Ruthie Rogers
Hello, this is Ruthie Rogers, host of Ruthie's Table four.
Ali
Ali called me the stray dog because I would always turn up at my mate's house at mealtimes.
Brooke
This week I'm talking to Bono.
Ali
All of my ideas about social justice, or rather the lack of it came from my father, too. People have to have health, housing, and education drilled into me and his values.
Brooke
Listen to Ruthie's Table 4 of the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Ooh, in for a treat today. We got an update update. Hey, it's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Now, the way these work is we want to make sure everybody's on the same page because honestly, we need to re listen to this stuff. When Jeff tells us, oh, you know that couple that was on the show six months ago? They're back. We're like, yeah, we don't. We don't remember what happened.
Jeffrey
Yeah. So remember six minutes ago.
Brooke
Ye. So we're going to replay the original episode when they were on, and then after, we're going to have them back on the phone and tell us what's happened since. What's happened since. So you got to stick around through the whole thing on this one. And comments. We love those. Yes. I saw one from Yuki, who said, on my way from Germany to a vacation in Norway and listening to this while on the bus. The best time killer ever. It is such a foreign thought for us in the. In the States. Like, to be able to be on a bus and go to Norway. I know.
Jeffrey
Are you the most annoying person on the train because you're laughing so much?
Brooke
Yeah, I love it. All right, let's get this update update started right now.
Jeffrey
We've all heard the famous cliche, it's like Christmas in July.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Well, we're literally doing it.
Brooke
What do you mean?
Jeffrey
Because we did a second date call back in December featuring two potential lovers who met at a work holiday party.
Joseph
Okay.
Jeffrey
And even though that night didn't go the way they planned, and frankly, our call with them didn't go much better, somehow we've got them both back on the phone for a very surprising second date. Update. Update. It's a Christmas in July special, and it happens next. Second date update. Alexis, is there one sentence a random guy could say to you that would make you instantly want to kiss him? Write these down. Gentlemen, other than. Ma', am, can I get your license and registration, please? Oh, yeah, he's going to get your.
Brooke
What about asking for, like, my Starbucks order? Oh, you know, simple. Buying me a coffee, that changes my whole day. I thought you had a higher price of espresso rice.
Jeffrey
I'm a high price. Wow. I don't know about that move, but one of our listeners says he was taught something that he claims can get any Member of the opposite sex to go in for the kiss right after you meet them.
Brooke
Okay, I'm sorry.
Jeffrey
After you meet them? Right. When you meet them. That's wild. I don't believe this. I'm curious to find out what it is, so let's talk to Joseph. Now, Joseph, you got to be careful because we all might try to kiss you once we hear it. But tell us about this move that you learned.
Katrina
Okay, well, I want to make this apparent. I want to make this known right now. I didn't even develop this. This came from a female friend of mine.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Katrina
Yeah. She said if you've been making eye contact with a woman, you know, at a bar or an event or maybe a party, all you have to do is walk up to her and you have to be nonchalant, look at them and say, hey, you're pretty. You want to make out. With the attitude of not really wanting to and don't care.
Jeffrey
Hey, you're. Hey, you're pretty. Want to make out?
Brooke
I'm going to tell you, it is hard to imagine this working. No. Okay. If you're attracted to the person, though, it works. If it's someone you're not attracted to, it's not going to work.
Jeffrey
She's right. How did you feel hearing that word of advice from your friend?
Katrina
It was horrible. I was so uncomfortable. I'm like, yeah. I'm like, this would never work. I'm going to get slapped.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. There's no magic.
Brooke
Yeah. Despite your better logic, you tried it.
Katrina
We did. We did. Because she said nine out of 10 times, they'll go for it. So she was like, you know, we're going to go to a holiday party at her job, a work event.
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Jeffrey
At a work event.
Brooke
It's not his work.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Okay.
Katrina
It's hers. It's hers.
Jeffrey
But still, he's going to be. Oh, you're the girl that brought the guy.
Brooke
I wish this happened at our holiday parties.
Jeffrey
How many people work at her? Oh, yeah. At her office or wherever she is.
Katrina
Man, it's like hundreds. Hundreds.
Jeffrey
You got a big cool.
Brooke
Where they throw actually cool parties. Yeah.
Katrina
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Brooke
I've been to those.
Katrina
Yeah. So it was like an open bar. And she said, you know, a lot of cute girls work with her at her company. So I was like, okay. You know, with the skepticism, you know, and she also told me that, you know, we didn't have to hang, hang around each other. Just get out there, mingle, and that's what we did?
Brooke
Oh, yeah. Because I was worried that you were going to look like the boyfriend. You know, if everyone asks, who's your. Like, how are you there? People are like, how are you there with hundreds? When you go to those big ones, nobody asks.
Jeffrey
No, no.
Brooke
Because what department do you work in?
Jeffrey
Yeah. So you. You just went to the party, and first cute girl you saw, you just walked right up to her and used the line.
Katrina
Oh, no, that is not how that happened. I was. I was standing around for at least an hour and a half. Just. I was nervous.
Jeffrey
Think about this. Meeting someone for the first time who's attractive is a little nerve wracking. Right? The first kiss is always nerve wracking. Doing them at the same time and.
Brooke
In, like, a public event, you can't just go to your bedroom like you're in O. And you better not have eaten any of the appetizers because you want to have good breath.
Joseph
Yeah. Yeah.
Jeffrey
So, like, at what point did you actually try it or did you get there?
Katrina
When the drinks came and this is an open bar. The Courage Juice came in and I spotted this really, really cute girl, and I went up to her and I gave the line and she was like, you know what? It's the holidays. Why not shut. And she grabbed me by the hand, led me to a quiet corner, and we made out.
Brooke
No. Oh, my God. It wasn't even just like a quick kiss or anything.
Jeffrey
She got another location to kiss. That's kind of cool.
Katrina
It was crazy.
Brooke
At what point did you learn her.
Jeffrey
Name in the middle of it? My name's Jess. Did you get the name?
Katrina
She did give me the name. Her name was Katrina.
Brooke
Okay.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Katrina
We talked like 10, 15 minutes after our makeout.
Brooke
So you made a connection, get all the.
Jeffrey
All the hard stuff out of the.
Brooke
Way, but then what? The night ends? Or you, like, do you.
Jeffrey
Or how many other women. How many other women do you use this on at the work party?
Katrina
No, no, it was. It was just her. And she gave me her number and it was like, wow. I was like, I can't believe that actually worked.
Brooke
Did you guys get to connect? Did you talk after? Have you texted or anything?
Katrina
It was like here and there, so some.
Jeffrey
Oh, okay.
Katrina
Yeah. Yeah, Just a little bit.
Jeffrey
Maybe she feels awkward for making out with somebody at her own work party. You know what?
Brooke
A woman who leads a man into a corner is not embarrassed.
Katrina
She doesn't remember.
Jeffrey
Yeah. After an hour and a half of drinking, I mean, that. What about Hope?
Joseph
She.
Jeffrey
What does your friend say about her coworker like, did you tell her what happened?
Katrina
Kind of. I told my friend that the move worked, and she was like, oh, my God, who was it? But I didn't want to say because, you know, I didn't want to, like, have it weird for her, like, at her company.
Brooke
What, she brought you and told you to do it? I mean, honestly, there's so many people that work there, she may not even know her. She could be a plus one of somebody.
Katrina
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Oh, that's a good point. There's a lot of. Okay, so your friend doesn't know who it is, and you've been trying to reach Katrina for how long?
Katrina
For a little second now.
Jeffrey
A little second.
Brooke
Okay, well, actually have a date and see if there's, like, a real connection there.
Jeffrey
Yeah, a sober date or starting sober, maybe. That doesn't sound very fun. Okay, maybe not sober, but a date. Yeah. Well, we'll try and arrange something for you with you and Kadun Katrina when we come back. Get you your second date update right after this. Hold on. Second date update?
Brooke
You're in the middle of a second date update, update. And we're gonna find out how the couple is doing right after you hear part two.
Jeffrey
Today we learned about a hot dating hack. Yeah, well, kind of. Yeah, sorta. Where apparently, if you go up to any woman with a nonchalant attitude and casually say, hey, you're cute, you wanna make out. A lot of times if they're single, they'll say yes to that.
Katrina
Wow.
Jeffrey
And maybe even if they're not single, if you deliver it the right way.
Brooke
Apparently Jeff isn't nonchalant enough because nobody in this room is making out with him yet. He's saying it over and over.
Jeffrey
I did not do it right. But no, the thing is, we never asked, what do you do if the response back is no or what? Yeah. Or just something besides yes. Who are you?
Brooke
You are embarrassed and you shy away.
Jeffrey
Well, that's not a good look.
Brooke
You hope that you never see them again.
Jeffrey
Let's. Our listener, Joseph, if any of our listeners want to try this move for themselves, what are you supposed to say to a rejection?
Katrina
Well, if they say no, you say, yeah, no problem. Just find me when you're ready.
Brooke
Oh, no problem. Just find me when you're ready.
Jeffrey
Oh, my God, that's so. Oh. I want them to say no because. Because then you really don't care. You're like, okay, no worries. Change your mind.
Brooke
I would have said, me neither. I don't want to. I wasn't asking you.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
By the way, can we not call him out on this as a move that he like? Or it was even a bet, like.
Jeffrey
When she picks up, don't be like, the trick worked on you.
Brooke
You know, the thing is, is that he really likes her. That's why we're calling Brook.
Jeffrey
Why are you looking at me for that? Alexis is the one that usually ruins these boys.
Brooke
Alexis.
Jeffrey
Okay, Constant chatty Kathy over there dropping all the show sequences.
Brooke
You are so self aware.
Jeffrey
Alexis is here. All right, Alexis, pipe down. We're going to call this girl, all right? Don't ruin this for us. Here we go.
Joseph
Hello?
Jeffrey
Hey, is this Katrina?
Joseph
Yes, it's Katrina.
Brooke
Oh, yay.
Jeffrey
Hey, good morning.
Brooke
Hey, Katrina.
Joseph
Who is this?
Brooke
Great question.
Jeffrey
This is a morning show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning, and we are very, very eager to talk to you. You want to do a second date or something? It's whatever. If you.
Joseph
Wow. Okay. How did you reach me? This is kind of o.
Jeffrey
It's hard to answer that because we got an email from one of our listeners that met you recently at a holiday party named Joseph.
Joseph
Oh, Joseph. Okay. Yep, I remember him.
Jeffrey
Good.
Brooke
How would you describe him.
Joseph
Flat out? I guess I describe him as a liar.
Jeffrey
A liar?
Brooke
What do you mean?
Jeffrey
Like, he lies down a lot. He likes to nap.
Brooke
Oh, I'm a liar?
Joseph
No, he just completely lied to me. I met him. Yeah.
Jeffrey
Wait.
Brooke
Yeah. You had such a brief interaction with.
Jeffrey
This guy, at least according to him, what we've heard.
Joseph
Oh, so he told you all about it?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Joseph
So I don't know if this is what Joseph told you, but we ended up making out. It's not usually the order in which I do things, but we made out and then we had a talk.
Jeffrey
You don't normally do it that way. That's how we do it. So.
Joseph
No, I do not. This is definitely different for me. But then he tells me he works at my company. Someone's like, what are you doing here? I don't recognize you. So I looked him up, and there is no record of this guy working at my company.
Brooke
I don't know why he said that. Okay. But to be fair, sometimes my friends now meet people at the bar, and you could just make stuff up, and then you don't think you're gonna end up liking them. Right, but you've already made up, like, oh, yeah, I work in whatever. I. That makes sense, Alexis, like. Or it's just easier, right? It's just easier to say, yeah, I work here, too.
Jeffrey
Yeah, totally. Maybe he owns stock in the company. And in a way that's like financially responsible for part owner of the company.
Brooke
Yeah.
Jeffrey
What. What was that CBS show? Undercover Boss or something? It's like, oh, yeah, I work here and it's like, oh, no, actually, I own the whole thing. Maybe. Maybe some. Maybe some sort of, like, misunderstanding situation like that.
Joseph
Okay, I highly doubt that was the case.
Brooke
Okay, so you're just mad because he lied to you about working?
Joseph
Yeah, there was no reason for him to. So I don't know how to respond to this guy because I don't know who he is. Does he just crash in the party? Is he some kind of pervert?
Brooke
Why would you go to pervert? I mean, why don't you just text him?
Jeffrey
You don't have to text him or do anything like that. Because actually, Joseph is on the other line right now waiting to talk to you.
Joseph
Seriously?
Jeffrey
Yeah, in a non pervy way. Quietly listening.
Joseph
In the whole time he's been listening. Oh, God, no.
Jeffrey
It's because he likes you. Joseph, tell her.
Katrina
Katrina, I am so sorry. I just. Let me just start out with that. I want to apologize.
Jeffrey
Good start.
Katrina
I forgot that I did tell you those things, and I want to tell you where that's coming from. I'm not a pervert. I'm not a stalker. Any. Any creepo. Nothing like that.
Jeffrey
Do you work there?
Katrina
I don't work there.
Joseph
Okay, no, no, no.
Brooke
He just said that.
Katrina
All right, I'm gonna tell you something. I'm gonna be transparent. This came from a friend of mine who does work there, and she gave me a move. If I want to say it like that. As far as. If I do this particular thing, if I say, hey, I think you're pretty, do you want to make out? I can make out with any woman at that party.
Brooke
It is a female friend that told him to do this. I think that's very important.
Jeffrey
Thanks, Brooke. Yeah.
Joseph
You just went there specifically to test.
Jeffrey
Out your move when it was his friend is the one who was encouraging him. Because Joseph did not think.
Brooke
Who's saying no to a free holiday party with the open bar? I mean, my friend worked at a big company. Like. Yeah, I went.
Jeffrey
Yeah. If you should be mad at anybody, be mad at Joseph's friend for pressuring him to kiss you.
Brooke
Female friend.
Jeffrey
Female friend.
Brooke
I do think that's so important.
Joseph
Okay, I've crashed parties before. That makes sense.
Jeffrey
He was invited.
Brooke
Yeah, he didn't crash it.
Jeffrey
And the only was I work there.
Katrina
That's it.
Brooke
Right? You didn't lie about anything else, did You, Joseph?
Jeffrey
I should ask that.
Katrina
No, no, no. That was it. That was it. Because, Katrina, you didn't need to lie about that.
Joseph
Joseph, you could have told me the truth.
Katrina
No, not really.
Jeffrey
I came here to try out this line that my friend gave me, but.
Brooke
Yeah, no, about where you work. Not that part.
Joseph
Yes, it works. I guess it works. I got to admit, it worked.
Katrina
Okay, so.
Joseph
So I'm kind of curious. Would that line work if a girl tried it on a guy?
Jeffrey
Of course.
Brooke
Well, yeah, I think it'd work even better.
Joseph
I think it would, too, actually.
Brooke
The hard part is going to be finding a guy who you actually want to make out with.
Jeffrey
Why are you asking that?
Joseph
To be honest, my boss is recently single.
Jeffrey
Oh, God.
Joseph
And I had my eye on him.
Katrina
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. That's not the way is it supposed to be going? No.
Jeffrey
What's going on?
Brooke
Your boss?
Jeffrey
You want to try this on your boss?
Joseph
I would like to try it. I mean, not smart.
Brooke
Don't do that.
Jeffrey
Keep it equivalent. Trust me, I've tried a lot of moves on our bosses, and none of them work, so it's. I don't think it's a good idea.
Brooke
Jeffrey hasn't gotten a raise in over five years.
Jeffrey
No, I keep getting demoted.
Joseph
Listen, I don't even know who the hell you guys are, so don't tell me what to do.
Brooke
Yeah, but you got the idea from us. No, no, from him.
Joseph
Joseph. Joseph's got some smooth moves, and maybe I should.
Jeffrey
Well, are you going to kiss Joseph again? Because the whole reason that we're doing this call is because after you guys kissed, he felt like you had a really great connection and wanted to take it a little bit farther and go out on a real date. And we would pay for that date if you're willing to see him again.
Joseph
Yeah, I mean, maybe Joseph could be my wingman.
Katrina
No, no, Katrina, come on. I'm pouring out my heart here. I like you. I want to get to know you.
Jeffrey
You guys had a connection. Give it a chance with Joseph, and once that burns out, then you can go after your boss. There you go.
Joseph
You know, I'm willing to go on a friendly date. As friends.
Brooke
As friends.
Joseph
As friends.
Brooke
Do we cover friendly dates?
Joseph
We can exchange dating tricks and tips.
Brooke
Dude, you went from kissing this woman in the first five seconds to now you're her friend.
Jeffrey
Absolute friend zone wingman.
Brooke
I have never been not this excited about friendship in my life. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Okay, that was the end of the original second date that they were on. Oh, my God. Now we do have to play just a quick commercial, okay? Because we do have to pay for this show somehow. And we're gonna be back right after this with both of them on the phone to see what's happened since. Stay here.

Brooke
So what happened at Chappaquiddick?
Jeffrey
Well, it really depends on who you talk to. There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond and.
Joseph
Left a woman behind to drown.
Jeffrey
There's a famous headline, I think in the New York Daily News, it's Teddy escapes blonde drowns. And in a strange way, right, that sort of tells you the story really became about Ted's political future, Ted's political hope. Will Ted become president? Kappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control.
Brooke
And he's not the only Kennedy to survive a scandal.
Jeffrey
The Kennedys have lived through disgrace, affairs, violence, you name it. So is there a curse? Every week we go behind the headlines and beyond the drama of America's royal family.
Unknown

Jeffrey
Well, that call was from last Christmas. And now we've got Joseph and Katrina back on the phone to give us an update.
Brooke
I can't believe they're both here.
Jeffrey
Yeah, Katrina, what's happened in the last, like six to seven months since we last spoke?
Joseph
Well, we've actually moved in together.
Jeffrey
Wait, wait, wait, wait. What?
Brooke
Wait, who? You and your. Yeah, you and Joseph or you and your boss?
Joseph
Me and Joseph?
Jeffrey
No.
Joseph
Me and Joseph?
Jeffrey
You guys are together like that? Well, he's laughing.
Joseph
Not like together. We're just as friends.
Brooke
Oh, that's why you're laughing. Oh, you're laughing, Joseph. Cause we assumed you guys had a romantic thing.
Jeffrey
Okay, how did that happen?
Joseph
Well, actually, on the date, we found out that both our leases happened to be ending at the same time, my roommate was moving out. And so I was like, dude, why don't you just come live with me? Look, we can save some money. We've already got this great rapport.
Brooke
Joseph, are you cool with this?
Jeffrey
Like, yeah. That must have been hard for you, because the last time that we spoke, you seemed interested romantically in her, and Katrina was the one saying you should be friends.
Katrina
Well, I'm not gonna lie. At first it wasn't easy. Like, especially when she was bringing guys over. And just as a male, we're kind of territorial. So I couldn't help but to feel.
Joseph
Just a little bit jealous.
Katrina
Jealous?
Brooke
Oh, no, stop. Oh, stop. Wait. So how did you get over it? How did you get over feelings for.
Katrina
Oh, I guess it was her, man. Like, just her actually being the best roommate I've ever had. Like, the situation is amazing. Everything is always on point, on time. She's awesome.
Jeffrey
You could say two weeks of crying. Joseph, it's okay. You could say you cried for a long time. It's all right.
Brooke
To me, it sounds like he's not.
Katrina
Over it, but you never know.
Jeffrey
It sounds like you two are in a good place. And it's a really rare thing on this show to hear I got a friend for life out of a second date update.
Brooke
Why do I want another update in six months? Yeah.
Jeffrey
That'S really cool, but yeah, definitely keep us posted on what's going on in your lives. That's your second date. Update. Update. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. We finally switched to T Mobile because they know that those of us here and there want to stay well connected.

Jeffrey (03:35):
"We've all heard the famous cliché, it's like Christmas in July."
Brooke (03:39):
"Yeah."
They explain that the initial attempt at the hack didn't go as planned, setting the stage for the update.
The central focus of the episode is a dating tactic submitted by a listener, purportedly capable of securing a kiss within moments of meeting someone.
Jeffrey (04:35):
"I'm a high price. Wow. I don't know about that move, but one of our listeners says he was taught something that he claims can get any Member of the opposite sex to go in for the kiss right after you meet them."
Brooke expresses skepticism, questioning the feasibility of such a rapid connection.
Brooke (04:35):
"I'm going to tell you, it is hard to imagine this working. No."
Joseph, a listener who attempted the makeout hack, joins the conversation to provide firsthand insight into the tactic's effectiveness.
Katrina (05:03):
"She said if you've been making eye contact with a woman, you know, at a bar or an event or maybe a party, all you have to do is walk up to her and you have to be nonchalant, look at them and say, hey, you're pretty. You want to make out."
Despite initial discomfort, Joseph decided to try the move at a work holiday party, leading to an unexpected and successful outcome.
Katrina (06:37):
"When the drinks came and this is an open bar. The Courage Juice came in and I spotted this really, really cute girl, and I went up to her and I gave the line and she was like, you know what? It's the holidays. Why not shut."
Brooke and Jeffrey react with amusement and intrigue, discussing the spontaneity and boldness of the approach.
Jeffrey (07:01):
"You're the most annoying person on the train because you're laughing so much?"
Brooke (07:11):
"We did. We did. Because she said nine out of 10 times, they'll go for it."
As the conversation progresses, Joseph reveals an inconsistency that adds a twist to the story.
Joseph (13:28):
"So I don't know if this is what Joseph told you, but we ended up making out. It's not usually the order in which I do things, but we made out and then we had a talk."
He uncovers that Joseph falsely claimed to work at Katrina's company, leading to confusion and initial frustration.
Joseph (13:28):
"So, I looked him up, and there is no record of this guy working at my company."
Brooke and Jeffrey probe deeper, uncovering that the move was instigated by Katrina's friend, adding layers to the narrative.
Katrina (15:48):
"This came from a friend of mine who does work there, and she gave me a move."
Six months later, Brooke and Jeffrey reconnect with Joseph and Katrina to learn about the progression of their relationship.
Brooke (21:15):
"I can't believe they're both here."
Surprisingly, Joseph and Katrina reveal that they've opted to live together as roommates rather than pursuing a romantic relationship.
Joseph (21:19):
"Well, actually, on the date, we found out that both our leases happened to be ending at the same time...so I was like, dude, why don't you just come live with me?"
This unexpected development showcases a mature and practical approach to their connection, highlighting the different directions relationships can take.
Katrina (22:08):
"Well, I'm not gonna lie. At first it wasn't easy... but I couldn't help but to feel a little bit jealous."
However, they overcame initial feelings, emphasizing the importance of compatibility and friendship.
Katrina (22:29):
"I guess it was her, man. Like, just her actually being the best roommate I've ever had."
Brooke and Jeffrey commend their decision, celebrating their platonic partnership.
Jeffrey (22:58):
"It's a really rare thing on this show to hear I got a friend for life out of a second date update."
Brooke and Jeffrey conclude the episode with reflections on the unpredictability of relationships and the benefits of genuine connections, whether romantic or platonic.
Brooke (23:02):
"Why do I want another update in six months? Yeah."
They encourage listeners to remain open to various outcomes in their dating journeys, emphasizing that every experience offers valuable lessons.
Jeffrey (03:35): "We've all heard the famous cliché, it's like Christmas in July."
Brooke (04:35): "I'm going to tell you, it is hard to imagine this working. No."
Katrina (05:03): "You want to make out with the attitude of not really wanting to and don't care."
Joseph (13:28): "We made out and then we had a talk."
Katrina (15:48): "This came from a friend of mine who does work there, and she gave me a move."
Joseph (21:19): "Why don't you just come live with me?"
Katrina (22:29): "She's actually being the best roommate I've ever had."
