Brooke (Host)
Hey, we got a brand new episode for you today on your second date podcast. Thanks for being here. We do need to reflect on our podcast last week. The episode, what was it called? Love at first height.
Alexis
Yeah. The two tall people.
Brooke
Yeah.
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke (Host)
What, six' six Wasn't tall?
Alexis
Tall enough for her, basically. Yeah.
Jeffrey
It's funny to hear, dude.
Brooke (Host)
It's just wild. Where is she choosing these? I don't know.
Alexis
Finding them. What a niche thing.
Jeffrey
You have to date basketball players. Not even NBA, just around the world.
Alexis
Yes, true.
Brooke (Host)
And what are people saying in the comments?
Alexis
Joe said, inflation getting so bad. Six. Six is the new six foot.
Brooke (Host)
We're cooked. That's pretty fun.
Alexis
Sorry, I can't imagine this mindset because my type is actually shorter guys that are around my height.
Brooke (Host)
That's right.
Alexis
You're getting an applause from Ash.
Jeffrey
I've always been a medium guy, so shorter guys.
Brooke (Host)
I'm with her. Yeah.
Alexis
You know, imagine the coffin size they need to be buried. Oh, Rick, that was.
Jeffrey
Why would you say that?
Alexis
Where was your head at?
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Alexis
Anyways, we're talking about it.
Jeffrey
Do you have to buy two blocks?
Brooke (Host)
No.
Alexis
Done on comments. Done on comments.
Brooke (Host)
Okay, here we go. Let's get to your brand new episode. It starts right now. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
Little behind the scenes secret here. When we do these second date updates, it's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. We. Our producer takes a lot of time to coordinate these calls with the listeners.
Brooke (Host)
Is that a secret? Because pretty sure anyone that meets him,
Brooke
he complains about it, but he's very, very stressed out.
Brooke (Host)
Yes.
Brooke
Because he's trying to help these people. Yes.
Brooke (Host)
You don't know how much work this is.
Brooke
Today's caller, his name is Charles. Has been booked six different times to do this over the past two weeks. Has not answered the phone for five of them.
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Alexis
We call from a weird number.
Brooke
He requested this.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Scheduled these calls and he wasn't answering.
Jeffrey
Cold feet.
Brooke (Host)
Maybe we know why he's not getting a second date.
Jeffrey
Yeah, maybe answer my phone, Try to call me. But.
Brooke
But he's finally on the phone with us on the sixth try.
Brooke (Host)
Wow.
Brooke
least he was. Hopefully he hasn't hung up already. Charles, are you still there?
Charles
Yeah, I've just had second thoughts about doing this more than once. But today I just felt like I've finally had the courage to go through with it.
Brooke (Host)
Okay. And is this.
Jeffrey
Man, that's awesome.
Brooke (Host)
I'm guessing this has been the same person all six times we've Tried to call you.
Jeffrey
Right, question.
Charles
It's the same girl.
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Charles
Her name's Maggie.
Brooke (Host)
And at this point, how long ago did you meet her?
Charles
It's been probably three weeks.
Brooke
Okay.
Charles
I was with a buddy who was getting a tattoo, and she was the tattoo artist.
Jeffrey
Oh, interesting.
Brooke (Host)
There is something real sexy about tattoo artists.
Jeffrey
Really?
Charles
So I was in the waiting area, and I could see her do her work for, like, half an hour, and she was so beautiful.
Brooke (Host)
Okay, did you have any interaction with her, or did you just stare at
Jeffrey
her for that long with your mouth open? Just
Brooke (Host)
no interaction. You talk to her?
Charles
Oh, sorry. I was just thinking about Maggie.
Brooke
You sent him right back to that moment watching her work her magic on his arm. Okay.
Charles
Yeah. So after they were done, I'm. I'm kind of a shy person.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah.
Charles
But I asked her out by writing my phone number on the back of my buddy's receipt with a message that said, I think you're cute, but I spelled you're, you are. I thought it was kind of cute
Brooke (Host)
because he's hip like that dude.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Alexis
You clarified it was you and not your friend.
Brooke
That was a strong move.
Brooke (Host)
Oh, that's a good point, Alexis, because it was on your friend's receipt.
Brooke
Oh, that could actually. That's. Yeah, that could be confusing.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah, I didn't think about that.
Charles
Yeah. But I gave it to her, so I was hoping she knew it was for me.
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Brooke
Okay. It's a little better.
Brooke (Host)
Did she contact you?
Charles
Yeah, she texted me and she agreed to get dinner together.
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Charles
Okay.
Brooke (Host)
So she saw something she liked too.
Brooke
Yeah, the you are that turned her on.
Brooke (Host)
Met him.
Brooke
Oh, well, whatever. It was good work.
Brooke (Host)
So, I mean, what were you feeling going into this date?
Charles
I was excited. I was a little nervous, and I picked a restaurant that was close to her apartment to make her feel like I was thinking about her.
Brooke
That's good.
Jeffrey
Did she tell you where her apartment was?
Brooke (Host)
Thank you, Jose.
Jeffrey
How did you know where she lived?
Charles
Yeah, it was by the tattoo shop, and she said she kind of lives close to there, so.
Jeffrey
Okay, that's good. All right, vague comment. That's good.
Brooke (Host)
Okay, so what was it like? You meet her and what happens?
Charles
Yeah, so I picked her up, and I think there was a miscommunication about the time, so I ended up being a little late by, like, I don't know, 15 minutes, but it was fine.
Brooke
15 minutes late.
Charles
Okay.
Brooke (Host)
Anyways.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
All right.
Charles
She comes out and we walk to the restaurant together. And you know how there's, like, really loud restaurants with everybody Talking.
Maggie
Yeah.
Charles
Well, this was just not that. It was really quiet so people could hear a lot.
Jeffrey
Oh, maybe I like a nicer restaurant.
Alexis
Oh, no, the opposite. I hate that.
Brooke
Yeah.
Brooke (Host)
Did that make. Were you like Alexis? Did that make you uncomfortable?
Charles
It kind of did, because she was just even prettier than the first time I saw her. And there were times where I just caught myself just staring at her. And then there was a silence, and then I was only a couple feet away, and I just had to snap out of it.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah. It sounds like you go into that trance mode often.
Charles
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay, let's start calling her now. I feel like there's going to be a lot more pause there.
Brooke
I think we need to do, like, an alarm sound to get his attention back. So.
Charles
Sorry. Sorry, I muted myself.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's it.
Brooke
Okay. Yeah, you're right, Charles.
Jeffrey
So, okay, I do that all the time.
Brooke
So there are times you're in the restaurant, you were so enamored by her stunning beauty that you didn't even have words. You were just staring at her.
Maggie
Yeah.
Charles
So I don't know if I may have come across as a boring person, which sucks. But maybe that's why she hasn't answered. And, I mean, I'm sure she meets a lot of cool guys that come into the tattoo shop.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah, but I bet. I bet you're right. I bet she gets asked out a lot. But I bet she doesn't say yes very often.
Brooke
Yeah, those, like, tattooed, muscly guys aren't writing you are on their receipts like you do, bro.
Brooke (Host)
That's cute.
Alexis
On their friends receipts, not their own.
Brooke (Host)
He didn't know.
Liberty Mutual Announcer
Exactly.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah.
Brooke
You're unique, and I bet she appreciates that. So, tell us how the day ended.
Charles
Well, the most embarrassing part was the walk back to her apartment.
Brooke (Host)
Why?
Charles
I was kind of looking at her, and I almost got hit by a car.
Jeffrey
What?
Charles
And.
Brooke
Oh. What?
Charles
Honked really loud. They honked so loud.
Jeffrey
Yeah, well, they're trying to startle you to get out of the way.
Brooke (Host)
You didn't get hit?
Charles
No, no. Well, the last thing she said to me was, I'm glad you didn't die. Which I thought was kind of sweet.
Brooke
Well, yeah, it's better than I wish you had died. Yeah, so it's better than that.
Brooke (Host)
Dang it. That car missed.
Brooke
So maybe it's not the way that you wanted the date to go when you envisioned it in your head, but there's a chance we can save this.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah. And you're probably not a boring guy, right? You got lots of Cool stuff going on in your life.
Jeffrey
Yeah. You got quirks.
Charles
Yeah.
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Podcast Promo Host
Yeah, period.
Brooke
I believe that.
Jeffrey
So he's pausing to think about him.
Brooke
Let's call Maggie here in a minute and show her just how exciting and cool and awesome of a person you really are.
Brooke (Host)
Dude, boring people don't call radio stations.
Brooke
No, only the cream of the crop come to us. So we're gonna come back, call Maggie, and try to get you your second date update right after this.
Brooke (Host)
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
Quick recap, if you're just joining us. Cause I don't want to lo. Charles again, like we have multiple times in the past is he met a tattoo artist named Maggie, asked her out to a restaurant, and picked her up at her apartment a little bit late, but it was okay, according to him.
Jeffrey
So I have a theory that he spaced out in traffic a couple times.
Brooke (Host)
I didn't think about that. But that's probably why he almost got hit by a car.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
And he went through like four cycles before he finally decided to go on green. But the awkward part, he says, aside from the moments when he just caught himself staring at her, was when he almost got hit by a car on the walk home.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah, that's the one.
Charles
Yeah.
Brooke
And the last words that she told him before they went separate ways was, well, I'm glad you didn't die. Which is kind of sweet.
Jeffrey
I mean, endearing.
Brooke
So it's been three weeks since that
Brooke (Host)
date, and that's because he hasn't answered our producer's call to come on this show.
Brooke
This call is two weeks in the making. And the longer we wait, the more awkward this is going to be. So we better just make this call.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Charles, are you still on the phone? First of all?
Charles
Yeah, I just. I hope I didn't blow it.
Brooke (Host)
It's okay if you did. That's our job, is to give you another shot.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Charles
Yeah, I hope so.
Brooke
So let's do this. I'm gonna dial the number right now. Here we go.
Maggie
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, Maggie. Is this Maggie?
Maggie
Yeah. Who's this?
Brooke
Okay.
Brooke (Host)
Really aggressive, Jeff.
Brooke
Sorry, I realized. Maggie. Sorry, I realized I was screaming. No, this is a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Jeffrey
Hi, Maggie. Good morning.
Maggie
Okay, I'm sorry. Why are you calling me?
Brooke
We've actually been waiting two weeks to make this call, believe it or not.
Jeffrey
Sounds worse.
Brooke (Host)
It's not your fault.
Brooke
No, it's from a listener that you went on a date with a guy named Charles.
Charles
Oh. Oh, okay.
Maggie
Okay. I'm sorry. This Is a little weird.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we know.
Brooke
I get that.
Brooke (Host)
Do you remember Charles? Because you went out three weeks ago. It's been a minute.
Maggie
Yeah, I remember him.
Charles
What is. I'm.
Maggie
Why does that. What does that have to do with you guys calling me?
Brooke
So what we're doing now is called a second date update. Trying to help Charles figure out if there's a chance that maybe the two of you could see each other again, or if not, if there was something he did wrong on the date that made you lose interest.
Brooke (Host)
Okay, that's a good pivot because that was a weird pause.
Maggie
It wasn't, like, one thing. It was just. It was honestly just kind of a weird date.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Really?
Maggie
Yeah. Like, for example, he was supposed to pick me up from my apartment, and, like, we agreed on a time, and I was, like, waiting there. It's like, he's five minutes late. He's 15 minutes late. I look outside my window, and he's just, like, standing outside on the sidewalk.
Brooke
He's there the whole time.
Maggie
I don't know how long he was there, but it. Like, he was just waiting outside. Like, he hadn't, like, texted or said, hey, I'm here, or anything. So finally I called him, and I was like, hey, are you here? And he says, yeah.
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Alexis
Maybe he just looked outside, like, right when he got there.
Maggie
Even when I was like, hey, you didn't tell me that you're here. And his response was, well, I was just hoping you'd see me.
Charles
Oh.
Brooke (Host)
Oh, come on.
Brooke
Okay.
Brooke (Host)
It's kind of funny.
Alexis
Going up to doors is like answering phones.
Brooke (Host)
I hate it.
Charles
Okay.
Jeffrey
It's like someone opened this for me.
Alexis
Yeah.
Brooke
Honestly, bottom line is you did eventually go outside and meet him and go out on the date. We know that.
Maggie
Yeah. I went down and, you know, we walked to the restaurant, and he, you know, he was really polite. He asked me a question. I answered his question, and then it was just, like, silence.
Brooke (Host)
Oh, yeah.
Maggie
And I was like. I literally was like, do I need to reboot this guy? What is going on?
Jeffrey
So well said.
Brooke
Or maybe it was something about the question in the answer that really threw him for a loop.
Maggie
He said, what color are your eyes?
Brooke (Host)
Oh, that's a quick answer.
Brooke
Oh.
Alexis
Looking at you.
Maggie
It just was like an immediate conversation stopper. And it's like, I didn't want to be like, what color are yours? Because I looked at him.
Brooke (Host)
Stop flowing.
Jeffrey
I don't have any, like, conversation chemistry.
Brooke (Host)
But, yeah, you know, like, it's a very beginning of the day. He's a shy guy, which you had to have gotten that vibe before you even said yes to him. Right? So, yeah.
Jeffrey
Quiet.
Maggie
I got quiet. But again, I'm like, giving him a chance. We get to the restaurant and, like, sit down, and the first thing he tells the waitress is like, she comes to the table and he just immediately starts apologizing for, like, taking up space.
Brooke (Host)
Oh, no.
Jeffrey
Oh, wow. I'm sorry.
Brooke (Host)
Like, I'm sorry. Sorry we're here.
Brooke
Does the air cost money? Because I'll happily pay to breathe the same air.
Brooke (Host)
Or I'll just stop breathing.
Jeffrey
Deep breath.
Maggie
Yeah, yeah. And I don't mind shy, but it's like, no. Confidence is a little hard for me.
Brooke
Yeah, well, sometimes they say, like, the best relationships are when you can just sit in total silence and say nothing to each other.
Maggie
Yeah. The key word there is comfortable silence.
Brooke
I hear you. You don't want him to be silent. And we're not going to let him be silent anymore because he has been quietly listening in on this phone call. I do let you know. Wait, what?
Jeffrey
Yeah, yeah.
Brooke
Waiting to talk to you.
Maggie
Are you serious?
Brooke (Host)
Yeah.
Brooke
Yeah, I am.
Charles
Wow.
Maggie
Feeling a little set up here.
Brooke
Sorry about that.
Brooke (Host)
But that's just how this confident guy would do something like that. Apologize.
Alexis
Jeff.
Jeffrey
Jeff, wait.
Brooke
No, I'm the shy boy. Yeah. Charles is the masculine guy. Go ahead, Charles.
Charles
Hi. Oh, hi, Maggie.
Brooke (Host)
He's here.
Maggie
Hi, Charles.
Jeffrey
He answered.
Charles
I'm. I'm. I'm really, I'm really sorry about this whole thing. I just couldn't do it myself. And so I, I will say I only apologize for the space thing because we were two people taking up a four person table.
Maggie
Okay. They sat you there, but the restaurant was literally half empty.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Brooke
So, yeah, probably because they were looking in. They were like, oh, wow. That table that they're sitting at, that guy's got energy.
Jeffrey
He's going to need space.
Brooke
Yeah, I can't go in there.
Maggie
I just thought it was a little weird. And then, like, you asked the waitress if they outsourced their napkins. It was, it just, it felt like you were, like, trying not to talk to me.
Jeffrey
Are these from China or what?
Charles
I was just trying to make small talk. And.
Brooke (Host)
And he's not very good at it.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's.
Brooke
But I think she's saying, if you're going to make small talk, maybe make small talk with the person you're on a date with, not with the waitress.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Maggie
Yeah. I just, I felt like we're trying to, like, look at anything else but me or talk to anybody else but me.
Brooke (Host)
Hello?
Charles
Oh, yeah.
Maggie
Like, this is kind of what I'm talking about.
Brooke (Host)
The reboot was such a good description.
Brooke
Just unplug and plug them back in 15 seconds.
Charles
Yeah.
Maggie
I don't know.
Charles
I think you're so beautiful that sometimes I just find myself staring. And earlier, when the radio people were asking me questions about you, I just kind of zoned out because I was thinking about you and your beauty and me being with you, and
Brooke
that's nice.
Maggie
I mean, that's very sweet. I guess. I think I'm just. I don't normally meet guys like you.
Brooke (Host)
That's not a bad thing.
Charles
Thanks. You didn't have to say that.
Brooke (Host)
Oh.
Brooke
I feel like we've reached the point in this really riveting conversation for me to jump in real quick and ask if, Maggie, you'd be interested in going out on another date with Charles. And if you were, we would pay for it.
Maggie
Look, I. I think, Charles, that you're very sweet, very nice. I don't really think our personalities are very aligned. Like, I just. I think we're really different. But I do think you're a nice guy. And I do have a younger sister who's single. She's very cute. She's way more introverted than me. You guys might be, like, a better match.
Brooke (Host)
That's a cute idea.
Brooke
What do you think about that, Charles, going out with Maggie's younger, cute sister?
Charles
Yeah, but don't you think that would be awkward?
Brooke (Host)
It wouldn't.
Alexis
I don't think she thinks that.
Maggie
Yeah, not for me. I don't know. How would it be awkward for you?
Charles
Like, at Thanksgiving, I'm just staring at you all through dinner.
Jeffrey
Oh, my gosh.
Maggie
Oh, no.
Brooke (Host)
Oh, no, Charles, you're the one that's making it weird. Yeah.
Alexis
Stop staring.
Maggie
Well, she does look like me, so hopefully you're staring at her. And Thanksgiving is a long ways away,
Brooke (Host)
so, you know, she's giving you a lot of grace on this, Charles.
Brooke
Yeah.
Charles
Okay.
Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Podcast Promo Host
All right.
Charles
Okay.
Brooke
So I think we're paying a date now for Charles to go out with Maggie's younger sister.
Jeffrey
Yes.
Brooke (Host)
More introverted sister, hopefully.
Maggie
Oh, my God, Charles, I will do this for you, but this is, like, one chance. Okay.
Brooke (Host)
Oh, and you can't wait three weeks to call her?
Jeffrey
Yeah. Follow up, babe.
Charles
Okay. I can do it.
Brooke (Host)
You can do it.
Brooke
Okay.
Brooke (Host)
Okay. And you're excited.
Charles
I'm excited.
Brooke (Host)
All right.
Jeffrey
All right. Not in a bad way, but does he kind of suck energy out of the room?
Maggie
There is no good way of that I'm just thinking.
Charles
I just think a lot.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Got it. Yeah, that's my bad. Because I never think so. That's probably why.
Brooke (Host)
You are literally the opposite of Jose.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you are, brother.
Charles
Thank you so much.
Maggie
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Brooke (Host)
Okay.
Jeffrey
It took him a lot to fester up the confidence just to call us.
Brooke
Exactly.
Brooke (Host)
This guy is getting a lot of dates, by the way. He must be really cute with attractive
Brooke
women, but he's not. He's clearly a guy who's not comfortable speaking to people one on one, let alone on a national radio show. But he took a risk. He put himself out there for this, and what do you know? It paid off. He got a secondary date with the girl's sister.
Brooke (Host)
Yeah, I'm gonna just put it out there. I don't know if I could go through that again if the second date with the sister doesn't work out.
Jeffrey
Oh, bro, she's like him. Imagine both of them.
Brooke (Host)
I know. Thank you, Jose.
Alexis
Wait, now I'm on.
Brooke
I am the opposite. I hope we do a second date update with him in another three weeks to get back with Maggie's sister.
Brooke (Host)
Yes, and it's just the both of them saying nothing.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we're going to have to edit it down.

Episode: Glad You Didn't Die
Release Date: April 27, 2026
Podcast Host: iHeartPodcasts
This episode follows the trademark “Second Date Update” format: a listener named Charles reaches out after being “ghosted” by Maggie, the woman he went on a date with. With high energy and tongue-in-cheek commentary, hosts Brooke, Jeffrey, and Alexis dissect the awkward encounters that led to Maggie not returning Charles’s messages—culminating in a surprisingly wholesome twist involving Maggie’s little sister, and a lot of levity along the way.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted, sometimes-cringey example of “dating with a twist,” this episode delivers: from unfiltered admissions of social anxiety to a wonderfully non-traditional conclusion. Brooke and Jeffrey’s Second Date Update reminds us that sometimes the best stories are the awkward ones—and that getting ghosted might just lead you to a whole new (if unexpected) opportunity.
