, like, with all these flights every day, you're going to arrive in Paris. I remember I was planning to do Gigi, and literally from Chandigol, I was going straight to your hotel. It never arrived.
D
Oh, boy.
F
You do what you've got to do. I was like, what's right across your hotel? Like this drugstore? Let's get it all.
D
Yeah.
F
But again, if you have the experience.
A
Yes.
F
It's not the ideal to do, but you have the experience. You will manage.
D
Yeah, yeah.
A
Straight into Monoprix.
F
Yeah, get the Monoprix. Exactly.
D
Yeah.
A
Get the curling iron. Get the elnet.
F
Get the bucket with the ham and cheese. I was hungry after this flight. Let me tell you.
C
Now, another look that you kind of coined the name fob, which I love. The flipped up bob, which is like. I was inspired last night to do.
D
The flipped up bob.
C
It's sort of come out now, but thanks to Moroccan oil, they did that for me, and I don't have a.
D
Bob, but it was.
C
I still love the look.
F
It's good to have an inspiration. You don't have to recreate exactly. It's just to get inspired and do your. Your own way.
D
Yeah. Yeah.
C
I love the flipped up ends, though. I think it's so cute. Like Khloe Kardashian's little half.
F
Yes.
C
And I love what you're doing with Gigi Hadid. So what's the trick for getting this look right? Like getting, you know, it consistent all around your head, the flipped up and making it so stay. What kind of tips can you give us?
F
Yeah. If it is a bob, the mistake. People do curl it outside.
A
Okay.
F
That's the. The wrong thing they do. You have to curl it inside, let it sit, and when you're going to brush it through, it's just ultimately going to flip.
C
Oh, you brush it out, and then it just flips.
F
Just flips.
A
You curl it under, and then you use your brush and then.
F
Yeah, and it goes ultimately out.
D
Okay.
C
And then you hairspray it.
F
And then if I wanna. Some people just wanted to be, like, easy, breezy. But always I like when I do a flip because can go so big out of control, and I like it to be in place. So I'm gonna go saturate all the roots with hairspray, not extra hole. Like, super strong. Like, you're gonna find a medium hold.
D
Yeah.
F
So I'm gonna spray all the roots, and then with my brush, I'm gonna just brush it like that. So stick it close to your roots, but just on the back in the front, you can have a little more volume and let it build more free.
D
Yeah. Okay.
A
That's very fun. I feel like I can do that. Curl under and then brush. I mean, I'm in. So we're kind of seeing a return to these tighter curls. Like Marc Jacobs had them on the Runway. Did you see those spirals? Did you see?
F
Yes, I saw. I'm not the biggest fan. Let me.
D
You're not a fan?
C
Tell us more.
A
Yeah, explain.
C
This is a don't.
F
Yeah, it can be like I did it on. Speaking of the Memoir for the Vanity Fair after Oscar's party. But she was wearing this beautiful Gucci gold dress. It was like. And when I saw it, I was like, okay, Studio 54 girls.
D
Yeah.
F
Yeah. When is the theme? Okay, I'm all about it, but just see a girl on the street or a boy with a super wrinkly hair and an outfit. Like these days, outfit just. It's not the look for me.
D
Yeah.
F
If it's your natural texture, I'm all about is your natural.
D
Yeah.
F
Hair carely. And you just define that.
C
Right.
F
That's amazing.
D
Yeah.
F
But if you have straight hair or like a more chill texture. Texture. And then you have their ingles. It's not the look.
D
Yeah.
C
Okay, so we're not going out and getting tight perm arms. No.
F
Everybody do not.
C
Okay.
A
How low would you go in terms of the size of the curling iron in your kit? Like, what's the smallest?
F
I have all of them. Because again, like, I have people with texture hair. So I need to use, like, literally, it's like a toothpick.
D
Right?
F
Not that.
D
Yeah.
F
But like a very small.
A
If someone has like a 4C curly hair, you need that.
D
Yeah.
F
To define. Exactly.
D
Yes.
F
Because the hair can get very freezing. So for this reason. But my go to is one inch and one quarter.
D
Yeah.
F
That's like always.
D
Sweet spot. Yeah.
F
If I be on an island without anything, I'm going to get with me. One inch and one quarter.
C
Now, when it comes to updos, we were talking about this earlier how, you know, maybe that clean girl esthetic is kind of starting to be on its way out. But if you do want to do it and you have thin hair like mine, how do you, like, make it work for thin hair without having this gappiness along the scalp? Or do you have a hack for making like a ponytail or a bun look bigger here?
F
I feel people have in mind it's a ponytail. It's easy.
D
Yeah.
F
Let me tell you, it's the hardest thing in the world to achieve. It's actually. Speaking of, we're transitioning from the super slick hair to more voluminous ponytail. I like it to be. To be slick, but it's very tricky how to achieve it. So I'm always going to do it on sections because there is no way in one go, you're going to pull your hair up and you're not going to have any bumps. Everyone's going to be slick. There's no way. So the. The secret is the way you're going to brush your hair. You need because we all need the lift on our face. We need, like, kind of our eyebrows to have the lift instead of, like, you brush the hair downwards. So usually I'm going to choose, like, the angle of my eyebrow with the end of my eye this direction. I'm going to go all the way back. Kind of. My ponytail is going to be right above the ears.
D
Yeah.
F
This line. And I'm going to start in sections. I'm going to do it. The tiniest ponytail in the middle of the crown of the hair. And then I'm going to start taking other sections and I'm going to attach in my first small ponytail. So you have control in this way to manage any bumps. Any. Like, be very slick. And I'm gonna saturate the roots with the hairspray. I love the Moroccan oil hairspray because it's strong, but when you're gonna brush it afterwards, it's gonna go away. You're not. Your hair is not gonna be like a helmet. So it's the way and the. This day, the only trendy thing would be, like, a mid part, which I'm gonna do, like, half part on the ponytail. I'm not gonna go all the way back. And my other secret is if you have these little gaps on the hairline, I'm just taking an eyebrow pen and I'm just drawing some hairs.
C
Oh, nice.
F
Because all the powders, they're out there. Or all the sprays are so thick, so it becomes like a wig.
D
Yeah, yeah.
F
And we all. Even the wigs, we want them to look natural. We want. We're gonna plug the hairline so it's the same with your actual hair. You want the hairline to be a little more transparent, but not.
A
Yeah, that's smart. Because you can, like, sketch in, like.
C
Little hairs like you do with your brows. Which one do you use?
F
I like the Anastasia. Beverly Hills. The queen of the pomade. Yes, yes. Like, I love all of them because they have different colors. And again, let's say if you have black hair.
D
Yeah.
F
I'm never going to use a black pen. I'm gonna go on more espresso.
D
Yeah.
F
Because on the hairline, it's always our hairline lighter.
D
Right.
F
So you're gonna go lighter.
A
Yeah, that makes sense.
C
Hey, I love that.
A
Okay, we need to talk about this. Silver Tequila hair for Gigi Hadid and Whiskey Blonde for Joey King.
F
For Joey King.
A
Because this is. We talk to a lot of hair, talented hair people on our show, but not a lot. They're doing color and that Are styling. You're doing color as well.
F
I'm Greek. In Greek, to survive, we need to do all extensions, color, haircut, hairstyle. So it's what I learned my whole career, my whole life. And before I moved here, I was working for 12 years.
D
Yeah.
F
And. And makeup. I was the ambassador for a big company doing hair and makeup. Oh, wow. Yes. So we learn. Which I kind of like it because you have, like, a whole picture.
D
Yes.
F
You want to create.
D
Yes.
F
Again, as I said before, some people get very competitive.
D
Yeah.
A
That's so crazy.
F
Yeah. Which I find is so silly. Like, a makeup artist gonna have this vision. To do a bold makeup, the hair has to be a little more. Keep it down, like, more simple. You don't need to have, like, all the hair, like, the crazy updo, and, like, the most bold makeup.
D
Yeah.
F
So for me, when I do both, I just have the vision. I know what I'm gonna. What I want to do more strong and then have a balance.
D
Yes.
F
Back to the color. The same as I said before, like, you don't want to do, like, the most beautiful highlights and someone chop it off. So I know where I'm gonna go with when I combine and do all.
C
And what are you using on Gigi when you're doing, like, the silver tequila or that pink? Like, is there a product that you're. Is your go to. Is it just temporary or is.
F
It's temporary?
D
Yeah.
F
Yeah, it's temporary. Because I like when they're more faded. I don't like the colors to be very bold because to me, it can become very costumey.
D
Yes.
F
So I always like the. The pastels. I like the. The silver tequila. It's still faded. I wanted to match her dress. She was wearing the Louvre gala in Paris.
A
Yeah. It's so stunning, everyone. It's, like, very, very cool.
F
And again, trying to combine as well, because she likes the. We like the retro vibe on the hair, but with silver color or a pink color. Just becomes cool, becomes more modern.
D
Yeah.
C
It's a moment more editorial. Is there what brand you're using for that to get those temporary colors?
F
I like the Joico a lot for a little more transparent. And l' Oreal Paris has this amazing pastel colors, and you can easily do home by yourself and has so much variety. So the colors we did with Megan Fox, the sky blue, the pink one, I did.
A
I do have a question for you, just because we're talking briefly about hair color. You know, people are looking to save money. Like, I mean, I spend a fortune doing My stupid roots. And what's your best tip for doing your own hair color at home instead of a box?
F
Actually, l' Oreal Paris launched the Color Sonic. Like, it's a very like.
D
Oh, yeah, yeah.
F
It's a divide. Futuristic device. It's amazing because usually when you want to do the color and you don't want to do the whole thing, you just want to do a touch up. Like some people have so many grays and they want to touch it up every week.
D
Yeah.
F
The hairline or like in your part.
A
I read that Kris Jenner gets her hair done every second Friday, 5:00am like, it's like that's the dedication it takes if you do not want to see a gray.
F
Exactly. Yeah. Because then when you use the temporary, the powder stuff becomes so stiffy and like the texture. Nobody wants to put your fingers through your hair and like the fingers get the color.
D
Yeah.
F
But this Color Sonic device is humid. You pop the. The color in and it mixes while you go. They don't. It doesn't get oxidized. Exactly. Looking for my English words. And you can reuse it like multiple times to touch up your hair and does it all itself.
D
Yeah.
A
It's like it's got a little brush on the end.
D
Right.
A
And it's like you just put it on the roots and it kind of like vibrates or something.
F
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's incredible.
C
I haven't heard of this.
D
Yeah, yeah.
A
It was like a big thing came out at the Consumer Electronics show maybe last year or the year before or something like that.
F
But it's genius.
A
It is genius.
F
It really is on the development.
D
I need to try it though.
F
Yeah, yeah.
A
I'm always, I'm always like, oh, my hairstyle is going to kill me. Like, do this at home. But no, sometimes it's necessity.
F
Yeah. And go one tone lighter.
A
Yeah.
F
Maybe two.
D
Yeah.
F
Because make sure like the grays are covered. Can be a little more pigmented.
D
Yeah.
F
If you go one shade lighter or two is going to be perfect.
D
Yeah.
F
And it's just a touch up between the core.
D
Yeah.
C
And I want to ask you with those fun hair colors, like the sky blue you did on Megan Fox and the. And the pink and the silver tequila, are they like sprays or are they wash ins or.
F
They're washings.
A
Yeah. Colorista.
D
Is that the name?
F
Colorista?
D
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
F
And it has to be in a blonde base.
C
That's right.
F
Only way is gonna look like soft.
C
Yeah, that's what I was gonna ask about. Megan Fox. How did you get that to show up on her dark hair.
F
Oh, my gosh. It was a challenge, but we did it. Yeah. We started, like, not just all the way from black. Go to blonde and the sky blue, because in the meantime, we went to red, and from red, we went to blonde. And she didn't stay with the blonde. It was just the foundation to do the pastels.
C
Oh, wow.
D
Yeah.
A
Okay. And the last question. We talked a little bit about bed head hair. What did you make of the Prada hair this season? It's.
D
It's.
A
It's kind of like recession hair for the rich.
C
It was so messy. Very.
A
Woke up, like, a bit undone as it as. Yeah. Like, it's like you did.
C
That was total bedhead.
F
I love a little freeze, whatever we do. Because I worked when I first time, I worked with a big, big hairstylist, the fun lancier from Paris. He told me something has to be out of place when the hair is so perfect, it's boring.
D
Yeah.
F
The hair needs to have life. And I feel like, as we saw on a Prada Runway, they have this freeze. The hair is alive. There's not like a. A helmet.
D
Yeah.
F
So whatever you're going to choose to do in your hair at the end, just mess it up.
A
Just get your hands in there.
F
Put your hands, like, to do a mistake. Like, something is out of place. Look more interesting.
D
That's true.
F
And always a phrase to me gives something not crazy. You look electrocuted.
D
But like.
F
Like, if you browse the hair, whatever hairstyle you do at the end gets this little frizz, and I like it.
D
Yeah. Okay.
A
Amazing.
C
I love that. I loved what you said earlier, too, about thinking about the outfit and that kind of, like the contrast. Push and pull the push. Because that's. That's very. That's a very editorial point of view. And I don't know that people.
F
No.
C
Think about that much, but like, Prada, with the way we're talking about, I mean, if anybody wants to look it up, it literally looks like they have bedhead at the back.
D
Yeah.
C
But they're wearing very, you know, classic kind of 50s silhouettes that Prada would do. You need the contrast, so you need that contrast. Otherwise, you're just gonna look kind of, you know.
D
Yeah.
C
Exactly.
F
Whenever you're trying to match everything.
D
Yeah.
F
That's why I said before I want to see the outfit. I'm not gonna do a retro look. With a retro outfit.
A
Exactly.
F
Never exactly becomes Halloween costume.
D
Yeah.
F
It's incredible. Nothing wrong about. And there are people, like, there are people of pinup or 50s.
D
Yeah.
F
Again, as we said at the beginning, it's hair. The continuity of your personality.
D
Yeah. Yes. Yeah.
F
But from my experience, always there need to be a contrast. If you have like a very severe outfit, keep the hell loose.
D
Yeah. Yeah.
F
If so much going on in your outfit, like that's why do a snot's ponytail. Keep it simple.
D
Yeah. Yeah.
