You know, Alexis, we have so much in common. Do we? Yeah. Like, we're both blonde. Everybody always thinks that I'm the same age as you. Yeah, I don't know about everybody, but you know, okay, but honestly, we both love Stella Rosa wines. Yes. Seriously, it's essential for every gathering. You know, your go to for girls night or just to pair with dinner. Yes, I love having it on a movie night with my roommate. Or hey, if I bring it to family dinner, it looks like I contributed something. That's good. And with so many flavors, there's something for everyone. So don't wait. We're at number two in our countdown of the most listened to second date updates and today we're highlighting actually Brooke's specialty ugly homemade meal creations.
Brooke
You always rag. I am a good cook. Cook. I am inviting you all over for dinner this year. That's my 2025 resolution.
Erica
Yes. To punish everybody with a sauteed moret blue cheese fondue cooking.
Samantha
It's the tasting that goes fast.
Erica
Yeah. And it's the visual appeal. Needs some work. But listen to it in our number two second date update. It's called relationship recipe fail. Enjoy second date update. Nowadays, most people who are on Facebook use it to either stalk their exes to find out who they're dating now.
Brooke
Okay.
Erica
Purchase discount Chinese made products off the marketplace. Wait a minute. Or angrily scream their political beliefs in all caps while vowing to unfriend anyone who disagrees with them.
Samantha
This all everything that's happening in the.
Brooke
World, this all checks out, right? But this all checks out, Jeffrey.
Erica
Apparently there are some people who still use Facebook to find love.
Samantha
Are they also in that category?
Brooke
They're not in a senior center.
Erica
It could be. Cause that's what happened to one of our listeners, Eric. So, Eric, which extremist chat group did you meet your lady in?
Eric
We met on the comment sections of a Facebook group called gross food.
Brooke
Gross Food. I think that is the only thing left that's fun on Facebook are the funny groups. You can be part of that.
Erica
And the Brooke and Jeffrey Facebook page.
Samantha
It's a lot.
Brooke
True.
Erica
Which, yeah, you should go follow if you haven't already. But tell us, Eric, about the girl that you met. What's her name?
Eric
Samantha.
Brooke
Okay, Samantha, what's funny is that I wanted to ask first about the gross food that you both commented on.
Samantha
Yeah, actually I was thinking that.
Brooke
Okay, what was it?
Eric
Yeah, it was this chili burger and it just. It looked awful.
Samantha
Oh yeah. Sometimes chili is like a weird brownish.
Brooke
Not a real photograph friendly food. That is definitely for sure.
Erica
Actually, Eric sent us a picture of the.
Brooke
Oh, he did? Is that what he. Chili burger.
Erica
That got them talking. So here it is. I printed it out. It looks exactly.
Samantha
It's runny chili.
Erica
It looks like somebody took two buns and then reached into a porta potty, basically.
Brooke
Don't say that. I mean, it lives up to the gross food filter that you needed to post. Pretty disgusting.
Erica
How did you guys start talking about it?
Eric
She was like, is it bad that I want to put that in my face? And I was like, 20 bucks. Can I watch?
Brooke
You guys were meant for each other. Because after I saw that. Oh, wow, that's a visual.
Samantha
I still eat it. It just looks gross.
Brooke
So did you actually like, you actually parlayed that into a date?
Eric
Well, yeah, sort of. I mean, we started DM in for a while, and I really did want to hang out, but she told me that she doubted I could actually watch her eat it because live, like, 300 miles apart.
Brooke
Oh, right. I was going to say, like, what are the chances you're in the same city?
Erica
That's what video chat dates are for.
Brooke
Yeah, that's tr. Video chat. Eating this. Is that what you guys did?
Eric
No. So we stayed friends on Facebook for a few weeks and mostly just talk about food and getting to know each other and stuff. And I was finally like, hey, what if I fly you out over my way and we try to cook the chili burger together?
Samantha
Nice.
Erica
Oh, you're gonna cook that thing together?
Brooke
That's what you're thinking? I'm thinking she's gonna spend a whole weekend with a stranger that she met on Facebook.
Samantha
Well, she can get a hotel or he can get her a hotel.
Brooke
Right.
Erica
They also talked for a few weeks. He said before he made that, like.
Brooke
A lot of time with one person, but.
Eric
So she was kind of surprised, but she eventually said okay, and we chose the weekend to do it. Wow.
Brooke
So you guys spent a whole weekend together?
Eric
Yeah, kind of.
Brooke
What was it like when you picked her up at the airport?
Eric
Well, I offered, but she didn't want me to.
Brooke
Oh, you know what? She has some, like, savings. Is she just trying to get or she just trying to get a free weekend vacation?
Samantha
Did you Actually, I'm ubering into the hotel. I'll be fine.
Erica
Yeah, a lot of times we don't look our best as soon as we get off of an airplane. So maybe she needed some time to collect herself before the actual dates.
Samantha
That's a good point.
Brooke
So, I mean, when did you guys finally meet up?
Eric
She came over to my place and we had the same chemistry that we had online.
Erica
Nice.
Samantha
That's really important, dude.
Eric
Yeah. But then the disappointment started.
Erica
Oh, why?
Brooke
Who is disappointed? Both of you.
Eric
Both of us? Yeah. The recipe was just awful. So the one that we found said that you should bake the burger. Like, the raw meat and the chili and the cheese and everything together, all wrapped inside a tin foil.
Brooke
Oh, that sounds so mushy and disgusting.
Erica
No wonder it looks so awful in the picture.
Brooke
I mean, you're following recipes based on gross food pictures. Like, what are you expecting to get?
Samantha
This is the hilarious point, right? Like, let's recreate it.
Brooke
But why would you be disappointed?
Erica
Like, I get. I mean, how did that turn out?
Eric
I Mean, after an hour, it was a total mess. Horrible. And it just wasn't done. So I put it back in the oven and we tried cooking it some more and thought we'd eat it again later. But she said it was getting late and she should go back to her hotel.
Brooke
Okay. Wow.
Eric
But I was like, you know, you can stay over. It's all right if you want.
Brooke
Sounds romantic. What would you say? Talker? I mean, was there any chemistry between you two? Like you're watching a show. Nothing happened. There was no.
Eric
Yeah, it was good chemistry at the beginning of it. But, like, as the anticipation for this nightmare burger that we've been waiting for and talking about for weeks just rose. I just got nervous.
Erica
Wow. So the horrible food that you plan to make was so horrible that it actually ruined the day.
Eric
Yeah.
Brooke
Wow.
Samantha
I mean, how gross. Emotionally as well.
Erica
How did you end things that night?
Eric
Well, I got real nervous and I was like, you want to play a board game? So I started pulling some out and stuff. But she wasn't into it.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jose
Yeah.
Brooke
I mean, I don't want to fly to a new city to play board games inside. I feel like he should have taken her out at that point.
Erica
Yeah.
Brooke
Shown her around.
Samantha
Let's go to a real restaurant.
Brooke
Yeah.
Samantha
Let's get some good food.
Erica
I don't know. Playing Candyland with a stranger in his apartment could be kind of fun.
Brooke
That sounds like Facebook. Honestly, that's what I expect.
Erica
It's full circle.
Brooke
Yeah.
Samantha
He's like, you want to play Farmerville?
Erica
I don't know.
Brooke
So did you guys meet up the next day?
Eric
No, she took an early flight home and that was it.
Brooke
She even paid the change fee to make it happen. I know you're desperate to get out when that happens.
Erica
This looking kind of bleak at the moment, but we've started off with worse.
Brooke
Do you like her still?
Eric
Yeah, of course. I mean, that's why I reached out. I mean, I want another chance at something that isn't going to go terrible.
Samantha
Well, and you had chemistry the very beginning. Before you cooked, you said you felt the same chemistry. So there's something there. But you got to find it, bro.
Erica
We're going to help you find it. We're going to play a song. We'll come back, call Samantha for you and get your second date update right after this.
Eric
All right, awesome, thanks.
Erica
All right, hold on.
Jeffrey
Second date update.
Erica
How do two people hundreds of miles apart have a common bond? I'll tell you how.
Brooke
Sounds deep, Jeffrey.
Erica
It's through gross looking food. Because that's where they met on a Facebook group dedicated to ugly meals.
Brooke
Aww.
Erica
We're talking about Eric and Samantha. They both commented on the same chili burger, and sparks flew from there.
Brooke
It's gross sparks.
Erica
Isn't life amazing that people can connect that way now?
Samantha
Yeah, I actually do love that. Any type of food.
Brooke
I will continue to stay off Facebook. This didn't do it for you.
Samantha
You don't belong there.
Erica
Flash forward to their wedding. And it's like, I married this woman because we both commented on a burger that looks like it was found in an outhouse at Coachella. I love this woman.
Brooke
I mean, we.
Samantha
Chili burgers all over. Everyone's eating chili burgers.
Brooke
You guys are getting way ahead of yourself. We couldn't even get through one successful night after he paid for a plane ticket for.
Erica
You can focus on all the negative stuff, but I think life is pretty great.
Brooke
Oh, that's good, Jeff.
Samantha
Imagining their six tier chili cake.
Erica
It might not be that great because they did try to recreate the recipe that they saw online, which took so long that Samantha left and went back to her hotel and then rebooked her flight home for the next morning. What's your take on this type of messy love?
Brooke
Maybe she just wasn't as dedicated to gross food as you thought. You know, the foster. Yeah, I mean, I'm just saying, Eric, you hear that?
Erica
You're too good for her.
Brooke
Maybe she actually likes attractive food.
Eric
Yeah, I mean, we had a great conversation for like multiple weeks about it, so I think we're on the same page.
Samantha
Yeah, that's true. You guys.
Brooke
Just a long way for that still to be a thing though. Like the joke that should have ended.
Eric
Yeah.
Brooke
Did you connect over other things?
Eric
Yeah, I mean, we talked about a bunch of stuff over the phone and via text and stuff.
Erica
Yeah, Brooke, a bunch of stuff.
Samantha
Okay, Another group they're in.
Erica
Yeah, bunch of stuff. That's bro.
Brooke
A lot of hoarders in that group.
Erica
All right, now we're gonna ask her a bunch of stuff when we call Samantha and try and get the second date update for you. All right, Eric, here we go.
Eric
Yeah, definitely, please. And like, I know you guys normally do like gift cards or something, but if you could get her just a slayed out, that'd be great.
Brooke
Hey, let's slow it down. Eric, have you looked at a radio station's budget lately?
Samantha
Yeah, here's 300 Delta gift cards.
Erica
Yeah, we'll work on it. Okay, let's just dial her number and see what she has to say. Here we Go.
Caller
Hello?
Erica
Hey, is this Samantha?
Caller
Yeah.
Erica
Hey, Samantha, what's up? This is Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Oh, yeah.
Brooke
You may not listen. I don't know. I don't know if we're on in your city. Yeah, we're on in a lot of cities, Samantha.
Samantha
We're a radio show.
Brooke
Hi.
Caller
A radio show.
Samantha
Yeah.
Erica
Yeah. And we do a segment here called A Second Date Update. We're trying to help one of our listeners get in touch with you after you went. You went out really far for him. You flew 300 miles to hang out with him.
Caller
Eric called you?
Brooke
Yes.
Erica
Yes.
Brooke
He thinks you're fantastic.
Caller
That's so weird.
Brooke
Really?
Samantha
Why is that weird?
Brooke
I don't know. Like, it sounds like he went long ways to make sure that you could come visit him. He played for.
Erica
Well, technically, she went a long ways to visit him.
Brooke
But you guys had a big connection. Like, why would you say yes to an entire weekend with somebody if you didn't?
Caller
Oh, my God. This is, like, really awkward to talk about just generally. But, like, I don't even know if you guys are real people.
Erica
Like, you got us. We are robots.
Brooke
That was so dorky. I loved it.
Erica
That joke is so bad. Only a human could have possibly come up with that.
Brooke
Yeah, we're real.
Erica
We're real. And we're seriously trying to help out one of our listeners because he's really confused after your hangout. He does not know why you ran back to your hotel and then booked a flight home the next morning.
Caller
Yeah, I know, but, like, did Eric tell you the story?
Brooke
I don't know.
Erica
I mean, we heard about your guys are gonna make a chili burger at his apartment, and it was taking way longer than expected. Started to get late. He tried pulling out some board games, and you. You had to go. That's all we really know he feels.
Caller
Oh, I had to go because he kept asking me to stay the night. And that was the first time we met.
Brooke
Right. He said. He mentioned that he told you he.
Caller
Could stay, but he kept asking me, and I was like, eric, I don't know you. Like, this has been a nice date. And he was, like, pouting. He was, like, doing the guy thing of, like. Oh, but, like, you came out here. Like, I really like hanging out with you. All of that.
Brooke
Yeah. He was making you feel guilty about it.
Caller
Yeah. And I'm like, I don't even know you. Like, you almost like you invited me here under false pretenses.
Erica
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry.
Brooke
That's understandable.
Erica
We did not know that he made you feel that way. And honestly, I don't know if Eric realizes he made you feel that way either. But we can ask him right now because he's on the other line listening and wants to talk to you.
Eric
Yeah. Hey, I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I was just trying to be hospitable. And it's not like the fact that.
Caller
I wasn't like answering your tax offer should say something.
Eric
Oh.
Erica
All right, cool. All right, good phone call, everybody.
Brooke
It's hard. Eric. You're not a man of many words. Maybe you should have, like talked to her more. I mean, maybe that's why she felt uncomfortable. Because the only thing that was coming out of your mouth was that question over and over again.
Erica
Were you drinking that night? Maybe you forgot that you asked that question.
Eric
Yeah, I guess. I mean, I don't know. I don't think it's that rude to offer someone to not have to go drive their car rental car around a city they don't know.
Caller
Yeah, but I said that I didn't want to stay, so I'm actually really glad I got a hotel because what kind of position would that put me in, you know?
Brooke
Oh, you paid for your own hotel?
Caller
Yeah.
Eric
Okay, but I mean, I had a spare bedroom for you. I guess I didn't really go into the details about everything, but. Probably should have.
Caller
Yeah, no, I mean, I wouldn't even have done that. I don't know you. I'm like single, going into a new city that I don't know. And then like, it would have been different if we were like boyfriend, girlfriend, like officially dating, but we weren't. And this was just like a first time thing.
Eric
Okay, well. Well, do you want to be my girlfriend?
Erica
I don't think that was what she meant.
Brooke
I gotta say, although it is, it.
Erica
Is a good question. Would you have an answer for him? Samantha.
Brooke
What? No. Stop it.
Jose
Not like that.
Caller
I'm not going to do that over the radio.
Erica
Sorry, the radio move wasn't good. Maybe you should text her the question.
Brooke
I don't think that he was purposely trying to make you feel uncomfortable. But Eric, I do think if you're going to invite a woman into your city, you have to go the extra mile to make sure she feels safe and that she feels comfortable.
Samantha
Coming from someone who has offered and flown girls out to cities. Okay, you always make sure they know they have a hotel.
Brooke
No, absolutely not.
Samantha
You do your thing. All about communication.
Erica
Show them that gesture. Take the front door off of the hinge just so that they know you can get out whenever you want. It is wide open.
Brooke
I mean, Sam, maybe it just didn't cross his mind, you know, like guys don't have to think about that when they go into new cities to meet people.
Erica
Yeah.
Eric
Yeah. Well, I mean, I feel like I've just totally screwed the pooch on this one and there's no real recovery. But I mean, I'd still like to have a second chance.
Brooke
Was that a sorry I heard in there?
Erica
I heard something about pooch screwing. But let's call it. Let's call it.
Brooke
Sorry.
Caller
I'm sorry. No, this is just too weird. I feel like it doesn't make sense to like have strangers I've never met speaking for him.
Brooke
Yeah, I mean, it is one of those things. You got to go with your gut on this and that. That's what your gut telling you.
Erica
Well, I just don't want this potential relationship to go down in flames because so few people in this world actually bond over gross food.
Brooke
There's a whole page for it, Jeffrey. It seems like there's like hundreds of thousands.
Erica
Yeah, but how many of them actually fall in love?
Brooke
Yeah, that's none. Apparently they didn't either.
Erica
We wanted it to be one.
Brooke
Okay.
Eric
Yeah, I mean, I really wanted to try a meatball shake that I saw with her.
Caller
Eric, I think we're done here.
Erica
Well, hold on, Samantha, because we would offer to pay for that meatball shake on your second date.
Caller
I think I can afford to make a meatball shake on my own.
Erica
Did you know we were talking money bag? Samantha?
Brooke
That's a girl who makes her own meatballs, Jeffrey. All right.
Erica
Excuse me.
Jose
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Erica
Well, that may have been the most cringe worthy moment of the entire year.
Caller
It would have been different if we were like boyfriend, girlfriend, like officially dating. But we weren't and this was just like a first time thing.
Eric
Okay, well, do you want to be my girlfriend?
Brooke
Oh no. Why don't you have to play it? What if he's listening right now? He already had to live through it once.
Erica
He's the one who said it. Honestly. Thank God she said no to that. Cuz if that worked, I would have thrown my headphones down and been like, I'm done with this job. Is it really that easy?
Brooke
What happened to you all rooting for love? Easy love. You want hard love?
Erica
Honestly, he didn't even sound like he was into there for most of the call.
Brooke
Yeah, it doesn't sound like he's a guy who's like super passionate maybe about anything.
Samantha
Not be a romantic guy.
Erica
Yeah.
Brooke
I mean, I feel like he learned a lot from this. For example, not pressuring people to stay at his house when they don't want.
Samantha
To make people feel comfortable.
Brooke
Yeah.
Erica
I don't know if he actually learned that lesson.
Brooke
Yeah.
Samantha
His lessons, like next time, ask her to be my girlfriend.
Brooke
Yeah.
Samantha
Before I fly her out.
Erica
Yeah. But we can help you learn some important life lessons in your dating life.
Brooke
You just make fun of you afterwards.
Erica
Sure.
Brooke
We'll do it all.
Erica
Just email the show. We'll call the person who isn't calling you back.
Jose
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
