Brooke
It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning on our second date podcast. Not like is that hard to find these days since we're charting on the top comedy charts every week on Spotify.
Jeffrey
You're welcome. Yeah, I go to bed every night and I just stream it on 5,000 different laptops.
Brooke
Oh, you're the one that's doing it. That's how we're getting there.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I'm sorry, guys, but I'm tired of those ratings.
Brooke
No. All right, hey, thanks for being here. And don't forget, we do have 45 more minutes of this painful show if you can endure it over on our main feed. Just go to Brooke and Jeffrey for that one. But right now, let's get to what you came for. That's the second date.
Jose
Yes, Second date update. Occasionally we have return listeners, friends of the show who come back multiple times to this segment. For whatever reason.
Brooke
I call them people that like punishment.
Jose
Yeah, and they'll sometimes get nicknames like Mat man or Roofer. Haven't heard from either of those guys in a while, though, so hopefully they both found love. And roofer isn't like living in a religious compound in the woods or something.
Brooke
Why can't both be true, Jeff?
Jose
Maybe that's what he wants. That's fair.
Jeffrey
Some people like religious compounds.
Jose
That's true. A lot of romance there.
Jeffrey
The thing is, they can't leave.
Jose
But it's rare for us to have a woman come back to the show after we failed to get her a date.
Brooke
Yeah, because usually the smarter ones, women.
Jose
Learn their lessons much, much quicker than we do. But today is different because we have the return of someone. I'm nicknaming Ms. Crustworthy Julia the Piley.
Brooke
Oh. Oh, my God. You're the pie woman.
Jose
Who?
Brooke
Remember? Then she did the cakes on the date. First she tried all the pies, and then she was doing the cakes, and it was all about pastries.
Jose
Okay, I'll try and explain it less frantically than Brooke did last time. She took a dude to some random house to eat homemade pies there.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's right. And it was just a house with pie in it and trust system.
Brooke
And they sat in the car and they ate the whole pie. And then he was upset because he realized that she had Taken somebody on a cake date and done the same.
Jose
Thing with the cake. We don't have to recap the whole thing. We get, she's the pie lady.
Brooke
I'm upset for her.
Jose
AKA Ms. Crust Worthy.
Brooke
When it comes to pastries, this woman really sticks.
Jose
So that ended up not working out, but now she's back on the line again with a new guy who is guest ghosting her.
Jeffrey
Welcome.
Jose
Welcome back, Ms. Crustworthy.
Julia
Hi.
Jeffrey
You're like Mrs. Butterworth.
Brooke
I have to know before anything. Was there a theme to this date?
Julia
No. I mean, there was going to be, but no.
Jose
So it's been a few months since we last talked to you. What's happened in that time?
Julia
I've been dating around. I found this wonderful guy. His name's Ben.
Brooke
Okay.
Julia
And it's been going so well so.
Brooke
Far, and it's been. I got it, too. I got it, too. Yeah.
Jose
Really look hard at that sentence to find it, but sure. Okay. So what's Ben like?
Julia
He's great. He's really funny. And we went to some happy hours, and it was really fun.
Brooke
Oh, you went on multiple dates with Ben?
Jose
Does he like pie?
Julia
Yeah. And he even invited me out with his friends.
Brooke
Oh, too nice.
Jose
Well, hold on. We asked a very important question. Is he into pie?
Brooke
Jeff, that's the old her.
Julia
He is.
Brooke
Okay. Okay. It's still her.
Jeffrey
You don't grow out of pie, Brook.
Brooke
Yeah, but that's crazy. He brought you out to meet all his friends and stuff already. It sounds like things were going, like. How many dates has it been?
Julia
It's been two dates. Two happy hours.
Jose
Two happy hours.
Brooke
He looks quicks to bring the friends in, but I guess it's happy hours, so maybe everybody's there, you know?
Jose
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Yeah. You don't have to be stuck, like, facing each other.
Jose
Okay.
Julia
Yeah. And. And he was taking pictures. And, like, I feel like if you're taking pictures, that means it's serious.
Brooke
Pictures of what? Yeah.
Jose
Like, are we talking clothes on or clothes off?
Brooke
I just felt, like, selfies or, like.
Julia
No, like, with his friends.
Brooke
With his friends. Wait, you with his friends?
Julia
Yeah, it was me and a couple of his guy friends.
Jose
Oh, that sounds like a big deal.
Jeffrey
That actually is. I don't know if I've ever had a girl go, but if you take.
Brooke
A group photo, you're gonna not be in it. Like, you're gonna put everybody in the photo.
Jose
Absolute 100. Exclude people from those photos.
Brooke
I'm with Jeff actually, on that one. I think you could totally say, all right, guys, photo. Can you take this for us, right?
Jose
No, we totally are. We're like good friends. Only best friends. Now, number one friend, I think a.
Brooke
Guy taking a photo period is. That's a good point. You know, their friends.
Julia
Anyways.
Brooke
Yeah.
Julia
Yeah. And. And then next morning, he's like snapping me from the airport.
Brooke
Oh.
Jose
Oh.
Brooke
Did you. Did you know he was flying out?
Julia
No.
Brooke
Oh, where's he going?
Jeffrey
That's.
Brooke
But that's a good sign. Like, he's continuing this communication.
Julia
I guess so. But, like, why wouldn't you tell me.
Ben
You'Re going out of town, you know?
Brooke
Well, you only went on two dates. It's not like you're gonna know.
Jose
Yeah, happy hours too.
Jeffrey
So still mention it. Like, hey, by the way, I'm flying tomorrow maybe.
Brooke
He's having so much fun asking her questions, getting to know her.
Jose
Did you find out where he was going?
Julia
The Caribbean.
Jose
And he didn't invite you after two days?
Julia
I know. And so he's like snapping me on the beach, and it's beautiful, nice. And then later that day after that, he stops all communication. And now I've been texting him and sending him pictures or whatever, and he's not answering me. It's been two weeks.
Brooke
Two weeks. I was gonna say he got busy on his vacation. I was gonna say. Yeah, he was on a beach with a phone. Very dangerous place to be at a beach. A lot of water, sand, who knows?
Jose
I'm looking up shark attacks in the Caribbean just to be sure.
Brooke
That's kind of weird.
Julia
Yeah. I'm thinking. I hate to think this way, but I'm thinking that maybe he met someone on this trip and then he's like, not texting or he. I mean, like you just said, did he get eaten by a shark?
Brooke
We actually call him and he's in the shark's belly.
Julia
I'm just confused because, like, if it's not that, I'm really confused because I don't normally click with people like that and I feel like he felt the same way.
Brooke
Yeah, he was giving you all the right signs. I mean, I think you have every reason to get an explanation from him.
Jose
You were returning the equal amount of, like, snaps back to him, Right? It wasn't all one sided.
Julia
No, not at all. It was half and half.
Jose
Okay, this is odd.
Brooke
I trust pie girl, okay?
Jose
It's Ms. Crustworthy.
Brooke
Brooke.
Jose
Let's say the name right? We're gonna. We're gonna do right by Ms. Crustworthy.
Jeffrey
When we don't know.
Brooke
That name makes her sound so old.
Julia
Sound.
Brooke
Really?
Jeffrey
I told you guys, she's like, hip.
Jose
Think old when I hear that Ms. Crust Worthy. Laugh if you like it. Oh, God.
Brooke
Thank.
Jose
It was a delayed laugh. So I'm taking it. We're going to come back, we're going to call this guy Ben and figure out what's his deal. Why isn't he getting back to you after two whole weeks?
Julia
Thank you. Like, help me reach out to him.
Jose
All right, we'll see if he picks up when we do your second date update right after this. Hold on. Second date update. We have our theories for why Ben isn't calling back our listener, Julia.
Julia
That's why you're playing this song.
Jose
After he went to the Caribbean two weeks ago. Theory number one, Baby shark and his shark family had a little Ben flavored feast right off the coast.
Brooke
So I should not laugh.
Jeffrey
We're laughing because we know it's likely not a shark, guys.
Jose
Wow. That's my number one theory. Theory number two, Ben dropped his phone in the ocean after too many breakfast margaritas. Or theory number three. The one Julia's most worried about is Ben met another woman while on one of the islands there.
Jeffrey
Why wouldn't you just say, like, I'm so sorry. I know we went on a couple dates. I've met someone. It was fun.
Brooke
Like, it feels bad for Julie to root for shark in this one.
Jose
I think we're all praying for shark because nobody wants number three. Yeah, right, Julia.
Julia
I definitely don't want to be rooting for sharks, but I kind of am.
Jeffrey
I will say getting eaten by a shark is like the coolest way to be.
Brooke
Maybe the shark took his phone and that's it. You know, it just never be all bad. The shark can't text back. Yeah, it's got fins.
Jose
It is rude.
Jeffrey
He's got sonar built in. He doesn't need that phone.
Jose
Let's at least dial Ben's phone and see if somebody, a water creature or Ben himself, picks up. We're gonna get to the bottom.
Jeffrey
I think a jellyfish just answered.
Jose
Hello? We're gonna find out. Here we go.
Brooke
So dumb.
Jose
And we just dropped another five. Podcast. Okay, here we go.
Ben
Hello?
Brooke
Oh, okay. That's a man.
Jose
Is this Ben?
Ben
Oh, yeah. Who's this?
Brooke
Oh, hey, Ben.
Jeffrey
What's up?
Jose
We are. We're a radio show.
Jeffrey
Hi, good morning.
Jose
We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Ben
Huh.
Brooke
Looking for recommendations on the Caribbean? No. Anybody? That was smooth.
Jeffrey
He's still confused.
Ben
What is this? Like, did I win, like a concert or something?
Brooke
Oh, that'd be cool.
Jose
No, we haven't done something like that in a long time. We're. We're doing a segment here called a second date update where we're trying to help one of our listeners get in touch with you because you two hung out a while ago and apparently had a really good time together. Her name's Julia. Oh, remember you guys went to like.
Brooke
Yeah, yes.
Ben
No, I know, I know, I know.
Brooke
Okay.
Jose
You know.
Brooke
Yeah, apparently you guys went to a couple happy Hours and.
Ben
Yeah, yeah, no, we had. We had a really good time. I've just been out of town, so.
Jeffrey
Caribbean, right?
Brooke
Yeah, she said you were snapping her, so.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Ben
Yes. Yeah, no, I've been in the Caribbean some, but I'm back, so.
Jeffrey
Oh, I was gonna say hard to leave.
Julia
I bet you're not busy traveling.
Jose
Yeah, no wonder you don't sound very relaxed right now. So. Okay, makes sense.
Brooke
Why are you getting back to her? That's just, you know, it sounds like you kind of dropped off.
Ben
No, I'm gonna, I'm gonna reach out to her. I've just, you know, it's just been crazy. Like my life's just been crazy lately.
Jeffrey
Like the beaded dreads on the beach and now you're like, kind of like embarrassed that she's gonna see them because you look really cool.
Ben
Yeah, that's it.
Jose
Yeah.
Ben
I have cornrows now. No, easy.
Jeffrey
I knew it. Easy answer.
Brooke
Guys, what's been so crazy?
Ben
Well, I. I just, you know, like, I've just been busy traveling to and from and like work's been really busy. I just like. Yeah, everything's just, you know, Julia.
Jose
Julia mentioned that you had a lot going on in your life even when you two were hanging out, that you had to like squeeze in happy hour stuff. But it sounds like you're saying you are still interested.
Ben
Yeah.
Jose
Well, that's good because she, like, when we talked to her, she was worried that it was just like a one or two night thing.
Brooke
But you haven't touched. I have a hot tip. If you're interested in a girl, maybe text her. Yeah, within two weeks.
Julia
Two weeks?
Brooke
It's been two weeks since you've. She's gonna fall off.
Ben
Yeah, you know what? You're right. I should have. Please.
Jose
You.
Ben
You guys have her contact or whatever, right? Or she got in contact with you.
Jose
Yeah.
Ben
You just tell her that I'm sorry.
Jeffrey
Why can't you tell her?
Jose
Honestly, you can do.
Julia
Hey, I thought I did this to you. I thought you met somebody else because like two weeks is a long time.
Jose
Hey, Julia. So we didn't tell you that. Julia has been listening to this conversation. So. Yeah, there you go. You can say so yourself directly to her.
Jeffrey
Hey.
Ben
Oh, hey. Hi.
Julia
Hi.
Ben
I don't. I'm sorry. I don't really. I don't know what to say this little. I don't know.
Julia
Did you meet somebody?
Brooke
Whoa, whoa.
Ben
No, but I didn't meet anyone new. I'm just. I've just been like, busy, you know.
Julia
It's just good to hear you from. I'm just like. It's been way too long I haven't heard from you. And I'm just like so relieved now because like, I felt like this instant chemistry. And I don't normally feel that with everyone.
Jose
Oh, that's nice.
Ben
Yeah. No, I mean, I genuinely don't either. I've just like. I know everybody always says this, but like, I've just been caught up and I just got so busy and distracted. But like, I absolutely, Like, I do want to hang out.
Jose
Okay, well, this is. This is awesome. Like, this is. This is way easier than these normally go. Because we will actually pay for your guys next date if you both officially go. Give us the. Yes. Yes.
Ben
Yeah, I'm totally excited.
Brooke
Awesome.
Ben
But just quick FYI, Julia, like, I am technically married. So I just. I hope that's.
Brooke
Married.
Ben
The Edwin. Yeah.
Julia
What?
Ben
I'm technically married.
Brooke
Technically. What does technically mean? You're either married or you're not married.
Julia
What? I'm so. I'm just a. What?
Jeffrey
Yeah, you got it.
Jose
Wait, you got to explain to us.
Brooke
Was the Caribbean wedding or the honeymoon?
Jose
Did you get married there?
Ben
No, no, no. Nothing crazy like that. It was our like five year anniversary.
Brooke
Hold up. Are you in like an open relationship? Does your wife know this stuff?
Ben
Well, no. I mean, not technically, no. Like, I don't know, everybody's doing this nowadays.
Brooke
No, that's cheating. Yeah, they tell you what you're doing is cheating.
Jose
Brooke, did you not hear? Everybody is doing this now. He's one of the cool married.
Brooke
Why did he take photos of her with his friends?
Jose
Yeah, we. We heard that. Ben, you and your friends got together and you were taking pictures with Julia.
Jeffrey
You wouldn't do that for a fling.
Brooke
Yeah, but then you would just claim that it's your buddy's wife or girlfriend or whatever. Because if he wasn't in the picture with her.
Ben
My wife doesn't know.
Brooke
Dude, how is no one else, like, totally angry right now?
Julia
I mean, Ben, I. I can't believe.
Ben
You did this to me.
Julia
You should have told me this right away.
Ben
Oh, well, I know. It's just like kind of an uncomfortable thing to bring up front.
Julia
It's uncomfortable, but you. But you should bring it up right away.
Jose
It's a fair point.
Ben
Well, it's an uncomfortable thing to bring up front. They can laugh all they want, but it's a weird thing to bring up. And so it's better to do it a little down the road, you know?
Jose
Yeah. Like this does soften the blow just a little bit.
Jeffrey
What the heck?
Brooke
This is terrible.
Julia
Ben, this is not gonna work.
Ben
Well, hold on, hold on. How about we just go out once and then you decide after?
Brooke
No, you have to tell his wife. You have to out. You have to let her know. You got to find her. Maybe she'll listen to this. Yes.
Julia
Yeah, yeah.
Ben
No, that's already happened. It's fine. Like, it's happened a couple of times where like girls will contact her or whatever. She always believes me, so it's fine.
Brooke
Like, that is the grossest response.
Jose
Well, that's a woman that's willing to believe whatever her man says. And that's something that's rare in this world for a reason.
Jeffrey
For a reason.
Jose
J.
Brooke
Not rare, unfortunately.
Jose
I didn't say it was a good thing. I'm just saying it's rare.
Jeffrey
Unfortunately. I have seen things like this where people just don't care and they do it openly.
Jose
According to Ben, a lot of married couples are doing this and it's the new norm.
Jeffrey
Do we feel bad, Jeff, because, like, we're involved now. Like, I don't want us to solicitate cheating.
Brooke
We're not. We're not asking them to go on a date now that we know he's married.
Jose
We already asked and they already both said yes. So I don't know where to.
Brooke
There's take backs. Jeff. We're not giving you a gift card, Ben. You don't deserve a gift card.
Jose
Yeah, we're giving it to your wife.
Brooke
Yeah, I actually like that.
Jeffrey
Yeah, we're just gonna take him to dinner, guys.
Brooke
What are we doing?
Julia
We're rewarding.
Jose
He's gonna feel guilty the whole time.
Brooke
Poor Julia. That's who I feel, the Julia.
Jose
You doing okay?
Julia
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna be fine. I just gotta keep dating.
Jeffrey
It's just an easy answer, right? Like he's married is a very easy thing to walk away from.
Brooke
Can you believe now you have to ask dudes before you go on a date with them if they're married or not? Like, what a ridiculous question you have to ask.
Jeffrey
Do you have a girlfriend and Then have a follow up. Do you also have a wife?
Jose
Wait, wait, guys.
Ben
They're not going to tell you the first time.
Brooke
Wait for a couple of minutes. Thanks for that hot tip.
Jose
That's good advice, actually.
Brooke
Yes, Ben sucks. Hang up on Ben.
Jose
Ben, I gotta say, you are the most up, upstanding, sucky person that we've ever had on the show.
Ben
Thank you.
Jose
He gave some good advice. Don't believe men was his advice.
Jeffrey
I hope no one learned anything from that.
Jose
Yeah, I certainly didn't. Brook and Jeffrey in the morning. Okay. Wow. Big emotional response in the studio from that one for sure.
Brooke
How could you not have an emotional response to that?
Jose
Well, the guy kept insisting it's more normal now for married people to date outside of their relationships.
Brooke
Here's what a cheater says, Jeff. His wife doesn't even know that he's doing it. Yeah, sure. Different if they had an agreement or something.
Jose
I had to look it up though, to see if he was right. And According to a 2023 study, marriage infidelity rates are on the rise.
Brooke
Okay.
Jose
And the percentage of married people who cheat right now is somewhere between 71% and 11% and 11. So science has to leave a little bit of margin of error there.
Brooke
But that is the dumbest study. You found a really good website. And what are you gonna do? Even if the science came back and proved it, that means he was doing the right thing.
Jose
Get out of here. Well, that he's just part of the status quo. The thing is, we do know each person who answered yes, they are cheating. Said, it's cool, Everybody's doing it.
Brooke
Yeah, so that's 100 true.
Jose
It's the new 1980s marijuana. It's cool, man. Everybody's doing it, bro. So at the end, I guess he's still a bad guy.
Brooke
But what do you mean you guessed? Why are you so good?
Jose
I don't want to offend 71 to 11% of the population, Brooke. I'm not sure where people lie.
Jeffrey
Awesome. Cheater just texted in.
Brooke
Excuse me. Uh oh.
Jose
Oh great. We lost the cheating demo.
Jeffrey
Darn it.
Jose
Darn it.
Brooke
I am an upstanding cheating.
Jose
But text in to 78592. Tell us what you thought about the second date update.
Jeffrey
It was great.
Jose
We loved it. And if you need help with your dating life, married or single, we'll try and help you out. We'll call that person. Hopefully single. We'll call that person who's not calling you back.
