your Second Date podcast. We got a brand new episode for you today.
Host/Announcer
It is an Update Update.
Co-host
So we will play the original second date. We understand that you may have heard this already. I always have to establish it.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, it's always missed, so don't worry. Yeah.
Co-host
But in part three, we're gonna have the couple back on the phone to see where their relationship is at since they've been on our show.
Co-host/Commentator
Yes. So play the original little ad, skip. Do whatever you want.
Co-host
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
Then they're back.
Co-host
Okay, that's exactly right.
Host/Announcer
All right.
Co-host
And we're talking about yesterday's show in the comments.
Co-host/Commentator
Yes, the mom blocked second D update.
Co-host
Oh, the mom who suddenly surprised showed up.
Co-host/Commentator
Yes. And Natalie commented, I have a son and daughter who are both dating. I've learned to call all their dates sweetie and keep it moving. I won't commit names to memory until I get a wedding invite.
Host/Announcer
That's so good.
Co-host
My mom at one point pulled me aside and said, brooke, you don't have to bring them all home. I don't. I don't need to meet them all.
Co-host/Commentator
It's so funny.
Host/Announcer
So my mom's opposite.
Co-host/Commentator
She won't know until I am getting married that I've been dating someone. So sorry, Barb.
Host/Announcer
Oh, it's so good.
Co-host
Here we go. Your update update, brand new, starts right now.
Brooke
If there's one message we've been promoting on these dating segments for years. Yeah, it's ladies, get yourself a mama's boy. You will not be disappointed too.
Co-host/Commentator
Mama boy though, right?
Co-host
There's a line. There's a line.
Shaquille O'Neal
Yeah.
Co-host
Respectful, but not like love their mom
Brooke
doesn't need their mom, but little passion too. And that couldn't be more true than with today's call, which started when a young man approached a perfume counter trying to find a special gift for his mother. And that turned into one of the more awkward and somehow weirdly adorable date situations we've ever had. Which is why today the couple is back on to fill us in on what's happened since. That's right, it's a brand new second date update update. Coming up right after this, Brooke and
Commercial Narrator
Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
Big day on the show, cuz. Denise is back.
Co-host
Oh, I've been waiting for Denise.
Brooke
We all have. Yeah, you may remember her from a second date update around six months ago or so where her strategy was to find available men at the golf course.
Host/Announcer
Oh yeah, that was smart too.
Co-host
That was Right.
Brooke
She decided to take up the hobby and she would go there and say, oh no, I don't know how to do this. How do I swing this long metal stick? And then, well, to do gentlemen would come over and help her. She ended up meeting one guy named Franklin who owned a couple car washes. That whole thing didn't work out in the end, but Denise is not giving up.
Co-host
That's right, Denise.
Brooke
She is back requesting our help once again. But not hitting the golf clubs, apparently.
Co-host
We got a new man hobby.
Brooke
According to your email, Denise, you've got a new strategy to meet guys.
Denise
Yes.
Co-host
Okay, do tell.
Denise
Yeah, Okay. I was thinking about other places that eligible single guys would be okay. And I realized that around the holidays, there's a lot of them around the perfume downtown shopping for their moms and their sisters and their aunts, their girlfriends.
Brooke
Just keep the list going there.
Co-host/Commentator
Guys buy perfume for their moms.
I've never bought for my mom, but I have bought my mom chocolate strawberries. So there's a line there.
Brooke
You should get some perfume next time too. Really show it.
Denise
Yeah, not too far fetched, right?
Co-host
No, we, we actually are a little confused, Denise, because most men buying fragrance, they're going to have a significant other.
Brooke
Most.
Shaquille O'Neal
Most.
Denise
Exactly. Or maybe he's helping his friend.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, we didn't think of that.
Jeffrey
Brooke.
Brooke
You can't see the look on Brooke's face right now, but she is shaking her head, very skeptical about this entire thing.
Co-host
It's a reach. But it sounds like it works for you because you're. You're on with us. And you must have met somebody this way, right?
Denise
Yes. So I did get a part time job at a department store. I do have a full time job, but I'm just doing this at night to meet guys.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, w. That sounds smart.
Co-host
So who'd you meet?
Denise
Okay, so I did meet a guy. His name is Caleb.
Co-host/Commentator
Caleb.
Denise
You know what really caught my eye was that he was very shy compared to all of the guys that I've seen all day. And he was actually getting perfume for his mom.
Co-host/Commentator
We found her.
Denise
Yeah, they exist.
Brooke
Okay.
Denise
But he didn't know what to get her. So that's where I came into play, luckily.
Brooke
Okay.
Denise
And I took this opportunity to flirt with him and I sprayed him on my hand and on my neck.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, you do the neck move.
You had him smell your neck?
Co-host
Does this smell like your mom? Wow.
Brooke
You pulled out all the moves. Okay.
Denise
All of it. He went with one of the perfumes, and I rung him up and, you know, he just kind of stood there while hanging around the counter because, you know, he's so shy. And I was just initiating conversation, so I. I was very, very direct and I said, if you want to ask me out, it's okay, you can.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, I wish every girl would do that. We need a big green flag, like, come on, buddy.
No, because if they say no, then I'm gonna go. Oh, my God, never leave my house again.
Host/Announcer
Rejection is not that big of a deal.
Co-host
Trust me, it's not.
Brooke
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
Every day.
Brooke
What did Caleb say?
Denise
Well, he said, okay, will you go out with me?
Co-host
Cute.
Denise
I said yes. And I wrote my number on his receipt.
Brooke
Wow.
Denise
And then after he left, he had texted me a couple of times.
Co-host/Commentator
Okay.
Denise
But there hasn't been an official date.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, he was really timid. Did you bully him into a date?
Denise
Like, I wouldn't say bully. I would say strongly convinced.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, he could have said no, too.
Brooke
I'm totally kidding.
Co-host
You weren't shy and you love that line that she just gave.
Co-host/Commentator
You know what I mean?
Co-host
So maybe it's universal. Do you think he just doesn't know what to do on a Date. Like, I'm being serious. Like, does it know where to go or, like, what to plan?
Denise
I think because he is so shy, maybe all of this might be a little overwhelming for him. Maybe he doesn't actually, like, act women out on the regular.
Brooke
Or do you think maybe he's taken already and was also being a little bit sneaky with you?
Denise
I've seen cheaters. I know how they move.
Co-host
Yeah, he doesn't move like a cheater.
Denise
He's not like that.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, he's Obama's boy.
Brooke
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah.
Brooke
It might be possible he put the perfume on his mom and then he was like, oh, wow.
Co-host/Commentator
What? Jeff, don't continue.
Co-host
Like, we already did a lot of jokes.
Co-host/Commentator
That would do it.
Denise
Yeah.
Brooke
I'm just saying it's a possibility for a shy boy.
Co-host/Commentator
He's dating his mom now.
Co-host
Shy boys want to hook up with their mom.
Brooke
Let's put everything on the table, and then we'll find out the truth. When we come back, we're gonna call Caleb and find out who he really wants to go out with. A second date update.
Co-host
Let's set some
Brooke
happening right after this.
Commercial Narrator
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update. You're in the middle of a second date update update.
Co-host
And we're gonna find out how the couple is doing right after you hear part two.
Brooke
If you're a shy boy who's buying perfume for his mom this holiday season.
Co-host/Commentator
What?
Brooke
Jeff, be careful.
Co-host
Why?
Brooke
Because it might be a trap.
Co-host
Maybe you want a trap, Jeff.
Brooke
You maybe do. And I say that because our listener Denise is a purposeful dater. She tries to put herself in situations so she can meet available men who aren't on the apps.
Co-host
Yeah.
Brooke
Like in a previous episode, she was trying to meet guys at the golf course, but now, since it's around the holidays, she's been trying to meet single men at the perfume counter by working there part time.
Co-host
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah.
Co-host
That is commitment.
Co-host/Commentator
Perfume's not cheap. So I get kind of checks her boxes.
Brooke
Right Available probably. Well to do.
Co-host
Successful, thoughtful buys gifts might be a
Brooke
little bit counterintuitive, but there are lots of clueless guys out there who need help shopping for presents, hopefully for their mother or for their sister.
Co-host
Or maybe there's a guy out there that's buying perfume or cologne for himself
Co-host/Commentator
or for the homeless. Yeah, for charity.
Co-host
Homeless.
Co-host/Commentator
Don't they need other things first?
Brooke
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah.
Brooke
Don't go around spritzing the homeless. That's just not a good move. But it is how she met Caleb, and she even kind of pushed him into Asking her out. Problem is he hasn't followed through with the actual date yet. So that's where we're going to try and step in and help recap.
Co-host
Are you worried that we're gonna scare him even further? Like he's a shy guy and then,
Denise
I mean, it has been some weeks, so I definitely need the help.
Co-host
Okay.
Denise
I can't do it or else I'm gonna come off too pushy and I'll scare him away.
Brooke
Yeah, I mean, if it's been weeks, what does she have left to lose at this point?
Shaquille O'Neal
Yeah.
Brooke
What is gonna ghost her even more?
Co-host/Commentator
She keeps doing the same thing.
Co-host
Yeah, that's true. That's tr. Well, we'll try to talk softly and not frighten him.
Co-host/Commentator
No one's talking softly in this room.
Brooke
Okay, well, we'll be delicate with your shy future boyfriend, and we will try and get him to say yes to actually going out on this date with you. So here we go. Need him to say that.
Fitness Enthusiast
Here we go.
Caleb
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is this Caleb?
Caleb
Yeah, this is Caleb.
Brooke
Hey, man. This is a radio show.
Co-host
Oh, strong Jeff.
Jeffrey
Good morning.
Caleb
Yeah,
Brooke
morning. We're a show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. I don't know if you've heard of us before.
Caleb
I believe I heard of it. Okay. Okay.
Brooke
Well, maybe you've heard of the segment that we do that's called the Second Date Update, where we try to reconnect listeners after they've met up once and they're having trouble seeing each other again.
Caleb
Yeah, I think so. Okay.
Co-host
Okay.
Caleb
All right.
Brooke
So that's what we're trying to do here with you, because one of our listeners, Denise, has been trying to get a hold of you.
Caleb
Denise.
Co-host
Remember? Denise? Smells good. Denise, you met Perfume. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Caleb
That's why she said that this must be a joke because I've been texting her.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, we heard that.
Brooke
But Denise, feels like you haven't made enough of a push to actually go out on the date.
Caleb
Yeah, I just. I just can't go out with her.
Host/Announcer
Oh, no, Never.
Brooke
Is there a reason?
Caleb
No, it's. I wanna. It's just not the right time. Not yet.
Co-host
Not yet.
Co-host/Commentator
What do you have to wait for, brother?
Brooke
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
What does it.
Brooke
What does it mean?
Caleb
I got some things I'm working on. Working on myself.
Brooke
I mean, with all due respect, people are dating, they have busy lives, and sometimes they just can't wait forever. So we're just trying to figure out,
Co-host
like, how long this self time is going to take.
Brooke
Exactly.
Co-host
We're talking another week. Or are we talking two years?
Caleb
Well, I'm not exactly sure. I ordered some special supplements, and I'm trying them out, see whether they're effective.
Brooke
What kind of supplements are we talking about, if you don't mind me asking?
Caleb
I probably shouldn't say more than I did. Okay.
Co-host
Oh, we didn't need to get into a private matter.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
You're doing steroids, bro.
Co-host
No, I was thinking maybe hair loss. Is that what's going on?
Caleb
Oh, well, it does have to do with growing.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, my God.
Brooke
Okay. Oh, yeah, we. And we really shouldn't ask anymore.
Co-host
I don't want to speculate.
Co-host/Commentator
Stop asking. My bad.
Brooke
You're testing out supplements, it sounds like, and seeing what works.
Co-host
Are you asking Jeff because you're wondering what the results are for yourself?
Brooke
My motives are none of your business.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, Jeff's like, also, what are you taking?
Caleb
I just really want to be ready for Denise if it goes well. Okay.
Co-host
I mean, I think supplements are. No supplements. You could do that. You could be there. Yeah, I'm just trying to hype him up.
Denise
I feel bad for him.
Co-host/Commentator
Okay.
I don't think it works.
I'm trying to be one of the guys.
Co-host
I'm trying to, like, make it feel better. I have to feel bad about whatever it is.
Brooke
I know what Brooke's trying to say. She's trying to say, caleb, truly, a lot of people think that they have it in their mind, oh, I'll start dating once I lose five pounds or once my hair transplants come in. You're waiting for the perfect moment. Yeah, but they're really. Is never a truly perfect time. You just got to say, you know what? I like this person. I'm gonna go for it.
Caleb
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I just think Denise is really gonna like it. Okay.
Co-host
But, yeah, confidence is good.
Brooke
And I don't know if this is a. If there's a good thing or a bad thing, but I have a feeling you would never go out with Denise unless I told you that. She's actually on the phone right now listening.
Caleb
Oh, my gosh.
Brooke
To this whole thing.
Denise
Hi, Caleb.
Caleb
So embarrassed.
Denise
No, it's okay. I'm flattered that, you know, you really want to be ready for the date.
Co-host
Aw. Yeah. That's cute.
Caleb
Thank you.
Denise
Yeah, of course. I mean, you know, you don't need to take supplements or whatever it is just because of.
Caleb
Yeah, I just. I think you'd like it.
Denise
I don't know if I want to respond to that. I hope I'd like it a. Oh, my goodness.
Caleb
I Have a new one coming in this week, and it's really promising.
Co-host
What do you mean a new one? How many of you tried?
Caleb
Yeah, like, it's called beard burst. I'm trying to get facial hair.
Co-host
What?
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, wait.
Brooke
What?
Co-host/Commentator
It's a facial hair growing thing. He said.
Co-host
What did you just say?
Caleb
Beard burst? It's her facial hair. Because beards are really hot right now.
Host/Announcer
Just fell out of her chair. That's amazing.
Denise
It's about facial hair.
Caleb
Yeah.
Host/Announcer
I'm having trouble.
Caleb
I want to cry.
Denise
My hair.
Co-host
Oh, my God.
Host/Announcer
Oh, my God.
Brooke
We were being so delicate with him.
Caleb
What did you think it was?
Co-host
What?
Co-host/Commentator
I don't think I'm allowed to tell you.
Denise
Yes.
Caleb
Oh, God. Did you think I was trying to order drugs?
Denise
Oh, my God.
Host/Announcer
But yes.
Caleb
I don't have facial hair, and I want it to get bigger, and I just can't grow it.
Host/Announcer
Okay, Nobody cares about that.
Denise
Listen, I am pro wanting to feel better about yourself, so you know what? If you're on this beard journey, I will go on this journey with you.
Co-host/Commentator
Wow. All beard journey together.
Co-host
That doesn't mean you're gonna grow your own. Right, Denise?
Jeffrey
Yeah, I know.
Brooke
You sounded kind of desperate, dude.
Denise
How about this? As long as I can be your personal facial massager, I think we can make this work.
Caleb
Wow.
Host/Announcer
Wow.
Co-host
That is, like, the best offer we've ever.
Co-host/Commentator
Denise is tired of working at the perfume store.
Brooke
It's a much better offer than the one that I'm about to give. Where we're gonna pay for your next date.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah.
Brooke
If you'll agree to see Denise one more time, Caleb.
Caleb
Oh, yeah, absolutely. I really want to see her. I just. I just hope you don't need a Hemsworth at the perfume counter and kick my to the curb.
Denise
No, I'm sure Hemsworth would have nothing on you, sweetheart.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, wow.
She's great, bro. You gotta keep her.
Have you looked at a photo of him recently?
Co-host
Yeah, I was gonna say she's great at lying.
Denise
Yeah, I did meet him at the perfume counter.
Co-host/Commentator
Guys make commission off him.
Brooke
That's right. We started on a mission to get Denise a date from her perfume counter, and she found her perfect Hemsworth lookalike. Well, soon, soon. To be looking like Hemsworth sounds like
Co-host/Commentator
the opposite of a Hemsworth.
Brooke
Caleb. You're the man, Caleb.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah.
Caleb
Thanks. And tonight, I'm gonna delete my Tinder profile.

Did anybody else say anything to you about that? Caleb?
Caleb
Oh yeah.
Co-host
Oh yeah.
Brooke
Oh yeah.
Co-host
I bet you got made fun of a lot in your friend group.
Caleb
Yeah, they all said I said it weird.
Brooke
Yeah.
Caleb
And the one thing that I do want to make clear is the beard is the only thing that needed help growing.
Co-host
Oh, okay.
Host/Announcer
You just.
Co-host/Commentator
He needed to clarify for the ladies.
I've been waiting for months to hear that. I needed to know.
Co-host
He's had months to think about the one thing he wanted to tell everyone.
Brooke
I'm glad we got that out there. But more importantly though, how is your relationship with Denise? Because that's the whole reason why we have you on the show today. Is Denise there?
Denise
Yes, I'm here.
Brooke
Okay, good. How are things going with you two?
Denise
Things have been absolutely great. And actually Caleb is getting a little bit famous because of this whole situation with the beard.
Co-host
What do you mean famous?
Co-host/Commentator
Do people recognize it for the second date?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Denise
How So I guess the company who makes the pills, they heard him on the radio. No, they asked if he would endorse them and be an online influencer.
Brooke
Are you kidding me?
Co-host/Commentator
That's awesome. He probably came like a link and get a percentage of sales.
Co-host
Don't let our sales department hear this. They're going to die.
Brooke
I know. It was that easy.
Co-host/Commentator
They're going to approach me soon. Jose, you want to grow a beard?
Brooke
Oh, my God, Caleb, that's amazing. How does that make you feel?
Caleb
Well, I never thought I'd be a beard grow influencer kind of niche, I guess. But now I don't have to pay for the pills anymore, so that's cool too. And you're giving me some money.
Co-host/Commentator
And think of Christmas time. You can put ornaments in it and stuff. Dude.
Co-host

Co-host/Commentator
You can really go for it.

Now, seriously, you guys should also know that the beard really does look great.
Host/Announcer
Oh, good.
Co-host

Denise
Okay, yes. I'm just really happy that you guys convinced me to give him another shot.

Podcast: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update, iHeartPodcasts
Episode Theme: Revisiting a memorable, quirky Second Date Update featuring Denise and Caleb, with an exclusive update on their relationship after the infamous "perfume counter" saga.
In this special “Update Update” installment, Brooke, Jeffrey, and the team reconnect with Denise and Caleb—whose first encounter at a perfume counter led to one of the show’s most awkwardly adorable stories. The episode revisits the original "Second Date Update," highlights the hilarious misunderstanding about Caleb’s “supplement” usage, and wraps up with a joyous check-in on the couple’s relationship status (and beard status!).
[05:28 - 11:00]
Brooke [05:28]: “She ended up meeting one guy named Franklin who owned a couple car washes. That whole thing didn’t work out…Denise is not giving up.”
[12:49 - 16:49]
Caleb [14:00]: “Well, I’m not exactly sure. I ordered some special supplements, and I’m trying them out, see whether they're effective…”
Caleb [17:06]: “Beard burst? It’s for facial hair. Because beards are really hot right now.”
Denise [17:16]: “It’s about facial hair…Oh my goodness.”
[17:18 - 19:10]
Caleb [19:03]: “Thanks. And tonight, I’m gonna delete my Tinder profile.”
Denise [18:02]: “As long as I can be your personal facial massager, I think we can make this work.”
[20:45 - 23:23]
Caleb [21:16]: “The one thing that I do want to make clear is the beard is the only thing that needed help growing.”
Host [21:24]: “He needed to clarify for the ladies.”
Denise [21:46]: “Caleb is getting a little bit famous because of this whole situation with the beard.”
Denise [22:46]: “Seriously, you guys should know—the beard really does look great.”
This “Second Date Update UPDATE” offers a feel-good follow-up to a unique dating story—moving from quirky meet-cute, to misunderstanding (and some gentle ribbing about masculinity), and finally to a sweet, supportive relationship (with a bonus influencer gig). Denise and Caleb’s success is a testament to confidence, directness, and the unexpected perks of participating in a radio dating segment.
If you love quirky, heartwarming dating stories with unexpected turns, this is a must-listen episode!
