Okay, so Samsung just dropped two new foldable phones. First the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a shorter and wider shape like passport shape which makes it perfect for videos, reading, scrolling, all of it. Then there's the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. It's Samsung's biggest screen ever. We're talking super premium with an AI powered multi window to run multiple apps at once. Ashton
Well, this is technical director Ashton. It looks like I'm the only one that showed up on a classic Saturday second day update. So I'm gonna leave my Venmo code at the bottom if anyone wants to send me some extra cash. That would be awesome. I need a raise.
Jeffrey
Imagine being married for a couple decades and then it doesn't work out.
Brooke
That sucks.
Jeffrey
And now you have no choice but to try dating apps.
Carson
Oh, yeah.
Jeffrey
It's the first time you've ever seen matchmaking apps before. And that's when you get the best advice ever.
Brooke
What's that?
Jeffrey
Three words, Plenty of fish.
Alexis
Oh, not that one.
Brooke
You're being sarcastic here.
Jeffrey
I see one of our listeners tried it. And I don't think you're gonna believe what happened on her very first meetup. It's definitely plenty of fish ish. And she's gonna spill the ish when we hear from her. In your second aid update.
Show Announcer
Next, Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning second date update.
Jeffrey
Imagine getting back on the dating apps after being married for years.
Brooke
Okay, scary. That would be weird.
Jeffrey
What does that look like?
Brooke
Yeah, my parents.
Jeffrey
In other words, horror, fear. It's worse than the movie Saw five. I'm not even talking about the writing in that.
Alexis
Oh, my God, I forgot. There's like 10 of those.
Jeffrey
Yeah, scripts. Not great. And you're just jumping into a scary new world that maybe you've never even really experienced before. And we've got a woman who recently cannonballed back into the dating pool and needs a little help from us today. Her name is Vanessa. So, Vanessa, welcome to the show.
Vanessa
Thanks, guys. Thanks for having me on.
Brooke
Yeah, it sounds like your experience is more of a belly flop than a cannonball.
Jeffrey
We don't know everything about your date yet. Why don't we start from the beginning? And tell us, who's this person that you met recently online?
Vanessa
Well, I met a guy on Plenty of Fish and I am recently divorced. I've been married for years. I got married very young.
Brooke
So had you ever done dating apps prior to this?
Vanessa
Never. I've been married for a long time, and so I kind of getting out there again, and it's terrifying. It really is. You see all these horrible stories on the news and you think, oh, my God, is this person a serial killer? Is it too good to be true?
Alexis
What kind of dating app are you on, though? Are you swapping, typing, or are you, like, on one of those real sophisticated ones where you fill out a bio
Brooke
she said, plenty of fish, so I don't know about sophisticated.
Vanessa
Yeah, my bad. My friends were like, plenty of fish is good. And I'm like, okay.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah. I can't believe you actually trust those people, but that's interesting. So you met a guy. What's his name?
Vanessa
His name is Keith.
Brooke
Okay. And is this the first guy you've matched with and gone out with?
Vanessa
Yes. Yes.
Alexis
Oh, wow.
Brooke
Kind of pressure.
Jeffrey
Wow. That's a big, big move. So what. What attracted you to Keith?
Vanessa
I got a good vibe from him, and, you know, he likes dogs. He's kind of in a similar situation where he said he's getting back out there, and we talked a little bit online, so I kind of felt good about him.
Brooke
Okay.
Carson
Okay.
Brooke
So how long did it take? I mean, I'm assuming you guys met up in real life, right?
Vanessa
Yeah. Yeah. So he was really sweet. He was like, where do you want to go? And I'm like, oh, that's nice. And so I suggested the botanical gardens.
Brooke
Oh.
Vanessa
Oh, yeah.
Alexis
It's funny you said that.
Jeffrey
I was like, ooh.
Alexis
And then I'm like, I'm the only guy.
Brooke
That's probably nothing sexy like some orchids.
Alexis
I went to a mechanical garden once when I was a kid, and they sound. They were so cool.
Jeffrey
Things get hot by the reflection pool.
Brooke
I'm sure it is kind of humid in those places.
Vanessa
He did have a lot of plants in his, like, photos, and I was just kind of like, well, maybe he knows about plants, so I thought maybe he would like it too.
Jeffrey
Yeah, no, definitely spice up the conversation with some exciting plant talk. So how did that go?
Alexis
This is like a museum date.
Caller/Listener
I mean, I feel like walking is less awkward than sitting at a bar for your first date.
Jeffrey
Back at it.
Brooke
I'd rather go on a walk.
Alexis
Look at this flower.
Vanessa
There's a lot of other people around. And you got plans?
Carson
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
Because you're worried about the serial killer angle of it all still.
Vanessa
Exactly. Yeah.
Alexis
So she's like, we're going to a butterfly farm or something.
Jeffrey
This is your first date that you've been on since you were married?
Vanessa
Yeah.
Jeffrey
You must have been nervous. How did it go?
Vanessa
Well, I mean, I was pleasantly surprised. He was just a bit more casually than I was. But we. We strolled around and we discussed flowers, and I gave him some facts about orchid. You know, little things that I've learned over the years. You know, just conversation starters, hopefully, you know.
Brooke
Do you think you were yourself on the date?
Vanessa
Yeah, I do. I was surprisingly relaxed. I mean, I Was, like, super nervous at first, but I calmed down as soon as he, like, you know, I just got a good vibe from him.
Keith
He was really.
Alexis
He showed up. You're in, like, a pleasant environment that you're comfortable with.
Jeffrey
The Zoloft is hitting just right. That's awesome.
Caller/Listener
But did you just talk about orchids?
Vanessa
Well, no. I mean, there was lots of other plants. We. We talked about a lot of. I mean, there was this one really embarrassing moment. He knocked over decorative, like, water can thing.
Brooke
Oh.
Vanessa
And it broke. And I was like an. Employees were like, oh.
Leanne
I was like, oh, my gosh.
Vanessa
So I just made a joke that he was, like, dangerous to plants. And I'm, like, hoping he didn't get offended.
Leanne
I don't know.
Alexis
I'm sure.
Brooke
So that's the one thing you found that went wrong with your date, is that you may have offended him with your plant joke?
Alexis
Yeah.
Vanessa
I'm just scared that I offended him. But he seemed okay. We sat down and we got tea from the little stand, and the date ended really, really well, I thought. I mean, he walked me to my car, gave me a hug. I told him I had a great time.
Brooke
This is really wholesome.
Caller/Listener
Yeah, it is.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
A little too wholesome for the show.
Vanessa
I know. I'm a little worried. I'm like, maybe this is too good to be true. But, I mean, we had a nice time and I told him, I said, look, I would love to see you again and just kind of do something similar or maybe go out to eat or something like that. But I haven't heard from him, and I'm just kind of upset right now.
Alexis
May have been out of the dating game for a while, but you have caught up so quickly. You're immediately on the apps, and when things go wrong, you come right to us. That's what everybody does. It's dating nowadays.
Vanessa
Yeah.
Alexis
Good job.
Vanessa
Thank you. I. I'm just. Like I said, I'm learning to get back out there. And I mean, in worst case scenario, if I did screw up, I did do something wrong. Because I'm so new to the dating, you know, game again that maybe, you know, if I made a mistake, I can learn from it. It could be a learning moment.
Brooke
I can move on and improve my attitude. That's a good, positive attitude.
Jeffrey
And even if it doesn't work out with Keith, just like your app says, there are plenty of fish out there for you to hook up with and discuss orchids with.
Leanne
Right?
ChatGPT Ad Voice
Right.
Show Announcer
Okay.
Carson
Yeah.
Jeffrey
So how long has it been since your botanical garden date happened?
Vanessa
It's been like two weeks.
Carson
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay. That's a long time in the modern dating world, so.
Caller/Listener
But it's part of the experience. You need to get ghosted a little.
Jeffrey
Yes, absolutely.
Caller/Listener
You're first.
Brooke
Ghosting? Yeah, like.
Caller/Listener
Oh, exactly.
Jeffrey
Well, Keith's got some splaining to do, and we're gon get them on the line for answers in your second date update right after this.
Show Announcer
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeffrey
If you're just joining us for the second date, we've been talking to Vanessa, who after many years of marriage, recently hopped back into the dating world. Yeah, even though she was nervous, she went full out. Did all the stereotypical hot date things. Botanical gardens, cups of herbal tea, even edgy plant humor. Yeah, it was intense, to say the least. But two weeks later, she's getting her very first taste of ghosting. Isn't sure why. Now, before we call Keith here, I do want to ask you, Vanessa, since you said you were the one who suggested the botanical gardens, you think it's possible that Keith maybe wasn't as into plant dates as you were?
Brooke
She thought that he was just because of his profile pics, but maybe he just thought I look good in that picture.
Jeffrey
Sure.
Alexis
You know, did you pick up a
Jeffrey
vibe like that at all?
Vanessa
Yeah, I mean, that's a possibility.
Alexis
Did you know most guys are, but not everyone's a flower guy.
Vanessa
Yeah, yeah.
Jeffrey
He could see you as a botanical garden lady, where he's more of a beer garden type of dude.
Brooke
Equally fun garden.
Vanessa
Yeah.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Maybe we can find a garden somewhere in between to send you on your next date. Let's reach out. We're going to dial his number right now and hopefully he picks up. Okay.
Vanessa
Okay.
Keith
All right.
Brooke
Okay. Don't let this ruin the rest of your dating experience. One bad egg does not mean they're all rotten.
Jeffrey
Oh, I thought. I thought you meant us.
Brooke
No.
Alexis
Well, because we probably will.
Jeffrey
But we're gonna try our best here. I'm calling them right now.
Keith
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hey, we're looking to speak with Keith.
Keith
This is he. Who's calling?
Jeffrey
Hey, man. This is a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Alexis
Hello, Keith.
Leanne
Hi.
Keith
Oh, okay.
Alexis
Good morning.
Keith
Good morning. Hi.
Jeffrey
We're calling because we're doing this segment. It's called a second date update. I don't know if you know about that, but it's where if one of our listeners goes out with somebody and afterwards they're not getting a call back, they can email us to reach out to them and try and figure out if there's a reason for that.
Keith
Oh, my gosh.
Caller/Listener
Come on.
Brooke
It's kind of fun. I mean, who would ever think that you'd be called for a reason like this?
Keith
I don't even want to ask who's.
Brooke
Who's the person you don't want to ask?
Keith
No.
Brooke
Dying with curiosity.
Jeffrey
I mean, it's. You should see it as a compliment. It's a good thing that they felt so strongly about you. They reached out to us for help. But in this case, it's a woman named Vanessa.
Carson
Okay, yeah.
Keith
That's why I didn't want to ask.
Caller/Listener
What? No.
Brooke
Botanical garden Vanessa?
Keith
Yeah.
Carson
Yeah.
Keith
Oh, my God.
Jeffrey
Why did you say you don't even want us to ask?
Keith
Listen, I don't know what she told you, but that woman, she's a freak.
Caller/Listener
What
Brooke
are you talking about? The same Vanessa.
Caller/Listener
Always the ones you least expect.
Brooke
I guess you're not wrong.
Jeffrey
A freak how?
Keith
I don't want to speak bad on anybody, but first and foremost, we met up on this app. Plenty of fish. And he was deliberately catfishing me with these. These pictures from, like, 10, 15 years ago.
Alexis
Wait, but that's an accident.
Brooke
I don't understand.
Caller/Listener
I always think about that. When you get back into dating after that long, how do you have good photos for an act?
Alexis
Yeah, that's a good point.
Brooke
Because if you were married, there's no way a husband was taking good pictures of you.
Jeffrey
Well, I'm sorry you're doing Bill on the couch. Do you know all of this, Keith, about Vanessa? That it's her first time, at least in a long time, on the dating apps?
Brooke
No. Ever?
Keith
Well, I mean, she said she was married for a good little while, but it was obviously a longer while than I thought.
Brooke
Wait, are you saying that she was a lot older than you expected?
Keith
The pictures made me think we were around the same age, but honestly, it's. That woman could be my mother at this point.
Alexis
Were they in black and white? Because that's normally a sign.
Jeffrey
Okay, and what part of that turns you off?
Keith
Oh, my gosh. I don't even know you guys.
Brooke
He's joking.
Popsicle Ad Voice
He's joking.
Brooke
I mean, it doesn't ever feel good when you expect one thing and you get something else when you start a date. Right? So right at the beginning, you were turned off.
Keith
I was shocked. But I'm just like, listen, I'm already out here. Might as well just go through with it, okay? And we ended up going to this botanical garden, right?
Jeffrey
We heard that that was actually her idea, but I'm More curious about why you said, she's a friend freak. Well, how did that come up?
Brooke
I thought he just meant because of the pictures, but is that what you meant?
Alexis
Could be multiple meanings here.
Keith
No. We're walking through the garden, and she's just getting aggressive. Like, she's asking me what kind of pictures do I want from her, and she keeps going on about it, and I'm like, it's okay. I don't need anything.
Popsicle Ad Voice
What?
Alexis
Oh, she wanted a hot picture.
Leanne
Oh.
Jeffrey
But she's asking what ones that she can send to you, apparently.
Keith
But I don't know if they're gonna be 15 years old, too, or what.
Jeffrey
Well, it's nice of her to ask what you like.
Caller/Listener
Hey, those take work.
Jeffrey
Yeah. She's like, do you want one side or do you want both of them?
Brooke
It's an awkward. It's an awkward assumption that anyone wants them, period. I mean, you're at the botanical gardens in the daytime, totally sober.
Keith
Yeah, exactly. And I told her, I don't need any of that, and she made this weird comment. She was like, oh, you want the real thing?
Alexis
Oh. Oh, wow.
Brooke
Okay. She was married for a long time. Maybe she's, like, living out what she
Alexis
didn't get to do before.
Brooke
Or maybe she thinks that this is how dating works now, you know?
Jeffrey
Yeah, she's trying it out.
Keith
It's one thing to be trying it out, but she literally suggested they had this little plant shop in the garden, and she suggested we go behind it and do things.
Jeffrey
What is happening, Vanessa?
Brooke
Dude, I would have been mortified.
Jeffrey
I did not get that vibe from her when we were talking to her her before.
Brooke
How did you even respond?
Keith
I had no time to respond. She was like, there's nobody in the women's restroom.
Brooke
What is happening?
Jeffrey
And that was all a turnoff to you?
Keith
Oh, yeah, it was that and then having to sit down and drink tea casually after that.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Bobcat Ad Voice
Wow.
Alexis
After you, like, lowy rejected her.
Brooke
Make awkward eye contact the entire time.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, the good news is you won't have to worry about awkward eye contact in this situation because she is on the line.
Brooke
Oh, Vanessa.
Jeffrey
So you can't see her, but she does want to talk to you.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Carson
Oh, my gosh.
Keith
She literally heard all of that?
Jeffrey
Yeah, I think she needed to think so. Vanessa, you there?
Vanessa
Yeah, yeah, I'm here.
Alexis
Vanessa, you dog.
Vanessa
I mean, like, that's just what men want, right? And that's just how I am. I'm very active. Like, you know, I have a very high drive.
Alexis
Oh, wow. Okay.
Vanessa
I didn't know I was dating a snowflake.
Jeffrey
Excuse me?
Alexis
Yeah, you was.
Popsicle Ad Voice
Come on, man.
Vanessa
I mean, if you're not gonna be, you know, a man, then I'm gonna have to take the initiative.
Brooke
What are you talking.
Jeffrey
Keith, she's calling you out, dude. What do you have to say to that?
Carson
Whoa.
Keith
Do you think taking initiative is going behind a plant shop? It doesn't have to be like that. That's too much.
Vanessa
Well, it was the perfect opportunity. Nobody was there.
Leanne
What?
Keith
It's the first date. We don't do that.
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Carson
Men these days.
Vanessa
Men these days.
Alexis
A lot of people would like this.
Brooke
I don't.
Caller/Listener
If it was a Netflix and chilled it, you wouldn't be shocked. It's the gardens. Really threw it off.
Keith
I mean, put yourself in my shoes for a second. After the date, she starts sending me weird messages to come over. She's telling me that she has these adult movies on Blu Ray.
Jeffrey
On Blu Ray?
Brooke
That's still a thing?
Alexis
Putting in an adult movie?
Brooke
Vanessa scratched. Let me fix that.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Vanessa, you have those?
Vanessa
Well, those were my husband's. I got them in the divorce.
Caller/Listener
Good for you.
Jeffrey
It's nice of you to offer to share that with your dates, though. That's really sweet.
Brooke
But your date isn't responding to any of your text messages, and you keep going.
Vanessa
Well, he never said no.
Brooke
Yeah, but he didn't say yes, you know?
Jeffrey
Well, now this is a good chance for him to say yes, because we're going to offer to send you two out on another date. And, Keith, if you're. If you're open to trying this and giving Vanessa another chance, we'll pay for it.
Brooke
I mean, you know what you're going to get this time around.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I mean, she says herself that she's very forward. She's open. She's just putting herself out there. Only because she felt such a good connection with you, I'm assuming so.
Brooke
It sounded like such a sweet, innocent day. I still can't get over.
Ashton
It was.
Jeffrey
It was sweet and innocent.
Caller/Listener
I will never look at a botanical garden the same she did.
Brooke
I didn't want it to be sweet and innocent.
Jeffrey
Well, maybe the next one can be a little bit better, because we'll pay for it. Keith, if you say yes to another date with her.
Keith
Absolutely not.
Alexis
Okay.
Vanessa
You're. You're such a wimp.
Brooke
I mean, really, I think that you like going forward in your dating life. Vanessa maybe should be a little more upfront about what you're looking for.
Jeffrey
Full up in frontal is what people are looking for.
Brooke
I mean it sounds like your game to do that before you even meet anyone.
Vanessa
So yeah, my, my, my, my grandkids told me about tender so I think I want to jump on that.
Alexis
Oh my God.
Show Announcer
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning y'.

I need to hear from our listeners. Text in at 78592 if you've ever successfully fooled around in a botanical garden. The more I say it, the hotter it sounds.
Brooke
Has anyone ever, I mean, I don't think you'd get caught. Cause nobody would suspect it. Yeah, seriously, it's not like they're knocking on the door to the bathroom if you've been in there for too long.
Alexis
Actually, if I saw two people kissing in a botanical garden, I'd be like, like, ooh. Their first kiss ever.
Brooke
Their grandparents.
Caller/Listener
Especially her. Yeah, how she comes off. Look at her and suspect it.
Brooke
We didn't even really Go back to the fact that she basically catfished him. Yeah, yeah, that was kind of incident though.
Alexis
She doesn't know what catfishing is.
Brooke
I don't know. She was a lot more seasoned than we gave her credit for.
Alexis
It's true.
Jeffrey
But my guess is that Brooke is thinking the exact same thing that I am. Where have all the loose men gone on?
Alexis
Where did they go?
Jeffrey
They used to be roaming all over.
Alexis
Guys, why are you keeping it zipped up nowadays?
Brooke
Why do you men have self respect?
Carson
I know.
Jeffrey
It's just a different day and age now. People are hesitant to get freaky behind plant shops in broad daylight.
Carson
Yeah.
Alexis
Wow.
Brooke
I never thought we'd be here, Jeff.
Leanne
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Anyway, listening to us on the podcast right now, make sure you hit that subscribe button. And if you need help in your dating life, you can always email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back.
Show Announcer
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeffrey
Every single guy knows that if you're picking up a lady in your whip, you need to make sure it's looking clean and smelling like success.
Brooke
Oh, okay.
Jeffrey
That's the first step in tricking her into thinking you're a responsible adult. She won't have any clue that your floor was strewn with empty Red Bull cans and old McDonald's wrappers like, two hours ago. And I know one of our little listener wishes that he would have done a better job tidying up his vehicle because his entire night was ruined when his date reached down and pulled something out from between the seats. It was definitely incriminating and left all of us in shock. You're gonna hear it in your brand new second date update.
Show Announcer
Next, Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning second date update.
Jeffrey
For a lot of guys on the dating apps, coming up with the perfect opener is like painting the Mona Lisa.
Alexis
Wow. Takes a lot of time, huh?
Leanne
Pure art.
Jeffrey
You just put something down, stand back, you study it, add a little word here, adjust that line there.
Brooke
Take off the eyebrows there.
T-Mobile Legal/Disclaimer Voice
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Toss in an extra emoji. Delete that pun. And after four hours, you finally send her Four hours. Hey, what's up?
Caller/Listener
Yep,
Jeffrey
no response.
Brooke
But you put hay in there, which is, like, so personal.
Alexis
You shouldn't have used the apostrophe.
Jeffrey
Oh, is that what it was? I thought the three question marks were gonna work, but today we have a listener who says he actually put in some work, real work, into figuring out an opening line with a 60% reply rate, which is extremely high for guys on these apps.
Caller/Listener
Is it?
Jeffrey
That's very, very high.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Jeffrey
What's the average? Like, 2% reply rate?
Discover Ad Voice
Maybe lower.
Brooke
How many messages are you guys sending?
Jeffrey
It's very difficult. His name is Carson. So, Carson, welcome to the show, ma'.
Ashton
Am.
Carson
How you doing, guys?
Brooke
Oh, are you gonna let him deliver the line?
Jeffrey
Yeah, I don't know what the line is. I'm curious. I don't have it written. So, like, what kind of line are we working with here, Carson?
Carson
Like, we don't even need to talk. But I was wondering if you would critique my profile. I'm new here.
Brooke
Oh, Alexa.
Carson
Interesting.
Jeffrey
Okay, what do you think about that, Alexis? An invitation to critique his profile?
Caller/Listener
I don't know, but it's tricking you
Alexis
into looking him up.
Brooke
Yeah, but aren't they then looking at your profile with a negative view?
Caller/Listener
That's what I was gonna say, because you're only gonna pick out negative stuff
Brooke
to be funny about. You're not gonna say, but it's a conversation.
Jeffrey
So Alexis is in the 40% that would not reply to this, or I'd
Caller/Listener
probably reply something so rude that they don't reply back.
Jeffrey
Well, even, like.
Caller/Listener
I'd be like, this photo's terrible.
Jeffrey
Even that. I mean, that's a response in itself. That's a win, right, Carson? Even if it's mean.
Carson
Yeah, I mean, it did lead to someone. Her name is Leanne.
Jeffrey
Okay, Leanne.
Carson
Okay.
T-Mobile Ad Voice
She said.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
What was her critique?
Carson
She said I should smile more in photos because I look too serious.
Brooke
Oh, that's a nice one.
Leanne
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay. Yeah, if you have a good smile, then you should be showing that off. And women would like that.
Alexis
And pro tip. Girls will love it when you tell them that too. Yeah, you should smile more. You look so good.
Jeffrey
You smile just in the photos.
Leanne
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
So did you send her a personal pic of you smiling?
Carson
I did not. I said, well, you should see my smile in person.
Brooke
Oh, even better.
Carson
She said, okay.
Brooke
Oh, she said, okay.
Jeffrey
And you're like, look to your left out your window right now, and you're smiling.
Brooke
So what did you guys do for your date then?
Carson
I offered to pick her up.
Discover Ad Voice
Oh.
Carson
And we ended. We ended up going to a steakhouse.
Alexis
That's awesome.
Brooke
That's wanting to impress her with the steak dinner. I mean, you must really like this woman.
Carson
You know what? She's great. You know, we went to the steakhouse. Things went really well. It was everything I hoped it would be.
Brooke
I want to hear some highlights.
Jeffrey
Did you smile at her the whole time?
Carson
I tried to smile more. Yes. Good.
Jeffrey
Okay, make sure she sees that.
Caller/Listener
It could Be creepy if it's too much.
Alexis
That's all he did.
Jeffrey
Hey, how's your stage?
Brooke
With a steak knife in hand. What did you guys connect over?
Carson
Well, she's ruling the sports. I'm a big sports guy, so that's cool. That was an instant connection. We like similar kinds of music.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
I mean, this all sounds really good. There was nothing awkward that happened on the date.
Carson
Everything was great. The awkward moment was on the way home.
Ashton
Okay.
Carson
She saw something between the seats of my car.
Ashton
Uh. Oh.
Carson
And she reached out, she pulled it out, and it was a canister of lipstick.
Alexis
No.
Carson
Oh, I know, I know that looks really bad. It probably looked like I was on another date, but.
Alexis
Or you just tell her, like, look, that's not my shade.
Brooke
Yeah, you know, at least you own
Alexis
it a little bit.
Jeffrey
I have mine at home.
Brooke
Yeah, I mean, anyone could have dropped it in your car. It fallen out of a pocket.
Alexis
I don't know. Sister or friend or.
Brooke
What did she say?
Carson
Well, she. She certainly wanted to know where it came from. And I was.
Keith
I was.
Carson
I was honest with her. You know, I borrowed my ex girlfriend's car.
Brooke
Wait, you were driving your ex girlfriend's car?
Alexis
It wasn't your car?
Caller/Listener
Oh, no. That's worse than.
Leanne
Just.
Jeffrey
Did that totally smooth everything over for the conversation?
Alexis
Tell her that.
Carson
You know, mine was in the shop. I was trying to be straight up with her. Obviously the vibe kind of changed at that point.
Brooke
Why didn't you just say a friend?
Carson
If I could go back and change it, I think I would.
Alexis
That is it.
Vanessa
Yeah.
Carson
Stop. It looked like I looked. I thought I was getting a good night kiss. Everything was great. Obviously that didn't happen.
Keith
Oh, yeah, that's.
Carson
That's why I'm here. I'm hoping maybe you guys can help me.
Alexis
Wait, and now she's not calling you back? Like you haven't smoothed it over yet?
Carson
No, I haven't heard from her since about a week or so.
Alexis
So everything was going good. Circumstance.
Brooke
What's the relationship with you and your ex? Before we call her, they're on good
Jeffrey
terms Enough for her to let her borrow the car.
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke
How good of terms? Like?
Carson
Like, we were always friends. We tried to date. It didn't work out. We're still friends.
Alexis
That's so cool you guys can do that.
Caller/Listener
Okay, that sounds different when you try to date somebody.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
So I mean, like, you could describe her as a friend instead of an ex.
Popsicle Ad Voice
For sure.
Keith
Yeah.
Brooke
Did you get a chance to explain that to Leanne?
Carson
I didn't get A chance to. Because we were so close to her house. That was kind of the end of it.
Jeffrey
Honestly, it's probably for the best. You don't probably want to be gloating about how great of a relationship you have with your ex girlfriend on a first date with somebody else.
Brooke
I'm sorry. If you're driving her car, you're gonna want to explain something. Like, it's better than we're still sleeping together.
Alexis
What answer is good? When you're like, she's the best, or you're like, oh, I hate her.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you're driving her car.
Brooke
No, I think it's a green flag if someone can get along with their ex. For sure.
Carson
Absolutely. You know, well, that's why I'm hoping you guys can get her on the phone and help me explain that to her, because I don't know if she's going to listen to me.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
All right, I'm going to let Brooke tackle that. I was going to say the girls
Brooke
need to handle this, cuz, like, I'm friends with all sorts of exes.
Alexis
Coming from you, it's good. It's easy for a guy. Oh, we're best friends. Yeah.
Jeffrey
What's wrong with him hanging out with ex? Anyway, we'll call Leanne for you after this and try and help you get your second date update in just a minute.
Show Announcer
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeffrey
If you're just joining us, let's quickly recap Carson's first date with a little game of good or bad.
Caller/Listener
That's fun.
Jeffrey
Steakhouse dinner.
Brooke
Good idea.
Jeffrey
Good.
Carson
Very good.
Jeffrey
Lots of smiling. Good. Picking her up in your ex girlfriend's white Jetta. I don't know.
Caller/Listener
I had a white Jetta. That's good.
Brooke
Every blonde had a white Jet.
Jeffrey
Every ex girlfriend drives there.
Brooke
I had a blue Jetta.
Jeffrey
So we're thinking that's probably the big red flag that's been scaring Leanne away from a second meetup with Carson. But Brooke wisely pointed out, actually, Chris could be seen as a green flag that he doesn't have a toxic relationship with past love interests. Right, Brooke?
Brooke
Dude, I think that if you can be friends with an ex, it doesn't mean that you still have feelings for them. It's when you still have feelings is when things get dicey and you can't talk to them and you're angry and everything.
Jeffrey
Okay, but what about friends with benefits? No feelings. Is that still okay?
Brooke
Well, I mean, it's an X, so it doesn't really count. All right.
Jeffrey
Carson does that feel good? Does it give you a little bit of hope before we make this call?
Carson
I'm optimistic.
Brooke
Okay. But there's no benefits with your ex, right?
Carson
No, no, no.
Leanne
Okay.
Caller/Listener
Okay. Good.
Brooke
Good.
ChatGPT Ad Voice
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
Well, besides the car, he does get to borrow her car, right?
Brooke
I meant the different types of.
Jeffrey
Not the physical type of benefit. So let's reach out to Leanne. Hopefully she picks up, and we can explain this whole thing and get her to go out with you again.
Carson
Okay, Sounds great, guys.
Brooke
Here we go.
Jeffrey
Dialing it right now. Let's do it.
Carson
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hey, is this Leanne?
Leanne
Yeah, this is her. Who's this?
Jeffrey
Well, this is actually. Yeah, a whole ensemble of people called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. We're a radio show.
Alexis
Good morning.
Leanne
Good. Good morning.
Alexis
Thanks for saying it back. People don't say it back a lot. Yeah, I do appreciate that.
Brooke
It's like when you say you're welcome or thank you.
Alexis
Yeah. You're a nice person.
Jeffrey
Leanne, we're hoping this can be a good morning for you because we're doing something called a second date update.
Leanne
Okay. All right. You know, I've seen it. I've seen it on social media.
Jeffrey
Oh, you don't sound like you're a fan.
Discover Ad Voice
Yeah.
Leanne
So.
Brooke
Well, thank you for finding on social media. You can go to our podcast too.
Jeffrey
She doesn't sound. She didn't sound like she liked it.
Caller/Listener
It comes up in the algorithm.
Brooke
Always be promoting.
Caller/Listener
All right.
Leanne
It's always a disaster. It's always some nightmare case.
Brooke
Not. That's not true. No, that's not true.
Alexis
We only air the disaster.
Brooke
Just the ones that go viral.
Vanessa
Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
And we're hoping this is not one of those that you'll never even see this in your feed because we're reaching out based on a date you went with. With a guy named Carson.
Leanne
Oh, okay.
Brooke
Would you call it a disaster, your day with Carson?
Leanne
I don't know. Carson. Like, Carson. What are you doing? Carson?
Jeffrey
Yeah, so we spoke to Carson earlier. And. And he had really glowing reviews about the date. Just. What we know from it is that you two connected on a dating app. You said you really liked his smile, had a nice dinner at a steakhouse. There was no kiss at the end. He was a little surprised by that, but.
Brooke
No. Disappointed, I think.
Jeffrey
Disappointed. But now you're not open to another one, so he's trying to figure out if there's a reason.
Leanne
He must have left something out.
Jeffrey
I left something out.
Brooke
I think you did. Yeah. You did, actually.
Leanne
I mean, I would be embarrassed, but he was Driving his ex girlfriend's car.
Jeffrey
Okay, yeah, yeah, he did tell us that. I just didn't want to recap that part in case it wasn't a big issue for you. So I was kind of hoping.
Brooke
What was your reaction when he told
Leanne
you that that's not okay. Why that's not okay? Like, okay, that just means that someone special in your life is still in your life.
Alexis
I mean, technically.
Jeffrey
Okay, it sounds like you feel threatened by the ex girlfriend a little bit.
Leanne
I know. Not that I've just. I've dated guys in similar situations and it always ends bad in my. My personal situation.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, that's. That's okay that you can think that, but let Brooke explain to you why you're wrong. Go ahead, Brooke.
Brooke
That's not what I'm trying to do. But I do think that you could maybe change your stance on a little bit if you thought of it more as like a green flag. Like, here's a guy who still respects someone that he dated that he. That was. He was close to, and it's good that they can still have a non romantic relationship, right?
Leanne
Yeah, I guess. I never considered it that way.
Brooke
I mean, have you ever, like, had a friend and then got your feelings kind of mixed up in that friendship? Like, it's hard to have opposite gender friends because you're like, oh my God, how much do I like this person? And then you try out dating and you're like, whoa, I didn't like him that much.
Jeffrey
Did you know that was the case with Carson, that he was friends with that girl first before they tried dating and then it didn't work out?
Brooke
Yeah, they realized that they weren't meant to be together.
Leanne
I mean. No, no. I mean, this is all kind of
Vanessa
like a lot in general, but Good point.
Brooke
Okay.
Carson
Okay.
Brooke
Look at you being a reasonable human. I love it.
Jeffrey
Okay, so. So is that something that would maybe change your mind a little? Possibly seeing him and giving him another chance?
Leanne
Possibly. The radio person? I don't know her name, but like, she did bring up some pretty decent
Brooke
points, so I feel like I didn't deliver that well.
Alexis
Her name is Alexis. Give her all the credit.
Jeffrey
I mean, this all sounds really good to us in the room here, but I bet it sounds even better to Carson, who's been quietly listening on the other line hoping to talk to you.
Leanne
Carson has been listening this whole time?
Brooke
Are you kidding me? I can hear you smiling through the phone.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I think he's there. Carson. Carson.
Carson
Hey. Hey, guys, I'm here.
Leanne
Carson, what are you doing? What are you doing all this for? What is this?
Brooke
Look, they are so cute.
Carson
I felt a connection with you that I haven't felt with anybody, and I really want to try to make this work.
Alexis
That's adorable.
Leanne
That's really sweet to hear that from you. Yeah, it is.
Brooke
See, he's not like those other guys that you dated that were yucky, you know, with their exes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Carson
All right, well, look, I need to be 100% honest with you. We're getting it all out there right now.
Leanne
Okay?
Carson
I do live with. I do live with my ex. That's how I was able to borrow the car.
Pedigree Ad Voice
Brooke.
T-Mobile Legal/Disclaimer Voice
Brooke.
Jeffrey
How dare you support this and say that it was totally innocent and no red flags?
Brooke
Why do you live with her?
Alexis
Yeah, Brooke, he's different, right?
Carson
He's like a sister. It's really not a big deal.
Brooke
A sister that you slept with? Don't do that.
Jeffrey
No, but they're in a good place now. Brooke, you said it yourself.
Caller/Listener
You don't live with your ex.
Brooke
That's like. That feels like you were living together and then you broke up and you never moved out. Did you move in together when you were in a relationship?
Carson
I mean, I don't know. I don't really remember. There was a lot going on. It just kind of happened. I mean, it's like a timeshare situation for us. We split the rent, we rotate the car. It's a good setup.
Leanne
I seriously, like I told you guys, this is all disastrous.
Carson
Leanne, look, trust me when I say this, it's not a disaster.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Alexis
That's a big trouble.
Brooke
That's a famous last words.
Carson
Why don't you come over this weekend?
Keith
We can.
Carson
We can hash it out and. It's my weekend to have the master bedroom.
Brooke
Wait, what? Oh, there's only one bedroom?
Jeffrey
You guys swapped the bed. That's a good living situation.
Carson
Hey, it works for us. Don't judge.
Brooke
Where do you sleep when you don't have the bedroom?
Carson
I mean, the car. That's what it's for.
Jeffrey
A car slash bedroom?
Leanne
You're living in your car?
Carson
Well, only part time.
Jeffrey
And remember, it's her car, not his car.
Brooke
I have a headache. We have. I'm sorry about that whole green flag thing.
Jeffrey
No, it is a green flag. It's a green flag that he is such a good roommate that his ex doesn't even want to let him go. That's how awesome he is to live with.
Brooke
Dude, you share a bed that you guys rotate on the weekends.
Carson
Hold on. We don't share the bed. When she's in it, I'm not. When I'm in it, she's not. We have a calendar. It's set up.
Brooke
The bed calendar.
Caller/Listener
He's an organized community kit. I can't say it, man.
Jeffrey
Even Alexis is coming around on him now, so.
Brooke
Girls love you, bro.
Leanne
I mean, this is a nightmare.
Jeffrey
It could be your nightmare if you say yes to another date with Carson. And we would pay for that date if you're open to it.
Brooke
It will be your nightmare if you say yes.
Alexis
No, it's not gonna be your nightmare until it goes viral.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Leanne
I don't want this to go viral. I don't want to go on another date.
Alexis
Yeah, if you're.
Jeffrey
Oh, no.
Alexis
If you're seeing this on socials, do not comment. Do not like this.
T-Mobile Legal/Disclaimer Voice
This.
Jeffrey
Oh, man, Carson, it's. It sounds like a no from Leanne there.
Carson
Oh, Leanne. You know, you didn't complain when I used the ex's debit card to pay for dinner.
Vanessa
What?
Jeffrey
Wait, you share that too?
Brooke
Get out of here.
Leanne
You never told me that.
Brooke
How would it come up in conversation?
Alexis
Yeah, all right, well. Wow.
Jeffrey
I mean, Carson, you were worried that the problem was that you picked her up in your ex's car and turns out the issue is that you actually swap beds with your exes because you live together.
Brooke
Oh, and your ex pays for everything?
Jeffrey
Well, half of half of the time.
Carson
I mean, when you say it like that, I think I sound like a pretty good dude.
Jeffrey
Oh, God, you're a catch, buddy.

Jeffrey
I mean, dude, how did Carson think that it was okay to withhold that information from us in part one one
Alexis
has he said a lot of information
Jeffrey
Because Brooke literally asked him, what's your relationship with your ex like? And he said, oh, we're still friends. Didn't mention, oh yeah, we share the same master bed off of a rotating calendar would have been a little bit of a different story for us.
Brooke
Sorry, if you have a one bedroom apartment, you can't call it a master bed. It's the only bed.
Alexis
I didn't want the call to end because the more he's kept talking, the more independent he is. He uses her debit card, her car, her house.
Caller/Listener
What else?
Popsicle Ad Voice
Her clothes?
Brooke
No, the same toothbrush.
Jeffrey
Wouldn't be surprised. But honestly, just be truthful with us up front so Brooke doesn't come off looking as bad as she did.
Alexis

Host: iHeartPodcasts
Episode Title: Second Date Update Classics: Floral Intentions + Lipstick Dipstick
Release Date: August 8, 2026
In this classic "Second Date Update" episode, Brooke, Jeffrey, Alexis, and the team tackle two highly entertaining but wildly different dating disasters, both featuring singles ghosted after what seemed to be promising first dates. The first story ("Floral Intentions") follows Vanessa, who nervously re-enters the dating pool after years of marriage and is stunned by her date Keith's claims. The second ("Lipstick Dipstick") features Carson, whose solid date unravels thanks to a surprising discovery and some even messier roommate/ex-girlfriend logistics. As always, the hosts balance humor with genuine attempts to help—and sometimes just to survive the chaos.
"We’ve got a woman who recently cannonballed back into the dating pool and needs a little help from us today... her name is Vanessa."
"In worst case scenario, if I did screw up, I did do something wrong... I can learn from it. It could be a learning moment."
"It's one thing to be trying it out, but she literally suggested... behind [the plant shop] and do things."
"I didn't know I was dating a snowflake."
"Like, we don't even need to talk. But I was wondering if you would critique my profile. I'm new here."
"Okay, it sounds like you feel threatened by the ex girlfriend a little bit."
"Why don’t you come over this weekend? ... It’s my weekend to have the master bedroom."
"You didn't complain when I used the ex's debit card to pay for dinner."
“Floral Intentions + Lipstick Dipstick” is a classic example of "Second Date Update" brilliance—awkward honesty, epic miscommunications, and jaw-dropping reveals delivered with trademark humor and empathy from Brooke, Jeffrey, Alexis, and friends. From botanical garden bombshells to living-with-the-ex logistical gymnastics, this episode is a masterclass in dating surprises and radio comedy.
