Jeff
Sam, that has to be the craziest story in okay, Storytime podcast history.
John
Well, John, that's because it's dump of week and this user writes, last week we had an attempted break in. I asked my husband, who was supposed to be at his mom's, to come over and change the locks. Brooke
Hey, it's a Sunday edition, of course, of your second Date Update podcast. It's Brick and Jeffrey in the morning. I tell you, I am freaking out a little bit right now because I was just eating a salad out in the hallway. Not standing in the hallway eating it. I was at my desk. Okay. But I bit off part of the plastic fork. Oh, no. And I. Well, I spit out what it was in my mouth, but I still. Now I'm like, paranoid. It's in my throat, dude.
Jose
That happened to me the other day, but it wasn't in my mouth. I actually like part of it. I heard it break. I was missing one of the tines and I was looking. I could never find it in myself.
Brooke
I broke a fork here today too. I'm not even kidding. Yeah, so these forks are cheap. Yeah.
Jose
We demand silver for.
Brooke
That's right. Only silver. I'm just gonna go metal, but I like your idea. Okay. All right. So today is always a little special feature, a little something different that we do on our full show and we want to bring it over here and see what you guys think. Yeah, definitely relationship drama. If you've heard the say yes to the X segment that we've done before, that's where we just try and help someone get back together with their ex. And I'm just going to tell you today, today, celebrity impressions play a major role. Yes, they do. And they brought me a lot of delight. Jose was really on point.
Jose
Anytime there can be impressions, I'm a happy guy.
Brooke
So I think you're really going to enjoy this. Sit back and I'll let you know how the fork turns out later. All right. Say yes to the X. Only on the home. With a second date update, it's Brook and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
If there's one thing that we know about seduction, it' guys who do character impressions get all the ladies.
Brooke
Uh huh.
Jeff
Oh, yeah. Am I right, Jose?
Jose
It's true. You just can't tell everyone on Social.
Brooke
You gotta act like you get rejected a lot.
Jeff
That's why we were Baffled, wondering, how on earth does our listener who does a flawless Shrek voice get dumped by the love of his life over it?
Jose
Sound like a catch?
Jeff
We won't stand for that, will we, team?
Brooke
No. No way.
Jeff
That's right.
Brooke
It's a rallying cry.
Jose
Oo ay.
Jeff
We're gonna grab our torch and pitch and peel back the layers of this onion as we chase down his happily ever after in a brand new say.
Brooke
Yes to the X. Oh, my God.
Art
Tell him when we're gonna do it, Donkey.
Jose
Wait, what time is it next?
Jeff
Donkey?
Jose
It's coming up next. That's it.
Brooke
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
Alexis, when you look back at your dating life, who would you say is the one that got away?
Brooke
Ooh, big question.
Jeff
And by got away, I mean he ditched you in the subway tunnels below London after you puked on his arsenal.
Brooke
I was going to say probably the one who had the visa expired. It's always tough.
Jeff
Because for a lot of people, there is that one person, that one old flame from your past that just didn't work out back then for whatever reason. But you've always thought maybe there's a chance that we've both matured enough where we could be great together Now.
Brooke
I love those rose colored glasses. Let's go, Jeff.
Jeff
Just need the chance. And today we're giving that opportunity to someone to find out with another edition of say yes to the X.
Brooke
Yes.
Jeff
We haven't done this in a while.
Brooke
I love this segment.
Jeff
Yeah. One of our listeners reached out for help today. His name is Art. So, Art, welcome to the show.
Art
Hey, guys.
Jeff
What's up, Art?
Brooke
You guys are so excited to hear what made you write in.
Art
Me and my ex, Lisa, we broke up about six months ago.
Brooke
Oh, pretty fresh, that is.
Jeff
Not too long. Okay.
Brooke
You doing okay?
Art
I mean, it hasn't been great since then, if I'm being honest.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
Oh, man.
Art
You know, we were together for like almost two years, so.
Brooke
Oh.
Jeff
Oh, okay.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
You know, I haven't been there, Art, but I can understand what you're going through.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Jeff
Yeah.
Brooke
Is this the Jeff I've never been dumped before moment?
Jeff
I mean, those are just facts, Brooke.
Jose
Jeff is dating his first love from second grade school yard.
Jeff
Don't be mad. They're facts. You can't be mad at truth.
Brooke
So most people, I mean, I think everybody else could. We have a lot of empathy for you. We've been in this place before. It's hard. It takes longer than six months.
Jeff
Yeah.
Jose
That's why I think we're shocked that it's been six months, because usually it's like, six years, and you're like, now I have clarity or something.
Jeff
Well, tell us more about Lisa and. And your guys's relationship.
Art
Well, you know how long relationships are. Sometimes after a while, you kind of get on each other's nerves and.
Brooke
Oh, yeah. I mean, I think.
Jose
Anybody?
Brooke
Yeah. After a year, it's like, can I stand them or not? No.
Jeff
Year seems kind of short, but. Yeah.
Brooke
Well, I mean, that's when you really know, like, if you're gonna keep going. So.
Jeff
Okay, so when did that happen for you and Lisa?
Art
I mean, it was, like, kind of near the end, maybe. It's in the last, like, two, three months. And, you know, I felt like I was really getting on her nerves. Near the end there. For example, like, she got mad at me because, like, I couldn't spell the word definitely in a text.
Jeff
Oh, God, definitely. That's a tough one.
Jose
Yeah, I always rely on autocorrect for that.
Art
But, I mean, she just, like, laid into me, and then, like, when I got home, she, like, was quizzing me.
Brooke
Quizzing you?
Art
It was like a spelling bee.
Jeff
What was she, like, an English teacher or something?
Jose
Oh, yeah, that could be.
Art
No, I. That's, like, the whole thing.
Brooke
I mean, that couldn't have felt good. That would feel like your partner's, like, trying to make you feel stupid. I feel like it's like she's already annoyed. So everything he does annoys you. She's just like. I think she's trying to prove to herself how dumb he is or something. I mean, you're not dumb. I'm not saying that.
Jeff
I'm just saying.
Brooke
That's not what I meant.
Jose
But seriously, if a girl gets that in her head, they'll be on edge. Like, they'll be.
Brooke
I don't think it's hard. Anybody? Anybody?
Jeff
So was it just the misspelled words that caused the tension, or was there other stuff?
Art
I mean, there was, like, other stuff, like, inside jokes and stuff. We had, like. She used to, like, always laugh at my Shrek voice and.
Jeff
Oh, you can do a Shrek voice?
Art
Well, I retired it. I don't do it anymore.
Brooke
Okay.
Jose
Reminds you of her.
Jeff
It's just a bedroom thing between you guys?
Brooke
Okay, that's fine.
Jose
A bedroom.
Jeff
You know, everybody, whatever works. We don't judge. It's great.
Brooke
It's really funny.
Jeff
Wait, so cute is what you mean? Bro, it's really cute.
Brooke
Did she change? Did she not enjoy your Shrek voice anymore?
Art
No, she just, like, stopped Laughing every time I did it. And then I just stopped doing it.
Brooke
Oh.
Jeff
Oh, man.
Jose
So can I fast forward? Like, are we gonna call her, try to get her back? Like, what makes you think six months has passed and now she's ready?
Brooke
She misses Shrek.
Jeff
I mean, that's huge.
Jose
She saw the trailer for the new one.
Jeff
It is usually about six months between every new Shrek film, so that's about the amount of time it takes to reset.
Jose
No, but seriously, like, what makes you think you're ready?
Art
Oh, I'm just so bummed, man. I'm just, like, so bummed without her. And, you know, my mom keeps, like, harping on me, and she's like, aren't you gonna, like, at least try to fight for your relationship?
Brooke
I don't know. I mean, she wasn't very kind to you at the end. Like, obviously, it sounds like she was snowballing.
Jeff
And honestly, we are only hearing one side of the story. This is.
Jose
Oh, that's true.
Jeff
This is what Art thinks broke them up. There may be something totally different that his girlfriend Lisa would have said.
Jose
That's actually true.
Jeff
I mean, honestly, she may have loved the Shrek and just used it as an excuse.
Jose
She's like, it's his donkey. I couldn't stand.
Brooke
Yeah, as an excuse, Jeff. I don't know about that.
Jeff
But there is always. I just.
Jose
We don't know.
Brooke
I know. It just sounds like. All I'm saying is it sounds like she was not as nice as she could have been towards the end. Like, just making fun of him for not being able to spell, for God's sakes.
Jeff
Well, now are you in a better place? Can you spell? Definitely.
Brooke
Yeah.
Art
He'S putting me on the spot.
Brooke
Okay, you gotta be ready. Cause if we call this woman and she's like, this is the defining moment.
Jose
Whether or not this is the defiant moment.
Brooke
Go write it down somewhere.
Jeff
She wants to see that you've changed enough, probably. If you want her to take you back.
Art
The only thing that's changed is now I'm miserable.
Jose
Okay, but do you think someone else is gonna be, like, the reason for your happiness?
Brooke
But listen, maybe she's miserable, too. Maybe she's sitting back there and regretting being so hard on you for all stuff.
Jeff
Yes, two miserables do make a happy in the math world.
Brooke
I think that's the math.
Jeff
I think so.
Brooke
Yeah. Couples math.
Jeff
And we should find out what she's going to say, because as you know. Art, you gave Lisa's number to our producer. He got her on the phone and she just doesn't know that it's you waiting on the other line.
Brooke
Oh, my God. When was the last time you talked to her?
Art
At the dog park, like, maybe like, four months ago. And she kind of just ignored me.
Jeff
Oh, okay.
Art
Maybe it's because I didn't, like, have a dog. She thought I was, like, there just to see her.
Jose
Oh, yeah, that's different.
Jeff
Okay, which.
Art
Which I kind of was, but okay.
Jeff
Or maybe she was fighting her own feelings because they were so strong, but. So she's there. She doesn't know who's on the other line. It's a mystery person to her. But I'm going to tell you some new information here. Apparently, she has been dating our producer. Found that out.
Brooke
Oh, my gosh.
Art
She's dating other people, Buddy, usually you.
Brooke
Do when you break up with someone. That's what you told our producer. But I don't know again, they're not you, you know?
Jeff
Yeah, and his Shrek voice, I'm sure, is nowhere near as immaculate as yours, whoever they are. But it doesn't matter. We're gonna see what happens.
Jose
We don't do one, Jeff.
Jeff
Yeah, I'm not. Yeah, we're gonna see what happens when we connect you with your ex girlfriend, Lisa, when we do Say yes to the ex. Coming up right after this.
Art
I mean, I don't want to do it if she's, like, dating another dude.
Jeff
No, no, I think she's dating.
Brooke
Not in a relationship.
Jeff
Yeah, it's like a multitude of dudes.
Brooke
Don't say it's, like, that way. Jeffrey. We're supposed to make him feel better.
Jeff
Okay.
Brooke
Worse.
Jeff
All right, we'll say something nice during the break, and then when we come back, we'll continue. Say yes to the ex. Right.
Brooke
I got your back, Art.
Jose
Yeah, bro.
Art
Thank you.
Jeff
It's happening right after this. If you're just joining us, we're in the middle of say yes to the X with our listener, Art.
Brooke
Yes.
Jose
These are, like, kind of. I wouldn't say tense, but there's something going on.
Brooke
I know. I'm a little worried.
Jose
Yeah, maybe it is tense.
Jeff
Well, Art's been missing his ex girlfriend Lisa, after they split up about six months ago, hasn't fully gotten over it and feels like he was a better, happier person when they were together, when she wasn't criticizing his spelling errors.
Jose
So they say some people make you better person. Right. They compliment you.
Jeff
Yeah. At least they think they're trying to make you better. So he gave us Lisa's number, and our producer has reached out to her. She's agreed to be on the show with us. She's waiting on hold right now.
Brooke
But she has no idea it's to talk to Art?
Jeff
No, she just knows somebody is wanting to reach her and speak to her about something. Doesn't know who yet, so it could be her.
Jose
She thinks it's her favorite artist. Taylor Swift wants to talk to her, and she's gonna end up talking to her ex?
Jeff
Maybe. Yeah.
Jose
I mean, it's kind of a high high, right?
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
Low. Low.
Brooke
Yeah. I'm just worried about Art. Art, how are you feeling?
Art
I don't know. Kind of nervous and.
Brooke
Yeah.
Art
I just have one question for you guys.
Jeff
Yeah.
Art
Should I do the Shrek voice for her, you think, or.
Jeff
No?
Brooke
Considering she said she didn't like it, probably not.
Jose
Oh, that's right. She literally said she didn't like it.
Brooke
Jose would like it.
Art
No, she didn't say she didn't like it. She just stopped laughing at it.
Jose
Yeah. Does she have to say it could be.
Jeff
It could be worth a shot. Like, it might bring her back to that mental place in her life where she's like, oh, yeah, I love you, Shre.
Brooke
Can we just say maybe you can use it as a last resort, because I don't know how reliable it is. If you need.
Jose
If we need a quick laugh, keep that in your pocket, brother, because that's going to crack the room up. Okay.
Art
Done and done.
Jeff
Yeah. All right.
Brooke
Actually, I haven't heard him this excited about anything. I know.
Jeff
We finally have some upward momentum, so let's get Lisa on the phone here. Stay quiet until we call you on. All right?
Art
Okay.
Jeff
Okay.
Jose
Okay. Nice.
Jeff
Here we go. Let's punch her up. Hey, is this Lisa?
Lisa
Hi.
Jeff
Hey, Lisa.
Brooke
Hey, Lisa. Welcome to the show. Hi.
Jose
Good morning.
Lisa
Good morning.
Jeff
Yeah. So obviously, you know you're on Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning, and just want to thank you for being with us today.
Lisa
Yeah, absolutely.
Brooke
Oh, my God. What'd you think when our producer reached out to you?
Lisa
I was a little thrown, but I'm kind of excited.
Jeff
Yeah, you should be. That's the right emotion. Because I don't know if you're familiar with us, but we do a lot of dating segments on this show, and we've got somebody very, very special waiting on the other line hoping to talk to you.
Lisa
Okay.
Jeff
Do you have any guesses about who that might be?
Art
Um.
Lisa
Is it Luke?
Jeff
Oh, God, no. Keep going.
Art
Maybe.
Jeff
Guess again.
Art
Not.
Jeff
It's not Luke. Luke would never do anything this brave.
Art
Um.
Lisa
Oh, my gosh. Is it Andrew.
Jeff
Okay, well, you're more people than I thought.
Brooke
We're getting farther away from the truth.
Jeff
We'll give you a max of 30 more guesses. Let's keep going.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
No, I'm just going to tell you this. It's a guy that you dated for a few years, actually. His name's Art.
Lisa
Oh, I'm. Okay. I thought this was like, a new dating thing.
Brooke
Okay, that's a positive response.
Jose
It could be a newer dating thing.
Jeff
In a way. He is kind of new and improved since six months ago.
Jose
Yeah, and more mature.
Jeff
Since you're already on the phone, maybe you should just talk to him be. Because he is waiting on the other line.
Lisa
Seriously?
Jeff
Very serious. Are. Are you there? Yeah.
Art
Halisa. Sorry, this is a little awkward. I just didn't know how to talk to you.
Jose
Surprise.
Lisa
Okay. I mean, I guess, like, stopping at the dog park wasn't the best option a few months back, but let's try this.
Art
No, no. I mean, I was there. I was just. I was meeting a friend there.
Lisa
Okay. What do you need? What's going on?
Art
Well, I mean, it just, like, you know, I mean, I guess it sounds like you're dating a lot of guys and it's probably gotta suck. Like, dating's a bummer, right? Like.
Lisa
No, it's actually really great. I'm having a fantastic time.
Art
I mean, everyone says that, but I'm sure, like, on the inside you're kind of sad and maybe you, like, miss the stability or being in a real relationship.
Lisa
Is that something your mom told you to tell me?
Brooke
No. Right. For the jugular.
Jeff
No.
Art
I mean, look, I just. I want to let you know that, like, I've had a lot of growth since we broke up, and it's like, I know that, like, there was some things that I did that annoyed you, but, like, I've really worked on that. And, like, I even, like, took a class online on how to be less annoying.
Lisa
Okay, this 100% smells of your mom. She was always in her business. Did she sign you up for the class?
Brooke
Yikes.
Art
No, I signed myself up. My mom was like, the rock in our relationship. Like, yeah, she gives me good advice. She gave you great advice. You know, between the three of us, she gave us both a lot of great advice.
Jose
Even herself.
Lisa
Art, that's part of the problem. I'm not in a relationship, nor do I want to be in a relationship with your mom.
Jose
Is that what's happening?
Jeff
Are you saying that if he's willing to ditch his mom permanently, never see her again.
Brooke
Art, did You. Did you hear that?
Art
Yeah. I mean, I guess I just feel like we were probably better together than we were apart. We were a really good team.
Jeff
Okay.
Brooke
I mean, if his mom stepped back from the relationship, I mean, maybe. Maybe that was actually the problem, which isn't necessarily Art's fault.
Lisa
I mean, that's part of his fault, because he's allowing his mom to be in the relationship. There's just so many other issues that, I mean, I don't have time to get into. Do it on a radio show right now.
Jose
Oh, man.
Jeff
Okay, this might be.
Brooke
I don't know, that Art needs to hear them all again.
Jeff
Yeah, this might be the time to bust out the Shrek.
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Lisa
He told you that?
Brooke
Yeah, we heard you love it.
Lisa
You know, I didn't mind it until he farted at a work event that I had and then in his Shrek voice said, better out than in.
Brooke
I always said I like Shrek, though.
Jose
I mean, that's the best impression.
Jeff
Brook, just snort last Shrek.
Brooke
Did I work in this?
Jose
That's, like, really good Shrek impression.
Brooke
That is not. That's not going to prove your maturity.
Jeff
Humor is the thing that brings everybody together. So, look, Lisa, the name of this segment is called say yes to the X. And now that you've had a couple minutes to get reacquainted with your ex, we're just wondering, would you be willing to take a chance, a leap of faith, and at least meet up with Art one more time? Maybe grab some coffee and hear him out? Because I'm sure it's fun to be single and dating and hooking up with all these random hot guys, having no responsibilities and just party 24 7.
Brooke
You could have just stopped talking.
Jeff
But Art is the steady old wooden ship in the stormy seas of love.
Brooke
Nobody wants to board that ship.
Jeff
Yeah. Okay, you know what? Forget it, Art. I'm gonna step away and let you take over. Say whatever you need to say to Lisa.
Art
I mean, you. You remember, like, when we were kind of getting down with it and I would pull out the Alrighty, I'm getting on the right way for the smacked bottom.
Jeff
My God, it was a bedroom thing. Lisa, did that sway ya?
Lisa
I have to say, when you lay it all out there, I'm gonna choose the other guys.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
I thought you were guys plural.
Brooke
I know. Did you have to add a nest?
Lisa
Yeah. You guys. I'm sorry, Art, I wish you the best. We had our time, but it's done.
Brooke
Aw.
Art
I mean, you think if it doesn't work out between you and those other guys, I could reach out back to you in, like, six months.
Jeff
No, it's hopeful.
Lisa
Absolutely not.
Jeff
All right, man, I'm sorry. It's a say no to the X.
Brooke
On this round, but remember, this is your jumping off point.
Art
Yeah, I guess.
Jeff
I hate to hear you dejected like this, Art. Look, we've never done this before, but we all really like you. And I'm going to give you one free say yes to the X segment. If you get into another relationship and she breaks up with you, you get a freebie on the house.
Brooke
Jeff, all of our segments are free. Well, nobody pays anything to be on this show.
Jeff
He doesn't know that, Brooke. Okay? We're all rooting for you.
Art
So you're rooting for me to get together with someone and then she breaks up with me and I have to get her on the radio.
Jeff
We're desperate for content, Art. Yes, that's our hope, Art.
Brooke
I'll just buy you a drink sometime. That's a little bit more.
Jeff
She wants to hear that Shrek accent.
Jose
Irl. She loved it.
Brooke
You stop it.
Art
I like what I'm hearing.
Brooke
Again, no. Okay, the offer's off the table now, Art. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

[17:51]
Art attempts to use humor, referencing his discontinued "Shrek voice" which had been a point of contention in their relationship, but this only further cements Lisa's decision to move on.
