Brooke
It's always a good sign when your day asks to speak to the manager, Right?
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
Right at the beginning. Yeah, right at the beginning.
Dutch Vet Service Advertiser
All right.
Brooke
We're gonna get into that with a brand new second date. Welcome to the podcast. We're so glad you're here.
Annabe Advertiser
Excuse me.
Jeffrey
I'd like to complain.
Brooke
This is going too well. Yeah, I'm sure that's what it was. I'm sure that's what it was.
Jeffrey
Where's the Dr. Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
All right.
Brooke
We're going to get to that in just a second. But we love starting with your comments. And we've been doing on Sunday, we've been hosting our full show just once a week. We don't want to give you too much of us because. I get it.
Jeffrey
I need a day off here.
Annabe Advertiser
Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah. Even for myself. So what do you see? Alexis?
Dutch Vet Service Advertiser
Yeah.
Brooke
Someone said, hello, this is Eustace from Cameroon. I like listening to you guys while working on my spreadsheets. I'm a finance guy. I used to skip the one plus hour full sessions, but listening to this was rather amazing. All right.
Jeffrey
Right.
Brooke
My mom loves spreadsheets. I don't understand people like you, but there is a thrill in them. Yeah.
Jeffrey
Cameroon. How beautiful. Yeah. I would just be the best place to be a financier.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Financial guy.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Whatever it is.
Brooke
We don't do Excel here. All right, let's get into your brand new second date right now.
Jeffrey
Second date update. Brooke, you'd agree with me that it's important in the dating world to know what you want.
Brooke
Yeah, for sure. I think it's important in life.
Jeffrey
Yeah. But it's equally important to know what you don't want.
Brooke
Sometimes that's how you figure out what you do want.
Jeffrey
Like Alexis, she does not want labels.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Jeffrey
Even if one day down the road she gets married. Don't put a label on that.
Brooke
That's right. He's just my guy friend. Lives with you.
Jenna
Yeah.
Brooke
Fathered a couple children.
Jeffrey
Exactly. You know, put a label on that. That's gross. And one of our listeners knows exactly what she doesn't want, and that's a second date with the guy she went out with.
Brooke
Then why is she calling us?
Jeffrey
She does want an.
Brooke
Oh, she's mad.
Jeffrey
She deserves that. So let's talk to her. Jenna, welcome to the show.
Jenna
Hi, everyone.
Jeffrey
Did he block you and now you got to use us to tell him off?
Jenna
Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I. I'm just. No, I'm furious.
Brooke
Okay, okay. All right. You're beyond mad.
Jenna
I'm beyond mad. And I hate that I am expending energy on this, but, like, it's not okay. What happened? And I just need to know, like, what the heck?
Brooke
Okay. I think we need some explaining because you sound really serious.
Jeffrey
I feel like I have information that I need out of that little convo, but if you want to give us some details, I'm cool with that.
Brooke
Yeah, like the guy's name to start with.
Jeffrey
Yeah. What is his name?
Jenna
His name is Peter.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Peter.
Jenna
We hate Peter.
Brooke
Yeah, Peter.
Jenna
Yeah. That should have been red flag number one.
Brooke
Oh, okay.
Jeffrey
There's some guy Peter in his car, like, oh, yeah.
Dutch Vet Service Advertiser
Okay.
Jeffrey
Well, we'll give grace to most other Peters, but this Peter, we're not a fan. Yeah. Why? Why do we hate Peter?
Jenna
So we met on a dating app, but I don't usually meet a lot of guys. Like, I'll talk to a lot of people just to, like, get a vibe or whatever, but I don't say yes to a lot of dates because ew.
Brooke
Because.
Jeffrey
Because ew.
Jenna
You can meet some quality people on there, but that's not what this is about. Exactly. It's rare.
Brooke
So you thought Peter was quality in the beginning, I'm assuming, since you did say yes.
Jenna
Right. And, like, he honestly should feel lucky that I said yes.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Oh, wow. You're a little out of his league or what?
Jenna
At this point. Yeah, at this point.
Jeffrey
Okay. But going in, obviously you had a little bit of optimism for how the date would go. So, like, what happened?
Jenna
So when I feel like the person who's asking for the date should be the one who plans the date, so that seems fair. Yeah, I said that to him. He said he made a reservation. Fine. We decided to meet there. Safety first.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Jenna
And we get there and he checks in with the hostess, and they're like, oh, yeah, it's going to be 15 minute wait. And I was like, hold up. Hold the phone.
Brooke
Oh, is that when you stop talking to him?
Jeffrey
15 minutes?
Brooke
Is it like, it's usually like, five, actually, when they say that too.
Jeffrey
That is true. Why are you saying hold the phone?
Jenna
Because if he made a reservation, we shouldn't have to wait.
Brooke
No, but that's the thing about reservations. I've often had to wait for a res.
Jeffrey
But you're obviously not on the same level as Jenna is, so, you know, it's not fair to compare yourself. Nice, Jeff. Sorry about that.
Brooke
So wait, you're. You're already getting upset because you're waiting, and you think he's lying about making a reservation? Is that what you're.
Jenna
I wasn't sure because he was just, like, okay with the weight. So I'm like, that feels iffy.
Brooke
Okay?
Jeffrey
Like, you want the guy to step up and be like, excuse me, I made the reservation for this time.
Jenna
I wanted him to handle it because you never know when 15 minutes can turn into 20 or 30. And, like, I don't want to spend all night waiting for a table. So I ended up speaking with the hostess and then with the manager.
Brooke
Oh, God. So you're 15 minutes into a date, and you're already talking to the manager?
Jenna
Well, I didn't wait the 15 minutes. Like, I spoke with the hostess. She brought in the manager. I didn't ask for the manager.
Jeffrey
And Brooke, she's only doing that because her date is dragging his feet on doing it. He's just cool with whatever.
Brooke
But it sounds like you're already starting to work yourself up. Like, you're already starting to get upset. Like, in a bad mood mood.
Annabe Advertiser
Predate, maybe.
Jenna
Yeah, I'm not in a bad mood. And if I was in a bad mood, it wasn't my fault. The restaurant put me in a bad mood by making me wait. My date put me in a bad mood by not fixing the situation. And after my conversation with the manager, magically, I was seated, and I turned around, and they got me a few free drinks. They offered me an appetizer.
Jeffrey
This is why complaining always pays off.
Brooke
This does feel like something you would do, Jeff.
Jeffrey
Yes, I come out on top elite status.
Brooke
So is you. Are you and your date back on? You're feeling good now, you're feeling cared for, and everybody's happy, right?
Jenna
Well, I sat down and, like, I'm having my drink, and I turn around, and he's just gone. Like, he vanished without saying a word.
Jeffrey
Wait, what?
Jenna
Yeah, and I tried to call him. He's not responding. He won't answer text messages. He won't pick up phone calls. I mean, I did his job.
Jeffrey
Exactly. You put in all the work, and now he's deciding to walk away. That's rude, right? Brooke, I.
Brooke
You know, I.
Jeffrey
That's right. Yes, you are right, Jeff. This guy's a jerk.
Brooke
I'm imagining, like, my husband. Husband Going out with you on a first date. He would have been so mortified and embarrassed that he just wouldn't have wanted to even speak to the restaurant staff after that incident. So he probably just left.
Jeffrey
There's a clear line here. Some people are team Jenna, and some people seem to be team Peter in this room.
Brooke
Team restaurant employee. I mean, here's the thing. Are you really that confused about why he left?
Jenna
Yeah, I want answers. I'm pissed. He wasted my time, he wasted my energy, my makeup products. Hello.
Jeffrey
And Brooke. Sure, maybe he. He didn't want to be on the date anymore, but shouldn't he have at least had the gentleman courtesy to say something to her? Be a man like your husband. I'm sure would have been. And ditch before he ditched you on the date.
Brooke
I'm just sure. But I'm guessing.
Jeffrey
Thank you. That's all that.
Brooke
We need the bucks.
Jeffrey
This guy deserves to answer up for the cowardly move that he did. By ditching him? By not saying anything. Jenna, we're all on board with you, despite the words you might hear.
Jenna
Thank you guys so much for your support. I appreciate, appreciate you, Jenna.
Jeffrey
And we would love if you left a five star review on our podcast when you're done with this. It would really go a long way.
Jenna
Absolutely.
Jeffrey
Okay, perfect.
Brooke
So let's wait till segment two before she.
Jeffrey
Actually, no, I wanted. I wanted to put it now before segment two, because who knows what's going to happen when we come back. We're going to call Peter and we'll see what he has to say in your second date update. Right after this second date update. The room seems very divided about this call with our listener Jenna, who told us that she's extremely upset since her date Peter told her that he made dinner reservations, but they showed up and the hostess said, well, actually, you're gonna need to wait an extra 15 minutes.
Brooke
Wait, there's no scream after you said that, Jeff. Like what, Jenna?
Jeffrey
Jenna didn't scream. She was just like, I don't understand why. I thought we had reservations for that time.
Brooke
I think she may have been a little more forceful than that, but yeah.
Jeffrey
Meanwhile, spineless Peter wouldn't say a word, so Jenna had to step up and calmly confront the manager herself. And guess what happened? She got results immediately. Oh, I guess a table was available and was even given free Drinks and food for her trouble. And where was Peter? Who knows? Quivering Pete had dipped out without saying a single word. Those are Brooks words, by the way, not mine.
Brooke
I hate when you just quote me like that.
Jeffrey
Yeah, it's true. And, Brooke, I am just curious, though, because I was getting the vibe in the first part that you took issue with Jenna's approach to how she handled the situation. And I'm just wondering, would it be different if they had a reservation and it was an extra 45 minutes an hour? Would her actions be warranted if the time length was different? I mean. Good question.
Brooke
Those are all, like, what ifs. Like, that's not what happened.
Jeffrey
Because, you know. Because you know that I'm right.
Brooke
No, it's not like hypotheticals, and hypotheticals will always get you in trouble.
Jeffrey
Okay, Jenna, I'm trying to get them onto your side. I'm doing everything in my power. They still want to be Team Peter for some reason.
Jenna
Brooke, I get the vibe that you don't support me, and I've heard on your show that you support women, and honestly, I don't feel supported right now.
Jeffrey
Yeah, where are you?
Brooke
I just don't know that you should be so mystified that Peter's not interested. I think.
Jeffrey
I don't think. I don't think that's it, though. I don't think she's mystified about why he's not interested. She's just. Just not understanding why he took the approach where he did without saying a word. He was rude.
Jenna
Yeah. I just want to know, like, what he was thinking to make such a cowardly decision to just leave without saying anything.
Jeffrey
We don't know what we're gonna get if Peter answers the phone.
Brooke
All right, let's call it. Let's stop speculating.
Jeffrey
Maybe he will own up to all the mistakes that he made that day, but let's find out.
Brooke
I bet you. I bet Jenna will be very kind and forgiving of it.
Jeffrey
Yes. We're not dealing with. With hypotheticals, as you so eloquently said earlier. So how does that taste? Let's just take some real action and.
Brooke
Dial the number, give you a hypothetical, even. Make sense that's being said in this room right now.
Jeffrey
Enough from the peanut gallery. Let's get some answers. Here we go.
Peter
Hello?
Jeffrey
Wow. Answered on the first ring. Yikes. Gentleman.
Brooke
What are you talking about, yikes?
Jeffrey
Is this Peter?
Brooke
That is such a bad way to start a conversation.
Jeffrey
Peter, Hello? Hello? Is this you?
Peter
Yeah. Who is this?
Jeffrey
Well, you should know us because we're a Very popular radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. You may have heard of us or.
Brooke
Jenna's really rubbed off on you. Yeah, it brought out the Karen Feels good.
Peter
What is happening right now?
Jeffrey
Well, what's happening is a segment called the Second Date Update where we're trying to help out one of our listeners, one of our very good friends. It's true. Her name is Jenna and you went on a date with her recently. You almost went on a date with her, I should say.
Brooke
Well, you waited five minutes with her in the restaurant lobby.
Jeffrey
Is this ringing a bell? Yeah.
Peter
Yeah, that happened.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
All right. I'd love just your first impression of Jenna.
Peter
I mean, she's pretty. She seemed cool on the app. And then I even went out of my way to call a buddy and get a reservation at a new restaurant.
Jeffrey
Oh, dude, you pulled some strings. People don't even know how to do that. We heard that there were supposedly reservations that were made. But when you arrived to the restaurant, things didn't go that smoothly.
Peter
Yeah, look, I mean, it was swamped, okay? I mean, it's a new place.
Brooke
It makes sense for a new restaurant. There's like systems that they don't have in place yet. Sometimes they get behind.
Jeffrey
Sounds like they don't have their stuff together.
Brooke
No, that's just a trend. It's totally normal for a new restaurant to not have all beers or. Yeah.
Jeffrey
Sorry to interrupt you there, Peter. Keep going.
Peter
I don't know, guys. It was just pretty awkward because, I mean, we get there, we. And she finds out there's a 15 minute way. I mean, my goodness. Pretty much kind of has a temper tantrum. She even said, like, do you know who I am?
Dutch Vet Service Advertiser
What?
Brooke
She said, dad, no.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Peter
Like, starts whipping out her phone, showing her 20,000 followers she has and everything.
Jeffrey
Oh, she's an influencer. Or she just has like 20,000. 20,000 is not really an influence. That's pretty good.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Brooke sounds a little bit jealous of you.
Brooke
I am not interested in how many followers people have, and I think that's such a weird flex.
Peter
Right? So then it was just so awkward and I just dipped. I was like, get over yourself.
Jeffrey
Okay, well.
Brooke
Okay, so is there a reason why you didn't tell her, like, hey, man, that was too much for me. I'm leaving.
Peter
I just couldn't be with a girl like that, you know? I'm like, get over yourself. I mean, I left and I had to. As I was going home, I had to like, text my buddy, like, hey, I'm so sorry, Peter. No, I had to apologize.
Jenna
No, Peter. Sorry. Like, just so you know, like, I've seen mannequins with more initiative than you.
Peter
Oh, wait, what?
Jeffrey
Yeah. So, Peter, you couldn't figure it out? That's Jenna on the other line. She's been listening to this call. Normally we. We have them wait, but.
Brooke
Yeah, she's not a patient girl, remember?
Jeffrey
Yeah, I don't blame her either. That was kind of a long explanation on your end, to be fair.
Brooke
Exactly what we thought had happened.
Jeffrey
Yeah, could have summarized it a little bit quicker, but go ahead.
Jenna
Jenna, I honestly don't appreciate being mischaracterized. I am not. I never said. Do you know who I am? Like, who says that anymore?
Peter
I heard you say it.
Brooke
Oh, so what?
Jenna
Maybe I did.
Peter
Maybe I did it.
Jenna
But at least we got a table. You had one chance to act like a man, and you went full on npc.
Brooke
Npc? What does that stand for?
Jenna
Non playable character.
Jeffrey
Yeah, bro, come on now, you're not a gamer.
Jenna
Come on.
Brooke
Brooke, it sounds like he didn't want to play.
Peter
Yeah, I didn't. I didn't want to be a part of it, Right?
Jeffrey
Yeah, but there's a level of decorum that usually comes into dates where you tell someone, hey, I don't know if this is gonna work out or I gotta go just dipping out.
Brooke
What is he supposed to do? He's supposed to say something, and then Jenna is gonna go nuclear on him and make a scene in the restaurant next and embarrass his buddy even more.
Jeffrey
Well, he apologized to his budd. Apologize to the manager and everybody except for Jenna.
Brooke
But why does she deserve apology? I guess is my question.
Jenna
Brooke, you're supposed to support women's rights and wrong.
Brooke
You know, women can still be a holes. Jenna, I'm sorry. It's just.
Jenna
You're right. And you're being one right now.
Jeffrey
Brooke. Yeah. Brooke, I don't understand why you're attacking Jenna. She came to us for help here.
Brooke
I'm not attacking anyone. It's just, I.
Jeffrey
You're calling her an anal?
Brooke
Well, she's kind of being one, but.
Jeffrey
Yeah, now you double down on it.
Brooke
Here's the thing. Like, Jenna, how could anyone calmly talk to you? And in that moment, we're talking about.
Jenna
The wrong thing here. Like, we need to talk about who gets done, and I do. Okay, I got us the table and he did nothing.
Peter
I mean, this is just outrageous. I mean, Jenna, you're a beautiful girl, but get over yourself.
Jenna
I'm just gonna take that as an apology. That you won't get over me.
Jeffrey
Oh, wow. Okay.
Brooke
I like how you just take what you want.
Jenna
Ye.
Brooke
You know, I don't know how you got there. I'm trying to figure.
Peter
Jenna, what you're saying doesn't even make.
Jenna
Any sense, so I just want an apology.
Jeffrey
I mean, I think that's a fair ask. Just one tiny apology for all the trouble that Jenna had to go through to get her table.
Brooke
And then in return, will Jenna then apologize to the restaurant manager?
Jeffrey
The restaurant gave her free food and drinks for their own mistake. They admitted they were wrong. 15 minutes late for her reservation.
Brooke
She didn't even wait 15 minutes.
Jenna
You guys, you know what? At this point, I don't even just want an apology from Peter. I want an apology from Brooke, too.
Jeffrey
Okay. All right, Brooke, why don't you be a good role model and show Peter how a good apology is done?
Brooke
I don't think it's healthy to apologize for something that you didn't do wrong.
Jeffrey
Right.
Brooke
I'm not going to take blame for Jenna's behavior. I'm sorry.
Jeffrey
Well, maybe you should apologize for the outfit that you chose to wear today, because this is a pain to answer.
Brooke
She is in, like, a Snuggie blanket. Jeff, what is this? I am sorry, okay? I'm sorry for that.
Jeffrey
Jenna, I'm going to pass that apology over to you. Peter, now's your chance to apologize for ditching out on Jenna without a word. Ready? Three, two, one.
Peter
And you know when they say you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. That's why I left. And, oh, I just got to back Brooke on this. I mean, I. I can't condone bad behavior like that. I'm sorry.
Brooke
Yeah.
Peter
All right.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that was. That was a long winded way of almost saying absolutely nothing. Yeah. Could have just said, I'm sorry.
Brooke
Jenna did not get what she wanted. Anyway.
Jeffrey
Jenna, I'm so, so sorry that you had to go through all of this. Do we offer a date?
Jenna
Thank you.
Brooke
She didn't want one to start.
Dutch Vet Service Advertiser
That's right.
Jeffrey
I mean, I'm a man of action, like Jenna is. So I will take action and offer to put you two together one more time for another redo.
Jenna
No, thanks.
Jeffrey
Okay. At least I tried. Yeah, at least I'm the only one in the room who did it. So.
Jenna
Did you hear that, Peter? I said no before you did.
Jeffrey
Yep, you got it. Spineless Peter comes through.
Brooke
Once again, she wins.
Peter
Oh, my God.
Jeffrey
Look at Jeffrey in the morning.

Date: November 10, 2025
This episode of "Second Date Update" dives into a first date gone spectacularly wrong. The panel—Brooke, Jeffrey, and their colleagues—investigate both sides, leading to a fiery face-off that highlights clashing expectations, personalities, and the modern dating landscape's pitfalls.

“If he made a reservation, we shouldn't have to wait.” — Jenna [07:22]
“I’m imagining my husband going out with you on a first date. He would have been so mortified and embarrassed that he just wouldn’t have wanted to even speak to the restaurant staff after that incident.” — Brooke [09:37]
“You know, women can still be a-holes. Jenna, I’m sorry.” — Brooke [18:03] “You’re right. And you’re being one right now.” — Jenna [18:07]
“She even said, like, do you know who I am?” — Peter [15:46]
“I just couldn’t be with a girl like that, you know? … I left and I had to, as I was going home, text my buddy like: ‘Hey, I’m so sorry.’” — Peter [16:24]
“I never said, ‘Do you know who I am?’ Like, who says that anymore?” — Jenna [17:02] “You had one chance to act like a man, and you went full on NPC.” — Jenna [17:15]
“I just want an apology.” — Jenna [18:58]
“You know when they say you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. That’s why I left.” — Peter [20:00]
This episode is a prime example of why "Second Date Update" is known for its high drama and entertainment value. It explores uncomfortable gray areas in modern dating—initiative versus pushiness, conflict resolution, and social expectations. The hosts' banter, Jenna's candor, and Peter's awkward honesty all make for a cringe-worthy yet compulsively listenable installment.
