Brooke
Hey, it's Brooke and Jeffrey, and you found the official second date podcast. Thank you for being here. And if your ears aren't satisfied enough and you would like to also visually take in what we're giving you.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Yep.
Brooke
You can go to our YouTube page.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Yeah, yeah.
Jose
Or you can look at the YouTube page, close your eyes, and guess who's talking.
Brooke
We do have a new second date video that's up today. We're doing it once a week, so definitely check that out. And let us know what you like.
Jose
We constantly get the. Oh, my God. You guys look nothing like how I imagined.
Brooke
Yeah, Brooke maybe showered today.
Jose
Yeah. Wait, don't tell us. Better or worse? I didn't think about that.
Brooke
No.
Jose
I assume we look better than what they thought.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
No, I've seen some worse comments. Don't worry. Yeah, there's some.
Brooke
Yeah, there's some. There's always some. Yeah. But today is a brand new Awkward Tuesday phone call. Before we get to this awkward call, though, what do we got on. On the comments?
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Yeah, Oxu Parks, who said I was celebrating midsummer with my family and relatives, and some drama ended up happening like always. Anyways, I was listening to you guys and started laughing while aunt was yelling and crashing out on everybody. And when she saw me laughing, she completely lost it and left the party. Love from Finland.
Brooke
Well, it's probably good you got her
Jose
out of there for you.
Brooke
Why do I like to hear that Finnish families are as, I don't know, like, dramatic, chaotic as us families? It makes me feel better.
Ashley
Yeah.
Brooke
All right, here we go. You're brand new. Oh, this is actually really appropriate Awkward Tuesday phone call for you guys.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Speaking of, crash out if you want.
Brooke
Yeah, it starts right now.
Jeffrey
If a former crush slips you a secret note, that's pretty exciting, right?
Jose
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Well, not for our listener. He says as soon as he got handed that piece of paper, he started to sweat profusely and broke out in a rash from how nervous the entire thing made him. And when you find out the reason why, you'll understand why this could be probably the most awkward of all awkward calls ever. It's coming up right after this.
Jose
It's awkward.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
It's Tuesday.
Jose
It's Awkward Tuesday phone call.
Jeffrey
Attending a family reunion can bring up a lot of feelings and emotions. Joy, nostalgia, Brooks Case, arousal oh, my God, Jeffrey. But maybe the one emotion that you don't want to feel is awkwardness.
Brooke
I mean, can you avoid it when your whole family gets together?
Jeffrey
That's a good point. But apparently that's how one of our listeners, George, felt when he met up with some of his extended family members recently. And now he's bringing the drama from his family circle into ours.
Brooke
So does that mean we all have to wear matching T shirts?
Jeffrey
A reunion, you know, if that's what it takes. George, welcome to the show, man.
George
How's it going?
Brooke
Good, good. Did the reunion already happen, George?
George
Yeah, it happened. It was a few weeks back.
Brooke
Okay. Okay, so it's lingering.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
You survived it.
George
Yeah. Okay.
Jeffrey
What made you reach out to our show for help?
George
Okay, yeah. So basically we were having a little family reunion. It was extended family, so people I knew and then didn't know too well. Nice little barbecue.
Brooke
You're like, wow, we all kind of look alike.
George
Cool. Yes. It was a good vibe. And then I'd say probably about an hour and a half in this younger girl, probably around my age. She came in and she just looks super familiar. But I couldn't really put my finger on where I knew her from.
Brooke
Guessing she's a cousin.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Gotta be, right?
George
So I was asking my aunt about her later. She goes, yeah, no, that's Ashley. That's your second cousin.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay.
George
Yeah. So I was like, okay, maybe I met her a while back. But then it just dawned on me that we had met at a coffee shop. I was actually at a coffee shop trying to support a friend, playing a little acoustic guitar, you know, guitar night, little open mic night. And we actually met that night and we. We kind of hit it off.
Brooke
Shut up, dude.
Jose
You had already met her.
Brooke
You said it was your second cousin. Off limits, bro.
George
I didn't know until. Until the reunion. You guys aren't listening.
Jeffrey
Oh, so there was romantic vibes happening when you two met?
George
Yeah, we hit it off like, she my number and full transparency. He hinted towards the fact that if I came over later that night and her parents weren't there, I'd probably get lucky.
Brooke
Her parents weren't there.
George
Thank God. She never called me.
Brooke
Thank God.
Jose
Yeah.
Brooke
Oh, my gosh.
Jose
Looking back, so did you.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Why are you sick? When you saw her at the reunion, were you like, oh, God, like.
Brooke
I mean, why are you telling me with us, this? I would take this to the grave. I would never mention it ever again to anyone.
Jeffrey
So when. When your aunt told you that she's actually your cousin, what was Going through your head.
George
I mean, panic, sweating, trying to confirm, is this really happening? Am I dreaming? Pinch me. That type of stuff. But then we're at. So we're at the reunion. She handed me a piece of paper saying, you know, we need to talk.
Brooke
We need to talk.
George
And this is where I'm at now. That's why I called y'. All. I just need some advice. I don't know what she wants to talk about. I don't know if she's mad. Why.
Jeffrey
Sorry to interrupt you, George. Brooke, why are you shaking your head no right now? With, like, the frowniest face I've ever seen you make?
Brooke
Why would she need to talk? Yeah, there's nothing to talk about.
Jose
But you're.
Jeffrey
You're assuming that she wants to talk about their romantic interaction.
Brooke
Yes, of course. What else would she want to talk about? The aunt's salad recipe?
George
You guys, I need to correct you on that. There was actually no romantic interaction. I mean, there was a little bit of flirting and whatnot, but it wasn't, you know, like that.
Jose
Like, heated. I mean, just a little flirt.
Jeffrey
Everything above the belt.
Brooke
It could be.
Jose
Well said.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Jose
Shouldn't have said it, but well done.
Jeffrey
Sure.
George
We were in a coffee shop. I never even hung out with her after that.
Brooke
Okay. Thank goodness.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Yeah.
Jose
Yeah, that's.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
You know, I just fear she's still interested. That's what she wants to call.
Jose
I think we all got that.
Brooke
Okay, listen. Maybe she just wants to say, hey, listen, what happened in the coffee shop can never be said to any of our family, ever.
Jose
She's just trying to squash it.
George
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, that's perfect. I'm just glad he's not calling the radio about it then.
George
Honestly, I didn't know where else to turn. You know, I can't talk to my family about it.
Jose
You're just listening to us one day and you're like, wait a minute. Yeah, these are the people that are gonna help.
Brooke
I want.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
The host talks about her cousins dating guys.
Brooke
I have never dated a cous. Been attracted to a cousin. I've never kissed a cousin. Even a second cousin. A third cousin.
Jeffrey
Someone's protesting a whole lot about it, so you know what they say. Anyway, so what do you want to do then with your awkward Tuesday phone call here? What advice are you looking for?
George
I have no idea what she's going to say, so I just kind of need some advice on my temperament, my mood, and I don't even know if she's interested in me, and that would be super weird.
Ashley
Okay.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
But you do want to know.
Brooke
I mean, when you saw her.
Ashley
Don't ask for it.
Brooke
Don't ask.
George
No comment. I'm not answering that.
Jeffrey
Okay.
George
Oh, God.
Jose
Well, I just hope you're a super hot family. All of you are attracted.
Brooke
No comment. Feels so bad.
Popsicle Brand Announcer
Okay, just lie and say no, please.
Jeffrey
Yeah, let's get something you can't answer. What's her name?
George
Ashley.
Brooke
Cousin Ashley at the front. Just to remind everybody.
Jeffrey
Even the way he was saying that, he was smiling. You could tell. Anyway, let's give you some advice. We're gonn come back, tell you exactly what you need to do before we let you make your awkward Tuesday phone call to the second cousin you had a little flirtation with not too long ago, right after this.
George
Correction. This was like two years ago.
Brooke
Oh, it was that long ago.
Discover Card Advertiser
Oh.
George
Oh.
Brooke
I don't think I realized the timeline.
Jeffrey
Oh, gosh.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
That's right. Distance makes the heart grow fonder. So hopefully not too fun when we do your awkward Tuesday phone call right after this.
Jose
It's awkward.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
It's Tuesday.
Jose
It's awkward Tuesday phone call.
Jeffrey
It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And if you're just joining us, this is the definition of awkward Tuesday.
Jose
Yeah, it's already awkward.
Jeffrey
Our listener, George, bumped into a woman at a coffee shop two years ago. He described that interaction as flirtatious. Yeah, nothing happened, but there were definite vibes.
Brooke
No, I mean, she invited him over to his. Her place that night.
Jose
She insinuated.
Jeffrey
She alluded that she would like him maybe to swing by later that night. Thankfully, that did not happen because two years later, he's at his family reunion and sees that same woman from the coffee shop, only to learn it's actually his second cousin, Ashley.
Jose
We want to emphasize second. Normally, it's not that important, but I think it is right now.
Brooke
It doesn't matter. That's not close enough.
Jose
Trying to help.
Brooke
I don't care what number you put at the front of cousin, you can't. I mean, maybe we get a into double digits and it's fine.
Jose
But, like, point is, they were introduced.
Jeffrey
They didn't say a whole lot to each other, but at one point, she did slip him a note that said the most terrifying four words anybody can hear. We need to talk. And so he has no clue what that's about. He's so nervous that he wanted our advice before he reached out to her. So, Brooke, what do you have for him? What advice can you give?
Brooke
Well, the nervous is the problem right now. Honestly, the more nervous you Sound, the more it sounds like you're into her. You have to be chill. You have to care.
Jose
Not at all nonchalant, bro.
George
But I. I don't have a crush on her. And I think you. If you were in my situation, you'd be slightly nervous, too, because this is a really weird situation.
Brooke
I'm not saying you have a crush. I'm just saying you sound like you could. If you come off nervous.
George
Okay, I get it, but I don't have a crush.
Jeffrey
Okay, but just the way. Just the way you said it makes it sound like you do.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
So try to, like, revamp your attitude right now, and Jose is going to give you some more advice. What do you think, Jose?
Jose
Well, you don't know what's coming. It could be good, it could bad. So you want to keep the mood light and set the tone immediately, which means it's time to tell a joke. A family joke. And I got a perfect one. Remember this? Why did the computer go to a family reunion?
George
Why?
Amazon Pharmacy Advertiser
Why?
Jose
To see its data. It's like a dad.
Jeffrey
I like that.
Jose
So if you start with that, make her laugh, then just ride that.
Jeffrey
The whole.
Brooke
I'm sure. I mean, Alexis can't stop laughing.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Yeah. Maybe choose a joke related to your family.
Jeffrey
What do you think about putting a little bit of humor at the begin, George?
George
I mean, if you guys are saying that's the way to go, I mean, I think it'll make me sound less nervous, so let's go with it.
Brooke
Okay. Sound like such a funny guy. Yeah, this will go well.
Jose
Is he going to tell a nervous joke right now?
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
I'm scared of what's going to happen, but we're running out of time, so I just got to dial Ashley's number. We're going to step away and let you talk to your second cousin and see why she wanted to speak to you so badly.
George
Oh, man. This is the worst call I've ever had to make in my entire life.
Brooke
One of the worst we've had to hear. So we're with you, George.
Jose
This is extra awkward.
Jeffrey
I'm kind of excited, though. I'm dialing you right now.
Ashley
Hello?
George
Hello?
Ashley
Hello,
George
Is this Ashley?
Ashley
Yeah. Who's this?
George
This is George from. From the family reunion.
Ashley
Oh, yeah, hold on a second. I just leave the room.
George
Hold on. Hey, you said you needed to talk about something.
Ashley
Well, it's just funny because I don't know, like, if you knew that we had actually met a while back.
George
Yeah, I mean, it did dawn on me. I think it was at that coffee joint. My friend was playing guitar. I don't really remember much.
Ashley
Okay, well, you just didn't say anything about it that day when we saw each other.
George
Yeah.
Ashley
Yeah, it was weird that you didn't say anything.
George
I. Yeah, I don't really remember a lot.
Ashley
Okay. Well, I just think it's strange because when I look back on, seemed like you were really attracted to me.
Brooke
Oh, no.
Ashley
And I never called you. Is that right? If I'm remembering correctly.
George
Yeah. And I'm happy now. You never called me. I wasn't happy back then, but I was definitely happy now. I'm happy now.
Ashley
So, like, I don't know you, you know, I don't know how you are. Like, if you would think it's funny and just, like, bring up to someone, but I would be mortified. Yeah.
George
And I don't know for sure.
Ashley
Our family would, like, never let it go. And I just wouldn't want to show my face in another reunion. You know what I mean? And then.
George
Sure.
Ashley
Cool. Glad we're on the same page. Because number two, I just wanted to get clarity because I remember, you know, from before and then how you looked at me at the get together. And I just feel like you're still attracted to me. And I just think it's weird.
George
What? No. When you talk, you're my second cousin. It's confirmed now. I mean, like, yeah, you are an attractive person, but I'm not.
Ashley
Please don't make this any more awkward than it has to be. Like.
George
No, no, I don't want to say that. I'm just. I am telling you that. I mean, you do have nice lips and a nice jawline. But I'm not attracted to you. But I else would think that that is attractive. But we're related. I mean, right?
Ashley
We are related. And we know that now. And this is just not gonna come up again. And then we'll never mention it again to anyone because it's, like, weird.
George
I'm definitely not gonna mention to anyone how I was attracted to you, but I'm no longer attracted to you. Even though you still have attractive features. Like, your body.
Ashley
Thanks, but please just stop. I just don't want it. I just don't want it to be awkward.
Popsicle Brand Announcer
Awkward.
Jose
That's our cue.
Jeffrey
Just can't let it keep going.
Ashley
What is that?
George
Hello.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Jeffrey
Hello, Ashley.
Brooke
We're a radio show about not talking about it thing. Yeah, we just heard all that.
Ashley
I think you guys. Oh, no. How did you hear about this?
Jeffrey
We've actually been a part of this since the beginning of the call.
Brooke
Because with Ancestry.com.
George
yeah, we're.
Brooke
I'm kidding.
George
I'm kidding.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Ashley.
Ashley
Like, who called me?
Jeffrey
So George wanted to call you after he got the note that you gave him at the family reunion. And he felt really nervous, very awkward about making this call. He wanted a little advice and a little support.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
So it wouldn't be weird.
Ashley
You guys, this can't happen. This is on the radio. This is so embarrassing.
Brooke
Oh, it's fine. Nothing happened. You guys will be able to laugh.
Ashley
No, I don't want this to be a family, like inside joke or something.
Jose
No names. We don't know. Nobody knows who you are right now.
Brooke
We have a whole Mayflower joke in our family. Because there is a direct relationship between two members. Anyway, it gets funny.
Jeffrey
Sure. Go ahead, George, tell her a joke. This is a good time.
George
All right, so I think. Have you ever. Tell me the joke again? One more time. Is it computer?
Jose
You again?
Brooke
It's about the computer going to the reunion.
Jose
Family reunion.
George
The computer at the family reunion. What did they say? Dada.
Brooke
What was the dad.
Jose
Oh, my God,
Jeffrey
George.
Ashley
Oh, my God. My mom was right. You are from the stupid side of the family.
Brooke
That's what you're saying.
Jeffrey
Okay, that's.
George
Hey, hey, hey. Stupid is a stupid. Does that means you're stupid as well.
Brooke
That is not a good comeback.
Jeffrey
Bottom line, Ashley, is. George is not attracted to you.
Brooke
Why are we saying it again?
Jeffrey
Yeah, because she doesn't seem to get like that. That's what's actually happening.
Brooke
I don't think anybody does.
Jose
We're trying to help.
Jeffrey
We're trying to help George confirm there is no romantic interest on his part whatsoever.
George
I think I made that clear. I said it like four times.
Jeffrey
Yes, but then you added on commentary.
Brooke
Yeah, so her lips, her jawline. There was mention in there.
Jeffrey
I don't think we need the reminder.
Brooke
Weird.
Sean Duffy
Yeah.
Jeffrey
So just delete all that from your memory. George does not feel that way about you.
Ashley
All right, thanks.
Jose
Oh, no, she's not nervous.
Brooke
Just get your parents to host and leave some of the family off the invite list.
Jose
Yeah, leave the dumb part of the family out.
George
Wait, I don't get that part with the dumb people.
Jose
Oh, who are the dumb people?
Jeffrey
I guess it's a mystery. We'll never know.
Brooke
Dumb people say who?
Jeffrey
Yeah. Anyway, it sounds like you two are in. Are in a good place. You're never going to mention it's better than it was. I think it's better. You guys are never going to talk about this. Again. Luckily, there's going to be no record of it online. Living on Brook and Jeffrey podcast.
Jose
Any last words? This is the last you're ever going to talk about this conversation.
Brooke
Wow.
George
You know, whatever you're doing in your workout routine, keep doing. Oh my God.
Jeffrey (alternate or secondary voice)
Why would you say that?
George
I'm just saying, from a family member to a family member, ask for like
Brooke
a potato salad recipe or something.

Is it me or did those two have a little bit of chemistry? I think there's a healthy family friendship that can come out of this whole situation. No, I really do.
Brooke
They didn't know each other before they can stick to that.
Jeffrey
You know what I mean?
Brooke
Like, it wasn't an important part of the family that you've lost. It was a second cousin you didn't know. Let's just keep on not knowing them.
Jeffrey
There was some sort of tension was definitely there between them. But I'll just say whenever I'm at a family reunion, nobody ever compliments me on my body. And I think that would actually feel really nice.
Brooke
You want that?
Jeffrey
Yeah, for somebody to notice.
Jose
Little Jeffrey, you've grown up so much. Look at that rocking body you have.

Episode: Awkward Tuesday: Awkward Family Reunion
Date: July 21, 2026
Podcast Host: iHeartPodcasts
This episode of Brooke and Jeffrey features one of their "Awkward Tuesday" phone calls, focusing on George, a listener who experienced an uncomfortable revelation at his extended family reunion: a woman he flirted with two years ago at a coffee shop turned out to be his second cousin, Ashley. After Ashley slips George a “we need to talk” note at the reunion, George seeks help from the show to handle what may be the most awkward family encounter yet.
The tone remains playful, quick-witted, and empathetic, with a strong undercurrent of secondhand embarrassment. Brooke and Jeffrey expertly combine humor with a genuine desire to help (or at least entertain), while George and Ashley’s interactions vacillate between cringing, defensive, and conciliatory. Despite the awkwardness, the show provides a safe space for wildly uncomfortable situations—and gives listeners permission to laugh at the messiness of real life.
If you missed this episode, rest assured: George and Ashley will likely never speak of this again—a mutual pact (witnessed by radio listeners everywhere) that may just allow family peace to prevail at future reunions.
If you’re brave enough to share your own cringey drama, Brooke and Jeffrey promise both compassion and comedy—just maybe leave the cousin compliments at home.
