And t connecting changes everything. Welcome to the second date Update podcast. We've got a brand new one for you today. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And I'm just curious, Alexis and Jose, you're both, you know, like in the dating world, is it really that bad that our listener is ready to give up altogether?
Jeff
I mean, honestly, I'm, I'm not in the dating world. I've already given up. So. I completely agree. I stopped dating a while ago.
Brooke
Yeah, I think people go through phases. You know, they'll get on the app, go on like five dates in like two weeks and then it's like delete for two months. Yeah, that's also a good point of life. Definitely dramatic on this one. You're going to hear all about it. But first let's get to some wonderful listener comments. We love when you comment and let us know what you think about the episode. And also when you subscribe, it means the world. So what do you got, Alexis? Yeah, Zane Doherty said I stumbled across some of yalls clips on TikTok at the beginning of this year and have since gone back and binged all of it. I can't believe it took this long to find y' all and I wish it was an all day show. Hey, 24 hours, my gosh.
Jeff
Never go home.
Brooke
Yeah, you know, watch what you ask for, Zane. That's what I'm gonna say. Thank you so much for finding us, Zayn. We love that. We know a lot of people found us on TikTok. And if you do want more, we do do a full show. A full hour every day of our show. But that's on our full show main feed. So just find Brooke and Jeffrey. It's in the more like this tab. So thank you for being here and sit back for a brand new second.
Ferris State University Ad
Date second date update.
Jeff
We've all heard of dating ultimatums where they put it all on the line and say either you put a ring on it or I'm gone. Okay, you have to pick. Is it me or Your mom.
Brooke
Oh my God. You can't have both. You're gonna get dumped every time. On both of those occasions, I feel.
Jeff
Like, well, if they really love you, they'll choose you. But it is pretty rare to give yourself a dating ultimatum. What, like that's it? If I don't find somebody by August, I'm just marrying my weighted blanket and calling it a.
Brooke
Well, there could be worse options. That weighted blanket, really, it really knows.
Jeff
How to like, hug you the right way. But I bring it up cuz one of our listeners says she's on the precipice of giving up on dating forever. Unless we can make this call work.
Brooke
That is so much on us. Why would you do that to us, Jackie?
Jeff
Is that right?
Jackie
Yeah, that's completely right.
Brooke
Okay, Jackie, don't come in all cheerful like you weren't just doomsday in that. Yeah. In that moment.
Jackie
No, this isn't. I'm not cheerful. I'm just letting you know that if this doesn't work out, I'm done. I am done.
Brooke
Have you heard of this segment Goes? The odds aren't very high in your favor.
Jackie
Yeah, I'm that desperate. I'm with you guys.
Jeff
Oh, okay.
Brooke
Well, you know what? We're all starting off on the same page, so. Yeah, I'm feeling more confident.
Jeff
Starting at rock bottom. Can only go up from here. Let's begin by learning the name of the guy that you met recently.
Jackie
The guy's name is Steve. We went on a date, like last Thursday.
Jeff
Thursday.
Brooke
And is there something that stood out about Steve or was it just not horrible and that's why you're okay with it?
Jackie
Well, yeah, pretty much. In the last couple months, I've been trying to say yes to anyone that asked me out.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Jeff
Okay. Cast a wide net sort of thing.
Jackie
Yeah, I'm putting myself out there.
Brooke
Okay. Like everybody tells you to.
Jackie
Right? And most of them have been okay, but with Steve, it was actually a really good date.
Jeff
Oh, all right.
Brooke
I mean, I could even see the hope in your voice when you say that.
Jeff
Yeah, not super hopeful, just like, not the worst thing ever. So where was that date?
Jackie
It was really fun. We went to a farmer's market and we were just walking around, like, sampling the foods and talking, laughing and having fun for it was, I don't know, hour and a half.
Brooke
Okay. Okay. It's good. It's a day date. Nobody's like drinking too much. I mean, did you meet there?
Jackie
Yes, we met at the farmer's market and then at the end he walked Me back to my car and. You know, normally I don't kiss someone on the first date, especially a day date, but the connection was really strong.
Brooke
So you had a cute first kiss after a farmer's market date?
Jackie
Yes. And then he looked me in the eyes and said, I had a really great time and I want to see you again soon.
Brooke
Why didn't you keep hanging out after? Yeah, you don't.
Jeff
You don't want eye contact when that happens.
Brooke
What, you want to look away in shame? Don't look at me. Yeah, that's usually eye contact. Eye contact is so intimate and nice.
Jeff
Exactly.
Brooke
You believed him, right?
Jackie
I did. And I told him that I had an amazing time and I would love to see him again.
Jeff
And there it is again.
Brooke
What?
Jeff
It's too much.
Jackie
I didn't do anything.
Brooke
Not too much. He said, I want to see you again. She said, I want to see you again. That's not too much.
Jeff
I can see how maybe you would think that, but for a guy, Sam, saying, I really like you, it's the most terrifying thing in the world.
Jackie
No, he said that to me.
Jeff
Yeah, but you're not supposed to say it back to him.
Brooke
Oh, my God, Jeff. What are you, 14?
Jeff
Brooke, I've done enough of these to know how to play the game. And being honest and open with how you really feel is the absolute worst thing you can do.
Brooke
See, I disagree.
Jackie
That was not the problem. Because that same day he texts me and he said, Sunday. Does that work? I'll pick you up for dinner and maybe we can grab a drink after.
Jeff
Okay, I stand corrected. Possibly.
Brooke
Thank you. So what happened Sunday?
Jackie
So I texted back, Yes, 100%, I'm in. And gave him a little high five emoji. And on Saturday, he texts me and says, hey, I'm going to have to cancel on Sunday. Sorry.
Jeff
Oh, my.
Brooke
Okay. Did he try to reschedule?
Jackie
No, he didn't say anything else. Doesn't explain nothing. And so I just texted back, no problem. Let's figure out another time.
Jeff
Did he respond to your.
Jackie
No. No response.
Brooke
Come. How many days has that been?
Jackie
It's been a week now. Okay, but here's the thing. So this is the only guy that I've connected with, like, and now he's ghosting me. I mean, it's so unbelievably frustrating.
Brooke
I mean, it sounds like you're doing this not just for Steve, but to make up for every other bad thing that has happened in your dating life. Like, you need this to go right.
Jackie
And I really just want to Know why? I mean, like, what happened?
Brooke
Right.
Jeff
Well, you said it's been a week. Maybe he's learned something about you in between that period of time. Like, you don't have to answer this, but have you served time in prison?
Brooke
That could be hot, though. I mean, if it's for the right crime.
Jeff
Yeah, like even like a minor.
Jackie
No, I have not.
Jeff
Okay. No prison. Is there anything that's available online to the public that somebody could come across and might be like, oh, God, this is a red flag.
Jackie
Seriously, there's nothing that I can think of.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
Okay. All right. Well, this is definitely a mystery.
Brooke
Maybe he just had a bad reaction to the baba ganoush you guys had at the farmer's market. Wasn't able to recover.
Jeff
I don't even know what that is.
Brooke
Is that your food of choice market? I don't know. I was just at a hummus stand last weekend. So hot.
Jeff
Yes. So let's come back. We're gonna definitely got kisses from her husband after that. Oh, totally. We're gonna come back and call Steve for you here and hopefully get an explanation for why he isn't arranging a second date or let you give up on dating forever. That's what she wants.
Brooke
Yeah, I know.
Jeff
You're right.
Jackie
No, that's where I'm at.
Brooke
I'm serious. I am done. All right, well, I'm hopeful.
Jeff
Yes. Push you back from the cliff. And when we get your second date update, right after this second date update, today, the entire future of a woman's dating life lies inside of our tender throats.
Brooke
Our throats?
Jeff
Yeah. Because if we don't say the right thing and get Steve to agree to another date, Jackie has already said she is ready to give up on finding love forever.
Brooke
No pressure. You definitely don't need to tell Steve this.
Jeff
No, but I'm sure that won't happen anyway. Because they went to a farmer's market, hot, you know, sober, walked around, had a great eye contact the whole time. Soup's hot.
Mental Health Podcast Host
See?
Brooke
Hot. And organic.
Jeff
Yeah, they laughed. Even planned out another date after telling each other they both wanted to see each other again.
Brooke
You forgot the great first kiss. Yeah, that was such a big deal. That was like the moment. Right?
Jeff
Well, I thought when I said farmers market kissing was implied, cuz who doesn't? But yeah, it was all going according to plan until the day before their second date when Steve texted canceling with no explanation and then went dark. So, Brooke, your thoughts on the situation at hand?
Brooke
Oh, God, I just feel like it's not gonna be Good. If he's in a different relationship, like if he's cheating or.
Jeff
Well, hold on, Brooke. How can he cheat if they've only gone on one date?
Brooke
No, no. Not cheating on her. Cheating on whoever he's dating. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jeff
You're saying Jackie could be the other woman?
Brooke
Well, I mean, it's just like a day date.
Jeff
Jackie, are you cool with being the other woman?
Jackie
Absolutely not.
Jeff
You didn't say that. You didn't say that.
Brooke
Okay, it is good to check. Yeah.
Jeff
All right. Hopefully that's not what the situation.
Brooke
No, I don't want it to be that. I don't. I hope he's just busy at other.
Jeff
Farmers markets scoping out the best spots.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah.
Jeff
The best aubergines or whatever. Brooke likes to never ask, is he a farmer? Yeah. Does he work there?
Jackie
He is not a farmer.
Jeff
Okay. All right. We've ruled out a couple possibilities. Let's just call him and see if he picks up. I'm dialing his number right now. Here we go.
Steve
Hello?
Jeff
Hey, is this Steve?
Steve
Yeah, who's this?
Brooke
Hey.
Jeff
Hey, man.
Brooke
What's up? Steve?
Jeff
Good morning. You're. You're on a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Steve
Oh, great.
Brooke
We're gonna take that without any sarcasm attached to it.
Jeff
But I like your style already, Steve.
Steve
I can tell what's going on.
Jeff
Well, what's going on is this is a segment that we do called a Second date Update. I don't know if you've ever heard of that before.
Steve
Nope.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
But it's actually kind of a fun thing that we do where we help out listeners who are confused after they're not getting a call back for a second date. We try and help them figure out the reason why. And. Okay, there's a woman that you went out with recently. Actually, you planned a second date with her, but canceled the last minute. Her name's Jackie.
Steve
I. I don't really want to talk about this.
Brooke
Hold on.
Jeff
Bro, is this sensitive to you?
Steve
I. I feel bad.
Brooke
Can I ask? Are you single?
Jeff
Brooks dying to ask. Brooke says it was so much hope.
Steve
Here's the deal.
Brooke
Oh, no.
Jeff
Here's the deal. Wait a minute. Oh, God. Why? What's the deal?
Steve
I did have a strong connection with her, but if she knew what was going on, it would probably hurt her feelings, so it's better left unsaid.
Jeff
Oh, well, I'm trying to protect someone's feelings hurts them more. I think they want to be direct.
Brooke
That's true. I think her feelings are already hurt.
Jeff
Yeah. Because she was really looking forward to that second hangout and when you canceled with no explanation. Now she's just kind of confused. Yeah, she was all excited, doesn't know where she stands. We're just trying to give her a little bit. Bit of information.
Steve
It's just I had a stronger romantic connection with somebody else, and I didn't think it would be fair to her to continue.
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Jackie
So disgusting.
Brooke
That's a pretty normal job.
Jeff
Okay, everybody. Okay, everybody who's on the call right now, let's try and be respectful.
Brooke
What?
Jeff
And hear Steve out.
Jackie
I can't listen to this anymore. Steve is a cheater.
Brooke
You're a cheater. Tell him that. Jackie's on the phone.
Jeff
Hold on.
Jackie
Because, no, he knows it's me. He knows it's me, and I know a cheater when I smell one.
Jeff
Oh, you smell it?
Brooke
Wait, wait, wait, wait. I think that's my fault. Jackie, hold on.
Jackie
What?
Brooke
I feel like I put that idea in your head. He didn't say he cheated. He just said that he. He went out with someone else and had a stronger connection.
Jeff
He didn't quite.
Jackie
Yeah, but whatever. He was gonna cheat on me eventually.
Jeff
Hold on. You're making a lot of assumptions here, Jackie. And I know you're definitely hurt by what you heard, but let's give Steve a chance to explain himself.
Steve
I spoke my piece. I don't have much else to say.
Brooke
Okay, okay. So you're just.
Jackie
You know what, Steve? I have more to say.
Brooke
Oh, God.
Jeff
Oh, God.
Jackie
So when we were walking around the farmer's market and I didn't want to drink some water fountain because it's, like, public and gross. You never offered to buy me a drink.
Brooke
What?
Jackie
Holding up a bat.
Jeff
She's, like, holding on to that.
Brooke
Where'd that come from?
Jackie
No, he's selfish. He's selfish, and he's probably selfish in bed.
Brooke
Whoa, whoa. Jackie, you are all over the place right now. I understand your feelings are hurt because this didn't turn out how you wanted it to, but this is not the reaction that you are going to want to have.
Jeff
And honestly, I've never made that correlation before with guys not being good in bed that don't buy water for their women.
Jackie
Well, you know, you're also a guy.
Brooke
Oh, yeah?
Jeff
Yeah. Well, that's fair. And Jeff loves water. I am tell you, I drink. I keep it all to myself. Jeremy, can you confirm that you're a selfish guy? Oh, sorry. Steve, can you confirm that you're a selfish guy?
Steve
I don't know what's happening.
Jeff
I just. I just want to know what's your take on this whole situation?
Steve
Went on a good day. I just had a stronger connection with someone else.
Jeff
I'm.
Steve
I'm sorry.
Jeff
Oh, great.
Jackie
You're rubbing that in my face again.
Brooke
In your face Jacket.
Jeff
You know what?
Jackie
He is. He's rubbing it in my face. He chose a over me.
Brooke
Oh, you don't even know who I went out with.
Jeff
You don't know.
Brooke
She was probably. Probably a lovely person.
Jackie
You guys, what are you doing? You're, like, spinning this to make him the victim. He is not the victim here.
Jeff
It's just victim of circumstances.
Brooke
It's just how dating works. Yeah, sometimes you meet somebody you like more.
Jeff
I don't think he's in a rel. Like a committed relationship with this other person. It sounds like just a casual date, right?
Steve
Steve, I really don't think I should say anymore.
Jackie
You know what's really sad? I really wanted to see your basement. I never got to see your basement.
Mental Health Podcast Host
Basement.
Brooke
Now you're just saying random stuff.
Jeff
Actually, I was.
Brooke
Did he offer a tour of a basement?
Jeff
I was kind of thinking the same thing. I wonder what's in his basement.
Jackie
Come on, Steve, tell them.
Jeff
Yeah, what? What is he talking about?
Steve
I have a movie room in my basement. And we talked about that.
Brooke
Okay, apparently she had a lot of hopes based around that movie room.
Jackie
I didn't get to see it.
Brooke
Oh, no, Steve, don't say. It has a little popcorn maker in there, too. I was all on Steve's side until he just poured salt in the wound. All over that popcorn maker. Okay, I know.
Jackie
You know what?
Steve
Sorry. It's a dope basement. And yes, I have multiple flavored salts.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Jeff
Actually, that is kind of cool. You got that ranch.
Jackie
You need to go. You need to go now.
Jeff
All right, Hang up. Okay.
Brooke
I think maybe you just need to work on yourself right now, Jackie.
Jeff
Let's do a little self reflect.
Steve
Yeah.
Jackie
No, no, no, no, no. You know, I'm deleting your texts. I'm blocking your number. You're never gonna hear from me again. And I want you to know you lost out on something really good.
Jeff
Really good, really stable type of relationship. So. Steve, I'm sorry, dude.
Steve
It's fine. I feel like I dodged a bullet. It's like I'm watching the Matrix.
Jackie
I said hang up on him, O. I don't want to hear from him. Hang on.
Jeff
Okay, Steve, you dirt bag, you're gone.
Brooke
Yeah. All right.
Jeff
We dropped Steve.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Jeff
Okay, Jackie. Oh, my God. He Is a cheater girl.
Brooke
No, don't add on.
Jeff
Oh, wow.
Jackie
No, no, no, no, no, no, you guys, honestly, it's fine.
Jeff
It's fine.
Jackie
I know men. After that, he is definitely gonna reach out to me. I like a little crazy.
Jeff
I mean, that's actually kind of true.
Brooke
The little is a different definition.
Jeff
Are you saying you put all of that him to call you?
Jackie
I mean, I juiced it up a little bit, but I'm legitimately pissed.
Jeff
That was a little bit.
Brooke
I can't imagine what a lot. I know.
Jeff
Full blown. All right, well, Jackie, after you take your hiatus from the dating world, call us and we can reach out to that next guy for you.
Jackie
Yeah, no, I'm going to hear from Steve.
Jeff
Call him in two years.
Brooke
What is happening?
Jeff
You heard about that basement, right? It is pretty dumb. I don't blame you.
Jackie
I'm not going to block him. And then he's going to call me and you will end up doing an update update on me.
Brooke
Oh, that's a bold about your healthy relationship.
Jeff
Sure. That's the direction this is gonna go. You manifest a lot differently than I do.
Brooke
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
Was it me or did it feel like she definitely had a plane of attack there.
Brooke
What happened? I don't know, man.
Jeff
She went 0 to 100 though.
Brooke
And then she said she like what? Sauced it up, juiced it up? I don't know. She did. She had it.
Jeff
So it was all on purpose.
Brooke
It was an emotional roller coaster and I'm exhausted.
Jeff
The second he mentioned a stronger connection with another woman, she completely went off the handle. Yeah, but oh man. Wouldn't it be something though if after all of this she was right that.
Brooke
He did call her back? Yeah.
Jeff
Like Steve thinks about it and he's like, you know what? She's kind of unhinged, but I kind of like it.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeff
The only way I would have cheated. Yeah, she's right on every level.
Brooke
The only way Steve's calling her back is if it doesn't work out with the other girl. Yeah. Yeah. Then I could see it maybe happening.
Jeff
And then it's like a hookup thing.
Brooke
Probably.
Jeff
Sure. It's probably a less than 1% chance that it all goes the way that she's thinking.
Brooke
But wouldn't that be a wild update up?
Jeff
It would be.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeff
And I really appreciate her optimism and all of your optimism in your dating lives. If you want our help, we are ready to step in and call that person who isn't calling you back. By the way, go check out all of our second date updates. They're up online wherever you get your podcasts at.

Podcast Summary: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – "Hang Up On Him"
Release Date: May 21, 2025
Host/Authors: Brooke and Jeffrey
Podcast Platform: iHeartPodcasts
In the episode titled "Hang Up On Him", Brooke and Jeffrey delve into the challenging world of modern dating, specifically focusing on the frustration of being "ghosted" after what appeared to be a promising first date. The hosts aim to provide clarity and support to listeners navigating the unpredictable terrain of romantic relationships.
The episode centers around Jackie, a listener who reached out feeling disheartened by her recent dating experience. Jackie shared her story of meeting Steve at a farmer's market, where they enjoyed a delightful hour and a half browsing, sampling foods, and exchanging meaningful conversation.
The date culminated in a sweet first kiss, and both Jackie and Steve expressed mutual interest in pursuing a second date.
However, the excitement was short-lived. Steve canceled the planned second date last minute without providing a clear reason, leaving Jackie confused and frustrated.
Brooke and Jeffrey empathize with Jackie’s predicament, exploring the various emotions and uncertainties that come with being ghosted.
Brooke’s Insight:
Jeff's Perspective:
They humorously speculate on potential reasons for Steve’s sudden disappearance, ranging from hidden personal issues to mere loss of interest. The hosts aim to shed light on common dating behaviors, encouraging listeners to reflect on their own experiences and expectations.
In an attempt to uncover the truth behind Steve’s actions, Brooke and Jeffrey decide to contact him directly on the air.
Initiating the Call:
Steve’s Explanation:
He further clarifies that his decision was based on developing a stronger romantic connection with someone else, emphasizing that it wasn’t an act of cheating but a personal choice to pursue a different relationship trajectory.
