Quick Alexis, before the second date starts, tell everyone hello in Australia. Oh, good day mate. Oh, there we go. That must be the reason why we're charting in Australia on the Top Comedy podcast. Yeah, totally hot. All right, thanks for being here. And don't forget, if you do love this much of the show, we've got 45 more minutes of it over on our main feed. Just search Brooke and Jeffrey. Brooke and Jeffrey. Now they understand what we're talking about. Let's get to what you came for. It's your second date.
Jeffrey
Second date update. If you see a cute somebody out in the wild, I can tell you what animals would do.
Jose
Wait, why are safari?
Jeffrey
But it might make you blush.
Brooke
Sorry, I had to let it out. I couldn't help myself.
Jeffrey
That's just how love works in the animal world. But with humans, it's a little bit of a different story. In general, a lot of guys get too scared to approach if they spot an attractive woman out in the wild.
Brooke
Well, we are like praying mantises.
Jeffrey
Rip a guy's head off right after you're done with us.
Brooke
Yeah, that's right.
Jeffrey
That's the thing. The fear tends to take over. But one of our listeners says he found a way to conquer that fear by using a game. Apparently, it's interesting.
Brooke
Yeah, usually women don't like it when you play games.
Jeffrey
I don't know how it works. So let's welcome Richard to the show. Richard, how you doing, man?
Richard
Good. How you doing, guys?
Brooke
Oh, man. Are you a happy guy? Richard, coming in.
Jeffrey
Yeah. What's this, like, game or that you use when you approach women?
Richard
Well, it's a familiar game to all of you, I bet, but we play it in a different way. So me and my buddy, when we're out in a public place where we're around gorgeous women or women in general, and what we do is we shoot rock, paper, scissors.
Brooke
Oh, to see who gets to go talk to her first or something, whoever.
Richard
Loses is the one that has to go and strike up conversations because you're.
Jose
Both so timid about it.
Jeffrey
That's actually kind of smart because, like, either way. Either way, one of you has to approach and, like, make a move.
Brooke
This is, like, what I do.
Hannah
Pick something up, like, get off the couch, you know?
Jeffrey
Okay, that's interesting. I guess that's fun, too. So that. Did that happen to you recently?
Richard
Yeah. I mean, as you might expect, the rejection rate is pretty high. But you'd also be surprised how often it works.
Brooke
Okay. And I'm guessing it worked this time, since you're on the phone with us.
Richard
Yep, exactly. My buddy's paper covered my rock, and we were at the park one day, and there was a cute girl just sort of sitting on a blanket. Walked over and introduced myself, and her name is Hannah. And.
Brooke
Oh, and she liked your paper, huh?
Richard
Yeah.
Jose
Do you tell them about the day? Do you say, hey, how are you?
Richard
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. This is between my pal and me.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Jose
I was going to say because then that's the reason.
Brooke
I mean, you've done this so many times. Do you have a go to opening line that you use when you lose Rochambeau and have to approach?
Richard
No, not really. You use the same line. It's like anything else. It just gets tired and you're not into it.
Brooke
Yeah. So what'd you say to Hannah?
Richard
I just said, hey, how are you? It's gorgeous out. And then she said, the ladies in.
Jeffrey
This room just both swooned at the same time.
Richard
The weather. I know. It's stupid as it is. It works.
Jose
Yeah.
Brooke
But the thing is, it's not aligned. Like. That's nice. Yeah, it feels. It feels, yeah. Normal and relaxed.
Jeffrey
So were you able to get her number off of that?
Richard
Yeah, and we. We talked for a little while and we set up a dinner date, like a proper date, you know, downtown at a nice place.
Brooke
How did nice dinner go? That's exciting.
Richard
It went really well. We were in there for like about close to two, like an hour and a half, two hours. I mean, just taking our time, casual conversation. And then she looked. I mean, she looked so good. So it's one of those things where I wanted to kind of prolong the fun for as long as I could, but it had to end, of course. So we walked outside and there's like one of these live remote TV crews doing, you know, person on the street.
Brooke
Interview stuff in a positive way or at a. Your restaurant just is getting shut down for health.
Richard
Nah, nothing to do with the restaurant. They wanted to ask people about, like, crime in downtown.
Brooke
Okay.
Jose
Heard about rogue people playing rock, paper.
Brooke
Scissors in parks.
Jose
Harassing women.
Richard
Busted. So they asked me, you know, and I'm a bit of a hand, so I was like, all right.
Brooke
Oh, this is your chance.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Jose
That's fun.
Jeffrey
You did a TV interview in the middle of your.
Richard
I did.
Brooke
Wow, that's so funny.
Richard
So did my thing and then we sort of moved on from there. I didn't get a kiss. I got like a big hug.
Brooke
Really? Because you're famous now that you've been on the. Are you like, funny in the interview or you're being like dead serious talking about. I don't know.
Richard
I tried to be sincere, but I'm still trying to be light hearted about it.
Hannah
Yeah, I could just see if you.
Brooke
Turn off if you're seeing someone do that.
Jeffrey
I don't think the local TV news stations would appreciate, like a comedian coming on and joking about the crime in their city.
Jose
I wish they would ask me they really should.
Jeffrey
Ratings would go up.
Jose
You hear that, Channel seven? I'm waiting.
Jeffrey
Okay, so you said you ended with a long hug, and that seems pretty good. What's happened since then?
Richard
Not a lot. And that's why I'm kind of talking to you guys.
Brooke
Kind of? You should have used that moment to be like, come back to my place. We'll watch the 11 o'clock news together.
Jose
She knows how to get people back to her place.
Brooke
Yeah, that's right.
Richard
Jose, I need you to come with me and my buddy to the park.
Jeffrey
All right. So have you spoken to her at all since then, or.
Richard
No, it's been silent. Like, no communication back.
Brooke
Oh, dang. God, everything sounds so good. It's a mystery history.
Jeffrey
I know.
Richard
That's what I thought.
Brooke
Criminal acts.
Jeffrey
Well, I'm just happy that we have a famous person on the phone with us now. To boost the ratings of this second date update, we're gonna come back and call Hannah for you right after this second date update. Who would have thought a little rock, scissors, paper, RSP could lead to some tlc?
Brooke
No one ever said it's rock, paper, scissors.
Jeffrey
Even hpv? I don't know.
Brooke
That's good, actually. The odds are very high Y. Get your vaccine, actually.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
That didn't happen, though, because they only hugged. They just hugged at the end of the day. Too many weird acronyms coming together there. But I bring it up? I don't think so. I only bring it up because that's how our listener Richard met Hannah. A game of rock, paper, scissors led to a fancy dinner date that eventually led to a TV interview with the local news.
Brooke
That's the wildest part, man.
Jeffrey
Somewhere along the way, it must have gotten off the tracks, because now he's reaching out to us for help.
Brooke
Yeah, totally. We never heard, like, it seemed like you enjoyed the TV interview. But did she say anything about it?
Richard
I don't know. She kind of got in on it. I pulled her into the interview, and so it was, you know, both of us talking to the reporter. So that's good. Oh, yeah, the hug was after.
Brooke
Okay, okay.
Jeffrey
All right.
Jose
If she just, like, walked away in the middle.
Brooke
Oh, my God. Do you think that the reporter realized that she was interviewing someone that was on a first date? You know what I mean? Like, that's so funny.
Jeffrey
I'm nervous because we're not just calling one famous person, we're possibly calling two famous people. So pressure is on. Here we go. Let's see if Hannah picks up.
Brooke
Her phone's probably ringing. Off the hook after that interview.
Hannah
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hi, we're looking to speak with Hannah.
Hannah
Who's calling?
Jeffrey
Oh, this is a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Brooke
Maybe this is her agent.
Hannah
Okay.
Jeffrey
Is this Hannah?
Hannah
It is. How can I help you?
Jeffrey
Hi, Hannah. We're doing something on our show. It's a segment called A Second Date Update.
Brooke
Okay.
Hannah
Wow, there's a lot of you on the line there.
Brooke
Hi, radio show.
Jeffrey
You're probably disappointed that this isn't like a crime podcast.
Hannah
Okay. Yeah.
Brooke
We heard you give good local television interviews.
Hannah
Oh, wow. How'd you hear about that?
Jose
Good local radio interviews.
Jeffrey
We heard about it because a guy that you went out with recently, Richard, told us about your date.
Brooke
Did you just.
Jose
Oh, wow.
Brooke
Is that what I heard?
Hannah
It was more of an O, but yeah, we can go with.
Jose
I think it was a mix of you. It was just a. Yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, we were calling to try and ask you some questions to figure out how you felt about Richard and how you felt about the date. Yeah, because he told us a lot about it.
Hannah
Okay.
Jeffrey
Like I could just tell you. What we know is you met him at a park. You must have thought he was pretty charming because you went out to dinner with him at a nice restaurant and said you had a great time and you even got interviewed by the local news.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jose
Sounds like a cool day.
Jeffrey
Right after it was done.
Hannah
So weird.
Brooke
Very cool. Wait, what's so weird? The date was so weird or the.
Hannah
News saw like that you guys are calling me weird?
Richard
Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah. Oh, that makes sense.
Jeffrey
I understand. But we're just trying to help get Richard something answers here because he's a little bit confused why there hasn't been a second meetup.
Hannah
I'm not quite sure what he told you, but what I just said sounds like everything. Well, I guess the news thing was kind of the issue.
Brooke
It was an issue. You said that they just interviewed you about, like local crime and how you felt about it.
Hannah
That part's true. But I don't know if he told you that he actually noticed the news people first and kind of ran over to them because he said it was his dream to be on the local news.
Brooke
That's kind of endearing, though. All he said was that he was a ham. Yeah, he was totally fine being interviewed.
Jeffrey
He doesn't shy away from that.
Jose
And there's all kind of personalities. Some people are like, oh, my God, my moment. And some people were like, this sounds terrifying.
Jeffrey
Is that a turn off to you? Like he's kind of fame hungry.
Hannah
I mean, I Don't know if it was fame Hungry, but just, like, the whole thing was just really, like, just too much, like.
Jeffrey
What do you mean?
Hannah
Okay, so apparently the local news was doing a story about some kind of purse snatcher, an event that had, like, literally just happened. Oh, that night.
Jose
Oh, no.
Brooke
Oh. I thought it was, like, more generic the way he described it.
Hannah
Okay, no, it was not generic. And apparently this has been happening repeatedly in the area.
Brooke
Okay, okay.
Jeffrey
This purse snatcher person.
Hannah
And this is where it gets really creepy and weird. Yeah, he mentioned that he saw the guy, the purse snatcher guy, while we were walking into the restaurant for our date.
Brooke
Did he, though? I mean, maybe he did.
Hannah
I don't know. I mean, he said he's, like, giving the guy, the news reporter, a physical description. Like, this guy's got shifty eyes. He might have had something under his jacket.
Jose
What, he's making it all up or.
Brooke
Is that what you're thinking?
Hannah
That's what it seems like. And then, like, he goes through this whole description of this purse snatcher person and then looks right into the camera and says, and if you don't believe me, just ask my girlfriend. And then kind of pulls me into the frame.
Jose
There it is.
Brooke
That's it.
Jeffrey
Okay, yeah, he did mention that you were on TV for a bit, but I didn't realize that was how.
Hannah
No, he, like, yanked me into the frame. I was kind of standing off to the side, like, deciding whether or not I should just dip.
Jose
So did you show off your man or what?
Hannah
This was our first date, and I. I mean, the park was nice. The date was nice. But at this point, I'm like, wait, you're talking about me like I'm your girlfriend? We've only known each other for, like, three hours. Are you kidding me right now?
Brooke
And I was totally gonna give him the benefit of the doubt, like. Well, maybe he did see the purse snatcher and didn't want to tell you.
Hannah
And the best part is, afterwards, he tells me that he's super proud of me and I did great on camera.
Jeffrey
That's a nice compliment to get.
Brooke
Again, I mean, maybe he meant, like, hey, friend, that's girlfriend.
Jeffrey
No guy ever means no.
Hannah
No.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Hannah
He made it like I'm his girlfriend and that if the news people don't believe him, then he can just double check with me because I saw the guy, too.
Jeffrey
Oh, yes. Well, I. I know that it was awkward when he pulled you into the TV interview, so now we're gonna even it out and make it awkward by pulling him into this phone interview.
Hannah
Oh, my God.
Richard
Because he's.
Jeffrey
Yeah. On the other line wanting to talk to you.
Hannah
Thanks for the shout.
Richard
Hey, Hannah.
Jose
Hey.
Jeffrey
Hey.
Hannah
Hey, big guy. How's it going?
Brooke
It did hurt. Yeah.
Richard
Way twisted around. You guys, like.
Hannah
Yeah, you twisted it.
Richard
Oh, I'm. I'm saying that this is kind of embellishing. What. What happened? I mean, you know, I. I think I saw the first snatcher guy. You were right there with me. I mean, face it. I mean, if there was a guy who was gonna be downtown snatching purses, just look at that dude and think.
Hannah
Okay, well, yeah, we saw a guy. We saw lots of guys. That doesn't mean that he's the purse snatcher and that he doesn't mean he.
Richard
Doesn'T look like, as guilty or sketchy or such.
Hannah
Yeah, he looked a little sketchy, but I don't know that that's the first snatcher, and I'm not gonna go accusing him of being the first snatcher on national. On local tv.
Jeffrey
Was he holding a purse?
Hannah
No.
Brooke
Was he holding several purses? That's the key.
Hannah
No, he was just walking by in a dark outfit.
Jose
He already ditched the purchase in the alley.
Hannah
He's good at his craft. When he wasn't wearing a trench coat or anything. It wasn't like he was hiding stuff under the coat.
Richard
Yeah, but wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You were the one that said, look at that dude with, like, the bandana, you know, like, who wears him?
Hannah
And I was trying to help you find the word. I was like, you. You mean. You said he had something on his head. I'm like, oh, do you mean a bandana?
Brooke
Wait, did you say that on television?
Hannah
Yes. Oh, no.
Jeffrey
Oh, God.
Brooke
That's messed up. I was, like, going on a walk.
Jose
In the park, and now it's, like, in the hunt for crimes.
Jeffrey
All right, well, this is clearly irresponsible on Richard.
Hannah
Really?
Richard
Well, I would say it's shared responsibility. I mean, she. If they brought this guy into your studio and you took a look at them, you'd be like, yep, first snatcher, I think.
Hannah
Unfair.
Brooke
Yeah. Or they'd come into the studio and be like, which one of you did it? Yeah, you know, pretty shifty ourselves.
Jose
I probably already be friends with him.
Jeffrey
Well, the real snatching that we're interested in is the snatching of hearts in love.
Hannah
Oh, God.
Jeffrey
That's what. That's the whole goal of.
Jose
She's so illegal.
Brooke
She just threw up a little bit in her mouth.
Jeffrey
The reason that we called you Hannah is because Richard Wants to go out with you again.
Hannah
Oh, Lord.
Brooke
Maybe that's a good thing.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Hannah
I mean, are we going to have a date on television this time?
Jeffrey
I want you guys to go out again. And I think the only appropriate way to decide this. This is by doing Rock, Paper, Scissors. And if you both have the same exact thing, then you know that it's meant to be and you can go.
Jose
Out if it's a tie.
Hannah
Okay? Okay. Okay. I'll do Rock, Paper, Scissors for a date. Okay.
Jeffrey
I will count to three. On three, both shout out the name of what you're throwing. It is good for radio. And this is the one time that we're gonna do this. Unless it works. And then we're gonna do Rock, Paper, Scissors on the tens every single day. So here we go. Both ready? 1, 2, 3.
Brooke
Why would you go with paper first? It's always rock. What are you thinking?
Richard
Paper covers rock. I win.
Hannah
Let's go.
Brooke
You're out.
Jeffrey
At least we started with Rock, Paper, scissors. And we ended that way.
Brooke
Sure, that was fun.
Jeffrey
And we solved the local crime in the meantime, too. Hey, something under the jacket. Keep a lookout.

Podcast Title: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update
Episode Title: Classic: Incriminating News At 11
In this engaging episode of Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update, hosts Brooke and Jeffrey delve into a captivating listener story that intertwines the challenges of modern dating with unexpected media involvement. The episode, titled "Classic: Incriminating News At 11," unfolds the tale of Richard, a listener seeking insights into why his promising second date with Hannah went silent after what seemed like a successful evening.
The episode kicks off with Brooke and Jeffrey introducing Richard's unique approach to overcoming the fear of approaching someone he's interested in. Richard and his friend employ a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) to decide who will initiate the conversation when they spot an attractive woman in public. Brooke humorously remarks, "This is, like, what I do," highlighting the relatable anxiety many face in the dating scene (03:00 ).
Notable Quote:
Richard shares his experience of losing the RPS game, which compelled him to approach Hannah. He describes how a simple "Hey, how are you? It's gorgeous out," led to a smooth conversation and eventually a delightful dinner date at a nice downtown restaurant. The hosts commend his straightforwardness, with Brooke noting, "That's a nice compliment to get" after Richard details the two-hour engaging dinner (05:23; 05:44).
As Richard recounts the evening, he reveals an unexpected twist: a local TV crew approached them while they were leaving the restaurant. The reporter was ostensibly covering a story on crime in downtown but quickly veered into interviewing Richard about his encounter with a suspected purse snatcher. Richard explains, "He yanked me into the frame," attempting to maintain a light-hearted demeanor despite the awkwardness (05:41; 06:38).
Notable Quote:
Following the interview, Richard expresses confusion and disappointment that Hannah has not reached out since their date. Despite the seemingly positive interactions, the communication halted, leaving Richard puzzled. Brooke empathizes, stating, "Everything sounds so good. It's a mystery history," highlighting the perplexing situation (07:52; 07:57).
Determined to uncover the reasons behind the silence, Brooke and Jeffrey reach out to Hannah directly. The podcast transitions into a live phone interview, bringing Hannah into the conversation to provide her side of the story.
Notable Quote:
Hannah reveals that while the initial date and dinner were enjoyable, the TV interview left her uneasy. She felt that Richard prematurely labeled her as his girlfriend during the interview, especially since they had only known each other for a short time. Hannah mentions, "This was our first date, and I... we've only known each other for, like, three hours. Are you kidding me right now?" expressing her discomfort with the situation (12:25; 13:05).
Notable Quote:
The conversation between Richard and Hannah uncovers significant miscommunications. While Richard enjoyed the attention and felt proud of their local TV moment, Hannah perceived it as hasty and overstepping, especially with the context of the purse snatcher story. Hannah challenges Richard's credibility, pointing out inconsistencies in his account of the incident: "We saw a guy. We saw lots of guys. That doesn't mean that he's the purse snatcher," she clarifies (15:34; 16:19).
Notable Quote:
In an attempt to resolve the awkwardness and possibly reignite their connection, Brooke and Jeffrey facilitate another game of Rock, Paper, Scissors between Richard and Hannah live on the show. The playful challenge aims to decide if a second date is still on the horizon. Richard triumphs with "Paper covers rock," but the hosts reflect on the outcome humorously, acknowledging that while it was entertaining, it also underscores the complexities of their interaction (17:30; 18:07).
The episode wraps up with Brooke and Jeffrey highlighting the unpredictable nature of dating and the added complications that external factors, like media involvement, can introduce. They emphasize the importance of clear communication and mutual understanding in budding relationships. The hosts leave listeners contemplating the fine line between charming spontaneity and overzealous actions in the quest for love.
Final Notable Quote:
Innovative Approaches to Dating: Richard's use of Rock, Paper, Scissors exemplifies unconventional methods people use to navigate dating anxieties.
Unintended Consequences of Publicity: The involvement of a local TV crew introduced complexities that ultimately impacted Richard and Hannah's budding relationship.
Importance of Communication: Misunderstandings between Richard and Hannah highlight how vital clear and honest communication is in forming lasting connections.
Humor and Empathy in Podcasting: Brooke and Jeffrey adeptly balance humor with empathetic insights, making the episode both entertaining and relatable.
This episode serves as a compelling exploration of modern dating dynamics, the unpredictable influence of media, and the essential role of communication in fostering meaningful relationships. Whether you're navigating the dating scene or simply enjoy a well-told story, "Classic: Incriminating News At 11" offers valuable lessons wrapped in engaging conversation.
