Okay, you're here for a brand new second date update today and we want to talk about we said on YouTube yesterday we put up a second date video of us.
Jose
We did.
Alexis
And I think you guys liked it. You know, reading the comments.
Jose
Is it mixed reviews?
Alexis
Well, I know seeing us can be a shocker. You know, like for example, Dominic Mark said after watching the YouTube video. Who is the swole guy? And the blonde woman on the Spotify cover. I assume Jeff from YouTube videos was bottom right. Brooke was the redhead. Jose was obvious. Yeah, but I don't know who swole that they're seeing.
Jose
It's gotta be me as well.
Jeffrey
Oh, I'm stupid.
Alexis
You're right.
Jose
It looks like I'm two people.
Alexis
Okay, that's the thing. I'm sorry I asked.
Jose
There's not fifth person in the room.
Alexis
I'm the stupid one.
Jeffrey
Ye.
Alexis
So anyways, all right, go watch live. You haven't already? And here's your brand new second date update right now.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Garnier/National Park Foundation Announcer
Second date update.
Brooke
We don't normally talk about this, but if you feel like you've made a connection on a first date, when should the second date be put down? Like in concrete?
Jeffrey
Oh, I think in the 24 hours following.
Discover Ad Announcer
Wait, wait.
Jose
I'm setting the date.
Brooke
I'm not saying when. You're trying to schedule it. When should it be locked in by? How long is too long to wait? Because our listener has been trying for almost a full week and now he's getting to the point where he thinks something must be off. Where maybe she's avoiding it on purpose.
Jeffrey
Yeah, you should have it locked in within 24 hours. That's what I'm saying.
Jose
Every day that passes after the date is less chance of you booking that second.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah. So maybe his confidence is starting to fade. His name is Alex. Alex, welcome to the show.
Alex
Thanks, guys.
Jeffrey
We probably didn't help your confidence right there. And did we, Alex?
Alex
No, not really. It's very strange, bro.
Jose
We're men. Are you being too subtle? Are you being direct and saying, I'd like to see you again?
Alex
No, no, no, I'm being direct.
Brooke
Interesting. Like you're showing up to her house, knocking on the door, being like, when can we go out?
Jose
Not that direct, please.
Alex
Yeah, yeah, not that direct. That's a good idea. Good.
Brooke
Somewhere in the middle is probably better. But maybe we need to learn more about your first date before we already start jumping to the second one. What's this girl's name, by the way?
Alex
Her name is Mia.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
How'd you guys meet?
Alex
We always start there, you know, on a dating app. Very typical.
Jeffrey
Okay, did you know that there was going to be something special about this date going in?
Alex
Yeah. I mean, we're both big baseball fans and love trying new restaurants, so I don't know, we just. It felt like a very easy to chat with her.
Jose
Baseball and food go Hand in hand. So, I mean, that's totally okay.
Jeffrey
So what'd you guys do on your date?
Alex
So we went to a restaurant. But I have to tell you, it was really interesting because I went to her apartment to pick her up.
Brooke
With her permission or without her permission?
Alex
Yeah, yeah, with her permission. And she told me on the way to the restaurant that she had memorized the whole menu.
Jeffrey
What? This sounds like going out with Jose.
Brooke
Yeah, I was gonna say, I like
Jose
to act like I'm looking, but I already picked what I wanted, like, two days ago. I know what I'm gonna eat.
Brooke
Everybody studies the menu to pick something out. But to memorize the who, that's the next level.
Alex
So I asked her, like, okay, so what's on page two? Four down.
Jose
That's smart.
Brooke
Okay. Quiz you.
Alex
Yeah. And she didn't know. Oh. Oh.
Jeffrey
She was joking. It was a joke. Okay. Canceled the date.
Jose
Right. Because she's a liar.
Alexis
This is better. This is better.
Alex
Well, you know, I think I took memorize a little literally.
Jose
Got it.
Brooke
Got it.
Jeffrey
She was basically saying, I'm excited for this.
Alex
Yeah, yeah. But she did tell me a few things she liked. And she was funny. She laughed a lot. You know, actually, when we were at the restaurant, she was laughing so much that it was, like, getting attention from other tables. Like, it was. Her laugh is like a machine gun. Like, it's like I can't even do an impression, but you can imagine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. That's it. That's it.
Brooke
Okay. Did you put your hand over her mouth and be like, you're embarrassing us now?
Alex
No, no. I mean, I like that she was comfortable.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Alexis
That's awesome.
Brooke
I mean, what were you two laughing about?
Alex
I mean, it was like, normal conversation. And it was just like, we would find little tidbits, little anecdotes that were funny, and that's what it was like.
Mia
You had to be there.
Alexis
Funny moments, maybe.
Mia
Oh. Oh.
Alex
I do remember one thing we were laughing about, and it's how dates end, because it's always, like, a little awkward.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Brooke
Yeah.
Alex
So I asked her, like, okay, what's the most awkward thing that happened to you? And she was like. One guy hugged her and then kissed the back of her neck.
Jeffrey
Ew.
Brooke
Yeah. A little neck nibble. What's wrong with that?
Jeffrey
I hope her hair was up, because that's.
Alex
Unless you. Yeah. I mean, just the visual when she was going into it, it made me crack up because it was hilarious.
Jeffrey
It sounds like she's a good storyteller, you know?
Mia
Yeah.
Jose
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Like I love people like that.
Jose
And also, remember, you're better than that guy. She's like, this is a horror story. So she's telling.
Alex
Yeah.
Jose
Confidence.
Jeffrey
I don't know. Did you go in for the neck as a joke at the end?
Alex
No. No, no, no, no.
Jose
Okay. Okay.
Alex
That would have been pretty funny, though. Maybe that's why I'm not getting.
Jose
Wait, but did you kiss. Did you kiss her on the mouth or on the cheek or on the hand or anything?
Alex
Yeah. So then I drove her back and I opened the door for her and it was kind of like, okay, what. What are we gonna do? Speaking of ends of dates. And then she gave me a really big kiss on the mouth, not the neck.
Alexis
That's so cute.
Jose
I don't understand why she wouldn't be calling you back then.
Alexis
I know.
Jeffrey
Why would it be a week since you've talked to her?
Alex
Yeah, I mean, it's been four to five days. And, like, she's not ghosting me.
Jeffrey
Oh, she's not? So what does she say when you say, hey, let's go out?
Alex
Like, hey, something came up. Can we push this stuff like that? Like, little generic.
Brooke
Okay, well, maybe after the kiss happened, you did something that was a little off putting.
Jeffrey
Like what?
Alex
I don't think so.
Brooke
Like, right after the kiss, did you, like, wipe your mouth and be like, ugh, I don't normally kiss on a first date.
Mia
Oh.
Jeffrey
And then sound.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Wow, Jeff.
Brooke
I agree. It would be horrible if he did that.
Alex
Yeah, that definitely didn't happen. I don't know why you bring that up.
Jeffrey
There's a lot of things Jeff brings up that we're not quite sure on.
Brooke
Yeah, I'm just brainstorming why she wouldn't be calling you back.
Jeffrey
Let's just call her instead. Less brainstorming from Jeff. I was just talking to her.
Brooke
I have 10 other possible things you could have done wrong after you kissed her if you wanted to.
Jeffrey
I'm gonna say yuck.
Brooke
Okay, well, then we're gonna move on. Fine. We will reach out to Mia for you and try and get you your second date update. Normal mouth kissing edition only, right after this. Hold on.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Garnier/National Park Foundation Announcer
Second date update.
Brooke
It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning, and we've been getting a peek into the of our listener, Alex.
Jeffrey
Oh, yes, we have.
Brooke
The most intriguing part of his date was a story about a different date that the girl had gone on where at the end of the night, this mystery guy, I'm assuming it's our technical director, Ashton went In for a two handed hug and ended up making out with the back of her neck. Oh yeah, I don't know what base that counts as. It might be caught like in a pickle between first and second. But it's a bold move, whatever it's called. Still, Alex claims that didn't happen with him and Mia. He got the full on tulip tango at the end of the night.
Jose
She kissed him.
Jeffrey
See, it's such a good sign when people share horror stories with the dating because that means you're not one of them.
Brooke
Yes, and the conversation was a plus. So why is he having such a difficult time locking down a second meetup? He has no idea. And he needs our help. Alex.
Alex
Oh, sorry. Yeah, thanks guys. I mean, I really appreciate it.
Jeffrey
Are you busy right now? Are you doing something else?
Alex
No, no, sorry. Sorry. That was just such a long. It was a long preamble. I'm very ready. Yeah, let's see what happens. Let's go.
Jose
Jeff works really hard on those preambles.
Alex
Okay, yeah, sorry, sorry. It was very well written.
Brooke
It was like an ethanol model. Thank you, Alex. I'm so much less inclined to help you now, but that's fine. It's okay. We'll dial this girl's number. We might even say nice things about you to her, depending on how it goes. But I'm just going to dial the number. Hopefully she picks up.
Mia
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Mia?
Mia
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Hi, Mia.
Alex
Hello.
Mia
Who's this?
Brooke
This is a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. You don't have to be scared of us. We're a pretty friendly group.
Mia
Yeah, just not a phone call I expect in the morning, that's all.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah, I can understand that. We do reach out of the blue. But we're trying to help out a listener that you went on a date with recently. A guy named Alex.
Mia
I'm sorry, what?
Jeffrey
Yeah, I guess your guys's date was like four or five days ago.
Brooke
He said because we do this thing called second date updates. I don't know if you're familiar with that, but if you go out on a date with someone and you're not getting a call back, listeners can email us and have us reach out on their behalf to figure out out if there's a reason why.
Mia
Oh, wow. That feels invasive.
Brooke
I think it's right.
Jeffrey
We're trying to be helpful. I mean, it's not a negative thing.
Mia
What's in it for me?
Jose
A day, possibly your friend.
Mia
I don't know, you pay for it or a gift card or Something.
Brooke
Well, don't even. Let's not even worry about.
Alexis
I like a woman who bargains.
Jeffrey
Right?
Mia
I mean, if everything's being aired for the public and my co workers, whoever's listening, I mean, I want something out of it.
Alex
Well, sure, we could.
Brooke
We'll get to that. Down road. But first, let's talk about Alex.
Jose
Yes.
Brooke
What'd you think of him?
Mia
He was nice. He was a really good guy. You know, he teased me a little bit because, you know, I like to go into a restaurant prepared.
Alex
Oh.
Jeffrey
He mentioned that you had made a joke that you had memorized the menu.
Mia
Yeah, well, yeah, I will look things up ahead of time. I want to make sure there's stuff there that I like.
Jose
Totally.
Brooke
Okay.
Jose
Everybody does that.
Brooke
We did hear a lot about the date from Alex, and we're wondering if maybe there was any part of it that you didn't like that might explain why you're not meeting up with him again.
Mia
No, no, he was really nice. It was fun. I just don't know where I am as far as being ready to get into a relationship again.
Jeffrey
Oh, my gosh.
Brooke
What specifically is holding you back from, like, at least just seeing him for one more date. Not jumping into a relationship, but just hanging out.
Mia
Okay, this is probably going to be too much information, but.
Jeffrey
Oh, I love too much information. Let's go.
Brooke
What do you want to share?
Mia
Well, you know, the last guy I dated, when he broke up with me, he said, I can't date you. You're a terrible kisser.
Jeffrey
Oh, how dare he?
Jose
Yeah, well, some people just don't have kissing chemistry. Yeah.
Mia
So I'm like, okay, well, maybe I just need practice, you know, like, work on technique, kiss like 30 different guys, and then just kind of go back and say, see, I actually can kiss.
Jeffrey
Wait, go back to your ex and kiss him after you've learned how to.
Mia
Yeah.
Alexis
No, no, don't give him the good.
Jeffrey
No, that guy sucks. We're not gonna do that.
Mia
Well, I'm gonna do it.
Jeffrey
No, no.
Alexis
This is not gonna give you the
Jeffrey
satisfaction that you think it will.
Brooke
Well, yeah. Why? Instead of going back into that situation, why not focus on Alex, who assumingly already thinks you are a good kisser?
Jeffrey
Yeah, he loved the kiss.
Mia
I mean, this is how messed up he put in my head. Like, the acts like, I. Before I even go in for a kiss, I will tell a bad kiss story just to kind of like, break the ice a bit.
Jeffrey
Oh, because you told that story about the back of the neck.
Brooke
Oh, that was a move he told you.
Mia
That.
Brooke
Yeah, yeah, we heard about a different date you went on where some guy kissed the back of your neck and you thought that was weird.
Jeffrey
Was that even true?
Mia
Wasn't exactly true. But it definitely helps break the ice for when I go in for a kiss later.
Jeffrey
Okay, yeah, but he's just a practice. That's the sad part.
Mia
Yeah, he shouldn't feel bad. I've been practicing with a lot of people.
Jeffrey
No, no, it's like you're using it.
Brooke
I'm sure he's gonna love to hear that. And he actually already has heard it because he's been listening to this phone call on the other line the entire time. Mia.
Alex
Oh, no.
Brooke
Yeah. Waiting to talk to you. So. Alex, are you there?
Alex
Yeah, hey, Mia. Yeah, I. I heard all of that.
Mia
No, I'm so sorry.
Alex
Okay, so I'm basically being used as like a practice dummy for kissing for you.
Mia
You. You were. And I guess that's why it's awkward, because I actually really liked you and I'm like, you're my favorite to practice on.
Jeffrey
Oh. Why would you go out on dates, Mia? Why not just go to a club and start making out with people on the dance floor? It is so easy to get guys to kiss you. I'm gonna tell you.
Jose
Yeah, yeah.
Mia
Oh, I've done that, too.
Jeffrey
Oh, God.
Alexis
Oh, she's got to get the whole experience.
Brooke
Oh, just anybody who's willing to kiss you and give you a little practice so that you can improve for your ex boyfriend.
Jeffrey
That sucks. That sucks for our guy, man.
Jose
Yeah, it does.
Mia
It doesn't suck for me. I'm in the teens already.
Brooke
Oh, Alex, does this change your mind that you're helping her improve?
Alex
I mean, look, this is a weird situation, but I do appreciate that people that you've kissed, I. You're putting me at number one.
Jeffrey
Well, you think it's a.
Mia
Well, I mean, it's not really ranking or a competition, but you're definitely in the top third.
Superhuman Podcast Narrator
Okay.
Brooke
I mean, is it possible that there's another way to get good at kissing where you don't have to lock lips with 40 strangers?
Mia
Yes.
Jeffrey
You just find someone where your chemistry matches. I mean, obviously you two had an amazing kiss. Like, he's calling. He's so excited to see you again. Like, this is working. The stuff with your exact. Didn't work. That's why.
Alex
Look, Mia, we had such a great time. Like, the kissing is only going to get better, so I'm sure I'll move up to first eventually.
Jeffrey
What? You're still compete.
Brooke
It's the competitive side of a guy. They have to be number one.
Mia
Which is definitely something my ex would say.
Jeffrey
What?
Jose
Oh, my.
Jeffrey
We are not over him, are we?
Alex
Not at all.
Mia
I'm teasing. I'm teasing. I'm teasing. Oh, no.
Jose
You do have a good sense of humor. We heard that.
Mia
You should try this. Go out, meet people, kiss different people. It's not as bad as these guys are making it sound. I mean, plenty of men have been kissing and telling for years.
Alex
Yeah, Mia, I'm familiar with the concept of dating. I understand that.
Mia
Well, I mean, yeah, we do that. Keep on kissing, keep on improving.
Alex
Wait, it seems like you don't think I'm a good kisser. And you know what? Frankly, you're not a very good kisser. I mean, you have a trauma from your ex.
Mia
Wow, you sound like my ex. You want to hang out.
Brooke
That's a healthy thing to say.
Alex
I think I'm done with this lady.
Brooke
I'm sorry that ruined it for you.
Jeffrey
I can't believe this. I can't believe we went this far for you to finally deny her.
Brooke
But after she lied about kissing the other people just to get you to kiss her.
Mia
But you can always get better. Ping me when you need it.
Alex
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
In fact, I'm gonna say there's a high probability of kissing in the forecast with a chance of hand play if two would agree to see each other again.
Jeffrey
He just said no?
Alex
Yeah.
Brooke
I mean, look, there's been a lot of new information and emotions that have come out during this call. And sure, he may have said some stuff in the heat of the moment like, no, I'm not interested, but when the dust settles, I bet you he's going to want to give her another chance. Especially after 30 seconds of him nonstop saying no. So, Alex, what do you think?
Alex
I mean, this is weirder than just a booty call.
Jose
Like, it's a lippy call.
Brooke
It's not weird if you don't think about it, though.
Jose
What do you eat on a kissing date?
Mia
Lots of garlic?
Alex
I'm gonna pass on that.
Brooke
Okay.
Alex
We're looking for different things.
Mia
Yeah, we are.
Alex
All right, well, she enjoyed kissing me. I don't care what she says now.
Jeffrey
That's right. You stick with that confidence.
Brooke
Yeah. Top third.
Jeffrey
All the dogs in the city just started barking.

Jose
If you're a guy, no.
Jeffrey
More.
Alex
More.
Jose
Yeah, easily more.

Brooke

Episode Title: Second Date Update: Practice Makes Perfect
Original Air Date: April 29, 2026
Host: Brooke, Jeffrey, Jose, Alexis
Featured Guests: Alex (listener), Mia (date)
This episode of Second Date Update revolves around Alex, a listener who seeks the show’s help after having a fun and seemingly successful first date with Mia but is struggling to secure a second date. The main twist: Mia is using dating to “practice” her kissing skills after an ex called her a “terrible kisser”—her goal being to improve and, perhaps, prove her ex wrong. The hosts investigate whether Alex’s confusion can be resolved and whether Mia’s honest—but unconventional—motivation for dating will lead to another meeting.

“The kissing is only going to get better, so I’m sure I’ll move up to first eventually.” – Alex (15:59)
“I mean, this is weirder than just a booty call.” – Alex (17:49)
“It’s a lippy call.” – Jose (17:51)
If you’re looking for an episode that mixes classic Second Date Update awkwardness with a fresh, genuine twist—and a side of very modern dating woes—this episode delivers. It’s a reminder that, sometimes, the best way to “get better” at dating is to leave your ex behind, and that real connections shouldn’t just be practice.
