Dan Aykroyd
I love writing more than anything. You're left alone, you know, you do three hours in the morning, you write three hours in the afternoon. Go pick up a kid from school and write at night. And after nine hours, you come out with seven pages and. And then you're moving on.

Hey, you found us. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning on our second date podcast. Not like, is that hard to find these days since we're charting on the top comedy charts every week on Spotify.
Jose
You're welcome. Yeah, I go to bed every night and I just stream it on thousand different laptops.
Jeffrey
Oh, you're the one that's doing it. How we're getting there.
Jose
I'm sorry, guys, but I'm tired of those ratings.
Kendrick
All right.
Jeffrey
Hey, thanks for being here. And don't forget we do have 45 more minutes of this painful show. If you can endure it over on our main feed, Just go to Brooke and Jeffrey for that one. But right now, let's get to what you came for. That's the second date.
Jose
Yes.
Bobby Bones
Second date update. You know, the picture you see on someone's dating profile compared to what they look like in real life can be vastly different. And just look at Jose in his passport photo, which hasn't been updated in 27 years.
Kendrick
Wow.
Jeffrey
It doesn't make any sense. Still.
Bobby Bones
He still has his baby teeth in his passport picture.
Jose
No, I was, like, in my, like, early 20s.
Jeffrey
But they make you take a picture and send it in every time you. Okay, I'm not going to go down this road again.
Bobby Bones
The point is, the photo compared to real life can be very, very shocking and different. And really, that first moment when you finally see your day in person can be huge.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Apparently that was the case for one of our listeners, Kendrick, who needs our help today. Kendrick, welcome to the show.
Kendrick
How's it going, guys?
Jeffrey
Okay. It's either your date was a good surprise or you were the bad surprise. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
We want to tell us about this woman that you met, where you met her.
Kendrick
I thought it was a good surprise. Well, we matched online. Okay.
Bobby Bones
And what's her name?
Kendrick
Danielle.
Jeffrey
Danielle. Okay, so before we find out what she looks like, what did her dating profile look like?
Kendrick
Oh, my gosh, she was gorgeous. Oh, she had all the right lighting, the right pictures, all that, the right lighting.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God. I'm dead.
Kendrick
Okay, there's no way she's gonna look like this in real life. Right.
Jeffrey
Oh, so you were even doubting it before you met her.
Kendrick
Right.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Set the expectations low for the in person meetup.
Jose
And this is kind of funny because there's two things. They either look really good in their profile. There's no way they look like that in real life. Or some people look way better in person.
Kendrick
Right.
Jose
Like, you see their profile, they're like, oh, my gosh. Like, you look better in natural light.
Bobby Bones
I know. That is what it's like hanging out with me. So tell us, what did you do for your date, Kendrick? Where'd you guys go?
Kendrick
So we chose to meet up, and we went to one of those big malls that, you know, has restaurants. Shopping mall.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Jeffrey
All right.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Jeffrey
That's very old school.
Kendrick
Right. So we were gonna walk around and then eventually grab a bite.
Jeffrey
Cool that you were there. But I want to know about the moment when you saw her for the first time in real life. Because that's the whole thing, right? Like, you were. You were shocked. Why were you shocked?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, run us through that.
Kendrick
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I got there first. So she walked in five minutes later, like, right after me, right? And oh, my God, I was like, bam. She looked like she just stepped out of a TV commercial.
Bobby Bones
Oh, a TV commercial.
Jose
Her hair's just flowing. She lifts off 10 side effects.
Jeffrey
She gives you two lawyers, 800 numbers.
Bobby Bones
What do you mean, like a TV commercial?
Kendrick
Well, she's not like a model, but, I mean, like, she looks like somebody who could be, like, running on a beach, you know, in slow motion, promoting yogurt.
Jeffrey
That's not a model. You activia separate than a normal model.
Jose
That's literally a model.
Kendrick
She just has a TV commercial glow.
Jose
Okay, wow.
Jeffrey
Okay, so you were definitely surprised. Like, she looked better than her photos.
Bobby Bones
Okay, yes, absolutely. So it was a good first meeting. Then how did the rest of the day at the mall go?
Kendrick
So we're walking around the mall. I had a big smile on my face because I knew people were looking at us thinking, how did that guy get hurt?
Jeffrey
Oh, and you like that?
Kendrick
Oh, love it.
Jeffrey
Oh, good for you.
Kendrick
I was trying not to stare at her a lot. I was making a lot of jokes, too.
Bobby Bones
Wait, sorry, you said you were making a lot of jokes?
Kendrick
Yes. Like, we went to one of those places that sells hats, and I said to her, you know, like, 90% of these hats have headlights in them.
Jeffrey
That's not a joke, my friend.
Bobby Bones
Wait, what? Wait, what?
Jeffrey
That is a serious Fear Unlocked.
Bobby Bones
What is the joke?
Kendrick
Well, I don't really think it's 90%. I just made that up because it sounds funny.
Jose
The joke is it's 21%.
Jeffrey
Did she laugh or was she. Yeah. Was she disgusted?
Jose
She's probably confused.
Jeffrey
We didn't get it.
Jose
She probably didn't get it.
Kendrick
She laughed. It was more the uncomfortable laugh, but she laughed a little bit.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Jose
She at least knew you were trying to joke.
Jeffrey
She laughed, and she slowly put the hat back.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so, okay, you're making jokes. You're comparing her to TV commercial.
Jose
Ladies, you should be in a headlights commercial.
Jeffrey
You gotta call her yogurt girl. Do it right.
Bobby Bones
I'm calling her Yoplait Princess is what I'm calling her. What did you and Yoplait Princess do from there?
Kendrick
So, finally showed up at the seafood buffet, but we had to put our names in because there was a lot of people there. So there's a little bit of a Wait.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Going to wait for it.
Kendrick
I was a gentleman. I pulled her chair out. I gave her compliments.
Bobby Bones
Good. Nice.
Kendrick
I walked her to her car afterwards, gave her a kiss.
Bobby Bones
Oh, you got a kiss?
Kendrick
Got a kiss. You know, nothing major, just a small little kiss. Okay. But the next day, I get a weird text that says, I can't freaking believe you. I don't date low lives. See ya.
Jeffrey
Oh, wait, What? What did it say after low lives? Her name.
Kendrick
She said, see ya.
Bobby Bones
See ya. Like, bye. Oh, God.
Kendrick
So I don't know what she's talking about. I tried to call her, but she sends me straight to voicemail every time. So I'm turning to you guys to try to figure out where I went wrong.
Jeffrey
If she has head lice and is.
Kendrick
Blaming you, bro, I didn't see any headlights when I got the kiss.
Jeffrey
I don't know if that's how you check, but okay.
Bobby Bones
What a weird thing to say. I can't believe you. Like, I don't date low lives. What could you have done?
Jose
She has a piece of information. I don't know what it is. She found something out. She saw something.
Jeffrey
And here's the thing. You have to know before we call her. It's not going to be good if she's calling you a low life.
Jose
Yeah, bro, that's an instant.
Kendrick
Oh, my God. Yeah, that's why I need to know what it is. What made me a Lola.
Bobby Bones
No.
Jose
All right, maybe it's like.
Jeffrey
Maybe it's something she misunderstood. I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I don't know. I'm not liking the tone of yo play princess right now. So we're gonna find out.
Jose
She sounds more like Gogurt goddess. Wait, Goddess is still good.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Jose
Like a dainty Danimal.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kendrick
Oh, my God.
Bobby Bones
We'll figure out what's wrong with this yogurt girl when we call her and get you your second date update. Right after this second date update. Yo play princess dancing around the beach with her crown and television cameras following her all around.
Jeffrey
It sounds adorable.
Bobby Bones
That wasn't the date. That's just what played in the head of our listener, Kendrick, when he saw Danielle for the very first time.
Jeffrey
She was TV commercial pretty.
Bobby Bones
That's right. They walked the mall together, almost got head lice trying on hats.
Jeffrey
Okay, that was just a joke he made Jeffrey.
Bobby Bones
It was funny. And they ended up at a seafood buffet. Had a really, really nice time. It all sounds great. But since then, the only communication he's got was a very troubling text from Danielle. What did her text say again? Kendrick?
Kendrick
I don't Date low lives like you. So. See ya.
Jeffrey
See ya.
Jose
You don't hear the term lowlife anymore. That hits.
Jeffrey
I also like the sia.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah, it sounds bad, but I've sent worse texts to my mother before and she still loves me, so there's a chance there's a good shot at redemption here.
Jeffrey
Did we hear. Did you respond to her?
Kendrick
No, I just tried to call her, but. Oh, she just sent me the voicemail immediately.
Jeffrey
You didn't like, like it or anything?
Bobby Bones
Okay, yeah. Let us do the dirty work for you. I feel you, man. So now we're gonna try again. See if she picks up. I'm gonna dial her number right now.
Kendrick
Here we go. All right.
Andrea Waters King
Hello?
Bobby Bones
Oh, why'd you go hello?
Jeffrey
I don't know. Because she's not going to want to talk to us because of that text.
Bobby Bones
Maybe the sigh. Hey, is this Danielle?
Andrea Waters King
Who's on the phone?
Bobby Bones
Good morning.
Jose
Hello.
Bobby Bones
Yes, a whole radio show is on the phone right now eager to talk to you. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeffrey
I'm a little nervous. Contact you, Daniel, to be honest.
Andrea Waters King
Why are you guys calling me?
Bobby Bones
Good question. We. We do this segment called a second date update. I'm not sure if you're familiar with that, but it's where we help out our listeners who went out on a date with somebody and they're not getting a second one to try and figure out why something went wrong. If there was a mistake that happened, we figured there must be some sort of thing that went wrong. Yeah. Based on the text message that you sent to our friend Kendrick the other day. Yeah.
Andrea Waters King
Oh, God.
Jose
Was not hard to decipher.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Andrea Waters King
Well, I will tell you this. I don't want anything to do with him, so I don't.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I think that that's clear. I think he's just totally confused as to why.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Andrea Waters King
Well, I don't like people who go through my personal things and make me feel uncomfortable and.
Jeffrey
Personal thing?
Kendrick
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I'm not sure what exactly you mean by that.
Andrea Waters King
Well, I don't know what he's told you or whatever happened, but he was in my business. Like literally in my bag, my wallet business.
Jeffrey
What?
Bobby Bones
What? What?
Jeffrey
Like how did he go through your. Yeah. Your purse, your wallet? What do you mean?
Andrea Waters King
I had to use the restroom, so I asked him if he'd hold my stuff from me.
Bobby Bones
Were you seated already at this point or is this while you were waiting?
Jose
He said there was a way.
Bobby Bones
He said there was a long wait.
Andrea Waters King
While we were waiting. I had went to the restroom.
Jeffrey
Oh, while you were waiting, you were, like, not in the restaurant. I mean, maybe lobby or something.
Bobby Bones
Gotcha.
Andrea Waters King
Okay, so my purse was only out of my possession for a moment, but I think that's when he went in my bag and snatched my stuff.
Bobby Bones
What stuff?
Jeffrey
Wait, now you're accusing him of stealing something from your bag?
Andrea Waters King
Well, it surely isn't fair anymore, and it sounds minute, but for me, it's the principle.
Bobby Bones
What did he take?
Andrea Waters King
My Jamba Juice card.
Jose
Oh, like a gift card?
Jeffrey
You took a gift card?
Bobby Bones
A gift card. Oh.
Jeffrey
What, was it loose or was it in your wallet?
Andrea Waters King
It was in my wallet. Right in the front of my wallet. Why is it in my purse to even go in my wallet?
Bobby Bones
Did you see him go through your purse and take your card? Or are you just assuming that because you were in the bathroom?
Andrea Waters King
I don't have to. Because how it's not gonna jump out of my wallet?
Jose
I don't know. I use things all the time. I swear, things can jump out of places.
Jeffrey
It's so weird to have such a specific, specific thing be stolen. Like, if he was gonna steal from you, it'd be like, I don't know, credit card or something. And why would he call us to get you on the phone?
Andrea Waters King
Hello? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Jose
Okay, he doesn't know that she knows.
Bobby Bones
Okay, and you don't know that he knows that he's been listening on the other line of this phone call the entire time, waiting to talk to you. You know what I mean?
Kendrick
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey. Why are you saying all this stuff about me I can't even defend.
Jeffrey
That's now your chance to defend yourself. I need to hear this.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, sorry. He's been on the other line listening, if that wasn't clear.
Jose
Yeah, he heard everything.
Jeffrey
Which, I mean, you need to tell him, like.
Andrea Waters King
Well, first of all, Kendrick, what were you doing in my purse? And why the hell would you take my Jamba Juice card?
Kendrick
I don't like having my name dragged through the mud like this without me being able to defend myself or say something.
Jeffrey
I don't want to say it.
Jose
Yeah, you're not giving you ways.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Are you saying you're innocent? That you didn't take it?
Kendrick
Well, no. I mean, I did. I did. I took it.
Jose
Kendrick, wait. I thought you were about to, like, just.
Kendrick
Hey.
Andrea Waters King
I knew it. I told you guys, okay?
Jeffrey
You were right.
Bobby Bones
Kendrick. Dude, what the hell, man?
Jeffrey
And steal from her and then wonder.
Kendrick
Why she don't understand you don't understand. You don't understand.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my God.
Kendrick
I needed it for my ex.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay.
Bobby Bones
Your ex.
Jeffrey
How would the excuse be bad? I don't get her call the lowlife. And you couldn't connect this?
Bobby Bones
That's a weird statement. Dude, can you explain?
Kendrick
I was gonna give it back or reimburse her on the next day, but she wouldn't answer my calls.
Andrea Waters King
What?
Jeffrey
Why don't you just buy your own damn jumbo juice? Why do you gotta.
Andrea Waters King
Why are you in my bag? Does no one see that that's an issue?
Jeffrey
Why are you in my bag? That is also bad.
Andrea Waters King
And why are you getting something for your ex?
Bobby Bones
Can we ask? Yeah. Why are you giving gifts back to your ex girlfriend?
Kendrick
Well, me and my ex, we aren't together, but we still celebrate our anniversary. We call it a X. Anniversary exc.
Jeffrey
So you, what, you stole the gift.
Jose
Card for your ex?
Kendrick
I borrowed it. So here's how extra bursary works. So we get each other a gift card or a card, and it's like, no hard feelings. Hope you're doing well.
Jeffrey
Okay, I don't know that we asked for all of this.
Andrea Waters King
So you figure that it's fine for you to celebrate your ex by taking from me, and I'm not even with you yet? Like you don't see anything wrong with that?
Jeffrey
You were at the mall. You could have bought anything.
Andrea Waters King
Are you that tight? You probably should not have been going out with me, Kendrick.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you sound like a pickpocket or something.
Bobby Bones
Why are we even going through her purse in her wallet anyway?
Kendrick
Well, our anniversary was later that night, so she was taking forever in the bathroom.
Andrea Waters King
Right?
Kendrick
I was bored.
Jose
You were shopping inside of her purse.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kendrick
Just wanted to see what I was working with.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God. How does this get worse? The morning time.
Andrea Waters King
So weird.
Kendrick
By the way. I think you're lying because your height on your licenses that you're 5 6.
Jose
There's no way that you're a li.
Andrea Waters King
She's here.
Bobby Bones
Okay? They're. They're both not perfect people. I think we can agree.
Jeffrey
She is a perfect woman who belongs on a yogurt commercial on television.
Jose
She relies on government officials.
Bobby Bones
The people in commercials tend not to be as tall as they appear on tv. That is a fair point.
Jeffrey
She's awesome.
Bobby Bones
Listen. Okay, the good point is Kendrick is very detail oriented because he looked at her license. He made sure that she is who she said.
Jeffrey
I don't like that he's memorizing the info on it.
Andrea Waters King
I don't like, bro. Like, this is so.
Bobby Bones
That is that Kendrick. It sounds like that was a violation. Going through her stuff and then sounds.
Kendrick
Like, yeah, wow, I borrowed it. I was gonna pay her back.
Bobby Bones
Okay, we're just gonna back away. Because now that it's all out in the open, you can talk to Danielle and apologize or say whatever it is that you want to say to her.
Jose
Chemistry takeover.
Bobby Bones
Try to win back here.
Kendrick
Danielle, I'm sorry. I got the anniversary day mixed up. I forgot it was later that night and I hadn't gotten her anything, so. Okay, I didn't want to violate you. I didn't want to violate.
Andrea Waters King
A little too late for that.
Jeffrey
I mean, can we just give Danielle. How much was that gift card worth? Can we reimburse her for the job?
Bobby Bones
Well, Brooke, it's not Danielle's exary. It's Kendrick and his exes. So. That's not fair. The only thing that's fair to do is to offer Kendrick and Danielle a second date. Paid for by us.
Andrea Waters King
Oh, you're out of your mind with a 12 foot pole.
Jeffrey
Okay, Danielle, that was the most appropriate response ever.
Bobby Bones
Kendrick wants more gift cards. I know Kendrick's up for it. All right, so, Danielle, that's a no from you.
Andrea Waters King
Absolute no.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Absolutely no.
Jeffrey
Do you know what we never heard is whether or not his ex was excited about the gift card.
Bobby Bones
She goes.
Andrea Waters King
Oh, my God.
Bobby Bones
Okay, Kendrick, how did the gift go?
Kendrick
She likes Jamba Juice. So that part worked out.
Bobby Bones
Good work, Kendrick.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Bobby Bones
Oh, man. Exiversary is a new term that I did not know about.
Jeffrey
That is not what we're concentrating on here.
Bobby Bones
How many years do you think it's going to take before Webster's picks that up? Yeah, they've got eight in the dictionary. Xiversary needs a spot in those pages, Jeff.
Jose
How long does an extraversary last? The lifetime or 10 years?
Jeffrey
No one is doing this. No one is picking that up. Jeff.
Jose
Thin anniversary celebrators.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, could be anniversary.
Jeffrey
I just still can't believe he was baffled when she called him a low life and put it together.
Bobby Bones
But he went through her things for a good reason.
Jose
No, for someone else. He's not even with him.
Jeffrey
For ex love.
Bobby Bones
Yes, it's a good reminder to reach out to an ex and tell them no hard feelings. And I have a Jamba Juice gift.
Jose
Card coming your way.
Bobby Bones

Podcast Summary: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – Ex-Aversary
Episode Title: Second Date Update: Ex-Aversary
Host/Authors: Brooke and Jeffrey
Release Date: January 31, 2025
Podcast Platform: iHeartPodcasts
In this engaging episode of Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update, hosts Brooke and Jeffrey tackle a listener's challenging dating dilemma. The episode, titled "Ex-Aversary," delves into the complexities of dating someone with lingering ties to their past relationships, leading to unforeseen complications.
The episode begins with a listener, Kendrick, reaching out for help after his seemingly perfect first date with a woman named Danielle took an unexpected turn. Kendrick describes his initial excitement and the seamless progression of the evening:
[02:42] Bobby Bones: "Second date update. You know, the picture you see on someone's dating profile compared to what they look like in real life can be vastly different."
Kendrick recounts meeting Danielle at a mall, where her in-person appearance exceeded her online photos. Her striking presence left a lasting impression:
[04:58] Bobby Bones: "Oh, a TV commercial."
[04:58] Kendrick: "She looked like she just stepped out of a TV commercial."
The date proceeds smoothly with Kendrick making an effort to keep the atmosphere light and fun. They explore various mall shops, share jokes, and even visit a seafood buffet. Kendrick’s attentive behavior, such as pulling out Danielle's chair and giving her compliments, paints the picture of an ideal first date:
[06:37] Kendrick: "I walked her to her car afterwards, gave her a kiss."
However, the following day, Kendrick receives a puzzling and harsh text from Danielle:
[07:17] Kendrick: "I can't freaking believe you. I don't date low lives. See ya."
Perplexed and hurt, Kendrick turns to Brooke and Jeffrey for insights into what might have gone wrong.
Brooke and Jeffrey dissect the situation, considering various possibilities that could have led Danielle to label Kendrick as a "low life." They encourage Kendrick to reflect on his actions and interactions during the date. The conversation takes a humorous turn as the hosts and co-hosts, Bobby Bones and Jose, speculate on the missteps that might have occurred.
Determined to resolve the misunderstanding, Brooke and Jeffrey decide to reach out directly to Danielle for clarification. They dial her number in an attempt to mediate and uncover the root cause of her strong reaction.
[10:05] Kendrick: "Here we go. All right."
Danielle answers the call, and tensions rise as she confronts Kendrick about his actions:
[12:20] Andrea Waters King (Danielle): "What? What? You went through my purse and took my Jamba Juice card."
It becomes evident that Kendrick had gone through Danielle's belongings to confiscate a Jamba Juice gift card, intending to use it for his own anniversary celebration with an ex-girlfriend, referred to as an "ex-aversary." This invasive act of going through Danielle's personal items without consent severely breached trust and respect.
[14:04] Andrea Waters King: "Why are you in my bag? Does no one see that that's an issue?"
Kendrick admits his wrongdoing, explaining his intent to celebrate his ex's anniversary:
[14:24] Kendrick: "I borrowed it. I was gonna pay her back."
The revelation highlights the critical importance of respecting personal boundaries and communication in dating. Kendrick's attempt to navigate his past relationship interfered with his budding connection with Danielle, leading her to perceive him negatively.
Brooke and Jeffrey use this scenario to emphasize key lessons for their listeners:
[16:24] Bobby Bones: "That is that Kendrick. It sounds like that was a violation."
As the episode wraps up, Brooke and Jeffrey encourage Kendrick to apologize sincerely to Danielle and learn from the experience to foster better relationships in the future. They also offer a second chance by proposing a rethink on how to handle such delicate situations more gracefully.
[17:02] Andrea Waters King: "A little too late for that."
[17:22] Andrea Waters King: "Oh, you're out of your mind with a 12 foot pole."
Through humor and heartfelt discussion, the episode provides valuable insights into the pitfalls of dating mishaps and the importance of integrity and respect in building meaningful connections.
Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – Ex-Aversary serves as both an entertaining and educational exploration of the complexities involved in modern dating, offering listeners relatable scenarios and practical advice for navigating their own romantic endeavors.
