Bubba on the lake. Yeah. Gotta come and check this. Talking people, talking places. From Bubba's perspective. This is Bubba, Bubba, Bubba, Bubba. Bubba on the lake. Hey, Bubba, Bubba, Bubba. Bubba on the lake. Let's go.
David Nassar
Bubba on the lake. I like it. I love it. I want more of it. Hey, Bubba, this is Colonel Benefield. You let me know if I need to come out of retirement and work another target package with you. Keep rocking, baby. Benefield out.
Bubba
Hey, Bubba, this is Josh and Gadsden.
David Nassar
The country you're trying to say is Kyrgyzstan. Some people say Kyrgyzstan, former USSR over by China. I've been over there about five times now on mission trips with our church. There's actually some people that are missionaries over there in Gadsden. From Gadsden and from Birmingham. So it could be those people. Yep. But it's good, good people over there. Pray for the country. 99.9% Muslim country. So, you know, they. They are in that window where they. They are definitely need missionaries. So just. It's Kyrgyzstan. Just wanted to share that. Appreciate it. Hey, Bubba, this is Sherry outside of Madison, Alabama. I was calling to tell you I enjoy your show. I love when your family's there. Your interaction is. I know y' all love each other, but I think y' all. Y' all take for granted what each other's going to say a little bit. And your listeners don't always know all the ins and outs. I love more when you interview other people, so I would encourage you to do that also. I signed up on your webpage for notifications, and I'm not sure what day.
Bubba
Your.
David Nassar
Podcast post, but my notification came Thursday at 12. So if that's late, then that might be one reason people aren't getting it on the day you post. Hey, Bubba, longtime listener here, David from Hoover. Give a Blazers, Blazers and a Blazers to you. Loving the new podcast, Bubba on the Lake and everything you guys are doing. My family's got our lake house fixed up and rebuilt over in the Rio island area, so we're back at it full time and would just love to see you and Miss Betty Lou out on the lake, maybe even Coach Pearl. Maybe catch you at church in the Pines or over at Herbs. Place the landing at Parker Creek for some good times. So keep up the good work and we'll see out on the water. Hey, Bubba, this is Pam. My husband and I were discussing the other day about one word to describe Bubba and we decided it would have to be kind. Your kindness show was showing through on that other show and it's showing through on your show. Like for you and Betty Lou to have a meet and greet at that restaurant near your lake, Martin, that would be great. Thanks.
Bubba
Bubba. I think we all know something that.
David Nassar
You can do to send your ratings through the roof.
Bubba
It's the interview that we all want, the update of all updates live and in studio with Willie and Wanda. And hey, I bet they would love to wait because they never been nowhere.
David Nassar
Well, hello again everybody and welcome to Bubba on the Lake. I'm your semi retired, mostly washed up host, formerly the Rick and Bubba show, and I want to welcome you. Of course, we're broadcasting from the Melayella studio and our website is bubbaonthelate.com and you can email me at bubba@bubbaonthelate.com we also have the message line, you just heard some of those pearls of wisdom right there as we begin the show. 308, Big Lake. You're always welcome to call and leave a message. Some of those will make it to air, some will not. But always entertaining. Had several great comments there. I'm glad we got the Kurdistan thing worked out. We have added to the list of countries listing this week, Kazakhstan. So we had Kurdistan and now Kazakhstan or something like that. Okay. That's as close as I can get to saying it, but we appreciate them listening. And we're going to cover the fact that we've got a lot going on in the news here. We've had a major military strike against the nuclear facilities of the country of Iran, the former Persian Mede empire, if you will. And we have had some of the wildest speculation going on the past week or so as the Israelis have taken on that. And now the US has joined that battle with the bunker busting bombs to take out that nuclear site. I want to point out, I know, strange to me that this somehow becomes political at times, but every president and I could play you the sound bite. Joe Biden, George Bush, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, even Hillary Clinton, Daddy Bush, you name it. Every US President has stood up and said we will not let the Iranians get a nuclear weapon. And we could go into detail why that is so important. If they had one, they would use it. They have no restriction. Now some countries, they kind of cull themselves because they don't want the return strike. They don't want to be totally annihilated, which our country has that ability. Matter of fact, one B2 bomber could take out all of North Korea. I don't know if you are aware of that, with the missiles that it can carry, the nukes. And, you know, nothing was done in North Korea when they were on the brink of getting their bomb together. And look at the situation today. They're sitting there with crude nuclear weapons, but they do have them, so we have to deal with them in a totally different way. And even though they appear to be crazy as an outhouse rat and they starve their people so they can have these expensive toys, they know they can't use it. They know that if they do, they will be totally annihilated, removed from history. And so that is a weight they have to look at if they want to, you know, get frisky. So you have the Iranians that were headed this way and everybody, I mean, they stand up, they tell everybody, death to Israel, Death to America. And they will use it because they think if they start World War 3, it will bring on their Messiah, if you will. And I'm not qualified on their religion to speak about it, but the 12th Imam, and they just can't be allowed to get one at whatever cost. So I applaud President Trump. I know sometimes he does things that aggravate people. He is polarizing. But I think he was dead on this time and I think he had good people in place and they did what they had to do. And I appreciate them doing it because I think we're in a safer place today. Now, will they be some terrorist attacks and all? Yes, but there always is. It was going to be that way anyway, so hopefully. And we're going to talk about it later in the podcast, I have David Nassar who is going to be on, and I don't know of a better source to talk about this than him. He left Iran when the Ayatollahs took over. His dad was a high ranking Air Force official. He's been in that. He's seen how that worked. He was a refugee, came to the US he's going to tell you the whole story. So that'll be very interesting and I hope that you will stay tuned through all of that because he has an amazing testimony and it's something that I think we need to hear right now. So at the time of this podcast, a ceasefire has been declared between Israel and Iran. Hopefully that is real. Hopefully it will hold. I don't know if you've seen the videos coming from that country of women who are out ripping their headdress off and saying they're done with it. I mean, they could very well be on a culture revolution there. And David will address some of that. It's a very, very interesting and timely interview. And we're going to go ahead and get in a break and then we're going to go to him because I want to spend most of the time with you hearing what he has to say at this most critical time in human history. And I know many of you have been worried that this is the beginning of World War Three, that it's the end of time, all this. Look, let's just look at it at face value, what it is. We'll talk about it, we'll break it down. And you know, God bless America and God bless those brave men and women who are in our armed forces. And I'll say this, God bless the engineers who had the ideas to design and understand and build these wonderful machines that we have that can do what nobody else in the world can do. And Donald Trump was there to say, I'll take care of it. So we appreciate that. We'll be right back in just a minute.

Poor test rolling. Make no mistake, Betty Lou's got that laugh. She's a hoot. Do the math. Dog walking in the back. Hey, guys, this is Andy Irwin, director of movies like I can only imagine, an American underdog. And you're listening to Bubba on the Lake.
David Nassar
Well, we're back and we have a very special guest, an old friend, and you talking about a guy in demand this week, David Nassar. David, how are you doing?
Bubba
Hey, Bubba. Man, it's so good to hear your voice. I miss you, brother. Man, when I used to live in Birmingham, I woke up every day to listening to you on the radio. And obviously we've been friends for a long time, and then I moved to Virginia and, man, just. We lost track. But it's so good to hear your voice. Well, you're living on the lake and following Betty around.
David Nassar
Absolutely. I'm trying to keep everything afloat here a little bit longer, so we'd enjoy some of it. But, David, listen, we've got so much history that we could go over, but I want to kind of set the table so everybody will know. I mean, you've been on podcast all day today. I know you have, and you are in high demand because it ties right into world events today.
Bubba
Yeah, yeah. I'm originally from the country of Iran, and when 1979, the Iranian Revolution happened. And that's when my family and I were forced to escape the same Muslim religious zealots. The evil regime that you see is the same one that took over our country. And so when I was nine, we escaped from Iran and we went to Europe, and we were stuck in Europe for nine months trying to make it to America. This is back when the Iranian hostage situation was happening, man. We were from the wrong place at the wrong time, you know, trying to make it to the States and just couldn't get the doors to open up. And one day, about nine months into being stuck in Europe, my mom got us together, Bill. And she said, hey, I've got an American idea. And we were like, oh, what is it? She said, well, we've tried everything else to come to the States because you can't seem to get here legally, illegally, any other way. And she said, do you guys know who this is? She showed us a picture of a white man with a beard and a mullet, kind of a handsome duck dynasty looking guy. We were like, no, we don't know who he is. And she said to my sister and I, she said, this is. This is Jesus Christ, and he's American, and we need to ask him to let us into his country. And so first time I saw Jesus, I thought, you know, he was a white American.
David Nassar
He was in charge of immigration.
Bubba
That's right. And that's bad theology and bad geography. Because what I didn't know was he's actually originally more from my neck of the woods. Right, right, Your neck of the woods. He's more camel dynasty than dog dynasty. But, man, even though we were Shiite Muslims, you know, we just close our eyes and pray Jesus his name out loud and ask him to let us into his country. And God was bigger than inaccurate prayers. I mean, a week later, after we mentioned his name, God opened the doors and we came to the United States. And so we came here above under political asylum, which is just a fancy way of saying we were legal immigrants, we were refugees. And, man, we moved here to Texas. Not just Texas, but during the Iranian hafsa situation, while people are watching America burn, the American Iranians burning the American flag, calling America the Great Satan, you know, all of this different stuff. We moved to a military town in Texas. So I was just like a wedgie waiting to happen, you know, and fish out of water all the way. And for years and years, that was me. Until the day my freshman year in high school was about to start when my dad felt sorry for me for being so much the outcasted kid. And he took me to the mall and kind of gave me an extreme makeover, you know, And I went to school the next day, high school, and it flipped. I mean, I just learned how to play high school. My high school years, I wore the right label, ended up at the right luncheon table, learned how to dump the right girl before she could dump me, climbed the social ladder, all that stuff. And, you know, it's so true where it says in the Bible, what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, but to forfeit his soul? And on paper, it looked like things had gotten better, but I just basically, you know, sold out. And I graduated from high school. And about two months after high school, pretty much a lost kid. Kind of just a kid who was just heading down all the wrong path. A buddy of mine invited me to church, and I went to church, and, man, this youth group was on fire for the Lord, and they just saw me coming. And, bro, they. For the next eight Monday nights in a row, they came to my house and Shared the gospel with me. And after eight weeks, one night, I gave my life to Christ When I became a Christian, Bubba, you know, my parents were never devout Muslims until the night I became a Christian.
David Nassar
Right, right. Then they were highly offended.
Bubba
Right, right. All of a sudden my dad was like, you know, you cannot be a Christian, but a Muslim. But we are, you know. And I got kicked out of the house for becoming a Christian. And I moved in with six guys that lived in a one bedroom apartment. Charles Dylan's, he was one of them, by the way. And, man, we lived in this house and ate ramen noodles every day. And five months after I was a Christian, my sister came to know the Lord through Campus Crusade on her campus. And then five months after that, my mom became a Christian. And then five months after that, my brother Benjamin, who God made just fearfully and wonderfully, down syndrome, he became a Christian. And then two and a half years later, Bill, my dad became a Christian. And so, one by one, I've seen my whole family come to know the Lord.
David Nassar
David, you had told the story, and I wish you would share it again about your dad, because he was the last one to come aboard, so to speak. And a lot of that had to do with an illness with your mom, right?
Bubba
Yeah, absolutely. It was actually right down the street from where we used to live, you and I, the Kirkland Clinic. We moved to Birmingham at this time and we found out that my mom had heart issues and needed bypass surgery. And the day that I was out of town when all of that was going down, and so I come into town, we were at the hospital, Bill, and it's me, my sister, my dad, and a couple of friends who are in ministry come over to just pray over my mom. And they didn't know that that was going to offend my dad, you know, and so they start praying and bother praying in Jesus name. My dad is making fun of the prayers. My mom interrupts the prayers. She starts yelling at my dad. It's just a scene at the hospital room. This is right before my mom's about to be put on a stretcher.
David Nassar
Yeah, that's exactly what you want. Right before that.
Bubba
Yeah, right. I call it my big fat Greek open heart surgery. It was this crazy moment. And so my mom and dad are mad at each other, you know, and my mom gets put in the stretcher, and she starts going down the hallway, and we're walking behind her in the hallway, and we get to this one area down the hall where you push this little red button on the wall and the doors automatically open and it says authorized personnel only right beyond the other side. And they're gonna put my mom on the other side. We're trying not to say the word goodbye, you know, so we're just kind of like standing there and my mom gets put on the other side. And as the doors closing, my sister looks at me and she says, hey, listen, we didn't tell you this because you were out of town, but a few days ago when mom went in for an angioplasty where they were just going to watch to see with an X ray machine where the flowage and the blockages on her heart, as soon as they injected the dye into her heart, she said, I was standing right here in this hallway and I noticed that the doors busted open and there was this red flashing light over the door where she was having the procedure done. And as it was flashing, that was the sign where they knew that they had to run in and electrocute mom, shock mom to bring her back, resuscitate her. And so she tells me this in the hallway. She says, look, we need to pray that that light doesn't come on again. You know, mom doesn't flat line again. She's about to go in now for the surgery. And so, man, we're standing there a couple minutes, you know, just kind of praying, kind of waiting. It's going to be like a seven hour surgery. They tell us, you know, we're just kind of getting ready for the, for the ride. And all of a sudden I hear no. And I look and that door's opened up and that light over my mom's door is on and it's blinking again. So she flat lined again. So we all run, me, my sister and my dad, we all run to the other side where we're not supposed to be. And I get on my knees, my sister gets underneath, we both put our hands on the door and we just start screaming to the Lord. We're like, God, please don't do this. Please don't take mom away. Please God. And while we're yelling the name of Jesus, all of a sudden I, I feel something on my shoulder. And I look and my dad had bent one knee and puts his hand on my shoulder and starts going, jesus, please, please. And my dad starts yelling out the name of Jesus. And buddy, the second my dad yelled out the name of Christ, that light just stopped blinking. Well, two weeks later, everything's good. We're checking mom out of the hospital and we're getting ready. My sister says to My mom, she said, hey, mom, you know, the other day when we flatlined again for the second time, we forgot to tell you, but in the middle of all that, guess who was yelling out the name of Jesus? Dad was. And so my dad starts getting mad. And my mom looked at my dad and she said, so now you believe in Jesus? And he's like, yes. And then right there, my sister led my dad to the Lord.
David Nassar
Oh, man, David, I've got chills. I got chills just hearing that again. Golly, isn't that amazing? I've heard your testimony many times, but it's. It always just pierces my heart when I hear it, man.
Bubba
It got good. And here's the crazy thing, Bill. Three months ago, my dad died. He passed away. And that's just such blessed assurance. Sitting beside him in the hospital and just knowing that he's just taking his last breath and knowing that that wasn't a goodbye, that he's with my mom, he's in heaven. And so, honestly, my story is about the destruction of religion, you know, more particularly Islam, but just any religion gone wrong, and about the restoring, reviving power of the gospel. And so, yeah, I think when I look back at my life, I can see how this bloody religious revolution in one sense destroyed the life of so many people. But God, what the enemy meant for evil, God used for good in my life. And because of that, we escaped from Iran. And because of that, we were American. Because of that, as American citizens, I heard the gospel and then the Lord saved me and eventually saved my whole family. So, yeah, it's a good amen.
David Nassar
Amen. Look, I'm First Baptist. I got my hands up. I mean, that's good stuff, David. That's good stuff right there, huh? They would have thought I had a problem at First Baptist. They thought I had a kink in my arm or something. David, I want to tell you, too, that's such a great testimony, but your dad was a big deal in Iran when the Shah of Iran was in charge. He was a high ranking military official in the Air Force, correct?
Bubba
Yeah, he was. And, you know, and I think some of that, Bill, is an interesting point you're making and that some of that played into his pride, you know, when, when I became a Christian to my dad, you know, he took offense to it because he had lost his position in the army, he had lost his wealth. He left all that behind, you know, when we escaped from Iran, he had lost so much of his pedigree, you know, and his heritage. And now in his Mind. Because of his prodigal son who had gone away to Christianity, he lost his faith, you know, and what he didn't really realize was that I wasn't dishonoring him. I was actually honoring him. I was breaking that generational curse of religion, you know, and actually coming to Christ.
David Nassar
David, I have to tell you, too, one of the most surreal moments I've ever had with you. And I want to tell this story now because we're talking about your dad and his rank. We are with you and your wife in New York City, okay? We are going to the U.S. open. And there are several stories we gotta work in about this, but we are.
Bubba
We got a lot of New York.
David Nassar
Yeah. Oh, yeah. We are at Grand Central Station. Okay? This is the crossroads of the world in New York. It is busy, and they have a restaurant up on, like, the top level, but there is a line going down the stairs. And to get to this thing. And I mean, it's probably best guess an hour, hour and a half wait, something like that. And we're starving, and we're just standing in the line, hoping something will happen. And this gentleman comes down the stairs and he sees David and starts getting on the ground like he's worshiping him. It's exactly the scene out of Coming to America. You remember when Eddie Murphy, the guy starts worshiping him at the basketball stadium, and the guy says, the son of so and so will not stand in this line. Come with me. And he jerks us, and we go by all these angry New Yorkers, and he carries us right up and plops us down on a table. And that is the truth, man.
Bubba
That was an actor. I paid him. I said, hey, look, I just want to look and precise to Betty. It wasn't you, Bill.
David Nassar
David. It was so surreal because.
Bubba
Can you pretend I slipped that guy at 20?
David Nassar
Can you just pretend it was exactly like coming to America, except we. We got a table. We got a better deal than Eddie got, you know.
Bubba
So here's my favorite. Here's my favorite part of that New York trip. So, you know, we both were on the same tennis team, and you were like, hey, man, you want to go to the US Open? I was like, yes, let's go. And so we double date, go up to New York, you know, it's so fun. And we had tickets. I don't know if you remember this, but we had tickets for a couple of sessions. You go to the morning session and the afternoon session, but we went to, like, a session the next day. It rained on us. When we had tickets for a session.
David Nassar
And it was going to be a big match. It was probably Andre Agassi's last match.
Bubba
That's right. But he gets rained out. And I'm like, man, I'm bomb. We're not going to. And this is the. This is the fun part for your listening audience when you hang out with Bill Bubblebuster. He's like, dude, let me see if we can just go to Sean Hannity's house. I'm like, what are you talking about? And then you text Sean Hannity and he's like, come on over. And so you rented. I don't know if you remember this. You rented a limo. We hopped in this limo, we rode all the way out to Sean's house, and I'm sitting there stargazing. Like, I'm at Sean Hannity's house hanging out. This is just like on the coattails of the great Bill, blah, blah, blah. And then we hung out. And then the next day, the problem was Agassi was going to play his last match, but we didn't have tickets for that morning session.
David Nassar
Right.
Bubba
Because our session had rained out. So I go, hey, let's just go and try to get in. And you're like, yeah, let's go buy tickets. And I'm like, dude, I don't have Rick and Bubba money. I need to try to buy off a scalper or something. So you're like, no, no, let's just buy it off, you know, like the concierge of the hotel. So I talked you into it. I was like, hey, let me go side hustle and see if I can get us a ticket. I don't know if you remember this, but I.
David Nassar
Yes. Oh, I remember it very well, David.
Bubba
And this guy sells me tickets for like a hundred bucks a ticket. And I give him the money. And the second I give him the money, he's like, hey, nypd. He said, I do arrest.
David Nassar
Oh, no, all the silver.
Bubba
You came up and said, hey, please let him go. So the guy let us go, and you were like, let's get out of here, David.
David Nassar
There was. I mean, it was. I can't explain the walkway in say, say it was 300 foot wide. And it is shoulder to shoulder, people going into the. Into the venue. And then I see David coming through the crowd hollering, run, run.
Bubba
We gotta go, we gotta go.
David Nassar
And I'm like, wait, we're here to get. Run, run. And we turn around and have to go against the flow. Oh, my gosh, that was hilarious.
Bubba
You kept Saying, but it's Agassiz last. We gotta go.
David Nassar
It's gonna be our last match if we have to go to Rockers Island.
Bubba
I wasn't afraid to get arrested. I was afraid to get deported. You know what I mean? You can see Ellis island over there. I didn't want to get sent back.
David Nassar
And what was funny about the Sean Hannity visit, because he was going to meet us at the tennis tournament. He big tennis family. His son played, and I think his son's college team won a national championship. So. But he wasn't that far along yet. He was still upcoming through the ranks. And Sean said, well, since it's rained out, just come to our house and we'll cook out. And I'm like, oh, yeah, cool, cool. And then this is the moment of truth. I have to go, hey, Sean, we have another couple with us, and David, who's my very good friend, is Iranian. And, you know, there was a pause. There was a pause because Sean was very. He was very cautious about who got around him, you know? So there's this pause and he says, how well do you know him? I said, very well. He's a Christian. He's an evangelist. He's good. I promise you, he's good. And it was still a little bit of a pause. He said, well, okay, bring them on, if you're sure, you know. And I'm like, yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure it's good. But we had a great time. That was fun. That was a great evening.
Bubba
I just remember thinking, I'm so glad we got rained out.
David Nassar
Oh, I know.
Bubba
I just get to hang out with Bill. And he just walks me into Sean Hannity's house. I'm sitting there at Sean Hannity's dinner table eating filet mignon. And I'm like, this guy's a legend. This is awesome. This is so fun.
David Nassar
And we got to have a great discussion with him and about President Bush and some of their beliefs and their conversations they'd had. Well, David, that is all hilarious. I'm hurting from laughing so much, but those are such great memories. We're going to take a quick break. We'll come back, and we want to talk about what's going on now, get your input and your take on it, because I don't know anybody in the world that has a better sense to be able to read into all of this than you do. So we'll be right back in just a minute with more of David Nassar.
Bubba
One, two, three.
David Nassar
We'll be right back.

And David, that was some great memories you brought up. I do want to pick your brain because I think you have such great insight to what is going on in the Middle east right now. Give us your thoughts on the US Attack on the nuclear facilities. And I've been kind of shocked today looking, and I assume they're true. Who knows, you know, online nowadays, But I'm seeing people in Tehran celebrating and they are so happy that this has happened. They want a regime change.
Bubba
Yeah. And I think what you're seeing is just the reality of the state of the good people of Iran. And here's what I mean by that, Bill. You know, I would say roughly, I can't speak for 90 million plus Iranians, but I would say that roughly 85% of the people of Iran. 90%. 85 to 95%. 85 to 90% of the people of Iran are good people that just want freedom and they want safety, not just for themselves, but for the people of the world. They want democracy. They want to be able to provide for their family, take care of their family, and they want the best things for you and me as well. But then you've got the 15%. You got that 10 to 15% hardline anti American one, the ones that go on the streets and shout death to America. By the way, anytime somebody over and over and over again yells death to America, I always say you better believe them. You know, they might just mean it.
David Nassar
Yeah.
Bubba
So you've got that 15% hard line, and the 85% have been held hostage by the 15%, because the overwhelming minority, that small group of people, they're the ones who have, you know, they're the ones who are weaponized and they're mobilized, you know, and they've got communication. And that 15, 10%, that smaller group, really holds all this power in Iran. And they're the ones who caused havoc and terror, not just to the people of Iran, but to the world. Right. And so that's why the people of Iran want liberation. That's why they want a revolution. They want to see that Islamic regime overthrown so that they can have a nation again, they can have freedom again, and they can have democracy. And so that's why you're seeing so many people in the streets of Iran see this, where they feel like they might be on the cusp of something great. Now, you and I as Christians know that a revolution is good, but that's not ultimately what they need. Ultimately, what they need is not a revolution. Now, by the way, I'm praying that there will be a revolution. I'm praying that these terrorists up top who are running this regime will be overthrown. I'm praying that it's a safer world for all of us for that to happen. However, more than what they need being a revolution, they need revival. They need revival just like we need revival, Right?
David Nassar
Yep.
Bubba
And what Iran really needs is not a new regime, but awakening. And here's the hope that. About 60%, Bubba of Iran is under the age of 40. And that is a young, audacious group of people who have been oppressed by Sharia law, you know, have every day. All they've known is a tyrannical theocracy that's just brought oppression on their life. And they are done with religion gone wrong. It's not worked out. And they've seen the destruction of it. I mean, 50% of the nation is under poverty. The 250,000 they estimate prostitutes in Iran. It has a horrific drug addiction problem. And so, you know, it hasn't worked out, all this religion crammed down people's throats. And I heard a stat the other day that 50,000 of the 70,000 mosques in Iran have closed in the last 10 years. And so religion is not working. So I think that the church in Iran, the underground church in Iran, who is already thriving and growing, fastest growing church in the world, knows that it's actually not just on the cusp of possibly A revolution, but on the cusp of a revival, because I think people are seeing the destruction of religion. And because of that, they might be more open than ever when they have freedom to say, well, that doesn't mean we don't want God. We just want the true God. And I think, man, we could see revival like we've never imagined. If the Lord will.
David Nassar
David, this may shock you because it has shocked me on this podcast, as you would expect, 98% of the people who listen are in the United States. But when you drop down to the number two spot, what country do you think is the number two spot? Listening to this podcast? And it's not Canada and not Mexico. What do you think it is?
Bubba
Wow. Great Britain, Iran. I don't know.
David Nassar
Iran?
Bubba
Are you kidding?
David Nassar
Iran. We get about 700 downloads each week in Iran. I don't know who those people are. I don't know if they're headed to the gallows that week. And that was their last request. I don't know. Or if it is the underground church there. So there is an audience there for what we're talking about. Is there anything you want to say to them directly? Because you have an audience in Iran right now?
Bubba
Yeah, man. I have deep affection for the good people of Iran. You know, I wrote a book called Jumping Through Fire, and I tell my life story, and you open it up, page one. And I've dedicated the book to the people of Iran, praying that God would. The Lord would awaken them to revival. And so if someone is listening today from Iran, I want to tell you, hold fast. God is up to something bigger than the circumstances right in front of you. And just know that there's a big distinction between bombing all of Iran versus bombing nuclear sites, and that our intention is to see your freedom. And, man, I'm praying for you. I'm praying that you'll get Starlink receivers so that you can tell your story, you know, with an iPhone, with your hand. I'm praying that, you know, Pahlavi or some leader will step in and be able to lead you to where you can vote for your own leaders and have the freedom that should be afforded to you. And I pray for peace and prosperity for your land. But more than all of that, so much more than all of that, I pray that God would use these tragedies to bring testimony into your life. And I'm just telling you, isn't it weird that the most troubled places in the world are actually the most religious places in the world, and that religion just will not save You. But Jesus will. Jesus will. He's not religion. He is the redeemer. And so, man, I'm excited, you know, that people are listening. And by the way, that's the Iranians. That I would think that's the Iranians I know. Like, audacious, seeking truth, wanting, hungry, you know, to learn, hungry to engage and wanting to be about more and then just whatever is fed to them, you know? So that's exciting, man.
David Nassar
David, you pretty much did, but I was going to say, do you want to just have a quick prayer for them right now? You pretty much said it in that. But do you want to take it a step further and let everybody listening join in with you?
Bubba
Yeah, listen, it doesn't matter whether you are from Israel, whether you're from Gaza, if you're from Iran, or if you're from Indianapolis, you know what I mean? We all fall short to the glory of God. And if you're listening, I just want you to know that there's not a whole lot of difference in the scope of eternity between a religious Southern Baptist who doesn't really know the Lord and has religion versus a religious Shiite Muslim who doesn't really know the Lord, you know, and meets the Gospel. And so if you're here and you're listening and you've never truly given your life over to Jesus Christ, I just want to ask you right now to just consider. Consider the cross. Know that Jesus lived a perfect life. He died a sinner's death on your behalf. And he died to be the sacrificial lamb. He died to pay the penalty for our sins, all of our sins. And if you'll receive him, what he did on the cross is enough. If you say, Jesus, I'm 100% guilty. So I plead guilty. But I plead your work of salvation as my only hope. He will save you. So if that's you, just pray with me right now. Jesus, I know you're real. I know you're more than religion. You are the redeemer. You're the Son of God. And I know your Savior, the only Savior. So I'm asking you to come and save wretched sinner me. I don't need religion. I don't need to clean up my act. I need to give up my life. I don't need to go from bad to good. I need to go from death to life. I don't need to work harder to earn your life, your love. I just need to worship you because you've done the good work on the cross and through Your resurrection. So I give myself over to you. All of me, all the brokenness, all the excuses, all of it. I just give it over to you. And I ask you to come into my life. Save me. Just as you died on the cross he owed me, comes to the end of me now and dies. And just as you rose from the grave, a new me is born again. I receive this gift. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me. Amen.
David Nassar
Amen. Amen and amen. David, you know, we know how the story ends. We've read the back of the book and it says every nation will be represented. Every nation. And that means everybody. And, you know, we can get caught up in our flag waving, too, but there's really only going to be two countries, those that are in and those that are out. And that's really going to be the only separation. And I want everybody to be in.
Bubba
Amen. I love that. Bill, you know that what you just said takes nothing away from your love for this nation.
David Nassar
No.
Bubba
The patriotism that you have. I know you are a great American. You love this country. You would sacrifice your life for this country. I love this country. But the best way we can honor America is not to make an idol of it. You know, America makes. America doesn't just make a great nation. I believe it makes the greatest nation. But he makes a horrible God. And like you said, one day in heaven, we won't be American, but we'll always be the children of God. That's our ultimate citizenship. And like you said, we know how the story ends. We read the back. We win. Every nation, every tongue, every tribe bowed at the feet of Jesus and man, I don't know, maybe one day we're together, somebody will walk over to us in heaven and say, I listen to a podcast.
David Nassar
Wouldn't that be great? Wouldn't that be great? Oh, man, look from your lips to God's ear. I hope so. That would be simply awesome. It really would. But, David, I know there's, you know, we've had these events as we're doing this podcast. A ceasefire has been declared. I hope. You know, I hope all of this is real. You know, we're limited on what we get and we have to depend on other people to feed us information. But that's one reason I wanted to talk to you, because you've been there, you live there, you live through it. You know what it is to be of that faith. You know what it is to be a Christian. And you have such a unique perspective on this that very few people have.
Bubba
Yeah, well, you're very kind. Let me just say this. I'm watching the TV screen as well, and I'm celebrating with you that, you know, just that word ceasefire just feels so. It feels like an answer to prayer, you know, for the good people of Israel, for the good people of Iran, for the good people of America, for the good people and those army bases, you know, in Yemen and nearby, where they could be in harm's way. But the thing is, we can take out all the nuclear capacity and capabilities of Iran by bombing those three sites. And we can do all of the things, but we have not changed the heart of evil men. And so do they just now go and try to purchase it from a North Korea, or should they go try? Are you enriched from another nation? You know, like, right. What we need, again, the only assurance for true ceasefire is the gospel. God needs to change the heart of men. And so, yes, we celebrate the momentary victory of it, and I'm so grateful for that. But the only true assurance for the people of Israel is to become the people of God, you know, the great, the ultimate Abraham covenant, which is Jesus. And I pray that for my dear friends and the good people of Israel. I pray that for Iranians. I pray that honestly for people in Alabama listening today who again, have all the right answers. You know, my wife was that way. I know. You know, Jennifer well, you know, Betty always been such good friends with us, but Jennifer grew up Bill, at Northport Baptist Church. You know, she was on the pastor's side search committee when she was 16. She was like Bible drill champion. I've seen the ribbons. That's back when you had to earn ribbons. Everybody just didn't get ribbons. Like, she was. She was a good girl, moral girl. She was at the Bama Theater, you know, in downtown Tuscaloosa as a counselor with a counselor badge on, ready to go, like, walk the aisle and lead someone to the Lord. When she walked in aisle as a teenager, took off her counselor badge as the leader of the youth group, gave it to her youth pastor and said, I need to be saved. And it's weird, because she was a teenager when the Lord saved her and I was a teenager when the Lord saved me. But on paper, she looked like she had it all together. Good girl from Alabama from a good Southern Baptist church, had all the right answers, did all the right things, went to camp, sang the right song, you know, again, tithe did all the stuff, but yet close their eyes and prayed more to a black void than a Christ that she knew intimately and that's what I mean when I say, you can be listening to me in Alabama, and the question is the same for you as it, is someone listening to me in Iran?
David Nassar
Yeah.
Bubba
Not, do you have religion? But do you know the redeemer, you know, preach it? Religion is just cleaning up your act.
David Nassar
Yep.
Bubba
You know, religion is just cleaning up your behavior. Redemption is giving up your life. And so. So at the end of the day, you know what's weird about all that is not weird, but ironically awesome. And I guess good kind of weird is, you know, yesterday, Bill, I was at the church in Thompson Station here, suburb of Nashville, and I shared my testimony. And in the middle of all that we're watching on tv, you know, we have people give their life to Christ. And it's not just not lost on me that God would send. He would send a missionary from the 1040 window to Nashville, Tennessee, you know.
David Nassar
Yep.
Bubba
To share the gospel and see people that are good people, that go to a good church, come to Christ and say, you know, what it's always been about works. It's never been about worship, you know, never been about really trusting him and giving up my life. So, man, anyway, you get me preaching because I just.
David Nassar
Listen, you. You can just. You can keep on preaching, brother. I love it. I love it. Yeah. David, you've done so much good for the kingdom since the Lord saw to reestablish you here in the United States and have that freedom to do that. And the work he's done with you and your family is amazing. So, you know, it blesses me every time I hear that. I love hanging out. I love when we goof off, but I tell you, that just. And my spirit, it just leaps for joy when I hear that.
Bubba
Yeah. Well, you're so kind, man, but I miss you. We got to try to get together. I know we're old now, so we just play fake tennis, which is called pickleball.
David Nassar
Only on this podcast could we take such giant leaps from praying for the people of Iran to pickleball. But, yeah. Did I understand that you have poured a pickleball court in your backyard? Is that a rumor or is that true?
Bubba
Yes. Now lower your expectations. Like, it's the poor man's version. It's like concrete and paint. Not the bougie country music artist, but, yeah, poor one. Because honestly, it's just anybody. My grandkids can run around it. You know, my kids are over here playing in it. You get older, buddy. Like, you know, older. You can just kind of.
David Nassar
We were talking about it today. If you know how to play good doubles, you're already ahead of the game in pickleball. David, we want you and Jennifer to come down sometime. Come let us know when you're in this area or might be in this area or want to come down. And we'd love to have you guys come down for a weekend and put you on my favorite thing to do, the pontoon boat.
Bubba
Let's go. Let's go. Are you going to Auburn games? I know that's your.
David Nassar
I do every now and then. You know, I work at Jack State now, so the Gamecocks get top billing with me. And. But, you know, we. Our family has been heavily leaning that way for a long time. But I got friends all over the place, and I don't take it near as serious as I used to. You know, I'm more concerned about the people than the uniform.
Bubba
That's exactly right. Well, we got to get together in the fall. I'll come to the lake house and we'll watch the ball game.
David Nassar
Absolutely. Absolutely. David, thank you for being on. Our guest is David Nasser. He is an Iranian evangelist, but we call him friend and brother. And we're planning on spending a long time with you called Eternity Together. And. And I hope I don't. I don't know what stories we'll get to bring with us and tell, but I tell you, you have left me with some of the best ones. And we didn't even cover all of the tennis stories today. We'll. We'll save that for next time. But, David, thanks for taking time to be on with us.
Bubba
Yeah, buddy. I love you. Please hug Daddy for me.
David Nassar
Will do. Thank you.

Bubba On the Lake – Episode #19: U.S. Strikes Iran, and David Nassar Iranian
Release Date: June 24, 2025
Host: Bill "Bubba" Bussey
Guest: David Nassar
Description: In this poignant and timely episode, Bubba delves deep into the recent U.S. military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities with guest David Nassar, an Iranian Christian evangelist. Through personal testimonies and insightful discussions, the podcast explores the intricate dynamics of religion, politics, and hope for revival in Iran.
Bubba opens the episode by addressing the major current event: the United States’ recent military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear sites. He contextualizes the action within the broader historical stance of U.S. presidents against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.
Bubba (04:30): “Every US President has stood up and said we will not let the Iranians get a nuclear weapon.”
Bubba compares Iran’s situation with that of North Korea, emphasizing the unique threat posed by Iran's intentions to use nuclear capabilities without restraint.
Bubba (06:15): “They have no restriction. Now some countries, they kind of cull themselves because they don't want the return strike.”
He commends President Trump’s decisive action, despite his polarizing nature, believing it placed the U.S. in a safer position regarding nuclear threats.
Bubba (08:45): “I applaud President Trump. I think he was dead on this time and I think he had good people in place.”
Bubba warmly welcomes his longtime friend, David Nassar, sharing nostalgic memories of their friendship from their days in Birmingham. The conversation swiftly transitions to David’s personal and harrowing journey from Iran to the United States.
David Nassar (13:24): “I've lost track, but it's so good to hear your voice.”
David recounts escaping Iran during the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the struggles as refugees in Europe, and the miraculous moments that led his family to seek asylum in the U.S.
David Nassar (15:25): “This is Jesus Christ, and he's American, and we need to ask him to let us into his country.”
He shares his conversion to Christianity during high school, detailing the challenges faced, including being ostracized by his family and the transformative power of faith.
David Nassar (18:02): “My dad was like, you cannot be a Christian, but a Muslim.”
David describes the pivotal moment of his sister leading their father to Christianity following their mother's critical heart surgery. The heartfelt testimony underscores the profound impact of faith on his family.
David Nassar (22:53): “I've heard your testimony many times, but it's... it always just pierces my heart.”
Bubba reflects on the loss of his father three months prior, highlighting the enduring legacy of faith and the destructive power of misguided religion.
Bubba (23:06): “Three months ago, my dad died. He was a big deal in Iran...”
The conversation lightens as Bubba and David reminisce about their adventures, including a surreal encounter at Grand Central Station in New York and humorous mishaps at the U.S. Open tennis tournament. These stories not only showcase their deep friendship but also provide a relatable break from the heavy topics discussed.
Bubba (25:55): “We got a lot of New York.”
David Nassar (29:43): “We gotta go, we gotta go.”
Returning to the central theme, Bubba and David discuss the profound unrest and desire for change within Iran. They highlight that while a small percentage of hardliners propagate anti-American sentiments and terror, the vast majority of Iranians yearn for freedom, democracy, and an end to oppression.
Bubba (35:34): “Roughly 85-95% of the people of Iran are good people that just want freedom and safety.”
David emphasizes the burgeoning underground church movement in Iran, suggesting that the current turmoil might pave the way for a significant revival.
David Nassar (37:11): “More than what they need being a revolution, they need revival.”
Bubba addresses the Iranian audience directly, offering prayers and messages of hope, encouraging them to look beyond political turmoil and embrace spiritual awakening.
Bubba (39:46): “I want to tell you, hold fast. God is up to something bigger than the circumstances right in front of you.”
In a moving segment, David leads a heartfelt prayer, inviting listeners from all walks of life—whether they are from Israel, Gaza, Iran, or the United States—to seek a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ beyond mere religious practices.
Bubba (42:02): “If you're here and you're listening and you've never truly given your life over to Jesus Christ, I just want to ask you right now to just consider.”
The prayer underscores the podcast’s central message: moving from religion to a personal, redemptive faith. Both hosts express deep patriotism intertwined with their spiritual beliefs, emphasizing that true honor comes from loving God rather than making a nation an idol.
Bubba (44:49): “The patriotism that you have... One day in heaven, we won't be American, but we'll always be the children of God.”
Bubba and David wrap up the episode by reflecting on the importance of faith in navigating geopolitical crises. Bubba expresses gratitude for the ceasefire, recognizing it as a temporary victory but reiterating the need for a lasting spiritual transformation within Iran.
Bubba (46:33): “The only assurance for true ceasefire is the gospel. God needs to change the heart of men.”
They exchange light-hearted banter about their personal lives, interests like pickleball, and future plans, maintaining the friendly and relatable tone of the podcast.
Bubba (04:30):
“Every US President has stood up and said we will not let the Iranians get a nuclear weapon.”
David Nassar (15:25):
“This is Jesus Christ, and he's American, and we need to ask him to let us into his country.”
David Nassar (22:53):
“I've heard your testimony many times, but it's... it always just pierces my heart.”
Bubba (35:34):
“Roughly 85-95% of the people of Iran are good people that just want freedom and safety.”
Bubba (39:46):
“I want to tell you, hold fast. God is up to something bigger than the circumstances right in front of you.”
Bubba (42:02):
“If you're here and you're listening and you've never truly given your life over to Jesus Christ, I just want to ask you right now to just consider.”
