The thing that drives me every day as a dad is Darion. We call him Day Date for short. Every day he's hungry for something, whether it's attention, affection, knowledge, and there's this huge response responsibility in making sure that when he's no longer under my wing that he's a good person. I want him to be able to sit back one day and go, we worked together. We did a good job.

Welcome to Today on Broadway for Friday, June 27, 2025. I am Broadway Radio's James Marino. As Matt mentioned yesterday, he's currently in Las Vegas attending the World Series of Poker, checking off an item on his bucket list. But I can't help but think that Matt is really doing research for a musical version of the 1998 film Rounders, which starred Matt Damon and Ed Norton. Maybe it could be called High Stakes Colon the Rounders Musical all right, let's jump into the news. Boop the Musical, the award winning Broadway show will conclude its run on July 13 after 25 previews and 112 performances. Hailed as the feel good musical of the year, it stars Jasmine Amy Rogers in a breakout role as Betty Boop. Supported by an acclaimed cast and creative team. Directed by Jerry Mitchell with music by David Foster, the show has earned multiple accolades including Drama Desk out of Critic Circle Awards. Inspired by Max Fleischer's iconic cartoon, the musical fun follows Betty's quest for a single day off that turns into a colorful, music filled adventure of love and self discovery in New York City. The production dazzled with eye popping choreography, standout costume design by Greg Barnes and a vibrant book by Bob Martin. Jasmine Amy Rogers earned a Theater World Award and multiple honors for her sensational performance featuring a talented ensemble and beloved characters and Boop brought the classic animated icon to life with modern flair and heart. The Vineyard Theater's 20252026 Off Broadway season will feature the world premieres of two bold new works. Anne Washburn's the Burning Cauldron of Fiery Fire, directed by Steve Carlson and co produced with the Civilians, opens this fall. Set in Northern California, the play explores an off the grid community thrown into an existential crisis after a sudden death. Described as a mix of death, a pageant, a rescue, a resurrection, pigs and the act of saying grace. It reunites Washburn and Coulson following their collaborations on Mr. Burns and a Devil at Noon. Coming in the spring of 2026, Issa Davis Girls Chance Music, which is a Vineyard commission, debuts under the direction of Pam McKinnon. The play centers on four gifted teens in a Berklee music program, blending coming of age themes with live improvisational music as they confront personal and global upheavals. A winter production is yet to be announced. Tickets are available through Vineyard Memberships.

Thank you James as the listeners probably know by now, I am out of town for the weekend. I am in Las Vegas staying at a hotel on the Las Vegas strip. So as you can imagine, I am using public wi fi a lot. I'm using hotel wi fi, I'm using stuff at restaurants and casino and anytime you're using a wireless network that you are not familiar with or does not have your normal level of protection, your digital privacy is under threat. But don't worry, there is a solution that's making headlines for all of the right reasons. Today's sponsor surfshark vpn With Surfshark, your online activity is encrypted from prying eyes. Think of it as a secure digital vault for your data. Whether you're researching sensitive topics for work or for personal things, or just browsing the Internet, your activity stays private. Since installing Surfshark, I felt so, so much calmer when browsing online. You all know that I travel a lot, either for business or for pleasure. So knowing that I have the support and security of Surfshark really puts my mind at ease. Especially considering before I had surfshark, I have run into a few situations where my data has been stolen and I've had to worry about closing bank accounts and credit cards and stopping my Social Security number from being used. So it was a mess. So I am so incredibly happy that surfshark came into my life a few years ago. And the other benefit is that all of those weird ad targeting things that you get when you search for how to unstop a clogged toilet, you all of a sudden get all these ads for plumbers in your area. That has really slowed down a lot for me too. I don't to think about all of the existential dread that is going to happen when I search for something random online anymore. It is a huge win. Also hello to Geo blocked content. As I am traveling I am able to watch whatever I want from wherever I am. Whether it's the latest six episode cozy British murder mystery that I am known to love while I'm on a cruise or watching a sporting event that is normally available to me at home in Florida.
