Welcome to Brunch and Bible, where we navigate womanhood through the Word. I'm your host, Heaven, and this is more than a podcast, it's a movement. At Brunch and Bible, women gather, grow spiritually, embrace the complexities of life through work driven discussions, and find practical applications for their own journeys. Today we're deep diving into a crucial faulty foundations. Sometimes the things we've built our lives on, sometimes social media relationships or personal accolades and accomplishments aren't as solid as we think. But here's the good news. God calls us to build on him and his truth. So let's talk about it. What are the cracks in our foundation and how do we rebuild on Christ the solid rock? Get ready for some real honest conversation. Let's get into it. Welcome everyone to another episode of of Brunch and Bible. And today we are talking about building our house. And today I'm not alone. I have a special guest here and her name is Olamide. My sweet sister in the Lord. And Olamide, we're so excited to hear from you today. She is an amazing, powerful woman of God. She's a worshiper and she has a lot of deep insight when it comes to the things of God. And so I'm just super excited that first you accepted my invitation and that you're here to talk to us today. We're just going to get right into it, right? The Lord had been ministering to me about the importance of the foundation of a thing, right? And when you look at scripture, Matthew 7, 24, 27, I want us to look at it together. And those of you who are watching, the Bible says, therefore, who, whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these things of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it fell. And great was its fall. Let's talk about it. Yep, foundations. Okay, first off, what is our foundation as Christian women? You know, we talk about foundation, we see all these things about foundation in scripture, but what is actually our foundation? What are we talking about here?
B
Thank you so much, heaven, for having me. Honestly, I cannot start without saying that I'm so honored to be here. Thank you so much. And you know Our foundation is simple. I believe as Christians we should not over complicate things. Our foundation is just Jesus. So that means if you believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that means your foundation is Jesus Christ. But here is the twitch. You know, when I got this topic I'm like oh, amazing woman of the spirit. Because I happen to have a dad who is into construction businesses and what it means when you build a foundation, it's, it's like the most important part of the building.
A
Building process. Right.
B
I would, I've followed my dad to site construction site a couple of times and you would, it would tell me that olamide. If you want to build a bungalow, the kind of iron rod you will use is different for buildings that requires elevators. Like maybe you have like a 20 story building. It's just different. So that means the foundation might look, it might not look cute because it's not. No painting work, no hard work, no marble nothing. But it's, it's looking so rough. However, that's the most important aspect.
A
Yeah.
B
Of the all work. So as, as Christians we have to pay attention to the foundation. So that means based on where I'm going in life, my foundation might be different. All right, so if I'm going to is that skyrocket building then if you're going to bungalow. I'm sorry, the way we are going yield would be different. I would want to go for stronger pillars. I want to, you know, go for maybe stronger mapping out. Because I realized also that the architect of a particular construction work would do some mapping out from the foundation.
A
Yeah.
B
So that means however you want the structure to, to look like from the beginning, you have to map it out intentionally. So that means there's a lot of calculation, there's a lot of maths that will go into it to make sure and say, hey, this is where the living area would be. This is where the bedroom would be. So you don' just build whatever or just put them on the surface. And I also realized that you don't just lay the blocks or the bricks on the surface of the ground. It has to go down.
A
Yeah.
B
Because it must be able to withstand things. And, and, and you know, just not to get ahead of ourselves. I'll just say basically your foundation is Jesus Christ. However, there might be some difference when it comes to where you're going in life based on what Jesus has told you. Being the architect of our life. Yep.
A
Guys, this is just the first like three minutes of the episode. I just want us to know that we're just getting started. Yes, absolutely. And, you know, I actually did some research, too. And what is so crazy about this, guys, is that she just told me right before, like, we started this episode that her dad is into construction. When I reached out to her, I had no clue of this. So we see the spirit of God at work already. But, you know, just in case your dad wasn't a construction worker, I had already, you know, looked into, you know, what it would take to, you know, lay the foundation of a simple building. Right? And I looked into some research, and it said, I want to read off a few things. It says that the foundation bears the strain of the heavy load. It says it withstands storm damages and protects the building from flooding. It provides insulation, and it keeps the integrity, you know, of the building. And what I'm noticing nowadays is that, you know, we are walking around, especially as Christian women, but our foundations are weak. And the Bible says, you know, in Psalms 11, verse 3, that if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? And, you know, that means that it doesn't matter, you know, how well you feel like you're serving or how well you feel like you're consistent or whatever the case may be. If your foundation is weak, there is literally quite nothing that you can do. And so I just want us to get into the next question. We talked. We talked a little bit about this already, but the importance, you know, of building a strong foundation, which is the pinnacle is Jesus Christ. The importance as a woman, you know, in our walks with Christ, what is the exact importance of making sure that our foundation is strong?
B
Yep, yep, yep. So for me, I. I will start with a very funny question to you, Evan. Okay, so which is, do you think the devil can actually outrightly come to you and say, heaven, stop going to church? No, no, because it would. It would already have that answer of your pastor level. But the devil would not come and say, heaven, don't go to church. It would probably just bring something. There might be a job. And the job gradually takes people out of God's presence. The importance of building your strong foundation would be it gives you a level of conviction. You see, as believers, we must concentrate on. On getting our convictions right and so strong. Because it is your conviction that would, you know, keep you from falling.
A
Yes.
B
So that means when we look at ourselves and you're like, there is nothing that will take me out of this part. You have a price. The devil has not offered it yet. It is your conviction that would now keep you from falling. When the devil offers you that price. And when you catch yourself thinking about it for a second and you're like, oh, my goodness, did I just think about going for this? And you're like, no, we are coming back. So now let me give an example that would probably, you know, resonate with us. Now, Jesus Christ actually fed 5,000 people men now with bread. Right. The same Jesus was confronted by the devil to say, hey, turn the stones to bread. Why didn't he do it? What's the difference? It's the fact that that was not in the will of the Father. He was not meant to prove a point to the devil by saying, oh, yes, I can do this. However, it was needful at that point when he actually fed people with bread. So now we have to get to that point where our conviction to be able to tell us the difference between the will of God and you just outrightly doing something that is good. So that means when we are talking about the importance of actually building your foundation is to the end, that you're able to tell the difference between something that is good and something that is the will of the Father.
A
Wow.
B
Because as believers, you would always. You will get to a point in your life that the devil will no longer. Sorry, please. The devil will no longer test you with stealing or say, go kill someone.
A
Right.
B
The devil will just bring something that is. It's just. It's just this. Just go ahead. Yeah. So you being able to tell the difference between, yes, this is good, but it is not the will of God.
A
And, you know, I love something that you said. I don't even know if you knew where you were going with this one, but it resonated deeply with me that the enemy will come with little things. Yep. And when you think about a building. Right. That has a weak foundation, it will sustain itself for a period of time.
B
Yep.
A
And then there's that one day after so long that the building crumbles.
B
Yep.
A
And so it's never going to be an outright thing like, oh, you know, go and kill somebody, or go. But it's the little thing that he comes to tempt you with. And over time, if your foundation is not strong, that house is gonna fall.
B
Yeah.
A
I love that so much.
B
Yeah. Yeah. And I'm beginning to wonder if we would ask ourselves, because at the end of the day, I want people listening to us to know, how then do you build this foundation? If we have, you know, actually said it outrightly that Jesus is our foundation. But, you know, from my reflection for my reference in the other, I think it was in the intro where I was talking about the. The way you build the foundation for a bungalow will be different from, you know, a 20 story building. So I feel like there are. People will be wondering, how do I go about it?
A
Yeah, yeah.
B
Do you want us to go right into that? Let's go into that.
A
And you know, actually I want us. I wanted to talk. I wanted us to talk about that specifically because when I was preparing for this, you know, even before we get to laying the foundation, we know that the foundation is fundamental. Right. But even before we get to laying the foundation, you have to clear the soil. And I'm like, lord, what does that mean, clear the soil? Like, and it's the process of removing the things that would obstruct the foundation and removing the weeds. And that really has to do with the posture of our heart. I believe it has to do with the posture of our heart. Making sure that our heart is malleable, making sure that our heart is ready to receive, you know, the word of God and the things of God. So that when that foundation is laid, it's strong and it can go deep.
B
Yeah.
A
Do you have anything for that?
B
Yeah. We need to understand that at the point of salvation, what gets changed immediately is your spirit, man. And it is our responsibility to then work on our soul and our mind. And that's why Apostle Paul was talking to the church and he was saying that work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Now we would know that what he was talking about was not the gift of salvation there in terms of righteousness. Of course, that was given to us freely. But what he was talking about is how that you build. You know, there's a part in scriptures also says that that build up yourself on your most holy faith. Praying in the Holy Ghost, the Greek word for that, build near talks about you building an edifice. So it's more like it's like a building that you're raising and erecting for the world to see. And there's a way to go about that so that as cliche as it may sound, what it takes to make sure that all these things that might look like weeds are out of the way is just you giving yourself to God's word and prayer. Consistently. You say emphasis on the word consistently. You see, people think you can do it. One off. I just want to pray one off. And please, even to make noodles, you spent some minutes doing that. You don't just run into God's presence and you're running out. There's a part of you staying because that staying power then begins to take things out. So I, I love to give this example a lot. If you have ever spoken to somebody who is given to a lot of pornography and at the point of salvation, the memory doesn't. Doesn't run away.
A
Right.
B
It's there, they are saved. Right. But it takes something to get it out of their mind. And that is God's word. And it's not something that will happen in a day. It's something that you give yourself to over time. And you just see yourself, okay, I longer remember these things. Where did they go? And that is the power of God's word. And it's along the line how when you were talking about, you know, clearing the heart, you know, clearing the soul and all of that, it along the line that God give you begins to give you some level of consecration such that everything might be lawful, but not everything is expedient for me, based off where I'm going in life.
A
And you know, what I. What I love about what you said is that consistently. And it takes time. Yeah. And it's not going to happen overnight. And you know what's very interesting is that when you look at buildings being built, they don't happen overnight. You cannot take. Come up with a blueprint, an architectural blueprint today and have a building tomorrow. And, you know, a lot of the times what you see is the foundation.
B
Takes the longest time. Yes.
A
Tell me the longest time. You know, there was a building near my house that I felt like they were working on for months, and I'm like, what is this thing going to be done? And then all of a sudden, one day, everything was just, you know, built up. And I feel like we can equate that to our spiritual life, especially as women that give yourself time to build your house, build your foundation, because when you rush through it again, the foundation is weak and it will not be able to sustain itself for the long run. And I think, you know, we as women, sometimes we like instant gratification.
B
Yeah.
A
We like results.
B
We like to see.
A
You know, sometimes they talk about on social media, you've been to the gym once and tomorrow I know you're like.
B
What'S that tell you?
A
Trying to see what most muscles are not and are popping. And I feel like as women, we don't give ourselves time to build that foundation. And we build our foundation on so many other things apart from what you said, prayer, reading the word, really seeking the face of God and who Jesus is. And out of that knowledge will flow everything you need for your Christian walk and want us to talk about one thing. What are some things that you feel like the modern day woman has built their foundation on? You know, it talks about in that parable, the wise man and the foolish man, they built their house upon the sand. What can be considered sand for those who are watching and want to know and assess their foundation? Right? What is considered sand?
B
You know, for me, sand can be your career. Because, you know, we are transitioning from a century that did not really value women in the career space. And we are now getting into the century that is like women must do this, must do that. If you're not careful, you will think that your being is made by the virtue of what you're into in terms of career, interval, in terms of education. But this is a part where I want every woman listening to me to actually pay attention to is that you have to know, know Jesus for yourself and actually make sure that your life is found in him. Your identity is first in him. So I tell people, I, I, I'm a person of excellence. I want whatever you're doing should be done excellently, right? If it is. If you tell me, let us sweep this place, let us do it excellently. That is my mindset. But I tell people first that my identity first is in Christ, all right? Other things will follow. And it is not alien that I am excellent because the excellence spirit is inside of me. So that is why I must be excellent. So if you're not careful as a woman, you might think what makes you a woman is the fact that I'm a lawyer. I am this, I can, I mean, I, I've been to this place, I'm at TED Talk, I'm at this. Hello, Hello. The devil comes with things that were ephemeral, things could not undo. You just see yourself crumbling because your foundation was not rooted in Christ. So let me tell you this. So last year was like last year would be a year I would call a solid year. For me, in the sense that I had a lot of challenges like it was, it was as though before I got out of one, one year, I'm like, what in the world is happening here? What is going on? What is going on? But before that time, you know, there was a phrase that God gave me. He gave me the phrase called, it will soon be a throwback and you will rejoice. And you know, that line is not a scripture. But it kept me going because in moments where you would have to cry and think about it, the next thing is that it will soon be a Throwback. And I tell you that today, everything is a throwback. And, you know, along the line, I realized that the things that I had fed my mind upon in times back kept me going. Last year, I knew that me standing last year wasn't as a result of what I was doing in the present. It was as a result of what I had done in the past.
A
Foundation.
B
All right, so. And at that point, when I needed to lay back or lay hold of things, it wasn't my career. My career was nowhere to be found in these things I was talking about. I had to just hold on to Christ, hold on to God's word. And that was my uncle trail. So some. Some people might be replace, replacing, you know, Jesus for their career. They might be replacing Jesus for social media, you know, trying to get a lot of, you know, validation online. You want to be everywhere you want to. You want to be that woman that is bossy, cheeky or whatever, baddie. What do they call it these days? Jesus body. You're just everywhere trying to, you know, follow the numb. The. The trend. I love women that would build or set the pace for us. I mean, why are you there jumping on every trend? Why not set the trends and let everybody follow? Because at the end of the day, you are here and there and you're nowhere. So the devil is even confused on your behalf because the devil is like, why is this person owning up to another person's purpose? You're here, you are there, and you were nowhere. So I. I feel for me, sand would be career. Could be social media. Could be you seeking validation from the world.
A
I want us to park at social media. Okay, well, family, that was the end of the first episode of Build. You'd house faulty foundations. Catch us in part two.
Brunch N' Bible: "Build Your House (Faulty Foundations Pt. 1)" feat. Olamide Ogundele
Host: Heaven Kore
Guest: Olamide Ogundele
Release Date: February 25, 2025
The episode opens with Heaven Kore welcoming listeners to another empowering session of Brunch N' Bible. She sets the stage for a deep exploration of the concept of foundational integrity in a Christian woman's life. Emphasizing the metaphor of building a house, Heaven introduces the episode's focus on identifying and rectifying "faulty foundations" that many women unknowingly rely upon, such as social media relationships and personal achievements. The central scripture guiding the discussion is Matthew 7:24-27, which contrasts the wise builder who constructs on a rock with the foolish one who builds on sand.
Notable Quote:
"God calls us to build on Him and His truth. So let's talk about it. What are the cracks in our foundation and how do we rebuild on Christ the solid rock?"
— Heaven Kore [00:00]
Heaven introduces Olamide Ogundele, lauding her as a "powerful woman of God" with profound insights into spiritual matters. Olamide brings a unique perspective grounded in her father's construction business, drawing parallels between physical building foundations and spiritual ones.
Notable Quote:
"Our foundation is just Jesus. So that means if you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that means your foundation is Jesus Christ."
— Olamide Ogundele [02:48]
Olamide delves into the technical aspects of construction to illustrate the significance of a solid foundation. She explains that different buildings require different types of foundations based on their intended use, much like how a Christian woman's foundation should be adaptable yet steadfast in Christ. The conversation underscores that neglecting the foundation leads to eventual collapse, regardless of outward appearances or achievements.
Notable Quotes:
"As Christians, we have to pay attention to the foundation... how you're going is going to determine the strength of your foundation."
— Olamide Ogundele [04:00]
"If your foundation is weak, that house is gonna fall."
— Heaven Kore [10:18]
Heaven and Olamide discuss the preliminary steps before laying a foundation, likening them to clearing the soil in construction. This involves cleansing one's heart and soul to remove obstacles that could compromise the foundation's integrity. Heaven emphasizes the importance of a malleable heart ready to receive God's word.
Notable Quote:
"Clear the soil has to do with the posture of our heart. Making sure that our heart is malleable, making sure that our heart is ready to receive, you know, the word of God."
— Heaven Kore [12:07]
Olamide highlights the necessity of consistent prayer and engagement with Scripture as the means to fortify one's foundation. She references Apostle Paul's exhortation to "work out your salvation with fear and trembling," explaining that while salvation is a gift, maintaining a strong foundation requires diligent personal effort.
Notable Quote:
"You give yourself to God's word and prayer consistently. It's not something that will happen in a day."
— Olamide Ogundele [13:42]
The discussion shifts to identifying what modern Christian women often build their lives upon, which, akin to sand, lacks permanence and stability. Olamide points out careers, social media validation, and the pursuit of accolades as common substitutes for a Christ-centered foundation. She warns against allowing these ephemeral pursuits to overshadow one's identity in Christ.
Notable Quotes:
"Sand would be career. Could be social media. Could be you seeking validation from the world."
— Olamide Ogundele [19:08]
"If you're not careful, you will think that your being is made by the virtue of what you're into in terms of career, in terms of education... your identity is first in Him."
— Olamide Ogundele [19:09]
Heaven draws an analogy between the slow, meticulous process of laying a physical foundation and the often rushed approach to spiritual growth. She cautions against seeking immediate results, emphasizing that true, lasting stability in one's spiritual life is achieved through patience and sustained effort.
Notable Quote:
"You cannot take a blueprint today and have a building tomorrow... you give yourself time to build your house, build your foundation."
— Heaven Kore [14:46]
Olamide discusses how a strong foundation in Christ equips believers to resist subtle temptations that may seem harmless but can erode spiritual stability over time. She uses Jesus' response to the devil's temptation to illustrate how aligning actions with God's will strengthens one's resolve against enduring spiritual threats.
Notable Quotes:
"It gives you a level of conviction... that keeps you from falling when the devil offers you that price."
— Olamide Ogundele [07:21]
"You will get to a point in your life that the devil will test you with stealing or say, go kill someone... he will bring something minor, just go ahead, anything."
— Olamide Ogundele [09:25]
Olamide shares a personal testimony from the previous year, describing it as a period of significant challenges that tested her foundational integrity. She credits her steadfastness to her deep-seated foundation in Christ, which enabled her to navigate through trials without compromising her spiritual identity.
Notable Quote:
"Everything is a throwback. And, you know, along the line, I realized that the things that I had fed my mind upon in times back kept me going."
— Olamide Ogundele [19:09]
As the episode wraps up, both Heaven and Olamide reinforce the paramount importance of building one's life on the unshakable foundation of Jesus Christ. They caution against the allure of superficial achievements and societal validations, urging women to prioritize their spiritual growth and identity in Christ to ensure enduring stability and resilience.
Final Quote:
"You were nowhere and everywhere... so the devil is even confused on your behalf because you are here and there and you're nowhere."
— Olamide Ogundele [20:24]
Heaven concludes by teasing the continuation of the discussion in the next episode, promising to delve deeper into practical steps for building a strong spiritual foundation.
This episode serves as a crucial reminder for Christian women to evaluate the foundations upon which they are building their lives, encouraging a deliberate and Christ-centered approach to personal and spiritual development.
