Brooke
Alexis, before the second date starts, tell everyone hello in Australia. Oh, good day, mate. Oh, there we go. That must be the reason why we're charting in Australia. The top comedy podcast. Yeah, totally hot. All right, thanks for being here. And don't forget, if you do love this much of the show, we've got 45 more minutes of it over on our main feed. Just search Brooke and Jeffrey. Brooke and Jeffrey. No. Now they understand what we're talking about. Let's get to what you came for. It's your second date.
Jeffrey
Second date update. You know the saying opposites attract? I don't know if that's really true. At least not in today's call.
Brooke
Okay. I mean, typically is, but why do you say.
Jeffrey
Because the woman on the phone said that her and her date both have blonde hair, they both enjoy chocolate pudding, and they both have the same mother. How crazy is that?
Brooke
That's gross.
Jeffrey
I mean. Okay, I don't know about the last one. I may have slipped that in, I don't know. But it would be an interesting twist if that turned out to be the case.
Jana Kramer
No.
Brooke
Yeah, it's not the word I'd use. It's illegal.
Jeffrey
We draw the line at cousin stuff on this show. But please welcome Justine to the program. Hey, Justine.
Justine
Hello.
Brooke
Hi. What an intro. You do realize the same mother makes you siblings even, not cousins.
Jeffrey
Only by blood, Brooke. Only by blood. So, Justine, you said in your email that you bonded with this guy because you had a lot of similarities. What similarities did you notice?
Justine
Well, we're both really quiet.
Ken
Aw, I can see that.
Jeffrey
Do you want to talk softer during this call?
Brooke
Awkward on a first date? I don't know. It always happens. Reminds me of the movie quote, we could talk or not talk for hours from Best in Show.
Jeffrey
What's his name, by the way?
Justine
His name is Ken.
Brooke
Okay. How'd you meet him?
Justine
We met at the bank.
Brooke
At the bank.
Ken
Oh, another quiet place.
Brooke
Why'd you have to go into a bank? I know, right?
Justine
Who does that anymore?
Brooke
Yeah, I think it's interesting that two quiet people would meet in person. Like, who approached who?
Justine
Well, actually, we were both filling out paperwork side by side, and I asked him to borrow his pen, but I didn't even, like, say words. I just was like, you know, how.
Jeffrey
You do, like, you just hold your hand out like you point.
Brooke
You pointed with a nice smile.
Justine
Yeah, exactly. And that's kind of how it got started. It was pretty sweet.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Ken
When was romantic, she points and he's.
Jeffrey
Like, do you want to go out with me?
Brooke
No. I think he also did a head nod and she understood.
Ken
Wait, have you talked at all?
Brooke
Yeah. You heard this man's voice.
Jeffrey
All right, you're. That's kind of cute. You're both.
Ken
It was cute, though, the vibe. It was purely. Vibe.
Jeffrey
Yeah. So what did you guys do when you went out?
Justine
Well, at first he suggested because we were both so quiet. He said we should do this, like, dating in the dark thing.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah.
Justine
And I pointed out that's when you don't see the person, not when you don't speak to them.
Jeffrey
All right.
Brooke
Do you mean the dinner where you go dining in the dark? Is that what you mean? And you do the dark dinners?
Justine
Yeah, exactly.
Brooke
Is that what you did?
Justine
No.
Jeffrey
Because if you wouldn't see or hear.
Ken
That, I wonder if they're still here.
Brooke
Maybe you'd really like them.
Jeffrey
I know it'd be both of your happy place, but what day to my.
Ken
Life would you say a word?
Jeffrey
What did you end up doing?
Justine
We wound up going to this little Mediterranean place. And like, we were texting before we went and we agreed to each bring notebooks, so we just wrote each other notes at dinner. That's very fun for you.
Jeffrey
This is cute.
Brooke
Yeah.
Ken
I'm not saying for everyone. Wait, that would be torture for me, but this is adorable.
Brooke
Was it the whole time you wrote notes?
Justine
I mean, we talked to the waiter.
Ken
Okay, okay.
Brooke
Gave your orders.
Jeffrey
But for the rest of the time, you two tried to stay quiet and just enjoy and soak up each other's silence.
Brooke
Well, no. Write notes. They shared information still, but.
Jeffrey
Yeah, but quietly.
Brooke
Yeah, quietly. Yeah. In their way.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Ken
I bet you there's a lot of smiles every the note got passed back, though.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you'd hope. Sounds hot.
Justine
Well, and, like, we wound up laughing the whole time like we really enjoyed each other's company, which is kind of awesome. But there was a mistake. The waiter brought out only one meal at first, and it was what I had ordered, but they put it down in front of Ken, and so he started eating, and I was like. I wrote him a note and I said, no, that's mine. And he wrote back mine. What?
Brooke
Oh, no. I'm glad he didn't say. Not anymore.
Justine
Right. So it made us laugh. We both laughed a lot. It Was really fun.
Brooke
Did you get food? I worried.
Justine
Thanks for worrying. Yes.
Brooke
Okay.
Justine
He gave me back my dinner, and then his showed up.
Jeffrey
Oh, good.
Brooke
Like a challenge to not talk. That's what it almost sounds like it would be first. Yeah.
Ken
Sounds like a challenge to them would be to talk.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Like, for certain people, like, talking is a big struggle. But, like, this is the perfect date for two people that are kind of shy and introverted.
Brooke
You guys shared the last kiss by just drawing lips on two pieces of paper and putting them together.
Justine
That's funny. But no.
Jeffrey
So tell us, after the quiet dinner, how did the date end?
Justine
It didn't end with dinner, which was kind of nice.
Jeffrey
Oh, really?
Justine
We went and got ice cream, and we were people watching, and I pulled out my notebook and said, we should do this again sometime. And he wrote, yes, but that was, like, more than two weeks ago. Well, that's not true. It's almost two weeks ago, I guess.
Jeffrey
Almost two weeks. Okay.
Brooke
I don't know. I feel like this guy is going to be a slow mover just from the vibe he's given.
Ken
That's a bad thing?
Brooke
No, no, it's just who he is. Oh, he sent a letter in the mail. Yeah. It's taking a while. Like, I don't think I would be worried that he hadn't contacted you in two weeks.
Jeffrey
You guys literally do sound like an old married couple with, like, you guys go to the bank, you guys write each other notes, enjoy each other's silence, and sit on a park bench eating ice cream together.
Ken
Sounds like you guys just text, though. Obviously you're not on the phone a lot.
Justine
I mean, I sent him a text.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
That must have been a struggle for you, though, just to get one out.
Brooke
She's good at writing.
Justine
You guys are making me blush. I can't believe how hard my cheeks are burning.
Brooke
Okay, I'm just gonna say real quick, I am really impressed that you're doing this because you are really putting yourself in a place that isn't a comfortable zone for you. That's cool.
Justine
And that's actually the deal is, like, I feel like I need your help because it's so awkward to call him.
Brooke
Yeah.
Justine
And you guys are so good at the talking.
Jeffrey
I don't know if we're good at talking, but we can do a lot of talking.
Justine
We like talking.
Ken
It's not an awkward Tuesday.
Jeffrey
This would not happen. Exactly. So we're going to come back, we're going to call Quiet Ken for you and see if we can silently get him to agree to another date. We're going to do it right after this. Hold on.
Justine
Thanks.
Jeffrey
Second date update. We probably just met one of the sweetest people that we've ever had on this show before.
Brooke
I'm worried we're gonna ruin her.
Jeffrey
I hope not. Her name is Justine. She is quiet, she's kind sounding, she's got a very genuine laugh. It made us all feel good about ourselves, no matter what we said. I mean, honestly, that's so rare. If we get this guy Ken on the phone and he says something rude or disrespectful about her, hang up. I'm just letting you. I am treating her like a little sister to our show. And I'm going to be standing up for her hardcore.
Ken
Are you fighting them?
Brooke
No, if she wants to be a little sister, but.
Jeffrey
Well, I'm just saying I'm in her corner.
Brooke
Okay? Okay, Got it.
Jeffrey
And I mean, it already sounds like her heart is breaking. Because who goes on a silent date and has a great time?
Ken
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Justine and this guy. Apparently the only communication that was had the entire time was via handwritten note. So we need to figure out how to get him on the line and figure out why he is not jumping to get on another date with her.
Ken
Same vibes.
Brooke
Honestly, like, he can't have a multitude of options here. This is a guy who barely talks.
Jeffrey
Okay. This is her future husband that you're talking.
Brooke
I don't mean it in a mean way. I'm just saying he's not out there being a player. You know, like, he's not out running games because he can't pass notes to just any hot lady that walks by. It's not like he's just out on the field.
Jeffrey
Justine, do you want to defend your man?
Brooke
No, that's. She knows what I mean, right?
Justine
Making me giggle, though.
Brooke
Okay, okay.
Ken
How do we know how you just walk into a library and riz up everyone in silence?
Jeffrey
It's possible.
Brooke
Very possible.
Jeffrey
I mean, he could be like a silent Casanova that we never even knew existed.
Ken
Tossing bookmarks.
Brooke
So many hot singles at the library.
Justine
Did I tell you guys I'm a librarian? How you are.
Jeffrey
You are.
Brooke
That is the cutest. Justine, do you want to take back your library comment? No, I love the library. I actually am the only one in this room that goes.
Ken
She really does actually. All the time.
Jeffrey
All right, just stay quiet, Justine. I know you're not gonna have any trouble with that, but we're gonna call him and talk. Wait, I'm worried.
Ken
She. When she tries to pipe in, we're not gonna hear her.
Jeffrey
We'll call you in when it's time. Okay?
Ken
We'll make it obvious.
Justine
Okay. Okay, thank you.
Jeffrey
All right, hold on. Here we go.
Brooke
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hey, is this Ken?
Unknown
Yeah, speaking.
Brooke
Hi, Ken.
Jeffrey
Hey, Ken.
Ken
Hey, good morning, Ken.
Unknown
Good morning.
Brooke
Yeah, this is.
Jeffrey
You're probably hearing a lot of voices right now, and that's because you're on the radio with Broken Jeffrey in the morning. Um.
Unknown
Okay.
Ken
Hey, welcome to our show.
Brooke
Hey, Ken. We're excited to talk to you.
Unknown
Why? What? Sorry, what are you calling?
Jeffrey
Yeah, we don't want to overwhelm you, but we're doing a segment here. It's called Second Date Update. And one of our listeners asked us to reach out to you because you went on an awesome date with her the other day.
Brooke
Well, she thought it was awesome.
Jeffrey
She. Yeah, we all thought it was awesome, too, because we heard a little bit about it. We're talking about Justine.
Unknown
Yeah, her, huh?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
I think you guys went out almost two weeks ago.
Unknown
That is correct.
Brooke
Okay. Okay.
Jeffrey
I mean, she told us about the day that you two hung out, and it sounded pretty unique. Yeah, at least for us. We do a lot of these calls, but we haven't heard a lot of dates where two people go out and stay quiet and actually enjoy it.
Unknown
I'm so sorry. Just one second.
Jeffrey
You okay?
Brooke
Huh? I don't know. Maybe he's at work or something.
Jeffrey
He's nervous. He's throwing up right now.
Ken
Stop it.
Jeffrey
There's a lot of talking.
Ken
Or he's in a library and the librarians walk.
Jeffrey
They're shushing him.
Brooke
Maybe. Yes. Justine is a librarian, remember?
Jeffrey
Okay. Hey, Ken.
Ken
Sorry.
Brooke
So, look, it sounds like you're busy right now.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we don't want to take up too much of your time, but bottom line is, Justine says she had a great time. The question is, she's not getting any signals back that you wanted to hang out again, and she's kind of disappointed by that.
Unknown
I kind of don't want to hang out again.
Jeffrey
Wait, what?
Brooke
Oh, buddy, why?
Unknown
I mean, we were passing notes, right? We were talking about ourselves, and I started running out of things to say.
Brooke
Oh.
Ken
Oh, I hate writing.
Brooke
I mean, it would be a lot to write, cuz. Yeah.
Ken
Yeah. And it is hard, like when there's a low in conversation, to force a question. I mean, the first couple are okay, but by the third or fourth, you're.
Brooke
Like, so you shouldn't feel bad. That happens on all first dates. I feel like.
Jeffrey
Really, Brooke, people write on all of their dates?
Brooke
No, that's not what she moment. Yeah, where you're like, I don't know what to share right now.
Unknown
I get that. But you guys don't understand. I literally told everything about myself.
Jeffrey
Oh, you ran out of things to, like, reveal about you on the first date.
Ken
That should be impossible, bro.
Unknown
Yeah. Books, movies, interests, foods.
Brooke
Yeah. But there's more to people than just what you can hurt. That's a lot of writing. Yeah. Wrist cramps. I mean, I don't think you're giving yourself credit.
Unknown
I think you're giving me too much.
Jeffrey
Oh, no.
Ken
I know I've got to be a middle ground here.
Jeffrey
You might. Surprise. I can understand you feel a little bit nervous and intimidated, but what are you worried about? Like, what's the harm in seeing her again?
Unknown
I am. I'm worried she's gonna find out I'm not just quiet like she is. I'm boring.
Ken
Boring.
Brooke
I just broke my little heart. Dude, you're not boring. You have a, like, awesome woman. And when you do another date, that's.
Jana Kramer
What you talk about.
Brooke
The whole date is the activity like a new topic, you know? Or just what happened on the last date. Yeah, exactly.
Ken
You are just always gonna replay their first date a time.
Jeffrey
You are just the calm in a world full of chaos. We need people like you. You balance out all us idiots.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
And it doesn't matter if you think that you're boring or you're not enough. Somebody that believes that you're plenty is Justine. And don't just trust me. She's on the other line right now.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Waiting to talk to you quietly.
Brooke
This is pretty bold.
Jeffrey
Justine, are you there?
Brooke
We need to hear her.
Justine
I'm here.
Unknown
Are you guys kidding me right now? She's been listening.
Brooke
It's okay.
Ken
Embarrassing.
Brooke
I think he's about to have a heart attack. Yeah.
Unknown
Justine, I am so sorry. I can't say they need to listen to all that. Why? Why?
Justine
Because it was my idea. I was too nervous to call you, and I called somebody who could, and these sweet people have. I didn't. We didn't mean to scare you.
Jeffrey
Sweet?
Brooke
We've never been called that.
Ken
Who in this room is sweet?
Justine
It feels like maybe it backfired.
Unknown
No, no, not at all. I'm really glad to hear from you again.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God.
Ken
I feel like if we wouldn't have gotten involved, they would have never talked to each other.
Brooke
That's right. Jose, make this about us. I love it. I take the credit.
Ken
We are amazing.
Brooke
She's the one who contacted us. Don't forget.
Jeffrey
Look, I understand that you're really nervous, Ken, about talking to her and coming across a certain way. I think the pressure of being in a quiet setting is a lot. I think the next date that you go on, like, you're just in the wrong venue. Do something that's loud.
Ken
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Go to a sporting event, like, go to a comedy show where there's other stuff to point out and talk about rather than just sitting quietly together.
Justine
Comedy show would be so fun.
Brooke
Yeah, we would be fun. Would that be fun for you, Ken?
Unknown
That sounds like it would happen.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Comedy does happen.
Brooke
Yeah.
Justine
See what I mean? He's so funny.
Brooke
He's so funny.
Jeffrey
All right, look, the whole goal of this is to set you guys up on another date and lock that down, and we would pay for it. So, Justine, now that you know how he feels, you still want to go out with him again?
Justine
Very much.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Ken, did you hear that? Like, that's got to feel good, right?
Ken
Did he hang up?
Jeffrey
Hello?
Justine
Ken?
Unknown
I'm sorry. I dropped my phone. It sounds great.
Jeffrey
Okay, so we will send you guys out on another day, and we're going to pay for it. Okay, awesome.
Justine
Thank you so much. I'm so grateful, you guys.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
It just makes me want to go to the other room and shout, ken, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken. See? It feels good.
Unknown
That's a little terrifying.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay. So we should have whispered it, bro. My bad. Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken.
Unknown
That's even more terrifying.
Ken
We're not trying to wake him up.
Justine
All right.
Jeffrey
We're just gonna hang up.
US Cellular
Bye.
Brooke
Brooke and Geoffrey in the morning.
Jeffrey
Oh, man.
Brooke
If we do not get an update from them, I will die.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Ken
Are they too shy? Give us an update.
Brooke
I'm just gonna email her every week. She could write it. We could just read it.
Jeffrey
That's true.
Brooke
You know?
Jeffrey
Definitely one of the sweetest calls that we've ever had. Like, sickeningly sweet.
Brooke
I know. How are you doing? I should have asked. I'm doing okay.
Jeffrey
I just. There was something on my mind. I know we were all thinking it, but didn't want to say it. The quiet ones are always the biggest freak.
Ken
They are.
Jeffrey
You know that that's true.
Brooke
It is not true.
Jeffrey
Their bodies say what? Their mouths can't breathe.
Ken
I've had different experiences make this weird.
Brooke
You gotta make it weird.
Jeffrey
It's beautiful. They're connecting on levels that we couldn't even imagine.
Brooke
Why, we could have nothing whole on this show.
Jeffrey
I think it's sweet.
Brooke
I guess librarians often star in those movies.
Jeffrey
That's right.
Brooke
Wait a minute.
Jeffrey
You got a point.
Ken
Anyway, don't take the paddle out. I'm being too loud.
Jeffrey
You know what's happening and we can make it happen for you too. Whatever you want. Email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back.
Brooke
There goes our chance for an update.

Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – A Quiet Place Hosted by iHeartPodcasts Release Date: November 22, 2024
Introduction
In this episode of Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update, hosts Brooke and Jeffrey delve into the intriguing second date experience of Justine and Ken. The episode, titled A Quiet Place, explores the dynamics of a relationship where both individuals are naturally quiet and introspective. Through candid conversations and expert guidance, Brooke and Jeffrey aim to uncover the real reasons behind the initial ghosting and facilitate a potential second date.
The Unique Connection Between Justine and Ken
The episode opens with Jeffrey questioning the age-old saying, "opposites attract," highlighting that it may not always hold true, especially in today's dating landscape. He introduces Justine's experience with Ken, emphasizing their unexpected similarities.
Brooke expresses her surprise at Justine and Ken's identical traits, such as both having blonde hair and enjoying chocolate pudding. She humorously notes the unusual similarity of having the same mother, which Jeffrey clarifies as a slip of the tongue, hinting at their close familial ties.
As the conversation unfolds, it's revealed that Justine and Ken met in an incredibly quiet setting—a bank—where their initial interaction was limited to exchanging pens and silent gestures.
Navigating the Quiet Date
Justine describes their first date, which was designed to accommodate their quiet nature. Instead of engaging in typical conversation, they communicated through handwritten notes during dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant. This unique approach allowed them to connect without the pressure of constant verbal interaction.
Despite the unconventional method, both shared laughter and genuine enjoyment of each other's company. A humorous mishap with the dinner order further lightened the mood, reinforcing their comfort with one another.
Their date extended beyond dinner to ice cream and people-watching, where Justine bravely took the initiative to suggest a second meeting by writing in her notebook.
Challenges and Ghosting
Nearly two weeks after their delightful first date, Justine reached out to Brooke and Jeffrey for assistance after noticing Ken had not reciprocated her invitation for a second date. Concerned and disappointed, Justine felt uncertain about Ken's lack of response.
Brooke and Jeffrey discuss the potential reasons behind Ken's silence, including his preference for minimal communication and the challenges posed by their quietness.
Reaching Out to Ken
Determined to help Justine, Brooke and Jeffrey decide to contact Ken directly. Despite initial resistance and Ken's nervous demeanor, the hosts express their admiration for Justine's courage in stepping out of her comfort zone.
During the call, Ken admits to feeling overwhelmed by the silent nature of their dates and shares his fear of appearing boring.
Brooke and Jeffrey reassure Ken, encouraging him to consider alternative date settings that might better suit their communication styles.
Ultimately, Ken agrees to another date, expressing his gratitude and willingness to try a different approach.
Conclusion and Final Thoughts
The episode culminates with Brooke and Jeffrey celebrating their successful intervention, emphasizing the importance of understanding and adapting to each other's communication styles in relationships. They highlight the sweet and genuine connection between Justine and Ken, expressing hope for their future interactions.
Brooke and Jeffrey reaffirm their commitment to helping listeners navigate the complexities of dating, especially when faced with unique challenges like quietness and differing communication preferences.
