What's up, y'? All? Summer's got a different tempo. Everything's a little looser, brighter. One plan turns into another. You hear something, you stay a little longer. Next thing you know, you're somewhere you didn't plan to be. It's those in between moments. That's where the ideas hit. Conversations stretch out. Little memories sneak up on you. Sometimes it's just about what's in your hand. That color, that chill. The new tropical butterfly refresher from Starbucks. Guava and passion fruit flavors with mango pineapple flavored pearls. Yeah, that feels like summer before you even taste it. Funny how one small stop becomes the best part of the day. Start your summer rhythm with Starbucks. We're scratching that itch for you today with back to back classics. Hey, it's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. You don't like the idea of scratching?
Alexis
Yeah, I don't know. I literally. I started thinking out of my head and I was like, ooh, scratching someone else's back.
Jeff
Yeah.
Alexis
Actually gives me the chills.
Jeffrey
I saw Alexis's face turn sour.
Alexis
Just thinking of like, their skin on your nail.
Jeffrey
Little rash.
Alexis
You're taking care of that. No, no, I don't like this.
Jeffrey
Okay, let's get to your comments then before we get to these classics.
Narrator
Yeah.
Alexis
Iron woman said, I recently found your Guinness to win it videos of Jose attempting Guinness world records from summer 2022.
Jeff
Yes.
Alexis
You guys should repost these now that you have a bigger following. They'd go viral. They were hilarious.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God. That is a really good point. We've done so much we weird things on this show.
Aaron
Yeah.
Alexis
If you're bored this weekend, go stalk our old YouTube videos that you should do.
Jeffrey
You can do a very deep dive. It's @brookeandjeffrey on YouTube. And we also have been putting up live videos of our second dates and our offered Tuesdays. We're doing one a week right now. They get released on Tuesdays. So follow comment and let us know what you think in your back to back classics. Start right now.
Jeff
I can't speak for the ladies, but I know the goal of every man on the dating apps.
Aaron
Yeah.
Jeff
Is to find that golden pickup line.
Jeffrey
That's the goal.
Jeff
That message that's too irresistible not to respond to. For years, people claimed it didn't exist.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Jeff
They said it was a myth. Like Bigfoot or a Ziploc bag that reseals on the first try.
Brooke
Wow, that's nonexistent.
Jeffrey
Is that what you guys are talking about in your man circles?
Jeff
All the time? But one of our listeners claims he found it.
Commercial Voice
Wow.
Jeff
The golden pickup line. And I wonder if Brooke or Alexis would be able to not respond if they ever found this message in their DMs that will melt into this.
Alexis
I reply to. Hey,
Jeff
we're going to find. Hey, you're going to hear it in your second date update right after this.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning second date update.
Jeff
It's always interesting to me that we have just as many guys listen to our show as we do ladies.
Jeffrey
Actually, on our podcast, we have more male listeners.
Aaron
Yeah.
Jeff
And if that's because women are forcing their spouses to listen at the threat of withholding love, then you know what? So be it.
Jeffrey
Oh, not just that we're entertaining.
Jeff
That can't be it.
Jeffrey
Have you heard of Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
Jeff
We all know by now ladies don't have to approach anyone on the dating app.
Brooke
Apps.
Jeff
They're pretty much flooded with messages 24 7. So the big question that we always ask here is how does a guy cut through all the clutter and get himself noticed?
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Guy to girl ratio on a dating
Jeff
app is not good.
Narrator
Yeah.
Jeff
And our listener, Connor, says he's figured out a great conversation opener that nobody else was using and says it has an extremely high success rate.
Jeffrey
Oh, interesting.
Jeff
Connor, are you sure you want to give away your secrets to the world right here on the show?
Connor
Honestly, no. But your producer's kind of telling me I have to do that if I want to be here.
Jeffrey
Our producer can be kind of scary.
Brooke
We get it.
Jeff
So he makes me do a lot of stuff I don't want to do either, Connor. So I completely understand now. Time to wipe away those tears. Give it up. What's your secret?
Connor
So I don't send any words at all?
Brooke
Yeah, any words.
Jeff
I'm with you. Women hate words. Words. Huge turn off. Am I right, Alexis?
Nikki
Oh, yeah.
Jeff
Especially men.
Jeffrey
All the way.
Brooke
Yes. Like punctuation marks.
Connor
It's emojis, dude. You send emojis because it leads to a response.
Commercial Voice
Oh.
Brooke
Eventually she'll be like, why are you.
Jeffrey
Only because you're, like, trying to decode what you're attempting to say. Are there specific emojis that you use?
Connor
Oh, yeah, yeah, there's a specific group of emojis.
Jeff
Okay, okay.
Corey
Yeah.
Connor
Man emoji, woman emoji, Sushi emoji. Dance, emoji, music, emoji, gift box, emoji, equal sign, question mark, emoji.
Jeffrey
What was the last one before question mark?
Brooke
Equal sign.
Jeffrey
Oh, and then question mark.
Jeff
Women love math equations, right, Alexis? Like an algebra problem.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Alexis
You could take that out.
Brooke
Equal sign.
Jeffrey
I'm sorry, from those emojis. That is a fancy first date that you just planned.
Jeff
Yeah.
Brooke
Great for, say, sushi and dancing.
Jeff
Yeah, yeah, for people who aren't emoji literate. Can you, like, translate what exactly you're saying in it?
Connor
Okay, so it translates to a guy and a girl, we get sushi, we dance, and also there's a little something special. What do you think? Yeah.
Jeff
Okay.
Brooke
Even if it's a tiny gift, the fact that you have a gift box looks really cool. The big gold box on the emoji.
Jeffrey
Unless it's like that old SNL song about what's in the box.
Alexis
I prefer an ice cream emoji over a gift, but, yeah, that's just me.
Connor
No, but it always elicits the response. Either people send back, like, emojis of their own, like, they get it.
Brooke
Yeah.
Connor
Or they're like, sorry, what was that? And at least I've got somebody talking to me, even if they didn't get it.
Aaron
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
Well, and then she asked for clarification. Then you can formally ask her out.
Jeffrey
So you do this to hundreds of women and one you actually went on a date with?
Connor
Yes. I did this to Nikki. I was able to get her number, and we met up and we did that date.
Jeffrey
Oh, you did do the date.
Aaron
Okay.
Jeff
And you said her name is Nikki. That's the woman that we're gonna be calling her. How did your date go?
Connor
It was great. We did exactly what I said we were gonna do. We did sushi, we went dancing, and then I took her out, paid for drinks afterwards.
Jeffrey
Oh, wait, where was the present? You put a present box? I mean, there's.
Connor
The present is like, I'm going to let you in on my secret spot.
Brooke
Oh, is it like one of those fun bars with really cool drinks?
Jeffrey
Like, did she like that present?
Connor
She liked it. She thought it was cool.
Brooke
Okay, the vibes were up.
Jeff
How was the connection between you two?
Connor
Look, I thought it was great. There was no, like, moment where it felt like a kiss was right, but I felt like we were vibing the whole time. Okay, I obviously listen to these sometimes because you're always like, okay, what'd you mess up? And I will tell you right now, the awkward thing came from her and not from Me, I'm still want to go on a second date, but there was a point point where she called me Martin.
Jeffrey
Martin.
Brooke
Oh, no, wait.
Jeffrey
What's your name?
Brooke
I already forgot your name.
Jeff
Yeah, Brooke has forgotten your name.
Connor
You're gonna have to remind us not just be forgot. Dude, Martin is her ex.
Jeffrey
Oh, God, I bet she felt so bad.
Connor
Yeah, she said she did. We had fun with it. I made. I cracked a joke or two about it. I thought it was all good, but now it's been like a week and a half and I haven't heard anything.
Jeff
Yes, it's awkward to be called by the ex's name, but it's also kind of a good sign that she's seeing you in a romantic. And it's unlocking that door to, like, old romantic flings.
Alexis
A stretch.
Jeff
I have to stretch.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
I mean, do you think that she's not over her ex?
Connor
I mean, that's my first thought for sure. But I hope that that's not the case because we had a good time. Yeah, I would like to see her again. And also, like, if you're not over your ex, fine. But you're going to ghost me for that?
Jeffrey
Well, I mean, maybe she thinks it's. It's kind, right? Like, maybe she thinks, like, I should leave this guy alone.
Connor
Never the kindest option.
Jeffrey
I mean, I agree. I. I don't disagree with that. But what happened at the very end of the night?
Connor
I was like, hey, this has been so much fun. I hope to see you again. We gave each other a hug.
Jeff
And how many times have you called her? How many times have you texted her?
Connor
Well, obviously I hit her with some emojis.
Jeff
Okay.
Brooke
Yeah.
Connor
And then I left one voicemail. I'm trying to not be, like, weird about it now.
Jeffrey
Did you leave the voicemail saying your real name? Because maybe she doesn't remember it. Maybe you should have called yourself Martin.
Connor
Well, that is rough if that's true.
Brooke
Don't do that.
Jeff
Voicemails are a little bit. Especially if you hear the loser line segment on our show. It's always a risk to leave one.
Jeffrey
No, I think voicemails are fine if they're short and they end quickly. Yeah, that's the same thing I just said twice, but you know what I mean.
Jeff
Just like your love making short ended quickly.
Commercial Voice
Get in, get out, get more.
Jeff
There you go. So we're gonna reach out to Nikki. Hopefully she answers and we'll find out. Is it really just because she called you her ex's name on the date, or is something Else happening. When we come back for your second date update.
Connor
Thanks, guys.
Jeffrey
Right after this, Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
Second date update was a warm summer afternoon and our listener Connor conned a gal into a date with a flick of the finger and a string of mysterious emojis. Man emoji, woman emoji, sushi emoji, dance emoji, music emoji, gift box emoji equals question mark emoji emoji.
Jeffrey
Oh, so mysterious, Jeff.
Brooke
No one can crack the code, Jeff.
Jeff
That's where we're at now. I've conferred with my co host, Jose, Sherlock homeboy and Brooke. What's up, Watson? They told me we don't know enough about this date.
Brooke
We need some more investigating.
Jeffrey
You see, I think we know quite a bit though.
Brooke
Like, Brooke, you gotta do the voice.
Jeffrey
Oh, I think we know quite a bit.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
Not quite enough though. Our only lead is that Nikki called Connor by her ex, ex lover's name. Some nobody named Martin. But that's all we know. We don't even know what they spoke about. Any childhood memories? Did they play the game pasta or rasta?
Jeffrey
What is that game?
Brooke
Oh, man, you haven't played pasta or rasta?
Corey
No.
Jeff
You haven't lived on a first date night?
Jeffrey
I haven't even lived, apparently.
Brooke
Oh, gotta throw some reggae on and play later.
Jeff
Connor, can you tell us what was the gab about that night? What did you speak about?
Connor
Oh, man, I feel like it was pretty basic first date stuff. Like stuff that happened to us when we were kids. I was like, oh, I have this scar on my arm. Honestly, now that we're talking about, I'm like, am I basic?
Jeffrey
Am I basic? It's okay.
Jeff
It's kind of good. There wasn't a big crazy moment.
Jeffrey
I don't know. You're a man that's willing to take a woman dancing and that is not basic. Many men are scared of dancing.
Connor
I'll take that. But our conversation maybe wasn't as like, I don't know, it wasn't like we looked up at the stars and contemplated our existence together.
Jeffrey
Yeah, but you communicated with those dance moves, I bet.
Brooke
Yeah, those hips don't lie, brothers.
Jeffrey
That's right.
Jeff
No pasta or rasta. So kind of fell short. But let's reach out to Nikki here. We'll see if she picks up and hopefully she has some answers for her if she doesn't.
Jeffrey
Let's play the game because I'm really curious how this game works.
Jeff
It's not appropriate for radio.
Brooke
Yeah, bro, it's like Spin the bottom.
Jeffrey
I was gonna guess Penny.
Jeff
Okay, I already don't know what you're talking about. Oh, you would want that pen anyway.
Brooke
Yeah, I know, right?
Jeff
Jeff, here, let's just call Nikki here, hopefully get out of this awkwardness. Here we go.
Aaron
Hello?
Jeff
Hey, is this Nikki?
Nikki
Yeah, this is Nikki.
Aaron
Who's this?
Jeff
Hey, Nikki, you're on a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Jeffrey
What's up, Nikki?
Brooke
Hey, what up, Nikki? Good morning.
Nikki
Why are you calling me?
Jeff
Sorry to interrupt you. I'm not sure if you're busy or something, but we're doing a segment on our show. It's called the Second Date Update.
Nikki
I'm so sorry, I gotta go.
Jeffrey
Just honestly, it'll take less than three minutes.
Jeff
Lucky for you, we're not doing our big segment. Pasta or rasta?
Brooke
Yeah, super.
Jeff
Highly rated.
Brooke
Yeah, this is quick.
Jeffrey
I'm actually kind of excited.
Connor
Okay.
Jeff
Yeah. The Second Date Update is where one of our listeners has asked us to help get some answers for why you're not responding to his emoji texts and your voicemail messages.
Connor
Oh, God.
Nikki
Oh, my God. Why would he do that?
Jeffrey
Okay, talking about immediately when we say emoji.
Jeff
Yeah, Connor.
Nikki
Yeah, I know about the emojis, but, like, why would he call a radio station and, like, get you guys involved? Like, I. I'm confused.
Brooke
He wants to hear back from you.
Jeff
Yeah, because he told us the story about your date and said he's reached out a few times hoping to get a second one that has not happened and he's not sure why.
Nikki
I don't know what he told you guys, but I had a little bit of an embarrassing moment on the date.
Jeff
Yeah, we heard about the. The moment where you called him by your ex boyfriend's name, Martin.
Jeffrey
It's fine. It sounds like he didn't even, like, care that much, but, I mean, there
Jeff
could have been more moments on the date that might have turned you off. Like, we just don't know. And Connor wants some honesty and clarification on the situation. That's why we're calling.
Nikki
Yeah, I mean, actually, it was. It was just that. I mean, if I'm gonna be honest with you guys about something, it was. It was that moment.
Jeffrey
Yeah, but it sounds like you guys joked about it after you called him the wrong name. He, like, made light of it and.
Nikki
Yeah, no, I mean, I tried to laugh it off, but tell you guys the truth, Martin is not my ex's name.
Jeff
Wait, what? What?
Brooke
What?
Jeff
That's what you said.
Brooke
Who's Martin?
Nikki
Yeah, no, I know. I know, I had to make it up.
Jeffrey
Why? Who's Martin?
Nikki
Okay, so his eyebrows are the bushiest eyebrows I've ever seen.
Jeffrey
And so are you talking about Martin right now or are you talking about
Jeff
our listener, your date with?
Nikki
I'm talking about Connor. Like he has the same eyebrows as Martin Scorsese. He actually makes Martin's look thin. And I put him in my phone with that and I guess I got so used to seeing that name on my phone and seeing that.
Jeff
Yeah, so it was a roast.
Jeffrey
Wait, you saved him as like Martin Scorsese eyebrow boy or something in your phone?
Nikki
I said Martin eyebrows. Yeah, and in the pictures you couldn't really tell. Like you saw they were bushy, hence me putting him in my phone as Martin's eyebrows.
Brooke
But there was worse in person.
Nikki
I couldn't stop looking at them. It was like a bad accident that you can't stop looking at.
Jeff
Oh, okay.
Jeffrey
Can we stop?
Jeff
You're walking yourself into bad territory.
Brooke
Is it like one caterpillar?
Jeff
I don't think to get any more details on that. I don't want to hurt any more feelings, especially because Martin.
Jeffrey
No, no, Connor, Connor, he's.
Jeff
He's on the other line listening to this.
Jeffrey
Nikki, that hurts.
Jeff
Shut up, shut up. I have to talk because I'm on the radio. But yeah, he's there.
Nikki
Guys.
Connor
Sorry.
Aaron
Really?
Jeff
Connor, are you there?
Nikki
Oh man.
Connor
Yeah, I'm not really sure what to say.
Aaron
Oh, buddy.
Jeffrey
I bet you have great eyebrows, Martin. Or.
Connor
Yeah, they're great eyebrows. They're very full. Like people are into it.
Jeffrey
Big eyebrows are in.
Nikki
Yeah, but this is beyond the trend.
Brooke
But it's not a preference for every different people.
Connor
Okay, you don't have to be.
Nikki
That's why we date. That's why we date because everybody has different preferences and I'm sorry, Connor, you're a nice looking guy, but your brows are too much. Like they. I could not even focus enough to remember your real name versus the name I've been calling you in my phone.
Brooke
I'm not like Burt from How do
Jeffrey
you apologize for being mean and then double down on it?
Nikki
Is honesty mean? I mean, listen, I didn't call me and do this, okay? Connor knew what he was getting into. He ready, I guess, for the truth.
Jeff
And we do appreciate your honesty, Nikki. I mean, we really do.
Brooke
That's what we don't.
Jeff
I don't necessarily love what you're saying. Yeah, but you know, at least she's being truthful for the reason. I would think though that eyebrows are something that you could easily change.
Jeffrey
No, you don't want to change who you're dating. Them. Jazz.
Connor
Yeah, I mean, I'm happy with how I look.
Brooke
That's good, man.
Connor
I'm just baffled that it took coming to the radio to hear this.
Nikki
I was trying to be nice in this spot, and now, you know, ghosting is never nice.
Connor
That's not a kindness.
Jeff
Would it have felt nice if she said the reason I said is because you remind me you look like Martin Scorsese? Would that feel good?
Jeffrey
She could have just said, you know what? I'm so sorry. I just don't feel an attraction here. That's all she had.
Connor
That would have been fine. But also, if she said I look like Martin Scorsese, I would have been like, hell, yeah, I do.
Aaron
Tight.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Good for you. I love Connor.
Nikki
I mean, I'm sorry, guys, I gotta go to work.
Jeff
She feels bad, Okay?
Nikki
I just. I'm sorry, Connor. Like, bet the lock. If you need a brown person, I have someone really good. I'm more than happy to give her number to Connor. Really good. I'm not doubling down. I'm trying to help. I want Connor to find a nice woman and get the brows together.
Jeffrey
That is so insulting.
Jeff
A little bit. So, look, I normally would never do this, but in the spirit of truthfulness and honesty, Connor, I'm gonna call it open season. Is there anything you would like to critique about Nikki in return? Just to even the playing field? Up to you. Connor, don't.
Jeffrey
Hey, when she goes low, you go high. Connor.
Narrator
Yeah?
Alexis
What's.
Jeff
What's above the eyebrows that you can call.
Connor
No, I'm above it, man. You know what I mean? Like, I'm not sorry for the way that I look. I think she looks great. I would have been happy to go on a second date, but not the girl.
Jeff
Just great. Yikes.
Jeffrey
What a great guy. You are missing out, Nikki.
Connor
Yeah, so taste that.
Nikki
I didn't do anything wrong. I've now been embarrassed on the radio.
Jeff
Oh, you've been embarrassed?
Nikki
Really embarrassed. Guys, I can't deal with this. No, next date. I'm. I'm deleting every app for dating. I'm taking a break.
Brooke
People don't answer random calls.
Connor
Okay.
Jeff
It's good that she was able to make this entire thing about her. So, Nikki, well done.
Nikki
I don't appreciate that. Yeah, FYI, the next time you go ahead and send someone all these crazy emojis and there's a gift in there, why don't you just bring a gift and not be a cheap.
Alexis
Oh,
Jeffrey
I guess it wasn't just the eyebrows.
Nikki
Yeah, it was not just the eyebrows.
Jeff
All right, well we started with really not knowing much at the beginning of this what went wrong and now we know it was just a couple of eyebrows.
Jeffrey
Hey, what's up Watson? I did my job.
Jeff
We solved the mystery game. I knew we'd get to the bottom of it. Tune in next week when we unmask the the owner of the old Kabuki theater and find out who isn't dating the wrong person.
Brooke
Like zoinks. His eyebrows were like super hairy.
Jeff
I knew it Scoob.
Alexis

I got a lot of texts coming in to our text board at 78592. People are ripping that woman for what she said about Connor's eyebrows.
Jeffrey
It would have been forgiven because she didn't know he was on the phone until she just kept going.
Jeff
She just wouldn't stop.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Anytime you're like, I'm sorry, but it's not an apology. Yeah.
Jeff
And I know Connor didn't want to say anything bad about her. Her, but our listeners did not hold back.
Aaron
Yeah.
Nikki
Wow.
Jeff
They're blowing up our text board.
Brooke
Ruthless.
Jeff
One said, I've never even seen that woman, but I can tell she's got a gaping fish mouth. Another says, she sounds like she was. Oh, you know what? Actually, some of these are not radio friendly.
Brooke
Are not cool.
Jeff
Actually, I probably shouldn't. But you know what? It is nice to see our listeners coming together and sticking up for other listeners who listen to this show.
Jeffrey
I mean, yeah, but what about that? Like, when they go like low, we go high.
Jeff
No mob mentality. When they go low, we go lower.
Brooke
He went high. So we can all go up.
Jeff
There you go. But we will stick up for you and your love life. You can email the show, we'll call that person who's not calling you back and go check out all of our second date updates. If you want to find them online, they're available wherever you get your podcasts at. Brooke and Jeffrey.
Aaron
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
If someone messes up your coffee order, do you. Do you a, politely let them know that you're allergic to dairy and you need almond milk instead?
Aaron
Yeah. Yes.
Jeff
Or do you b drink it anyway? Cause suffering through your allergy is less painful than having a full blown confrontation.
Alexis
That definitely that.
Jeff
We all know what Alexis would do writhing on the ground in that coffee shop, clutching her stomach, telling the barista, thank you for your service.
Jeffrey
I love it. I loved it.
Jeff
Well, one of our listeners dealt with that on their coffee date the other day. Little order mix up happened and what went down next had the whole place awkwardly staring. And it's probably the reason he's not getting a call back. You'll hear it in your brand new second date update. Next.
Alexis
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning Second date update.
Jeff
Alexis, if you're on a dating app, what hobbies could somebody put on their profile that would make you go oh, damn, that's hot. I want to get to know them.
Alexis
Cooking's pretty nice. They can make me some meals.
Jeff
Yeah, cooking. Okay, what about, like, a professional puppy trainer? I didn't even think about that. Or what if he houses puppies inside of miniature windmills? So technically it's a puppy mill, but it's cute because he's raising them inside of the tiny mill.
Alexis
I'd swipe, but I would ask some follow up questions.
Jeff
Okay, that's smart, because I bring it up since ones of our listeners apparently met someone on the dating apps with an interesting hobby that piqued his interest. Okay, let's talk to Corey about it. Corey, welcome to the show.
Corey
Hey, how you doing?
Jeffrey
Was it an above board puppy mill like Jeff's talking about?
Jeff
That's a fair question.
Corey
No, no, but it was equally as interesting. No, she was a speed puzzler.
Jeffrey
A what?
Jeff
Speed puzzler.
Corey
Yeah, like a speed puzzler.
Brooke
I've heard of this.
Connor
Oh, my God.
Jeff
I actually saw an Instagram reel about
Jeffrey
this recently where people put jigsaw puzzles together as fast as they can.
Jeff
Yeah, it's like a big competition that they have where there's like eight tables of teams all in one room, and then they, like, dump all the pieces out at once. Whichever team solves it first wins.
Jeffrey
Okay, could I be the one person in the room that just sticks one piece in your pocket so your own team loses?
Jeff
Your team would lose.
Jeffrey
It would just be worth it, though.
Brooke
Brooke is half hooked the corner for that script.
Alexis
Everyone's like, see who turns on each other.
Jeff
Corey, did I describe that right? Is that what you were talking about?
Corey
Yeah, for sure. I mean, like, we were just messaging back and forth on a. On a dating act, and I was like, this is weird. And she told me all about it. Yeah, like three to four people get together and like a DJ plays. It's like a bingo hall, you know?
Jeffrey
Oh, really? Dude, that's pretty cool.
Aaron
And, like.
Corey
And it's like a thing. Yeah, they throw it all down. Everybody is on the clock, and you got to put it together. And you, like, pay money to, like, do this.
Jeffrey
Oh, it's a competition. So there's like a pot that you can win at the end. Is that how it works?
Corey
And then you split it with your team? Yeah.
Jeffrey
Oh, dang. So you probably weren't. I was gonna say, at first I thought this would be, like an easy, like, activity to be like, oh, we should do it together, but this is too competitive.
Jeff
Not the most romantic experience.
Jeffrey
Oh, she probably wouldn't let you do it right.
Corey
Right.
Jeff
So what. What did you do for a date? Did you end up going out with her?
Corey
Yeah, I mean, we just totally clicked. We just decided to do like a coffee date. You know, quick little 30 minute thing is what we were planning on doing.
Brooke
A quick little 30 minute. You start a timer, like, first question, how was it?
Jeffrey
It.
Corey
I thought it went fine. I was. It was all right. I mean, like, we met. We met.
Jeff
We should get her name too, because. Oh, yeah, that's an important piece of this puzzle.
Corey
Her name is Erin Aaron.
Jeff
Okay.
Jeffrey
It was interesting how you just said, I thought it was fun. It was all right. Like, your tone went down.
Corey
It started off well, but it got weird. Like, so we met up in line. I, like, asked what she wanted and like, I did the coffee order and like, she sat down and I mean, like, I sat down for a little bit. My name was Call. So I went up to go get our coffees and as I was like walking back to the table, I realized that on the coffee cup there was a different one named Devin and a phone number.
Jeff
Wait, what?
Jeffrey
I'm confused. You grabbed somebody else's coffee?
Corey
That's what I was thinking. And so, like, I went back to the coffee counter and I said, hey, like, yeah, I think I got the wrong coffee. It's a different name. And so the guy that was there said, nope, that's the right one.
Jeffrey
Oh, he was trying to give his number to her.
Alexis
He's Devin?
Corey
Yeah, I don't know. Like, I didn't ask that. So I went back to the table and I sat down and I was like, is somebody trying to ask you out? And in my head, I was like, trying to process it because I. I didn't. I didn't want to do nothing about
Jeffrey
it, you know, that's weird. Who would do that? On, like, some. You're obviously on a date. Like, you can tell when there's two people at a coffee shop who are on a first.
Jeff
How can you tell?
Jeffrey
I don't know. It's just like the awkwardness.
Brooke
You're looking for the awkward people because they don't get along.
Alexis
It's just like, you probably can't hear their small talk. Like, so how was your day?
Jeff
Okay, so you. You were giving off first date vibes with in line, and I guess another guy saw that and thought he could swoop in.
Corey
So, like, I went back to the counter and I was like, so who's. I said it, like, really loudly and I was like, who's Devin? Like, I'm On a date. Who did this?
Brooke
So hold on.
Jeffrey
Oh, wait, you're.
Jeff
You confronted the baristas in front of Aaron in front of the whole, like, coffee establishment.
Corey
And I admit, like, it got awkward. And so she ended up coming on over, and she was like, what are you doing? Calm down. And I, like, we went back to the table. Like, nobody answered me.
Jeffrey
Devin never came forward.
Corey
Devin never came forward.
Jeff
Devin was scared.
Corey
And so, like, yeah, it got awkward after that. I went back to the table. We hung out for, like, 20 minutes.
Jeffrey
20 more. Wait, that was only 10 minutes into the date that happened. Holy heck.
Corey
Yeah, so look, she's great. I made it awkward. I want to redo. We never even talked about puzzles.
Brooke
Yeah, let's just do the whole thing.
Jeffrey
It would just send up so many red flags that you're, like, a crazy jealous type. Even though. Even though it's an inappropriate move for Devin to make. Whoever the hell Devin is or could
Jeff
have been seen as, like, a chivalrous move. Standing up for your date.
Nikki
Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah. I mean, but it's not your place yet.
Jeff
Yeah, it's definitely how we should spin it when we call Aaron.
Brooke
There you go.
Jeff
He was standing up for you and standing up for the date.
Jeffrey
Maybe we should just spin it as, like, he's embarrassed. He wants a redo.
Corey
Yeah, that's kind of what I was hoping. I just want to apologize, and I just want to be like, can we just try it again?
Brooke
Yeah.
Narrator
Okay.
Jeff
So you. You haven't apologized yet?
Corey
No, no, no. Like, I have, but she hasn't texted back.
Jeff
Oh, Alexis, if you were on that date, would you give him another chance?
Alexis
I mean, for the case of this segment? Yeah, totally.
Brooke
Because stop another guy from hitting on me.
Alexis
Well, because I hope I'm going to get hit on a lot more times in public. So, like, I don't want that to happen every time, you know?
Jeff
Well, okay. I was hoping for a stronger answer from you.
Alexis
I said, yeah, probably.
Brooke
I said, for the segment, we'll hope
Jeff
for a. Yeah, probably when we call Aaron and try and get you a second date update right after this. All right, great.
Corey
Thanks.
Jeff
All right, man, hold on.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Alexis
Second date update.
Jeff
Nothing worse than getting hit with some FDSA first date swoop action where somebody else tries to hit on your date while you're currently with them. But that's what happened to one of our listeners, Corey, who took a woman named Aaron out to coffee. And while they were there, one of the baristas wrote their phone number onto Aaron's cup And then Corey had to deliver it to her. So just insult to injury right there. And in processing what to do, Corey thought the best move was to just go up and confront the barista in front of everybody.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God. So loudly and so awkwardly.
Jeff
Now he's not beginning to call back, which maybe means that wasn't the best move, man.
Brooke
But her name's not Devin.
Jeff
The good news is, just like the coffees that Alexis used to serve at her barista job, you can always ask for a redo.
Alexis
Okay.
Jeff
And that's what we're doing today.
Alexis
No, if something was wrong, that wasn't my fault.
Jeffrey
In them, it's never her fault.
Brooke
Must be broken.
Jeff
Well, it wasn't Cory's fault that happened on his date was.
Jeffrey
It was the confrontation that turned everything sour.
Jeff
I think Corey can be forgiven for being put into a rough spot.
Jeffrey
Oh, I don't. I. I think he knows he did bad.
Corey
Yeah, I definitely overacted.
Jeff
But we're just speculating. So we're going to find out once and for all when we call Aaron how she felt about it, because maybe she felt like it was a very heroic move.
Brooke
I feel like it's a big mystery to Jeff still.
Jeffrey
Like, I think we. I think he's just trying to defend our man.
Jeff
I am. I'm on Cory.
Jeffrey
He's always trying to defend our listeners.
Jeff
It's hard to do this job sometimes over here trying to be the. The hero, the white knight of the listeners on the phone.
Corey
Yeah, I. I appreciate you, Jeff.
Jeff
I appreciate you, Cory. We just need Aaron to appreciate you, too. So let's call her and force her to appreciate you.
Commercial Voice
Let's do it.
Connor
Here we go.
Aaron
Hello.
Jeff
Hey, we're looking for Aaron.
Aaron
This is she.
Jeff
Oh, Aaron, you made a big mistake.
Jeffrey
Oh, my gosh, Jeff, do not start like that. Hi, Aaron.
Jeff
I'm sorry. I'm a little miffed.
Jeffrey
No, you made the right choice is what she did. Yeah, but maybe we can.
Jeff
Well, Hello.
Jeffrey
Fix it.
Jeff
Yeah, I know.
Jeffrey
Who is this?
Jeff
This is a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Brooke
We're a whole show.
Nikki
Okay.
Brooke
A show. Like a fun.
Connor
Yeah,
Jeff
yeah. This. This is a segment that we do on our show that's called a Second Date Update, where we try to help our listeners meet up with somebody that they went out with recently for a second time.
Aaron
And you're calling me because I went on a date.
Brooke
Bingo.
Connor
Yeah.
Jeff
Yeah.
Jeffrey
And the guy was really interested in you.
Jeff
His name is Corey.
Aaron
Oh, yeah. Okay.
Brooke
Corey.
Jeffrey
Yeah. She's not going to forget. I love to hear her side of the story.
Jeff
Yeah. I wasn't loving your reaction to the name Corey there, but.
Jeffrey
Makes sense, though.
Jeff
We're just trying to. To help Corey figure out if something maybe went wrong on the date or.
Aaron
You want me to let you know.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Aaron
Happened or whatever.
Jeff
Well, here, let me just tell you. Corey says he feels like he may have overreacted slightly to the situation.
Jeffrey
I don't know if we should put slightly in there. It sounds like he overreacted.
Jeff
It was a mild.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Jeff
Very light jump to conclusions.
Jeffrey
A mild confrontation at the cock with the barista.
Jeff
Leaving a phone number on your cup.
Aaron
I mean, that's not exactly what happens.
Jeffrey
Oh, what do you mean?
Jeff
Well, we only have Corey's side of the story, so maybe he missed something.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Aaron
Well, I mean, it's kind of. It's kind of, like, embarrassing. So. So, like, I. So I'm a girl.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Brooke
Oh, that's not groundbreaking.
Jeff
I'm supposed to react to that.
Jeffrey
So you all.
Aaron
You all go on dates and, you know, you tell your friends where you're going and you.
Jeffrey
That Right.
Jeff
Okay.
Jeffrey
You're like, safety net.
Brooke
Your girlfriend.
Connor
Yeah.
Aaron
So I have a friend that is a barista at the coffee shop that I chose for us to go to. And so often I'll be like, if I drop my spoon on the ground, this person is crazy. And I need you to come over and you know what I mean? Like, you're not buying, but she's keeping an eye out for me or whatever.
Jeff
So 1.
Jeffrey
I'm confused. What does that have to do with the number and the name on the cup, though?
Alexis
I already want out of the.
Brooke
Was that the secret code or something?
Aaron
So listen, so I do this thing. My hobby is speed puzzling.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah, he told us about that. He was excited about that. He thought that was cool.
Aaron
Oh. And so I have a team of four. Or I had a team of four, but our fourth member recently moved. And it's Devin's number, who is a person that my friend wanted me to text to be like, hey, I hear you're a puzzler. You put the number on my cup. And then they outlined it in the shape of a puzzle piece.
Nikki
Oh, what?
Jeff
He told us about that, but he didn't mention anything about the puzzle piece.
Aaron
Yeah, yeah. He was more focused on the number than actually looking at it.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Jeff
Okay.
Jeffrey
Why wouldn't your friend just text you the number of Devin, who was a
Aaron
busy day at the coffee shop? Like, the line was really long. And so I think she saw Me and was like, oh, yeah, I gotta tell her about Devin.
Jeffrey
Oh my God.
Brooke
So he's making a scene and it's.
Jeffrey
Why didn't you explain this to him when he was yelling?
Aaron
This was before I even got the cup. And then I see him yelling at the people and then he comes back.
Jeff
So you didn't really know that that's what the confrontation was about until he brought the cup over to your table.
Aaron
He brought the cup and I saw the, the number and the name and I was like, I didn't know.
Jeff
And nobody knew who Devin was. Cuz Devin wasn't there in that coffee shop.
Aaron
Devin is not a barista.
Jeffrey
I thought Devin was just a scaredy cat hiding in the back.
Jeff
If you want to talk about a scaredy cat who's hiding right now, that would be Corey hiding on the other
Jeffrey
line listening to this conversation to be embarrassing.
Corey
Hi. Yeah, no, how you doing?
Brooke
Oh, doesn't sound embarrassing.
Jeff
Yeah, sorry, Aaron. That's how this segment works.
Brooke
Yeah.
Aaron
Wait, what?
Corey
So wait, so. So let me just clarify. Devin. Devin is a gal that's supposed to be on your team. And like, there was no Devin back. You had a friend who was a barista back there. That's right.
Jeffrey
Wait, what?
Nikki
Who's this?
Jeff
That's Corey on the other line. He's been listening to this conversation quietly.
Jeffrey
Coming in a little hot.
Brooke
Yeah, it's like a coffee shop all over again.
Jeffrey
Yeah, Cory?
Corey
Yeah, hi. Yeah, it's just like, like nobody told me that. I would rather have heard that than just like nothing, you know? Like, please tell me the truth. Like, I want to know what is going on here so that I can, like, judge it appropriately. Like, I was just living in a fantasy.
Aaron
We had just met. I didn't know if, like, you would also get mad that my friend was there. You know what I mean? Like, why would I get mad at Dad? I thought you would get mad because you already yelled at the baristas, you know?
Jeffrey
Yeah, it's kind of a solid read on Erin's part there.
Corey
Dude, I don't even know, man. I like, it just. It just blows my mind that your choice was to not explain.
Jeffrey
I thought you wanted to apologize for this.
Jeff
That was an apology. If you really look hard at it.
Corey
Like, I'm apologizing for reacting off of something that, like, I didn't. I did react because big. I did react big. I'll fully admit that. I'm so sorry about that. But like, I don't think you need a.
Jeff
But I don't think you need A butt, I think you just leave it where you had it.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Connor
I'll leave it at.
Corey
I'll leave it at that.
Jeff
Okay. There you go. He's so deeply sorry for how he reacted and wishes that he could take it all back. And we would love to offer you the chance to take it all back by sending you on another date that we would pay for.
Brooke
We all know he was gonna say it's your friend's fault for writing, but,
Jeff
Aaron, that's our offer to you. We'll offer to send you, you and Corey out one more time on our dime. You know, let's put the pieces of this puzzle back together.
Brooke
Hey, we never even got to the puzzle.
Aaron
I mean, I guess it's. I guess it's up to him because it sounds like he's pretty mad at me for doing the girl thing of having a backup.
Corey
I'm mad that you didn't tell me that you didn't. Like, you didn't feel okay to share.
Jeff
Okay.
Aaron
You know, Yeah, I didn't because, like, we'd known each other for 10 minutes, and. And I saw your reaction to the barista, and so I was afraid that you'd take it out on me, too. So protect myself by not bringing it up.
Jeffrey
Man, is this one giant red flag.
Aaron
It's a.
Nikki
It's a.
Aaron
It's a girl thing.
Jeff
You know, this is good. We get all of the therapy out now.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Jeff
And then the relationship is smooth sailing the rest of the way.
Jeffrey
I have told myself many times that that would be the case.
Jeff
The hardest part is the first date.
Brooke
Jigsaw puzzles after that.
Jeff
Exactly. So there you go, Aaron. We'll send you out.
Aaron
Oh, my God.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Aaron
I mean, honestly, our first date was really only like. Like 30 minutes maybe. So I guess, like, I. I'd be open to. To going out on a longer date.
Jeff
Corey, she's being very forgiving here because she realizes that you didn't know the full scope of what really was going on with the phone number on her cup. She sees that. Can you be forgiving of Aaron and try this thing again with less confusion and yelling next time?
Corey
Yeah, let's give another shot.
Brooke
Okay.
Aaron
Yeah, let's do it.
Jeff
Well, congratulations, you two. You guys gonna up one more time?
Jeffrey
Why do I have a feeling we're not going to hear an update update on this one?
Jeff
Come on now. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

at the end of that call, Brooke mentioned something that we do on our show called Second Aid. Update. Update.
Jeffrey
Yeah, yeah.
Jeff
Where we check back in with a couple months later after they've agreed to go out again to find out how the relationship's going, Brooke said she doesn't think we'll get one from Corey and Aaron. And my question, Brooke, is why wouldn't we really, why wouldn't we want that?
Jeffrey
Because it just sounds like they're just not the right radio.
Jeff
Gold is what it sounds like if he's yelling at a barista Barista on their first outing. Just imagine what would happen on their second date.

Podcast Summary: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update Classics – "A Slip of the Ex + Putting Together The Pieces"
Date: June 27, 2026
In this episode, the Brooke and Jeffrey crew bring two "Second Date Update" classics, entertainingly dissecting why two seemingly promising first dates fizzled out. The hosts help listeners get to the bottom of dating mysteries through on-air calls to the elusive parties, promising high entertainment (if not high success rates in reconciling couples).
The episode features:
Throughout, the show's signature humor, speculation, and playful jabs keep things relatable for anyone navigating the jungle of modern dating.
Connor contacts the show after being ghosted by Nikki following what he thought was a great first date.
Their date plan was set through Connor’s unique emoji-only pickup line (man emoji, woman emoji, sushi, dancing, music, gift box, equal sign, question mark).
"I don't send any words at all...It's emojis, dude." – Connor [06:40]
The hosts joke about the creativity (and possible confusion) of Connor's technique.
Connor and Nikki enjoyed sushi, dancing, and drinks – exactly as the emojis foretold.
However, during the date Nikki accidentally called Connor “Martin,” which she later said was her ex’s name.
Connor handled it with humor and thought the incident was smoothed over.
"I made...a joke or two about it. I thought it was all good, but now it's been like a week and a half and I haven't heard anything." – Connor [09:32]
Nikki picks up, seeming wary and surprised by the radio show’s involvement.
When pressed about ghosting Connor, Nikki reveals the real story: "Martin" is not her ex, but rather a reference to Martin Scorsese—because Connor’s eyebrows are so thick she saved his number as “Martin eyebrows.”
"His eyebrows are the bushiest eyebrows I've ever seen...He makes Martin's look thin." – Nikki [15:53]
She admits she could not look past Connor’s “beyond the trend” brows and could not focus on anything else during the date.
"I couldn't stop looking at them. It was like a bad accident that you can't stop looking at." – Nikki [16:35]
Connor, caught off guard, calmly defends his brows, stating, "I'm happy with how I look."
Hosts and listeners comment on the unnecessary rudeness, but Nikki doubles down.
Nikki offers to set Connor up with another “brow person,” which the team finds more insulting than helpful.
"That's why we date. Everybody has different preferences. I'm sorry, Connor...but your brows are too much." – Nikki [17:34] "I'm above it, man...I think she looks great. I would have been happy to go on a second date, but...not the girl." – Connor [19:40]
Corey was intrigued by Aaron’s unusual hobby: speed puzzling.
They agree to meet for a quick 30-minute coffee date.
"She was a speed puzzler...It's like a big competition. Teams, DJ, pot at the end." – Corey [26:20]
Corey picks up the coffee cups, but Aaron’s has a different name ("Devin") and a phone number written on it.
Corey is unsettled and loudly confronts the baristas, suspecting someone tried to hit on Aaron mid-date.
"I said, like really loudly, 'Who's Devin? I'm on a date! Who did this?'" – Corey [29:37]
The confrontation causes awkwardness for the rest of the date, and Aaron doesn't respond to Corey's follow-ups.
The hosts reach Aaron to get her side of the story.
She reveals the truth: the phone number was a message from her friend (a barista), intended as a recommendation for a new female member ("Devin") for her puzzle team—not a romantic overture.
"It's Devin's number, who is a person that my friend wanted me to text to be like, 'Hey, I hear you're a puzzler.' They outlined it in the shape of a puzzle piece." – Aaron [36:48]
Corey expresses embarrassment for his overreaction and apologizes.
Jeff and the team encourage forgiveness, suggesting both were just caught in an awkward, unfamiliar situation.
Aaron, appreciating Corey’s apology and the context, agrees to a second date—with hopes to finally talk about puzzles.
"Our first date was really only like 30 minutes, maybe, so I guess I'd be open to going out on a longer date." – Aaron [40:48] "Let's give it another shot." – Corey [41:05]
The call-in segment features listeners defending Connor after the eyebrow incident, showing the community feel and investment in the show's subjects.
"Our listeners did not hold back." – Jeff [23:35]
