And we're all keeping in mind why we celebrate this day as well.
Jeffrey
That's right. And right now, just a little laughter with a second date update.
Jose
Second date update. With dating, people always like to talk about passion and soulmates finding true love.
Jeffrey
That'd be great.
Jose
But sometimes you don't date for love. You date for food. Oh, seriously? Is there anything more romantic in this world that can bond two people together than a good burrito bowl with a kale smoothie?
Jeffrey
Especially when you're not paying. You kind of lost me at kale smoothie.
Jose
I dare you to come up with something hotter than kale smoothies and burrito bowls.
Jeffrey
I mean, very fibrous.
Jose
Apparently, that's what happened with one of our listeners the other day. Amanda claims that she bonded with a guy over some delivery food. So, Amanda, welcome to the show.
Manda
Hi. Thank you. It's actually just Manda.
Jeffrey
Oh, just.
Jose
Oh, the first A is silent.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God. That must be really annoying. Your entire life.
Manda
It's okay. It's always, like, conversation starters.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's a good point.
Jose
All right, I apologize, Manda, for that atrocious butchering of your name. But tell us about the guy that you went out with. What's his name?
Manda
His name is Richie.
Jeffrey
Not itchy.
Jose
Yeah, you pronounce that first. R. Yeah.
Brooke
Hi.
Jeffrey
Okay. She doesn't find it funny. Okay, that's fine. I'm sure you've heard it your whole life. I get it.
Manda
I get what you guys are doing. That's funny.
Jose
Okay. Yeah, we like to have a little bit of fun before we get into the details of the date, but shout it out.
Brooke
Rook.
Jose
You met with Richie over delivery food? How did that happen?
Manda
Yeah, so I live in a really big apartment complex, and when you order food on one of the food apps, you go pick it up downstairs, and then the area usually is like a little bit of a hangout. Kind of becomes like a social gathering.
Jeffrey
Oh, that makes sense.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Yeah, because people are waiting for their food. Or.
Brooke
Or that's just how you get into the building a lot of times.
Jose
I Feel like it'd be a bunch of really hangry people down there.
Jeffrey
Sure.
Jose
All waiting for food, all bitter.
Brooke
Who's that delivery for?
Jeffrey
Glaring at each other.
Jose
That's okay. You met him there.
Manda
Yeah. So when I was waiting for my food, he was there, and we just kind of started having some small talk. He asked what I ordered, and then he was bragging that he got the best tacos, and then he ended up getting Taco Bell, so I thought that was really funny.
Jeffrey
It was Taco Bell.
Jose
Okay.
Jeffrey
Was it a joke when he was saying it, or was he being legit?
Manda
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Good sense of humor.
Manda
What do you mean?
Jose
Taco Bell's delicious.
Jeffrey
I love it.
Jose
I don't see the joke in that.
Jeffrey
It just doesn't ever make sense to me when people get Taco Bell delivery because you are literally paying three times what it would cost in the restaurant. That is like, the whole point of Taco Bell is also that it's cheap.
Brooke
Yeah.
Manda
Usually the state I'm in eating it.
Jeffrey
I can't get to Taco Bell. Okay, that's not the point. That's not your point. Was this guy sober?
Manda
Yeah, he was sober, I think.
Jose
Okay.
Brooke
Taco Bell is delicious in all states.
Jose
All right. What happened after that, after you met?
Manda
Well, we ran into each other a couple of other times. You know, got to know each other a little bit, and eventually he was like, instead of just meeting in the lobby, we should go get food.
Jeffrey
Oh, cute. So he asked you out?
Manda
He did ask me out.
Jeffrey
Did he take you to his favorite taco place?
Brooke
That would have been a good move.
Manda
Yeah, no, we just went to kind of like, an American cuisine kind of spot. That was pretty close.
Brooke
Fancy way of saying diner.
Jeffrey
Yeah, American cuisine. It was a burger restaurant.
Jose
And how did that go?
Manda
It was great. We hung out. You know, I really liked him. We really got to know each other. It was lovely, I thought.
Jose
Okay, what'd you guys talk about?
Manda
Like, work, family? He has a cat named Joe.
Jeffrey
Oh, cute.
Brooke
Brooke and I love cats with human names.
Jeffrey
Seriously, dude.
Jose
And the food was good? It sounds like it all sounds normal. Were there any issues that came up during the date?
Manda
No issues that I can really think of. I mean, we were talking a lot, so at one point, the waiter came and cleared our table, like, before we were done, which is a big pet peeve of mine.
Jeffrey
So you threw a fork at him?
Manda
Yeah, No, I just kind of politely asked him that he didn't need to take our main plates because we were still eating, you know?
Jeffrey
Okay.
Jose
Okay.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Jose
How did it end?
Manda
The bill came, he paid. I offered to Venmo him. He turned it down.
Jeffrey
Oh, good offer. I feel like you should always offer.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Even if you don't mean it electrically.
Richie
It's just curse.
Jeffrey
I do fake offer, but I'm never gonna Venmo. Okay, cool.
Brooke
And then the guy says.
Manda
Yeah.
Brooke
She's like, oh, my app's not working down for everyone.
Jose
Okay. So he covered the whole bill?
Manda
Yeah, he covered the whole bill.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Manda
I thought things were going really well, and I thought he was going to kiss me, but instead he just hugged me.
Jeffrey
Oh. I mean, maybe he got scared.
Brooke
Yeah, it is. The first kiss is so, like, tough and scary and.
Jeffrey
Did you feel like you guys had chemistry?
Manda
Yeah. I mean, I really liked him. I don't know. Maybe he just didn't like me as much as I liked him.
Jeffrey
Oh, that is a rational thing to say, my friend.
Jose
Taking all the romance right out of this story. Okay.
Brooke
Very responsible and mature thought process.
Jeffrey
It was. It's hard to admit that sometimes.
Jose
So it's kind of weird, though, because you live in the same building. You haven't seen him again since that happened, or have you run into him down at the delivery food hangout?
Manda
No, I haven't.
Jose
Huh.
Manda
It's a pretty big building, so it's not necessarily gonna run into someone all the time. But I had seen him there pretty frequently before we had hung out, and now I haven't seen him at all.
Jeffrey
And he didn't mention, like, going out of town or any.
Manda
No.
Brooke
Or the day was so bad he moved.
Jose
Yeah.
Brooke
He's like, you know what? I'm breaking the lease. I'm outta here.
Jose
Let's hope not. But we're gonna play a song, and then we're gonna do the very practical thing and ask Rich for you if there is a legitimate reason why he's not calling you back.
Manda
Okay, sounds good. But also, his name is Richie, not Rich.
Jose
Oh, God. Did I really screw up both names in one segment? Your guest.
Jeffrey
Yeah, just.
Jose
It's a skill par for the course for me here. Second date update. I'm gonna quote Manda. Not Amanda, but Manda without that first day, because she's our second dater today. She said, quote, I really liked him, but, like, maybe he didn't like me as much as I liked him.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jose
And even though she said like four times in a single sentence, Professor Brook Fox still gave her a gold star for being practical and having a well thought out explanation for her ghost.
Jeffrey
Some emotional intelligence right there.
Jose
That she displayed Brooke. Any other clinical, pragmatic commentary you'd like to have us document on the podcast for posterity reasons?
Jeffrey
No, but I am taking notes for later, so my clipboard next to me and we can review at a later time.
Jose
Sounds fun for everybody. All right.
Manda
Why'd you even give her that opportunity to say that?
Jose
Regret it.
Manda
Yeah.
Jose
So, Manda, how are you feeling? Before we call Richie for you here, you doing okay?
Manda
Yeah, I'm a little nervous, but I'm interested to hear what he has to say.
Jeffrey
Yeah. And have you been, like, nervous to run into him? Because, you know, like, when so much time has passed, then it gets awkward and then.
Manda
Yeah, of course. You know, I've kind of been rehearsing what to say if I run into him.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah, we all do that in our minds, right?
Brooke
Yeah, right.
Jose
And she totally hasn't been camping out down at the bottom of the elevator, just, like, accidentally waiting to put, like, a key into the mailbox hole. Just, like, oops. What are you doing here? That's funny.
Manda
I haven't done anything, like, good.
Jose
Okay, that's very practical of you. Let's just call Richie, though, and see what he has to say. Here we go.
Jeffrey
Oh, you got the name right.
Brooke
Hey, look at you, Jeff. You remembered something. Oh, wait, you wrote it down?
Jose
Well, yeah, I practiced it seven times before we got back on. So here we go. See what Richie has to say.
Richie
Hello.
Jose
Hello. Is this Richie?
Richie
This is he. Who's this?
Jose
This is Jeffrey. With a Y at the end?
Jeffrey
Well, you would start with a J. I mean, those are. You would always spell it with a Y. Some people spell it with a G. I don't know.
Jose
Some people get confused on these things. Words. Words and names, we found, are very difficult today.
Brooke
So there's also two E's. There's also two Fs.
Jeffrey
Hi, Richie.
Jose
Hello, Richie.
Richie
Hi. So you're.
Jose
You're Jeffrey from a morning radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey.
Richie
Oh, hey. So why are you guys calling me?
Jose
Very astute question there, Richie. We're calling because we're trying to dig a little bit into your dating life.
Richie
What are you talking about?
Jeffrey
Well, I think it's a good thing.
Brooke
Intrusively.
Jeffrey
Yeah, yeah.
Brooke
It was brought to us.
Jose
Yeah. I mean, just. I mean, a little bit intrusively, but in a nice way. Because one of our listeners named Manda went out with you recently and would like to go out with you again.
Richie
Huh? She'd like to go out with me again?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Richie
What gives you that idea?
Jeffrey
She told us.
Jose
Literally emailed the show saying, I would like to see Richie again.
Jeffrey
It was very direct.
Jose
We read between the lines on that one a little bit, but we figured out she wants another date.
Richie
I'm just, like, totally confused right now. I mean, I thought that we had a really good time, but I don't know, understand. Like, I didn't hear anything from her, so I, like, just thought she didn't like me, so I kind of moved on.
Jeffrey
Wait, what? I thought she said that she tried to get a hold of you. I thought. Did she tell us that or did she not tell us that?
Jose
I don't know if I asked that question. I was too busy trying to figure out her name.
Richie
Yeah, no, I. I don't know how she tried to contact me. Like, I never got a call from her or text or anything after the date.
Jeffrey
Wait, wow. Did you text or call her, though? Richie? I mean, maybe she's one of those girls that was just. Just doesn't want to be too forward.
Richie
No, I mean, usually a girl, at least. I mean, even though we live in the same building, she'll at least say, hey, I got home safe. It was nice tonight. You know, something just to let you know, she got in. I mean, do it. Nothing.
Jose
Or even like a thank you for dinner and paying for everything. That'd be a nice thing to say.
Manda
And ask if she got home safe.
Jeffrey
You guys, they live in the same building.
Manda
Why is that even Question?
Jose
She walked her to the door. Try a little harder.
Brooke
I broke both my legs. I've been stuck in the elevator for a week.
Jose
It happens.
Brooke
No, it does not happen.
Jeffrey
So, wait, so you liked her, she liked you, and neither of you have texted or called each other?
Richie
Guess not.
Brooke
Weird.
Jose
Okay, well, that seems.
Jeffrey
This seems easy.
Jose
It does seem easy, because you're in luck, Richie. Manda is actually on the other line right now wanting to tell you how much she likes you and wants to see you again. Manda.
Manda
Hey, Richie.
Richie
Harry. Wow, this is so strange to me right now. I'm totally taken aback.
Manda
Well, it's kind of interesting to hear your perspective on this, because I thought that you didn't like me.
Richie
I mean, that's sort of a relief and kind of funny, but we wasted a lot of time, I guess.
Manda
Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I guess I was expecting you to be, like, as good of a communicator as you talked about and, like, how that was important. And then I was kind of confused after.
Jose
I mean, it's just funny. Like, you guys seem like you're both interested in each other, so it's kind of cute. And you just didn't realize that it was going on. You were both too shy to say it, or stubborn, whatever it was.
Richie
From what she just said, she thinks I'm a pretty bad communicator.
Jeffrey
Seems like you both are. Well, yeah, like you both liked each other and neither one of you reached out.
Jose
That's not what you're saying, right, Amanda?
Manda
I mean, kind of.
Jose
Well, you didn't. You didn't communicate with him?
Manda
Well, I mean, I did. I was pretty clear that I was wanting to hear from him first, that I kind of liked the guy. Taking the initiative first. Yeah, I don't know. I guess I. I didn't expect so much from a cat person.
Jeffrey
What?
Brooke
What? A cat? Where did that come from?
Richie
So now I'm a liar and a bad person because I like cats, Right?
Brooke
Uh. Oh, do not insult the ca.
Manda
No, it just. Nevermind.
Jeffrey
I don't think you can take that one back.
Jose
Yeah, I thought when you were talking to us earlier, you said he had a cute cat named Joe.
Manda
Yeah, sure, but I'm just, you know, I'm sorry. I didn't think that. Richie, I didn't think you were going to be so sensitive, so I'm sorry to bring that up.
Jeffrey
He's so sensitive now.
Brooke
He's sensitive.
Richie
I guess being sensitive is better than being a total jerk to the waiter, so.
Manda
Oh, wait, what?
Jeffrey
What happened with the waiter?
Brooke
I don't want to make a pun, but the claws are coming out.
Jeffrey
I know, but she just said she has him nicely.
Manda
Yeah, what are you trying to say?
Richie
Okay, somebody tried to take your plate the other night. You said in like, a harsh tone, you know, I'm not done. Right? Like, that's as snarky as you can get.
Brooke
Oh, a little backhanded.
Manda
I feel like I was pretty polite. I wasn't done, so I just let the waiter know.
Brooke
But it was probably the tone.
Jose
Yeah. Are we. Are we forgetting that you guys both really liked each other two minutes ago?
Richie
I like her and all, but I'm just big on, like, manners and just etiquette. And there's a polite way to do things, and she just did not observe that.
Jose
Are you sure you're not just being defensive right now because she called you a pathetic, overly sensitive cat person?
Jeffrey
Hey, she didn't say pathetic.
Brooke
Yeah, but.
Jose
Okay, well, I'm just reading between the lines. We all know what she meant.
Brooke
No, you're adding words.
Jose
Yeah, the words were there. They were just unspoken.
Manda
So you're saying that I'm not polite because I offered to pay for half of the meal.
Richie
I mean, that's emasculating. You gotta know that, right? That's emasculating. Like I'm a dude on the first date. What kind of dude doesn't pay for the first date?
Jeffrey
What?
Jose
Well, I'm sorry. In Manda's defense, you did order Taco Bell, so maybe she just didn't think you had the budget for it.
Jeffrey
Amanda's defense, it's a polite thing to do.
Jose
Yeah, it says money bags, Brooke over there.
Jeffrey
It's nice to offer, you know, even if you don't do it, at least you know that you have someone who is more of a partner and not someone who just wants free stuff.
Jose
Is it rude? Like assuming that he can't afford it on his own?
Jeffrey
That's not what she was assuming at all.
Jose
This is going to come as a news flash, Brooke, but not everybody in the world agrees with you on everything.
Brooke
Oh, now it's going to hit.
Jeffrey
Why are you being rude all of a sudden now?
Jose
Are we fighting with each other?
Brooke
I like you.
Jose
Before this call started happen.
Jeffrey
What's going on, Cat guy? Is that what this is? Do you. And I don't even know it.
Jose
How dare you disrespect cat. There's nothing wrong with having cats, Brooke.
Brooke
Well, here's where the show is.
Manda
I feel like we should fight now.
Jose
You know what? Next time you offer to buy me lunch at work, I'm gonna offer to pay for half of it. How do you like that?
Manda
I would love that.
Jose
Oh, yeah, I'm sure you would. Hold on.
Manda
Everyone stop.
Jose
Everyone stop.
Manda
Hold on.
Jose
Maybe if you got the meal order right one time instead of getting me a burrito bowl. I don't like tortillas around my burritos. Brooke, if you listen to me once in a while.
Jeffrey
You didn't need the car, Jeff. Okay. Richie.
Brooke
And. And Amanda, are you still on the phone?
Jose
Come on, Richie. Amanda, we doing this or not? We send you on a second date, we're going to pay for it. And Brook's gonna offer to pay for half.
Jeffrey
Yeah, Whether you like it or not. Richie.
Manda
What?
Jeffrey
You're agreeing?
Jose
Look.
Richie
Yeah. No.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
That's a no. Okay, well, that didn't end like I thought it was going to.
Jose
You go out of your way to try and help your listeners one time, and this is how you get treated? Blown off when you offer to pay.
Brooke
For their dates you kind of yelled at?
Jeffrey
I think it's emasculating. Yeah, and I'm Used to it.
Brooke
All right, well, sorry. Manda and Richie.
Manda
Yeah, that kind of got out of hand there, you know?
Jeffrey
Okay, yeah, that's enough from you.
Jose
That's offensive to people that don't have hands.
Brooke
Now you're just.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jose
All right, We've calmed down a little bit. And you. Sometimes, I'll be honest, I wonder why our listeners keep asking for our help when the calls turn out like this. Honestly, they keep on asking us to help them. You know what's going to happen.
Jeffrey
Even therapists have their own issues, right? They have to work through.
Jose
Usually not in front of the clients.
Jeffrey
But you get paid as a therapist. We don't.
Jose
Some of us on this show get paid more than others, and it's a little bit unfair.
Jeffrey
But trying to fix the gender pay gap. All right, that whole thing, we'll admit.
Jose
It got out of hand, but I do want everybody to know once we got off the air, I graciously offered to give both of them restaurant gift cards, even if they didn't want to go out with each other just for the trouble. Brooke, what did you offer them?
Brooke
You guys, like, scared them away.
Jeffrey
I offered them that first.
Jose
Oh, did you really? Anyway, I don't know why you'd want to, but if you ever want us to help you with your love life, you can always email the show and.
Brooke
Maybe to fight each other, you know.
Jeffrey
Maybe you'll end up helping us out in the end.
Brooke
Yeah, there you go.
Jose
Actually, maybe we should call another show to help with Ari shoes.
Jeffrey
That's good.
Jose
That's a good idea. Anyway, you can always find the second aid updates on our Brooke and Jeffrey YouTube. Go check it out. Subscribe. That's it.
Jeffrey
That's the end.
Jose
That's the end.
Richie

Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – Episode Summary: "The Blame Game"
Release Date: May 26, 2025
Hosts: Brooke and Jeffrey
Podcast Series: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update by iHeartPodcasts
In the "Classic: The Blame Game" episode of Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update, hosts Brooke and Jeffrey delve into the intricate world of dating, focusing on the aftermath of a seemingly successful second date that leads to unexpected silence. This episode highlights the challenges of post-date communication and explores the reasons behind why one party might ghost the other, providing both entertainment and insightful commentary for listeners navigating the dating scene.
The episode centers around a listener named Manda, who shares her experience of a second date that didn't go as planned. Manda met Richie through an unconventional yet relatable scenario:
Meeting Over Delivery Food: Manda recounts, “[03:22] Jose: ...you can come up with something hotter than kale smoothies and burrito bowls.” Manda describes how she and Richie first connected while waiting for their delivery orders in her apartment complex’s lobby area, a common social hub for residents.
The First Date: Intrigued by their initial conversation about food preferences, Richie asked Manda out for a meal. “[05:43] Jose: ...We just went to kind of like, an American cuisine kind of spot.” They chose a local burger restaurant where they enjoyed each other’s company, discussing topics like work and family. Manda found Richie’s cat named Joe endearing, adding a personal touch to their interactions.
The Unexpected Turn: Despite a positive connection during the meal, Manda notes a puzzling end to the evening: “[07:08] Manda: I thought things were going really well, and I thought he was going to kiss me, but instead he just hugged me.” This led to Richie not reaching out post-date, leaving Manda confused and seeking closure.
Brooke and Jeffrey engage in a thoughtful discussion about the importance of communication in budding relationships:
Manda’s Perspective: Manda provides a rational take, stating, “[09:20] Manda: I really liked him. I don’t know. Maybe he just didn’t like me as much as I liked him.” The hosts commend her practical outlook, emphasizing emotional intelligence in recognizing and accepting differing levels of interest.
The Communication Gap: The conversation shifts to the central issue—why Richie failed to follow up. Jeffrey observes, “[13:08] Jose: So you liked her, she liked you, and neither of you have texted or called each other?” This lack of communication is identified as the crux of the problem, highlighting common pitfalls in modern dating where assumptions often replace direct dialogue.
Seeking to resolve the mystery behind Richie's silence, Brooke and Jeffrey decide to reach out directly:
Connecting with Richie: At [10:58], the hosts successfully connect with Richie. They introduce themselves and explain the purpose of their call, aiming to gain his perspective on the situation.
Richie’s Confusion: Richie expresses his bewilderment: “[12:19] Richie: I thought that we had a really good time, but I don’t know, I didn't hear anything from her, so I, like, just thought she didn't like me, so I kind of moved on.”
Emerging Tensions: As Manda and Richie converse through the hosts, underlying frustrations surface. Manda feels let down by Richie’s lack of communication, while Richie criticizes Manda’s approach to splitting the bill and perceives her as insensitive. Notable exchanges include:
Manda: “[14:03] Richie: I didn’t think you were going to be so sensitive, so I’m sorry to bring that up.”
Richie: “[16:38] Richie: I mean, that's emasculating. You gotta know that, right? That's emasculating.”
Humorous Yet Tense Moments: The mediation becomes increasingly chaotic as Brooke and Jose interject with humor, attempting to lighten the mood. However, the conversation ultimately deteriorates, highlighting the complexities and sometimes unresolvable nature of miscommunication in relationships.
Brooke and Jeffrey wrap up the episode by reflecting on the difficulties of their "Second Date Update" approach:
Lessons Learned: Jeffrey muses, “[19:18] Jose: It got out of hand, but I do want everybody to know once we got off the air, I graciously offered to give both of them restaurant gift cards...” This humorous yet sincere gesture underscores their commitment to helping listeners, despite the unpredictable outcomes.
