Brooke
She's back.
Jeffrey
Oh, who's back?
Brooke
Return callers of the second date update.
Jeffrey
That's fun.
Brooke
Laura, you may remember her. She was the avid gym goer who. Who roasted her date when she found out he tried to use a coupon at Nobu.
Laura
Oh yeah.
Brooke
Cause he claimed he didn't know that sushi could be that expensive. Oh yeah.
Jeffrey
Wow. You came back, Laura.
Brooke
The thing about Laura, she's got high end taste. And I'm guessing that she is totally worth it. But you know, those types of ladies can be a little bit hard to please. And now there's another guy who's ghosting her. Probably cause he's so intimidated by you, Laura. That's what I would guess. But welcome back to our show. It's nice to have you on.
Laura
Thank you.
Jeffrey
I love that you have high end taste, but free when it comes to any sort of dating advice.
Brooke
She knows where to find good value. Yeah. That speaks a lot about you, Laura. So apparently this is a new guy that you want us to call today, right? What's his name?
Laura
His name's Troy.
Jeffrey
Troy.
Brooke
Troy.
Jeffrey
With a big sigh. What's going on with Troy?
Laura
Okay, so I met this guy Troy. I was kind of like on the down low for a little while and I was like, all right, I'm gonna try this again.
Jeffrey
Okay, so you took some time off of dating after having to recover from.
Laura
Your experience with us, from the Nobu coupon guy. Yeah.
Brooke
Okay, good for you for deciding to get back out there.
Jeffrey
You meet Troy online on an app.
Laura
Yeah. And I like his profile because it shows him being, like, super active. He's, like, into swimming and other activities, hiking and things like that, and that's really important for me.
Brooke
He just has, like, a big fan of $100 bills in his hand, just, like, wafting himself with it.
Laura
No, it's just like the activity stuff and the, you know, his body. And his body.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah, sure, his body. That was the only thing that Alexis just perked up to.
Brooke
Yeah, you're right.
Jeffrey
I should have thought about the swimming photo. Obviously, there's the body.
Brooke
Okay.
Laura
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
Hot body. Active Troy. Oh, yeah, that matters.
Jeffrey
All right. So did you initiate conversation with him?
Laura
It was like a mutual thing and we just kind of had good conversation and talked about working out.
Brooke
Nice.
Laura
So I found this thing online and it was the most incredible view and the perfect selfie spot.
Jeffrey
Okay. Okay. So you're picking your hiking based on the quality of picture you're going to get from it?
Laura
Of course. Because what girl doesn't want to look like a professional hiker standing on a rock?
Jeffrey
Yeah, right. Okay. But hiking's a fun activity. He's an active guy. Is that what you propose?
Brooke
No, no, no, no, no. It's about the Instagram photo, girl, not about the hike.
Laura
So he was super down and we had a really nice hike and the pictures came out amazing.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Laura
Sori is, like the best ig. I don't want to say IG boyfriend because we're not, like, together, but, like, standard wise, he'd be like the perfect IG boyfriend. Like, he takes really good pictures.
Jeffrey
Okay, so that's cute. You got cute pictures. Did you take pictures together?
Laura
Yeah, we did some selfies and then we took pics of each other and we got some really good shots.
Jeffrey
Cool. That sounds good. It sounds like you're into it.
Brooke
So how did it end then?
Laura
Okay, so this is the fun part. On the way down, Troy slips, falls down and sprains his ankle.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Brooke
Probably saw, like a cool chipmunk and he, like, didn't know where to step.
Jeffrey
He went to go pet it. I'm sure that's it.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Dude, that's terrible.
Laura
So basically he can't walk down the mountain and he's obviously too heavy for me to carry him back down the mountain, so I didn't know what to do. I kind of had a little meltdown and I was like, all right, let me see if my phone actually has service and I can call somebody to get help.
Brooke
Is there no one else on the trail?
Laura
No, no, it was super quiet.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Were you able to reach someone you're.
Jeffrey
Going to call in park rangers or what?
Laura
I tried reaching out to a lot of people, like friends, emergency services. I mean, basically anyone who could, like, help get him down the mountain.
Troy
Wow.
Jeffrey
Did someone come help?
Laura
Eventually, medics showed up and came and helped.
Jeffrey
Whoa.
Brooke
Wow.
Laura
But the good news is on that avenue, that it wasn't, like, the perfect end to a perfect date, but at least got to, like, sit and chat. And we had a ton of really.
Jeffrey
Intimate talk times while he's wincing in pain.
Brooke
Yeah, no, we always say this, but this is another cute story where if things work out for you, it's kind of like, yeah, you sprained his ankle our first date.
Laura
Right.
Brooke
Right. And would you take more pictures of each other while he was sitting down on the ground? What else are you gonna do? Good lighting of the ankle.
Jeffrey
I mean, it's kind of wild that he hasn't. I'm assuming he hasn't called you at all.
Laura
Yeah, that's why I called, because, like, he was talking a ton, and now he's not talking at all. And I don't understand. And, like, if it's because he got hurt, that's really kind of dumb.
Brooke
He's not embarrassed because, like, getting hurt is an accident.
Jeffrey
I don't know. He could be like, if he's a.
Brooke
Big buff dude, you think he's like, oh, no, I slipped on a rock. I mean, this is a little bit unlike our typical dates that we talk about on the show, where it's like, really quick, you'd like coffee, chat, and then you're gone. This is the two of them sitting on a mountain together for an hour with nothing to do but talk. Yeah. And take pictures of each other. Was there anything in the conversation that happened there that might be little bit of a red flag for him?
Laura
I don't think so. I mean, we were talking about all different topics. Like, a lot of gym talk. You know, just experience in the gym and what kind of different activities we like and a little bit about family stuff. And, I mean, we weren't talking about, like, getting married and having kids, if that's what you mean.
Brooke
Oh, why not?
Jeffrey
Yeah. So you sprained your ankle. How many kids do you want to have?
Brooke
I feel like this always comes up, and I just want to get ahead of it. The medics that came to save him Are they male? Are they female, Are they attractive, Are they unattractive? They showed up naked like firefighters. Like you weren't flirting with the hot paramedic guys that came up to save.
Laura
No, I was talking to the medics, but I hope, I mean, hopefully he didn't take it as me hitting on them.
Jeffrey
Okay. And I'll just say if you talking to a man is something that he wouldn't call you back for, that's a red flag. Red flag on his part, you know?
Brooke
Well, okay, this is going to be an interesting one. We're going to call Troy for you and first, I mean, see if he answers the phone.
Jeffrey
Well, just see if he needs his little boo boos kissed. Yeah, maybe that's where she comes in.
Brooke
Oh, Brooke's gonna roast him.
Jeffrey
Thank you, Alexis.
Brooke
Hopefully his phone is within reaching distance and if he answers, we're gonna ask him what's going on. Why aren't you calling back Laura after a great hiking date?
Jeffrey
Well, a great date, bad hiking experience.
Laura
Yeah, the first three quarters were amazing.
Brooke
Yeah, hopefully he's not still up on that mountain trying to get down. But we're going to find out when we right after this second date update. If you're just joining us, we're in the middle of a tense Heart pumping, ankle throbbing. Second date update with Laura. Heart pumping because she went on a romantic mountain hike with a guy named Troy. Ankle throbbing because Troy fell and sprained his ankle on the walk down the hill.
Jeffrey
Poor Troy.
Brooke
It was so bad he couldn't make it down on his own. So Laura had to call out for help until medics could arrive. Stayed with whole time, kept him calm, gave him mouth to mouth. And after all of that, after saving his life and snatching him from the jaws of death, Troy has the gall to ghost her. Wow.
Jeffrey
Wow. Maybe she had bad breath during that mouth to mouth session.
Brooke
I don't care. I'm just gonna say it. Troy is a giant bee.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Brooke
Oh.
Jeffrey
What's a bee thing?
Brooke
Big baby. Okay. And I am dying to hear what he has to say too.
Jeffrey
Jeff.
Brooke
What, if any cute woodland animals he saw and has to on on the trail path. Laura, are you with me?
Laura
I don't think he's like a big baby. He got hurt. Come on.
Jeffrey
Oh, gosh.
Brooke
So forgiving.
Jeffrey
Has anyone thought maybe he's upset that you talked all this big talk about the gym, but then we're too weak to piggyback him all the way back to the car?
Brooke
Oh, God, he's not going to expect that. Yeah, or drag him down. Maybe.
Jeffrey
I don't know. I would have done it. My dad says I'm good German, working stock. I'm built to carry heavy things. Relate to that.
Brooke
Why do you have to work that into every single Second Date update that we do? Wants to lift a man. We're not even going to bring that up to Troy if he answers the phone because we don't want to get too excited about it. But let's see if he picks up. We're going to dial his number right now. Here we go.
Laura
Thanks, you guys.
Jeffrey
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Troy?
Troy
It is.
Brooke
Oh, Troy.
Jeffrey
Whoa, Jeff, you be nice.
Brooke
What are you talking about?
Jeffrey
Hi, Troy.
Troy
Hello.
Jeffrey
Sorry, it's confusing.
Brooke
I'm just kidding, man.
Jeffrey
We're.
Brooke
We're doing something on our show. We hope you'll stick around and be a part of it. It's called Second Date Update.
Troy
Okay.
Jeffrey
Have you heard of that before?
Troy
No. No, I haven't.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Okay. It's where we help out our listeners who have gone out on a date with somebody and a second meetup hasn't happened yet. We try and help facilitate it or figure out why the other person doesn't want to.
Troy
Okay.
Brooke
And that seems to be the situation, at least according to one of our listeners named Laura. You met the other day.
Troy
She reached out to you.
Jeffrey
Yes. She's like, dude, it sounds like you had a crazy hike where you got injured. We heard all about it.
Troy
Yeah. She's been texting me a whole bunch.
Jeffrey
I don't.
Troy
I don't know if I'm feeling it, to be honest with you. That's kind of why I didn't reach back out to her.
Brooke
She can sense that. Yeah. That's what she wants to know.
Laura
Why?
Brooke
That's the confusing part to her. Because she essentially saved you from the brink of death.
Jeffrey
She did not say that, Jeff. Exaggerated.
Brooke
I mean, I'm not saying that the thought crossed your mind to leave you on that mountain to fend for yourself, but she did do a lot to help.
Jeffrey
She did. After you sprained your ankle.
Troy
I think you guys have the story wrong, if that's what you guys really think happened.
Brooke
Okay, what do we have wrong?
Jeffrey
I mean, what did exaggerated.
Brooke
Well, sorry, you know, I'm just kidding.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
I'm just frustrated because we're. We're friends of Laura's and we really just want to help her out. So if you could maybe explain your side of it.
Troy
Well, there isn't my version. There's just the version. And I don't know what she told you exactly, but My ankle was banged up. I mean, you guys are laughing about it, but it was pretty bad. Like, it was swollen immediately. I couldn't walk on it.
Jeffrey
She said that she felt really bad for you. I know we're laughing, but that's just because that's what we do.
Brooke
Obviously. You could have walked. You couldn't even hobble, bro.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I mean, that's why she called everybody. Everybody she knew. Got emergency services up there.
Troy
Yeah, kind of. At first, he tried to carry me down, and she kind of dropped me back on my ankle and hit it again.
Brooke
Oh, okay.
Jeffrey
That's too hard to carry someone.
Brooke
That's unfortunate, but that's just bad. She's trying. She's putting in the effort to help you.
Troy
I get that. I get that.
Brooke
All right.
Troy
Okay. She didn't have service or whatever, and neither did I, so she said she's gonna walk down the trail a little bit until she gets service. She disappeared for at least a half an hour. She came back, she was all excited, and I was like, okay, good. Did you find somebody on the trail? She said, no, no, no. I. I called an Uber.
Laura
Hold on.
Jeffrey
Is she kidding?
Brooke
To make you laugh. That's something a guy would say if someone was hurt.
Jeffrey
You have a car. It's not that you don't need a car. You need someone to carry you down.
Brooke
So It's a joke.
Troy
100. That's what I said to her. And she basically was like, oh, I didn't think about that. Like, yeah, they can't drive up the mountain to just come pick me up in the car. That's not how this works.
Jeffrey
Well, come on. Give her. Give her the benefit. You know, some people don' you don't think well in emergency situations.
Troy
Yeah, we were talking about it, and basically I was trying to advise her. Look, call EMTs, call emergency service, call friends, anybody that you can think of. I need some help out here. So she did do that, which is nice. And while we were sitting there waiting, she said that she figured out how to make, like, a homemade tourniquet for my leg.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Troy
She wanted to get some sticks and branches and wrap up my leg or something like that. Yeah, it was like being stuck out there with Nurse Ratched in the mountains.
Brooke
Nurse Ratchet.
Jeffrey
Wait.
Brooke
Like, she didn't do a good job?
Troy
Yeah, I didn't need a tourniquet. I had a sprained ankle.
Jeffrey
All right?
Troy
I wasn't losing any blood or anything like that. The limbs didn't need to be chopped off.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Troy
It was a very simple thing. I just Needed help, sure.
Brooke
But it couldn't hurt to have a tourniquet.
Jeffrey
It actually could hurt a lot. It cuts off your circulation.
Brooke
It was preventative. A preventative tourniquet? Just in case something got worse.
Jeffrey
I mean, at the end of the day, she's trying. She's not a medical expert.
Brooke
Expert.
Jeffrey
She's doing her best. You can't even give her that.
Troy
Yeah, no, her best was just shockingly bad, that's all.
Jeffrey
Maybe.
Brooke
Okay, well, I feel like maybe she was panicked, a little freaked out in the moment, just like you were doing whatever she could think of to try and help you out. And you don't have to take that from me. You can listen to Laura right now because she's on the other line waiting to talk to you.
Troy
Wait, are you serious? She's been listening the whole time?
Brooke
Yeah, that's how the segment works, man. Sorry.
Laura
Hey, Troy. Yeah, it's me, Nurse Ratchet. How you doing? How you feeling?
Brooke
Wow, she's really a nurse.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Probably say sorry now, huh?
Jeffrey
She should not apologize.
Brooke
No, him for calling her Nurse Ratchet.
Troy
Come on, Laura. You know, it was being you were in charge of the water. I mean, what was going on with the water?
Brooke
You remember that?
Jeffrey
What was she doing with the water?
Laura
I'm sorry. I was in charge of bringing water on the hike, and I. I got a smoothies instead.
Brooke
What? Well, that's nice.
Laura
I. I drank my smoothie and then it was like, so yummy that I wound up drinking Troy Smoothi because I figured it was an easy hike and we'd be down the mountain pretty quickly, and then I could just get water when we got to the bottom. No big deal.
Jeffrey
Okay, so what, you drink his nerve that you brought Ratchet?
Brooke
Well, she needed the extra nutrients to go search for help. He was just sitting there on the ground.
Jeffrey
I mean, Troy, at the end of the day, she finally did get someone to help you, right?
Troy
Yeah, arguably hours later and more nutrient deficient than I needed to be, but yes, for sure.
Brooke
Laura, you were listening. And you heard what he said about you doing the tournique and calling the Uber and all that stuff. He just wasn't very impressed. Like, what were you thinking listening to that?
Laura
I'm not like the best outdoorsman or outdoors woman or whatever you call it. I'm not a lumberjack. I'm not a medic. Like, I did what came to mind in the spur of the moment. And also, like, some Ubers do have four wheel drive, so, like, that part's not on me.
Troy
Oh, this again. The four Wheel drive thing again? Come on. No, they don't.
Brooke
It's a good point, Troy.
Jeffrey
Does that mean you already brought up that point while you guys are on the mountain?
Troy
We talked about it for like 10 minutes already when we were on the Mountain XL.
Jeffrey
It'll be fine.
Brooke
It's going to be a hummer. They can get all over, like, every type of terrain.
Jeffrey
Bro.
Brooke
This is at least endearing that she's just trying. It's not working. We get it.
Jeffrey
But she's cute. She's cute. She's got good energy. Come on, Troy.
Laura
Thank you, Laura.
Troy
I. I will say, if you do go outdoors with any of your friends or family, God help them.
Jeffrey
She's not the one with a hurt ankle.
Brooke
That's a really sweet thing to say. He basically blessed her and her entire family whenever they go on adventures together. Apolog. Troy, I'm feeling some sort of shift in you, like you're wanting to say yes to another date with Laura, especially when we offered to pay for it.
Troy
I'm just grateful it wasn't anything more than a hurt ankle. I don't think I'd be here today if it was anything more than that.
Brooke
Yeah, thank God, you know.
Laura
Okay, we weren't traversing Mount Everest. We were just going on a little simple hike. I didn't think it was a big deal.
Jeffrey
I mean, I mean, yeah, seriously, it was an Instagram worthy hike. Like, it can't be.
Brooke
And I'm just trying to ask you if you'd like to meet up with her one more time. It doesn't have to be on a mountain. You could do it in the city side somewhere. Yeah, and we would pay for the date.
Laura
I mean, we can, like, go to the city and, like, rent a scooter. I'm pretty sure both of us can fit on it.
Brooke
Oh, yeah. Maybe make a, like, reservation at the ER ahead of time, before the date happens.
Jeffrey
Is that how the ER works? No.
Brooke
Just in case, you know, get your reservation in early.
Troy
Look, I don't want to be Mr. Pessimistic, so if we can keep it inside. I did have a good time with you in the moments where I wasn't dying. So, yeah, let's give it another shot. That sounds fun.
Jeffrey
That's kind of cute. Troy.
Brooke
You're going on a date with Nurse Ratched. Good for you.
Troy
I hope not. Oh, my God, I hope not.
Laura
And I'll bring my tourniquet.
Jeffrey
He's not bleeding.
Brooke
I think it's kind of a freaky thing that she's into you guys have fun. Okay.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Brooke
Oh, man. You know what I couldn't stop thinking about the entire time we were on the phone with them?
Jeffrey
What do I want to know? I'm not sure.
Brooke
It was the hiking movie with James Franco where his arm gets stuck for 127 hours on a trail just to cut off his own arm.
Jeffrey
That's based on real story.
Brooke
We were dangerously close to that story this time. I never saw that movie. Laura was gonna go looking for help, and then she was gonna come back up the hill with a buzz saw. Be like, okay, hear me out. I have an idea. After hearing everything she tried, I'm surprised it wasn't the first option.
Jeffrey
I think tried to get away from her, it sounded like.
Brooke
But luckily he was able to see through it and realized she really was just trying to help, doing whatever she could.
Jeffrey
Did he realize that, you think?
Brooke
Or maybe she's trying to get off the phone with us like he was trying to get off that mountain.
Jeffrey
I think he just needs to realize that she's not going to be his person in case of emergency.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah. Not even like a serious emergency. Like the mildest of emergencies. She will absolutely panic. Yes. And that's okay.
Jeffrey
That's okay. We all react differently.
Brooke
That's right.
Jeffrey
I want an update from them. Yeah, I hope they write back.
Brooke
I'm sure we'll get a call from them when they're in the ER at some point. But if you want some help with your dating life, feel free to email the show. We can call that person who's not calling you back. And if you want to see our big resume of second date updates, there's lots and lots and lots.
Jeffrey
Business like and not fun.
Brooke
Jeff. Yeah, you can check it out wherever you get your podcast at. Brooke and Jeffrey.
Jeffrey
