Presented by Elf Beauty, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Hey, thanks for finding the second Date Update podcast. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning, of course, the home of the second date Update. And I know when you think of Valentine's Day and romance, you think of this segment.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah, yeah.
Ashlyn Harris
You think of nothing but people who are being ghosted. Yep. That's right. That's right. That's why we're gonna Do a very special Valentine's Day adv edition of your second date update. It's quite a treat. We love you. Thank you so much for being here. Please comment, subscribe, and just sit back and enjoy the show.
Martin Luther King III
Second date update. Valentine's Day can be a dangerous holiday for a single person to try and meet someone, have someone locked in by then.
Jess Hilarious
You do.
Martin Luther King III
You put a lot of pressure on yourself for it to work. Just look at college aged me in my infamous Valentine's Day massacre.
Jess Hilarious
Oh, boy.
Martin Luther King III
It started with a certain hunky frat boy inviting two lucky ladies to one party and ended with said frat boy drunk, alone in his room, crying and kicking a hole in the ceiling above his top bunk because he struck out with both ladies that night. Oh, yeah. They literally left together.
Ashlyn Harris
Can't imagine why they missed out. Clearly.
Jess Hilarious
Yeah, they did.
Martin Luther King III
Just saying, dating around this particular holiday isn't. It isn't always the best idea. And I'm not really sure how today's caller Reese feels about it. Reese, you have a bunch of holes in your house somewhere right now.
Reese
Not for that reason.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, that's good. That's good. You're not lying on a top bunk of a frat house. You didn't bring a girl back to your frat house.
Martin Luther King III
Only Jeff could have two girls in his room in a frat house and ruin it. Like, that's you already. Mission accomplished, talent. I know.
Ashlyn Harris
Whatever. Anti game. That's him.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Okay, well, you're going a little harsh, a little far, but Reese, you brought it up just to laugh at anyway. Reese, so you went out with a girl pretty close to Valentine's Day. Were you feeling the pressure?
Reese
Not really because I wasn't really thinking about it at that time.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, okay. Okay, okay.
Reese
Basically, the background is I had gone through a pretty rough breakup a few months prior, and I was trying to get back in the game.
Jen
Yeah.
Ashlyn Harris
Good for you.
Reese
Thank you. I met Jen. Her and I matched. And I kind of realized after, like, we sort of clicked and we started. Started talking. Like, I didn't want to wait until after Valentine's Day to ask her out.
Martin Luther King III
Right.
Ashlyn Harris
Because you could totally lose momentum if you wait too long. You got to strike while.
Reese
Right. So I was eager and kind of realizing at that time that it was close to Valentine's Day.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, yeah. Well, as you start to book things and everything's sold out, make a reservation.
Reese
Exactly. And that's why we decided to do something different other than a restaurant. Like, I didn't want to make her feel weird. At a place where there's only couples and stuff like that.
Martin Luther King III
So you invited two girls to one frat party, and that's when the good stuff happened? Don't feel weird. It's just us ladies.
Alec Baldwin
Yeah, and a whole room full of other people.
Ashlyn Harris
Did you call the right show for that to blow up in your face?
Martin Luther King III
You just took out Jen, though, right?
Reese
Yeah, yeah, sorry, sorry.
Ashlyn Harris
We're just making fun of Jeffrey for his past. Not you, man. Not you.
Martin Luther King III
I mean, a certain frat guy was brave enough to invite two at once, but, you know, if you're not brave enough to do it, not a lot are. You accomplished that, bro. Get it. Okay, so where did you and Jen go?
Reese
So she actually suggested a bar. They were having, like, an All Things Pink night.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, that's cute.
Martin Luther King III
What does that mean?
Reese
It's like a Valentine's Day ish. It's like pink clothes, pink drinks, pink food, darling. Yeah. Okay, and so we go in and I excuse myself to the restroom. Quick. And while I'm doing that, she ordered us two pink strawberry daiquiris.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, yeah. Gotta stay on theme.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, sounds good.
Reese
Here's where I messed up is I'm diabetic. She doesn't know I'm diabetic.
Martin Luther King III
Okay.
Reese
I look at the drink and I think to myself, I can handle one. Yeah, you know, my blood sugar is probably gonna spike. Okay, I'll get home, I'll take my insulin, and I'll just monitor the album.
Ashlyn Harris
You will follow it up with a cake to wash it down.
Reese
Well, I miscalculated it.
Ashlyn Harris
Wait, what does that mean?
Reese
Well, I started having an episode.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, no.
Reese
So I needed medical attention. And the thing is, is, like, there was a moment where I couldn't really talk. And I wrote on a napkin and I slid it to Jen, and I slid the word hospital.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, my God. I hate to keep drawing parallels between this and the Valentine's Day massacre at the frat, but it's just. It keeps lighting up.
Ashlyn Harris
You are not diabetic.
Martin Luther King III
No, I'm just saying. Bad experience. The girls left quickly. Dude, that's scary.
Ashlyn Harris
I'd be so scared on a date with someone too. And you don't know what's happening.
Martin Luther King III
What happens?
Ashlyn Harris
Well, she doesn't even know you're diabetic. I'd be so scared.
Reese
Yeah, she doesn't quite understand what the note means, and she references to someone else, and that other person goes, maybe he's epileptic. You should shove a wallet in his mouth.
Ashlyn Harris
What?
Martin Luther King III
What? Oh, so you don't bite Your tongue.
Ashlyn Harris
So I don't.
Reese
Yeah.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, this is a fun Valentine's Day party game. Everybody take your wallets out.
Ashlyn Harris
He's gonna go, hot tip. If you're having a seizure, you usually can't write at the same time.
Reese
Managing to scribble diabetic on a napkin, which then Jen gets and she's gotta drive me to the hospital.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, my God. What a first date experience.
Reese
So things are a little foggy, right? And I kind of come to and I realize, like, all of a sudden she's not there. And I'm surrounded by doctors, and it was a very chaotic night.
Ashlyn Harris
Geez, you poor thing. I'm glad you're okay.
Martin Luther King III
Did you get a kiss at the end of the night?
Ashlyn Harris
He doesn't remember. Maybe by the nurse on his forehead.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, probably not the. Right.
Ashlyn Harris
Yeah.
Reese
The next morning, I send her a te and say, hey, I'm good. I'm so sorry about last night. And she responds back was like, hey, just glad you're all right. And then that's pretty much it. And I haven't heard anything since.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, no.
Ashlyn Harris
Okay. I mean, obviously not like your fault, out of your control. But also really traumatizing for her too, you know?
Martin Luther King III
Think about what she saw. She thinks like, oh, anytime he has one drink, he's gonna need to go to the hospital. I don't want to date a guy like she might have been.
Ashlyn Harris
Anybody would think that. I think she would have more empathy than that. That would be terrible. You could drink ple of other things.
Martin Luther King III
Let's see how empathetic this woman really is. When we give Jen a call, hopefully she picks up and see what she has to say. When we do your Valentine's edition of Second date Update. Right after this second date update, A Valentine's themed date that ends in the hospital for some of us wouldn't be the worst Valentine's that we've ever had.
Ashlyn Harris
Okay, Jeff, get over the night in the frat house.
Martin Luther King III
It was for our listener riot, who was a diabetic and took a chance, drank a pink strawberry daiquiri during his date, thinking that he could handle just one. Fast forward to him being driven to the hospital by his date Jen, where he had to be treated by doctors. It's all kind of a fuzzy experience to him because he was going through an episode.
Ashlyn Harris
You poor thing.
Martin Luther King III
But afterwards, Jen was gone and hasn't responded really to him since. Brooke, you've had worse Valentine's recently, right? Give him a little bit of hope.
Ashlyn Harris
No, honestly, if this girl isn't calling Calling you back because it freaked her out. That is somewhat understandable. But once I feel like she talks to you, she's really going to understand the situation and just have a lot of empathy for you. I can't imagine her not giving you another chance.
Martin Luther King III
How do you feel about that, Reese?
Reese
I feel like if she's got empathy, she would have gone out with me already. And I really don't understand.
Ashlyn Harris
She drove me to the hospital.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, but Alexis, she needs to do more than that. My mom drives me to the hospital and I don't want from my mom what Reese wants from Jen.
Ashlyn Harris
Hopefully it's not adding up. Who knows? Who knows? Maybe it's not the hospital or the diabetes. Maybe you had bad breath and you didn't realize it. You know what I mean?
Martin Luther King III
Maybe in your blackout, drawing on napkins, you were like, show me your boo. You know something and forgot. Do you want us to speculate a hundred more things that could have gone wrong or should we just call this girl? Don't speculate.
Ashlyn Harris
I like where we're going.
Reese
Please call her.
Ashlyn Harris
Okay, good choice. Good, solid.
Martin Luther King III
Let's dial Jen. We'll see if she answers. You just sit tight there. Here we go.
Jen
Hello?
Martin Luther King III
Hey, is this Jen?
Jen
Yes, speaking.
Martin Luther King III
Hey, Jen. This is a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. How are you doing?
Jen
Oh, yeah, I'm. I'm okay. How are you guys?
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, thanks for asking, Jen. Usually people aren't that polite. We're very.
Martin Luther King III
Well, it was kind of an empathetic move there.
Ashlyn Harris
It was. Oh, good point, Jeff.
Martin Luther King III
So that's. That's good news for you, Jen.
Jen
What's. What's a radio station calling me?
Martin Luther King III
Okay, I'll give you five guesses.
Ashlyn Harris
No, no.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, okay. That was unfair. Ten guesses.
Ashlyn Harris
He's just gonna tell you right now.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, well, that's not fun. Okay, sure, he will take the joy out of it. This is called Second date Update and we're trying to help out one of our listeners that you went out on a date with recently named Reese.
Ashlyn Harris
Hey. Very memorable night.
Jen
Yeah. Rhys.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, yeah.
Jen
Oh my God.
Ashlyn Harris
Yeah, dude, it sounds like that night was crazy.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah.
Jen
Oh, okay, great. You got the rundown?
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, we spoke to him a little bit just to get a snapshot of what happened that night and he told us that you're not really responding for another date at all. And he doesn't really understand why.
Jen
Well, yeah, I mean, I'm not answering him back. That's accurate.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, I see. Do you hate diabetics? Is that what's going on? No, I've had a few of those people answer this carefully.
Jen
Oh, my gosh. No, it literally nothing to do with that. I don't hate people who have diabetes. I hate people who have girlfriends already.
Martin Luther King III
Girlfriends?
Ashlyn Harris
Wait, what did you just say?
Martin Luther King III
What?
Jen
I hate people who already have girlfriends.
Martin Luther King III
He doesn't have a girlfriend.
Ashlyn Harris
Well, he didn't ask him.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, but he wouldn't come on here and be like, oh, call this.
Ashlyn Harris
Wait, really?
Martin Luther King III
Are you saying came out of nowhere?
Ashlyn Harris
You're saying that he's in a relationship? You think?
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Why do you think that?
Jen
Okay, well, if he gave you the rundown, I'm assuming he told you that I took him to the hospital, right?
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, because he was having an episode and you were like his savior and insulin.
Jen
Yes, I was his savior, but somebody else was his emergency contact, I guess because I'm sitting in the reception area, and this woman comes in and she's asking for Reese. She's saying that she's his emergency contact. She's saying that she's his girlfriend, and they took her back there to see him.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, okay. That okay, objectively looks really bad, but.
Jen
Yeah.
Martin Luther King III
The thing is, obviously we don't know everything about recent his situation.
Ashlyn Harris
Maybe there was another Reese having a different diabetic. It's like a job application where my past boss is really my best friend.
Martin Luther King III
I don't think it's like those things, but do you remember when we first talked to me, he mentioned that he went through a bad breakup with somebody a little while back. Oh, I forgot. Maybe it's his, like, ex girlfriend who's. Who's listed as his girlfriend, and he hasn't changed his info. Like, how often do you update your emergency contact? Stuff like that?
Ashlyn Harris
Possible.
Martin Luther King III
I mean, we don't know. The thing is, we could ask Reese right now because he's been on the phone this whole time listening.
Jen
What the heck?
Ashlyn Harris
Well, I think that this is something he actually needs to hear.
Jen
That's annoying.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, it could give us a little bit of clarity. Rhys, are you there?
Reese
Yeah. Hi, Jen.
Jen
Hi, Reese.
Dan Aykroyd
Uh.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, Reese.
Reese
So I guess I was just wondering what's going on. Why haven't you gotten back with me?
Ashlyn Harris
Are you serious, dude? Why are you not coming in and saying, I'm sorry, there's a misunderstanding.
Martin Luther King III
Let me clear it up?
Reese
I mean, do we really have to talk about that?
Martin Luther King III
It's pretty important to her, and I think to all of our listeners at this point.
Ashlyn Harris
Are you in a relationship?
Reese
Okay, look, so here, like, yes, but what the.
Ashlyn Harris
You Just said you broke up with your ex and you were heartbroken, and you're finally back in the dating pool.
Martin Luther King III
Yes.
Reese
Yeah, I mean, when you. When you do stuff on the radio, I mean, you might say a lot of stuff.
Martin Luther King III
What? No. You're trying to make yourself look good, bro.
Ashlyn Harris
You're using us to cheat Jen. I kind of feel like his girlfriend might know, though.
Martin Luther King III
Just say it was your ex girlfriend, and we're good. Jeff, you were lying. You were just joking. Again, if it's radio, you saying girlfriend.
Ashlyn Harris
I'm sorry.
Jen
This is very messy, very sloppy, sloppy work. Yeah, y'all should have vetted him.
Reese
Like, okay, Jen, like, yes, I'm in a relationship, but I'm not happy, and I want to see what was out there before you break up with this.
Jen
Feels like your hole is getting dug deeper and deeper, man. I'm sorry.
Reese
Yeah, I guess. So, Jenny, I mean, does this ruin our chances?
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, Reese, you've kind of created a big mess for yourself, so I don't know what it is that you want to say to Jen, but.
Reese
All right, look, I'm just saying, Jen, like, I'm not happy, and I feel like if you want to have, like, an actual Valentine's Day together, like, we can do that. We can have, like, a legit.
Jen
You're just a big walking red flag.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, like Valentine's.
Jen
You got a free ambulance ride, and let's just chalk it up to that. Okay. You got lucky.
Martin Luther King III
Are you saying that him telling you how sad he is doesn't make you want to date him right now?
Jen
It really is. It's tugging at my heartstrings.
Ashlyn Harris
That was sarcasm, Jeff.
Martin Luther King III
Well, yeah.
Ashlyn Harris
Dude, why. Why don't you just break up with your girlfriend? I don't understand this.
Martin Luther King III
Some people don't want to be. I don't.
Reese
I don't know that I want to do that either.
Ashlyn Harris
Oh, my God.
Jen
You're the worst.
Martin Luther King III
I.
Jen
You know what? I'm almost regretting taking him to the hospital.
Martin Luther King III
It's a little far, Jen. Although we understand the sentiment.
Ashlyn Harris
Somebody would have called an ambulance. Okay, so are you worried that your girlfriend's gonna hear this, or does she know?
Reese
I. I'm not worried yet.
Martin Luther King III
Because the thing. Jen could be his new girlfriend if she says yes to this question. He have two girls in his room? Like someone I know did one time. I'm telling you, it works for the frag guys.
Ashlyn Harris
The girls were never in Jeff's room.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, but bottom line, Jen, is we would love to pay. Not love, but we will. We'll pay. We'll pay for the second date with Reese. And that's funny. Our boss is alike.
Ashlyn Harris
Yeah.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah.
Jen
Come on. And it's like, it's a not a no. It's a hell no.
Ashlyn Harris
Good choice.
Martin Luther King III
Did not see that coming. Blindsided by that one, I'm sure. At least you have a backup. You can always go back to your girlfriend. Plan B is his girlfriend. That's curious. I don't know. Inviting two girls into the studio. Now look at Jeffrey in the morning. Man, I thought I knew what cheat voice sounded like, because he did. He didn't have cheater voice, but I was totally wrong. Dude, I was fooled.
Ashlyn Harris
I was, too.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah.
Ashlyn Harris
So, like, nice.
Martin Luther King III
That's how good cheaters are. But you know what? Give him some points, Brooke, because he was honest. At least admitted that he had a girlfriend after he got exposed. He admitted it, though. He got there, got to the honesty.
Ashlyn Harris
You think he went home and was honest with his girlfriend suddenly? I doubt it, Jeff.
Martin Luther King III
Who cares about that? He was honest with us, and yet he was still trying to go out with Jen even afterwards. See, it's that type of chutzpah that if I had back at the frat house, things would have turned out so much differently that night.
Ashlyn Harris
Yeah.
Dan Aykroyd
What?
Martin Luther King III
You're crying? Hey, before you ladies leave, are you.
Reese
Are you sure?
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Instead of the Valentine's Day massacre, could have been the Valentine's Day rodeo for me, but I don't think so. Missed opportunity. You can still do it.
Ashlyn Harris
Jeff, do not admire to be this dude. Yeah, please.
Martin Luther King III
It's fine. Let's get some pointers out there, Jeff. Yeah, I'll admire somebody else that calls in to get a second date update. Email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back and go check out all of ours. They're available up on podcast wherever you get yours. Yeah. At BrookeandJeffrey, home of the second date update.
Ashlyn Harris

Podcast Summary: Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update – "V-Day Pass Out"
Episode Title: Second Date Update: V-Day Pass Out
Release Date: February 14, 2025
Host/Author: iHeartPodcasts
In this Valentine’s Day special episode of "Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update," hosts Brooke and Jeffrey delve into the often tumultuous journey of modern dating. The episode centers around the story of a listener named Reese, whose Valentine’s Day date took an unexpected and dramatic turn, leading to him being ghosted by his date, Jen. The hosts aim to uncover the real reasons behind Jen’s sudden disappearance and explore the complexities that can arise during romantic pursuits.
At the core of the episode is Reese’s Valentine's Day experience, which began with optimism but quickly spiraled into chaos. Reese recounts meeting Jen online and feeling a strong connection, prompting him to ask her out before Valentine's Day to maintain the momentum.
Reese [04:04]: "I was eager and kind of realizing at that time that it was close to Valentine's Day."
Choosing a unique venue over the typical restaurant setting, Reese and Jen decided to attend an "All Things Pink" night at a local bar, embracing the Valentine's theme with pink attire and themed drinks.
Jen [05:29]: "She suggested a bar. They were having, like, an All Things Pink night. It's like pink clothes, pink drinks, pink food, darling."
However, the evening took a drastic turn when Reese, unaware that he is diabetic, indulged in a pink strawberry daiquiri. This decision led to a medical emergency, causing him to experience a diabetic episode.
Reese [05:58]: "Here's where I messed up is I'm diabetic. She doesn't know I'm diabetic."
Attempting to manage the situation discreetly, Reese wrote "hospital" on a napkin and handed it to Jen. Unfortunately, Jen misinterpreted the note, believing Reese might be epileptic and responding with confusion rather than immediate assistance.
Jen [07:12]: "Maybe he's epileptic. You should shove a wallet in his mouth."
The chaotic night culminated with Reese being rushed to the hospital, leaving Jen to navigate the aftermath on her own.
The following morning, Reese reached out to Jen to apologize and explain the incident.
Reese [08:00]: "The next morning, I send her a text saying, 'Hey, I'm good. I'm so sorry about last night.' And she responds back was like, 'Hey, just glad you're all right.' And then that's pretty much it. And I haven't heard anything since."
Feeling abandoned and confused by Jen’s lack of response, Reese sought clarity from Brooke and Jeffrey, hoping to understand why Jen chose to ghost him despite her apparent efforts to help during the emergency.
Determined to get answers, Brooke and Jeffrey decide to reach out to Jen directly on the air. The conversation reveals unexpected and complicated truths about Jen’s feelings and Reese’s personal life.
Jen [12:07]: "I hate people who already have girlfriends."
This revelation shocks Reese and the hosts, uncovering that Jen is already in a relationship, which complicates the dynamics of their encounter. Jen clarifies that her decision to ghost Reese has nothing to do with his diabetes but rather her existing commitment to another person.
Jen [12:15]: "People who have girlfriends already."
This twist highlights the tangled web that can develop in dating scenarios, where prior commitments and misunderstandings can lead to unforeseen complications.
Throughout the episode, Brooke and Jeffrey offer their perspectives on the importance of honesty and clear communication in dating. They emphasize that while Reese’s intentions were genuine, failing to disclose his medical condition and existing relationship status contributed to the unfortunate outcome.
Brooke: "If she has empathy, she would have gone out with me already. And I really don't understand."
Jeffrey: "You're just a big walking red flag."
The hosts also reflect on Reese’s experience as a cautionary tale for listeners, urging them to be transparent and considerate of others' circumstances to foster healthier and more successful relationships.
In conclusion, the episode "V-Day Pass Out" serves as both an entertaining and educational exploration of the unpredictable nature of dating. Reese’s story underscores the significance of transparency and the complexities that can arise when personal issues intersect with romantic pursuits. Brooke and Jeffrey aim to provide listeners with relatable content that not only entertains but also imparts valuable lessons on navigating the modern dating landscape.
Jeffrey: "You just took out Jen, though, right?"
Brooke: "He was honest with us, and yet he was still trying to go out with Jen even afterwards."
The episode wraps up with a light-hearted note, encouraging listeners to share their own stories and seek guidance through future Second Date Updates.
This Valentine's Day episode of "Brooke and Jeffrey: Second Date Update" masterfully blends humor with heartfelt storytelling, offering listeners an engaging narrative filled with relatable challenges and unexpected revelations. By dissecting Reese’s experience, the hosts shed light on the intricate dance of dating, where intentions meet reality, often leading to memorable and life-altering moments.
