I cannot wait to read comments after today's brand new episode. Hey, welcome to your second day podcast. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning and it's Tuesday. Which means you're getting a real awkward Tuesday phone call today. But first, what do we have in the comment section? El Heth said, dudes, I'm back. After over six months of not listening, because I have listened to all of them since 2022, and I needed more than one a day. Yeah, yeah, I'm back. You're back. You got a lot to catch. You've been waiting.
Jose
Yeah, I don't want to get too attached because you're going to be attached to our hip for, like, three months and you're going to binge all. Then you'll be gone again.
Brooke
It is a cyclical.
Jose
It's a game of yo yo, and I hate it.
Brooke
It's okay.
Jose
I just want her to stay forever.
Brooke
Come here. I'll hold you. They're not gonna hear this for six months.
Kenny
Yeah.
Brooke
Sorry. All right, your brand new episode starts right now.
Jeffrey
Mom groups are notoriously super kind to each other. They never talk behind each other's backs. They don't weaponize politeness.
Brooke
Nope.
Jeffrey
And if an issue ever arises, they always handle it by just talking it out respectfully, totally politely. Right, Brooke?
Commercial Announcer 1
Yeah.
Brooke
Bless her heart.
Jeffrey
Yeah, it's weird, cuz today we hear from a dad who has been nominated as the spokesperson by all the ticked off moms in his wife's friend group. Uh oh. And his mission is easy. Just confront another mom about her kid's birthday party.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Jeffrey
What could go wrong? It's your brand new awkward Tuesday phone call. Next.
Jose
It's awkward.
Danielle Fishel
It's Tuesday.
Kenny
It's awkward Tuesday phone call.
Jeffrey
Back in the day. And when I say back in the day, I mean like, 25 to 30 years ago, okay, Kids were still having birthday parties at McDonald's.
Brooke
Oh, my God, yes. Oh, the playgrounds, the play places.
Jeffrey
You could spend 25 bucks on a giant platter of cheeseburgers and fries, and then Grimace would bring out a cake and sit on it in front of everybody who wants a slice. But my, oh, my, how times have changed. Because parties for kids nowadays are big business.
Brooke
Dude, seriously, like, I go to some of these of my kids, I'm like, how many impersonators do you guys need at one place? Yeah, there's already Ariel here. Do we need the entire Disney Princess crew?
Jeffrey
It's hard to meet parents that love their children more than you do. I get that. But it has caused a situation for one of our listeners who. Who's come to us seeking our advice. His name is Kenny. So, Kenny, welcome to the show, man.
Kenny
Hi, how are you?
Brooke
Hi. Kenny, we're good. I'm curious to hear what's going on. Is this with your own kids?
Kenny
Yeah. Yeah. Well, for starters, I really love you guys. Listen every day.
Brooke
Oh, I thought you were going to start with I really love my kids, but you know what? I like your.
Jeffrey
We'll take the praise first. Yes, absolutely. What's going on? We hear you have some birthday party drama. Tell us about it.
Kenny
Yeah, so my kids, 6 and 7 were invited to a birthday party and you know, I'm thinking, hey, this is pretty cool. It's great for the parents to get to know each other and it's in the community.
Commercial Announcer 2
Yeah.
Kenny
And everything. Perfect.
Brooke
Oh, and it's so nice that you have kids so close in age. I mean, it probably was a pain when they were a baby, but now you can send them to parties together all over the place.
Jose
Two for one.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Brooke's looking at as a bargain. Well, I'm just saying she's a businesswoman. Yeah, that's fair.
Brooke
My kids are three years different, so it's a little bit, you know, you
Jose
can't quite ship them to the same things yet.
Jeffrey
Yeah, okay.
Kenny
Yeah. Well, here's the thing. So the mom who did the invite, I've only met her about twice, she's friendly with my wife and everything, but she sent a really interesting invite for a six year old party.
Jose
Interesting, like how?
Kenny
Well, it had all of the details, you know, bouncy house, popcorn, fun and games and all of that jazz. But at the very bottom of the invite it said, if you plan to send your child, please send with money for tip bucket to go toward party expenses and food and games and things of that nature.
Jeffrey
Well, it's asking to bring cash with your kid.
Brooke
Is there an entertainer or are they tipping the parrot?
Kenny
It's unclear. It just says cash tips.
Brooke
That's weird, huh? I'm going to go with that's weird.
Jose
I don't go to kids parties, but I feel like I see the logic behind it.
Jeffrey
Brooke, you're immediately jumping on. It's weird. Do you think it's tacky to ask a guest to bring tips or are we at the point in society where it's okay for tipping to be involved in everything?
Jose
Tipping culture is getting out of control.
Brooke
There are so many different ways you can have a kids party. You can do them literally the cheapest end and the kids are happy. Yeah, like if you can't afford to throw these elaborate parties, then that's fine. Don't. The kids don't care.
Jeffrey
But they might be Happier if the party costs more money?
Brooke
I don't think so. They might have children, work. Usually if you give them a present, it's the box they're more excited about. Yeah. It's not a lie.
Jeffrey
What was your read and your. Your wife's read on it, Kenny?
Kenny
Well, my wife, she doesn't like it, but she doesn't want to be confrontational. So I've been charged with being the guy to say something to her about this because here's the. Yeah, here's the reality.
Brooke
Your wife wants you to call the mom that is throwing this party and ask her about it.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I thought that she was the one who was friends with her.
Natasha
Yeah.
Kenny
But my wife, she's really easygoing and she doesn't like anything confrontational at all. So my thought process is honestly to reach out to you guys because I can't do that by myself.
Jeffrey
Okay, so your wife has asked you to do it. Does she know that you've come to us seeking help?
Kenny
No, she doesn't.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Behind your wife's back, do you know what your wife wants out of this phone call?
Kenny
Well, number one, she wants to remain friends with her because all of these moms are friends in this friend group thing that they had.
Jeffrey
I see.
Kenny
And number two. Two. I feel like I need to tell this lady about this whole tipping thing because none of the other moms are going to be comfortable with this, you know, sitting there. Kids with money.
Brooke
Okay, so you're the honorary mom group spokesperson today.
Jose
Yeah. Have we considered who we're calling? Can we just call the kid? You tell your mom that we're not bringing money.
Brooke
The almost six year old.
Jeffrey
Yeah, yeah, sorry. Do you know the mom's name?
Kenny
We call her Tosh. I call her Tosh. We call her Tosh, but her full name is Natasha.
Natasha
Okay.
Jeffrey
And the good news is moms love it when a man tells them what they're doing wrong with their parenting. That always goes well. So.
Kenny
Yeah, well, you know, honestly, that's why I called you guys.
Natasha
Okay, okay.
Jeffrey
We'll take the blame if it goes badly.
Jose
Hey, should we call another show?
Brooke
Yeah, maybe.
Jeffrey
Yes, let's keep passing it on.
Jose
Passing it on.
Jeffrey
Well, we'll see if we can come with some advice before we come back. Let you call this other mom, Tosh, and tell her maybe don't ask all the parents to tip at her kid's birthday.
Kenny
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Because if that's the case, there could be no kids coming at all.
Jose
Yes.
Jeffrey
Let's see how that message goes with your awkward Tuesday Phone call right after this.
Kenny
It's awkward.
Danielle Fishel
It's Tuesday.
Kenny
It's awkward. Tuesday phone call.
Jeffrey
If you're just joining us, we talked about birthday parties and how much they've changed over the years. But this is a new wrinkle we really haven't seen yet. Cause a birthday invitation came in for our listener Kenny's kids. It seemed like overall, a normal house party sort of deal. But at the very bottom of the invite, it said, send a cash tip along with your child for party expenses.
Brooke
And, you know, at first I was like, oh, rude. But now I'm like, ooh, maybe I should start doing this. I'm just kidding.
Natasha
I'm kidding. Well, sure.
Jeffrey
When Kenny saw it, he thought it was strange. His wife was definitely bothered.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
And she talked to a bunch of the other moms. They all seem to be upset.
Brooke
Yeah, they don't even want to send their kids if that's the case.
Jeffrey
Which is why they've nominated Kenny as their sacrificial lamb. Chosen to make a phone call to this other mom saying, if you don't rescind the tipping request, there may end up being no kids at this party. At the end of the day, I'm
Brooke
going to say it that way.
Jeffrey
We're just gonna strongly imply it that her child will be very, very hurt by this. So it's interesting. I heard about a situation like this before, so I can't wait to get some advice for you, Kenny. Brooke, what do you think?
Brooke
At first I was like, oh, my God, I can't believe they're making you do it. And then I realized you're the perfect person for this call, Kenny.
Jeffrey
Why?
Kenny
I am?
Natasha
Yes.
Brooke
Because you're the one that can play the dumb dad card. You know, the dad that didn't see the invite, that didn't get the email, that didn't know anything, and he happened to overhear some other moms saying something about a tip. So you're just calling the source to figure it out since you have to do the drop off, you're confused, you know, get more info. You hear me, Kenny?
Kenny
Okay, I guess that could work.
Brooke
Yes. And. And you're giving her a little inside that the moms are talking behind her back.
Jeffrey
All right, Kenny, so you're gonna be the dad that doesn't really pay attention to his own children.
Jose
Yes.
Jeffrey
Can you pull that off?
Jose
Jeff's got it.
Brooke
What, man? Can't.
Jeffrey
Jeff, can you be yourself?
Natasha
Kenny?
Kenny
I can absolutely do that.
Jeffrey
All right. I can hear the stupidity coming through already.
Brooke
Good job, ke.
Jeffrey
What about You, Jose, what do you think?
Jose
All right, here's a strategy that might help get you what you want. You need to ask, how much is she looking for as a tip, like, from each family? Then you say, oh, wow, that's a lot. Okay, I think we can do it. We may just have to take it out of their college fund, but that's doable for our family.
Brooke
Guilt her no matter what. The number is so poor you can't afford the $5 tip.
Jeffrey
I think it's a bold strategy. What do you think about trying the guilt method just a little bit?
Kenny
Ken, that can work too.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Kenny
I actually like that a little better.
Jose
Oh, yeah, Better than Brooke.
Natasha
Yay.
Brooke
Fine. The only mother in the room, but yeah, so true.
Jose
I don't even have.
Brooke
Fine.
Jeffrey
You know what? I like this. All the men are sticking together.
Brooke
That's right.
Jeffrey
All us dumb idiots that don't know what the heck is going on.
Brooke
Yeah, Guarantee you did not read the invite.
Jose
We're not going to take these kids.
Jeffrey
I don't know if any of that advice actually helps you, Kenny, but it's the best we got. So we're going to dial this other mom, Natasha. We'll step away and let you make your awkward Tuesday phone call. Are you ready?
Kenny
Okay. Well, this kind of feels like the Titanic when it was being launched, but
Brooke
yeah, we got one lifeboat.
Jose
Yeah, and Jeff's the captain.
Jeffrey
Men first into the boat.
Kenny
Here we go.
Jose
Yeah, it works different here.
Natasha
Hello?
Kenny
Hi.
Brooke
Oh, yes.
Kenny
Hi, Tosh. Who.
Natasha
Who is this? Yes.
Kenny
Hey, Tosh, this is Kenny. How are you?
Natasha
Kenny who?
Kenny
Yeah, Kenny, Yolanda's husband. You invited our kids to the birthday party that you're having for your son?
Natasha
Okay. What can I help you with?
Kenny
Oh, well, great. Tosh, are you. Are you having a good day? How's it going?
Natasha
My baby is going fine. What's the reason for this call? I'm. I'm sorry. I'm just a little confused as to why you're calling me.
Kenny
Oh, this is nothing major. You know, I was actually giving a call about the invite that you sent over. Really? Really great invite. I see you're gonna have the bouncy house for the kids and everything.
Natasha
Okay. If you call in to ask about if you could drop your kids off, that's fine. Just drop them off. You can pick them up a few hours later. That's cool.
Kenny
Oh, well, that adds another layer to this. I really don't drop my kids off and leave them. But that's not why I was calling. Was actually given a call about the line in the invite about the tip bucket.
Natasha
What did you say? About the what?
Kenny
About the tip bucket.
Natasha
There's no damn tip bucket. They're just tips.
Kenny
Well, well, that's the thing, you know. How much of a tip were you expecting 6 and 7 year olds to bring?
Natasha
Oh, well, you're the parent. They're not bringing it. You are. You're not leaving your kids from what you just told me. So.
Kenny
Okay, so how much are you thinking for this tip jar thing situation?
Natasha
Don't you think that's kind of rude to ask? Like, I mean, what do you think is a good tip? When you go somewhere and get a service, what do you tip?
Kenny
Oh, well, I. I just. I never knew of a birthday party to be a service, but, you know, it's just. I'm just asking, did you be looking at, what, five bucks here?
Natasha
I mean, you could put $5 in there, but you talking like you the brokey, like you're the cheap one.
Kenny
Well, we're not broke at all. I actually have a pretty good job and my wife.
Natasha
I can't tell by the way you're calling, and we've been talking about a five minutes. I cannot tell.
Kenny
Well, you know, this is starting to get a little stressful and awkward.
Natasha
You're stressing yourself out. You're stressing yourself out, Kenny, because you called me about the text.
Kenny
You're right. You're right. How about I just venmo you, you know, like 45, 50 bucks? How does that sound?
Natasha
That's your best offer? We can't go a little higher? Since you wait together, that's the best you got?
Jeffrey
Wait, how does this. How are we doing this right now?
Kenny
All right, higher. I guess I could.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Natasha, are you hearing us?
Natasha
Yes. Who else is on the phone?
Jeffrey
We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. Oh, Kenny's a listener.
Natasha
Yeah. A broke listener at that.
Brooke
Well, he just offered to give you $50.
Jeffrey
Yeah, it's pretty generous in our eyes. But Kenny has come to us seeking a little bit of advice because he told us the whole situation with the birthday invite. And there was a little bit confusion, obviously, on Kenny's end with the tipping part.
Natasha
Well, I mean, y' all heard what was going on. Clearly he has an issue with tipping at my kids party.
Brooke
Wait a minute, wait a minute. Natasha, can I ask what is the tip for? I don't understand.
Natasha
So we're gonna have service. You know, their kids are gonna be served and things like that. So they could just leave a Tip for the server. I'm literally paying for everything. This is a really high end type of party.
Brooke
Okay, so you're actually hiring people to
Jose
be handing out juice boxes?
Natasha
Yeah, it's bigger than apple juice boxes and things like that. I don't know what little mediocre birthday parties you go to, but we do it big over here.
Brooke
Okay, well, I. I do it cheap and free. That's kind of the route I typically take.
Jose
And Brooke doesn't even invite us to her kids birthday parties.
Brooke
My kids don't.
Natasha
Well, maybe once you come to my kid party, y' all step y' all game up.
Jose
I can't afford to go to your party, lady.
Brooke
I mean, don't you think it's just a little odd? Have you ever been to a birthday party asking for tips and to cover expenses?
Jeffrey
She's not judging you by saying that. She's just offering that as a possibility.
Natasha
I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good.
Jose
We're not trying to gang up on.
Brooke
No, I just think like it's a little off putting. Probably to a lot of families to be asked to pay to attend a birthday party.
Natasha
Well, guess what? It's a little off putting to call the damn radio station. Talk about a tip. If it was that deep, guess what he could have did. He could have just not bring his kid. If it was that big of a deal.
Brooke
If they don't bring it tip, they're not going to be allowed into the party.
Natasha
I didn't say that. I said if it was that deep for him to call the radio. Okay, then he didn't even have to worry about it.
Jeffrey
I don't know if we're really making any progress here. And Kenny, we haven't heard from you in a while. We're running a little bit short on time. Where's your head at?
Kenny
My head is at probably about 74.99. That's as high as I'll go.
Brooke
Why are you waiting?
Jeffrey
You keep offering more money.
Natasha
Make sure you bring a gift with that. $75 too.
Jeffrey
A gift too? Kenny, you got yourself into quite a problem, so.
Kenny
Yeah, I don't think it's a problem anymore. Drum's done.
Jose
Oh yeah, he is, right?
Brooke
Yeah. Just wait until you have to make that phone call to your wife.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we'll be here for that awkward Tuesday too.
Kenny
You may want to wait a week
Jose
and let us do it.
Jeffrey
Good luck, Kenny.
Commercial Announcer 1
Brooke and J, the morning.
Jeffrey
This just in. I have fired my radio agent and have hired Natasha to negotiate my next radio contract for me.
Brooke
That is actually genius. Can't say no to her.
Jeffrey
Somehow she got Kenny to go from I think tipping at a kids party is tacky and gross to I'm ven moing her $75 and a gift right now.
Brooke
She didn't even even ask for more money. He just interjected with, this is the highest I could go.
Jeffrey
That's the power of Natasha.
Jose
I was thinking after, do you think he kept going higher because he like felt he had to compensate for being called, like broke maybe. And he was like, no, no, maybe.
Brooke
75 then, dude, I guarantee he's paying 125 bucks by the time that birthday party rolls around.
Jose
Taxes.
Brooke
I mean, he's just paying for the birthday party maybe at this point.
Jeffrey
Seriously. And I wasn't joking when I said I have a feeling he's going to be back next week to tell his wife, hey, I'm sorry, honey. I just sent Natasha two grand and I gave her my car.
Brooke
Yeah, I'm just hoping they have separate accounts and she wipes. Never knows about it.

Episode: Awkward Tuesday: Birthday Tip
Podcast: Brooke and Jeffrey – Second Date Update
Host: iHeartPodcasts
In this laugh-filled and highly relatable installment of Awkward Tuesday Phone Call, the Brooke and Jeffrey crew help a listener, Kenny, address a surprisingly tense situation involving parental etiquette and modern birthday parties. The main dilemma: a birthday invitation for Kenny's kids asks parents to send cash tips to help cover party expenses. The hosts, joined by Kenny (and eventually the party-host mom, Natasha), discuss whether it’s okay to ask for tips at a child’s birthday party and coach Kenny through the nerve-wracking conversation.

Consistent with the show’s signature mix of playful, irreverent, and slightly chaotic banter, the hosts balance real parental anxieties with big laughs. Natasha’s self-assured style contrasts sharply with Kenny’s nervous people-pleasing, creating sparkling tension. Listeners are left entertained—but possibly worried about the next birthday invite in their kids’ backpacks.
This episode delivers prime entertainment as it explores the fine (and funny) lines between hospitality, generosity, and etiquette in modern parenting circles. With sharp observations, quick comebacks, and a memorable “negotiation,” it’s a must-listen for anyone embroiled in the world of kids’ birthday parties—or anyone in need of a good laugh.
