Brooke
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning and you know, a lot of people go to like the pollen count and things to see how bad allergies are.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I see it on the weather app.
Brooke
We just turned to Ashton over there to see if he's sneezing. Yep, he just irregularly.
Jeffrey
Is that nose red today?
Brooke
He is.
Graham
I don't know. Wait a minute.
Brooke
He's a, I don't know, sensitive redhead.
Alexis
So honestly, I feel like you sneeze year round, but it gets a little worse at certain times.
Jeffrey
That's how we know if his eyes are puffy. We know.
Jeff
Yeah, exactly. 7:00am and 8:00am on the dot.
Brooke
It's the Ashton count. And if you suffer from allergies, we're really sorry, but.
Jeffrey
Or if you suffer from Ashton.
Jackie
Yeah.
Brooke
Either way, Jeff's got a great song for you. I don't know if you realize we do parody songs. Jeff writes them every week and performs them. You can see them live. Not live, live. To tape. I guess you could say.
Jeffrey
Yeah, they were live when they were filmed.
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke
But you can see them on our YouTube, which we love it when you check that out. It's at Brooke and Jeffrey. And we are working on some more video for second dates. Yeah, it's a process.
Jeffrey
So it's just me dancing in the studio.
Brooke
Stick with us on that one. But right now we're gonna do some back to back classics. Yeah. Have fun.
Jeff
When you're on a really good first date and the chemistry's on, you're feeling the butterflies.
Jackie
Yes.
Jeff
But you look across the table and notice there's something on your date's face that shouldn't be there.
Brooke
Uh oh.
Jeff
Do you a silently lick your finger and rub it off yourself?
Brooke
Uh oh no.
Jeffrey
What if it's a birthmark or something? Ye.
Brooke
That's a risk.
Graham
That's a risk.
Jeff
Do you B, pull the fire alarm and hope the water from the sprinkler washes it away?
Brooke
That's a good solution, Jeff.
Jeffrey
Or you're so smart.
Jeff
Option C, do what our listener did when he found himself in that situation.
Brooke
Oh, no.
Jeff
We're gonna find out if option C contributed to him not getting a call back. You'll find out what happened in your second date update. Next.
Brooke (Ad Segment)
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeff
Brooke, did you know the first time that you met your husband Michael that something was special? Not. Not saying that you knew, like, you were going to get married in the first 15 seconds of talking to him, but was there anything that happened with you instantly that let you know, whoa, there's something real, like something actually special going on?
Brooke
Oh, no. I just felt so good around him, and I was so excited about him.
Jeff
Okay, you were drunk, so that's probably why.
Brooke
I mean, I did have, like, five glasses of wine and make a off color UTI joke in the night I met him.
Jeff
Okay, well, yeah, UTI jokes.
Brooke
And he still likes me.
Graham
Okay, there you go.
Jeff
That explains it. I mean, I remember the first time that I met Jose and I noticed his fly was down, and I thought, ooh, special.
Jeffrey
But you didn't tell me xyz, though.
Jeff
No, I enjoyed it.
Brooke
He asked you to put it down further.
Jeff
Yeah, but, you know, we don't talk about this all the time about that first 10, 15 seconds when you meet your date and something happens inside that lets you know. Apparently, that happened to one of our listeners, Graham, recently. At least that's what his email said. And we should learn a little bit more about it. Graham, welcome to the show, man.
Graham
Hey, guys. Thanks for taking my call. Oh, hi.
Brooke
I can't wait to hear about this chance meet. Or maybe it wasn't chance meeting. Whatever the meeting was, it sounds great.
Jeff
Yeah. So without getting overly descriptive, how did your body let you know that this was special?
Graham
Well, she didn't have her fly open, I can tell you that.
Brooke
Dang it.
Jeff
So what's her name, by the way? And how did you meet her?
Graham
Her name is Aura.
Brooke
Aura. That's cool. How'd you meet her?
Graham
We met on one of those dating apps, and we decided to meet at a wine bar.
Brooke
All right, so going into meeting her at the wine bar, were you expecting something special?
Graham
Well, you know how you always have your hopes up. Yeah, but I knew when I walked in that I was going to be in so much trouble. Wow. She immediately recognized me and started from across the room, waving both of her hands over her head like a total dork.
Jeffrey
She's just one of those people like me. She got no shame.
Brooke
I love her. And you loved that, right?
Graham
Oh, my gosh. She was just so, like, effortlessly cute
Jeffrey
little free spirit over there.
Brooke
Her name's Aura. It comes with an.
Jeff
Just a good energy.
Brooke
That's adorable.
Jeff
So.
Brooke
And it sounds like she was excited to see.
Graham
It was one of those, like, initial meetings where in the first five seconds I was like, oh my God, this is just like a dream. It was fantastic.
Jeff
That must be a lot to process, right, when you're first getting to know somebody. So did the feeling wear off and just get into like a normal date after that?
Graham
I mean, I wouldn't say it wore off or it was normal. It was just. I mean, there was a jazz trio playing and we were both into jazz music and she was like, oh, let's make up names for the guys. And so you have Sammy Sly guitar playing and Dennis the drummer, all that kind of stuff. We were just cracking each other up the whole time.
Jeffrey
You guys were in your own world, right?
Jeff
Exactly.
Brooke
And they're already making almost inside jokes with each other. You know, like just a fun, fun thing.
Jeffrey
Now anytime any song comes on the radio, you can be like, oh, yeah, this is my favorite drummer, Willington Drummerson, you know, whatever.
Jeff
Well, clearly the vibes are there, so keep taking us through how the rest of the date goes.
Graham
It just kept getting better. I mean, our sense of like, humor was just so, like simpatico, I guess, to use that word. Like at one point she had like some lipstick on her front teeth.
Brooke
Uh huh.
Graham
So I started like signaling and rubbing on my own front teeth.
Brooke
Good, I'm glad you told her.
Jeff
Yeah.
Graham
And she just looks at me, she goes, what, are you having a stroke?
Jeffrey
Just rubbing your tongue on your teeth?
Graham
Exactly. I was just laughing so much. And then.
Jeffrey
That was fun.
Graham
Oh yeah, it was. It went so well.
Brooke
Oh my God.
Jeff
Sounds like it.
Brooke
Why are you calling us for help then? Like, I don't get it. How could this have ended poorly?
Graham
Well, that's the thing. It didn't really end poorly. When we said goodbye, she just came up to me and gave me like a really long, tight hug.
Brooke
Oh, that's nice.
Jeffrey
Some of those are nice.
Graham
Exactly. And she says we have to definitely do this again.
Jeff
Oh, that's nice.
Brooke
That seems so sincere.
Graham
I've texted her twice. One time to see if she wanted to go out for coffee. The second time to see if she wanted to go do a trivia night. Because I think she'd be great at that.
Jeffrey
Wait, how long did you wait before you texted her? Was this like 30 minutes after the date or was this a couple days?
Graham
I waited two days.
Brooke
I think that's good.
Alexis
That's too long.
Brooke
I think when you have a connection like that with someone that you just go with it. You just follow.
Alexis
You don't gotta play the game of like, waiting.
Jeffrey
Yeah, so that extra day, that's what blew it, that you took too long.
Jeff
Have you not. At a certain point, you just gotta grab your luggage and move in with it. Sounds like so connected.
Brooke
Have you not heard from her at all?
Graham
Well, that's the thing is like when I was texting her, she did reply, but she said that she was busy. And the worst part was, like, she didn't offer an alternative time or date or anything like that. It was, no, I'm busy, I can't.
Brooke
I mean, sometimes these free spirits, they really suck at text.
Jeff
I mean, Alexis, if you wanted to see a guy, would you tell him, like, I'm just busy, or would you offer up a little bit more?
Alexis
Oh, I would offer something else. I'd probably over offer, honestly. I'd probably mention all the times I'm free.
Brooke
How many times would you apologize for being busy?
Alexis
A lot.
Brooke
In all caps.
Jeff
It is odd that she leaves it at just I'm busy and no explanation and no other follow up to it.
Graham
Exactly.
Jeff
That could feel like that. She's trying to brush you off. I understand.
Brooke
And you guys had such a thing happening. It's just hard to imagine she wasn't right there with you feeling the exact same thing.
Jeff
Well, maybe it was the fact that you made her pay for the dinner that night.
Jeffrey
You made her pay?
Jeff
I'm just assuming.
Graham
Did you?
Jeffrey
Wait, how did the.
Graham
No, no, no. I am a proper gentleman. I paid for everything. I just need you. I need you guys to find out for me how the hell did I blow this.
Brooke
No, we're gonna find for you how to keep it going. Because I've got faith in this one.
Jeff
Because we don't even know that you blew it. It could be something totally unrelated.
Brooke
I am so excited to get her on the phone.
Jeff
All right, well, let's find out. We're gonna come back, call Aura, and try and get you your second date update coming up right after this. Okay?
Graham
Thank you.
Jeff
All right, man, hold on.
Brooke (Ad Segment)
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeff
Whenever I'm stuck on hold with customer service for four straight hours. And the automated message keeps replaying over and over saying, we're busy right now, but don't go anywhere. Your call's very important to us. We're just busy. Yeah, I believe them.
Brooke
Oh, you do?
Jeff
They really, really care.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we're not understaffed.
Brooke
Yeah, I'm sure they're not a break somewhere.
Jeff
But the thing is, if you're on the other end of a potential relationship with somebody you really like and you get to. Sorry, I'm just busy right now. In a rows, it's hard not to be a little bit skeptical and feel like you're being blown off.
Brooke
Yeah, especially when they don't say, hey, press number nine for a different day to date me.
Jeff
Exactly. And that's where our listener Graham is. After a really good date at a jazz bar with a girl named Aura, he has turned to us because those two busies just aren't equaling a second meetup.
Brooke
And they're not equally the vibe that they had going when they were hanging out. It just sounds so good.
Alexis
I can't believe we haven't said it sooner, but negative aura points for her.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
Graham. I mean, before we call her here, how you feeling?
Graham
I'm feeling a little nervous, to be honest.
Jeffrey
But how's your aura?
Brooke
I mean, I get it. I'm feeling nervous for you. I mean, you just sound so excited, and I want this to happen for you. I think we all do.
Jeffrey
Everything sounded so good. I don't want to put this out there, but it has to be shocking. Like, whatever the excuses you're not going to see, like, oh, wow, I didn't think of that. There's nothing that has gone wrong.
Jeff
We can change that right now. Let's see if something went wrong. I'm gonna dial her number right now. Hopefully she picks up the phone. Here we go.
Jackie
Hello?
Jeff
Hey, is this Aura?
Jackie
Yes.
Aura
Who's this?
Jeff
Okay, this is. We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Brooke
Hi, Ora. The whole show's here.
Jeff
Thanks for being with us.
Aura
Okay. Hi. I didn't. I don't think I signed up for anything. I don't.
Jeff
Yeah, no, you didn't. But one of our listeners kind of signed you up for something called a second date update.
Aura
Okay.
Jeff
So if you're not familiar with that, it's a segment that we do on our show where we try to help people who've gone out with somebody one time, but they're not getting that second meetup and they're not sure why? We can call and try to figure out if there's a reason for it.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
Does that make sense?
Aura
Yeah, I guess.
Brooke
We know you're really busy, so we won't keep you.
Jeff
That's what we've heard.
Jeffrey
We're really good at these, by the way. We'll be efficient. Okay. We'll get through this.
Jeff
Because we're calling about a guy that you went out with recently named Graham.
Aura
I'm sorry, I'm like, super confused. Like, what is this great question.
Jeff
Well, yeah, that's the thing is we spoke to Graham about your date and we're just trying to figure out if there's a reason that the two of you haven't gone out again. Because you keep saying to him that
Brooke
you're busy but not offering any solutions on when to meet up.
Aura
Yeah, I mean, I, Like, I already texted him. Like I said I was busy during the times he wanted to hang out.
Jeff
I think in his mind, when you say I'm busy, that's just like. It can be a word that people use to brush somebody off if you're not actually wanting to see them, but you don't want to come off as being rude.
Aura
Like, I meant what I said. I'm just really busy.
Brooke
Okay, okay, but there's no way. I mean, like, I'm sorry, we're all really busy, but like, when you meet somebody that you feel like you have this crazy connection with, you'll make time for them.
Aura
Yep, but I'm not like canceling my plans. Like, I know we're not.
Jeff
We're not asking you to do that, but he just asked us to call because it was unclear to him if you actually wanted to meet us up. But it's.
Jackie
What's unclear, I'm saying.
Aura
Okay, but I am busy.
Brooke
Okay, I'm clear if you like, I. I'm honestly still unclear whether you actually like him or not.
Aura
I like him, but, like, I don't understand why. Like, he needs a third party interjecting. That's like I said that I'm free. I'm. I'm just busy. During the times he mentioned.
Jeff
Gotcha, I hear you. And I don't want to be the third party interjecting whatsoever. In fact, wants.
Sophia Bush
I'm scared.
Aura
Just like, weird.
Jeff
Well, no, listen, Graham is actually the one I want you to talk to and it's perfect cuz he's right here on the other line, listening, waiting to jump in.
Graham
Hey, Ora.
Aura
What? I'm so confused. Like, what is happening?
Jackie
What's.
Aura
Like, what's the Deal with these, like, jobbers you hired to, like, will be about us.
Brooke
Jabbers or jobbers.
Jeff
You said jobbers.
Jackie
Jobbers.
Aura
I called you jobbers. I don't know what you guys, like.
Jeff
We are employed.
Alexis
Is it like, a yapper?
Jeff
Okay, Graham, why don't you talk to her?
Graham
Yeah, I didn't. I didn't hire them. It's just a radio show, and they, you know, help people get in touch if they're having trouble getting together, so.
Aura
Yeah, but like I told you, I was busy a couple of times. Like, don't you think it's a little extreme to, like, go on a radio station and honestly, whoever that guy was I've been talking to, like, did not seem prepared at all. He didn't know what I was talking about. And he, like, tried to nail down a date for you.
Jeffrey
Are you talking about Jeff?
Brooke
That's fine. Sometimes people need a common enemy. Can it come together? She's pretty guilty.
Jeff
Honestly, I'm with her. I wasn't doing a very good job. That was pretty crap. I'd give myself a D. I don't
Brooke
want you to feel bad, or can't you think of this as, like, a kind of a romantic gesture? Like, he really wants to see you, and he went to all this effort.
Aura
No, it's super weird.
Bowen Yang
Okay, well, that's okay.
Jeffrey
I said you guys had so much chemistry. I feel like you're so angry right now.
Brooke
Does this feel like the same person you went out with, Graham?
Graham
Well, maybe not a little bit, but you guys have been kind of grilling her pretty hard.
Jeffrey
Oh, I mean, master Regular questions.
Brooke
We can take the fall.
Graham
Yeah, no, no, no. That's okay. I mean, your intentions are great, and that's fine.
Jeffrey
Well, so are yours, bro.
Jeff
I did have some bad intentions when I dialed. I'll be honest. I brought some negative energy into this, and that's my fault. Negative aura. That's right.
Jeffrey
You are so guilty, and you shouldn't be.
Brooke
Aura. Is there anything we can do to come back from putting you out or making you feel weird?
Jackie
Like you keep saying, you can stop
Aura
asking me questions, and he can just ask me out. How about that?
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
Okay.
Alexis
All right.
Graham
I think that's perfect. That's perfect. I'd love to hang out. And how about this weekend? Are you free, like, on Friday?
Aura
I'm busy Friday.
Jeffrey
See, I knew it.
Brooke
Okay, okay. Keep going, girl.
Graham
Well, how about Saturday then?
Aura
I've got something that day. But, like, you should. And you probably need to know this, but I'm in, like, two other Situationships.
Alexis
Oh, that's why you're so busy.
Jeff
Oh, that's okay.
Graham
Well, now we know why she's so busy.
Brooke
Oh, Graham. I'm sorry.
Jeff
Is that okay with you, Graham?
Graham
Well, let me ask you. You said you're already in two situations, so. Really? What does that mean?
Aura
It means a lot of fun.
Jeffrey
Wow.
Brooke
Finally softened up.
Graham
Do you even have time for me then, or what?
Aura
I'm free Sunday afternoon. Like, I can squeeze you in.
Brooke
Oh, wow, how romantic.
Graham
Hey, I'm not really sure if I want to be squeezed in between two other dudes.
Aura
I mean, beggars can't be choosers here. Like, you're the one who's late to the party. But it's still a party.
Jeff
Okay, she's clearly not rejecting you. But. But you're gonna.
Brooke
But she's offering you not much.
Aura
Yeah, I'm single. Like, I don't have to, like, kind of be you.
Brooke
You're kind of single.
Jeff
I think we're all jealous of you are, if anything. So.
Brooke
I don't know. I think. Graham. I don't know. Graham, I feel like you deserve more than this.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you do. Well, I don't.
Graham
Look, guys, I think I should just go with my gut and say, you only live once and let's do it.
Aura
Okay.
Brooke
Bring it back.
Aura
Yolo.
Jeff
So you're open to a possible third situationship with Orc?
Graham
Well, I mean, if the third situationship goes so well, maybe they'll just turn into a single situationship.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
Really optimistic. Good for you.
Aura
I mean, that's the point of, like, dating. Like, you're supposed to, like, try new things and see what sticks.
Brooke
Okay, that's true.
Jeff
Yeah. Well, great. Now we're running out of time here, so I'm just curious, though. Or if he does go through with this, does that put him, like, in the third seat, like, the last place guy? Or does he need to do a trial run? And does he have to meet the other guys?
Jeffrey
Is there a Google Doc?
Brooke
Why would they meet the other guy?
Jeff
I don't know how it works with this.
Jackie
That's so weird. No.
Aura
Okay, so if it works out, it works out. And if it doesn't, we had fun.
Jeff
Okay, great. I just want to be clear that we're setting our guy up for success here, so we would like to offer to send you guys out on a date, and we would pay for it.
Aura
I. Yeah, I mean, I'm down. Thank you.
Brooke
Not the grand romantic ending I was hoping for, Graham, but a lot more realistic. Yeah, you know,
Brooke (Ad Segment)

Jeff
Oh, was that like the ickiest yes that we've ever gotten to a second date ever.
Brooke
It's not where I wanted things to end, I'll tell you that.
Jeff
Yeah, but. But at least we got an answer to why she was busy.
Alexis
And.
Brooke
And I guess it's clear to Graham what he's walking into, right? Like there's no mystery here anymore.
Jeff
I don't know if it is really clear because we never really asked whether the like situationships know about each other or how serious they really were with anything.
Brooke
She seems pretty blunt, Jeff.
Jeff
I mean she seems like she enjoys it for sure. Yeah, it's the one thing that made her her smile during that entire call
Brooke
and get like a weird sexy voice thing.
Jeff
How can you not when you're thinking about your harem of guys waiting for you? But I just have a feeling our boy Graham isn't gonna be happy settling for Sunday afternoon hangouts.
Brooke
Now he's Sunday boy.
Alexis
Now he's a pretty positive person he might be okay with.
Jeff
Might end in a four way marriage if it goes well enough.
Brooke
Sweet.
Jeff
So good for you, Graham. Keep us updated. But if you want help with your dating life, you can always email the show. So we'll call that person who isn't calling you back and go check out all of our second dates, wherever you get your podcasts at. Brooke and Jeffrey.
Brooke (Ad Segment)
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
What's the perfect setting to have a romantic first kiss? Maybe during a candle at dinner or on a moonlit walk down the beach or under the flickering fluorescent light in stall four, if you St. John's Truck
Jeffrey
Stop, there's a light flickering like one of those fly zappers.
Brooke
It's a romantic part.
Jeff
Setting the mood. Yeah, I'm just saying everyone has a different idea of what that perfect moment looks like. Okay, but for one of our listeners, her first kiss happened out in broad daylight, probably with children watching.
Brooke
Oh, wait, wait.
Jeff
And even though they arranged a second meetup, that meetup never happened. It's like stall number four all over again. So we're gonna do everything in our power to get to the bottom of it in your second date update right after this.
Brooke (Ad Segment)
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning second date update.
Jeff
We've all heard of dating ultimatums where they put it all on the line and say, either you put a ring on it or I'm gone. Okay, you have to pick. Is it me or your mom?
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Jeff
You can't have both.
Brooke
You're going to get dumped every time. On both of those occasions, I feel
Jeff
like, well, if they really love you, they'll choose you. But it is pretty rare to give yourself a dating ultimatum. What, like, that's it? If I don't find somebody by August, I'm just marrying my weighted blanket and calling it a life.
Brooke
Well, there could be worse options. That weighted blanket, really?
Jeff
It really knows how to, like, hug you the right way. But I bring it up because one of our listeners says she's on the precipice of giving up on dating forever unless we can make this call work.
Brooke
That is so much on us. Why would you do that to us, Jackie?
Graham
Is that right?
Jackie
Yeah, that's completely right.
Brooke
Okay, Jackie, don't come in all cheerful like you weren't just doomsday in that. Yeah, in that moment.
Jackie
No, this isn't. I'm not cheerful. I'm just letting you know that if this doesn't work out, I'm done. I am done.
Alexis
Have you heard how this segment goes? The odds Aren't very high in your favor.
Jackie
Yeah, I'm that desperate. I'm with you guys.
Jeff
Oh, okay.
Brooke
Well, you know what? We're all starting off on the same page, so. Yeah, I'm feeling more confident.
Jeff
Starting at rock bottom can only go up from here. Let's begin by learning the name of the guy that you met recently.
Jackie
The guy's name is Steve. We went on a date, like, last Thursday.
Jeffrey
Thursday.
Brooke
And is there something that stood out about Steve, or was it just not horrible and that's why you're okay with it?
Jackie
Well, yeah, pretty much. In the last couple months, I've been trying to say yes to anyone that asked me out.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Jeff
Okay. Cast a wide net sort of thing.
Jackie
Yeah, I'm putting myself out there.
Brooke
Okay. Like everybody tells you to, Right?
Jackie
And most of them have been, eh, okay. But with Steve, it was actually a really good date.
Jeff
Oh, all right.
Brooke
I mean, I could even see the hope in your voice when you say that.
Jeff
Yeah, not super hopeful, just, like, not the worst thing ever. So where was that date?
Jackie
It was really fun. We went to a farmer's market, and we were just walking around, like, sampling the foods and talking, laughing and having fun for it was, I don't know, hour and a half.
Brooke
Okay, okay, this is good. It's a day date. Nobody's, like, drinking too much. I mean, did you meet there?
Jackie
Yes, we met at the farmer's market, and then at the end, he walked me back to my car. And, you know, normally I don't kiss someone on the first date, especially a day date, but the connection was really strong.
Brooke
So you had a cute first kiss after a farmer's market date?
Jackie
Yes. And then he looked me in the eyes and said, I had a really great time and I want to see you again soon.
Aura
Why did you keep hanging out after
Jeffrey
that first kiss of death?
Jeff
You don't want eye contact when that happens.
Brooke
What, you want to look away in shame? Don't look at me.
Jeff
Yeah, that's something.
Brooke
Of course you want eye contact. Eye contact is so intimate and nice.
Jeff
Exactly.
Brooke
You believed him, right?
Jackie
I did. And I told him that I had an amazing time and I would love to see him again.
Jeff
And there it is again.
Brooke
What?
Jeff
It's too much.
Jackie
I didn't do anything.
Brooke
Not too much. He said, I want to see you again. She said, I want to see you again. That's not too much.
Jeff
I can see how maybe you would think that, but for a guy saying, I really like you, it's the most terrifying thing in the world.
Jackie
He said, that to me.
Jeff
Yeah, but you're not supposed to say it back to him.
Jackie
Oh, my God, Jeff.
Brooke
What are you, 14?
Jeff
Brooke, I've done enough of these to know how to play the game. And being honest and open with how you really feel is the absolute worst thing you can do.
Brooke
See, I disagree.
Jackie
That was not the problem. Because that same day, he texts me and he said, Sunday. Does that work? I'll pick you up for dinner, and maybe we can grab a drink after.
Jeff
Okay, I stand corrected. Possibly.
Brooke
Thank you. So what happened Sunday?
Jackie
So I texted back, Yes, 100. I'm in, and gave him a little high five emoji. And on Saturday, he texts me and says, hey, I'm gonna have to cancel on Sunday. Sorry.
Brooke
Okay. Did he try to reschedule?
Jackie
No, he didn't say anything else. Doesn't explain nothing. And so I just texted back, no problem. Let's figure out another time.
Jeff
Did he respond to your.
Aura
No.
Jackie
No response.
Brooke
Steve, come on, Steve. How many days has that been?
Jackie
It's been a week now. Okay, but here's the thing. So this is the only guy that I've connected with. Like, and now he's ghosting me. I mean, it's so unbelievably frustrating.
Brooke
I mean, it sounds like you're doing this not just for Steve, but to make up for every other bad thing that has happened in your dating life. Like, you need this to go right,
Jackie
And I really just want to know why. I mean, like, what happened?
Brooke
Right.
Jeff
Well, you said it's been a week. Maybe he's learned something about you in between that period of time? Like, you don't have to answer this, but have you served time in prison?
Brooke
That could be hot, though. I mean, if it's for the right crime. Yeah.
Jeff
Like, even, like, a minor.
Jackie
No, I have not.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Jeff
No prison. Is there anything that's available online to the public that somebody could come across and might be like, oh, God, this is a red flag.
Jackie
Seriously? There's nothing that I can think of.
Brooke
Okay, okay.
Graham
All right.
Jeff
Well, this is definitely a mystery.
Brooke
Maybe he just had a bad reaction to the baba ganoush you guys had at the farmer's market. Wasn't able to recover.
Jeff
I don't even know what that is.
Alexis
Is that your food of choice market?
Brooke
I don't know. I was just at a hummus stand last weekend. So hot.
Graham
Yes.
Jeff
So let's come back.
Jeffrey
We're gonna definitely got kisses from her husband after that.
Jeff
Oh, totally. We're gonna come back and call Steve for you here and hopefully get an Explanation for why he isn't arranging a second date. Or let you give up on dating forever. Oh, that's what she wants.
Brooke
Yeah, no, you're right.
Jackie
You might. No, that's where I'm at. I'm serious. I am done.
Brooke
All right, well, I'm hopeful.
Jeff
Yes. Let's push you back from the cliff. And when we get your second date update, right after this. Hold on.
Brooke (Ad Segment)
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeff
Today, the entire future of a woman's dating life lies inside of our tender throats.
Brooke
Oh, no. Our throats.
Jeff
Yeah, because if we don't say the right thing and get Steve to agree to another date, Jackie has already said she is ready to give up on finding love forever.
Alexis
No pressure.
Brooke
You definitely don't need to tell Steve this.
Graham
No.
Jeff
Yeah, but I'm sure that won't happen anymore. Anyway. Because they went to a farmer's market.
Jackie
Hot, you know, sober.
Jeff
Walked around, had a great eye contact the whole time. Soup's hot.
Jackie
See?
Brooke
Hot. And organic.
Jeff
Jack. Yeah, they laughed. Even planned out another date after telling each other they both wanted to see each other again.
Jeffrey
That's what's confusing.
Brooke
You forgot the great first kiss. Yeah, that was such a big deal. That was like the moment. Right?
Jeff
Well, I thought when I said farmer's market, kissing was implied. Cause who doesn't? But, yeah, it was all going according to plan until the day before their second date when Steve texted canceling with no explanation and then went dark. So, Brooke, your thoughts on the situation at hand?
Brooke
Oh, God. I just feel like it's not going to be good if he's in a different relationship. Like if he's cheating or.
Jeff
Well, hold on, Brooke. How can he cheat if they've only gone on one date?
Brooke
No, no, no. Not cheating on her. Cheating on whoever he's dating.
Jeffrey
Cheating on someone.
Jeff
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're saying Jackie could be the.
Jackie
Well, I mean, it's just like a day date.
Jeff
Jackie, are you cool with being the other woman?
Jackie
Absolutely not.
Jeff
You didn't say that. We didn't say that. Okay.
Brooke
It is good to check. Yeah.
Jeff
All right. Hopefully that's not what the situation.
Brooke
I don't want it to be that. I don't.
Alexis
I hope it's just busy at other
Jeff
farmers markets scoping out the best spots.
Alexis
Yeah, yeah.
Jeff
The best aubergines or whatever Brooke likes to eat.
Jeffrey
Is he a farmer?
Jeff
Yeah. Does he work there?
Aura
He is not a farmer.
Jeff
Okay.
Jeffrey
All right, all right.
Jeff
We've ruled out a couple possibilities. Abilities. Let's just call him and see if he picks up, I'm dialing his number right now. Here we go.
Graham
Hello?
Jeff
Hey, is this Steve?
Graham
Yeah, who's this?
Jeff
Hey. Hey, man.
Brooke
What's up, Steve?
Jeffrey
Good morning.
Jeff
You're. You're on a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Graham
Oh, great.
Brooke
We're gonna take that without any sarcasm attached to it.
Jeff
But I like your style already, Steve.
Graham
I can tell what's going on.
Jeff
Well, what's going on is this is a segment that we do called a Second date Update. I don't know if you've ever heard of that before.
Graham
Nope.
Brooke
Okay, keep going.
Jeff
Okay. But it's actually a kind of a fun thing that we do where we help out listeners who are confused after they're not getting a call back for a second date date. We try and help them figure out the reason why.
Graham
And.
Jeff
Okay, there's a woman that you went out with recently. Actually, you planned a second date with her, but canceled the last minute. Her name's Jackie.
Graham
I. I don't really want to talk about this.
Jeffrey
Hold on, bro. Is this sensitive to you?
Graham
I. I feel bad.
Brooke
Can I ask, Are you single?
Jeffrey
Brooke's dying to ask.
Jeff
Brooke says it with so much hope.
Graham
Here's the deal.
Alexis
Oh, no.
Jeffrey
Here's the deal.
Brooke
Wait a minute.
Jeff
Oh, God. What? What's the deal?
Graham
I did have a strong connection with her, but if she knew what was going on, it would probably hurt her feelings, so it's better left unsaid.
Jeffrey
Oh, well, I think trying to protect someone's feelings hurts them more. You may want to be direct.
Brooke
That's true.
Alexis
I think her feelings hurt.
Jeff
Yeah, because she was really looking forward to that second hangout. And when you canceled with no explanation. Now she's just kind of confused. She was all excited, doesn't know where she stands. We're just trying to give her a little bit of information.
Graham
It's just I had a stronger romantic connection with somebody else, and I didn't think it would be fair to her to continue.
Jeffrey
So you.
Jackie
Oh, my God, you're so disgusting.
Jeff
Okay, everybody. Okay, everybody who's on the call right now, let's try and be respectful.
Brooke
What?
Jeff
And hear Steve out.
Jackie
I can't listen to this anymore. Steve is a cheater.
Brooke
Tell him that. Jackie's on the phone.
Jeff
Hold on. Because.
Jackie
No, he knows it's me. He knows it's me, and I know a cheater when I smell one.
Jeffrey
Oh, you smell it?
Brooke
I'm sorry. Wait, wait, wait, wait. I think that's my fault. Jackie, hold on.
Jackie
On what?
Brooke
I feel like I Put that idea in your head. He didn't say he cheated. He just said that he. He went out with someone else and had a stronger connection.
Jeffrey
He didn't quite.
Jackie
Yeah, but whatever. He was gonna cheat on me eventually.
Jeff
Hold on. You're making a lot of assumptions here, Jackie, and I. I know you're definitely hurt by what you heard, but let's give Steve a chance to explain himself.
Graham
I spoke my piece. I don't have much else to say.
Brooke
Okay, okay, so you're just.
Jackie
You know what, Steve? I have more to say.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Jeff
Oh, God.
Jackie
So when we were walking around the farmer's market, and I didn't want to drink some water fountain because it's, like, public and gross, you never offered to buy me a drink.
Brooke
What?
Jackie
What was up with that?
Jeffrey
She's, like, holding on to that.
Alexis
Where'd that come from?
Jackie
Selfish. He's selfish, and he's probably selfish in bed.
Brooke
W. W. Jackie, you are all over the place right now. I understand your feelings are hurt because this didn't turn out how you wanted it to, but this is not the reaction that you are gonna want to have. Have.
Jeff
And honestly, I've never made that correlation before with guys not being good in bed that don't buy water for their women.
Jackie
Well, you know, you're also a guy.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Jeff
Well, that's fair.
Jeffrey
And Jeff loves water.
Jeff
I am.
Graham
I drink.
Jeff
I keep it all to myself. Jeremy, can you confirm that you're a selfish guy? Oh, sorry. Steve, can you confirm that you're a selfish guy?
Graham
I don't know what's happening.
Jeff
I just. I just want to know what's your take on this whole situation?
Graham
Went on a good day. I just had a stronger connection with someone else. I'm sorry.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
Oh, great.
Jackie
You're rubbing that in my face again.
Brooke
In your face? Jackie, you know what?
Jackie
He is. He's rubbing it in my face. He chose a over me.
Jeff
Oh, okay.
Brooke
You don't even know who I went out with.
Jeffrey
You don't know.
Brooke
She was probably a lovely person.
Jackie
You guys, what are you doing? You're, like, spinning this to make him the victim. He is not the victim here.
Jeffrey
It's just a victim of circumstances.
Brooke
It's just how dating works. Yeah, sometimes you meet somebody you like more.
Jeff
I don't think he's in a rel. Like, a committed relationship with this other person. It sounds like just a casual date, right?
Graham
Steve, I really don't think I should say anymore.
Jackie
You know what? You know what's really sad? I really wanted to see your basement I never got to see your basement.
Alexis
Basement?
Jeffrey
Now you're just saying random stuff.
Jeff
Actually, I would.
Brooke
Did he offer a tour of a basement?
Jeffrey
You didn't say yes to that.
Jeff
I was kind of thinking the same thing. I wonder what's in his basement.
Jackie
Come on, Steve, tell them.
Jeff
What is she talking about?
Graham
I have a movie room in my basement. And we talked about that.
Brooke
Apparently she had a lot of hopes based around that movie room.
Jackie
I didn't get to see it.
Brooke
Steve, don't say.
Alexis
It has a little popcorn maker in there, too.
Brooke
I was all on Steve's side until he just poured salt in the wound.
Jeff
Salt all over that popcorn.
Brooke
Popcorn makeup.
Jackie
You know what?
Graham
Sorry. It's a dope basement. And yes, I have multiple flavored salt.
Jackie
Oh, wow.
Graham
That is kind of cool.
Jeffrey
You got that ranch.
Jackie
You need to go. You need to go now.
Jeffrey
All right, hang up.
Jeff
Okay.
Brooke
I think maybe you just need to work on yourself right now, Jackie.
Jeffrey
Let's do a little self reflecting.
Graham
Yeah, I suck it.
Jackie
No, no, no, no, no, you don't. See, I'm deleting your texts. I'm blocking your number. You're never gon again. And I want you to know you lost out on something really good.
Jeff
Really good, really stable type of relationship. So, Steve, I'm sorry, dude.
Graham
It's fine. I feel like I dodged a bullet. It's like I'm watching the Matrix in my face.
Brooke
Hang up on him.
Jackie
Hang up on him. I said hang up on him. I don't want to hear from him. Hang on.
Jeff
Okay, Steve, you jump back, you're gone.
Brooke
Yeah.
Graham
All right.
Jeff
We dropped Steve.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Aura
That.
Jeff
Okay, Jackie. Oh, my God.
Jeffrey
He is a cheater girl.
Brooke
No, don't add on.
Jeff
Oh, wow.
Jackie
No, no, no, no, no, no. You guys, honestly, it's fine. I know men. After that, he is definitely going to reach out to me. Like, a little crazy.
Jeffrey
I mean, that's actually kind of true.
Brooke
The little is a different definition.
Jeff
Are you saying you put all of that on just to, like, get him to call you?
Jackie
I mean, I juiced it up a little bit, but I'm legitimately pissed.
Jeff
Oh, that was a little bit.
Brooke
I can't imagine what a lot is.
Jeff
I know. I'm afraid to see full blown. All right, well, Jackie, after you take your hiatus from the dating world, call us and we can reach out to that next guy for you.
Jackie
Yeah, no, I'm going to hear from Steve.
Jeffrey
Call him in two years.
Jeff
You heard about that basement, right? It is pretty dumb. Okay, I don't blame you.
Jackie
I'm not going to block him and then he's going to call me and you guys will end up doing an update update on me.
Brooke
Oh that's a bold about your healthy relationship.
Jeff
I'm sure the direction this is going to go.
Jeffrey
You manifest a lot differently than I do.

Jeff
Was it me or did it feel like she definitely had a plan of attack there?
Brooke
What happened?
Jeffrey
I don't know, man. She went 0 to 100 though.
Brooke
And then she said she like what? Sauced it up, juiced it up? I don't know. She did.
Jackie
She had some.
Jeffrey
It was all on purpose.
Brooke
It was an emotional roller coaster and I'm exhausted.
Jeff
The second he mentioned a stronger connection with another woman, she completely went off the handle.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
But oh man, wouldn't it be something though, know if after all of this
Brooke
she was right that he did call her back?
Jeff
Yeah. Like Steve thinks about it and he's like, you know what? She's kind of unhinged, but I kind of like it.
Alexis
Okay.
Jeffrey
Also, I would have cheated.
Jeff
Yeah, she's right on every level.
Brooke
The only way Steve's calling her back is if it doesn't work out with the other girl.
Graham
Yeah.
Aura
Yeah.
Brooke
I mean, then I could see it maybe happening and then it's like a hookup thing probably.
Jeff
Sure. It's probably a less than 1% chance that it all goes down the way that she's thinking, but wouldn't that be
