A
Quickly becoming the favorite day of the week. The awkward Tuesday phone call.
B
Yeah, it's a highlight.
A
It is, because it's like relationship drama, but it's like all sorts of different relationships.
C
Right.
A
It could be co workers. It could be, you know.
D
Yeah.
A
Spouses, grandma.
E
Do people like it because we don't talk as much the second half.
A
That could be.
B
Yeah, it's mainly the two people.
E
Yeah.
A
You know, I don't mind that.
C
Yeah, I don't hate that.
A
All right, welcome to the Brooke and Jeffrey second day podcast. Today is a classic, but we've got a new comment to read.
B
Yes.
E
Notia said, I'm all the way from South Africa.
A
So one thing.
E
Thing I realized is that y' all do your job better when you're criticized. So here we go.
D
Oh.
E
Out of plus or minus 3500 phone taps and second dates, I only saved 65 phone taps in 44 second dates.
C
So come on.
E
Y' all could do way better than that.
B
You want to show people?
E
Yeah.
A
All right, we're gonna work on 45 saved for this year, NYA. That's our goal.
D
Yeah.
B
I hope we can track her phone and be like, yes, she saved it. It's a good one.
F
I love it.
A
I love it. Challenge accepted. All right, your awkward starts.
D
Snooping through your significant other's stuff. That is almost always going to lead to finding bad things.
B
Yeah. Come on. If you got a snoop, you probably. You probably got something going on.
D
Like when Brooke went through her husband's box of chains and restraints and she found Michael's old love letters to Jason Mraz.
B
I bet these are real.
A
I wish if that was a lie.
D
So, yeah, weird conversation they had to have that night.
B
He's like, what? What?
A
Yeah, but he really likes the remedy.
B
Oh, boy.
D
What if some miracle you snooped and actually found something good?
F
Ooh.
D
Cuz one of our listeners says she just moved in with her fiance, and what she found buried in his attic wasn't just good, it was incredible. And he had no idea it was even there.
A
Oh, my God.
D
Now she needs our advice on how to deliver the news to him. You're going to hear what the big discovery was in your brand new awkward Tuesday phone call. Next.
B
It's awkward.
E
It's Tuesday.
B
It's awkward Tuesday phone call. What, did we just become best friends?
D
Moving in together for the very first time can be so exciting and special.
A
Oh, man.
D
Especially if it's with your significant other.
A
Yeah. I hope you're more than best friends, Jeff.
D
Why can we more than best Friends?
B
Yeah, soulmates.
F
Oh, okay.
D
But it's exciting because you're figuring out, you know, who gets what side of the closet, or in Brooke's case, who cleans what side of the toilet bowl.
B
Oh, ew. You guys split it in half.
D
Michael, that's my side.
A
That's right.
D
Okay, now sponge fight.
A
Open your mouth, honey.
C
I'm going to get you.
B
Open your mouth.
A
Okay.
D
You made it weird.
B
For some reason, it's supposed to be disgusted by that bro.
D
That aside, I am excited to speak with Allison today because she's moving in with her boyfriend of two years and they just got engaged.
E
That's so exciting.
D
Allison. Congratulations.
C
Yay. Thank you.
B
Yay. What side of the toilet bowl's your side?
A
Pick left. Pick left. It's always clear, I swear.
D
So you guys have a big move. Is it happening right now or what's going on?
C
Yeah, yeah. We're. We've been together for two years. You know, he proposed and then we're like, okay, now we're gonna move in together.
A
And like, you're so matter of fact about it.
C
Yeah, well, yeah, I mean, you know, it's like I've lose people before, never gotten engaged, so to do it and now start moving in together is like a different kind of chapter for me. So navigating it is a little weird.
A
Okay.
D
Yeah.
A
What's weird about it?
C
It's like we're not getting a new place. I'm moving into his already place. So it's his territory, his turf. Yeah. So it's going well. I'm moving my stuff and everything. And I was in the attic and there's stuff that like, you know, his. His grandparents have passed on and stuff. So, you know, he's got his grandparents boxes up there. And you know, I'm just going through everything, you know.
A
Okay, so are you just calling to complain about what a clutter buggy is?
D
Like, you sound kind of overwhelmed.
C
Just innocently going through everything. Okay. And I find his grandfather's stuff. I asked him, I said, do you know what's in your grandpa's boxes? He goes, I don't know what that is. You know, it's just boxes I still have. So I was like, okay, throw them away.
D
Onto the fire with them.
C
Well, no, there might be stuff that we could use. You know, if he's got some like good spatulas or frying pans, you know, I'm going to bring them down.
A
Totally. Absolutely. They don't make them like this.
B
Anym.
A
Some nice silver.
C
Yeah.
B
Oh, asbestos.
C
So I found Some, like, smaller boxes with, like, keepsakes and all that kind of stuff and jewelry and stuff like that. But I found a box of coins.
D
Coins.
B
Ooh, those could be worth a lot.
A
Yeah, they can.
C
Exactly. I take these coins, and I'm like, wow, these are dated, like, 1800s kind of stuff.
A
Oh, dang. Oh, whoa.
C
Yeah. So I take these coins in to get them appraised.
A
Right. And your boy and your fiance. Sorry. Knows you're doing this?
C
No, he knows that I was in the boxes, though, but he doesn't know that I just decided to, on my own, go check out how much he's actually worth.
D
Okay.
B
I wouldn't say.
F
Oh.
B
Because if it's pri. If they're not worth anything, then he'll never know. But if it is, then she can tell him.
A
Kind of weird not to tell him, but. Okay.
C
Well, yet, hear me out. I do that. We're looking at six figures.
A
Oh, six figures.
B
For a coin.
C
Way more than a hundred thousand, my guy. Yeah.
D
Oh, my God.
B
100. 1,000.
A
Yeah. Who are you? Jose. I almost called you my husband's name.
B
Yeah, when she gets mad, she just yells, Michael.
D
So you're. You're still not gonna tell him about that, then?
C
Well, I'm obviously gonna tell him. I don't want him to think that, like, I was money grubbing or, like, noofing in a weird way. I mean, we've never lived together, and I've already found, like, a crap ton of money all of a sudden.
A
I'm gonna tell you, if my, like, my significant other said, hey, I took your stuff to get it appraised without telling you, I'd have some trust things happening.
E
Exactly.
C
That's what I'm afraid of.
D
But it's like, could you really even use that type of money for anything? I want to know what you would do with that.
A
We just have a wedding coming up. Buy more coins.
C
Those are pretty cheap.
B
Or buy bitcoin.
D
What do you want to do with it?
C
So he's been really stressed about, like, graduate school paying for it and everything, and I'm just like, oh, my God. This is, like, finally our solution for that.
D
Oh, you don't need to go to graduate school anymore now that you're rich.
B
I didn't even go to college. Look at me. Oh, wait, you can't see me.
D
I'm on the radio.
C
It's like, I want it to be, like, a really nice surprise for him, but I don't want it to then be like, wait, why were you in my stuff?
E
He Might be so excited. He won't care.
A
I know. I don't know.
B
I think now it's. It's. It's funny. This would have been better if they were worth nothing, because then he'd be like, oh, cool, an extra $10, honey. Great. Thank you. But now that it's worth six figures, plus, it looks like you were conniving and kind of behind his back.
A
No, because she's coming to it with. I mean, she's coming to him and she's gonna spend the money on stuff he needs.
B
I guess you're right.
C
I'm not taking it and running. I'm giving it to him. I'm telling him that it's worth it. I'm not gonna just, like, be like, okay, never mind the engagement. Running away with all this cash.
A
Yeah, totally.
D
And they did have a conversation about the boxes before he just kind of brushed her off. Didn't know what was in there. So this is going to be a surprise for him.
A
Is going to be fun. This is actually going to be a fun, awkward Tuesday.
B
I don't see why this is even awkward then. This is going to be great.
D
Although I guess the part that's awkward is like, hey, I went and took stuff from your attic. Without telling me.
B
We already knew we were going through your stuff.
C
But do you think. You don't think that he's going to think that I was like, money? Like, I was, like, searching for stuff to find money for?
D
Oh, for sure. For sure he's going to think that. Yes.
B
Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. But they said it's going to be fine.
D
Yeah, but we'll figure out a way for it to be fine as long as you don't get any advice from Brooke. So we'll come back with strong advice from Jose and let you make your awkward Tuesday phone call.
B
It's my time to shine to your.
D
Fiance to tell him you found a stash of old coins worth six figures up in his ass. We're gonna do it right after this. Hold on.
B
It's awkward.
A
It's Tuesday.
B
It's awkward Tuesday phone call.
D
We've done proposals on this segment before. We've done gender reveals. Things that aren't necessarily awkward bad, but awkward exciting. Yeah, because we get to sit on. On a nice little private moment with a couple. Yeah, I just don't remember ever doing one where somebody said, hey, I went through your grandpa's stuff in the attic and now we're rich.
A
Oh, still sounded good to me, Jeff.
D
On top of that there's actually a couple of good uses that could come out of it because they have a big wedding coming up, Right? He wants to go to grad school and isn't sure how he's going to pay for it.
A
Oh, my go. Like, prayers answered.
B
Way to go, Grandpa.
D
Look at all this positivity happening. The only thing that could possibly mess this up is Brooke and some horrible advice.
A
I am great at delivering amazing advice. Like, amazing news.
D
Sounds like it. Yeah.
B
Well, I almost got it.
D
But Allison wants to surprise her fiance on our show with this news. Let's start with some grade A advice from our own Jose Balanos.
B
Yeah. So you just said you're worried you're gonna. Look, Susan, because you went through all of his stuff. But if you're excited and you're positive, all you gotta do is just say you're rich and you helped him get there. Emphasize that you helped him become rich. He's gonna be so happy. He's not. That worry in your head is gonna go away.
A
Emphasizing that she's the one that got in there is gonna make her sound like you're money hungry.
D
Okay, Brooke is already coming in with a sour attitude. What do you think, Brooke?
E
I just don't think that she should.
A
Take credit for something her grandpa built for him. You know? Like, I think you just go in and you say, hey.
B
Every good conversation starts with hey, I.
A
Took some of your grandpa's things to get him appraised without telling you because I didn't want you to get your hopes up that it was worth something. But I have fantastic news.
C
Yeah. You guys, I'm stressed.
A
Don't be stressed. It's like winning the lottery of grandparents. Old crap.
B
Yeah.
C
No, but we're not even married yet. And I just. I'm afraid of him thinking, oh, my God.
A
I'm so sorry you're stressed.
B
Yeah, it's okay.
E
You're engaged before you found the money.
B
Yeah.
C
I could have run with it. I could have taken it all and run, and I didn't do that.
A
Okay, I wouldn't say that.
D
I would say that. I would.
A
Why is that even a thought that's crossing your mind?
D
It shows that you're a good person.
A
Can you imagine, like. Well, I met this really hot guy. I had the option of sleeping with him, but I didn't.
D
Sounds good to me. All right, well, hopefully that helps you. We're gonna back away and let you call your fiance and tell him what you found in the attic. Okay. You ready?
C
Okay.
D
It kind of sounds like a Horror movie. What you found waiting up in the attic for you? No, no, that didn't help. Okay. All right. See, it couldn't possibly go worse than that. So let's do it. Here we go.
F
Hello?
C
Hi, baby.
F
Hey. That's weird.
C
Good.
F
Your number came up weird. It just showed up, like, no caller. But I. I'm almost done with errands. I got to go to the grocery store. Is there anything particular you want for dinner?
C
No, but maybe you can buy yourself a steak after I let you in on some. Some news I have for you.
F
Okay.
C
Okay. So, you know, I've been, like, doing some of my stuff up in the attic and everything, and I know. I texted you about your grandpa's boxes and everything, right? Yeah.
F
You know, honestly, too. I mean, we just throw most of it away. I mean, it's old trash. I mean.
C
Well, sure. I mean, I'll get rid of, like, trash and stuff, but I was like, let me just make sure there's no keepsakes in it, you know, or something we could use around the house. And so I actually found some coins in there.
F
Yeah, that's right. He did collect rocks and coins and, I mean, all kinds of other jokes.
C
Okay, well, rocks. Okay, so the coins are more of a. The concern and what I'm about to tell you. Okay, so the coins, they look pretty old, so I just decided to take them to, like, an appraiser and like, like, coin star. Oh, my God. No, no, not like Coinstar, baby. Like, like an antique shop kind of stuff. Like, you know, like.
F
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
C
And babe, there are. They're worth, like, a lot of money. The coins I found. Like, the guy is saying that they're worth a lot.
F
Like, more than 500 bucks or.
C
Yeah, the numbers looking like it might be able to cover our wedding and grad school expenses.
F
Oh, wow. Well, I'm kind of in shock. So should I still go grocery shopping?
C
Like, maybe that's good news. Like, we're rich. It's like six figure money, baby.
F
Wow. I can't even, like, wrap my head around it. Like, that's.
C
Wrap your head around it, baby? Like, that's good money just sitting in your attic, right?
F
Yeah. So, like, what should we do? Like, what are we.
C
You should. You should spend it on, like, your grad school and everything. No.
F
Yeah, I'm like. But like, I don't know, do we need, like, to get a pre oper or something? Like.
C
Oh.
A
What?
F
No, I'm just saying, like, it's, you know, before we're technically married and everything. So, you know.
C
Well, yes, but, like, I literally thought that you'd be super excited. Like, this can help us with all of our. Our engagement stuff. What do you. You want a prenup now? You didn't even know you had this money.
F
Well, but I do now. Oh, my God.
A
Wow. Wait, what?
D
I didn't even think of that.
A
That's the first thing that comes to mind.
F
Baby.
C
What the.
E
What a reaction.
C
Maybe it's a radio show.
D
Yeah. The other people that you're hearing on the phone right now is a show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
F
Okay.
B
He's not even more nervous.
D
Yeah. This is a segment we do called An Awkward Tuesday Phone Call, and we were really excited to tell you about the valuable coins that your grandpa left you up in the attic.
B
Yeah.
F
Yeah. Awkward prenup.
D
Your mind went right to a prenup, huh?
A
Yeah.
B
Why?
A
Her mind went to spending it on your grad school bill in the wedding.
B
For both of you.
D
I can't imagine how Allison must be feeling right now. Allison, are you okay?
C
Yeah, No, I guess I'm also kind of in shock that that's his reaction. I thought he'd be way more elated than that.
B
I think he is elated. So elated he wants to keep it to himself.
A
Is that something you'd already been thinking about?
F
No. I don't know. I just don't know how this stuff usually works.
B
So you're not used to having money?
A
It doesn't. I mean, it sounds like you'll spend it, right? On grad school and stuff.
C
Yeah.
D
I mean, and a prenup lawyer.
E
Maybe.
B
He doesn't need grad school anymore. He's already rich. What is he going to use grad school for?
F
So, wait, Allison, then are your parents not paying for the wedding? Then are we paying for it?
B
Oh, that's a good question.
D
Yeah. Where can we save money for you guys?
A
You want her to sign up and you want her to pay for the wedding?
D
This guy is wondering, which is.
F
No, I'm just saying, before, your parents were gonna pay for the wedding, and. So are we now paying for the wedding because of the coins?
C
Well, no, baby, of course. Of course they're still willing to pay for the wedding that they were gonna pay for. I'm just saying we could do some, like, upgrades or something or, like, honeymoon stuff. We could use the money for. I mean.
D
Yeah.
C
Wow. This is not how I expected this.
A
Okay, Allison, I think that you are being real kind about this.
B
She loves it.
D
Brooke wants you to be harder on men.
A
During this time, you're engaged. You guys are together now. Everything that is his is yours. Yours is his. That's how it is.
D
Legally true.
F
Yeah, no, I mean, like, I get that we're together, and. But, I mean, just from a legal standpoint. And I don't know how this all works, but, like, it's my money. I mean, of course I want to share it. Like, some of it.
A
Some of it.
E
You almost threw it out.
D
Remember?
B
The first thing he asked was, should I go buy groceries? Yeah, he doesn't want to spend any money.
C
Yeah, I'm not trying to take any of it, Zach. I just thought that this might be something nice for you and I to, like, have a little bit of.
D
Yeah, Allison isn't asking for any of it, Zach.
F
No, it's a really cool surprise.
A
Oh, now it is.
B
That's what you should have led with, actually. That should have been the first thing out of your mouth.
D
How did this call turn out more awkward than any of our other awkward calls that we've ever done?
A
I feel really uncomfortable right now.
C
Yeah, maybe they should take this. We should follow this up at home. Zach, I don't. I don't know.
B
Unless you just agree to sign the prenup now, then there's nothing to talk about.
A
Okay, there's gonna be some conversations.
D
That's the only way to end this appropriately.
B
It's so awkward. Even Jeff in the button. All right, good luck, guys.
D
If you want to send some money over to the radio station, too, for some renovations over here, we could use it.
B
Yeah, we would love it.
D
Crickets.
A
And the biggest question out of that is, did the wedding happen?
E
Oh, seriously? And we don't have the answer for you. Sorry.
A
I thought for sure we'd get an update from this couple. Yeah, but we didn't. So I don't know if that means that. That they broke up or they worked.
E
It out and they don't want to come to us because they know we'll be like, seriously, guys.
A
Or that girl's too ashamed to admit that the wedding did happen because she read through the comments. Apparently, nobody wanted them to get married.
E
Not a lot of this tone after his attitude. She should not marry that guy at all. He seems more concerned for his money rather than her. Yeah, he doesn't sound like someone who should be going to grad school. Someone else said, how is that even a thing?
D
I don't know.
E
Someone said, what's wrong with a prenup? And then responded to by someone who said, I think the problem isn't necessarily the prenup. It's the fact it's the first thing that came to his mind.
B
That's what I was gonna say. I mean, prenups are okay. Every couple can talk about it, but, like, that's your reality.
E
I kind of like this one. She should have kept a couple coins since he doesn't know what was in there anyways.
A
You never know. You never know what she pocketed.
E
Yeah, maybe she's off on her own island somewhere. On a yacht.
A
Maybe. That's actually the update we were waiting for. Well, if we ever get one, we will update you on this couple because it is wild. Hey, and if you ever have a really uncomfortable conversation you need to have, we'll help you.
E
Oh, yeah.
C
Okay.
A
This is free advice here, so don't expect a lot.
E
We do have a nice awkward button. Yes, we do.
A
And you can submit to be on on the show right now. Even just go to brookeandjeffrey. Com. And thanks for being here. Don't forget to subscribe. And we're back tomorrow.
