Quick question.
Brooke
Speaking of workouts, how would you rate your athletic program? Bro, we're in the middle of the state championship.
Jeffrey
Oh, so like a B plus then?
Brooke
Dude, get out of our huddle. Well, at homes.com we leave it all on the field to get you detailed information on local schools. Off the field.
Jeffrey
Off the field.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Copy.
Jeffrey
All right. Go sports.
Brooke
How did he even get in here. Holmes.com.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Bingo.
Brooke
We've done your homework.
Alexis
Hey, happy Labor Day weekend. It's working. Jeffrey. In the morning, like we do every Saturday. We got a double dose for you on this second date podcast of two classics, back to back, that we hope you enjoy.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Alexis
You know, put on while you're driving or stuck in traffic doing some housework.
Jeffrey
However, just in bed. Not mo. That's a game I like to play.
Alexis
Is that how you like to spend your three day weekend?
Jeffrey
Sometimes it's like, how little can I move? Oh, I gotta scratch my butt. I hate this part.
Alexis
All right, what do you see in the comments, Alexis?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, Benji Wolfe said, I hate this show.
Alexis
I will never listen again until tomorrow. Hey, I like Benji. That's the attitude. We like Benji.
Jeffrey
We like your standards.
Alexis
Yep, that's right. All right, let's get this hated double classic second date started for you right now.
Brooke
We're so jaded that when we hear one of our listeners say they had an extremely intense, intense moment on a date.
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke
We immediately think, oh, God, it's got to be bad.
Alexis
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Brooke
Somebody fought a waiter. They started a fire. Aliens abducted them.
Alexis
Yep.
Brooke
But no, the woman on the phone assured us it wasn't intense bad. It was intense good. So good that it actually left her feeling like she may have met her forever person.
Alexis
Whoa. We on this show.
Brooke
That is intense. You're gonna hear all about the moment in your second date update. Coming up next. Second date update. What's worse than getting ghosted? Should we have a term for that?
Alexis
Getting. Getting deceased.
Brooke
Good. Cryptid.
Alexis
Cryptid.
Brooke
Black holed.
Alexis
I bet these are all terms already that we probably shouldn't Google.
Brooke
Maybe Whatever you call it, that's what our listener Nicole says happened to her because not only did her date block her, he's removed his entire dating profile from the apps. So Nicole got black holed.
Alexis
I think she just got blocked, actually.
Brooke
It really doesn't sound right now that I say it out loud. But, Nicole, either way, welcome to the show.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Thank you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Thank you.
Brooke
I mean, you are very perky for someone who is devastated.
Alexis
I am sorry. Why on earth would you want to get a hold of someone that's blocked you?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
If I did anything wrong, I want to know about it.
Brooke
Okay, interesting. So let's start at the beginning. Tell us about this guy that you met.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Okay, so I met Elijah on a dating app, and Elijah on his dating profile. It was very clear. It literally said, here to find my wife with intentionality.
Alexis
Whoa.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
And wow.
Jeffrey
Okay, so he's not here to just have fun and see what happens. He's like, right.
Alexis
He might already be married.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Oh, my gosh.
Jeffrey
In the two days or weeks or whatever.
Alexis
I thought Alexis was going to break out in hives. You just reading that description of someone?
Brooke
I feel like a lot of women would be turned off by something that strong, but that was appealing to you, Nicole?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, I'm looking for something serious. I want to build a future with someone, so I found it really refreshing. Okay.
Brooke
Okay.
Alexis
That's awesome.
Jeffrey
And that is unique. Nowadays, most people are so vague.
Alexis
It's a lot of pressure going into a first date like that, you know?
Brooke
So you went to Vegas to get hitched for your date. It's fun.
Jeffrey
She showed up in a dress.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I mean, I would be really pissed if we got married on a first date and then never heard from him again and was blocked.
Alexis
Hi.
Jeffrey
Will you call my husband?
Brooke
What did you guys do?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Okay, so we got together and we did something a little different that was really, really fun. Like, neither of us have pets, but we both are animal lovers.
Alexis
Okay.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
So we went to a local dog park, and we just sat and we chatted and we watched dogs and.
Brooke
Did you bring your dog?
Alexis
She doesn't have one.
Brooke
You don't have a dog?
Jeffrey
That's what I was gonna ask you. I have never done that. Can you just show up to a dog park?
Alexis
Yeah, that's the normal park.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
I've never even thought to do that because I don't have a dog.
Alexis
You can also go to a bar where people bring their dog. Like the dog bars.
Brooke
Jose, you're banned from most public space.
Jeffrey
But that's not because of the dogs, okay? That's because of the women.
Alexis
Still, I think this. This is really cute. Cause it does sound like a date that a couple who's been married for 20 years would do. You know what I mean?
Brooke
Instead of people watching, you're dog watching together. So how was it?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
It was really fun. It was great. Like, it was so chill. And then afterwards, we drove around the city, and he found this, like, really cute area. And we pulled over, and he kind of, like, pointed out some things to me that I hadn't known. And we ended up making out in his truck.
Alexis
Oh, my.
Brooke
Okay.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
What was also interesting, which I actually really liked, is, like, he stopped halfway through, like, the makeout session, and he just, like, put his hands around my face in a way that was really sweet. And he said, look, I just want you to know that I'm looking for my wife, and I don't want this to be a one night thing.
Alexis
Whoa, whoa. That's a lot. You could not laugh with someone who's describing such a tender moment.
Brooke
No, I was.
Alexis
You get so uncomfortable. You have such a hard time with emotions.
Brooke
I was laughing at something else. Yeah.
Alexis
Two hands.
Brooke
No, that. That was very sweet. I thought that was very. A nice moment to stop in makeup to do that.
Jeffrey
Both hands, grab both cheeks, bring.
Alexis
Are you missing the wife part?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, I mean, it was nice. I was like, oh, my God, maybe this is my future husband.
Jeffrey
So that moment was special.
Alexis
Yeah, maybe. You guys are perfect for each other.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
I mean, same page.
Jeffrey
That's all that matters.
Brooke
That's true. Everybod in different spaces of dating. If she is ready for this, if this is what you want, Nicole, then we got your back on it.
Alexis
But how messed up that you do that? You say that to someone and then you block her.
Brooke
Well, what happened after that? Did something.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Okay. When we left, he gave me this romantic kiss again. And he was like, look, I'm looking for my forever and I hope it's you.
Alexis
I hope it's you. Yeah, I thought that the whole time it was you. That was the face grab and the stuff.
Jeffrey
Maybe we're reading into it too much.
Brooke
We don't know.
Jeffrey
Like, I really hope you.
Brooke
You.
Jeffrey
It's you.
Alexis
I don't know. It sounds like he's now a host of a reality show.
Brooke
Yeah, we'll find out when we come back from the break and spin the giant wheel of faith. I really hope it's you.
Alexis
It does sound like that.
Jeffrey
Oh, I landed on Jeff.
Brooke
Not again.
Alexis
What is going on?
Brooke
So, okay, how long ago was that date?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
This was about a week and a half ago. And like, I went home after my yoga class and I said specifically, like, oh, I want to see what he's up to, but I don't want to message him. Let me go look on his profile.
Alexis
Yeah.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
And I went on the app and I was like, what the hell? Like, why are we no longer match. Where are all our messages?
Jeffrey
Yeah, the messages are gone as well.
Brooke
Is it in your mind that maybe somebody else has stepped in and like he found. I mean, because people are dating on, like, lots of people on these apps all the time. Maybe he found somebody else.
Alexis
Sounds like me. If someone proposed to him, he'd say yes.
Brooke
Yeah, I've said I love you to a lot of people that I didn't mean it to, so. Well, that's just me, I'm sure. Yeah, I think.
Alexis
And Jeff laughed at himself through the whole thing. He's very uncomfortable with big emotions.
Brooke
Let's figure out where Elijah's head is at, why he took down his dating profile.
Alexis
Yeah, it totally makes sense why you would want answers here.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, I looked up Instagram and I was blocked there. Like, I literally can't see anything.
Brooke
That's not good.
Alexis
Okay, well, bad sign.
Brooke
I hope we don't block you at the end of this either. We'll find out when we come back. Get some answers in your second date update. Right after this second date update, Vegas has set the odds at 9 to 1 that this call ends in a marriage proposal.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Wow.
Alexis
I'm really bad with odds. Is that good or bad? I'm honest. I never know.
Jeffrey
A nine to one should be.
Brooke
Well, I don't really know.
Jeffrey
Probably.
Alexis
You know what, Jeff? I'm not going to bet anymore.
Brooke
The fact that even Vegas is in on this should be kind of shocking because Nicole has asked us to call a guy named Elijah who repeatedly told her that he is not dating casually.
Alexis
He says it a lot. He says it on his dating profile. He says it in real life.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Very intentionally searching for his wife and even stopped mid makeout to grab her face and remind her this frenching isn't for fun. It is a life hunt.
Jeffrey
I'm setting a tone with this tongue.
Brooke
So afterwards, the weird part is that's what he did. The weird thing is afterwards, he blocked Nicole and deleted his entire dating profile.
Jeffrey
Divorce immediately.
Alexis
And for Nicole, it's like, I'm guessing Nicole. Maybe I'm wrong. This is like the most romantic thing that's probably ever happened on a first date, right?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah. I felt like a real connection. I thought to myself, oh, my gosh, like, this guy knows what he wants. And like, I was so hopeful. And then all of a sudden, it's like, how can I not take this personally? Like, not only did he delete the profile, block me on all socials, I don't even know if he's going to answer your number.
Jeffrey
Yeah, well, this is one of those dudes that actions speak louder than words. They'll tell you everything you want to hear, and then they won't follow through and do it.
Alexis
I still feel like that I hope it's you line is just not sitting right with you.
Jeffrey
You feel like it's a line line. Like a real word?
Alexis
No, no. Like it feels almost like there's a job opening and he's trying to fill a position. You know what I mean?
Jeffrey
Like, it's not romantic.
Alexis
Like he's not connecting with you. He's just trying to make this next step. I don't know. Maybe I'm reading too much of it into it.
Brooke
Maybe he found one of those Russian bride websites and he realized how easy it is to do that.
Alexis
So, I mean, wait a minute.
Brooke
I hope that's not the answer, but she loves me.
Jeffrey
I pay her to say, let's call.
Brooke
See if he picks up. And hopefully he has some explanation. Here. I'm dialing his number right now. Let's do this.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Elijah?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, who's this?
Brooke
This is a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. Hey.
Alexis
Hi.
Brooke
And we are a hoot and a half.
Alexis
Oh, my God, please never say that again.
Jeffrey
We are.
Brooke
We're a fun time. Sorry.
Alexis
It's like just when we get popular, we don't own it all.
Brooke
This is what's boosting the ratings. Elijah, are you still there?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, yeah.
Alexis
How we doing?
Jeffrey
Sorry, this is.
Alexis
Yeah, we were doing better till Jeff started talking.
Brooke
All right.
Alexis
But we're. We're here.
Brooke
We're calling with a purpose. It's a segment that we're doing called Second Date Update. That's where listeners can come on our show and we try and help them reconnect with a person they went on a date with that they had a really nice time with. Darn it.
Alexis
Give up. All right, dude, I am so interested in hearing.
Brooke
Yeah.
Alexis
Side of this story because we heard.
Brooke
That you went out with a woman named Nicole about a week ago.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Right.
Alexis
Okay.
Brooke
Yeah.
Alexis
I mean, it sounds like a really good date that you two had. Would you agree with that?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, I mean, it was cool.
Brooke
It was cool. Okay.
Alexis
I.
Brooke
Positive.
Alexis
It is positive. I just didn't. You don't seem like a casual guy.
Jeffrey
From what she explained, less intense than I assumed you'd be.
Brooke
She definitely. Intense is a good word because she said that you were putting it out there a lot. That you were only dating to find a wife for love.
Alexis
I don't know he ever said love. He just said wife.
Jeffrey
Guys, love is a wife.
Alexis
Not hand in hand.
Brooke
Check those. Russian dating. So we heard about that. You're looking for a wife.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
I. I mean, not anymore.
Jeffrey
No way. I found one.
Brooke
Wait, does that mean there's another person?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Well, here's the thing. After the date, I went to a clairvoyant, and I got news that my wife isn't even in this realm.
Alexis
What? Okay.
Brooke
Hold on.
Alexis
I just dropped my pill.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Okay.
Alexis
Because I just can't.
Jeffrey
Okay, hold on. Let's unbox this.
Brooke
What do you mean, the psychic Said your wife is not in this realm.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Right.
Brooke
It makes a lot of sense to me. I get what you're saying, but maybe explain for everybody else.
Alexis
Yeah.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Honestly, I believe that I've married other people in my past lives.
Alexis
Okay.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
And it's constantly the same person, maybe in a slightly different form.
Brooke
Okay, so this same person, your soulmate that's been with you across all your lives, she's not.
Alexis
That's who you're looking for?
Brooke
She's not here.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Nah.
Alexis
Why?
Jeffrey
How do you know, brother? Like, how do you know that the girl you went on a date with isn't?
Alexis
This is clairvoyant. Hold it.
Jeffrey
I know, but. Yeah, looking for. She. Say it's me. Hi, honey. Like, oh, I'm here from the 17.
Alexis
That kind of part of the past lives thing that you don't actually remember. The.
Brooke
Explain it to us.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Thank you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
My clairvoyance said that I found my soulmate in every single dimension. But not this one.
Brooke
She doesn't exist in this one.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
No. That she's not here. Not in this realm.
Alexis
Okay. It doesn't matter where she is. I think this could be good news, actually.
Brooke
Yeah. Because we have a real life woman.
Alexis
Yes.
Brooke
Who feels like she had a strong connection with you.
Jeffrey
She's on round line three.
Alexis
And it sounds like you're freed up in this realm, you know, like you're single kind of permanently in this.
Brooke
Nicole. We're talking about Nicole. Obviously, Nicole felt that connection with you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Okay.
Alexis
What do you mean, okay?
Brooke
That's a good thing.
Alexis
You told her again and again. I'm looking for my wife. I hope it's you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Is this a sign?
Alexis
Is what a sign? Yes. Yes, it is.
Brooke
Look, Nicole felt like you guys had a deep, deep connection. And now you actually have a phone connection to her, too, because she's on the other line waiting to talk to you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
What?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Hi, Elijah.
Brooke
Oh, that's Nicole.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
I know she's on the phone, but my wife's dead.
Jeffrey
Oh, no.
Alexis
From the past life.
Brooke
I thought she wasn't in this realm.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Right, Correct. She never made it here.
Alexis
Okay.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Wait, what?
Alexis
Yeah, exactly. Nicole. So why did you. We never even got to why you blocked Nicole.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Thank you.
Brooke
This is why. Because she's not his wife.
Alexis
But why?
Jeffrey
Leave me alone, lady.
Alexis
Nobody's going to be his wife, though.
Brooke
Are we understanding that?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Right.
Brooke
If you're not looking for your wife, since she's not in the realm, then. Then you're not interested in dating at all.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
I guess some things are better off unexplained. I don't have all the answers.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, you're right. This is definitely unexplainable.
Brooke
Well, I think the explanation makes sense. He was searching for his wife the whole time. But not just anybody. A specific woman from another dimension.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, and you're not just. Clairvoyant is really messing with you. Like, I feel like she is trying to kind of be the only person who can like, access supposedly what your quote unquote truth is. And wow, I might not be your celestial being from a different realm, but I think you're gonna miss out on some really great girls in this realm if you don't give us a real shot.
Alexis
Oh, that was good. That was so well spoken.
Brooke
What do you think about that, Elijah?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
All I heard was that she was talking about my clairvoyant.
Alexis
Who is this guy? Who is this man?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Your clairvoyant can meet me outside.
Brooke
Whoa.
Jeffrey
Wow.
Alexis
Do you want to fight the Clairvoyant?
Brooke
Let's put the wife and the clairvoyant stuff aside.
Alexis
Can we?
Brooke
What about just having fun with Nicole, going out on another date and enjoying this life?
Alexis
I mean, you've got a woman that has heard all of this and still wants to hang out with you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, I mean, I guess.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Did I do something wrong specifically for you to block me?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
You weren't my wife. I don't know how many times I've told you that.
Brooke
Okay?
Jeffrey
He's like, do you not?
Alexis
Maybe I was.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Maybe the clairvoyant is wrong. I mean, I'm just saying, I don't like being rejected. And I also have to say that, like, I think it's just really short sighted. We had a great time.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, well, I know this. My wife didn't talk that much in another lifetime.
Brooke
Well, that's a pretty clear sign.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Oh, my gosh.
Jeffrey
Who else feels like the wife is purposely avoiding him now?
Alexis
Dude. Yeah, the wife wasn't born into this century.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Maybe that's my point in this lifetime. To tell you to be more accepting of your future. Right from another realm.
Alexis
Okay, after that, I know Nicole still.
Brooke
Is fighting for this, so.
Alexis
Elijah, I think she's just fighting.
Brooke
I get that you have doubts about Nicole. What if you and Nicole went to your clairvoyant together and we would pay for the Uber ride? Oh, my God.
Jeffrey
Can we have a phone?
Alexis
Serious.
Brooke
Give it a chance.
Alexis
Would Nicole even do that?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Honestly, I'm just confused and curious as to what the Clairvoyant would tell me about my path.
Alexis
I don't really want to know. It's going to lead you down at Dark trail.
Brooke
I want this to happen. So. Yeah, that's a yes from Nicole. Wow, Elijah, it's up to you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
My clairvoyant is in chief, so if she pays half, then I'm cool with it.
Brooke
All right, Nicole, I'm sure you're down for that.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I mean, hey, if it's on the radio, we can even come back and tell you guys how it goes.
Alexis
I don't know if I want to know.
Brooke
Do we want to know that that's going to be a no from all of us? Hey, it sounds like it's a yes. Elijah and Nicole, you guys are going out together in this realm.
Alexis
I can't wait till we do a second date update from the next realm.
Jeffrey
That's gonna be expensive. Phone bill.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Brooke.

Brooke
Is that literally the only second date update where we actually got a yes but then said we don't need an update? We're good?
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke
That is we don't want to know anymore.
Jeffrey
I cannot remember ever.
Alexis
I am still baffled by that entire conversation. I don't know what was real, who believed what if they were being sincere.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, I'm sorry. Girls asked for commitment. This guy's committed over, what, hundreds of years? The most romantic.
Alexis
Valid point. Valid point. Maybe you were his wife. It'll pass. Life.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
You know what I mean. I'm waiting for you, honey.
Brooke
I do think maybe the missing piece in all of this is. Is it possible Elijah had been smoking something when we called him?
Jeffrey
You know, he sounded like that's his vibe. Like he didn't sound like a big, mysterious person.
Brooke
He was trying to reach the other dimension through different means. Find his wife. Yeah, trying to find his wife that way.
Jeffrey
I don't see her yet.
Brooke
I see a dragon.
Jeffrey
That's not her.
Alexis
I think Alexis was onto something where he actually probably did have a wife, and she just chose not to come back. She's like that. That's not worth coming back again. Yeah.
Brooke
You know, I called it after our 400th marriage. Yeah, it's enough for me. Text in 78592 and make sure you follow us wherever you get your podcast. If it's on Spotify, Apple, wherever. At Brooke and Jeffrey.
Announcer
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Brooke
Feels like every single date ever always includes the same old questions. Where did you grow up?
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke
What are your hobbies?
Alexis
Yep.
Brooke
How many pieces of cantaloupe can you fit in your mouth at the same time?
Jeffrey
That's actually a great question.
Brooke
My record's 19, Jim.
Alexis
Is it sliced? Like, I don't even know how to know.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I don't want to know.
Brooke
I'll show you later. We'll challenge each other.
Alexis
It's the melon balls, isn't it?
Brooke
But while those might seem like pretty tame normal conversation starters, one of our listeners says she divulged a little too much when she was asked about her career aspirations.
Alexis
What?
Brooke
And while her answer was 100% true, he's a hundred percent not calling her back anymore. And you're gonna hear why in your second date update. Right after this second date update, we got an email from one of our listeners named Fran who said she dates a lot.
Alexis
Okay.
Brooke
Probably more than the average person, according to her.
Alexis
Is that. Was that a brag?
Brooke
I don't know if that's a brag. If you're having to go out with lots and lots and lots of people.
Jeffrey
It'S like the obvious opposite problem alone.
Brooke
But she says after 35 dates over the last six months, she thinks she finally found a guy who doesn't totally repulse her.
Jeffrey
Hey, that's good.
Alexis
So her bar is very high.
Brooke
Yeah. Well, and now he's not calling her back. The repulsor becomes the repulsee, and she's on the phone right now. Fran, I love you. You disgust me. Welcome to the show.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Hey, how are you guys?
Alexis
Oh, my God. I feel like you're proof that when people say you just got to put yourself out there, that it doesn't actually always work.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you put yourself out there a.
Brooke
Lot for years and years and years. Tell us about the guy that you recently met.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Okay, so I met this guy through the way. We always hate meeting people. Online dating.
Alexis
Yeah, for sure.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
His name is Tommy.
Alexis
Okay.
Brooke
Okay.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
He was so handsome. And, you know, but you see a ton of people online that are attractive, and you kind of don't think anything of it. But I look through his photos, and he had this one photo of him with two cats that were his cats.
Brooke
Aww.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
It was really sweet because guys are always posting photos of, like, dogs or, like, when they're fishing and all this other stuff, and it was just really sweet to see something that wasn't that.
Brooke
He posted a totally different animal. This guy's a keeper.
Alexis
I don't know.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Kinda.
Alexis
Yeah. A cat guy. It just screams. He's sensitive, he's in tune. He's not. Like, there's no toxic masculinity stuff happening there.
Brooke
Oh, like, if it was a tiger cat, that would be a red flag cat.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
That's a green one.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
So, you know, we had some really cute banter back and forth, and finally he kind of dropped the scent, like, oh, you know, I make these really amazing homemade enchiladas. I know, I know. And he was just like, you know, how would you feel if I made dinner for you and you came over?
Alexis
Did it feel too good to be true already? He's hot. He's got cats. He cooks for you.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Honestly, kind of. But, you know, you also have that thing where you're like, well, maybe 27 or 80 times the charm, whatever we're at now. And so you're like, we'll see.
Alexis
I like your eternal optimism on the date. You know, like, to go out on that many dates and keep trying, you.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Kind of have to be. Because I think if you get too jaded, that's not attractive to people either.
Jeffrey
You know, that's true too. That's probably where I'm at.
Brooke
I'm guessing you RSVP'd yes to the enchilada date.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I did. So, you know, I went over there. Really cute place. Clean. Another plus.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Oh, wow.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
So he makes these enchiladas, and I'm Watching him cook. There's something so sexy about watching a man cook. And when he knows his way around the kitchen.
Alexis
I really like it when they throw a towel, like, over the side of their shoulder. That's like a thing for me.
Brooke
Oh, yeah. And the big chef hats. Sexy.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
No, but I will take an apron, though.
Alexis
An apron is good. A hat is not good, Joe.
Brooke
Okay, I'll get rid of mine.
Alexis
Hair net either. You don't need a hairnet.
Jeffrey
Oh, what about the big fake mustache?
Brooke
Swedish chef style.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Okay.
Alexis
What was the vibe like, the conversation?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
So it was good. Like, our banter online was pretty much the same in person, which is always nice. You know, it wasn't awkward. And we're chatting back and forth and of course, inevitably, it always comes to the same question, which is, you know, what do you do for a living? And the thing is, I work in insurance. That is not a sexy thing to talk about. It's boring.
Brooke
What are you talking about? Insurance is hot. I can show you a 20 page document, you have to sign on the.
Alexis
Bottom, all in 9 font. So you told him insurance?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah. Well, if I'm feeling out and the vibe is good, I'll usually be pretty honest and be like, my day job is insurance, but I'm also an author and I'm working on a book right now.
Brooke
Oh, that is better. You're right.
Alexis
And that's true, right?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
It is true. Yes. But the problem is they always say, well, what are you working on now? And I am really honest about it. This is true. I'm working on a collection of all of the worst dates that I've been on.
Alexis
Oh.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
You know, it's slightly relatable. I have a lot of comedian friends, and it's hard to date because girls immediately go, oh, I don't want to end up in one of your jokes on stage.
Alexis
Yeah, totally.
Jeffrey
This would be like, I don't want to end up in one of your books.
Alexis
Then don't mess it up.
Jeffrey
Well, that's a lot of pressure, Brooke. It's easy to mess up.
Brooke
Is that the vibe of what happened with Tommy?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, it really kind of derailed. And, you know, we finished dinner. Dinner was great still. But this is the thing I usually will do, too. It's like, I don't want to put too much pressure on somebody, especially if you're, like, invited to their home or whatever. So I made plans already to go and meet up with my friends after. We had dinner in a bar. And so. And I told them that. I said, you're More than welcome to come hoping that he would.
Alexis
But you're more than welcome to come. Isn't always a full invite. It feels like a pity invite.
Jeffrey
I feel like, you know, would like to be invited like that. You know, like, for me, it's like it doesn't. I don't feel pressure where it's like, shoot, now if I say no, I'm rejecting her.
Alexis
It's interesting.
Jeffrey
It's kind of like, oh, you know what? I don't think this time, but maybe next time.
Alexis
What did he say?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Oh, he said no. Yeah. And it was really weird and like, we had this really awkward hug goodbye and I. And I really liked him a lot. And yeah, I really just want some clarity because I feel like this is a thing that you can't be mad at somebody so. For working on something well before you ever met.
Alexis
Well, I mean, does it have anything to do with him?
Brooke
I mean, what. What was his reaction? Because you seem to think that this was the main part of the night where things started to go downhill. Like, tell us more about how Tommy reacted when you told him about the book.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I got a vibe from him that he just started to, like, internalize and be like, oh, well, is that why she's on a date with me? Is she really interested in me? Or is this research, you know?
Alexis
Well, you should tell him you're past the research stage. That was three months ago. You're well into the second edit of this thing.
Jeffrey
When he reject you should have just pulled out a notebook and been like.
Brooke
Well, looks making a footnote of this.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Thanks for chapter 24.
Brooke
Well, we'll see once and for all, if he does end up in your.
Alexis
Book, can we be in the book?
Brooke
I don't want to be in that book. Why did you want to be? It's the worst experiences.
Jeffrey
You know what? I'm probably already in her book.
Alexis
Twice, actually.
Brooke
We'll come back and we're going to call Tommy me and see if we can get you another date with him when we do your second date update. Next second date update. Top 3 worst things you could say to a guy on a first date. Okay, I'm not who I said I was. Your dad was better.
Jeffrey
Oh, dang.
Alexis
Truth hurts.
Brooke
I'm a New York jets fan.
Jeffrey
Oh, boo.
Brooke
Yikes.
Jeffrey
You just love me. Mediocrity.
Alexis
Do those exist, though? Like, they don't really exist.
Brooke
They're too embarrassed to admit it. But also not a great idea to tell a guy. I'm currently writing a book about the worst dudes I've ever gone out with.
Jeffrey
That's pretty dang bad, bro.
Alexis
Is it bad, though? I mean, it's your first date with her. You think so too?
Brooke
It plays off of a guy's insecurities, which are many. And that's exactly what Frank Fran said when she was out with Tommy the other night while he was making her enchiladas. That moment kind of derailed their entire night.
Alexis
But he was a guy that had cats in the photo of his dating profile. He shouldn't have had insecurities. What? You know she understands what I'm saying, right?
Brooke
Does that make sense to you, Fran?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I mean, yeah, I thought he was more in touch with that stuff.
Alexis
Oh, see, huh?
Jeffrey
Get a cat. Perfect.
Alexis
It's just like the vibe of cat dudes give off. Like, I'm stable. I know who I am. Huh.
Jeffrey
Really give you a mental checklist before you buy a cat?
Alexis
I'm saying that's the vibe.
Jeffrey
That's the vibe. Okay, okay, I'll accept that.
Brooke
Okay. Nothing toxic about what Brooke just said.
Jeffrey
I don't think Jeff is accepting it, though.
Brooke
Shouldn't have insecurities. All right, let's see if he agrees with that sentiment when we call him right now. You ready to do this, Fran?
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Let's do it.
Jeffrey
I hope one of the cats answer.
Brooke
Let's give it a try.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Tommy?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Uh, yes.
Brooke
You an insecure boy, Tommy?
Alexis
What? Why did you say that?
Brooke
I want to see what you thought.
Alexis
No, I thought he wasn't Tommy.
Jeffrey
Sorry, sorry. We already were having a discussion before we called you.
Brooke
Yeah, it spilled over into this phone call. We're a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yo, why are you calling me?
Brooke
Good question. We're doing this segment called A Second Date Update, and one of our listeners asked us to reach out to you because you two hung out the other night. Remember Fran?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, yeah, I do.
Alexis
He cooked enchiladas for her, we heard, which is a pretty awesome move.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
How do you know all this?
Brooke
This is straight from Fran's mouth. Well, Fran's mouth to my ears. To my mouth.
Alexis
Why are you making everything so strange today? Fran told us is what he's trying to say.
Brooke
Those are the words I was looking for.
Alexis
Yeah, because she's. She likes you.
Brooke
She likes you and she wants to see you again and is confused why it hasn't happened yet.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Well, I mean, just being honest, it was. It was a little weird.
Brooke
Oh, weird.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Okay, well, here's the deal, man. Like, we get emails all the time from people asking us to do these for them. And Fran admitted that she's dated a lot of people and you stood out among all the guys. You were different, and she really, really liked you. And she also wishes that she didn't bring up the book that she was writing.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Well, okay, so that's the thing. I mean, it was going fine, you know, it was. She seemed nice enough. You know, it was a fine date. And then she brings up this book and it's like, I mean, it's so weird. Like, am I just content for you to put your book, like.
Alexis
But she wouldn't tell you about the book if she thought you were going to be in it. Like, she just sharing what's going on in your life. Her life. And she had already written about all the other bad dates. She was really thought she was on a good date with you.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah, okay, but here's the thing. So then I'm like, okay, this is kind of weird, but maybe it's fine, you know, maybe this doesn't include me. But then I was like, hey, so what are some of the bad dates that you went on?
Alexis
Yeah, that's good.
Brooke
Showing interest.
Jeffrey
Good question. Then you know what not to do.
Alexis
Well, and I'm sure she has, like, some big stories that she made bigger just to make the book entertaining too, right?
Brooke
Did she tell you or did she keep it a secret? You have to buy the book to find out.
Alexis
She only read the first 20 sentences.
Brooke
And then you have to purchase the cliffhanger.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
She told me a few and she said they were 100% real, that she didn't embellish. Okay, but one of them, she was like, oh, man, it was so terrible. I, like, went. Had this date with this guy and he just wanted to play board games all night.
Alexis
Okay.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Like, we went back to his place and he had Monopoly and he had Scrabble and it was just like an endless, like, that's all he wanted to do.
Jeffrey
What do you want this date to last three days?
Alexis
Not really book worthy. That was her horror story.
Brooke
So what's the problem with that?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Well, the thing is, is that I kind of had a whole night planned. And after dinner, like, what's in my living room? A couple of board games play.
Alexis
Oh, I see. So it just derailed your. Okay, okay.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Then I had to make excuses to, like, sneak over to the living room and, like, hide the games I had.
Jeffrey
I guess we're not gonna play Connect four tonight.
Alexis
I bet that that's not what she meant. I bet it's not that she didn't Want to play board games? It's just that maybe this guy had literally hours of it playing or something or was, like, really competitive in a dumb way, you know?
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Yeah. I mean, maybe. But then she was also like, I've been on, like, so many dates where, like, guys have tried to cook for me and just, like, totally burnt the food.
Alexis
Oh.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
And I'm like, in the middle of cooking while she says this. So then I'm like, oh, my God, if I don't get these enchiladas perfect, I'm gonna get ripped about. And I'm like, it was just very stressful and not fun.
Brooke
Okay.
Alexis
I mean, I could see how her stories, you could interpret them to be about you. I don't think that it wasn't her intention, though.
Brooke
Yeah. And you don't have to just believe us telling you that. You can hear it straight from Fran's mouth. Why do I keep saying it like that? Because she's on the other line right now, wants to talk to you, man.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Oh, my God, that's Fran in her mouth.
Alexis
Yeah.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Go ahead.
Brooke
Friends mouth say stuff.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Hey, Tommy, first of all, I'm sorry.
Alexis
That's a good start.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Everything that you said is true, and you had asked, and I just thought it would be like, they were kind of funny and silly, and I just thought it would be fine to kind of talk about it. But I can see how that would send somebody kind of into their head.
Brooke
Tommy, are you hearing her?
Alexis
No. He's in his head.
Brooke
Yeah.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
I don't know. It's just like a little. I mean, I don't know how you want me to feel about that. You know, just like. I feel like it's like, all right, sweet. Put a ton of pressure on me, like, on this first date when I don't know you. You know.
Alexis
Right.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Listen, first of all, I had no idea about the board games, and I'm sorry if you felt like you had to hide stuff. And to be clear, the board game guy tried to explain Settlers of Catan to me for an hour, and I just couldn't handle it.
Brooke
Okay, but it's not that you hate any board games as a date night. It was just with that particular guy. Right.
Alexis
Be careful. Talking about.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah. When somebody the.
Brooke
Yeah, you're down to Scrabble with Tommy.
Alexis
Maybe Scrabble's one of the worst games. So. Fun game. Something else.
Brooke
Okay.
Alexis
What you want? Mouse trap. Yeah.
Jeffrey
Play some Operation Hungry Hungry Hippos can turn.
Alexis
No, they. No, it can't, Jose.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
For me, I've. I've actually Never played Hungry Hungry Hippos.
Alexis
So it is the worst game. It is so dumb. I'm sorry.
Brooke
Fun for the whole family.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I mean, honestly, as somebody who talked about not liking board games, I really like that game. Okay, like 4v1.
Alexis
Brook. Okay, all right, fine.
Brooke
I, I really. Tommy, I'm, I'm gonna take Fran's side here. I really don't think you need to feel, like, insecure about her, you know? Worst people I've ever Dated book.
Jeffrey
Just don't read chapter 14.
Alexis
Maybe her second book can be about how her dating life turned into a relationship, and that could be starring you. Nobody wants to read that. Okay.
Brooke
I'm writing a worst Co Workers I've ever had book, and no one in this room is in it, so you don't need to feel insecure about that at all.
Alexis
I, I don't. Because.
Brooke
Keep talking.
Alexis
You might make your way just by comparison, but I really think you should.
Brooke
Give Fran another shot here, Tommy. And if you're willing to go out with her, we'll pay for that date.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
Look, I, I, I was having a good time.
Alexis
Oh, good.
Caller (Elijah or Tommy)
If I can just maybe just get a promise that she's not going to write about me, that would be amazing.
Alexis
Really juicy chapter that she'd have to leave out.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
I'll tell, I'll tell you what, Tommy. I will do you one better. I will write about this, except I will take full responsibility and be the bad date.
Brooke
Does that mean you're using us as content to be in your book?
Alexis
Oh, I think I have to call my agent first.
Jeffrey
Put me in.
Alexis
I'm sure that there's a cut that we're supposed to get.
Listener (Nicole or Fran)
Yeah, too late. I already have the chapter outlined.
Brooke
Okay, well, I'm starting a new book. Worst Listeners I've ever Talked to. But congratulations, you guys. We're gonna send you on Amazon.
Alexis
Keep us updated, okay? And let us know how when the book's published as well.
Brooke
And who wins. Hungry Hungry Hippos, too.
Jeffrey
That's gonna be good.
Alexis

Podcast: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update | iHeartPodcasts
In this "Second Date Update Classics" double feature, Brooke, Jeffrey, Alexis, and the crew revisit two memorable second date sagas: "I Hope It's You" and "Fran-Fiction." Both stories center on listeners who were ghosted after promising first dates and want the truth—and maybe a second chance. True to the segment's tradition, the crew's comedic commentary and candid insights add layers of humor and relatability to the real-life dating challenges. The episode delivers both romance-gone-wrong and unexpectedly sweet moments, proving sometimes the real entertainment comes in seeking closure.
Nicole reached out after a magical first date with Elijah, who professed he was “looking for his wife” and delivered intense romantic lines—only to then block Nicole everywhere and delete his dating profile.
After 35 dates in six months, Fran believes she finally met a non-repulsive match in Tommy—until he stopped returning calls. The crew tries to uncover if Fran’s “career” as an author of bad date stories scared him off.
This "Second Date Update Classics" delivers two very different but equally entertaining stories of post-date confusion and attempt at closure. Whether you prefer your dating drama with mystical dimensions or meta self-awareness, the Brooke and Jeffrey team ensures every awkward moment gets the comic (and occasionally tender) treatment it deserves.
