Welcome to your Broadway Radio Grosses report for the 50th week of the 20252026 Broadway season. The one that wrapped up on Sunday, May 10th Mother's Day, which probably played a little bit of a factor in goosing up some of the results that we're going to talk about here. I'm going to run through all of the data from last week's grosses report as well as run through some pretty exciting news across a number of spectrums in the Broadway and theatrical world. But let's first dive into the grosses and you'll realize that we are down from 40 shows last week to just 39 shows this week. That is because of course the three alarm fire that happened at the Eugene O' Neill Theater. So Book of Mormon has not played a show for the last week. Plus that obviously impacted the grosses. They were down about $1 million across the board to come in at 38,297,488 bucks. That is a 2% decline from the previous week and a 12% decline from last year where we had all of those incredibly star studded performances with the likes of Sarah Snook, George Clooney, Denzel Wasington, Jake Gyllenhaal, all on Broadway in total attendance was also down to come in at 318,376 people, down 1% from last week and 5% from last year. And ticket prices were roughly the same in Those regards at $120.29. So $1.65 down from the previous week and $9.50 down from last year. Despite all of the tumult, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continued to be the leading grosser on Broadway. It came in at $2,300,083. It was followed not by Hamilton or Wicked or the Lion King, but instead by Every Brilliant Thing, which racked up $1,870,000. Then we had Lion King at 1.8, ish, Hamilton at 1.7 and Death of a Sales 7 performances at 1.46 million. The rest of the shows north of seven figures in descending order are MJ Giant, Moulin Rouge, O Mary Ragtime, the Lost Boys, Wicked, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, the Rocky Horror show, and maybe Happy Ending. The big thing to note this week is how the Tony Awards impacted some of the shows that were heavily nominated and those that were not. Of the 11 shows that saw six figure increases over the previous week, seven of them were shows that are not only from this season, but also extremely well represented in the Tony nominations. Then you had the Ballisters and Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York, which were both above $92,000 increases. Obviously both did pretty well at the Tony nominations. The top increase came from the Rocky Horror show, which brought in an extra $235,000 and Schmigadoon was at 197,000. Joe Turner's Come and Gone also did very well at 150,000 dol and Every Brilliant Thing jumped up almost $152,000. However, some of the shows that were not heavily nominated, if nominated at all, saw some declines. The fear of 13 dropped about 10k, proof dropped almost 33k. Dog day afternoon was down almost 44k, as was beaches Chess. Despite getting a number of nominations, not getting a best Revival nom or nominations for Lea Michele or Aaron tveit fell a $104,000, although that might have to do with the fact that Lea Michele called out for the first two or following the Tony nominations. The biggest drop of any show on Broadway last week not having anything to do with the Tonys obviously was Chicago. It did obviously have a bit of a dip following the departure of both Mark Ballas and Whitney Levitt. It fell $1,131,898. Who knows who is going to be the next person to kind of boost those sales, but the Weisslers seem to always know how to pull the right strings for those types of things. As I said at the top of the show, this was the 50th week of the season and in total Broadway has grossed $1,831,853,911. Despite the huge numbers that were put up last spring, we are still up 4% over last year with total attendance up 2% at $13,921,530. In total last week, of the 39 shows that were running on Broadway, 24 played to 90% capacity or more. RA and every brilliant thing. We're at exactly 100% just in time with Jeremy Jordan back above 100% just a little bit at 100.14 with Hamilton leading the way at 100.81. We are getting to mid May and lots of school years will wrap up by the end of this month. Even more, especially in the north and Northeast, will conclude their year, their academic years post Labor Day and into the first week or so of June. So hopefully we'll start to see even more tourists coming into town and juicing up some of these numbers, but fairly good overall while not having the extra bolt of major, major movie stars to line the coffers of some of these shows. All right, let's get into some of the news we've missed since our last episode and let's start on Broadway. As we had previously known, Jamie Lloyd's production of Much Ado About Nothing will be coming to Broadway this coming season led by Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell as it was in London. Now we know the when, the where and the who else because it was announced that the show will begin performances on Saturday, October 31st at the Winter Garden Theater for what is being called a strictly 10 week limited engagement through Sunday, January 10th. And the cast that did the show at Theater Royal Drury Lane in the West End will be joining Hiddleston and Atwell on Broadway. That includes Mason Alexander park, who despite being a theater and TV star here in the States has really become a pretty big theater star over in the uk. But Mason will make their Broadway debut in this show. They will be joined by Mara Huff, Mika Onyx Johnson, Gerald Kidd, Forbes Mason, Philip Aligoki, James Phoon and Tim Steed. You all know that I love this show. I love these performers. I loved his performance production with all of my heart. So I am so, so excited to have an opportunity to see it again on Broadway this fall. And it is over at the Winter Garden Theater. Jamie Lloyd setting up shop there in the fall. Could Jamie Lloyd be setting up shop there in the spring as well? It would have been really nice to do a balcony scene there even though they're not going to be doing that apparently. Maybe he will find a way to do something cool with the Des Camisados at the Winter Garden Theater as well. If you listened to the last Week on Broadway episode that came out on Sunday in Patreon and Monday in the regular feed I talked about some of the shows that I had seen in New York that had been running for a while and one of them was oh Mary. And I lamented a little bit of the fact that even though I loved Maya Rudolph in the show, I really missed kind of the bonkers, unhinged, absurdist comedy that comes with Cole Escola's take on Mary Todd Lincoln. Obviously they wrote it, so it makes sense that their sensibilities are imprinted on the character. And I said that there's just so few that really makes sense to rise to Cole's level of unhingedness. Well, I gotta tell you, they found one of the ones that I think will do an unbelievable job because just this morning it was announced that taking over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln beginning on July 6th for a 10 week limited engagement, will be one of the stars of Hacks and absolutely viral bonkers comedian Meg Statler. If you are unfamiliar with her work and maybe don't watch Hacks, she plays the assistant turned agent Kayla on on Hacks. Look her up. She has the exact energy, the manic, off the wall, kooky, never know which way she's going to go Persona that I think will work really, really well with Mary Todd Lincoln. The thing is like, she's always doing a bit, like if you see her in an interview, she is doing a bit. If she is on the red carpet, she's doing a bit often with her costar Paul Downs, who's also one of the writers and creators of Hacks. They're always doing something weird and funny and crazy. And I think this is absolutely brilliant casting. I've seen oh Mary six times and after, I mean, just a few days ago I said, you know, I don't know that I need to see it again. Meg Statler might be somebody who makes me need to see it again. So I don't know if I'm going to get back up to New York during her run, which goes through September 12th. But even if you don't know her and you just loved Cole's performances, I would recommend checking her out. They will announce further casting for her run at a later date. All right. In some streaming and pro tape theater news, it was announced today that the Roundabout Theater Company will be partnering with Broadway HD as they have in the past. If you remember going back all the way to the Laura Benanti led she Loves Me, the current Broadway production of Noel Coward's Fallen Angels will livestream on June 5th 5th. They will do it live for the 7pm performance this show is obviously nominated for a number of Tonys, including those for both Rose Byrne and Kelly o' Hara and best Revival. So I didn't get a chance to see this on Broadway. So I am ecstatic that I have an opportunity to watch it from the comfort of my own couch. Then over the summer it was exclusively reported by Variety that the London version of the now Broadway production of Giant was filmed at the Harold Pinter Theater and it will make its theatrical debut this fall, November 19th. Around the world obviously doesn't help in your pre Tonys watching, but if you didn't get a chance to see Giant, which I did not, this will be a wonderful opportunity to check it out in theaters. Then on Tuesday we got some pretty exciting announcements about a new musical working its way towards Broadway. It is called Dare to Be Stupid Cold the Weird Al Musical. And this show is going to be directed by Alex Timbers and written by Scott Brown and Anthony King who created Gutenberg and worked on Beetlejuice and is being produced by Seaview. Now this will not be either a bio musical or a fictionalized bio musical like the Daniel Radcliffe led movie biopic. It'll instead feature an original story written by Brown and King and many of the incredible songs from Weird Al's four decade song parody career including White and Nerdy Amish Paradise. Eat It Smells Like Nirvana Like a Surgeon I couldn't even begin to wrap my mind around how you were going to work those songs into an original story without it being about a guy who writes parody songs of very popular pop songs. But I'm interested and I loved this quote in the statement from Weird Al saying, quote ever since I was a middle aged man, I've always wanted to be part of the New York theater community. Plus the one thing people always say about Broadway is that it's severely lacking in Weird Al based entertainment and I think this musical should fix that problem immediately. I love it for people of a certain age and I'm like on the younger age in this. But because I grew up, I was a kid when a lot of the big peak Weird Al stuff happened. But like for people of a certain age I think this is brilliant and we could see by the way that the Weird Al biopic was received when it was released a few years ago. Like there's an audience for this. I think this is brilliant and I cannot wait to see it. All right, and wrap up with one more bit of news. One of the shows that I saw in New York recently that I will eventually be talking about is in a special episode was Jamie Allen's magic show Amaze. It has now received its fourth Off Broadway extension and is currently on sale to play through January 31st. All right everybody, that is all that I have for you. Thank you so much for supporting Broadway radio. I will have my review for the Notebook national tour coming out later today and I will get to my Lost Boys and Schmigadoon episodes tomorrow. I had to deal with a sick nephew yesterday so didn't have the opportunity to wrap those up. But stay tuned, lots of content coming over the next week with my New York trip wrap ups and then we will dive in heavy for the Tony Awards. Thanks again for listening. This has been Matt Tiamineni and I'll talk to you soon.
