A
All right, you caught us. We took vacation last week.
B
Sorry.
A
Yeah, I know, but we're back, and we got a brand new episode for you today. I mean, we can't say, but we totally weren't at Taylor and Travis's wedding. That's why we didn't take off. Right.
C
I was. Wait, you guys didn't get an invite? That's why I didn't see you there.
B
Yeah. That is not where we were last weekend.
C
That would be the most amazing thing ever. If I found my way into that
A
wedding, it'd be so. Well, I mean, Adam Sandler was the officiant. Yeah.
C
What did he say?
A
Did you say. And he did a song. He wrote a parody song that he. He performed.
C
Is he, like, Travis's favorite?
B
I hope we get, like, more inside looks at it, you know, it's gonna
A
be a movie that they put out.
B
I want to watch it in theaters. She's doing that all the time.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah.
A
All right, all right, enough about Taylor and Travis.
B
Yes.
A
Let's get into some messy relationships. That's more our wheelhouse. All right, your second date episode, brand new, starts right now. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date upd.
D
Entering a gas station convenience store. What's the number one rule you should have if you're a somewhat normal person?
A
Don't take your shoes off.
C
Don't make eye contact.
D
Jose's onto something. Experts say don't look at anyone. Don't talk to anyone. If you do, there's a 64% chance you're getting robbed or followed home.
C
Wait a minute.
A
I talked to everybody when I go into convenience stores.
C
Yeah, you're the sketchy one, Brooke.
A
Oh, they're scared of you.
D
It's weird. You just got to go in, grab your slim Jim, put 20 bucks on pump three, and get out.
C
Yo.
D
Literally, one of our listeners, Andre, either didn't know about that rule or just chose not to follow it.
A
Thank you.
D
Because he got into a conversation with a woman, and yikes, it led to a date.
A
Hey, look at that.
D
I'm curious. I want to know how that happened. Andre, welcome to the show, man.
A
Hey.
E
Yeah, I was actually looking for someone to rob, so.
A
Well, maybe. Maybe you stole her heart. That was for Alexis.
B
I knew someone was gonna say it.
D
Someone's gonna. Okay. Anyway, what happened in the convenience store? How did you meet this girl?
E
I was walking out, she was walking in. It was just super classic. She kind of just dropped me like a look, you know?
A
Okay, I don't know what look. In that quick moment can you give
C
a look when you're flirty, like, smize or whatever?
D
Or it's like, get out of the way of the door. I can't get inside. That look.
A
Less than a second interaction.
F
Y.
D
No, you. You tell us. You tell us.
E
Yeah, so, like, she smiled, and then she said, good luck, and I didn't know what she was talking about. I was holding a lotto ticket in my hand.
D
Oh, yeah. Okay. Nice of her to notice.
E
Yeah. So I was like, hey, maybe if you tap it, it'll be the magic ticket.
A
Okay, now we're standing in the doorway.
E
Yeah.
D
Touch my ticket for good luck.
C
I mean, telling girls to tap it is usually a little.
A
Yeah, that's what you do it at, like, a casino table. I mean, I'm I with him on
E
this for the moment. It was my only shot. And I know it's corny, but, like, she gave me a nice, cute smile and tap, tap, tap. But then she goes, now I need to see if you win, though. So we went, and no, I lost.
C
She's not good luck.
G
Right.
E
But I'm like, hey, you owe me. Maybe we can just have a date. And that's where it happens. I got.
D
Yeah, Yeah, I like that.
E
At the time, I didn't know if she was just going to give me a fake number, and she was just being nice in the moment, but she did text back, and it was her, so that's cute.
D
Okay, so did it lead to an actual, like, official date? Not at a gas station?
E
Almost.
D
Oh, almost.
A
No date. Take us up to the right. To the point of failure.
E
So I'll just say up front, it's definitely on me.
C
Oh, no.
E
We had something lined up, and I swear to God, an hour before we're supposed to be having our date, I had to cancel it, basically.
F
What?
D
Why?
E
I had a work event that I just couldn't get out of, and it was across town and everything. And I was just caught up in, like, being excited about having a date. I wasn't paying attention to what I had going on.
A
Do what Alexis would do and just fake sick. What are you doing?
E
I mean, I tried. I called her, and I was like, hey, I'll just ditch the work thing. Like, I don't even care if I get in trouble. And she was like, no, just go. She definitely seemed disappointed, but, like, I think she understood.
A
That sucks, though, because it's, like, ruins
C
the chemistry a little.
A
It does. And all the things leading up to this are, like, really a once in a million chance. Like, the interaction at the gas station. The actual real number that you got, that she actually agreed to go out on a date?
C
Yeah.
A
Then you screwed it all up.
D
Okay, well, we need to keep piling on, so what did you do to reschedule?
E
So after we had hung up, I sent her, like, another text sort of apology, and her response, though, was, if you get out early, why don't you get a bottle of wine and come over?
B
Ooh, that's a good offer.
D
That is definite silver lining.
E
I made any excuse to get out of there. I was like, hey, I gotta go. I'm not feeling so well. I tried anything I can.
D
I think I have Covid.
G
I have to leave.
C
I'm sick of my house is on fire, so.
A
But it worked. You bailed early, and you went over to her house with the wine.
E
Almost.
D
Almost again. What happened this time?
C
Where'd you get the wrong house?
A
Finish the job.
D
What happened?
E
There's just issues with transportation, and, like, I had to go get wine, and it was all the way across town, and it just got too late.
B
Oh, my God. Figure it out.
D
It's really bad when Alexis is admonishing you to get your life together.
A
How did you let her know the second time that you had to bail again?
E
So, like, she kept kind of being like, where are you? She said it got too late, and she was mad, basically. Like, she was just like, it's too late. Like, never mind. But now she doesn't even text me back or anything. She doesn't want to do another date. Like, she just ghosted me after.
C
That's your window.
A
You're not reliable now. Yeah, you know, that's the problem.
B
Two times.
D
Okay, but now we're gonna say something positive about him before we make this phone call.
A
Well, he sounds like a nice guy, and it's good that you have a job. Hey.
B
Yeah, it was nice you called her to bail.
E
I mean, I just don't want her to forget about, like, how random it was that we met up at a convenience store and how it just. It all seemed to align. And, like, just one off night really can't just mess it all up. I think, like, there is something fake
C
is still working here.
A
Well, you have to promise to, like, not try to change plans if we actually get you a second date at the end of this, look at your schedule.
D
And before we call this woman, do we have her name?
E
Kim.
A
Kim.
D
Kim. Okay, I feel like this is gonna be the moment that all of your bad luck finally turns around.
A
She's gonna get that winning scratcher.
C
Yeah. We're gonna help.
D
Or at least if not a winning scratcher, a date.
A
I was kind of using it as an analogy. I wasn't actually being serious.
D
Well, you maybe should do better analogies next time when we come back and do our second date update. Right after this.
A
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
D
If you're just joining us, Andre' first date with Kim was a series of almost but not quite. He almost made it to dinner, almost made it to her place, almost got a bottle of wine. We don't even know if he actually made it home that night. He may have gotten just locked out of his car and slept on the side of the road.
A
Oh, but he almost got there.
D
Almost. He's just having that kind of luck lately. But hopefully with Brooke in the room, we can change it.
C
Yeah.
A
Oh, I'm lucky.
D
Yeah. Brooke, you want to tap it for good luck?
A
Dude, I am the worst. If there is a 50, 50 chance I will, it fails.
C
Yeah.
A
I am not lucky.
D
Okay. Alexis, do you want to tap it?
B
Why not?
D
Okay, here we go.
C
Someone's gonna hearing that.
D
Andre, we're all tapping it for you. How does it feel?
E
I feel lucky right now.
A
I love that you think our show's the one that's going to turn this around for you.
D
I mean, at this point, she's not responding to him, so how much worse could it possibly get?
A
I want you guys to go out again. I really do.
C
Yeah, just go out. Right.
A
Oh, that's true.
D
That's right. Go for the first time. So let's see if we can make that happen. I'm gonna dial Kim's number right now. Hopefully she picks up, but here we go.
E
Hello?
D
Hey, is this Kim?
H
Yes, who's this?
D
Hey, Kim. This is a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
A
We are so thankful you answered the phone.
C
Good morning, Kim.
H
Okay, hi.
A
Sorry, came across a little over. Eager.
C
It is a little weird.
D
We're all very eager to talk to you because we've heard a lot about you from one of our listeners, a guy named Andre that you were supposed to go out with recently.
E
Oh, God, that guy.
A
What'd you say about him?
H
That guy?
E
Yeah, that guy.
D
He is that guy.
A
Yeah.
D
Yeah.
C
Nice, Jeff.
D
And we do this segment called the Second Date Update where basically we try to help two listeners reconnect after a first date or if something went wrong. We heard that you two had a date planned and it never really happened.
H
Yeah, sorry, this is throwing me all off.
E
This is.
A
It's throwing you off?
E
Yeah.
H
The radio is calling about.
D
Yeah, yeah, no, my. My voice does have that sort of hypnotizing effect on people, so I'll try to, like, slow it down.
A
I think it was a good thing, Jeff.
D
Okay.
C
This is a different situation. We're still normal people.
A
Can we just say, like, he told us about the interaction at the gas station, and, like, that is so cool. Like, this just doesn't happen very often, that you run into somebody and sparks immediately fly.
B
Real meet cute.
E
Yeah.
D
Yeah. Usually you get robbed at those gas stations by those dudes, but he just had you tap his ticket.
C
Wait, did he pickpocket you? We didn't.
D
That's a fair point.
A
No, I want to hear about the interaction from your perspective.
H
I don't know. It was kind of flirty, fun. I love to smile.
A
Okay.
C
All right.
D
Okay. So he felt a lot of those things, too, and he said he was really excited to meet up with you. And he told us there was a date plan that didn't quite happen. Then a hangout was planned that also didn't quite happen. Yeah, so can we just safely assume that you're, like, 10 out of 10 frustrated with him?
H
Oh, absolutely. That would be an understatement.
D
Okay, but.
A
Okay, but listen, he did say that you gave your blessing for him to go to the work event instead of
H
the date, so it didn't make me very happy. But, hey, I was rolling with it at this point. We were destined with our gas station meetup.
A
Oh, okay. They were still on the same page.
D
But you say that. So what changed your mind? Because according to him, you've stopped responding to his texts.
H
I would say what really changed my mind is when he went to pick up the bottle of wine at the store.
F
Yeah.
A
Why?
I
What?
H
No lie. That guy called me from the liquor stores three or four times. I mean, just going back and forth about which wine he should buy. He's like, I don't know which one you would like. Do you like red? You like white? What about pink? Should it be California? Maybe a foreign. He's sending me photos. Like, he really couldn't decide on the bottle of wine.
A
You got multiple texts and multiple calls just trying to pick out one bottle
H
of wine for 30 minutes.
D
By the way, he didn't tell us that he had called you from the wine place.
A
He also didn't tell us it took him 30 minutes to pick up one bottle of wine. No wonder it got too late.
D
Sure, but in his defense, a lot of dudes, like, have no experience with wine, and they don't know what to do.
C
So it is an art to pick one out. I really.
B
If someone doesn't tell you what type, just bring any.
A
Ask the worker there. Like, hey, man, I got 15 bucks to spend. What do I buy?
D
Well, you know what they say about making eye contact in a wine store.
C
That's like a gas station.
A
I don't think so.
C
You don't want to get shanked with a wine cork.
H
Even after he got the wine, it was even more of a dilemma for him. Like, hey, is it too late for me to come over? Which highway should I take?
C
Oh, no.
H
You think it'd be easier to take the backstreet dude?
C
It's like his indecisiveness almost shows weakness or something.
A
I've tried to defend him, but I'm triggered. Yeah, that is hard.
H
It's a pattern.
D
Okay, so his indecisiveness definitely turned you off.
C
Oh, no.
D
Do you feel like this is a good time to tell her that he's listening on the other line, or should we wait more to do that? Okay, I'm gonna go for it. Kim, I have to tell you, Andre's been on the other line of this call listening and wants to talk to you.
H
Are you sure? If he wants to talk to me,
D
I would assume so, but I don't know. Andre, are you there?
E
I'm here, yeah. I mean, I don't think I was being that indecisive, like, really, like, maybe a little bit, but, like, I wanted to give you the options. You weren't there. Like, maybe I gave you too many options or, like, not enough. Is it being too vague on the phone?
A
This is not helping, okay?
D
You're kind of doing it, dude.
H
Andre, you're doing it right now. You're literally all over the place.
E
I'm sorry. I can't help it. I'm nervous.
D
Well, I mean, I can understand, like, when you want somebody to like you, when you want to impress them, you want to be able to deliver. And sometimes you don't know you're over correcting overthinker.
C
But I was just gonna say overthinking can be the opposite problem.
A
It's a positive way to spin it.
B
For sure.
E
I see what you guys are saying, how I can, like, definitely come across that way. But on the other hand, I think I'm just weighing my options a lot of the time. Like, that's how I feel like it is. So I don't know.
A
You don't know. That's the problem.
D
We make some good points, but some points Are not good that we make.
A
I don't know.
E
Yeah, basically. Okay, all right.
A
I mean, you got to prove to her that you could be a decisive person who can make a choice and stick with it and be confident in the road you're taking.
D
Andre, go ahead. Talk to Kim decisively.
E
I would like to go out with you again. We can figure out what kind of wine we can get ahead of time.
G
No, no, no.
C
You don't want to figure it out. Just tell me what to buy.
E
But, like, seriously, I'll be a gentleman. We can go out at night. We can go out in the afternoon. We can get a 6am cup of coffee, like, whatever you want to do.
H
Deandre, I still don't think that you're really grasping where I'm coming from, because even before you went to your work thing, you literally spent 10 minutes on the phone just going back and forth with me on if you should go. Do you not recognize that?
A
That's right.
E
I mean, I don't know what to say. I mean, I. A lot of good points are getting
A
made, but I think it's more like Andre, what happened to the guy at the gas station that knew right in the moment that he had to seize the day, ask the girl out, and make it happen Like
C
a tap.
A
That was a. I don't want to
B
know how long he spent choosing which scratch ticket to buy. Yeah.
D
Kim just wants gas stat. Vibes. Can you give gas station vibes?
E
When that happened, I didn't have time to think. It was like a split second decision.
A
I think that's what you say less. Thank you. I mean, we don't actually often promote that. Very often.
D
So let's practice right now. Do you want to go on another date with Kim? We'd pay for it.
E
Yes.
C
Perfect. Good job.
D
Now the hard part is getting Kim to agree to go out on another date with Andre. Because, again, we would fund that date.
A
He knows what the problem is. Right. And I think maybe he can improve before the next time. He deserves one more chance.
E
Chance I could improve. I'm hoping I do. I'm just really hoping there's an only chance that I don't.
H
Oh, my God. What do you think you're doing it right now?
E
I'm trying.
D
We need a yes or no. Now you're being indecisive.
H
No, I'm gonna have to pass.
D
But maybe.
A
No, no, no.
H
Maybe I'm not indecisive. I'm very, very sure.
D
Andre, dude, I' what do I do
E
with this bottle of wine? That's just sitting in my car then. Okay.
C
Oh, you kept the wine.
A
You go back to a gas station, you find another attractive woman,
B
you're ready.
D
Tell her to tap it.
B
Yeah.
A
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
I
I'm Mangesha together. And I'm back with a new season of the podcast Skyline Drive. This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood boys, blue zones, and brain replacement. To try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever for all of us. I learned about some rad science.
A
I can make a brain for you. And then we can test what drug is the best for your brain as opposed to his brain.
I
Here are some hard truths.
A
I would expect Indians to age faster,
D
but I did not expect it to
A
be almost age 4 to 5 year
I
acceleration and get myself into a world of trouble.
A
I'd say probably start bone smashing.
D
That doesn't work.
A
Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.
I
Listen to Skyline Drive, how to live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Hey, guys, Paul Verze here, and I want to talk to you about Paul's best podcast, Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network and iHeartRadio. I sit down each week with a special guest and we discuss the actual absolute best of things Davidson.
D
It's that and then there's everything else.
G
He would just shout one line and it would murder.
C
Marie, lunch.
G
Let's talk about the best moments that we had on the road. I would love a cocktail. Dude, Joe could get last row, middle seat on a Southwest Airlines flight. Joe, how was your flight? It was great. The guy in Penn State, we were on the field and the player thought Joe is his former coach, and he hugged him, and he hugged him and Joe just went with it. The guy goes, what are you doing here, coach? And Joe just goes.
C
And you walk in and it is bananas. I mean, it's a feast for the eyes. And I was like, it's like. It's not my thing either, but we're here.
G
When in Rome, Top athletes, chefs, musicians, everybody listen to Paul's best podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
D
We know that guy has a job, but we never asked what. And I just. I really hope it's not as an air traffic control. Okay, Flight 313, you're cleared to land. Or wait, no, no, hold on. Maybe turn around. Yeah, bank right 300 or no. Actually left nose up agriculture, whatever. Just go for it.
A
How do you feel about it?
D
What do you think you should do?
E
Yeah.
D
Yeah. That indecisiveness was absolutely brutal.
C
Yeah.
A
Like, I wanted to be more of a just a friend to him, but. But it's hard for me because my husband gets into those things too, where he's like, well, what do you think I should do? I'm like, I don't care. Make a choice. I don't want to manage it.
C
Yeah.
D
That's so sweet.
A
I love love.
C
No matter what he does, we know it's across town and it was a big issue. Yes, it hurt him.
A
Yeah, that's right.
D

Podcast: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update (iHeartPodcasts)
Episode Title: Tap It or Scratch It
In this “Second Date Update” segment, the Brooke & Jeffrey team help a listener named Andre unravel why his promising spark with Kim—ignited by a quirky “meet-cute” at a gas station convenience store—fizzled before they even got to their official first date. What starts with a fun interaction spirals into hapless missed connections and, ultimately, a hard lesson about indecisiveness in dating. True to the show's style, the conversation is packed with comic banter, awkward honesty, and memorable listener moments.
For listeners who missed this episode:
You’ll get a deft blend of cringe, comedy, and dating realness. Andre’s tale is a cautionary one about how too many questions (in both wine and romance) can cost you a shot at serendipity—even if everyone’s rooting for luck to change.
