Brooke
Hey, it's your second date update podcast with Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. The home of the second date update. And it's brand new today. One of our listeners says his date had one very odd request shortly after they sat down for dinner. I'd love to hear if you'd agree to it like he did. Let us know in the comments. And I love our comments. We love our comment section.
Alexis
Yes, it's my favorite thing to look through. Seriously. I saw one from Macy Brown who said introducing me to this show was the best thing TikTok has ever done for me.
Jeffrey
Hey, all right.
Brooke
What a statement.
Alexis
TikTok does a lot for people. It that means a lot.
Brooke
We have so many people who have found us through viral TikToks. So however you got here, we're so happy you're here. And remember, if you do want some second date update merch. Merch for a cause is still going on. 100 of proceeds do go to charity. Great charity. So you can buy in the show links and show notes. Let's get this show started though right now.
Jeffrey
Second date update. There's certain professions out there that are just considered considered sexy.
Brooke
Oh.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Like who's not swiping right on a hot firefighter, right?
Brooke
Excuse me.
Nick
Oh, okay.
Brooke
I thought you want me to or something.
Jeffrey
I thought you were gonna say no.
Brooke
Or Spray me down with the hose.
Jeffrey
That's more like.
Becca
That's what Alexis is doing. But she turned her mic off.
Jeffrey
Exactly. Or a hunky doctor.
Becca
Yeah, that's the classic, right?
Jeffrey
Or a sultry child and family therapist.
Brooke
Okay, this is. Let me tell you my problem.
Jeffrey
Tell me how my childhood upbringing turned me bad.
Becca
Did you just say abandonment issues?
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah. And one of our listeners apparently couldn't resist the lure of a smoke show in a sexy uniform, so let's talk to him about it. His name is Nick. Nick, welcome to the show.
Nick
Hey, thanks for having me.
Brooke
Okay, uniform I'm getting. I am so curious about the profession here.
Becca
Is this like a milkman uniform?
Jeffrey
Well, who's this person that you met and what do they do?
Nick
Her name is Becca and she's a cop.
Brooke
Oh, she is a cop.
Jeffrey
Lady cop.
Becca
You cuff me or I cuff you?
Brooke
Lady cops are sexy. They are like, you know, their waist always looks so cinched. Like it looks good.
Jeffrey
Handcuffs ready to go.
Brooke
Honestly, just the power that they have.
Alexis
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Becca
They're always like, license and registration. And I'm like 5 foot 10 and single.
Jeffrey
I'm sure we're all telling you stuff you already know, right, Nick?
Nick
Exactly.
Brooke
Now, did you meet her while getting arrested or.
Nick
No, we met on the apps.
Brooke
Oh, you did?
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Okay. If you're a cop, do you share that on the app or is that.
Nick
A no, no, that was her picture.
Brooke
Oh, it was. Okay.
Nick
Of course I made a dumb joke. I said, are you a real cop or a stripper?
Jeffrey
Oh, kind of risky, but yikes.
Brooke
Did she like that?
Nick
No, she was like, haha. You're only the 10th person to say that. Yeah, I guess that was a pretty basic joke.
Jeffrey
Yikes. So you're already starting in the hole with her.
Brooke
Yeah, but she responded. Isn't that just half the battle Dating apps?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
How'd you turn it around?
Nick
She did have other pictures on there, and there was a picture of her having a cup of coffee at a cafe. And so I was like, oh, you like coffee?
Brooke
I thought for sure you were going to make a donut joke at that point.
Becca
I didn't even think of that opportunity.
Nick
That would have been.
Becca
No, no, you already took a jab. You're good, bro.
Jeffrey
What did you do with the coffee?
Nick
I just was like, oh, yeah, you know, Are you a coffee fan? And she basically got super fired up and was like, you know.
Becca
And then you asked her, what's your drink? Right. Like, that's what you have to ask.
Nick
I did. And then she started going off about how she had gone recently to her favorite coffee shop and they got her coffee order wrong. And she wasn't mad about it, but she was just mentioning. And I was like, oh, I'll put a bad Yelp review on their site for you.
Brooke
And that made her laugh. That's cute. This is a cute connection.
Jeffrey
Okay, so this is all the chat leading up to the date.
Nick
All the chat leading up to the date. And so I recovered, and I was like, well, let's hang out. Let's go out to dinner.
Jeffrey
Nice.
Brooke
How was that? Where did you guys. I mean, was it fancy or was it more casual?
Jeffrey
Was it coffee?
Nick
No, it wasn't coffee. It was. I would say it was, you know, mid. I didn't want to go, like, divey, but I also didn't want to go, like, high pressure, super expensive. So went to a place that felt comfortable. Great conversation. We talked a little bit about her working in law enforcement.
Jeffrey
Yeah. What is it like to go on a date with a real cop?
Nick
You know, she didn't come in the uniform. It was pretty chill.
Brooke
Did you expect her to come in at any point? No.
Nick
I don't know. Some people get off work and then they just come directly out. No, I wasn't expecting that, I guess.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
It would feel like a very powerful move, though, to sit in a booth right next to a cop and, like.
Brooke
I would think that somebody was with their parole officer.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Even then you cough as a bad boy at that point. Tell everybody in the restaurant.
Becca
So was she cool, though? Because, like, you're on a date with a cop. I would be nervous the whole time. Did you only have one drink?
Alexis
Can you mention, like, your tabs are expired? Follow you and get you.
Becca
That's a good point.
Jeffrey
How does it go?
Nick
That was on my mind. I was like, I can't tell any stories about my bad boy, early days, all that sort of stuff. But there was one point, you know, we didn't really stick to her working in law enforcement too long, but there was one point where she was like, hey, do you mind if we could switch seats so I can, like, face the door?
Brooke
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. People like that are in law enforcement, like, they always want to see in case they can never be caught by surprise. Yeah, I mean, that's what happens in the movies.
Becca
No, but that's smart, though.
Jeffrey
Or it's a good excuse for her to be like, when I need to escape from this date, know exactly where I need to run.
Brooke
I mean, either way.
Jeffrey
Yeah. So did you switch?
Nick
Yeah, I was down with making that happen. So we did. You know, she's a really smart person. We had really good conversation about lots of topics. I don't know why at this point she's not texting me back.
Becca
Well, how did you.
Jeffrey
How did the night end?
Nick
It ended with, like, a really nice hug. Let's do this again. I didn't go in for the kiss because it didn't feel like we were quite there, but there was definitely some chemistry. And when I said, let's do this again, there was no hesitation. No. Let me think about it. Let me look at my schedule. None of that stuff. I can tell. The brush off and like an actual let's do this again.
Brooke
Right?
Jeffrey
Yeah. You should have asked if you could hit the siren in her cop car and driven around the block real quick right along.
Brooke
Because, you know, she's ever stick. Never. No one's ever asked that before.
Alexis
I mean, who knows?
Brooke
Maybe she's on an undercover mission and that's why she hasn't gotten back to you, because she's not allowed.
Nick
Oh.
Jeffrey
So wait, Nick, question. Is she the one who suggested that you go have dinner at that particular restaurant?
Brooke
Wait a minute. And she had to watch the door? Jeff.
Nick
Yeah, I threw out a couple of options when we were chatting, and she selected that one.
Jeffrey
Oh, was it in, like, a really shady part of town for no reason.
Brooke
Whatsoever or a really nice part of town? Maybe it's a white collar crime. Oh, it could be like embezzlement or something.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God. We might actually help solve a crime by doing this second date.
Alexis
Probably not.
Brooke
Well, all right, Alexis, that's not fun.
Jeffrey
And you know how most cops are when you get them on the phone, they tell you everything.
Brooke
Oh, yeah.
Jeffrey
They're like an open book.
Brooke
Yeah. Those cops.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
I don't know that I've ever had that long of a conversation with an officer.
Jeffrey
Well, this is going to be a first in a lot of different ways for us.
Brooke
Hopefully they don't run a background check on the show.
Becca
Oh, yeah, we have Brooke Fleur with the cop.
Brooke
Don't. I've never gotten out of a table.
Jeffrey
This is going to be interesting. When we come back, call Becca and get you your second date update right after this second date update. Normally our show is getting cops called on us.
Brooke
Yeah, that's true.
Jeffrey
But today we're the ones calling up a cop.
Brooke
That's right.
Jeffrey
Tables have turned not to report an emergency, but to get answers for our friend Nick, who went out with a law enforcement officer named Becca the other night.
Becca
So do we just dial 911 and ask for Becca?
Brooke
Yeah, I think that's how it works.
Jeffrey
We actually have Becca's cell phone number, so it's probably easier to do that.
Becca
Probably more convenient.
Jeffrey
Thing is, Nick's not getting a call back after their romantic dinner. Is there a reason for it? Or was the whole dinner a front for a sting operation that she was running to bring down an Italian mob boss?
Brooke
I mean, honestly, that sounds like he's making a joke. But she sat facing the door, she picked the restaurant and now she's not calling him back.
Alexis
Good evidence, Brooke.
Brooke
Thanks, Alexis.
Jeffrey
Nick, did you realize when you reached out to us for help that this is where the call was going to go?
Nick
I like your imagination. I don't know if that's the case. I just. She's cute, she's smart, she's a great woman.
Jeffrey
At least that's what she wants you to think. Yeah.
Becca
Dude, sounds like she has a hit out on her. Yeah, her back was facing the. She knows that there's a hitman out there looking for her.
Jeffrey
Dude, it's possible. Or maybe there's a simple reason and you messed up in some way. Yeah, so let's figure it out. I'm going to dial her number.
Brooke
Both are going to be great options.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Whatever it is, we are here for the tea. So let's do it. I'm dialing it right now.
Officer Becca
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hi, we're looking to speak with Becca.
Officer Becca
Speaking.
Jeffrey
Hey, Becca, how you doing?
Becca
Officer Becca.
Brooke
I'm honestly kind of nervous.
Jeffrey
I don't know if we should really mention that it was a little late.
Officer Becca
Who is this?
Jeffrey
We're Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And you probably heard my co host say Officer Becca, because we heard that you're a cop. And I just want to ask you up front, is it okay for us to mention your profession on the radio?
Officer Becca
I'm okay with that.
Jeffrey
We're allowed to say that.
Brooke
Okay, well, she put it on her dating profile. He said.
Jeffrey
But on the radio, I mean, that's a different thing.
Brooke
You know, we're sleazier than a dating.
Jeffrey
Definitely.
Alexis
People probably see her profile than here.
Brooke
Yes, but we're joking back.
Jeffrey
Bottom line is we wanted to talk to you about a date you went on recently with a guy named Nick.
Becca
Yeah, that sigh was not good.
Jeffrey
So Nick reached out to us because he said he really enjoyed spending time with you that night and he's curious if there's a reason why you're not calling him back and arranging a second meetup.
Brooke
Honestly, I'd Say he's clueless. Like he really expected to see you again.
Officer Becca
Yeah. So obviously I work in law enforcement. I've been on the force for some time now, so I'm going to always look up who I'm going on a date with or who I'm spending time with.
Brooke
Don't you wish you had that type of access? Alexis, I know I only have my.
Alexis
Reverse Google image search.
Officer Becca
Yeah, I mean, but, like, I did this on my own time. I don't use, like, police scanners. I hired someone myself.
Brooke
Okay, you're just doing your own normal. Just. You're probably better at it than us.
Jeffrey
You got more resources than the average person.
Officer Becca
Yeah, I found some things that I thought he would be more forthcoming with, and when he wasn't, I. It turned me off. I have no more interest.
Brooke
Are you saying he lied to you.
Officer Becca
On the date he did kind of abstain from the truth. He wasn't forthcoming with information, which I feel is a lie.
Becca
You're dating a cop. You have to be honest. Especially if it's about.
Jeffrey
Hold on.
Becca
Can I ask, Was it like, a criminal thing? Right. That's the only thing you looked up, right?
Officer Becca
I don't know if it's appropriate for the radio.
Brooke
Okay, if it's, like, a record that is supposed to be private, then don't share it. But if it's something we could. Any of us could find on the Internet, spill away.
Jeffrey
Yeah. We honestly don't have standards, but we. The part. The thing that you don't. You might not realize, Becca, is that part of being on this segment is the person agrees to hear whatever the reason is, no matter how embarrassing or strange it might be.
Officer Becca
I mean, if he agreed to that, then, yeah, I'll share it.
Chumba Casino Voice
Yeah.
Officer Becca
He was married a year ago to a Russian woman, and she filed for divorce about a month ago.
Becca
Oh, that's rash.
Officer Becca
Yeah. That's a huge part of his life. And to just withhold that information.
Jeffrey
That'S.
Alexis
A lot of first date to bring up, though.
Brooke
I'm with Alexis on that. Like, how do you even start. So, listen, I had this Russian wife, and a month ago, like, that.
Jeffrey
You were expecting him to bring that up?
Officer Becca
Yeah, I think I was expecting him to tell me if he was separated. Being separated is a lot different from divorce.
Brooke
Oh, it's not official yet.
Officer Becca
Yeah, I feel like he could withhold a lot of information if he's not forthcoming about the truth, but that's kind of.
Brooke
See that. I mean, I don't know. I kind of am with her on that, like, if it's divorced and final and you're done with it. But if you're in the middle of.
Jeffrey
A separation and I think you can list it on your dating profile, like specifically your status. Single, divorce, separating.
Brooke
Is that what you look for? Mostly, yeah.
Jeffrey
The most traumatized would be great.
Nick
Yeah.
Jeffrey
But, like, did you even talk about relationships at all on the date?
Officer Becca
Yeah, I mean, I hinted about it and I shared about mine a little bit. You know, just keeping respectful details private. But, yeah, he said he didn't want to talk about it, and it seemed like he was evading the truth instead of just a private person.
Jeffrey
Okay, so can you at least let.
Becca
Him off with a warning?
Jeffrey
You know, Becca, I think the person who's actually going to find all of this the most interesting is actually Nick himself, who is listening on the other line has. Has tapped into our phone somehow.
Becca
And that's not against the law.
Jeffrey
We did consent to it, though. So he is there wanting to talk to you.
Officer Becca
Wow. Come on, guys.
Jeffrey
I'm sorry. That's how it works.
Brooke
I mean, you wanted the truth out of him. Now's the chance.
Jeffrey
Nikki there.
Nick
Yeah, I'm here. So what's up? Becca, you go on dates with people and you look up their history before you do, so.
Officer Becca
Yes, Nick, I'm a cop and a girl, I think.
Nick
Yeah, right. Well, we were going to a public place, and I feel like that's kind of using your cop resources to look up. My history was.
Officer Becca
Excuse me. I didn't use police resources. I used my own personal resources. And I just think it's really weird you wouldn't say anything.
Nick
I mean, I'm not telling you if that's true or not. I mean, you could have looked that up on some strange site that has false information.
Becca
Fake marriages, fake divorces.
Brooke
Okay, I'm actually gonna back him on this because I have a friend whose fiance looked her up when they were dating and he got all the information wrong.
Nick
It's true. You probably have the wrong guy.
Becca
Nick is a common name, Becca.
Jeffrey
Is that a possibility? That maybe it's a different Nick and you mixed them up?
Officer Becca
It's a hundred percent Nick.
Becca
Really?
Jeffrey
How do you know that?
Officer Becca
Because I'm a cop.
Alexis
Yeah.
Officer Becca
Okay, I'm gonna text you your marriage certificate right now.
Nick
No, no, wait.
Jeffrey
You can do that?
Becca
You got the marriage certificate?
Brooke
I think it's public record. Yeah, I think.
Jeffrey
Oh, wow. You can look. We should look.
Nick
Brooks.
Jeffrey
I know how many she has. Or is it not? I'm kidding.
Brooke
I'm kidding. Michael, if you're else it is.
Jeffrey
Which mic?
Officer Becca
It's absolutely public record. And I just texted you a photo of it. And there's your wife's name.
Jeffrey
Wait, Nick, do you have a text?
Nick
Nick, look, here's the deal.
Brooke
I defended you.
Becca
Wait a minute.
Nick
It was a mistake. It was a short term thing. Yes, I was married. Yes, I'm getting a divorce. It's gonna be done very soon.
Alexis
Yeah, you should have just said that 10 minutes ago.
Becca
We're back at the start.
Jeffrey
But the truth is, should have been the first thing you said to her when you greeted her inside of the restaurant opened up about your separation.
Becca
Yeah, I'm going through a divorce.
Brooke
If he would have told you that, you would have been okay with it. Really?
Officer Becca
I mean, honesty is the best policy. We all have a past.
Brooke
Wow.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Nick
Like, come on. What else do you know about me? Do you look at my record? From what, college?
Brooke
Wait, you're still the one being defensive. You just got outed as a liar.
Jeffrey
I am curious what you did in college. Yeah, sounds kind of fun. Want to know?
Nick
It was a stupid prank with a cow. But that's not even the point.
Jeffrey
With cows.
Brooke
What? Nick, it's not her fault, man.
Nick
Okay, well, I'm not saying it's her fault. I'm saying it's my past and it's not relevant.
Jeffrey
In Nick's defense, this is kind of embarrassing information to open up with, not to mention like on the radio, but especially on a first date with someone you're trying to impress.
Brooke
He's the one that chose to do the radio part.
Jeffrey
Well, I know. I'm just saying this is a lot. I'm. I'm trying to defend a guy who's in a weird spot here. So, Becca, he has admitted that you were right and he's ready to move on. Hopefully with you. Would you be willing to give him a chance?
Officer Becca
I'm not interested, guys. It's just a no brainer for me. You gotta be honest.
Nick
Oh, man, I wasn't dishonest. I am separated. I'm getting a divorce.
Jeffrey
It's just too late.
Brooke
You started with it. Probably wasn't me.
Nick
I didn't know she was such a good cop.
Jeffrey
Her interrogation skills are next level, dude. So maybe like a different professional uniform, like a coast guard. They won't look up your past.
Brooke
How about just be honest on the next day?
Officer Becca
Why is this so difficult?
Jeffrey
Look at Jeffrey in the morning. Why do our listeners love it so much when people get busted in a lie? On our second date calls literally texting to 78592 says. I knew that guy was a liar the moment I heard him. Him? I think I went out with him two months ago before he was separated. Who knows if that's true, but we could ask a certain officer that we know to go and investigate that particular text.
Becca
Oh yeah, we're friends now.
Brooke
I don't know that it's worth her time or our time. Yeah, probably gonna let that one lie. He needs to work out his own mess.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Becca
If anything, we call her, ask for help. She'll probably run our names and one of us will get arrested.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I hope she does.
Brooke
I'm surprised that we're all sitting here without handcuffs on.
Jeffrey
Yeah, I know we all enjoy a good pair of handcuffs around our.
Brooke
It's not what I meant.
Jeffrey
Is that not what you meant? I thought you were going someone else conversation. Anyway, unfortunately that call turned out to not end in a second date. No, we can't win them all. But we can always try. If you email the show, we'll call that person who's not calling you back and go check out all of our second dates. Wherever you find your podcast, on Apple, Spotify, even on YouTube at Brooke and Jeffrey.
Brooke

Podcast: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update
Host/Author: iHeartPodcasts
In the episode titled "Second Date Update: Right To Remain Sexy," hosts Brooke and Jeffrey delve into the complexities of online dating and the challenges of securing a second date after a less-than-perfect first encounter. The episode centers around a listener, Nick, who shares his experience of being ghosted after a promising dinner date with Becca, a law enforcement officer. The hosts aim to uncover the reasons behind the sudden lack of communication and provide insights into navigating similar dating dilemmas.
Nick's Introduction: Nick reaches out to the show to discuss his intriguing and somewhat perplexing date with Becca, a police officer he met through a dating app. He describes how their initial conversations were promising, highlighting common interests like coffee.
Key Moments:
Initial Interaction:
Nick attempts to break the ice with a humorous yet risky joke, which Becca responds to positively, indicating initial chemistry.
The Dinner Date:
The date takes place at a mid-range restaurant chosen by Becca, aiming for a comfortable yet unpretentious setting.
Post-Date Interaction:
Despite what seemed like a successful evening, Nick finds himself without any follow-up communication from Becca.
Analyzing the Situation: Brooke and Jeffrey dissect Nick's experience, pondering why Becca might have suddenly gone silent. They humorously speculate on whether the date was a cover for a police operation or if Becca was genuinely interested but pulled back for other reasons.
Notable Insights:
Becca's Cautious Behavior:
The hosts consider whether Becca's protective instincts as a police officer influenced her behavior during the date.
Speculation on Ghosting:
They explore the possibility of personal disconnects or misunderstandings contributing to the lack of follow-up.
Connecting with Becca: Determined to uncover the truth, Brooke and Jeffrey decide to call Becca live on air. The conversation takes a revealing turn as Becca addresses Nick’s concerns directly.
Critical Exchanges:
Revealing the Hidden Truth:
Becca discloses that Nick had recently undergone a divorce, a significant detail he failed to mention during their date.
Confronting Honesty:
Becca emphasizes the importance of transparency, especially for someone in her profession, and expresses her disappointment in Nick's lack of honesty.
Nick’s Defense:
Nick acknowledges his oversight but struggles to reconcile his actions with Becca’s expectations.
Final Verdict:
Becca decisively ends any potential for a second date, citing Nick's dishonesty as the primary reason.
Hosts Reflect on the Conversation: Brooke and Jeffrey discuss the implications of Becca's revelations, highlighting the critical role of honesty in building trust within romantic relationships.
Key Takeaways:
Honesty is Paramount:
The episode underscores that withholding significant information, such as one's marital status, can irreparably damage potential relationships.
Professional Accountability:
For professionals like law enforcement officers, personal integrity is non-negotiable, reinforcing the severity of Nick's actions.
Closing Thoughts: Despite the episode not resulting in a second date for Nick, Brooke and Jeffrey use it as a learning opportunity for listeners. They emphasize the importance of honesty, especially regarding past relationships and significant life events, to foster genuine connections.
Final Remarks:
Brooke: "If you email the show, we'll call that person who's not calling you back and go check out all of our second dates." [19:03]
Encouraging audience engagement, the hosts invite listeners to share their stories, promoting a community focused on transparency and mutual respect in dating.
Nick's Icebreaker:
"Are you a real cop or a stripper?" [03:43]
Becca on Honesty:
"He wasn't forthcoming with information, which I feel is a lie." [12:52]
Becca Revealing Nick’s Marital Status:
"He was married a year ago to a Russian woman, and she filed for divorce about a month ago." [12:43]
Becca’s Final Decision:
"I'm not interested, guys. It's just a no-brainer for me. You gotta be honest." [17:45]
Transparency Builds Trust:
Honesty about significant life events, such as marital status, is crucial in forming lasting connections. Concealing such information can lead to distrust and the dissolution of potential relationships.
Professional Ethics in Personal Life:
Individuals in professions that demand high ethical standards, like law enforcement, may hold themselves to stricter personal conduct, extending these expectations into their personal relationships.
Handling Ghosting with Grace:
Nick's experience serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of clear and honest communication to prevent misunderstandings and ensure respectful interactions in the dating sphere.
"Second Date Update: Right To Remain Sexy" effectively highlights the pitfalls of dishonesty in dating, especially when significant personal information is withheld. Through Nick and Becca's story, Brooke and Jeffrey provide valuable lessons on the importance of transparency and integrity in building meaningful romantic relationships. This episode serves as both entertainment and an educational resource for listeners navigating the often tumultuous waters of modern dating.
