Now back to Bubba on the Lake. Hey, it's Bubba. Bubba. Bubba on the lake. Bubba, Bubba, Bubba on the Lake. Y know, gotta come and check this. Talking people, talking places from Bubba's perspective. Well, hello again everybody and welcome to another edition of Bubba on the Lake. I'm your semi retired, mostly washed up host, formerly the Rick and Bubba show. And now I want to welcome you to Bubba on the Lake. We're broadcasting from the Melayella studio. Our website is bubbaonthelake.com and you can shoot me an email at bubba@bubbaonthelake.com we also have the comment line 308 Big Lake. Don't forget to subscribe, turn on notifications and all that good stuff. Hope everybody is doing well. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. I am really looking forward to it. Betty has been cooking and boy when I see dressing that gets me fired up for the holidays. I mean to tell you. Well, we got a lot going on. Several things here at the lake I need to tell you about. Also the big news. It looks like the government shutdown is coming to a close. We still have a few votes but it looks like the Senate has now cleared the way for that. That's where the holdup was. The House will have to vote on appears that eight Democrats voted with all the Republicans to advance the measure 60, 40. And it was a bit of a sudden breakthrough on November 9th. The Democrats were holding out for money for the Affordable Care Act Obamacare as predicted, Obamacare is not meeting the financial goals that we were told it would and they need money to prop it up. It's in the red and premiums are going up. Not very affordable I might add. And they're needing to supplement that. The Democrat, the Republicans said no sir, we're not going to do that. We need a clean bill move forward. And that's what they did. Now they have promised the Democrats they will get a vote on the House on some of this that they want to do that has been voted down before. You know I really wish the what we would do here is we could come together as Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, whatever the separation there are description you want to have and let's, let's fix this so we don't have this problem. People who are on these programs and I know there's some waste in it, I know they need to be cleaned up but for people truly on these programs that need this help. Talking about SNAP and WIC and the veterans programs and you know, payment for the air traffic controllers. How are they not considered, you know, emergency have to have people. I mean if anything I think that should be. I wish we could come together right now and say, look, the Senate and the House, they have a legislative process. They bring up things, they go to committees, they vote. You know, it goes to the full chambers. If it passes, it goes to the other House. Jimmy Jam. If all goes together, the President signs, it becomes law. Well, when you don't get your way, people resort to other things like the filibuster, which is not in the Constitution by the way. That's just part of the rules of the Senate that they have agreed upon. And I don't know if I like this filibuster or not. Some people see it as a great circuit breaker and the Senate is supposed to be the cooling plate. They don't react. They're not knee jerk. They let everything soak a little bit like you would in the washer and they look at it and decide and that's how they become the upper house. The House itself has a turnover every two years. It's supposed to be the will of the people. What's happening out there? What's burning? Give me the, the events of the day. And the House addresses that. And then the Senate cools it down a little bit and doesn't let it go quite as fast. And they are supposed to look it over and kick it around and you know, savor it and see if it's really worthy of moving forward. Well, this budget deal is just shows the ridiculous process. Guys, I'm a C student from Calhoun county and this is ridiculous to me. Let's take this off the table. Let's say this, that if we cannot vote as a group to have a spending bill and move that forward, that we automatically go with last year's budget minus 3%. So that means we cut the budget unless we can agree, And I mean 3% across the board, everything, everybody suffers. So it would be in the interest of our House and Senate and President to get these things done and signed and move on. No tying anything else to has to be that. So if you did that then we would never have a shutdown again. And if these pointed head idiots in Washington could not get it together, we would automatically have a budget with a 3% cut. We save some money. Oh, 3% cut. You want to cut everything? Yes, I do. Everything. Everybody has to pay the price. Cause let's face it, the budget's going up every year. The money's not going up. We gotta get control of this somehow. We've been spending like Saturday night drunk for 100 years, so we gotta kind of get some. There needs to be one adult in the room, stand up and say, hey, boys, girls, we can't quit printing money just to do these projects. Because you know what happens when you print money? It steals money from me and you that have a retirement fund who have paid into it 30, 40, 50 years. And now it is being washed away, the value of that by them printing more and more money. And they do that because they can't bring in enough money to take care of their pet projects. Oh, I know. They're so good. They're so important. We have so many things that we need to do. Take care of this, take care of that. But look, we got to be adults. The number one threat, I think, to our democracy, to our freedom, to our country, is ourselves. I know Russia's out there doing this. China's out there doing this. But look. Look at what we do to ourselves. Has China done anything to us even close to what we've done to ourselves? I would beg to argue that we have met the enemy and it's ourself and it's ignorance. We've got to get together and go back and do some basic bookkeeping like your mom told you to do when you moved out to get an apartment. You can't spend more than you bring in, period. Doesn't matter how good the sale is. Don't matter how bad you need those shoes. Doesn't matter how new the latest computer product is from Apple. We got to. We got to be grown up and get on with this. So anyway, the good news is it looks like the shutdown's over. The House is going to take up the Senate version. It should pass. The Republicans have a pretty good grip on that. The president will sign it. We can get everybody back to work and get them paid in time for Black Friday because gosh knows we need everybody to have their money on Black Friday. How are we going to get in the black if nobody's spending money, for crying out loud? So it all plays in together. We got to have that. So hopefully the shutdown is over. I hate it for the people who suffered through that. It is ridiculous. I feel a little bit like I'm watching kids on the playground. And I'm. I'm disappointed in all of them, quite frankly. Even my side sometimes. We got to do a little bit Better. And it's just common sense. I think that's one of the things why President Trump has been so popular with so many people. And I knew people that didn't think he would play in the south when he was first coming out and running. But there is something in the south that he appeals to and that is common sense. Sure, we got idiots here like everywhere else. I mean, there's idiots all the time. There's idiot parents having idiot kids, but. Oh, I'm sorry, it's just, it's on me today. I'm just tired of seeing people do dumb things. They should be smarter than this. I don't get it. I really don't. Alright, so here at the lake we've had our first cold snap and she was a chilly one. We've had a, we've had a very mild summer and mild fall I think, compared to what it has been when I was growing up. But we did have a first really good cold snap where we had freezing weather. Hopefully that'll kill the weeds off and you know, the snakes are in for now. I hope so. But there's so much going on. I love. Betty was talking about how much she loves this time of year at the lake because there's not all the boat traffic, there's not all the traffic in general. It calms down the water. Still beautiful. It's down a little bit, but for the most part it's still very, very lovely. We, we really can't see dry land where we are because we have a pretty good drop off in the front, about five, six foot. So there's a little bit of a sandbar there now, but not a lot. And it is really, really pretty and I don't like it getting dark so early. Gosh, I don't want to get on that again. Another thing common sense can, can we not fix that, y'? All, this is not, this is not like weather we can't control. This is, this is. We decided to do this to ourself, okay? I'm not, I promise. I know. I told y' all wouldn't it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to get out. But let me tell you one of the good things going on at the lake this month. Santa, we all love Santa. He is coming to Lake Martin on Black Friday for the Christmas at Crossroads. Now if you're not familiar with this, it's worth a drive to check it out. On Friday, November 28, you can shop the Holiday Bazaar from 9 to 4pm for the perfect handmade gifts for the loved ones on your list. And if you like arts and crafts, they got it. Tell the kids to have their list ready and get their picture made with Santa over on the Green stage. On the Green stage. That's the stage where they have a thing in the summer called on the Green. He'll be there from 10 till 2. Now if you need more information on any of this you can go to Russelllands.com they'll have all the information. Just another way they're making the holiday season great here at the lake. So with that said, we we have several things lined up for this show. I don't know if they're going to happen or not, so we're waiting on some callbacks. We'll get to that. I still have several things here. We have some email that I want to share with you and we also have a story about one of my favorite places to go and someone sent this to me a few weeks ago and it's about their customer satisfaction. Dropping it didn't drop much. I'll tell you more about it in a minute. You're listening to Bubba on the Lake.

I'm Bill Bubba Bussy and you're tuned to Bubba on the Lake. Now, we always tell you being on the lake is a state of mind more than a location. So keep that in mind. Also, we want to thank all of you. We've had a tremendous response to this podcast this year and we want to continue to grow it. And that takes a lot of work and it takes a lot of help from you guys. So we appreciate that. Someone had emailed me this a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to get to it because I thought it was funny. This is a. The, let's see, the group here is the American Customer Satisfaction Index. And they rate businesses and how people like them and how they're getting along with the public. Well, the story here says, well, the top rated one has slipped off the top just a little bit. Who do you think that is? Take a guess. Wendy's? Chick Fil a? How about BUC EE's? Um, you know, I don't. I've noticed it doesn't matter what season it is, what the weather is, what the Congress is doing, how the economy is doing, if we have a Democrat or Republican president. I have never been in Buc EE's that it was not just packed to the gills. Well, two places I have never been that it was not packed. Buc EE's and the apple Store. I have never been in an Apple Store or a Buc EE's and I could tell you by the crowd that we were having a recession. I mean, it just doesn't happen. Everybody in there is so happy and they're just eating and they're. They're eating those. I tell you what I love is those cashews that are cinnamon coated that's in that little cone like a drumstick used to be in. Oh, my goodness. If I can get some of those and walk around and look at shirts with a picture of a bit of a beaver on. Don't get much better than that, folks. It really doesn't. Of course, they have some good sandwiches too. But the guy who sent this to me knows I love Bucky, so that's why he was sitting. So. Oh, look, their customer satisfaction has dropped. Well, yeah, it has dropped. It's dropped from like 84 to 82. And they have a new winner here, it looks like. Let's see, what is this group? Quick trip. Not familiar with them. But the main thing here, couple of other places loves. Is that the truck stop group or just I don't know what it says here. The. The big deal in this story was that BUC EE's is down 2%. So I think that's within the margin of error. I'm not going to panic when you promote and you make a name for yourself that you have the cleanest bathrooms. Hey, buddy, you're stepping out because I have seen some of the bathrooms at other places and I don't know what animal did that. Honestly, I don't know how humans could do that and walk away. I just don't. And Bucky says, hey, we're going to have clean bathrooms. And I have never been in there that they were not clean. I even walk in there sometimes when I don't need to go just to see if they're clean. And they are. So I always look to BUC EE's in the Apple store to let me know how the economy's doing. Oh, that is funny. But I'll tell you, on my list, Bucky's is not dropped more and more of them. You know, when I saw they were building the one in Leeds, Alabama, which was kind of close to where we were at the time, and they were going to put 100 gas pumps out there, I thought, there is no way that they are going to have 100 gas pumps that needed to be used. And doggone, when I go by there, I believe 90 of them is in use every time. I don't. You know what a formula. Who thought? Who knew? But it's just a happy place to go in. I like looking at the deer feeders outside. I like looking at the, you know, the, the wood holders and the. The all kind of fire pits they've got. Man, that. That's some good stuff. And you go inside and close keychain, you can get anything you want to with that little beaver on it. And then it just. It just brings happiness, doesn't it? It does to me. I love that little beaver. So, yeah, it's. It's something in the food. Oh, my goodness. I tell you, those cashews, I eat them till I'm sick every time. I can't help myself. I just cannot help myself. I love cashews, Golly, and those brisket sandwiches. I've got one before and just eat in the parking lot. Golly, it's good. And then if I can go the Apple store and play with the latest toys they got. Hey, my day's made, buddy. I mean to tell you. So. I love that stuff. And in my book, they're doing very well all Right. A couple of quick emails here I wanted to share with you. Have a lot going on. And remember, we've got the comment line 308 Big Lake. We review all of those. Not all of them make it to air, but we always enjoy hearing from you guys. 308 Big Lake. That's 308244 5253. All right. From the email bag, this comes from Joe Donnell. Good morning, Bubba. Just a heads up. Still enjoying the podcast. Really want more. Keep up the great work. Have a fantastic weekend. Joe, Donald, Joe, thank you. We get a lot of emails that are wishing us well and we appreciate that. And they're from literally all over the globe. It is so strange to me how podcasts go to so many places and I've given you some of those names. Some of the company countries I can't even pronounce. But we're glad you're out there and you're listening. This comes from jj. JJ Childer. Bubba, both shows are great. Now, he is referring to this one, Bub on the Lake and the Tailgate Tailgate show. If you've not tried that out, that's our college football podcast we have that comes out on Saturday. We're going to look to. We got some people requesting we do that on Friday so they could listen to it go in the high school game. And then we have some radio partners that replay that on Saturday morning if you're not a podcast guy or you missed it or whatever. And all that's on the website for the Tailgate Tailgate show. But back to jj. He says both shows were great. I really enjoy hearing your view on politics. It's refreshing. Always enjoy that. Back on the radio show. I would like to hear more of it. It's great if politics came a permanent portion of the show. I believe that's good. It's coming from the heart. Keep on rocking it, Bubba. You're doing great, jj. JJ is also a musician who has sent us several of the songs that you hear on the podcast that have been done with AI and various things. So jj, thank you for that. We enjoy those. And that's kind of what we're doing on this podcast. We're talking about current events a little bit more. You know, it's strange to me to always find the balance of that. I have people that will email and say, you know, we're so glad you're not doing so many politics and political things. And then we have a bunch of people say, hey, we want to hear some of it. So we'll try to kind of balance that out best we can. And you know what I do, I just kind of go with one. What I'm feeling, I don't sit and watch the news like I used to. It makes for a much more happy and content life, I think if you don't dig into that too much. But it is part of what's going on and we want to always keep an eye on that. I think a lot of it is can be boiled down to some very simple concepts like we were talking about earlier there. It's ridiculous to hold people hostage. There's a legislative process. The filibuster is not a constitutional item. I don't know if we need to have it or not, but I do know this. We don't need to shut the government down when we don't get our way and we have to pitch a temper tantrum. So I think that needs to be taken off the table. This comes from Sean Chatham. Sean is the assistant director for development operations the University of Georgia. So he's a bulldog. Hey Bubba. Catching up on the podcast and finally had a chance to listen to the Remembering Charlie Kirk episode. What an episode. Very powerful. Well done, sir. As a father, couldn't help but be very proud of Hunter as he gave his response. I know that you're proud of him too and I appreciate you telling him and that as you recorded the show. Also couldn't help but get a little choked up. Listening to Betty give her thoughts and admire you for being able to hold it together in response. Ain't always easy. Overall, just really appreciate you and your family, including your spirited child, Caitlin. You are all very special to us. Finally, I wanted to share this image from the UGA football game a couple of weeks ago. It's a group of students that are every ballgame they're always have front side body message of some sort. There's a message on the front as normal and then they turn around. Don't know what that. Don't know that that is formally a way to honor Charlie, but I've got a feeling it was. Thank you so much. Anyway, continue praying for you and your family. Keep up the great work, brother. God bless and go dogs. That comes from Sean. Sean, thank you for, for emailing. I appreciate that. We, we hear from a lot of folks around the SEC and really all of college football. Great time of year with that going on. It's. It's exciting and we cover a lot of that on the tailgate Tailgate show. Not as much here on Bubba on the Lake. We may do a little bit of it just depending on who we can get. I'd really like to have a good sit down with Jim Dunaway. He's very busy doing his stuff and I'd like to catch up with him here on Bubba on the Lake. And he's always a great guest. He was a guest on the Tailgate Tailgate show so we will try to catch up with him a little bit later too. But thank you for that email and we thank you for the feedback as always here. And you can send those to Bubba@bubbaonthelake.com Broadcasting from the Melayella Studio, it is Bubba on the Lake. We are back and we have a very special guest with us that we've wanted to get on Bubba on the Lake for a while and she's very busy. Rosie Langello. She is the sports director for WS FA Channel 12 in Montgomery. Rosie, how are you doing?
C
Hey, I'm good. Busy morning but Wednesdays. Wednesdays are always busy. It's always busy during football season, but it's been a great morning.
A
You know, you stay busy, girl. I mean, you are a mover and shaker. But, you know, Rosie, you are the sports director of a top 75 NBC station, Montgomery, Alabama. That is awesome, girl.
C
Yeah. You know, it's so funny. I had no idea the legacy station that this was when I got down here. And then I quickly learned everybody watches wsfa, and I love that. I'm very, very thankful for it. But that also means that I cover absolutely everything.
A
Yes.
C
You name it, we cover it. So I love that, too.
A
So, Rosie, let's back up, and let's kind of start with your story. Tell us about you, how you ended up in Montgomery at a top 75 NBC station.
C
Yeah. So I'm from Lebanon, Pennsylvania. That's where I grew up. And I got into journalism my senior year of college. I went to Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. It's a state school up there. And I was a journalism major for my senior year. Weird story. If you remember Monet Davis, she was the Little League World Series star that was pitching. And a viral story happened on my campus. One of the Bloomsburg University baseball players said really something just horrific about her online, and it made national news. Well, coincidentally enough, I was changing my major that day to journalism. And I didn't know about the story, but the teacher was like, hey, here's a camera and a mic. Just go find a story. And that was the story I found. And it was a big national story. I tried to knock on the guy's door and everything. I was acting as a true journalist.
A
You were going 60 minutes on him, huh? Knocking on the door with a hot mic?
B
Sure was.
C
Yep. So I changed my major that day. And then I didn't have enough tape. So I went to Northwestern in Chicago for my master's, and it was a blast. One of the best years of my life in 2017. And then I got my first job out of school producing for a station in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I was a news producer for a year, and then I transferred over to Altoona, Pennsylvania, and covered Penn State for two years. Met my now husband in Altoona, Penn State area. And then I went to Providence, Rhode island, for a brief stint a year and a half. Covered the Patriots and all the college basketball.
A
Well, there, that must have been tough covering the Patriots. They had a pretty good run there.
C
You know, it's funny, I covered them the year that Tom Brady left. So Cam Newton came in and Then I have Mac Jones that I covered, too. So strange time to cover the Patriots, but it was. It was definitely unique. And then I got a call from a news director down here who found my tape online and was like, hey, do you want to cover two SEC programs? Some. Some belt swac? I was like, yeah. Like, I love college football. Like, where. Where is this? He's like, montgomery, Alabama. I'm like, the place I learned about in history books. And he was like, yeah. I was like, all right, cool. Let's go. I've never been to the south before, only to Florida, and I know that's not the south. So I came down here and it was a little bit of a culture shock, but I've really adapted and I've embraced the community.
A
Well, so how long have you been at Channel 12 now?
C
Almost four years. I'll be four years in January.
A
Wow. So, I mean, you have been a go getter, but I mean, you. I have to say, you've broke a lot of glass ceilings, so to speak. I mean, especially in sports and being a sports director and, I mean, you have to feel good about what you've accomplished.
C
Yeah, I have so far. I think there's a lot more to accomplish as well. I always want to do more. I always want to flex different muscles. I think I have a lot more to give, and we'll see where that takes me. You know, I'm coming up on a contract and I'm excited to negotiate and see where things take me. But being the first female sports director at wsfa, it means a lot because I've met two of the previous sports directors and they are great people. Everybody knows them. I understand why everybody watches sports at wsfa, and I really hope that I have upheld that standard while being there.
A
Rosie, I have to tell you, I do watch every day. I'd like to see at 5 a little bit more. Can I just be honest?
C
Watch the five o'. Clock. Oh, my goodness. Yeah, I know the five o' clock sportscast would be nice. I don't know what's going to happen with the whole deal with Fox and Gray if we're going to acquire Fox in 2026. I really don't know much about it, but there may be more opportunities for sports to be seen if that deal goes through.
A
Well, Rosie, let me say this. Get good, represent, okay? I've been through this, and you know they're not going to give you a deal that's favorable for you. You got to have somebody fighting for you. So get somebody really good on that.
C
I'm thinking about my mother in law for sure. She's a go getter. You think I'm a go getter? That woman doesn't let anybody get past her. So Jenna. It might be Jenna Hodgins.
A
I've got to ask you about this. You just. You got married not too long ago, but being a. Being a young lady, being on tv, being attractive, you probably get a lot of strange birds out there. How did this guy break through to.
C
Become Mr. You know, he didn't break through. I was the one that went after him. And that was the difference. Really, that was the difference. I did a story on his brother, who was a pitcher on the Penn State baseball team at the time. And at that point, Cody, my husband, was a GA for Penn State, working for James Franklin. He just got done playing for them, and I was doing a story on his brother, and his brother's like, hey, I have a brother that works for the football team. And I was like, okay, cool. Didn't think anything of it. And then he, quote, tweeted the story I did on his brother, and I looked at his profile picture. I'm zooming in, zooming in. I'm like, oh, this guy's pretty cute, you know? Well, on senior day for the baseball team, I was covering the game, and Blake, his brother, was pitching. So his whole family came to the game in Happy Valley. And I recognized his mom. She's from New Jersey, but they live in Tampa. She has this bright blonde hair, very loud voice, northeast accent. You can't miss her. Okay, so she sounded just.
A
She sounded just like she was from Florida.
C
Yes, correct. Yes, exactly. So I noticed her, and I was like, wait, I think I know where I'm going to go introduce myself. And I went up to her and I was like, hey, I'm the journalist that did the story on your son. And she was super nice to me. And she turned around and she was like, this is my other son, Cody. And he shook my hand and introduced himself. And I. The feeling I had right then and there, I was like, this is the. I'm going to marry this man. I'm going to marry this man. I DM'd him about a week later. And so you made.
A
You made the move. You made the move. I made the move.
C
I gave him my number. And here we are six years later with a house in Montgomery and two pups. So we are very, very happy. And it's a great, great little love story we have.
A
So I've heard people that had Sparks with their first kiss. But you had sparks with a handshake.
C
With. Yes, a handshake.
A
There's the dogs. Right on cue.
C
Exactly. Yes, we. We had sparks with a handshake. I'm not sure if he shared the same sparks. He doesn't ever really let me know, but I sure did. And I'll never forget that moment, Rosie.
A
Trust me, he did. He did that. That wouldn't be a problem. It was the best day his life. I promise you. He. I'm surprised he didn't DM you first, though.
C
What'd you say there? You broke up?
A
I said, I'm surprised he didn't DM you first.
C
You know, it's funny. He always said that he thought about it, but I beat him to the punch. I don't know how much I believe him, but I wasn't letting him go. I saw him and I was like, yep, he's. He's going to be my husband.
A
He's the keeper.
C
Yeah.
A
Well, that is great. And Rosie, we have to say, too, we tried to hire you to be to do some sideline reporting for us in our ESPN games at Jacksonville State, but the game that you were going to do this coming weekend got picked up by espnu, so we all got booted out.
C
I know. And you know what? Obviously, you guys do a great job. I listened when Taylor was on, but these two teams are really good. They deserve the national spotlight. I totally understand that. I was excited to flex a new muscle. I've never sideline reported, and I. When I tell you, I dipped into my contacts and said, how do I do this? Give me some advice. Literally, to everyone, I was prepped and ready to go for this day. And thankfully, I'll just keep that in my back pocket for another opportunity that pops up hopefully soon.
A
Well, trust me, we will be calling you again. And you know, I hate when these games get taken away. Eli doesn't like it. Our staff, we enjoy doing them, but, you know, you can't pass up that national audience. I wish they would just come in and say, we'll take your guys. You know, that would be great.
C
I know, but ESPN is not going to do that.
A
They can't lower themselves to do that. They've got to bring in their people. Of course they do a great job, and we've been accommodating them all week. But Kennesaw has become a natural rival for Jack State. And for those of you that don't know, they're both tied for the lead in Conference USA. They play Saturday night it's been moved to 7pm it's going to be a nationally televised game on ESPNU and in the, in Conference USA, they've kind of become our biggest rival just because of their geographic location. They're not very far because in extreme eastern Alabama and they're, they're over this side of Atlanta, so there's only about an hour between campuses. So it's become a real good rivalry.
C
Yeah, I know. I'm disappointed. It's going to be really good game. I'm going to actually try to get up there and watch the game. But my husband is in the playoffs right now. He coaches that Benjamin Russell and they're heading into the second round, so hoping that they win the second round. He'll be very busy on Saturday.
A
I didn't know he coached at Benjamin Russell. That's right here in my back door.
C
Oh, yeah, yeah, he's the offensive coordinator there.
A
Oh, really? Oh, that's cool. That's cool.
C
Yeah.
A
Well, if y' all are up this way, holler at us and we'll try to grab a meal with you guys or something. But I know he's enjoying that and congratulations on his move into the second round. Well, Rosie, what else do we see? I mean, I know you're up for a contract deal and you know, those are always exciting times, but you're expanding. You're doing more podcasts now, interviews like this. You know, you would have been doing a sideline gig if that had not been taken. Where's Rosie going from here?
C
I'm not exactly sure. And it's funny that I say that because I'm a planner. I've always had a plan. I've always had a job before my next job ends, and I don't have that right now. And I'm kind of like, I'm okay with that. I'm really okay with that. I'm in my 30s. I'm well established. I think I'm established within the community as well. So I'm not worried about not having a full time gig. That being said, I obviously need to provide for my family and things, but I think that there are freelance gigs out there. I think with how technology is now in the world and media and how it's consumed, I can start my own gig or start a show with someone. Another. A female podcaster of some sort. So I've thought about that. I'm not sure exactly what is next. I would love to still be at WSFA as well. You know, I'm excited to hear what they offer Me when they offer me, if they offer me. You know what I mean? We're still coming back from a lot of things that have happened at WSFA recently and I think once we get our feet underneath of us, we'll be able to talk about things. But it excites me and it scares me at the same time because I've only ever known local tv. You know, I've had other on end jobs. I was a teller at one point. I used to bartend. Love bartending. Love it, love it, love it. I actually bartended in my first on air jobs on my day off. And get this, I would make more bartending on Sunday and Monday than I would in a two week paycheck in my first on air job. Unbelievable.
A
You know, sadly, I believe that I've heard that same thing from my daughter who keeps threatening to get a bartending gig on the side. And I said, honey, let's just focus on what you're doing in D.C. but you know, being a Baptist, I don't know a lot about that, but. What's your, what's your best drink, Rosie?
C
Oh, to make, I used to make a lot of Tom Collins, like very strange for the area, but I can make a really good mojito and I personally love dirty martinis so I think I can make a pretty good dirty martinis.
A
You know, we stocked up when the, when we had Covid and we got all kind of stuff and, and the, the club here close to us at will a point could not sell alcohol anymore by the drink because of the, you know, everything being shut down. So they were selling stuff though, kind of like a package store. So we loaded up on a bunch of stuff because we thought was gonna have to make a lot of cough syrup and hand sanitizer. And so we, you know, being good Baptist, we still have a lot of it. So you know, we're kind of working through it every time we get a cough, but, you know, slowly but surely. Well, Rosie, I know you're very busy. Thank you for taking time to talk to us and we'd like to meet your husband and hopefully one of your trips to Alexander City. We'll be able to do that. And thank you so much and we're looking forward to working with you in the future. We want to have you back on the Tailgate Tailgate show and we want to get you on the sidelines at Jack State at some point.
C
All right, thank you so much. I appreciate it. It was nice being on. We'll have to do it again soon.
A
And good luck with those negotiations. And we'd like to see you at 5 also on channel 12. Just, just add that to your GM. I think I ran into your GM at the ABA. So next time I see him, I'm going to tell them that. Okay? Thank you, Rosie. We appreciate it. Thank you.
C
Talk to you soon. 1, 2, 3.
A

You can get wings with any of their 26 sauces and dry rubs for takeout and delivery. That's like bringing an entire B dubs home with you, which you can't do. I tried. Because of the lack of walls, at least these 26 sauces and dry rubs are available. To go Buffalo Wild Wings. Let's go sports bar. Well, folks, we are back and we appreciate Rosie taking time to talk with us. She's a very busy lady. And speaking of busy ladies, we have another busy lady. The Lovely. Betty Lou. Betty, how are you? Hey.
B
I imagine I'm slightly less busy than Rosie, but anyway, I don't know, you've.
A
Been pretty busy in this kitchen and I was talking about Thanksgiving earlier and I saw you making dressing and I got real excited.
B
I've already done our dressing. I always do it ahead and I usually do two pans and freeze. I freeze both of them. I partially cook and freeze both of them. But one of them will eat Thanksgiving and the other one I'll either take somewhere or whatever, you know.
A
You know, there's no doubt we'll overeat for Thanksgiving.
B
Oh yeah.
A
I wish we could have dressing more than just once a year. Is there any hope of that? I mean, maybe for a birthday or something.
B
I am going to dive into doing the chicken and dressing. I've never added the chicken in there, you know, bowl of chicken and put it in there.
A
So just cut it up there might be a little.
B
Hopefully.
A
Yeah.
B
Why? What, are you going to choke?
A
I mean, no, I just want little pieces in there.
B
But anyway, I'm looking at this sunset now and I just can't help but give props, you know what I mean?
A
Yeah.
B
I tell you, God paints a beautiful tapestry this time of day on Lake Martin.
A
Yeah, we were real, we were talking about I was the winner here and how you like it and you know, there's not as many boats and all that, but there's not as much going on. It's just, it's just pretty in it.
B
It is. I mean you really can just sit, have a front seat to the nature and all that is so pretty on the little boats out here trying to catch into some fish, you know.
A
You know about panic the other night. We had a power outage the day. The wind was blowing so hard all day long and all I could think of is that I had IV antibiotics in the refrigerator and dressing and if both of those thought out what a mess we would have.
B
Well, the good news was it was so cold outside we were all good to set out on the front porch and it had been fine.
A
Yeah, it was a little nippy. It's warmed up though. It was a chamber of commerce day to day, no doubt.
B
Oh yeah, yeah, it's been very pretty. I even got out and played a little pickleball. You felt good enough to get out and do kind of your thing for a minute.
A
So I, well, I just got out and got on the golf cart for a minute and checked on everything around the neighborhood and it was, it was lovely out there. It really Was.
B
It was.
A
This is really a nice time of year. I do hate that it gets dark so early, but there's. There's a certain calming effect to that too. You can't really get a lot going on, so you might as well just get from the fireplace and go to bed.
B
Well, it almost did.
A
I just sound.
B
I don't. Well, we are eating here in a minute and it's 436.
A
Well, we're on the nursing home schedule. I have to eat promptly at five, you know, so I can get all my IVs in.
B
I told the girls at the pickleball court about 3:30. I said I gotta go. I gotta go get our dinner on the table. I said it's a nursing home program. And then I got IV antibiotics right after.
A
Oh, I know. And. And listen, I appreciate you fixing me beans and weenies. I really do.
B
You are having chicken corn chowder, Daggummit.
A
Okay.
B
But anyway, yeah, it was that or fish. And I decided to do the fish tomorrow night. But anyway. And I also just opened my very first letter from Medicare, so aren't I special?
A
Hey, how does it feel to get those?
B
It doesn't feel very good. Yeah, I felt like going out and throwing it down and like stepping on it several times and, you know.
A
Well, listen, you're in fairly good health though, for those of us that's getting those letters now and we're falling apart. It's a whole nother thing. But anyway, you look forward to Thanksgiving?
B
Yeah, yeah, I am. Caitlin supposed to come in? Bear, you know, barring her flight, doesn't get canceled.
A
Right.
B
Hunter will be here, so it ought to be. Other puppies will be here.
A
Oh, yeah, the barkers will be in order. You know, I talked about it earlier. I. You know, I grew up with big Thanksgiving and big Christmases and we're kind of low tide right now because we're down to four. And you know, the kids haven't brought significant others in and they're not having kids yet. And you know, I'm kind of ready to wrap this up a little bit. I mean, I mean, I got one foot on a banana peel here, folks. I mean, let's, you know where the other foot is.
B
I guess I'm gonna have to go out to town and just see if some of the less fortunate need to come eat with us that like to play board games or something. I don't know.
A
You want to play board games? I do.
B
I mean, and I mean, nobody wants to date anybody that likes a board game. I mean, who have I got? Who you got a kiss to get a board game going around here? You know what I mean?
A
You could start with me. That would certainly get me interested.
B
You do not like a board.
A
Well, some of your board games are horrible. That thing is ridiculous.
B
Gave that away, thank goodness.
A
But I like playing Rummy. And I love Rummy. And Uno.
B
That I play.
A
Uno.
B
Uno. It's okay. I like Uno.
A
Well, I like Uno for the simplicity.
B
Caitlin plays some game called golf or something with cards. It's fun. I don't even know how to play it. I don't remember. But anyway, you know, when we get a bunch of people together with our. Some of the other family, we're not.
A
Talking about Monopoly or anything.
B
No, I mean, but that wouldn't be. I mean, I'm not opposed to Monopoly.
A
But apparently for ages.
B
Well, I mean, what else are we gonna do? We just said.
A
I mean, I used to like a board game where you rolled us. You hop around the board and it gets over in an hour.
B
I like Clue because I want to know who did it right? And where, what room they did it with, what weapon they did it, you.
A
Know, so it moves a little slow, but it's fun.
B
It is. Clue. Clue's always fun. I used to play that with my brother.
A
With a ranch. With a ranch in the library, Right?
B
Yeah. He either let me win or I won just about every time. Every now and then he'd slip away.
A
You're pretty clever on that kind of stuff. Pretty sharp.
B
Hey. Yeah. I've got a little puppy I'm trying to get in my lap. Little Ruby. A little curly puppy.
A
And you're talking baby talk to her.
B
As our kids make fun of us for doing. Because, yes, they are our babies now.
A
Yeah. But anyway, you know, I still want a little beagle.
B
Yeah, that's a mistake. I have a feeling. Well, they're known.
A
They ain't nothing cuter than a beagle.
B
Well, no, and they do have the miniature beagles. Now. Now, I might get one if they didn't get.
A
No, I'm sure they bark. They're. They're. I mean, that's what little ones, bar.
B
But how loud could they be? A little one.
A
Well, we got a little one.
B
Well, that's true.
A
Your ear drums. Now.
B
So she's got the shrillest bark of any dog I've ever heard.
A
I guess so. You think we'll get a neighbor or something to come over and visit? So we have more than just four of us. I don't know.
B
We may go to Some of the neighbors over here, you know, Caitlyn's friends from high school with some of our local neighbors. And we'll probably go over there and play some, or they'll come here. One, one of the other. And so I don't know.
A
Well, I'm looking forward to it. I'm so thankful for so much. And, you know, for. For Thanksgiving, you get to eat, you get to fellowship, don't have to worry about buying gifts.
B
Right.
A
You know, which, speaking of that, I'm.
B
Already Christmas decorating, though. You hadn't even been downstairs. Well, I noticed it out already.
A
I noticed, and I almost posted it online. You have the Thanksgiving tree up downstairs?
B
Yeah, the one.
A
This one here is the Thanksgiving tree.
B
Well, it's on the same level that we'll eat, but the one downstairs is the one I always had up and called it the Thanksgiving tree because it's those colors.
A
Well, you usually put the tree up with the lights on it, but you don't put the ornaments on it till after Thanksgiving. So you call it the Thanksgiving.
B
Yeah, well, you can call that one that you want to, but the other one's already decorated with the ornaments and everything. The chipmunk and all that on it. My chipmunk. I need to tell that story. Stay tuned. Next week you'll hear the chipmunk story.
A
Yeah, we had a real live Christmas vacation.
B
We did.
A
Where they had the squirrel in the tree. We had a chipmunk.
B
Yes. I wasn't there to see it, but it was hilarious. I was trying to do a women's Bible study. Our little tennis Bible girls Bible study. I'll tell you about it next week. Spoiler alert.
A
Oh, so you're going to tease it, huh?
B
I'm going to tease it. Yeah. I'll be back next week, folks. Don't miss.
A
Well, I'm looking forward to it. And I've just got. I'm just thankful this year for health, you know, more than ever. It's. It's been a journey, and we've. We've got friends that are struggling with things, and, you know, I'm just. I'm just thankful for every day. I really am.
B
Me, too. It's been a struggle. Not, I mean, for us, but for other friends. Especially this year.
A
Well, we. I have a term, and you. You hear me use it a lot. I haven't used it on the podcast a lot. I call it Peace in the Valley.
B
Yeah.
A
And that's where things are just calm for a while, you know, and people are happy and things are running smooth. And nobody's sick and, you know, tires are not getting punctured and, you know, all that kind of stuff. And we've really been praying for peace in the valley. We haven't had a lot of that in the last two years.
B
Oh, I would say it's been more like four years. I hate to tally things up here, but.
A
Yeah, well, I would say two years for sure. Yeah.
B
I'd have to write it down, but I'm pretty sure it's closer to four. Yeah.
A
Well, I would like to have just some not all of it fellowship and visit with friends and, you know, there's so many friends we have over the years, we don't get to see them all the time. And I'm. I'm gonna make an effort to call some of them over the holidays and just say, hey, so you don't hear from me and you're a friend, you better call me.
B
We saw a few at a funeral we had to go to this past weekend.
A
Yeah.
B
And that was great to see them. They used to actually live across the street from us when we first got married, so we got to see them.
A
Okay.
B
Yeah.
A
You know, and you're talking about Colonel Jim Roberts. He was laid to rest last week. Who is the dad of three of my very best friends. I get called the fourth Roberts brother sometimes. But it was good to see everybody. A lot of folks from First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, where we used to go, and where I used to serve as deacon with a lot of those guys. And it was good to see him. I mean, I can't believe how old they've all got. Well, you know, not. Not that I have, but.
B
Fred and Phyllis Taylor never age.
A
No, they don't.
B
I don't know what in the world they're doing.
A
I look better now than the day they showed up, I swear. What are they doing?
B
What in the world? I don't know.
A
Whatever they're eating. Find out. We need a. We need a bucket.
B
I used to see them at Subway every now and then. So maybe it's Subway sandwiches. I don't know.
A
Well, I miss. Well, we used to eat them a lot. We played Tenn. We just don't eat.
B
A Subway sandwich every now and then.
A
No, I remember running around the tennis court and, you know, competing. I used to love that. We go to tournaments. Out of town, Mobile, Dothan, you know, and, man, I'm just tickled to death to walk to the garage, you know? It's a different world.
B
I did play pickleball a little bit this afternoon.
A
You're still a great. You're still in great shape, Betty. You're.
B
I haven't played tennis.
A
You're another one. You're, you're, you're just getting better with age and the rest of us. I'm falling apart like Hillary Clinton. You remember them bolts and screws fell out of her pantsuit. You know, they were ushering her in the van. I feel kind of like that. I'm like the Tin Man. I got arms laying around, legs.
B
I don't have any bolts and screws falling out, but I don't know that I'm in that good of shape.
A
Anyway, you're doing pretty good. Well, listen, I appreciate you. I'm thankful for you and I am looking for. This is going to be, I think, the best Thanksgiving we've ever had.
B
Maybe.
A
I know one thing. I'm thankful.
B
I'm very thankful. I am very thankful.
A
Prayerful for our other friends that are going through so much right now and some of their kids. And man, my heart just breaks for.
B
Him, you know, Mine too. It really does. And I don't want to get into it because you know how emotional I get. Heard the Charlie Kirk episode. I can't hold it together.
A
This is been a pretty good podcast and I hate for us to. To go to squalling here at the end, so.
B
And I don't know if you can hear the dog laughing up water behind me.
A
That was pretty loud. That wasn't me being thirsty getting him a drink, so. Well, Betty, thanks for joining us. I know you got a lot going on and. Yeah, I gotta warm up this thankful for you, blondie. Real thankful.
B
Thank you. In other words, he's rushing the podcast off because he's ready to eat soup.
A
It's time for beans and weenies.
B
Oh, me.

Government Shutdown Over? Rosie Langello, and Betty!
Date: November 13, 2025
Host: Bill "Bubba" Bussey
Guests: Rosie Langello (WSFA Sports Director) & Betty Lou Bussey
In this lively pre-Thanksgiving episode, Bill "Bubba" Bussey tackles the latest on the government shutdown, shares local lake happenings, dives into his inbox, and brings on two special guests: acclaimed sports director Rosie Langello and his wife, Betty Lou Bussey. The show blends Southern humor with sharp takes on politics, personal stories, holiday traditions, and reflections on gratitude.
