Yeah, we broke up a couple of months ago, actually.

Well, how long were you guys together?

We dated for gosh, probably 549 days.

Probably a year and a half. Am I doing.

Okay. I mean, sounds like he doesn't remember. I almost said okay.

Can we ask why you broke up.

[Barrick]

She felt like I wasn't putting enough effort into the relationship, which, I don't know, I feel like all I did was put an effort.

[Jeff]

All right, sometimes the effort you're putting in is a different type of effort than she's wanting.

[Brooke]

Yeah, yeah, it's like those love language things when they don't match up, you know?

[Jeff]

But it sounds like you were pretty blindsided by the breakup.

[Barrick]

Oh, my God. It floored me. Guys.

[Brooke]

Oh, hey. I'm guessing you haven't dated anyone else.

[Jeff]

No. Okay, so what's happened in the last two months since you guys broke up? How have you been doing?

[Barrick]

Yeah, when we broke up, I really wanted to prove it to her and prove why my effort, like, how far I would go for her.

Oh, you were hoping.

[Brooke]

Okay, you were too late post breakup, but that's okay.

[Jeff]

Well, better late than never.

How did you try to prove that you were willing to put in the effort after the breakup?

Well, I knew she was going on a girls trip to Mexico, and I knew the hotel she was staying at because she planned it while we were still together. Okay, I. I booked a ticket.

You didn't buy a plane ticket to surprise her, did you?

Oh, God, yeah.

Oh, wait, you showed up to her girls trip in Mexico?

Oh, no, you got to understand, like, I've seen this in every single movie.

Says, I've seen it in movies. It's never going to end.

Well, brother, this is what she meant. You're putting in a lot of work, but in the wrong avenue. We know that we can't judge it until we know how it actually went first.

What was her reaction when you showed up?

[Barrick]

Well, after I waited in the lobby for about five hours, she and her friends, they came through, and they were all dressed up, all ready to go out for dinner, and I had a bouquet of flowers in my hand, and I shouted across the hotel lobby, is this enough effort for you?

[Brooke]

[Jeff]

Poetry coming in super high. I like it. I like it. Did she swoon the flowers at her? Did she swoon right there?

[Barrick]

Everyone was shocked. It was awesome.

That's the point, I guess, right?

So I took her aside and I told her, like, jenna, I'm here to win your heart back. And I just don't understand this, because she didn't see it that way at all.

What? Are you kidding me? What is wrong with this woman? I mean, she says she wants effort. Here you are putting in all the effort in the world, and she doesn't appreciate it. God, women. Am I right, Brooke?

[Brooke]

No, I just really think you misread her boundaries like this.

[Barrick]

Well, she never told me not to come to Mexico.

[Jeff]

Yeah, see, that's on her, Brooke.

[Brooke]

When she broke. When she broke up with you. That is her telling you that she doesn't want. You could come anywhere.

Guys supposed to read between the lines and figure that out. The girls trip. It's called a girl's trip. It is girls only. That alone should have stopped you from going. They. She should have put that in the rule book somewhere if that was the case. The title. No, we don't know that. What happened when you talked to her in the lobby?

[Barrick]

Yeah, she told me I shouldn't have done it.

[Brooke]

Yeah?

[Jeff]

Yeah. Is it like. Oh, my God, you shouldn't have.

[Barrick]

Yeah, it wasn't one of those.

Okay, so you heard her message in the lobby?

Yeah. So she left with her friends and you left. I waited in the lobby for, like, another four hours.

And for her to come back from dinner, obviously.

Why?

With a few drinks so she can yell at him. Because he's still there. Okay, don't listen to everybody else in the room, Barrick. You're fine.

[Brooke]

I didn't know. Did you see her again?

[Barrick]

Yeah. I mean, she came back from dinner.

[Brooke]

Oh, no.

[Barrick]

This time I don't say anything to her. I want to give her some space. And she's does see me, but she just went up to her room and I just stayed at the resort for, like, three more days because I'm not going to fly home. I'm not going to leave right there.

[Jeff]

Go find a different resort.

[Brooke]

Yeah. Constantly around each other.

[Jeff]

It's probably too late.

[Barrick]

She never said we were over for good. Oh, no, she said the problem was effort. So this is my last shot. So after this, I just. I give up. Okay.

[Brooke]

Well, that's good. Well, yeah, Finally. This is gonna be the end. Let's get her on the phone. Let's get this over with. Let him just move on.

[Jeff]

Can we just. Again, remember, we don't have to get her on the phone. She is already on the other line. She's just waiting to talk to somebody. She doesn't know who that person is.

Oh, she's gonna be so mad.

She's gonna be so excited. Yeah. She wanted effort, and here is the maximum effort. We're gonna come back and we're gonna let you talk to your ex, Jenna, and. And everybody in the room is going to support you 100% when we connect you to. For say yes to the ex.

This is a big, like, a 360 turn from what you were saying to me out in the hallway. Because if you're just joining us, we're in the middle of a segment called say yes to the Ex, where one person, Barrick in this case, has told us he was broken up with because he was not putting in enough effort.

Yeah. And then Barrick made a decision to.

Put in the effort and flew down to Mexico to surprise his ex girlfriend, Jenna to try and win her back.

You forgot surprise her during her girl's trip to Mexico.

Yeah. Hotel. After she said she didn't want to see him for three more days. Yeah. Wild.

What's your. What's your point? That you do crazy things for love. I agree. Yeah. So now that his. Now this is his last chance to show Jenna that he is willing to put in the effort for her and possibly win her back. Or he said after this, he's going to give up forever.

Okay. And is that true, Barrick? You're going to give up if this doesn't work out? We get your word on that.

Yeah, I think I've made that decision. Yeah.

Okay. Deep breath. Crying like, she hears his voice and she's like, barrett. Yeah. This could be the sweet moment that we've all been hoping for, but let me punch her up. Hey, Jenna, you there?

Yeah, of course she's gonna be sweet.

Yeah, I know you're probably a little confused, wondering why you're here, so I'm just gonna get right to it. We're doing a segment called say yes to the Ex. And I know in this situation, it really hasn't been that long since you broke up with this person. It's only been a few months.
