Jeffrey
I'm Clayton Eckerd. In 2022, I was the lead of ABC's the Bachelor.
Brooke
But here's the thing. Bachelor fans hated him.
Rocky
If I could press a button and
Jeffrey
rewind it all, I would.
Brooke
That's when his life took a disturbing turn. A one night stand would end in a courtroom.
Amica Insurance Announcer
The media is here.
Misty
This case has gone viral.
Rocky
The dating contract.
Brooke
Agree to date me, but I'm also suing you.
Jeffrey
This is unlike anything I've ever seen before.
Brooke
I'm Stephanie Young. Listen to Love trapped on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Jill Winterstein
Hi, it's Jill Interestine, host of the Spirit Daughter podcast where we talk about astrology, natal charts and how to step into your most vibrant life. And today I'm talking with my dear friend Krista Williams.
Brooke
It can change you in the best way possible. Dance with the change. Dance with the breakdowns.
Jill Winterstein
The embodiment of Pisces intuition with Capricorn power moves.
Brooke
So I'm like delusionally proud of my chart.
Jill Winterstein
Listen to the Spirit Daughter podcast starting on February 24th on the I Heart radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to your podcast.
Brooke
In the middle of the night, Saskia
Jill Winterstein
awoke in a haze.
Brooke
Her husband Mike was on his laptop. What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever. I said I Need you to tell me exactly what you're doing. And immediately the mask came off.
Amica Insurance Announcer
You're supposed to be safe.
Brooke
That's your home. That's your husband. Listen to Betrayal Season 5 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, we got a brand new second date podcast for you. Good morning. Welcome to Monday.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Good morning, sunshine. I have your tea ready for you. Here it is.
Brooke
I don't want tea. I want coffee.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Oh, God, she's angry.
Brooke
But we will learn. I think one of the most baller moves ever to get a date. I mean, yes, he's got.
Unidentified Female Co-host
I don't know, it's kind of a snipe. That's what I like to call it. This guy kind of snipes.
Jeffrey
It's a little bo.
Brooke
Borderline creepy to me. Yeah, that's what I was gonna say next. Yeah, yeah, but it works. So before we get to that, comments? Yes. Achula said I'd only seen a picture of you all, and for years I assumed Jeff was Jose and Jose was Jeff.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Oh, that's fun.
Brooke
Then I saw a video of everyone talking and was shook that I had the voices mixed up all this time. And now I think Jeff's voice belongs on Jose and Jose's voice belongs on Jeff. It's just better that way.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Really Interesting. I think. I mean, Jasmine confused for a Latino a lot lately.
Brooke
He really has.
Unidentified Female Co-host
So I don't know, maybe we are. Maybe we work together long. We're like becoming the same.
Brooke
Yeah, like a married couple.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, I'm becoming wider. He's becoming brown.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah, I could see it. I could see it. All right, well, let's get to your brand new second date right now. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeffrey
We've had this happen before where someone will come on the show saying they want another date cuz their first hangout got totally hijacked.
Brooke
Oh, yeah, like maybe somebody else showed up, right?
Jeffrey
Usually it's like a mom who shows up unexpected or who is asked to be there. Or maybe it's that hunky firefighter who just happened to be in the restaurant checking the smoke alarms that night with his shirt off.
Brooke
You can reach so high, sir.
Jeffrey
Yeah, but what do you do when your date is hijacked and no one is there?
Brooke
What is it? Do you know the definition of hijack?
Unidentified Female Co-host
I know, you just.
Jeffrey
It sounds confusing, but our listener Rocky says that absolutely happened to him and he's hoping for a redo. So, Rocky, welcome to the show, man.
Rocky
Hey, thanks for having me, guys.
Brooke
Okay, your date was hijacked by no one.
Rocky
At least no one that we're aware of.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay, now it's clear. But tell us the story of what happened.
Rocky
So we. We met on the app, coffee meets bagel.
Brooke
Yeah, we've heard of that one a couple times. Yeah, it's supposed to be more casual, right?
Rocky
Right. Yeah, we're both into everything bagels, so we connected.
Brooke
Oh, it's actually about bagels.
Jeffrey
Is that the rule on the app? You can only talk about pastries or coffee?
Rocky
No, no, but that is the topic that brought us together.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Oh, kind of cute.
Brooke
I mean, a good everything bagel.
Rocky
Yeah, right.
Jeffrey
I'll get the conversation rolling.
Rocky
So we ended up going out to dinner, and I brought her to this, like, medium upscale restaurant.
Unidentified Female Co-host
I know exactly what you're talking about. It's, like, nicer than normal, but it's not like a fancy, fancy steakhouse.
Jeffrey
We've all been to claim Jumper before.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, no, that place slaps medium upscale.
Jeffrey
Oh, it's so good.
Rocky
Right?
Jeffrey
So what happened?
Rocky
So, I mean, first off, she looks amazing. You know, we're getting to know each other, and as soon as we get in, the waiter immediately comes by and puts a couple of drinks on the table before we even order.
Brooke
Wait, you didn't order the drinks? It was like, oh, not water.
Unidentified Female Co-host
You're talking about, like, drink drinks.
Rocky
Oh, yeah, like. Like alcoholic drinks.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
Did they. Did they get the order confused and put them on the wrong table?
Unidentified Female Co-host
That happens.
Brooke
I mean, lucky you.
Rocky
Yeah, well, that's what I bought. Yeah, I'm like, sorry, that's not ours. We haven't ordered yet.
Jeffrey
Right, okay.
Rocky
And he goes, no, sir, these drinks are actually taken care of.
Brooke
Oh, someone bought them for you? That's cute, though. Like, maybe there's like an old married couple sitting at the bar and they, like, see two cuties on a date.
Jeffrey
They got that order in real fast. Then if they just see them walking in, like, quick, quick.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Or maybe we could do a thing where someone's being charitable and they go, look, the next cute couple.
Jeffrey
Okay, maybe that. That's possible. Yeah.
Brooke
Do you find out who. Who sent them over?
Rocky
No. And so that's like, I'm confused. She's confused. Like, they gave me a mojito and she got an espresso martini, which great taste in drinks apparently is her number one favorite drink.
Brooke
I mean, that's. I'm sorry, any woman between age 28 and 36, it's going to be their number one drink.
Rocky
But that's the thing. It's like. So she's going off about that, and I'm asking her, did you tell anyone that we were going to be here? And she's like, no.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Okay.
Brooke
Is this the hijacking that you're talking about? About? Is that. That's all you talked about all night?
Rocky
Yeah, but it gets even more strange.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Rocky
So the waiter comes back and he. He takes her order, and he says, just so you know, anything you get is cupped tonight, the meal.
Brooke
Dude, you're like, wait, I got to change my order then.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, right, Exactly.
Brooke
Wait, why?
Rocky
The waiter said he wasn't at liberty to say why. Oh, no. But then he goes on to tell us we have a very nice bottle of wine waiting for us as well. Can bring it out whenever we like.
Jeffrey
Dude. Oh, my God.
Brooke
Sounds amazing.
Unidentified Female Co-host
It's so funny. The insecurities in me are like, I'm supposed to be spoiling you.
Brooke
You're getting. You're getting demasculated by a surprise guest.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Invisible Man.
Rocky
100%.
Brooke
Maybe the universe just really wants you two to have a great, fun experience together. Like, being shocked by the free stuff.
Rocky
Yeah, except, like, having everything fully paid for felt like it was the worst thing ever because it was the only thing we talked about.
Brooke
Dude, that's wild that the waiter didn't give you any hints. Like, did he drop any knowledge that you could have gotten a clue from?
Rocky
No, nothing. And we figured it must have just been somebody she knows that's close to her because. Because they knew her drink.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, the drink. I mean, it could have been good timing.
Brooke
Martini. Your chances are so high.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah.
Brooke
Somebody, like, you know, but you would figure by the end of the day or even the next day, the person would reveal themselves, Right?
Jeffrey
They would.
Brooke
You.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that doesn't happen at all.
Rocky
No. We get through dinner, and I just personally feel very deflated. Like, it kind of undermined me the entire time and. And hijacked the attention of the whole night.
Brooke
Yeah.
Unidentified Female Co-host
You want to feel like a provider and you didn't get to provide.
Jeffrey
Plus, like, it sucks that you want to spend time actually, like, having a conversation about each other, and the entire time, all you can talk about is who is watching us.
Brooke
You don't think she took it as, like, fun, though?
Jeffrey
Well, the only issue is that it would have been great. But Rocky is getting avoided now, it sounds like, because, like, what's happened since your dinner?
Unidentified Female Co-host
That's right.
Rocky
Well, I talked to her the day after, and she thanked me, and I was like, you don't have to thank me. I didn't do it.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Unidentified Female Co-host
You would think it would bond you. Kind of like what Brooke said. Like, it'd be so memorable. You guys would talk about it again.
Rocky
Yeah, but she's not responding to any of my texts, so I don't know if she knows or not. I want conclusion.
Jeffrey
We all want answers. So we're going to call this woman. And I'm just. I'm assuming that you don't want us to offer to pay because that'd be
Unidentified Female Co-host
undermining you to act like you're the guy. You're the random ghost that did that paid for everything.
Jeffrey
I'd like to find out who it is and see if she's willing to give up that information.
Brooke
Maybe you need to take her to a high upscale instead of just mid next time.
Jeffrey
Maybe that's your problem.
Brooke
I mean, if you're wanting to pay for so much, this is going to
Jeffrey
be a great learning opportunity for you. Rocky, when we come back and get your second date update, hijack style right
Brooke
after this, Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Jeffrey
Well, this is an intriguing second date update. We've got today. One of our listeners, Rocky, went out with an attractive woman that he met on a dating app and they went to a restaurant where everything was paid for. Did she pay? No. Did Rocky pay? No. Nobody knows who paid for anything. It was apparently some mystery person who comped the entire evening for them and then never identified themselves.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Pretty baller move.
Brooke
And it's funny that he's like, it took over our conversation because it definitely took over this room's conversation as well. Yeah, yeah. You know, it's all we could talk about.
Jeffrey
And that was kind of the issue for him. He felt like he never got a chance to actually connect with her about anything other than who is here and is buying all of our stuff.
Unidentified Female Co-host
So you would feel like someone's watching you.
Jeffrey
Totally. So, yes, we do want to get Rocky another hangout with this woman, but honestly, we're kind of more curious to find out who did this for them and why.
Brooke
I mean, Rocky, you'd agree, like, you need some closure in order to make the second date successful, right?
Rocky
Yeah, yeah, 100%. Because if we go on another date, this is all we're going to talk about again.
Brooke
Yeah, we will try our best not to only talk about that.
Jeffrey
What do you like Rocky? What do we know about you?
Brooke
He likes mojitos.
Jeffrey
Mojitos?
Rocky
Yeah, mojitos, bagels and coffee.
Jeffrey
Okay, gotcha. Thank you for refreshing my memory.
Brooke
Here.
Jeffrey
Okay, I'm going to dial her number. Let's see if she picks up.
Rocky
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hi, is this Meistai?
Misty
Misty.
Jeffrey
Oh, Misty. I'm just reading. It's spelled with two Y's. You have two Y's in your name?
Misty
Yeah, I have two Y's in my name.
Brooke
Why don't you add it as die if there's two Y, M, Y, S,
Jeffrey
T, Y. I'm sorry. I was just reading it off the paper and I got confused. My bad. Misty, this is a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Misty
Okay.
Brooke
Sorry, Misty.
Jeffrey
Not the smartest show.
Brooke
Obviously not the best introduction.
Jeffrey
No, no. But we're really eager to talk to you because we're doing something called a Second date Update.
Misty
Okay.
Brooke
All right.
Jeffrey
Okay. That's where we help out our listeners who go out with somebody, and afterwards they're not getting a call back. We can try to reach out on their behalf and maybe figure out the reason why. And your date really has captivated our attention because it was with a guy named Rocky.
Brooke
Oh, you got that one right.
Jeffrey
I had to check the paper again. Sorry. Do you remember going out with a guy named Rocky?
Misty
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I do.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Sounded like a wild date, right?
Misty
What do you mean?
Brooke
I mean, maybe the date wasn't wild, but the stuff that happened on it was.
Jeffrey
Huh?
Misty
Oh, that. It was paid for.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's what we heard.
Rocky
Yeah.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Somebody ran.
Misty
No, I know. That was crazy.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, we all agree. Do you have any more info about that?
Brooke
Like, did you find out who it was?
Misty
Oh, yeah.
Jeffrey
You did. Okay. We didn't tell you after we've been dying to know because we heard from Rocky the whole situation that unfolded, and he feels like that mystery may have kind of overshadowed the romantic aspect of you two getting to know each other.
Misty
I can see that.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Okay.
Misty
I also had no idea. And I was like, it must be someone that I know because they must know that I love a Espresso martinis. Like, I love espresso martinis.
Brooke
Okay.
Unidentified Female Co-host
It's like a couple people that are upset.
Brooke
You like them that much? It's part of your personality.
Misty
Yeah, more so than I would like to admit.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
All right. So obviously they knew you, but then, like, no one.
Misty
Like, my. It wasn't my mom. It wasn't my bestie.
Brooke
Oh, my God. Were you texting everyone after the date? Like, did you?
Misty
Yeah, but I also didn't tell any of them where I was going. Like, the only person I told was my mom, and she didn't do it.
Jeffrey
Okay, so how do you find out who?
Misty
Well, okay, so here's the thing. I had some, like, deliveries that I was getting, like, a couple days ago. So I went outside to, like, sign for them, and my mailman asked how my date was.
Brooke
What?
Jeffrey
Wait, what?
Brooke
Yeah.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Wait a minute.
Misty
So then we started talking, and then he asked me, how is my espresso martini specifically.
Brooke
Oh, no, it's getting weirder. Wait, your mailman paid for your date?
Misty
Yeah. So I thought I had a full blown stalker on my hands for sure.
Unidentified Female Co-host
That's a little much, dude.
Brooke
What would make you think otherwise? Yeah, okay.
Misty
Okay, so then. So then what he was telling me was that a couple days before the date, then I had come out again to sign for some packages, and that was when I was on the phone talking to my mom about the date. And I had said, like, it was gonna be at that restaurant and it was gonna.
Brooke
Oh, no.
Jeffrey
Oh, so he knew you were gonna be there?
Misty
Yeah, he heard the time and place, and he, like, made this grand gesture.
Brooke
Why?
Unidentified Female Co-host
I mean, in a weird way, was he just being nice? Like an old guy that just doesn't understand how weird it looks?
Misty
Oh, no, no, no. He's not old. He's very handsome.
Jeffrey
He's a hot mailman.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Wait a minute.
Brooke
With great calves. They all have good calves.
Misty
He's got all that walking going on,
Brooke
but, yeah, scared by this.
Rocky
I thought it was sweet.
Misty
No one's ever done anything like that for me before.
Jeffrey
Well, the question still stands is, like, was he doing it as a sweet gesture? As, like a have fun on your date, or was there something selfish behind it?
Misty
Oh, he expressed some feelings.
Brooke
What? Oh, really?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Misty
Yeah. So I order a lot of packages either, like, for work or for my personal life.
Rocky
Yeah.
Misty
So, like, we see each other a lot. So I asked him how he knew to order me, especially martini. I order so many disposable espresso cups.
Jeffrey
He delivers them for you.
Brooke
He pays attention, remembers what you get in the mail, too.
Jeffrey
That's an attentive mailman. My mail people know me.
Misty
I mean, you know, it has a giant, like, nespresso label on it, so it's not like he's rooting through my mail.
Jeffrey
Okay, maybe it's just a lot of
Brooke
red flags flying up for me.
Jeffrey
Yeah, there's a few, but it's less creepy than we originally thought, that this is the. Well, he's not just some stranger male guy. They know each other, they talk.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah.
Brooke
It feels.
Amica Insurance Announcer
Yeah.
Brooke
A boundary.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we may think that, but Misty Thought it was a nice gesture.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Jeff has a point.
Brooke
Have you gone out with a mailman?
Misty
No, we're going out next weekend.
Jeffrey
Okay. Yeah, we're. We're divulging a lot of information and.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Oh, wow.
Jeffrey
We can't have any more without you knowing, Misty, that Rocky, the guy you were on the date with, is actually on the other line listening to this whole thing.
Misty
Oh, my God.
Rocky
So it's between me and the male guy.
Jeffrey
Sorry, dude.
Misty
Oh, my gosh, I'm mortified. I'm so sorry. I didn't want. I didn't mean for you to hear all of that.
Rocky
I mean, I gathered that by the fact that you never responded to me,
Misty
yet you still wanted to bring me on this show.
Rocky
I wanted answers. I. At the time, I didn't know.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, you wouldn't have if you knew this.
Brooke
What a move. Like, I would never think paying for someone's else's date would be a way to get a date myself.
Unidentified Female Co-host
It's a great way to get her attention.
Misty
Yeah, it certainly did.
Rocky
I want to be clear. I was planning on paying for the date.
Brooke
He's still on that.
Misty
Well, Rocky, if it makes you feel better, you could pay for our date. The mailman and I. Oh, wow.
Jeffrey
Little tip for TO.
Brooke
I mean, he did cover you once, so.
Jeffrey
Yeah, the respectable thing to do.
Misty
You already know I like espresso martini.
Rocky
Hey, there you go.
Brooke
You didn't even have to go through her mail to find that out.
Jeffrey
Wow.
Rocky
Yeah, I'm not. I'm not gonna steal some other dude's move, but if he wants to pay for another date for you and I also, I'll point this out like, I take fencing classes. He can come and we can fence for you.
Jeffrey
Oh, wow.
Brooke
You're gonna, like.
Unidentified Female Co-host
You can sword fight him.
Brooke
Sword fight with a dull sword.
Jeffrey
Misty, does that impress you as much as the male guy listening in on your con with your mom?
Misty
It's interesting.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Oh, she is intrigued.
Jeffrey
You like. You like a man who fences.
Brooke
It's that white suit.
Misty
Like, I gotta give him the benefit of the doubt. So I don't feel like I can really be seeing two people at one time.
Brooke
Yeah, you don't want to do your mailman dirty.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Misty
Yeah.
Brooke
That's a revenge that you don't want to deal with, man. Out of.
Jeffrey
Out of all the people that it could have been that did this mailman was not in my top hundred list.
Misty
I had no idea either. I mean, it came out of the blue, but it was kind of romantic.
Amica Insurance Announcer
Aw.
Jeffrey
What kind of Romantic.
Unidentified Female Co-host
It ruined this guy's life.
Brooke
I know. I know that we're. You're liking this male story a lot, but maybe just keep your, like, find my location on or something. On your phone.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, yeah, just.
Misty
Oh, always.
Brooke
There's just some. Still, if it doesn't work out. Yeah, yeah.
Misty
Oh, yeah, sure. No, if it doesn't work out, then. Rocky, you can call me.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay.
Amica Insurance Announcer
Good.
Jeffrey
She's keeping the door open for you, Rashi.
Brooke
It's like a return to sender.
Jeffrey
I know this is kind of awkward, but maybe I'll just ask. If it doesn't end up working out with her creepy male guy, would you still be open to seeing Misty one more time?
Brooke
I don't know.
Rocky
I feel like I gotta give this male guy a shot.
Brooke
Oh, you.
Jeffrey
You wanna date him now, too?
Unidentified Female Co-host
Perfect.
Rocky
Yeah. Maybe he could pay for me and him.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay.
Unidentified Female Co-host
I like Rocky. He's a.
Brooke
He's funny.
Jeffrey
He's trying to.
Misty
I don't think he swings that way.
Jeffrey
No, he's joking, Misty.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, they don't have a lot of chemistry anyway.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I could see that. All right, well, Rocky, man, I'm sorry that this didn't work out the way you wanted it to, but it's quite
Rocky
the story to tell the mystery solve. And I guess in a way, that's worth it. Yeah.
Unidentified Female Co-host
All of us.
Brooke
Dude, I feel like this could have been a Scooby Doo episode.
Jeffrey
Y. It was the mailman all along.
Unidentified Female Co-host
They really do go the extra mile, those meddling kids.
Brooke
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

We've planned for the plot twists, so support is always available because a great trip starts with peace of mind.
Jeffrey
You know, if Rocky knew how this was going to turn out in the end, he probably should have just refused to accept the comped meal and been like, no, I'm paying.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, I thought of that. But then it's like he didn't know who it was. Is it rude? Like, if it was one of his friends?
Brooke
Back in the day, it really sounded like the waiter was in charge of that whole thing. Yeah. You know, that was a strong waiter. Bully him into telling him who it was. He refused to stop bringing the thing.
Jeffrey
I know. He should have been like, wait, somebody knows your favorite drink. Nuh, we're out of here.
Brooke
I just thought that it was a good guess. Honestly, it could still be.
Jeffrey
It's too little too late. He just let it happen and ended up getting blocked and swooped in on by a male guy.
Brooke
Oh, yeah, who knew? Who knew male people had such moves?
Unidentified Female Co-host
I know they got cushy government jobs, so you know what I'm saying?
Jeffrey
I mean, I feel like postal carriers everywhere rejoiced when they heard this call. Like, finally, one of ours gets a win. Yeah, good for them.
Unidentified Female Co-host
Yeah, the little shorts paid off.
Jeffrey
So you know what? Bullets dodged and relationships made.
Unidentified Female Co-host
But mystery solved.

In today’s episode of “Second Date Update,” the team helps a listener, Rocky, who had an unusual first date experience. What was meant to be a simple dinner turned into a night of mystery when an anonymous benefactor paid for Rocky and his date’s entire meal—drinks and all. After being “ghosted,” Rocky wants to know why the date went sideways and who was behind the phantom generosity. As always, Brooke, Jeffrey, and their co-hosts mix humor, curiosity, and empathy to get to the bottom of this quirky, real-life whodunit.

The episode is lively, tongue-in-cheek, and brimming with both genuine curiosity and playful snark. The hosts make light of the increasingly absurd situation, with both empathy for Rocky’s awkward predicament and delight in the twist ending worthy of reality TV or, as Brooke quips, a “Scooby Doo episode” ([20:33]).
This Second Date Update dives into one of the strangest “ghosting” stories yet—a date sidetracked by mystery generosity, a mailman secret admirer, and awkward modern romance. The hosts deliver an entertaining, revealing ride as Rocky discovers he’s been outmaneuvered not by another suitor in the restaurant, but by the guy delivering Misty’s mail—and her heart.
