Jeffrey
Hey, we're going to give you an update update today. Remember, that is not a typo from Alexis.
Alexis
Not this time.
Jeffrey
No, in the title. But what that is is we'll play you the original. The original episode that our couple was on with us, and then they're going to come back for a part three. Again, we're sorry about the commercials. We got to pay for the show somehow. Yeah, but we're going to come back with a part three and get an update of what's happened since. Yeah, that's coming up in just a second. But first, we need to reflect. We need to do a little reflection about our awkward Tuesday phone call this week.
Alexis
It was the 40th birthday blunder. For those of you who listened with the sister that. I'm just gonna say she just sucked. If you read the comments, overall consensus, everyone agreed she.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Did she sound like she was jealous of her brother or something?
Jeffrey
God, it was awful. Yeah, like, I can't even imagine feeling that way about my sibling.
Alexis
Yeah, and everybody was on board to throw him a party. We got Beardo saying, hey, I'll come to his party. Or let's do an online party. Brooke and jeffrey's 40th zoom party for Malcol. I'll go to your party, bro.
Jeffrey
Okay, we are going to share all these comments with Malcolm and see if he's interested.
Paul
Yes.
Alexis
Absolute legend.
Jeffrey
One of a kind. People love him. People love him.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
All right, now read all the positive ones about the sister.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Alexis
Disgusting human. Can I be counted as nice?
Brooke
Better than the other one.
Jeffrey
It doesn't have a cuss word in it.
Alexis
Yeah, it doesn't.
Jeffrey
So there you go. All right, let us know what you think about this episode. Brand new one starts right now. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update.
Brooke
I feel like we always debate date this every couple months or so.
Sarah
Okay.
Brooke
Are flowers okay to bring on a first date? Is it too cute or just looking at Alexis's face right now? Is it a major ick?
Alexis
I just think it shows age. I think the older you are. It's okay. We're young.
Jeffrey
Wow.
Alexis
I don't know. No. High schoolers are, like, older.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Okay.
Alexis
High schoolers are above 30. I think it's okay.
Jeffrey
Huh?
Brooke
Does that offend you, Brooke?
Jeffrey
No, I think it depends on the type of flower is what I was thinking.
Alexis
Good point too.
Jeffrey
You don't want to get 12 roses. No, like that's.
Brooke
Whoa, romantic.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Once every 100 years.
Jeffrey
The stinky one.
Brooke
Jose, you pro flowers on a first date?
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
I am, but I think one. I think it's safe to bring one
Jeffrey
single flower that you pick from somebody's yard on the way over.
Hoda Kotb
Yeah, that's the key.
Brooke
It's fresh as long as it's semi alive. Yeah, and I only ask cuz one of our listeners, Sarah, says she got a gift on her first date. Better than flowers.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Oh, there are gifts better than flowers.
Jeffrey
What is it?
Brooke
According to her? And she can't let it go. Sarah, welcome to the show. And tell us, what's the name of the guy you met and when was your first date?
Sarah
So his name is Paul and our date happened about a month ago.
Jeffrey
Whoa, that's a long time.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Yeah.
Jeffrey
Why did you wait so long to reach out to us if you're having issues getting a hold of them?
Sarah
Well, I don't know. I was just hopeful he would reach back out to me and he just hasn't.
Jeffrey
Okay, you're patient.
Brooke
You're saying he hasn't. He hasn't been in contact that entire stretch for the whole month?
Sarah
Yeah. After I thanked him for the date, he responded with a couple of texts like, this is my pleasure for the prettiest girl in the world.
Jeffrey
Oh my God.
Brooke
Alexis has an issue with that statement. She's.
Alexis
This isn't about me. Yeah, not my segment.
Jeffrey
Are you trying to argue that you're the prettiest girl in the world? Is that what you're trying to.
Brooke
You have some competition here.
Alexis
Not my se.
Brooke
Okay, well that's. That is a nice thing for him to write back to you after your date.
Sarah
Paul actually gave me the sweetest gift. Very thoughtful. I mean, something no guy's ever done before.
Brooke
What was it?
Sarah
He picked me up for the date. And instead of taking me to a bar or someplace to get drinks, we drove out to this area of the city where you can really see the night sky.
Alexis
This scares me. Okay, don't leave the city limits on a first date, Alexis.
Brooke
Remember, it's not about you.
Jeffrey
I know, but that's actually a good safety tip. I'm not gonna lie.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
You know what? Alexis is proving her point. An old couple used to drive up on a mountain and go to Makeout
Jeffrey
Point because their parents knew each other in the old days.
Brooke
You know what I mean?
Jeffrey
Like that was some rando on the Internet.
Brooke
Sarah clearly this is a unique situation. We don't usually hear about stuff like this on this segment, so keep going. He was driving you out to a dark area of the. What happened?
Sarah
Yeah. So he brought out a telescope, put it on the hood of his car, and pointed it at the sky. And then I looked through the scope and he said, I bought that star for you.
Brooke
Oh, that's bought you a star?
Sarah
Yeah. I mean, I looked at it, the certificate with my name on it, and it says the coordinates of it, and it's officially registered with the National Space Registry.
Gary Valenciano
Wow.
Brooke
And what did he name it?
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
The most beautiful star in the universe.
Sarah
He named it Sarah's star.
Alexis
The other one was taken.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
That's Alexis's star.
Jeffrey
That's cute.
Brooke
Much better than a bouquet of flowers. That is unique.
Jeffrey
I'll say. That's pretty wild because that's the first, what, half hour of your date?
Paul
Yeah.
Brooke
What happened?
Sarah
And then he took out some tequila and we cheered. Then we kind of fooled around a little bit.
Jeffrey
Oh, yeah, you did.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Sounds like a great date.
Brooke
What else do you do in the dark area of time? You make out under your own star.
Jeffrey
That's a supernova.
Paul
Wow.
Brooke
This sounds like it's going really, really good.
Sarah
Yeah, I mean, it was the most magical thing. No guy's ever done that for me before. Not even boyfriends. And it was so special.
Jeffrey
I love that all this happened. But were you able to. I know that you felt flattered and cared for, but, like, were you able to connect with him? Like, did you guys talk at all,
Brooke
or did you go somewhere else afterwards? After the star viewing?
Sarah
No, after we were done, he took me home and he said he couldn't wait to see me again. And that's almost 30 days, so I'm hoping you could help me.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
That's why I was such a good day.
Jeffrey
Okay, that is really weird.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
You're on the same page.
Paul
Yes.
Brooke
Especially for a guy who's, like, pouring it on so thickly.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Can't think anything here.
Brooke
Yeah. Is there anything that's going through your mind about maybe something that went wrong?
Sarah
I really can't even think of anything. I thought it wouldn't. Perfect.
Paul
Okay.
Jeffrey
I can't. I just can't imagine a guy having this be his shtick just so he can make out with some girls in a car. You know what I mean?
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Time and work.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
You could do it, though, because, what
Brooke
is it, $20 a star or something like that?
Alexis
Oh, if it's that, then he's for sure. Might be doing it a lot.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Yeah.
Paul
I don't know.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
It's like the west part of the sky.
Jeffrey
I know, but it's not like he stayed the night. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, he didn't try to take advantage. Everything you're saying, it feels like a very sincere interaction.
Brooke
Yes. That's why we are really eager to jump on the phone and help you.
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Brooke
Hopefully track this guy down and you some answers about why he's not meeting up after 30 whole days.
Jeffrey
This is so romantic. It's like written in the stars, Jeff.
Sarah
Oh, no.
Brooke
That's a little cheesy, but I'll take it. We're gonna do it with your second date update right after this. Hold on.
Jeffrey
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update. You're in the middle of a second date update update. And we're gonna find out how the couple is doing right after you hear part two.
Brooke
Brooke, look up in the sky. Do you see it? It's a bird. No, it's a plane.
Jeffrey
What is it, Jeff?
Brooke
No, it's a star I bought for you. Those were the words our listener Sarah heard on her date when Paul surprised her with a star that he'd purchased in her name.
Jeffrey
It's Sarah's star.
Brooke
Sarah's star forever. But ever since that magical date with moonbeams and makeouts and tequila, she has not seen Paul again. And we are here to try and help her find out why.
Jeffrey
And she's given him plenty of time to come around. A full month. A full month has gone by.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Ask you. Have you been hitting him up at all or you're just letting it marinate?
Sarah
Yeah, I mean, we had a couple of back and forth, but I just can't get him out of my head.
Jeffrey
Let's be the bearer of bad news, but stars do die. I don't know if you guys know that.
Brooke
Oh, wow.
Alexis
Wow.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Long time, though.
Jeffrey
We don't know because there's so many light years away. We could be looking at stars that are already dead.
Brooke
Put on your tombstone. We don't need to hear it.
Alexis
Okay?
Brooke
Let somebody else read about it. Sarah, we're optimistic. Some of us are optimistic about this call. But let's see if Paul answers the phone. I'm going to dial his number right now. You ready to do this?
Sarah
Thank you guys so much. Yes, I'm ready.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Okay, here we go. Let's make magic happen.
Paul
Hello?
Brooke
Hey, is Paul there?
Paul
Speaking. Who's this?
Brooke
Hey, man. My name is Jeff from a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Paul
Hey, Paul.
Sarah
Hi.
Jeffrey
Welcome.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Good morning.
Paul
Are you serious?
Jeffrey
Oh, you know the show.
Paul
Absolutely.
Brooke
Well, we appreciate you listening.
Jeffrey
This is awkward.
Brooke
Yeah. If you listen, you probably have heard these before. We do these segments called Second Date Update. Yeah, because someone reached out about you. Somebody that you haven't seen for almost an entire month.
Jeffrey
But, man, did you guys have a romantic night.
Sam J.
Yeah.
Brooke
Her name's Sarah.
Jeffrey
Sarah, like Sarah Star?
Brooke
Yeah. Do you know who we're talking about?
Paul
No, but I know the show.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
What do you mean?
Paul
No, Paul, I always knew that this would come back to bite me, but this is. This would come back.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
What is.
Brooke
What are you talking about?
Paul
All right, look, before I say any more, you guys got to tell me what you know about this.
Sarah
Oh, no.
Alexis
Experience. The whole bit.
Brooke
All right, yeah, we'll play the game. So. So Sarah told us that she went out on, like, the date of a lifetime with you.
Paul
Yeah, she did.
Jeffrey
You don't remember her?
Brooke
She told us that your date together was unlike any other guy she's ever been with. You did something so special for her and took her to a place in the city where you could see the night sky.
Paul
Oh, yeah, exactly. I crushed it.
Jeffrey
Okay, Right. Is this, like, the routine? It's feeling like the routine.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
Paul
Dude, I. It's. I have this dialed in. I know exactly what to do if you tell a girl, hey, I got a surprise for you. And then you print out a certificate, you show them where it is, you get the tequila, and the next thing you know, you're making out.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Brooke
Did you not really buy it?
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
There's a real website to really buy it.
Jeffrey
No, you just Photoshop that certificate. That's what it sounds like.
Brooke
Seriously? You didn't purchase the star?
Jeffrey
Yeah.
Paul
Don't tell anybody. Of course I'm not going to spend 20 bucks for a star. I can get 50 certificates for 15 bucks.
Alexis
I mean, Brooke said they die anyway, so he's kind of smart.
Jeffrey
Okay, why, like, you go on first dates with all these different women for What? What's the.
Paul
My. My goal is to make out with as many women as possible and get as far as I can with as little money and effort as I can pull off.
Jeffrey
Do you have any remorse of, like, leading them on or not?
Paul
How am I leading them on? I said, let's go on on a great date. I got a surprise. I deliver the surprise. I got the tequila. We made out.
Brooke
Paul, you know, you're running your thing and you're happy with it. That's fine. You've said enough, though, because I need you obviously know. Sarah's been on the phone this whole time and she heard everything that you just said.
Paul
What? She's listening. I don't listen to you guys all the time.
Jeffrey
Oh, like you didn't know?
Brooke
Okay. Sarah, are you there?
Jeffrey
Are you okay?
Sarah
Yeah, I'm here, Paul. Like, how could you do that to me?
Paul
Oh, Sarah, I'm so sorry. I had no idea that you were listening.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Oh, no, he feels okay.
Jeffrey
You were just laughing a lot.
Brooke
Paul, he sounds remorseful.
Sarah
You only care that I was.
Paul
Sarah, I feel so terrible about this, and I'm sorry.
Brooke
Oh, well, that's sweet.
Sarah
Of why should I trust you?
Paul
You gotta realize it's the effort that went into it. You know that star that you have has a blue tint, and there's not a lot of those in the universe. And I picked that one specifically because it matches your beautiful eyes.
Brooke
Wow, that is so sweet and thoughtful and not cheated.
Sarah
Sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me, Sarah.
Jeffrey
Don't fall for it again.
Sarah
Can you guys please shut up? I want to hear what he has to say.
Brooke
Stop thinking like a woman and be quiet.
Paul
Yeah, seriously, you guys gotta pipe down, okay?
Jeffrey
Oh, all right, all right. What else do you got to say there, Paul?
Brooke
Yeah, you two talk to each other.
Paul
Sarah. And to be honest, look, And I know 30 days is a long time and I have a good excuse. I do have another surprise for you.
Jeffrey
Oh, no.
Brooke
Really?
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Wow. He's been planning.
Sarah
I don't know if I should believe you.
Jeffrey
No, you shouldn't.
Brooke
Well, let's hear him out.
Jeffrey
Though he didn't even remember her name.
Brooke
He got there.
Paul
As God is my witness, I bought you a moon
Jeffrey
sticky with the same shtick.
Paul
Yeah, can you guys please shut the up? I'm trying to work here.
Brooke
Stop trying to block romance. Yeah, sorry about that, Paul.
Paul
So, Sarah, listen to me, not to them. The reason it took 30 days to get this moon a, it's more expensive. But just dealing with the ins and outs of the International Space Registry. Oh, it's been a complete nightmare, but I finally was able to pull it off. And now you are one of the owners of one of Saturn's moons.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Saturn? Wow.
Brooke
Oh, my God.
Alexis
I feel like his printer just broke for a month.
Brooke
Moons are more rare than stars. Yeah, Talk to her the whole month, though.
Paul
Yeah.
Jeffrey
I don't believe this. Do you?
Sarah
I'm on the fence.
Brooke
Wow.
Paul
Okay.
Jeffrey
Did you just Forget the last 10 minutes of your life?
Sarah
Well, I mean, I believe him that he said that he's done this Many times before with other women, but I. I didn't hear that he's given anybody a moon ever.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Yeah.
Paul
Wow.
Brooke
That's level two.
Paul
Yeah. Sarah, I did that. If you will go with me, I would love to show you that moon on Saturday. And I'll bring the tequila.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Oh, wow.
Jeffrey
So you just need to do another car makeout session on Saturday.
Brooke
He did say that was his goal, so.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Yeah, she heard it.
Jeffrey
Sarah, if you only want a makeout session, I think this is great. Yeah, true.
Sarah
I would like a moon also.
Brooke
Yeah.
Alexis
Hey, doesn't buy them.
Paul
Yeah.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Yeah, she forgets a lot.
Brooke
Maybe in a year you'll get a whole galaxy all in your name.
Jeffrey
It's no longer the Milky Way we live in. It's actually just Sarah's galaxy.
Brooke
Okay, Brooke's just jealous because her husband bought her a dish rack, so let's not take that into consideration.
Paul
I should have had this conversation with just Sarah and I.
Brooke
That is a good point.
Jeffrey
Yeah. Much easier to manipulate her that way.
Brooke
We'll let you have all the conversations that you two want to have if you'll agree to go out with Sarah one more time. Because we would pay for that, Paul.
Jeffrey
It doesn't cost much, Jeff.
Brooke
You're right, Brooke. But it comes with a certificate for the restaurant that we're sending them to.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Oh, you printed that out?
Brooke
Yes, and a dollar sign with the amount of money that's on the card. So pretty official.
Paul
Paul, if you'll say yes, I am 100 on board.
Jeffrey
Oh, right. You may be the first woman in his life that got a dinner.
Brooke
Sarah, you've been pretty quiet for a while.
Jeffrey
Oh.
Brooke
What do you think about going out with Paul again?
Jeffrey
Maybe reality.
Sarah
I would love to.
Jeffrey
What? Oh, my God.
Paul
Yes. You made the best choice, babe. You're going to have such a great.
Jeffrey
That's because he forgot her name again. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

Jeffrey
Wow.
Brooke
And last time, some promises were made that Paul was buying her a moon.
Jeffrey
I bet she owns a galaxy now.
Brooke
Let's find out. Paul, did you get her that moon?
Paul
It was was my intention to get the moon, but unfortunately, I did hit a snack.
Jeffrey
He looked up Zillow for moons and couldn't find one for cell. Wow, Paul, how disappointed are you? Sarah?
Sarah
Yeah, No, I mean, she looked into it, and it turns out most of these are already taken, so.
Jeffrey
Okay. Yeah, I bet they were named Ashley and Amanda.
Sarah
I mean, that was why he was on the wait list right now for a bigger moon.
Brooke
I didn't know.
Paul
Maybe you'd have to tell them about our business. They're not even that interested in it.
Jeffrey
Yeah, that's why we had you call in.
Paul
Yeah, why?
Sarah
They're here. They need to know you are romantic.
Paul
They know we're romantic because we're still together. But we don't have to prove it to them.
Jeffrey
Huh?
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
I mean, you have a point.
Jeffrey
Why Are you so anti us? When you contacted us and give us
Sarah
an update after you aired our episode, a lot of your listeners commented online, said he was scamming me.
Unknown Male (possibly a co-host or caller)
Oh, yeah.
Alexis
Well, did not expect that.
Brooke
Yeah, he was saying some things to us that may have given people red flags, a little bit of an impression. You know how people are judgy.
Jacob Goldstein
Yeah.
Sarah
Oh, yeah. He was just being funny. And we're good. We're together. I believe in him. And we're here to show everyone that they were wrong.
Jeffrey
Okay.
Paul
Okay.
Jeffrey
So you guys are exclusive then?
Sarah
Yeah.
Brooke
Oh, hey.
Jeffrey
That was almost a yes.
Brooke
I believe I only heard from one of them.
Jeffrey
Why did his voice go so high?
Brooke
Well, we're happy to hear that you two are still together. And we wish you all the luck of all the stars and all the galaxies.
Jeffrey
Yeah, and let us know when to look for that moon when you're off that wait list.
Paul
All right, you're my second call.
Chuck
Okay?
Brooke
Okay, sure. All right, Paul. Well, definitely keep us updated. That's your second date. Update, update. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.

This episode delivers a classic “Second Date Update” with a twist—an “update update”—where listeners are caught up not only on the original awkward romance, but also on the fallout and aftermath. The central story follows Sarah, who was left dazzled (and then ghosted) after her date, Paul, gave her the unique gift of a star named after her. The hosts intervene, uncover unexpected truths about Paul’s romantic methods, and invite the couple back for a third segment to see if the spark lasted or fizzled out.
The episode balances humor, skepticism, and empathy, making for an entertaining (and occasionally cringeworthy) look at modern dating tactics.

Comic moments:
The episode is light-hearted, irreverent, and full of banter—the hosts and co-hosts oscillate between playful cynicism and genuine hope for Sarah. Sarah herself is sincere and optimistic, while Paul vacillates between charming and unapologetically manipulative. The episode is peppered with jokes about space-themed dating gifts and light teasing directed at both Sarah’s naivety and Paul’s “creative” efforts.
Listeners are treated to both entertainment and exasperation as the show peels back the romantic gesture of “buying a star”—revealing it as Paul’s go-to, low-effort play for first dates. Despite Paul’s exposed tactics and dubious sincerity, Sarah chooses optimism, and the couple insists that they’re now exclusive. The segment is a fun yet cautionary tale about love, gullibility, and the sometimes ridiculous stunts of modern dating.
