Matt Tamminetti
Fiverr.Com welcome to Today on Broadway for Friday, June 13th, 2025. I'm Broadway Radio's Matt Tamminetti and I'm.
Grace Hockey
Tell Me on a Sunday podcast, Grace Hockey.
Matt Tamminetti
Grace, I mentioned this on yesterday's show, but I will be traveling over the weekend so we will not have an episode of Today on Broadway on Monday, but I will have our latest episode of Some like it pop in the feed instead. That is already available to Patreon subscribers over at patreon.com broadwayradio or broadwayradio.com patreon but because we do talk about the Tony Awards, I thought it was appropriate to put that in as a filler episode while I am out and unable to record. So you will hear that with Jennifer McQ and I on Monday, but we'll be back to regular episodes on Tuesday. And one other thing before we get into the news, I want to give like a last call. We did our Tony's predictions pool last week. I've already been in touch with one of the two winners because there were three winners, me and then two listeners. We had 40 people enter the pool and there were three of us that tied. I've been in touch with one of them. The other one I have not. So if you are acting Cat 3, please email me@Matt broadwayvideo.com so I can get your address so we can figure out what we're doing with our prize pack to send out. Since there were two winners, I'm going to have to scramble to bulk up the prize pack because I only had planned on one. But if you are acting Cat 3, let me know before I'm back on Monday so I can get that taken care of and we will get prize packs sent out as soon as possible. All right. But Grace, let's dive into the news and we're going to start out in Washington, D.C. where Donald Trump went to the Kennedy center for the opening Night of the national tour of Les Miserables. And given everything that's happening in Los Angeles, if anyone thought that the world and the universe did not understand irony, you were sadly mistaken. I'm not going to get into all of the details of this, but I am sure that you have seen videos or seen it on social media. Media. But I do have an article breaking down everything that happened, from people booing and cussing him out, to people cheering for him, to a group of drag queens who decided to come and be in the audience. So lots of absolute insanity. The irony that was in Les Mis that nobody seemed to understand on the President's team was thick and palpable and you could cut it with a knife. It's just absurd. It's another clown show going on around this and would prefer we didn't have to talk about it. But since we talked about the protest and the boycott that some of the cast members had decided to be involved with, I figured it was appropriate to send out this information as well. But into actual Interesting and good news, Grace. Yesterday the Classic Stage Company announced an absolutely dynamite new season that'll start in the fall of 2025. It'll kick off in October with a new production of the Joseph Stein and Stephen Schwartz musical the Baker' Wife. No, this is not a reinvented imagining of into the Woods. This is a completely separate story which you might know best as being where the song Meadowlark came from. This is going to be directed by Gordon Greenberg and it is going to be in the fall. No casting has been announced for that one yet. However, in 2026 we have the first show of that season. We do know some casting for it. In February we will have the world premiere of a new musical called Marcel on the Train which was co writt by Ethan Slater and Marshall Pallett. Pallett will direct and Ethan Slater will star as world renowned mime Marcel Marceau. So that one should be fascinating. And then in May of 2026, we will have the New York premiere of Thornton Wilder's final play, the Emporium. Now, it was not finished when Thornton Wilder passed away, so it has been adapted and completed by Kirk Lynn and is going to be directed by Rob Melrose. The season include some other additional programming through the Rediscovery Readings series. That'll happen multiple times throughout the year and those shows will be announced later. But Grace, from the Baker's Wife to this Marcel Marceau show to a new Thornton Wilder play like this is great stuff for CSC and I'm really Looking forward to checking out all of these shows coming up over the next season.
Grace Hockey
Yeah, you know, Ethan's fascination with Marcel and particularly Buster Keaton. A lot of silent films. Film or silent physical comedian stars are kind of his bread and butter. That's his, you know, favorite kind of like nerd brain artistry. He is such a good writer. Like classic Stage company, I think fell in love with him through Assassins. But they also hosted the Edge of the World concert. That was a concept album that he worked on with Nick. And so this was a no brainer. The second I saw Marcel, I went, oh my God, he's gonna do this at Classic Stage. And then of course I see that it's a whole classic stage season. So yeah, I just love that they've created this collab and partnership. So they work together on the Baghdaddy musical. That's, you know. But they've been best friends for years. Their collaboration spans now like decade plus. Like it's so cool to me to see them, them working together in this capacity on this particular project. Marshall has been working on Private Jones for a long time. You may have seen it at Goodspeed Musicals at the Terrace Theater. You may have also seen it at Signature, I believe last year. I think that he's also like doing research currently like in Ireland as we speak on that project. He might be back already. But all this to say, like, I think that these two people are going to be collaborators that you're going to want to watch what they do besides the fact that they obviously like, you know, do great things outside of each other. But I'm, I'm really, really excited about this project. Like, I can't tell you how pumped I am to see this one come to fruition. I think that just like seeing Ethan even, even in Fosse Verdon playing Joel Gray for a moment, you see a glimpse of his understanding of physical come of a different era. And I think that you're going to see that in spades in this new show.
Matt Tamminetti
And of course this stage production will come hot on the heels of Wicked for Goods release in the fall in November. Obviously there'll be a ton of press that Ethan will be doing for that and then it'll probably roll straight into the holidays and right into rehearsals. So very much looking forward to that. All right, before we get into the rest of the news, let's talk about our sponsors for this week and let's start with with our friends from Cash app. There are so many different frustrating experiences that you can have when either trying to send or receive money through one of the myriad apps that are out there. Maybe you've had to wait multiple days for your money to finally show up. Maybe you got hit with huge fees just so that you could get your own money faster and not have to wait on it to process through a bunch of different banks. Or maybe you accidentally sent money to to the wrong person and there's no way to get it back. Or maybe you tried to cash out and suddenly there's this processing delay with no real explanation and all of a sudden you're at the whims of whatever app you are having to work with. Fortunately, there is a better solution, and that is with Cash App. It is a completely different experience. It is fast, it is easy, it is safe. It only takes a couple minutes to set up and you do not need to have your bank information in the app. So that makes it even easier to set up and safer in the long term. So if you are traveling somewhere this summer, if you out, if you are socializing, if you are staying somewhere with friends and you need to send or receive money, there is no better way to do it than with Cash App.
Grace Hockey
One thing about me is that I go out all the time and I love to split things with people. I'm the type of person that sits down at a dinner and I say let's get fries for the table. And then somebody else will say also let's get the kale Caesar salad. And then somebody else will say, okay, and also let's do a round of shots. And eventually you get to the point the night where it gets a little awkward and someone has to foot the bill. What I love about Cash App is that it takes seconds to open. You can send out everyone's kind of private inbox voices without having any awkward conversations. And you don't have to set up a bank account or anything. It's super easy. Cash App always has your back.
Matt Tamminetti
So for a limited time only new Cash App users can use our exclusive code to earn some additional cash. For real? There's no catch. Just download Cash App and sign up. Use our exclusive referral code Broadway in your profile. Send $5 to a friend within 14 days and you'll get $10 dropped right into your account. Terms apply. That's money. That's Cash App Next. Grace, we have to talk about our friends from Factor as we head into the summer. For many people, this is the best time of year with all of the different things that you have going on, all of the vacations, all of the trips, but that can also mean that you don't have time to either go shopping or to meal prep or do all of the things that we normally do when you are in your traditional schedule. Fortunately, eating well has never been this easy. Just heat up and enjoy giving you more time to do what you want. Factor meals are chef curated and dietitian approved and if you need to make sure that you have the best, most nutritious and delicious meals at the ready, factor is the way to go.
Grace Hockey
When I started using factor I genuinely only thought it would be good for like lunch and dinner, right? Like it was like okay, great, you get two minutes in the microwave, you've got your full meal prepared for you, you can get enough for you, everyone in your household, whatever you want. But then I started adding on the add ons and they've got all these satisfying breakfasts on the go lunches, all the little guilty free snacks and desserts and all like the little shakes, the protein shakes like. It's also nice that I have all these opportunities for add ons, especially in a week where you can't go prepping, you want to go out and do other things. This is the way to get it through factor.

That's code Broadway50OFF@Factor Meals.com Broadway50OFF for 50% off plus free shipping. All right Grace. We are just a little over a week away from the 2025 Jimmy Awards. As always, they will recognize some of the absolute best talent in high school musical theater from around the country. They will take place on June 23rd at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway. They are presented by the Broadway League foundation and this year they will be hosted by the one and only Josh Groban. And we now know who the finalists are from across the country that will be participating. I will have a link in the show notes if you want to see who won the awards from your area. I do want to point one out though. I will say that Cameron J. Dansby won the Kappa Marquis Awards, which is the awards for Columbus, Ohio. Not only did she win for playing Catherine of Aragon in 16 edition, which you know I'm going to love, but she's from my alma mater, Pickerington High School North. It was just Pickerington High School was there. We only had one high school when I was, when I was there, but they've split. But she went to my high school. She won for six. Obviously I'm going to be rooting for her. But this is great. It's so cool because there's multiple awards from a lot of the bigger states. You know, there's three or four in Ohio, three or four in Florida. So check it out. Check out the list, see who some of the young people are that are representing the high school arts in your region and root them on on June 23rd. All right, let's get into some show and casting news. Yesterday we found out who is going to be replacing Sadie Sink in the Broadway production of John Proctor is the villain. Sadie's going to wrap up her run as Shelby Holcomb on July 13th. She's going to be replaced by Tiara Aurelia on July 15th. She is known for a lot of like teen focused TV cred, Freeform show, Cruel Summer, Netflix's Luckiest Girl Alive, Hysteria on Peacock, Fear Street 2 on Netflix. But I'm not, those aren't things that I've ever watched. Grace, are you familiar with any of those shows or familiar, familiar with her as an actor?
Grace Hockey
I'm not. I've never felt older and I am so excited for her to go into this show. We talked about it on the show, right, where we were like, they might have a star, they might have, you know, this is kind of like an in between. Like, she obviously has a great following, she's got a ton of great credits, but she's not like of I think like the norm, normal, like New York theater scene or beyond. So I'm really excited for all of them. Like, she seems like a great actor and this is going to be excellent.
Matt Tamminetti
And this casting isn't probably for us, you know what I mean? Like probably it's for a younger generation who watches those things and people of especially my age. But you know, probably some of your peers know those shows better than I would. But I think this is awesome. And look, if she's stepping into that role, I can only imagine how great of an actor she is because that is such a commanding and powerful character that if she's stepping into it, I can only, can only guess that she's really, really great. Then yesterday we also found out that Tom Felton has extended his run in Harry Potter and the Cursed Shroud. He was originally only going to be with the show, reprising his film role as Draco Malfoy through March 22nd of 2026. He will now continue with the show through May 10th. He begins performances in November at the Lyric Theater. And then this is a show that we've talked about a number of times and it's had multiple runs in New York City, but it is now currently running at the Public Theater and it has been extended. This is Julia Massley's Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. It was originally set to close on June 22nd and it is now playing through June 29th. All right, I will send you into the weekend with a recommendation that absolutely thrilled me. And this comes to us from broadway.com where Eva Noblezada, the current Broadway Sally Bowles performs. Maybe this time. I have not seen Eva as Sally, but my love for Eva and her voice and her acting is well known. So this was awesome. But Grace, you've seen Eva do this role on Broadway. Give us the rundown about like what she brings that either we haven't seen from her in previous roles or might be different from some of the previous Sally's that we've seen on Broadway.
Grace Hockey
It is her, Sally Bowles. And I will say it is a Tony award winning performance. I am not kidding. You have to see her. Like if you kind of like Cabaret and let's say that you've already seen this production or you haven't already for whatever reason, you should try to catch her. And I really, it's. She's truly excellent. I love her version of this. Yeah, it's just great. It's just great. You should see it.
