All right, it's Tuesday, which means two things. We've got awkward Tuesday phone call today. It's a brand new one. And we've got a brand new live video up of one of our second dates today.
Jeffrey
And it's taco Tuesday. That's three things.
Brooke
Well, I wasn't gonna put that in there because it's not really our thing, but I will adopt it. Yeah, I see what you're doing. Yeah.
Corey
Okay.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
But I do like to promote it as well. Go eat tacos then go to Brooke and Jeffrey YouTube. Make you subscribe there. And stick around for this brand new episode. Right now. Do we want to get in comments right now?
Caller/Listener
Gotta say, Elijah, Wina said on one of our second dates, I won't listen to this one. I will wait for the video version to come out first.
Jeffrey
And Elijah, you know what? Some people may want to see it rather than just listen.
Caller/Listener
You waited weeks and now one is up for you.
Brooke
So I hope it's the one you were hoping for.
Caller/Listener
I hope so too.
Jeffrey
Text back next week. Wait a minute.
Brooke
Never mind. Yeah. All right. Your brand new episode starts right now.
Jeffrey
Show of hands in the room. Who here has been held for ransom? Not me. What?
Brooke
Can't say.
Corey
I have.
Jeffrey
How about kidnapped?
Brooke
No, no.
Jeffrey
You're holding your hand up. Does that count?
Brooke
No, I think he just wants us to put our hand follow suit.
Jeffrey
I mean, I was by choice.
Brooke
That's not kidnapping when you ask. Willingly going with someone.
Jeffrey
No, I. I paid. I paid for it.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Jeffrey
So you didn't know what it was happening, but you knew it was going to happen? I knew it was happen, but the. The henchmen honestly weren't quite what I was hoping to get. So I did ask for a partial refund, too.
Brooke
Too soft of him.
Jeffrey
Reason I bring it up is because we're dealing with a less serious emergency experience, okay. Involving one of our listeners who says he is stuck in a foreign country and the only person who can help him won't answer her phone. Oh, and even worse, it's his girlfriend.
Brooke
Yikes.
Jeffrey
So we're gonna try to step in and help in a special international version of the awkward Tuesday phone call right after this. It's awkward.
Brooke
It's Tuesday.
Jeffrey
It's awkward Tuesday phone call. We an emergency email this morning from the Great White north. And it wasn't. Can you explain that for people that don't know it's not a Game of Thrones Reference? No, it's from Canada. And thing is, it wasn't from an actual Canadian. It's an American named Corey who says he's stuck in Canada.
Corey
Canada.
Jeffrey
I really don't know a lot of the details here. So Corey, from here on out, Brooke is going to be your official hostage negotiator. So Brooke, go for it.
Brooke
I mean, I. Maybe just stay. Yeah, it is a very lovely place. Honestly.
Corey
Could be better.
Jeffrey
Corey, welcome to the show, man.
Corey
Hi. Thanks. Yeah, believe me, I'm considering just staying up here. But I would like some help before I do that.
Brooke
Okay.
Corey
Okay.
Jeffrey
What's going on? What made you email the show for help? You said that you're in kind of a desperate situation. Should you be talking to the U.S. embassy?
Corey
Okay, not yet. Not yet. I have a long distance girlfriend. Her name is Sage. Yes, I have a girlfriend who lives in Canada. But she's real, I swear.
Brooke
It does sound like a story when you say she's real. I swear. You've touched her skin before?
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's a weird way to phrase it. I don't know, it's not a cat face.
Brooke
But you can't say I've seen someone because you don't know.
Corey
I. I have seen her in the flesh. She recently just stayed with me for a month, but she's totally real.
Jeffrey
Oh, so she stayed with you?
Corey
It was very recently she came to visit with me.
Brooke
Okay, I'm sorry, tell me her name again.
Corey
Sorry, her name is Sage.
Jeffrey
Okay, you're gonna have to say it seven more times throughout the course of this call. So Brooke really remembers.
Brooke
Oh, I can smell her now because
Jeffrey
her name very fresh now. She's got a word association. So you said recently Sage stayed with you for a month.
Corey
She stayed with me for a month. It was really nice. We went out to restaurants, we saw some sporting events and like it was like we were regular dating. It was really nice.
Jeffrey
Did you do some of that skin touching that Brooke was talking about?
Corey
Wow. Wow.
Brooke
Important that you got to get a lot of that in because you're going to be not doing it for a minute actually.
Corey
Yeah, had to. Had to make up for lost time.
Jeffrey
Okay, good for you.
Corey
But I missed her when she went back home. So I decided that I wanted to surprise her and I booked a flight the next day to her hometown.
Brooke
Wait, the next day? Like the day she left and the next day you booked a surprise flight to see her?
Corey
I did.
Jeffrey
Oh, so like right as she's going, she's not gonna expect you to just, boom, be right there.
Brooke
I mean, maybe she needed a break after a whole month together.
Jeffrey
Yeah, some people would call you clingy, but not. We think it's romantic.
Corey
I appreciate your support, guys.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, yeah, it's a nice gesture. So you flew to Canada.
Corey
I flew to Canada, and I go to her apartment, and there's no answer. She's not home.
Brooke
Oh, well, she's not expecting you, so
Jeffrey
if you didn't tell her.
Corey
Right. So it's fine. I hang around for a few hours, and she never came back. So eventually, I just went to a coffee shop and.
Brooke
Wait, did you not, like, call her during this time and just randomly be like, hey, what you doing? Where are you at?
Corey
Well. Well, eventually I did. Right? So, like, after a while, I texted her and I said, hey, what are you up to? Like, I didn't say that I was in Canada.
Jeffrey
Yeah, she could be like, I'm out with a friend, and you're like, oh,
Brooke
that's why I'm on a weekend getaway with my mom.
Corey
Oh, yeah, sure, sure. But she didn't even answer, didn't text me back.
Brooke
Well, but it's Canada. There's a lot of spotty cell service.
Jeffrey
Yeah. All right, so she's not answering your text. Texts.
Sage
She's not.
Corey
And then I tried calling. She's also not picking up the phone. So I went back to her place, and I saw a light on in the window, and I ring the doorbell, and then the light went off.
Sage
Oh.
Jeffrey
Oh, she didn't pay her electric bill. Oh, no. The ding of the doorbell was the last.
Brooke
Okay, wait, is this. And is this an apartment where you can walk straight up to her door, or are you buzzing in at the front?
Jeffrey
Oh, like at the gate or at the. At the concierge? These are the important details that we. We're, like, investigating.
Brooke
I'll tell you why I think it's important, because I want to know if she can see that you're out there. Like, did she see you? And then flip the light off?
Caller/Listener
Oh, because, like, if I don't see who's at my door, I'm shut off my lights and pretending I'm not home, too.
Corey
Okay, well, that's what I'm wondering is if she saw me, like, on a. On a ring cam or, like, a camera I didn't see or something. Like, I'm wondering if she's avoiding me. Like, I just don't know what's going on.
Brooke
So you're still there?
Jeffrey
I'm still here outside her apartment right now. Yeah.
Corey
Well, I'm not Outside? No, but like, I'm here. I'm in Canada, and it's getting to the point where I just need to, like, get a hold of her and find out what's going on.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
How many times have you tried to call her?
Corey
Like, I've tried to call her three or four times and that never happens. Like, it never happens that she just doesn't answer. We always answer each other.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Or a man. Quick text, like, I'm busy. I'll call you in a little bit.
Brooke
You are so calm. I mean, I know she didn't know that you were coming in, but if I was in your position, I would be mad, dude.
Jeffrey
And you must have so many thoughts going through your head, like mad and sad.
Brooke
And what are you feeling?
Corey
Yeah, I'm more confused right now and I just now want to know what is happening.
Jeffrey
Clearly something is up because she's acting. Not even acting at all. Not even responding to you. What if she's getting awesome? I'm finally home in my own bed. Sleep. You know when you're on vacation for a while and you finally get back to your own bed, you go into like hibernation mode for two weeks.
Brooke
I'm just crossing my fingers for an automatic light. Timers.
Jeffrey
Our timers. Well, whatever it is, we need to figure out a way to get you some answers or you'll be stuck in Canada for no reason. You're Canadian.
Brooke
I think he can go home.
Jeffrey
I don't think so.
Brooke
Oh, okay.
Jeffrey
I've heard it's like a prison, but I don't know, like an international negotiation. Anyway, we need to think of some advice to give you. If we can get your girlfriend to answer the phone so you can figure out what is going on with your longdistance boo. When we come back and do your awkward Tuesday phone call in Canada right after this. Hold on. It's awkward.
Brooke
It's Tuesday.
Jeffrey
It's awkward Tuesday phone call. We've got Corey on the phone who is making a long distance call from Canada as we speak. So let's make sure we drag this out as long as possible.
Brooke
That cell phone bill, I think it's usually free between we travel back and forth.
Jeffrey
Is that what your cell phone company told you?
Brooke
It is?
Corey
Is that not the case?
Brooke
No, no.
Jeffrey
You're good.
Brooke
You're good. Yeah.
Jeffrey
You're good to Canada. You should be fine. Okay, we'll see. Okay, this is what we know. Corey is an American. His long distance Canadian girlfriend, Sage stayed with him for a month recently. They had such a great time that the day after she went home, Corey hopped on a plane to go surprise her in her hometown. So he's there right now. Been to her place several times.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
She's not answering the door, but she
Brooke
is turning the light off on and
Jeffrey
then off as soon as the doorbell rings, so that's a little suspicious. And now she won't even pick up his calls or his texts, so something is definitely up. And we never really discussed this in the first part, but how many of us, in the back of their minds, thought she could be cheating? Where she has a Canadian boyfriend and Corey is her hot, young American side piece below the border? That's what I thought, but I project from the thousands and thousands of second dates I heard.
Brooke
Oh, she's definitely got something that.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay. Well, I think so, then.
Caller/Listener
Yeah, I need a break from him after a month, like we said.
Brooke
I mean, if it's area codes, why not country codes?
Jeffrey
Different. Different bros and country codes. Yeah.
Corey
You guys are making me worried. I'm getting really nervous.
Brooke
How are you not already jumping?
Corey
Well, I am. Look, I'm already nervous, but I don't know. I guess I just never considered that she might have another guy, another life.
Jeffrey
Good. Well, we don't want to put you, like, not at ease here. We want to help you, so we need to give you some advice. Brooke. What do you think he needs to keep in mind?
Brooke
Well, everything we just brought up, I want you to ignore.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay.
Brooke
No, because the thing is, like, yeah, maybe a lot of the signs are pointing that way right now, but those are all assumptions. And when we get her on the phone, you need to go from the very beginning, that feeling of excitement and joy to see her. Right. This is a fun surprise.
Corey
Yes. Yeah. Well, I mean, that's what it's supposed to be.
Brooke
Yes. Yes. And if you come in all accusatory, like, who are you? Why aren't you doing this? And why aren't you picking up my phone? You're gonna come off as a crazy stalker. Yeah, you know what I mean.
Jeffrey
Even if you hear Drake in the background of the phone call, when she answers, you need to pretend like nothing weird is happening. He did recently drop an album. He could be around some, and I heard he likes it with the lights off. So.
Brooke
Not to say be so Drake and candles everywhere. So boring.
Jeffrey
Anyway, I don't know if any of this advice is actually helpful to you, Corey, but it's the best that we got.
Corey
Well, it's good to stay positive and remember that everything's not necessarily a disaster.
Jeffrey
That's thinking like a true Canadian. Well, okay, so, yeah, no matter what
Brooke
happens, she'll apologize for it.
Jeffrey
Yeah, right. So what they do, we'll bank on that. I'm going to start dialing her number and we'll step away and let you make your awkward call. Good luck. Oh, yes. Dialing international. This is weird. Okay, just give me a second. Here we go.
Sage
Hello?
Corey
Oh, baby. Oh, my God, you answered the phone. Thank God. It's me.
Sage
Hi.
Corey
Hi, it's me.
Sage
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Oh, no.
Corey
I mean, are you. Are you okay? I mean, I've been calling you and texting you and you haven't been answering, so I just. Hi. What's going on?
Sage
I mean, yeah, I've seen your calls and your messages. I've just been taking some time to myself after my trip down to you and stuff.
Corey
Well, I don't. I just missed you and. Well, I mean, look, I guess I gotta come clean, so. Babe, after you spent your month with me, I loved every minute of it. And so I wanted to surprise you and I came to Canada. I'm here right now.
Sage
Yeah, I know.
Corey
Oh, you. You know?
Sage
Yeah, I saw you on my ring camera.
Corey
Okay, well, I mean, what's going on? I mean, is there like another guy? Like, my friends told me just to be optimistic and positive because I thought our time was so great together.
Sage
No, I mean, it was great and there is no other guy. I really did enjoy our month together, but I think you need to go back to the States.
Corey
Well, why do I need to go back to the States? I don't understand.
Sage
On the plane ride back home for me, I wrote you a letter and I mailed it once I landed and it should be arriving to you, hopefully soon. And I just need you to go back to the States and read the letter. And then you can come back to Canada if you want. But it's really important that you read the letter first.
Corey
Try trying to stay. Trying to stay optimistic. But I mean, that sounds like a. Sounds a lot like a breakup letter.
Sage
I mean, it's just. It's important for you to just go back to the States and read the letter before anything else.
Corey
Well, what.
Sage
Why? Because, Corey, we're from two different countries, literally. And it's just. I saw how much you loved your hometown, all the home, things that you have to offer, and I love Canada. I'm not going to leave my home. And I know you're not going to leave your home, so just go back home, read the letter, Understand what's in the letter.
Corey
Okay, well, let Me Propose something? Because I'm kind of pulling a John Cusack under your window right now. So can you maybe, like, just tell me what's in the letter and we can have that whole conversation quicker?
Sage
What?
Brooke
You're at her apartment?
Jeffrey
Yeah. The John Cusack reference wasn't very strong. Yeah. You gotta explain that a little more.
Corey
Well, yeah. I mean, I walked back over. I'm just.
Sage
Wait, wait, wait, wait. Corey, what's going on?
Jeffrey
I think she's hearing us. Corey. Oh, yeah, she can hear us now.
Corey
I'm so sorry. I didn't know what to do, and you weren't answering, so it's like a radio show, and people, they call people, and then people answer, and we're called.
Jeffrey
We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. Good morning.
Sage
Hi. Hi.
Jeffrey
Hey. Sorry. This is awkward.
Corey
I just didn't know what to do, babe. And, like, I really care about you. And, I mean, I. I know we, like, talked about, like, moving to the U.S. and. I mean, what's wrong with the U.S. like, I thought we had a great time. Like, we. We went to sporting events, went to the cheesecake. I took you to Applebee's, babe.
Brooke
You showed all our secrets.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Yeah. I dare you to find one bad thing about the United States of America.
Corey
Yeah.
Jeffrey
You show her Cracker Barrel, she'll never go back.
Brooke
No, it's the endless shrimp at Red Lobster you gotta get her to. That's where his mistake was.
Jeffrey
Okay, sorry, We're. I know we're joking around a lot, Sage.
Brooke
Especially because Canada has most of those changes.
Jeffrey
Yeah. But Corey obviously feels very strongly about you. He's there right now.
Sage
I mean, like I said to him, he's a great guy. We had a great time. But everything that I need to say is in the letter. I'm not going to air everything out with the radio station. Like, this is just bonkers. Like, is this what you Americans do? Like, I just. I, like, can't understand.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we do, like, kind of weird stuff.
Brooke
Yeah. We don't, like privacy.
Jeffrey
And also, letters are not really our thing, so.
Brooke
No, but that's nice. I mean, at least she's, like, thinking about it now. Instead of a year into this or two years into this where suddenly you realize she won't move.
Corey
Look, babe, you're so important to me. What if we split the difference? Let's hang out in Mexico.
Brooke
I like it.
Jeffrey
Yes.
Brooke
I mean, Sage, you have a lot better tan there.
Jeffrey
I've always thought right in the middle of United States and Canada was Mexico. Tour, Bridging. The gap. Remember, geography, not American strong suits.
Sage
You know, guys, I really appreciate you trying for Corey and I to get back together or whatever, but honestly, like, I've already said too much that I've wanted to say already. It's in the letter. That's all I'm gonna say. He needs to go back to the States and just leave me in Canada.
Jeffrey
This letter. Yeah, I want to read it.
Brooke
I think he's just gonna be sad.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I don't think you want to open that.
Corey
Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to reading this letter. I gotta be honest.
Jeffrey
Accept your favorite.
Brooke
I just maybe before. Let her go get some ice cream,
Jeffrey
put on some Drake.
Corey
Yeah, I would. I would normally go to a Cheesecake Factory, but that's kind of ruined now.
Brooke
Wow, one girl did it for you.
Jeffrey
Dang, bro. Okay, well, Sage, I mean, we appreciate you answering and opening up to us and being honest, so.
Brooke
Yeah, you got to respect that.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Yeah. It's classic Canadian, man. Super friendly.
Brooke
Yeah. Direct to the point.
Jeffrey
Dang, I want to be Canadian. I know. I kind of want to date Sage now.
Corey
Hey, wait a minute.
Jeffrey
I'm kidding. I'm kidding.

is it just me or did you get the vibe that the intimacy wasn't great between them?
Corey
Oh wow.
Jeffrey
When they're off the phone, it is weird that she stayed with him for a month and then immediately after she's like, I gotta dump this guy. I didn't think of that.
Brooke
Or it could be the other way around. It could have been so good that she's like, this is amazing, but I can't move for this, you know?
Jeffrey
No, but Brooke, be honest. He sounded like a me for first type of guy where it's like, I'll get to you after I got mine. No, Jeff, why are we even talking about this?
Brooke
This was not part of the bedroom.
Jeffrey
Are you kidding? You told me that outside the studio. You said. You said he sounds selfish in bed.
Brooke
No, I did. Those were your words.
Jeffrey
Oh my God, I hate when you do this. You set me up, you tell me things off the air and then act like you didn't.
Caller/Listener
I did not.
Jeffrey
You said, I bet she's never even went once.
Brooke
I never even thought it. I never even thought it.
Jeffrey
Oh really?
Caller/Listener
We just need read the letter.
Jeffrey
I'm sure it's all written for them.
Brooke
Maybe there's a diagram in the letter. Of which he could have done better.
Jeffrey
I hope so. I do feel bad about how that played out though, that that was tragic to hear. But it does sound like it's probably the best for both of them moving forward.

Think about it. When it comes to your own food, you can walk into a restaurant, see what's being made, and know exactly what you're getting. But with dog food, most brands keep that completely hidden. Just Food for Dogs does the opposite. They've built their entire brand around open kitchens. You can actually walk in and watch them prepare your dog's meals with real human grade ingredients like chicken, beef, carrots and peas cooked right there in front of you. No mystery, no behind the scenes, you're not allowed to see. That kind of transparency is rare in the pet food world, and it's a big reason they've become the number one vet recommended fresh dog food, earning trust from pet parents who want to feel confident in what they're feeding. When a brand is willing to show you exactly how your dog's food is made, it says a lot about the care, quality and standards behind every meal they produce. Nothing to hide, everything to love, go to justfoodfordogs.com and get 50% off your first order.

The episode is classic Brooke & Jeffrey: a combination of lighthearted banter, pop-culture riffs, and genuine awkwardness softened by comic asides. Even the difficult emotional moments are balanced with jokes, and the hosts’ empathy with Corey is evident as they support him through disappointment.
This episode dives into the messiest kind of second date: the relationship-ending conversation that one party tries desperately to avoid. After a whirlwind of love and a grand romantic gesture, Corey is left stranded and confused, only to be gently (and very Canadianly) turned away by Sage, who chooses to communicate her feelings in an old-fashioned breakup letter.
Full of empathy, hard truths, and comic relief, “Something Smells In Canada” is a perfect example of why “Second Date Update” remains both relatable and entertaining—reminding listeners that sometimes the answer is just “it’s over,” but at least you can laugh about it afterward.
