Jose
Hey, you found the Second Date podcast. Thank you so much.
Brooke
I found it, too, finally. It's pretty easy, actually.
Jose
Thanks for being here, Jose.
Brooke
You're welcome.
Jose
I love it. I love it. And hey, just a reminder. If you want to endure or punish yourself for 45 more minutes, we've got a full show, whole hour long. I dare you to try it at the Brooke and Jeffrey feed. But for now, we'll get into some questionable relationship advice.
Advertiser
Second date update.
Jeff
Well, this happens every once in a while, but sometimes before a call, I need to warn my co hosts. Please do not get too excited, okay? Do not make any sensual sounds. Don't pretext your husbands that you're not coming home today. Cause we have a guy on the phone for a second date with an accent.
Jose
Oh, Brooke, put the phone down.
Jeff
Put the phone down.
Jose
I just need to tell him.
Jeff
No, phone away.
Jose
I'm just gonna be just 15.
Jeff
She sees a type divorce. We're gonna be home on time, just late. Our listener's name is Charles.
Jose
Okay.
Jeff
And Charles, now that my co hosts are braced for it, let's hear your voice.
Charles
Hello.
Jeff
Oh, my God. Mashers and bang.
Brooke
I'm more worried about Alexis. She loves British.
Jose
Yeah, she does. I'm speechless over here. Oh.
Jeff
All he said was hello.
Jose
Yeah, that's all it takes.
Jeff
All right, so welcome to the show, Charles. And I'm apologizing ahead of time here, but.
Charles
It'S totally okay. I mean, I get it all the time here.
Jose
Honestly, it must be hard, life that you live.
Brooke
Yeah, no wonder you moved here before.
Jeff
We get into your day. Charles, your email says that you travel around a bit, so apparently it doesn't make it easy for you to meet people. Is that right?
Charles
Honestly, it's very difficult because, you know, six months of the year I'm over here, and then six months I'm back home in England, and it really makes it hard to make any kind of real connection.
Jose
Yeah, that would be hard. I mean, in either place, because, like, what are you gonna do? Like, hang out with somebody for a couple months and be like, oh, we're gonna do long distance for six months? That sounds terrible.
Jeff
That sounds kind of nice on and off. But, you know, if it's hard to meet people, Charles, how did you meet the person that you want Us to call today.
Charles
So I actually met her through a friend, and my friend was like, listen, I have this friend who's recently single, and, you know, I was a bit skeptical.
Jose
Wait, you met her?
Brooke
You.
Jose
You met her here or you met her back in England? I'm sorry. Because we can't make international calls. Our station doesn't have the budget for that.
Brooke
We literally don't have the money.
Charles
Yeah, no, it's here. It's all right.
Jose
And so you were kind of hesitant. You said, I mean, who wouldn't be.
Charles
You know, recently single? That normally sets off the alarm bells, doesn't it?
Jose
Yeah.
Brooke
Okay. You're the rebound.
Charles
Yeah. So let's just say that once she started showing me pictures on her phone, those apprehensions kind of went away.
Jose
Okay, so she was hot enough that you were willing to be her rebound if you.
Charles
Well, wouldn't you put it that way? But, yeah.
Jeff
Okay, can we attach a name to this person that you saw?
Charles
Yeah, her name's Melanie.
Jose
Melanie.
Melanie
Melanie.
Jose
Okay. So did you ask her out?
Charles
So it was kind of like a mutual thing. We decided to meet up at the local pub.
Jose
We call that a bar around here.
Brooke
Everything's better with an accent. That's a classy meetup.
Charles
So we went to the pub, we had a few drinks. We got to know each other, having a nice little conversation.
Jose
What did you think about the chemistry between you two?
Charles
I mean, I thought went really well, to be honest, because as soon as she started talking to me, she was just like, oh, my God, I love your accent. Thank you so much. I never hear that.
Jose
That's funny. That was funny. What'd you guys connect over?
Charles
A little bit of everything, to be honest. I mean, we played darts. We played a bit of snooker.
Jeff
A bit of what?
Jose
Oh, is that. Is that like, a different type of pool game or something?
Charles
Snooker is the British version of pool.
Jeff
Oh, you played pool where you put him in your mouth?
Jose
No, that one. That's your version.
Jeff
Oh, hide the queue.
Jose
Yeah.
Jeff
You don't have to explain the rules to us, but that sounds like a good time.
Charles
At one point, she let me know that she's actually a model.
Brooke
Oh, bro.
Jose
A guy with an accent and a model? Are you kidding me? I'm curious. How did she drop that? I always wonder how people work that into a conversation.
Brooke
Was it in her bio, or was she really a model?
Jose
Maybe he never saw a bio because she. They were hooked up by friends.
Brooke
Yeah.
Charles
Okay, so no, she just kind of, you know, we're talking about what we do, and she Mentioned that she was a model. And so I think anyone would do this in this situation. I was like, oh, do you have any modeling pictures?
Brooke
And she just showed you her Instagram?
Charles
No. She actually pulled up these professional looking photo shoots all in a gallery.
Jeff
Sounds to me like Charles is getting a little randy.
Jose
Yeah, it sounds to me like I can see why she turned down a guy with an accent. She has a lot of options. Yeah.
Jeff
How did things end that night?
Charles
After a few drinks and after a few laughs, I walked out to her car and, you know, I was kind of hoping for, you know, a little goodbye kiss.
Jeff
Little snob.
Jose
Snooker.
Brooke
Little snooker.
Charles
A little after hours game of snooker.
Brooke
Yeah, the Jeffrey version.
Jeff
And.
Charles
And I was shot down, shall we say? I got the side hug.
Jeff
Do you have any idea why she might have turned you down?
Charles
I mean, the only thing I can think of is that when she showed me her modeling pictures, I kind of. I'll be honest, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor, you know.
Jose
Oh, you may have, but that's. That's a flattering reaction. What she wants, like.
Charles
I would have thought so.
Jose
Maybe you just never gave her a compliment. Did you remember to pick your jaw up and like say something afterwards?
Charles
Oh, yeah. I mean, I let her know that she was absolutely gorgeous. Both in person. In fact, I even said she was Belle. Better in person.
Jose
Oh, that's cute.
Brooke
You should have said the D word. You are just dashing.
Jeff
Maybe it sounds better when he says it.
Brooke
Yeah, probably.
Jose
Yeah.
Jeff
Charles, say the word dashing.
Charles
Dashing.
Jeff
Oh, wow.
Jose
It is pretty good. Why is Jose's pants off? I don't know.
Jeff
We're gonna go to work for you, Charles.
Charles
Right here.
Jeff
We're gonna play a song, come back, and we're gonna call Melanie for you. And we're gonna figure out why she is not calling back the most charming British bloke we have ever spoken to on this show before.
Brooke
Indubitably.
Jeff
Thank you.
Charles
Thank you so much.
Jeff
Cheerio. We'll do it next. Second date update. Harry Styles, Jude Law, Ronald Weasley. What do they all have in common?
Jose
Tell us.
Jeff
Besides the fact Alexis has DM feet pics to all of them. They're all from England. But none of those blokes compare to the British charmer who reached out to us for help today with a second date named Charles.
Jose
Yeah, Charles. I haven't sent him pics yet.
Brooke
I thought Ron was from Hogwarts.
Jose
But they're in England.
Jeff
That's British.
Jose
Yeah, they're definitely in England.
Jeff
Oh, okay, now Charles spends time on both continents, but recently, he got set up with a woman over here. A model named Melanie.
Jose
Oh, man. Must be so hard to be you, Charles.
Jeff
Melanie is recently single.
Advertiser
Oh.
Jose
So she's so excited.
Jeff
And after their night out at the pub, Melanie is now acting like a royal B, which stands for boo, because she's ghosting him.
Brooke
Oh, I thought we meant the insect.
Jose
Is that what it stands for?
Jeff
In our book?
Jose
It does. Even in. What do you call it? Royal English. What do we call his English?
Charles
Queen's English, King's English.
Jeff
Yes.
Brooke
Thank you.
Jeff
And the whole point of this call is to try and reach out to the royal bee to see if we can reconnect them.
Brooke
Brooke.
Jeff
Okay, before we call Melanie, do you have any last thoughts or lewd comments that you would like to hurl at Charles?
Jose
I mean, Charles, you actually really liked Melanie, right? Not just because she was super hot. Like, you want a relationship.
Charles
Yeah. I mean, she. She seemed like an absolutely loose.
Jeff
She's calling you a loose man, Charles.
Brooke
Oh, wow. Our Charles would never.
Jose
I would. Trust me. I do not look down on the loose part of anything. I don't know. I'm kind of excited for you. I think that you can get this back.
Charles
I mean, I really hope so, because it is really difficult to meet people, if I'm honest.
Jose
Right. Especially hot models. Difficult for anyone to meet.
Charles
Yeah, that too.
Jose
Yes.
Jeff
I'm a little bit intimidated to call her, but we're gonna do it. I'm nervous.
Jose
That's cute, honey.
Jeff
But here we go. I'm gonna dial Melanie, and we're gonna get your second date update right now.
Melanie
Hello?
Jose
It's in her voice.
Jeff
This is going to be a tough one.
Jose
Yeah.
Jeff
Hey, is this Melanie?
Melanie
Yes, this is she.
Brooke
You can do this, Jeff.
Advertiser
Yeah.
Jose
Here we go. You got it.
Jeff
Hey, Melanie, what's up? No, we're calling from a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Melanie
I feel like there's a lot of people there.
Jeff
Hi. We have a whole show here. I'm Jeff. There's everybody else.
Advertiser
Yeah.
Brooke
They'Re not important, but I got you.
Jeff
Jay, the whole thing is we're calling on behalf of one of our listeners who went on a date with you recently, and you're not talking to him afterwards, and he doesn't really know why.
Melanie
I feel bad. Can you specifically say the person's name?
Jeff
Does that mean you're going out with a lot of guys right now?
Jose
Of course she is. We know that you just got out of a relationship. You were set up by your friend.
Melanie
Oh, the British guy. Okay, yes.
Jeff
Charles is the one that's trying to get ahold of you, but apparently you're not talking to him anymore and he doesn't understand why.
Melanie
I mean, I was a little disappointed in our date. I felt.
Jose
Oh, you were a little misled?
Melanie
Yeah.
Jose
Uh. Oh, was he not, like, as cute as you thought he was going to be or something?
Melanie
I mean, I was told that he was a professional athlete, so I was thinking.
Brooke
Wait, what?
Melanie
Yeah.
Jeff
You were told that he was a what?
Melanie
A professional athlete.
Jose
Oh, we never asked him.
Brooke
Tell us that.
Jose
Well, I'm. Is he not? Because we never asked him if he was. I don't. We have no idea.
Brooke
And it makes sense. Six months in and out. It's a season.
Melanie
Well, I mean, I was assuming he played football. You know, soccer and tennis.
Brooke
Yeah, soccer.
Jeff
Okay.
Melanie
I mean, this guy's a professional dart player.
Jose
Dart?
Melanie
Yeah.
Jose
Is that a bad thing, though, when you say that it's bad for him to be a professional dart player?
Melanie
I just expected someone tall and athletic and not like a normal guy that plays darts at a bar. I don't know.
Brooke
That's a burn.
Melanie
I just feel like if it's not in the Olympics, it's not a sport. I don't know.
Brooke
Wait a minute. So he wasn't like, chiseled with a six pack?
Jose
I mean, so that was a disappointment to you?
Melanie
I mean, definitely.
Jose
And you couldn't get over it?
Melanie
Like, as much as I really, really like Tom Holland, I just wasn't expecting Tom Holland.
Brooke
He's like an average looking guy.
Jose
But Zendaya loves Tom Holland and look how awesome she is. Zendaya. Zendaya. Yes.
Jeff
You can try and sound young all you want.
Jose
Brooke. No, I'm just saying, Melanie, like, you could be that cute couple. You could be her. The Zendaya. Zendaya. Zendaya. Zendaya to the Tom Holland.
Jeff
Okay, let's get off of Tom Holland and Zendaya and let's focus on guys. Who cares?
Jose
I'm trying to sell him.
Jeff
Well, now's the perfect chance to have that conversation with him because Charles is actually on the other line listening right now and wants to talk to you.
Melanie
Oh, gosh, Tom Holland's here.
Jose
What's up?
Jeff
Charles, you there?
Charles
Hi, Melanie. Hello.
Melanie
Hi. A little awkward.
Charles
I have to just correct you on something. I am a professional athlete. Where I'm from, darts is. It's renowned. It takes focus, it takes dexterity, it takes athleticism. You have to be a top tier human being to be this good at darts.
Jose
How good are you?
Brooke
Strong fingers.
Charles
I mean, I'm the top player in.
Jose
All of England, dude. So, like, people in England know your name?
Charles
I get stopped in the street when I walk through London.
Brooke
Wow, Brooke, that's the people on SportsCenter. Like, they're huge in England. But then they come out here, no one knows who the heck they are.
Jeff
Melanie, does that make up for his lack of biceps and abs?
Melanie
I mean, I never said anything about his biceps or abs.
Jeff
Right, because they weren't there. But he sounds like everybody knows him, that he's a pretty big deal over in England.
Charles
You mentioned that darts isn't on the Olympics. Not yet.
Jose
Okay, okay.
Charles
There's a whole movement there. But that's not the point. Over here, I am dominating the competition.
Jeff
Oh, I bet soon he's going to be posing, like, half naked in a Calvin Klein ad. I'm sure.
Melanie
Well, just not what Van's called.
Charles
Yeah, it just doesn't sound like you. Believe me, Melanie and I make a lot of money.
Jose
So, Charles, you are upset that she. It just sounds like you're trying to prove to her that you are of the caliber that she was expecting. Like, you're not insulted that she may be looking for more surface things?
Charles
Well, I didn't question her about being a model. I didn't say, hey, you're a model. Get up there on the catwalk, give us a 12 face value. I'm saying here, you know, I am an athlete. Maybe not the one she envisioned, but I don't need to prove myself to have to have my profession just kind of pushed aside. You know, it's a little insulting.
Jose
Okay, does it sound a little bit.
Jeff
Like Tiny Tim wants another bowl of porridge?
Brooke
What? Jeffrey, that was so random.
Melanie
I don't even know what that means.
Brooke
But of course, you know, you're a model.
Melanie
I do feel bad that he feels disrespected. So, okay, I do apologize. But my picture of a professional athlete is definitely different than, you know, what you are as a dart player.
Charles
Well, sometimes the best things in life come in a small package.
Jose
Wow.
Jeff
Wait a minute.
Brooke
Are you admitting something?
Jeff
Yeah, that's not a great phrase to say over here, Charles.
Charles
I had a lot of fun, Melanie. And to be honest, I kind of want to continue that.
Brooke
Kind of continue the fun.
Jeff
Well, you can continue it on our bill because we will pay for the next date. You guys go on if you both agree.
Melanie
Melanie, if someone's going to try this hard to get my attention by calling the radio to call me, I got to give You a second chance. Although, if he is a professional athlete, I think maybe he should be able to pay for the date, right?
Jose
I thought you didn't care about the money. I mean, even rich people like free things, I think.
Melanie
Oh, I mean, I shouldn't have to do that if he says he makes so much money.
Jeff
Yeah, but he probably doesn't have a gift card to the Cheesecake Factory. We'll toss one in there.
Charles
I don't think I know about the Cheesecake Factory. Is that something I should. Is that something I should look into?
Jeff
Charles, that's gonna blow your frickin knickers off.
Jose
Dude, that is a cultural awakening. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Jeff
Man. After that, I think we all deserve to get knighted.
Jose
Is that what happens when you help an English person? Alexis, you know I've never been knighted. So you've only been dumped by an English.
Jeff
I'm just waiting now for a call from Buckingham palace for telling this British guy about the Cheesecake Factory. You know, the second he goes in there, he's going to eat a few slices and immediately lose his accent. Yeah, he's going to blame us for it.
Brooke
Wait a minute. It's cherry pie.
Jose
I love this one.
Brooke
Oh man, I'm.
Jeff
I'm still impressed with us.
Jose
I don't know, I. I can't believe he wasn't more upset with her. Dudes are so shallow too. He was totally fine that she only wanted him for his money.
Brooke
Yeah, I was gonna say it's still fishy to me that once he mentioned, well, I'm the number one player in England. I make a bunch of money.
Jose
They both travel a lot, they'll probably cheat on each other. I mean, they both know what they're getting into.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah, Alexis would know.
Jeff
But I'm still impressed. I'm taking it as a win. We hooked up a British person and a really beautiful person person.
Jose
They always need help. Yeah, very hard to find love for them.
Jeff
And if you need help right now, you can always email us. We'll call the person who isn't calling you back.
Jose
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Podcast Summary: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – "Models and Manchester"
Episode Information:
The episode kicks off with the hosts, Brooke, Jeffrey (Jeff), and Jose, welcoming listeners to "Second Date Update." They set the stage for the day's discussion, focusing on a listener named Charles whose first date with Melanie, a model from England, did not go as planned. The trio expresses enthusiasm and humor as they prepare to delve into Charles's experience and seek answers from Melanie herself.
[02:44] Jose: "Hey, you found the Second Date podcast. Thank you so much."
[02:47] Brooke: "I found it, too, finally. It's pretty easy, actually."
Charles reaches out to the show seeking advice after being ghosted by his date, Melanie. He explains that his nomadic lifestyle—spending six months in England and six months elsewhere—complicates his ability to form lasting connections. Despite these challenges, Charles met Melanie through a mutual friend and decided to give dating a chance.
The conversation unfolds as Charles recounts his date with Melanie at a local pub. They played darts and snooker, engaging in light-hearted activities that allowed them to get to know each other better. Charles felt a strong connection, particularly appreciating Melanie’s compliments on his British accent.
[06:13] Charles: "I thought went really well, to be honest, because as soon as she started talking to me, she was just like, oh, my God, I love your accent. Thank you so much. I never hear that."
The chemistry seemed promising, leading Charles to hope for a second date. However, Melanie's later lack of communication left him puzzled and seeking closure.
Brooke, Jeff, and Jose discuss possible reasons for Melanie's sudden withdrawal. They speculate whether Melanie was seeking someone more traditionally athletic or if there were other underlying issues. Charles mentions that Melanie revealed she was a model during their date, which initially intrigued him but later contributed to his confusion when she ceased contact.
[07:58] Charles: "I walked out to her car and, you know, I was kind of hoping for, you know, a little goodbye kiss… And I was shot down, shall we say? I got the side hug."
The hosts humorously dissect the situation, highlighting the cultural and personal differences that may have influenced Melanie's behavior.
Determined to uncover the truth, the hosts decide to call Melanie directly from the radio show. Jeff takes the lead, and after a brief, awkward exchange, Melanie explains her perspective.
[12:11] Brooke: "They’re not important, but I got you."
[12:36] Melanie: "Oh, the British guy. Okay, yes."
Melanie admits she was disappointed by the date, revealing that she had expectations of Charles being a professional athlete. Her assumption was based on information provided by their mutual friend. Upon meeting Charles, she found that his actual profession—a top professional dart player—didn't align with her preconceived notions of what an athlete should be.
[13:04] Jeff: "You were told that he was a what?"
[13:08] Jose: "Dart?"
[13:31] Melanie: "Darts is. It's renowned. It takes focus, it takes dexterity, it takes athleticism."
Melanie expresses that while she respects Charles's achievements in darts, they did not meet her initial expectations of athleticism. This misalignment led her to disengage after their first date.
The hosts engage in playful banter, teasing both Charles and Melanie about the situation. They joke about cultural differences, Charles’s profession, and Melanie’s expectations, bringing levity to the conversation.
[14:08] Jose: "But Zendaya loves Tom Holland and look how awesome she is. Zendaya. Zendaya. Yes."
[19:24] Brooke: "Yeah, yeah, Alexis would know."
Despite the humor, the hosts express genuine empathy for Charles’s predicament, acknowledging the difficulties of dating across cultural and professional expectations.
In an unexpected turn, Melanie shows willingness to give Charles a second chance after learning more about his true profession. She appreciates his dedication and suggests a renewed interest in continuing their relationship, albeit with humorous skepticism about his ability to meet her expectations.
[17:31] Jose: "I mean, Charles, you actually really liked Melanie, right? Not just because she was super hot. Like, you want a relationship."
[17:33] Jeff: "Well, you can continue it on our bill because we will pay for the next date. You guys go on if you both agree."
Melanie concurs, acknowledging that Charles's passion for darts and his genuine personality might be reconcilable with her initial impressions.
[17:55] Jose: "I thought you didn't care about the money. I mean, even rich people like free things, I think."
The episode concludes with the hosts celebrating the potential reconciliation between Charles and Melanie. They reflect on the nuances of first dates, the importance of clear communication, and the challenges of bridging cultural and personal expectations in relationships.
[19:37] Jeff: "And if you need help right now, you can always email us. We'll call the person who isn't calling you back."
Brooke and Jeff commend Charles for his sportsmanship and perseverance, reinforcing the show's mission to explore and resolve the mysteries of ghosting in modern dating.
Charles: "I thought went really well, to be honest, because as soon as she started talking to me, she was just like, oh, my God, I love your accent. Thank you so much. I never hear that." [06:13]
Melanie: "I feel bad. Can you specifically say the person's name?" [12:24]
Charles: "I am a professional athlete. Where I'm from, darts is. It's renowned. It takes focus, it takes dexterity, it takes athleticism." [14:57]
Melanie: "I do feel bad that he feels disrespected. So, okay, I do apologize. But my picture of a professional athlete is definitely different than, you know, what you are as a dart player." [17:01]
Jeff: "We're gonna play a song, come back, and we're gonna call Melanie for you. And we're gonna figure out why she is not calling back the most charming British bloke we have ever spoken to on this show before." [09:07]
Final Thoughts: This episode of "Second Date Update" masterfully blends humor with heartfelt discussions about the complexities of modern dating. By directly involving both parties in the conversation, the hosts provide a unique platform for resolving misunderstandings and fostering connections. Charles and Melanie's story highlights the importance of transparency and the willingness to look beyond initial impressions in forging meaningful relationships.
