Jeffrey
here on Saturday, which means you get a back to back classics episode. Thank you so much for joining us on the second date podcast, the official one. And good luck to Argentina and to Spain. Or am I allowed to say that, Alexis?
Alexis
I know I'm. You know, I'm team Argentina. I have been. My friend has had me sat. I have had to read and learn the lyrics of all their chants. Right now, let me tell you, there's a new one every game.
Jeffrey
Are you learning them in Spanish or in English?
Ari
Both.
Alexis
I have to know the translations, apparently, to really understand the meaning.
Jeff
I see.
Alexis
But I just know the rhythm right now.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Alexis
Kind of just more like I'm going for Spain.
Ari
I like it.
Jeffrey
I love it.
Danielle Fischl
Let's go, Spain.
Jeffrey
Let's go World Cup.
Alexis
Yes. Well, I picked this comment before I realized it's not from either of the countries we're talking about. But Serena Tucker said, I live in Tahiti. It's in the Pacific Ocean and next to Bora Bora. Yeah, I've also lived in Bora Bora. And Brooke, if you ever come to Tahiti, please let us know. Oh, just Brooke, apparently. Thanks, Serena.
Jeffrey
I'll book a trip now. Yes. That sounds glorious, dude. And to have a local to be able to show you around, that's brag about it, Brock.
Danielle Fischl
We're not invited.
Jeffrey
Yeah, come on, let me talk about it more. All right, let's get to these back to back classics.
Brooke
Right now, all it takes is one innocent question from a stranger to totally ruin the vibe on a first date. For example, if your waiter looks at you dead in the eye and says, wait, aren't you that guy from the hemorrhoids commercial? I mean, it's not good even though you are famous. I was really good in that commercial. Still not a good look. One of our listeners says a deafening silence happened after an awkward question from their waiter, and now she's not getting a call back after, you're gonna hear what it was in your second date update right after this.
Morning Show Host
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning Second date update.
Brooke
You know, in all the years that we've done this segment, we've had a few listeners call up saying, I know that we only hung out once, but I'm pretty sure they're the one.
Jeffrey
Oh, my gosh.
Brooke
We've had other people say, I am ready to marry this person right now.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's not a red flag.
Danielle Fischl
I'm on the phone.
Jeffrey
That's a little too much. Yep.
Brooke
But rarely do we have people email and tell us I want a date, even though I'm not 100% sure I really want to go out with Them again.
Jeffrey
Okay, well, I mean, even if they don't tell us, most of them are thinking that, you know.
Kalpen (Kal Penn)
Sure.
Brooke
But it's a little bit confusing to me. So we're just going to get the listener on the phone who said that to us today. Her name is Ari. Welcome to the show. You do realize this is second date update, not second date.
Danielle Fischl
Maybe.
Victor
I don't know.
Brooke
We'll see how I feel by the end of the call, Right?
Morning Show Host
Hi.
Ari
Yes, I do understand.
Danielle Fischl
Okay, so you're committed.
Jeffrey
I mean, are we just calling this person because they rejected you? Like, let's be honest for a second.
Ari
No, it's not even like that. Like, I like this guy.
Brooke
Okay, well, tell us a little bit about him. What's his name? How'd you meet?
Ari
So his name is Victor. I met him online and he really looked so nice. He had a really nice beard.
Danielle Fischl
Oh, I'm so jealous of dude with beards.
Jeffrey
I love a good beard.
Danielle Fischl
It's just Jeff looking at you.
Franklin
I know.
Brooke
Of course she brought it up because I'm in here.
Jeffrey
That's not what I meant to him when you said it.
Brooke
I know the winks were a little bit aggressive, but that's okay.
Ari
Okay.
Alexis
God.
Discover Card Advertiser
Anyway.
Jeffrey
So uncomfortable.
Brooke
Clearly you're not alone, Ari. So good beard stuck out to you.
Ari
Yes, yes, it was really nice. So we went on three dates.
Jeffrey
Three.
Brooke
Three.
Jeffrey
Hey, you're already breaking the rules.
Danielle Fischl
Second date.
Jeffrey
So now there's a fourth date update, actually today.
Grainger Advertiser
Wow.
Ari
Okay, well, listen, the first two, they went really well. Okay, so what you do.
Jeffrey
Just real quick, are you doing coffee or what?
Ari
So the first day we showed up in matching outfits First.
Brooke
Oh, on purpose?
Jacob Goldstein
Yeah.
Ari
No, this was like. It was an accident.
Jeffrey
That's.
Alexis
So was it like jeans and a plain T shirt or like something crazy?
Ari
It was like white tops, brown bottoms and white shoes.
Danielle Fischl
Couples will dress alike. That is good chemistry.
Jeffrey
Like, you naturally have the same sense. You're on the same wavelength.
Ari
That's what I thought.
Brooke
The room thinks this is a good thing. Okay. What were you doing for your date?
Ari
Oh, so like, we just went for a drink.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Ari
It was a really good time. So he's like, look, let's go for a second one.
Victor
Right.
Ari
So we did something fun again. Just drinks, nothing too heavy.
Brooke
Oh, so you basically went on the same date twice?
Jeffrey
The same good date twice, just with different outfits.
Brooke
Both.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah.
Ari
Yeah.
Brooke
Unless you guys decided to wear the exact same one for date number two again. Because the first one went so well.
Danielle Fischl
How am I going to find you in the Restaurant.
Ari
We were just wearing different clothes on it.
Jacob Goldstein
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay, so that one obviously went well because there was a third date, right?
Jacob Goldstein
Yeah.
Ari
Yeah. So we decided to go a little more upscale for the third date.
Jeffrey
That's the right timing.
Ari
Yeah, we did dinner at this fancy restaurant. It was really nice.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Okay, so how did date three go once you got to this nice restaurant?
Ari
So, like, I had got there first. And in order, you know, to get seated, you have to have a credit card on file with the host. So I put my credit card down so we wouldn't lose the table.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Ari
You know, he was running a little late.
Danielle Fischl
Okay.
Ari
Uh.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's nice.
Brooke
Well, that's not nice nice that he's late.
Kalpen (Kal Penn)
What?
Brooke
That's a bad move.
Jeffrey
Well, I mean, it's a third date. Like, things happen, right? Like, maybe got caught at work or
Danielle Fischl
something super late or, like, normal.
Brooke
Four hours later when he finally showed up, how did it go?
Ari
No, it wasn't that late. It was like he was about, like, 15 to 20 minutes.
Jeffrey
Okay, so you're still feeling good?
Ari
Yeah, everything is fine. And then, like, the bill comes, and the waiter's like, hey, should I just go ahead and run the credit card that's on file?
Jeff
Uh.
Brooke
Oh, that's your card?
Jeffrey
Yeah. What happened?
Ari
Well, like, he just looking, like, stupid.
Brooke
The waiter or Victor, you're dead.
Jeffrey
I think Victor.
Danielle Fischl
Victor. Because he's confused.
Jeffrey
Is he confused or is he trying not to hear it? Like, I don't know.
Ari
Yeah, he's making it awkward because he's very, like, hesitant, and he knows that my card is on fire.
Brooke
He does know he's defaulting to you, I guess, to be like, it's your card. You get to make the decision.
Alexis
Did you pay for the last two dates? Because then I could kind of see it.
Danielle Fischl
Oh, that's a good question.
Ari
He paid for them, but, I mean, he's the guy, so.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah, traditional guys would go, oh, no way. Give me that bill.
Alexis
But after a few days, it's different.
Jeffrey
And she's the one that put the credit card down. I would think that you're telling me that you're wanting to pay.
Brooke
So what happened?
Ari
So because things is just so weird and awkward, and the waiter just standing there looking at both of us, I'm like, well, just go ahead and run my car. Okay.
Brooke
Okay.
Ari
Once the waiter walked away, he was like, well, your card is already on
Morning Show Host
file, so, you know, we should just
Ari
make it less of a headache for the waiter.
Jeffrey
He didn't say thank you?
Ari
No.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Danielle Fischl
Oh, yeah.
Ari
And the Bill. The bill was over $200.
Danielle Fischl
Oh, it's a nice place.
Brooke
Oh, okay.
Ari
But I'm like, whatever. I'm like, I'm not tripping about it. Okay, but like, after that date, we haven't really been talking as much. Like, at first, I felt like he's really putting a pressure on me and keeping in contact. I'm like, when going to see you again? Type of thing. But, like, since that day, everything slowed down a lot, and I really don't know why.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay, that's weird, because you paid. Like, it feels like.
Brooke
Yeah. So going back to the beginning of this call, is that why you were saying? Because of the whole bill situation? Maybe you're not 100% sure you really want to see him again for another date?
Ari
Yeah, and if he doesn't want to see me again, I feel like he needs to run me my money. Like he needs to pay for half of the day.
Jeffrey
Oh, wow, his half. Okay.
Alexis
He should. There's Venmo Teasy in there.
Jeffrey
Seriously, you can't say that if like. Like a guy can't come back and say you didn't go out. I mean, if you're never gonna see
Alexis
him again, what's the harm in asking?
Jeffrey
You know, Alexis, if you dude ask you that, you'd be so upset.
Alexis
But I would do it. Cause I can't say no.
Brooke
Doesn't have it in her. But if he says yes, then you don't care about the bill situation?
Jeffrey
Oh, God, yes.
Ari
If he say yes, I don't care because it's like, we'll probably go to more fancy restaurants and then he'll pay.
Brooke
All right, well, we're gonna see how this goes when we call to get you your second date update and maybe half of your money back.
Jeffrey
Hey, debt collector, right after this, Brooke
Morning Show Host
and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
We're in the middle of a second date update. And if this doesn't go well with Victor. Yes, we may need to go full godfather on him.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's the music.
Victor
I see.
Jeffrey
Wait, I haven't seen these movies. Explain.
Jeff
It's Jeffrey from the second date. I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse.
Jeffrey
That's pretty good, Jeff.
Jeff
Either you pay the nice woman, or we can make it real uncomfortable for you, send you a gift card to Applebee's with half of the balance gun. Could put.
Ari
I don't know.
Brooke
It's actually the worst thing that we could do in this situation. Give a half used gift card to somebody. It's just disrespectful do you have an
Jeffrey
old Italian monster living inside your body?
Alexis
Is that actually good?
Brooke
I'm not going to tell you where my body's at. We can't really threaten Ari's date here. But if he says he does not want to see her again, Ari wants to ask him to pay her back for half of the bill from their final date because it was at this nice upscale restaurant. He kind of stuck her with it.
Jeffrey
Yeah, so kind of.
Jeff
Kind of.
Brooke
It was a little awkward at the
Jeffrey
end, like, don't you think, Ari, that he thought you wanted to pay?
Ari
Absolutely not. He should have never thought that.
Jeff
Oh, he showed you disrespect. And it's not okay.
Alexis
Okay. We hyped you too much.
Jeffrey
You lost. I think it's the. You need the music.
Brooke
Yeah, we're going to call Victor here. Hopefully we can avoid all of that. And he just says, yes, he would love to see you again. It's all a big misunderstanding, but I'm going to dial his number right now. Here we go.
Victor
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Victor?
Victor
This is Victor. How you doing?
Jeffrey
Oh.
Brooke
Oh, you're so. You're so polite. I'm good.
Danielle Fischl
I'm really good.
Jeffrey
I'm good too, Victor.
Danielle Fischl
Thanks for asking. What about you, Alexis?
Alexis
I don't think he cares.
Brooke
Yeah, sorry to confuse you, but you're on a radio show right now.
Franklin
Okay, all right.
Victor
About what?
Jeffrey
For what you said.
Danielle Fischl
You said about what?
Victor
Comedy.
Troy Millings
Good question.
Brooke
How do you feel about us setting you up on a hot date with a sexy woman that you've already been out with multiple times?
Jeffrey
Why did your voice get deeper and deeper?
Brooke
Because I wanted it to sound enticing.
Victor
All right, I'm interested to tell you
Morning Show Host
more
Brooke
because there is a woman who has gone through us to reach you and her name is Ari.
Victor
Oh, yeah, I remember her.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I hope so. You guys went on three dates together?
Victor
Yeah, we went a couple days together. We had a good time.
Jeffrey
Okay, okay, so this is sounding positive.
Brooke
We're trying to help Ari feel this out and get a vibe of where your relationship with her is at. Not that it's a relationship, but just she wants to see more of you and it hasn't happened and she's not sure why.
Jeffrey
It feels like the momentum has stopped a little bit.
Victor
Yeah, but I'm for my options. I mean, I'm new to the city, so I wanted to, you know, date a little bit, so I want to see who's in the city. But she's still, you know, in the fold.
Jeffrey
She's still in the fold.
Jeff
Okay.
Danielle Fischl
And of course you're not going to tell her that, like, hey, sorry, I'm not hitting you up. I'm going on a lot of dates.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah, of course.
Victor
Of course not.
Danielle Fischl
I mean, you're.
Brooke
You're allowed to do. How many women are in the. Are in your fold?
Victor
I've been on maybe two other dates, probably.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's not too bad. Okay. That seems normal.
Brooke
So you're not completely cutting her out. It's just you're also opening yourself up to other possibilities.
Victor
Yeah, well, I guess for my options in the city.
Danielle Fischl
You're scouting the roster.
Brooke
Maybe it gives a little bit of clarity.
Jeffrey
It doesn't feel great to deliver that news to her.
Brooke
Yeah, because what we do have to deliver it.
Jeffrey
I mean, this is the awkward part.
Brooke
Yeah. Victor, the part that you might not know about this is that Ari is actually already on this phone call, listening, waiting to talk to you.
Victor
You make this phone call right now? Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah, that's what I meant when I said this call.
Victor
Okay.
Jeffrey
So, yeah, I'll just, like, assessing the damage right now.
Brooke
I think you're okay. Let's ask Ari. Are you there?
Ari
Yeah, I'm here. Hey, Victor.
Victor
Hey, Art. How you doing?
Ari
Oh, I'm doing great. But, yeah, like, I heard everything that you said.
Victor
Yeah, so, I mean, like I said, we went on a couple days, had a great time. I'm still new to the city, so I'm exploring my options, seeing what's out there.
Jeffrey
Okay, you're gonna say it again?
Ari
Yeah, like you already said that. You keep saying it over and over. Nervous or something?
Victor
Yeah, I'm not nervous at all.
Danielle Fischl
Oh, you're nervous?
Franklin
No.
Ari
Okay, well, you should be. You should be nervous because I'm. I'm not with. None of that, like, I'm not part of your starting lineup, buddy. I don't know what you think you got going on here, but, like, we've been on three dates, so you should have, like, some type of idea, like, whether you want to take this farther or not. I don't care about you being new to a city. Like, I'm not one of your little flings. I don't move like that.
Brooke
I mean, how many dates does it take for you, Victor, to decide whether or not, like, it's the real deal with somebody?
Victor
I don't have to answer that. I mean, it takes the amount of time it takes me to fill a person out, so I really don't have to answer that.
Brooke
I'm trying to help Ari. She just feels like she's waiting forever.
Jeffrey
Well, I don't know about forever. I think she's just saying three days. You need to know.
Ari
Come in. The names of the girls you've been dating. Who are they? I might know them names.
Alexis
Nope, never do names. Never show instas either.
Brooke
Okay, maybe just addresses or something.
Jeffrey
What a welcome to our city, right?
Brooke
We're really nice here. I promise.
Danielle Fischl
We got a lot of people. People to date.
Jeffrey
The dating scene is totally cool.
Ari
Victor, you're not saying anything. What are the girl's names?
Victor
I don't need to tell you that information. That's my information. Like I said, I'm exploring out in the city. I had a great time with you, bro.
Danielle Fischl
You're saying it again. He's like reading the script at this point.
Ari
I feel like that's a BS excuse. I feel like that's a BS excuse.
Jeffrey
Do you think that he's just trying to cover, like maybe he just doesn't like you that much or something already? I don't mean it in a mean way.
Danielle Fischl
You may be trying to be nice.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Ari
Yeah. Or maybe he just wanted a free meal that night because I paid, remember?
Danielle Fischl
I knew this was coming.
Jeffrey
Here we go.
Ari
Since you don't want to like, you don't really care, like going on the date or whatever, I'm fine with that. You need to go ahead and pay me a path for that dinner. So you need to go ahead and like Venmo me half of that bill. I have to receipt if you need me to text you a picture of it. And you could put it down the middle and send me your half.
Victor
Okay. I can say the same thing for you. I paid for the drinks for the first two days, so why don't you send me that money back too?
Morning Show Host
Drink.
Victor
And then.
Morning Show Host
I've seen 100 different things, honey drinks.
Ari
And a whole steak meal appetizer. You had a four course meal. Onion.
Victor
You had four lemon drops on the first date.
Morning Show Host
What are you talking about?
Danielle Fischl
4.
Alexis
Damn, that's a headache.
Brooke
And that's a classy drink too.
Alexis
No wonder it was a nice date.
Jeffrey
I appreciate that she's doing all the work for us, so.
Brooke
Sugar on the rim too.
Danielle Fischl
Do you see the point here? It's okay if you're asking, but not okay if he's asking.
Ari
Oh, no, it's definitely okay if I'm asking. He's a man. A real man. Wouldn't even have let me pay. You should have pulled out your credit card. Let's start there.
Victor
Oh, I mean, the reason why you pulled your credit card out is because I got there late. I was stuck in a little traffic getting there. But at the same time, I mean, I thought you were paying for dinner. Cuz I paid for the drinks on the first two dates, so it seemed
Jeffrey
like it was, but. But you didn't even say thank you afterwards.
Victor
I'm sure I said thank you afterwards. We had a little, you know, situation in the parking lot afterwards. I gave her a nice little kiss, said thank you and kept it moving.
Danielle Fischl
A kiss is a thank you, isn't it?
Ari
No. Depends how we got running. Me my money back would be a thank you.
Commercial Disclaimer Voice
Ok.
Jeffrey
I don't think she's going to drop it.
Jeff
She's pretty.
Brooke
She's pretty strict. She wants the money back. So do you want to give your Venmo out right now?
Ari
No.
Danielle Fischl
Do it all.
Victor
No, I'm not giving my Venmo.
Brooke
Are you sure? Okay. Well, I guess you do really well.
Ari
Guess what? This city isn't that big. I'll see you around, buddy.
Morning Show Host
Godfather.
Danielle Fischl
Godfather.
Jeff
We need you to make an offer.
Danielle Fischl
He was unprepared.
Jeff
Olive.
Victor
God, no.
Jeffrey
This is not.
Alexis
Sounded like the Godfather having a stroke.
Jeffrey
Jeff,
Jeff
we got all the breadsticks that you can put in your mouth if you're willing to go out one more time and that we on our tab.
Alexis
Victor.
Jeffrey
You want to go out again?
Victor
Ari, it was nice meeting you, but I'm never paying you that money back.
Alexis
Oh.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Morning Show Host
Okay, that's fine.
Ari
That's cool. I'm not gonna trip.
Morning Show Host
But. Hey, ladies.
Ari
Victor, don't date him.
Morning Show Host
Don't date him.
Jeff
Cause if you do, we're gonna have to break some kneecaps.
Jeffrey
Hey, too dark.
Morning Show Host
Find him.
Jeffrey
Go back to the bread.
Brooke
Maybe we'll see you two on small claims court on Judge Judy. All right, Good luck.
Morning Show Host
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Jeffrey
You are? I don't think it matters.
Jeff
I think it does.
Brooke
Text in 78592. If you are currently dating Victor, we want to meet you and set you up for another second date update.
Victor
Okay.
Danielle Fischl
And first and last name please.
Jeffrey
I feel like with Victor's list, this is just gonna be Victor's update. Update.
Brooke
I do, I want to call him again. Do all Victor updates all next week. And he's like, ah, you guys again.
Discover Card Advertiser
Yeah.
Jeff
Okay.
Jeffrey
He ends up single at the end is how I predict.
Brooke
Yeah, but it's fun for us. And make sure you go to Brooke and Jeffrey wherever you get your podcast. You can find all of our second dates there. And of course, thanks for listening.
Jeffrey
Yeah, seriously.
Morning Show Host
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning,
Brooke
ladies, if your goal is to meet an attractive, high quality man who's also wildly successful, where do you go to find that?
Ari
Yeah,
Jeffrey
does it exist?
Danielle Fischl
I think you just sit there and they find you, bro.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's what it is.
Brooke
It's a dream. But one of our listeners says she discovered a place swarming with career driven, stable men and her very first visit got her a date. So she's willing to tell us where that secret spot is in exchange for our help getting him back on the phone.
Alexis
Oh, we gotta help her now, Jeff.
Brooke
So ladies, get ready to take notes. Fellas, get ready to go there and pretend to be successful. Cause it's all happening in your second date update. Next.
Morning Show Host
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
We've been talking about it a lot this summer. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. How people are moving away from the dating apps and trying to meet more in person now.
Jeffrey
Well, and like summertime such a time for it. You know, you're feeling good, everyone's a little bit tan. Yeah.
Brooke
But if you're a female, where do you go? Basically anywhere outside of your own house. I was confused. And even that's probably a reach, that there's a few guys who are probably living in your walls waiting for you to say, no, it's okay. You can come out now. I'm ready to be seduced.
Jeffrey
Hey, Celine. Man, I've been wanting a date.
Brooke
Oh, finally.
Danielle Fischl
God.
Brooke
I've been in here for five months. But one of our listeners, Denise, says she decided a few months ago to switch up her strategy to get offline and hoping to meet a high profile man. So I'm very curious to hear where she ended up going to do that. And I think a lot of our female listeners are going to want to know, too. So, Denise, welcome to the show. And tell us, where'd you go to meet this guy?
Morning Show Host
Hey, so I met this guy at the golf course.
Jeffrey
That's smart. Do you like golf or is this like you are learning just for the dudes strategy?
Morning Show Host
You know, I'm just doing it just to meet the guys.
Ari
Okay.
Alexis
Okay.
Danielle Fischl
Hey, at least you're on is.
Jeffrey
And the worst thing that happens is you pick up a new hobby. Yeah.
Brooke
You get a little sunshine.
Morning Show Host
Exactly.
Jeffrey
All right.
Brooke
Okay. How did this even happen? How did you come with the idea to start going to the golf courses?
Morning Show Host
I was watching a video on Instagram, I believe, and one of the influencers said that businessmen and executives like to golf.
Jeffrey
Dude, I've been told as a woman, if you want to succeed in business, you need to learn how to play golf so that you don't miss out on those meetings that happen. Golf course.
Brooke
And did you tell whoever told you that I don't need to be told how to live my life as a woman. I'm an independent person and I can do what I want and hang out with who I want.
Jeffrey
No, I thought it was a good piece of advice.
Brooke
Oh, you liked that, Alexis, Like, I'll
Danielle Fischl
find him at any bar I want.
Brooke
Okay.
Danielle Fischl
I don't have to go to the golf club.
Brooke
All right. So you saw the video and you decided I want that.
Ari
Yep.
Morning Show Host
I need a man who is very well paid, high class, he takes this career seriously.
Jeffrey
Okay, so who did you find on the golf course?
Morning Show Host
Well, I actually met a guy named Franklin.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Ari
Okay.
Jeffrey
Franklin sounds like a rich name.
Danielle Fischl
It kind of does.
Brooke
How did you meet him? Did he come up up and help you with your swing or what?
Jeffrey
I mean, it is a good, easy thing to do. I don't know how to play.
Alexis
Or hit him with a golf ball on accident.
Jeffrey
Alexis.
Alexis
Like a light hit.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah, sure. Whoops.
Brooke
How did it happen?
Morning Show Host
Funny enough, golf courses, you don't just have to play golf. They have awesome clubhouses and bars. And that's where I met him.
Jeffrey
Okay, that's better.
Danielle Fischl
Restaurant.
Jeffrey
Were you ever actually playing the game, or were you just hanging out at the bar?
Morning Show Host
I was on the putting green for at least an hour.
Ari
Oh, okay.
Brooke
Oh, okay.
Jeffrey
That's the free part, I think, that you don't have to pay for. I like it. That's smart. That's smart.
Alexis
And they don't. See if you bring your own cans on them.
Discover Card Advertiser
Yeah.
Kalpen (Kal Penn)
Okay.
Brooke
Tell us about how the interaction between you and Franklin went.
Morning Show Host
Well, over a couple of drinks, he told me that he owns a string of car washes.
Jeffrey
Oh, cool.
Morning Show Host
And I think that's pretty cool.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah, it is.
Morning Show Host
And he pretty much axed me out, so I must say, the golf course strategy works. Worked.
Jeffrey
Nice. I like it. Hole in one.
Alexis
I don't like it anymore. You don't like that?
Jeffrey
Okay, fine.
Morning Show Host
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Eagle, bogey me.
Jacob Goldstein
All right, we.
Victor
We got it.
Danielle Fischl
We got it.
Brooke
We can do five minutes of golf puns, or we can learn more about what. Actually, yeah, let's. Let's learn more about what happened. So, after this, Denise, did you and Franklin go out on a date?
Morning Show Host
Yeah. Well, he took me to a really nice restaurant.
Jeffrey
Nice.
Morning Show Host
The date was great. The vibes were super awesome. And I've been thinking why I haven't heard from him since. And I think the one thing that may have turned him off, because, you know, I'm sort of specific on how I eat, I like to bring my own silverware.
Jeffrey
Interesting.
Alexis
To.
Brooke
To the restaurant?
Morning Show Host
Yes.
Jeffrey
Why?
Danielle Fischl
Okay, hold on. Like, chopsticks? Cause I can see that. I know people that bring chopsticks with them, like, if they want it.
Morning Show Host
No, like my fork. You know, my kn.
Jeffrey
Why do you do that?
Morning Show Host
Sometimes you can see that it's not washed properly, and people are putting the silverware in their mouth.
Jeffrey
Okay. It's a sanitary thing for you.
Danielle Fischl
I could see that.
Morning Show Host
For me, I'd rather be safe than sorry. So I just bring my own silverware.
Jeffrey
Okay. So at a nice restaurant, you pull out silverware from your purse.
Morning Show Host
Yeah.
Brooke
Which is obviously a clean place to keep it, so that's good.
Morning Show Host
Well, I protect my silverware. I wrap it up really nice. I put it in a container.
Jeffrey
Wait, so what was his reaction when you did this?
Morning Show Host
It wasn't all that great, but after I explained myself, it seemed like he was okay with it.
Ari
Okay?
Brooke
Yeah, kind of like us.
Danielle Fischl
Like, we were, like, weird. And then you explained it, and I was like, okay, I guess.
Jeffrey
You got a thing.
Brooke
Did you bring a fork and a knife for Franklin to use, or was it just for you? Because that could be seen as kind of selfish.
Morning Show Host
It was just myself. I didn't want to peep him out too much.
Brooke
Yeah, so it sounds like Franklin was able to understand why you do it and you were able to move past it. How did the rest of the date go?
Morning Show Host
It went pretty well. I mean, at the end, I thanked them for the date, we hugged, and we said, we'll talk to each other soon.
Jeffrey
Dude, it's so funny. I imagine you wrapping up your utensils as. As you're doing your pleasantry.
Danielle Fischl
All right, I gotta take these home.
Jeffrey
I mean, honestly, to the wait staff, it probably looks like you're stealing.
Morning Show Host
Yeah, you know, I didn't even think of that.
Discover Card Advertiser
Yeah.
Brooke
Okay, well, that could be something that's happening, but clearly he's not calling you back. And I'm sure he's gonna be thrilled when he learns that a radio station is reaching out to him, trying to get in contact. People love that.
Jeffrey
Especially high class people.
Morning Show Host
Yeah, I'm not ready to let him go yet.
Jeffrey
Okay, I think you're good. Do whatever it takes.
Morning Show Host
Or if it doesn't work with you guys, I'm just gonna have to go back to the golf course.
Victor
Okay.
Brooke
And Alexis might wanna go with you, so.
Alexis
No, I wanna hit everyone of his car washes till we find him.
Ari
That's another strategy, too.
Brooke
Middle one.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah, I like it.
Brooke
We'll get some stuff done when we call him. And get your second date update right after this.
Morning Show Host
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And right after part one ended, we got reports that thousands of single women have been flocking to the local golf courses, attempting to meet high profile men. All right, that was the strategy our listener Denise used. She heard a lot of businessmen and executives go there to hang out. It's a good place to meet guys. And that's where she met the car wash king, a guy named Franklin. They hit it off, went out to dinner. The weird part of dinner was she brought her own silverware to the restaurant.
Alexis
Yeah, but she knows it's weird.
Jeffrey
She acknowledged that. And it's still high class because it's not a plastic fork and knife like I would have pulled for my purse.
Danielle Fischl
And she has a decent excuse.
Brooke
Yes, it's a cleanliness thing for her. She explained it to Franklin. And even though he seemed cool about it, he still may have thought this is a little bit too much of a high maintenance situation. And that could be the reason he's not calling her back.
Jeffrey
Which is silly because it's not like you asked him to bring the silverware for you. That would be the high maintenance part, right?
Danielle Fischl
Good point.
Ari
Exactly.
Brooke
Okay, any last thoughts before we give Franklin a call here? Denise?
Victor
Nope.
Morning Show Host
I'm ready when you're ready.
Jeffrey
Okay, you sound real positive about this.
Danielle Fischl
All right, let's go around the room. Who's ready? I'm ready.
Brooke
We're all ready.
Ari
Okay.
Jeffrey
She's confident because she knows she can just go back to the golf course.
Alexis
Yeah, there's plenty to pick from.
Danielle Fischl
She actually likes this guy.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's true.
Brooke
Yeah, so let's just dial Franklin. Here we go. I'm calling him right now.
Franklin
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Franklin?
Franklin
Yes, it is. How can I help you?
Brooke
Hey, thanks for answering. We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Jeffrey
Hey, Franklin.
Danielle Fischl
Good morning, Franklin. Are you busy right now?
Franklin
A little bit. How'd you get my number?
Brooke
We actually got it from one of our listeners who asked us to reach out to you. It's kind of the point of this segment. We're trying to see if we can get the two of you back together. A girl named Denise.
Franklin
What is this all about?
Brooke
This is a segment that we do. It's called the Second Date Update. And Denise reached out to us. She told us to get a hold of you because she isn't sure why the two of you are. You aren't hanging out again a second time.
Jeffrey
Yeah, it sounds like you had a great date.
Ari
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Are you laughing?
Franklin
What does she tell you, huh?
Brooke
Okay, you just want to get right down to business. But that makes sense about you. We heard you're a business guy.
Danielle Fischl
True.
Franklin
I am. Time is money.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay, so this guy with cliches.
Brooke
We won't keep you too long then. But the gist of what we heard is that you two met at a golf course. You ended up going out to dinner a few days later.
Jeffrey
It sounds like you took her to a really nice spot, which she loved.
Franklin
It's funny. She told you all this.
Brooke
Yeah, well, we're just trying to figure out, like, the idea, the general vibe of the date. And she did mention a weird thing that happened that maybe could have freaked you out a little bit. Where she brought her own silverware to the restaurant?
Victor
Yes.
Franklin
That was unusual.
Jeffrey
What did you think when she pulled it out of her purse?
Franklin
I didn't really know what to say when that happened.
Danielle Fischl
Hopefully she didn't pull the knife out first, because that would be weird. Like, what did I do?
Jeffrey
We're at a steakhouse, Right.
Franklin
She did take out a fork first, and I said something along. I don't remember exactly what I said because I was so, like, surprised.
Brooke
Yeah, I mean, if I was in your same situation, I wouldn't know what to say either.
Franklin
Honestly explained it and I. It did make a certain kind of sense. I mean, on a certain level, I'm a neat freak as well, so I kind of get it.
Jeffrey
Okay, Well, I mean, it is funny that she doesn't care about the plate or the glass or anything, but. Yeah, but I get it.
Brooke
She was worried that maybe. Maybe that was the reason that you're not calling her for a second hangout. Is that true?
Franklin
Here's the thing. I just don't know if it's a
Jeffrey
good match because of the silverware.
Franklin
She came across as. The silverware is one thing, but she did come across as, like. I guess the term I'm looking for is a little high maintenance, I guess.
Danielle Fischl
Oh, that's different.
Brooke
What made you say, like, she's high maintenance? What specifically stuck out to you?
Franklin
The thing that really stuck out was she ordered pot stickers, I guess, for the appetizer. When they arrived to the table, she asked the waiter if the pot stickers were made from land meat.
Jeffrey
Land meat, huh? What does that mean?
Danielle Fischl
That's a weird way to put it.
Franklin
Land meat, like seafood.
Danielle Fischl
Land food.
Jeffrey
That doesn't sound high maintenance. That just is a weird question.
Franklin
Explained to me that a land meat is meat from an animal that has never touched water.
Victor
Water.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Discover Card Advertiser
Oh.
Franklin
Which was confusing to me because she didn't elaborate. So I'm thinking, like, does that mean it's not fish? Or is this specifically something where the animal has never. Like, it's a pig that's only been in the slop. Is it a chicken that's never been bathed?
Ari
You know, like, I did never been in a pond.
Kalpen (Kal Penn)
A duck.
Franklin
And then she seemed a little frustrated with the way in her. Because he didn't know. I guess he didn't know the answer to her question. I don't think. To be fair, I don't think he understood the question.
Alexis
Yeah, it doesn't really make sense.
Brooke
Truthfully. I don't think I understand. So the only way to clear this up is by actually talking to Denise about it. And that's gonna be really easy because she's on the other line already.
Franklin
What do you mean she's here?
Brooke
Yeah, that's how this segment works, is we have the other person waiting to jump in and talk to you.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah.
Franklin
Okay. That's a little surprising, but sorry.
Brooke
So, Denise, are you there?
Morning Show Host
Yes, I am here.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Troy Millings
Okay.
Brooke
Say hi to Franklin.
Morning Show Host
Hi, Franklin. I thought we had something. I thought we could have something together. The date went so well.
Franklin
Yeah, no, I liked it. It was great chemistry. But it's been eight days, and I still don't really. I'm not sure what land meat is.
Brooke
Yeah, I think we all want to know. Could you clear it up?
Morning Show Host
Okay, so I know it doesn't make any sense to you guys, but it makes sense to me. And that's okay because, listen, the second you bite into sea meat.
Ari
Sea meat.
Morning Show Host
Something is off.
Danielle Fischl
Sea meat. So funny.
Jeffrey
I mean, that's the same as seafood, right? That's fine. You call seafood sea meat?
Morning Show Host
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. You're not getting it.
Brooke
Okay? Seafood and sea meat are different. Brooke.
Jeffrey
Yeah, explain.
Morning Show Host
So for land meat, that is any animal that's not touching water. So like, any cow that's near a
Brooke
lake, that's a no?
Morning Show Host
That's a definite no. Any chicken near a river, you're in a dry area.
Jeffrey
Cow.
Danielle Fischl
She needs a middle American cow. A Nebraska.
Brooke
Like. Like a piece of beef jerky, totally dry would be her absolute ideal meal.
Jeffrey
Why does that matter to you? Why does it matter if the cow lives by a body of water or not?
Morning Show Host
Because you can taste the difference in the meat.
Danielle Fischl
It's like a hell thing. It's another thing.
Alexis
I would think the cows live by a river, are happier.
Jeffrey
Cows, right?
Danielle Fischl
Is that more water?
Brooke
Not according to Denise.
Morning Show Host
Listen, those are. Are death cows.
Jeffrey
There is no science to back up what you were saying.
Morning Show Host
I can't tell you about the science. I can just tell you what I taste, and it's completely different. Taste, honesty.
Danielle Fischl
Right there.
Jeffrey
You're like, this is a fishy steak.
Morning Show Host
Okay, Franklin, you calling me high maintenance just because of that is just so ridiculous.
Brooke
Yeah, Franklin.
Jeffrey
I mean, I would call it quirky, not.
Brooke
Franklin, you may have crossed a line there.
Franklin
So I really don't see the point in apologizing for not understanding.
Jeffrey
Yeah, okay. Do you still feel that way after hearing her explanation of land meat?
Franklin
To be honest with you, I'm more confused than ever before. And so many questions. I mean, if a lamb can't Take a bath. What does that even mean?
Danielle Fischl
That's a stinky lamb.
Jeffrey
What does it mean, Denise?
Morning Show Host
It means that it's sea meat, but it's not.
Alexis
It's confusing.
Brooke
If it's come into contact with water, it is. Is officially a sea animal.
Danielle Fischl
I'm going to order the sea lamb next time I go to a steakhouse.
Jeffrey
I'm telling you, there is no way for you to know this information about the meat.
Morning Show Host
Exactly. I shouldn't know because it's a restaurant's responsibility.
Brooke
That is a good. That's a good point. Actually.
Morning Show Host
They prepare the food. They must know if it's sea meat or land meat.
Danielle Fischl
They do.
Brooke
They should have bios next to every piece of meat that you order so that you can understand what you're putting into your body.
Franklin
Yeah, I think now you guys can see why I think Denise is high maintenance.
Morning Show Host
It is not high maintenance. It's high knowledge. Okay? It's high knowledge of knowing what I'm putting in my body. And quite frankly, Franklin, you should do the same.
Jeffrey
Okay?
Brooke
Yes. Especially with how much time he spends around water. With all those car washes. You need to be careful.
Danielle Fischl
And on the golf course, the water hazards.
Brooke
You're basically sea meat at this point, Franklin. So actually, I don't even know if Denise would want to hang out with you a second time.
Morning Show Host
It sounds like he's not that interested in me, so I'll just exit first.
Brooke
Missed your chance, Franklin. I'm sorry. Not even gonna offer you a second.
Franklin
I'm going to try to find a meat eating cow for lunch.
Brooke
That's just cannibalism. That's weird.
Kalpen (Kal Penn)
That's not.
Brooke
What are you doing?
Jeffrey
I don't know. I think chickens are kind of into it.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Franklin
At least I got a chuckle out of this, I guess. And I dodged a bullet because.
Danielle Fischl
Yeah, and you're probably gonna be on the radio.
Brooke
Bullet.
Morning Show Host
Stop talking. Why are you still talking?
Brooke
Let's just hang up on this guy.
Franklin
To be honest, I am a little dehydrated.
Ari
I may need some more.
Morning Show Host
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

do you ever feel like maybe we're going to be on the wrong side of history for this one?
Jeffrey
Land meat.
Brooke
Yeah. For a long time people laughed and scoffed at the idea of glutenfree bread or vegan bone broth or mushroom laced coffee. Now look at it.
Jeffrey
Vegan bone broth.
Franklin
Yeah, that's a thing.
Brooke
I bet in a few years, Land Me meat and sea meat are going to be common terms popping up on restaurant menus all over the country.

We're gonna be so confused. Gonna be like, can I get an ice water? No ice, no water. Thank you.

Episode: Offer He Can't Refuse + Sea Meat Surprise
Date: July 18, 2026
Podcast: iHeartPodcasts’ Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update
This “classics” episode features two back-to-back "Second Date Update" stories filled with awkward, hilarious, and revealing moments about modern dating challenges. As usual, the team—Brooke, Jeffrey, Alexis, and guest hosts—use their witty banter to both help listeners get the real reason behind a failed second date and provide high-energy comedic commentary.
The two central stories are:
[Starts ~04:25]
Ari reached out after her three promising dates with Victor fizzled. Things seemed to be going well until an awkward bill situation at an upscale restaurant. Ari ended up paying over $200, Victor didn’t seem grateful, and now he’s barely communicating. Ari wants clarity—and her money back.
First Two Dates: Light, easygoing, and both paid by Victor. The couple even coincidentally wore matching outfits on date one—a fun detail that suggested strong chemistry.
Third Date Bill Drama: At a fancy restaurant, Ari arrived first and put her credit card down to hold the reservation. When the bill arrived, the waiter asked if he should run her card. Victor was awkwardly passive and didn’t offer to pay or split.
No Thank You, No Follow-up: Victor failed to thank Ari and communication stalled afterward. Ari feels slighted after the expensive evening and debates if she even wants to see Victor again—unless he pays her for half the dinner.
Ari sets the tone:
[09:57 Brooke]: "That's weird, because you paid. Like, it feels like—"
[10:13 Ari]: "If he doesn’t want to see me again, I feel like he needs to run me my money. Like he needs to pay for half…"
The Confrontation—calling Victor (starts ~12:47):
Victor’s Retort: [17:33 Victor]: “Okay. I can say the same thing for you. I paid for the drinks for the first two dates, so why don’t you send me that money back too?”
Hosts’ Banter: The Godfather jokes (“I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse… or send you an Applebee’s card with half the balance gone”) pepper the exchange, highlighting the show’s playful, irreverent vibe.
[Starts ~22:55]
Denise wanted to up her dating game by meeting successful men offline. She took advice from an influencer and started hanging out at a golf course—a tip for where to find career-focused men. There, she met Franklin, the “car wash king.” They hit it off, but after a dinner date, Franklin ghosted.
Golf Course Strategy: Denise deliberately switched from apps to meeting men IRL, trying the golf course scene per influencer advice.
How They Met: Not on the green, but at the clubhouse bar, after Denise spent an hour on the putting green. Franklin shared his business success; Denise was impressed.
Quirky First Impression: Denise brought her own silverware to dinner for sanitary reasons, something she admits is unusual but non-negotiable.
The Moment of Truth—Franklin’s Take: When called, Franklin is courteous but admits the “land meat” vs. “sea meat” terminology Denise uses left him confused and, ultimately, turned off.
“Land meat” confusion ([33:39 Brooke]):
Denise Stands Her Ground:
[36:43 Denise]: “I can just tell you what I taste, and it’s completely different… It is not high maintenance. It’s high knowledge.”
Host Banter:
Ari (about splitting the bill):
“If he doesn’t want to see me again, I feel like he needs to run me my money. Like… he needs to pay for half.” [10:13]
Victor (explaining dating multiple women):
“I’m new to the city… I’m scouting the roster.” [14:23]
Denise (defending land meat):
“It is not high maintenance. It’s high knowledge. Knowing what I’m putting in my body.” [37:59]
Franklin (on Denise’s specificity):
“If a lamb can’t take a bath, what does that even mean?” [37:07]
The tone is playful, confrontational, and self-aware, with both hosts and callers unafraid to be candid or ridiculous. There’s a mix of real dating pain points (who pays, ghosting, honesty about intentions) and genuine absurdity (land meat “science,” literal requests for Venmo paybacks).
This is classic “Brooke and Jeffrey”: taking routine dating disasters and elevating them with humor, pointed social observation, and a willingness to let their guests’ quirks shine. If you like reality-based cringe comedy about relationships, it’s a must-listen.
