This podcast is brought to you in part by Coke, Buffalo Wild Wings, Southern Immediate Care, Guaranteed Labels, Central State Bank, Sunrise Docs, bankers Bounty, and Dr. Thomas Dudney. Now back to Bubba on the Lake. Hey, it's Bubba. Bubba. Bubba on the Lake. Bubba, Bubba, Bubba on the Lake. Ye know, I gotta come and check this. Talking people, talking places from Bubba's perspective. On the lake. Let's go. Well, hello again, everybody, and welcome to Bubba on the Lake. I hope everyone is having a great day. We have a really good show for you today. I'm excited about it. You're going to enjoy it. My old friend Jeff Tyson, jt, that used to be on the radio show with us when we were over on 94.5 in Birmingham, is going to call in. We're going to talk to him a little bit about what he's doing, talk about some of the fun we had. We also have an extended segment with the lovely Betty Lou and we are playing with some new equipment and we're going to have a lot of fun with that. You know, the holidays, which we. We had a great holiday season. I've already talked about that. But the holidays are over. They're behind us. A little depressing when you take down the Christmas tree because I love the glow of it in the morning when I get up. But it has been tucked away, even though I pleaded with Betty to leave it out and make it a valentine tree, which I think would be very cute, by the way. But that did not happen. I lost that battle. But the holidays are over. We're in the very final steps of the football season for pros and college. We have a national championship game coming up next week. We're excited about that. We've covered that, by the way, on our other podcast, the Tailgate Tailgate show, and we had a lot of fun with it. I may be accused of drinking on the job on that one. I did not do a very good job as a host. Part of that was we were playing with some new equipment and I was trying to do too much. It's kind of funny. So if you get a chance to listen to it, the Tailgate Tailgate show, wherever you get your podcast, of course, this one is Bubba on the Lake, the one that started it all. Hunting season is still going on. I have not been hunting this year, still, you know, recuperating with a knee. I didn't think I needed to be out there fumbling around in the woods. But I'm going to try to get a hunt in here in January before It's all over. Looking forward to that. And that'll be wrapping up pretty soon, too. And, you know, I. I'll be honest with you, some of these sunny days have kind of given me a little bit of spring fever. I enjoy the winter. You know, it leads up to Christmas, but after we pass first of the year, I'm kind of ready to get back to spring again. And if you're a lake person, you start counting the days to plug day if your lake, you know, drops the level so people can work on things during the winter. So you start getting ready for that, and it's a lot of fun. And as I've mentioned before, you know, we. We talk about some lake things, but it's not all about that. And living on the lake, to me is more of a state of mind. It is, hey, just relax. Chill out. Everything's going to be all right. Work through it, and there's no need to pitch a hissy fit. So that's kind of what I'm trying to. To adapt to now. And we're. We're loving it. We really are. Speaking of that, as we head into spring, you start having the various shows you're going to have, you know, truck shows, camper shows. I'll be honest, I love those things. I really do. I love walking around and looking at things that I probably can't afford and. But you get all kind of ideas, and it's kind of cool to see how they're doing all that Boat shows. Matter of fact, we have one of those coming up. And Russell Marine, who is a big sponsor of this program, will also be at the Birmingham Boat show that's happening January 2nd through the 25th at the BJCC. And I definitely want to make that one. They're bringing the newest boats and personal watercraft models with great show pricing, plus a fully stocked pro shop to get you completely outfitted for the water. Now, you got to look your best out there, guys. You can't go out there on the Jet Ski and kind of halfway do it. You got to look sharp. Also, agents from Lake Martin Realty will be on site. Stop by their booth and find out about getting your own piece of Lake Martin just in time for summer for all the newest boats and gear. You'll find it all at Russell Marine at the bjcc. And we appreciate them being a sponsor of that and a sponsor of this podcast. So, you know, they mentioned about getting your own piece of Lake Martin. We have met more and more people who have made the decision to. To to give up regular life and move to the lake. And I just, I just don't know any of them that thought it was a bad decision after they got here. I know it, it can. You know, everything's pricing now, but you know, prices just don't go down. So the best thing to do is go ahead, jump in and enjoy the appreciation. And then as prices go up, it's on your side not working against you. Just a little bit of financial ideas there. I'm not an expert, but you know, we play one on the radio sometimes. So with all that going on, we're, we're excited. I think it's a great time of year. Like I say, we're wrapping up some sports and we're getting ready for the spring. And boy, these warm days, I. It's cold in the morning and in the afternoon sometimes, but middle of the day, you know, if you get me to 55 or 60, I am. Spring fever is growing on me like moss on a rock. I mean to tell you. So anyway, we have a great program lined up. I think you will really enjoy it and we will get to that right away. And thank you for being here with us at Bubba on the lake. We'll be right back after these messages.

We're back at Bubba on the Lake and on the celebrity hotline, we have a very special guest. He's a man we've tried to tie down for over. We finally caught him today, the one and only JT Better known as Jeff Dyson. Jeff, how are you doing?
D
Hi, fellas, how are you? I'm doing great. How you doing, man? How you doing?
A
Well, I'm doing great. We miss you, man. Hadn't seen you in forever.
D
Well, you and Betty down there living the high life. You know, water skiing and, you know, chelaying. You got shrimp on the bobby. You know, you're in a whole nother world now.
A
Well, is a little more laid back down here. You got to have a golf cart to get around and, you know, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. But other than that, I'm fine. So. Jt, we used to be with us on the radio from time to time. You were the program director at 94. 5 when we were there. And we had a lot. We had a lot of fun back then, didn't we?
D
We had a great time. And I remember, you know, if you want to go way back to when we first met and you guys came down together and came into my office on Highland avenue back in 1995, I think it was, and that whole thing about I'd love to hire you and I'll get right back to you, and I ran it up the old chain and got 25 people involved in making a decision that should have been made, wasn't made at the time. And fast forward, here we are.
A
Well, that was an exciting trip because, you know, for us to be down there and be on Highland Avenue, where 94. 5 was at one time was Wapi I 95 and the home of Mark and Brian. I mean, that was huge to us because we listened. We grew up listening to those guys. I couldn't believe we were even in the same building.
D
Well, I'd come back from being gone for a while. I left and Judy and I got married in 1984 here in Birmingham and then came back 10 years later. And six, way back in the day when I came back, yeah, I went to 94. 5 and then switched over to, you know, mix. It was 94. 5 at the time, called mix 94. 5. And then I joined iHeartRadio a few years later and that's where you and I and Rick ended up getting together and working together.
A
Well, it, I guess it was dick broadcasting at the time, wasn't it?
D
Right? Yeah, yeah, it was.
A
And you used to come and hang out with us from time to time and that was quite a haul. We had, we had Beehner and Ken next door, we had Matt and Scott over there on jocks. And I mean they was just, we had, we had some legends down the hall there. So I mean, it was just, it was a, it was a true radio floor, wasn't it?
D
Well, I'm telling you, you know, and Carrie Lambert down there in the corner office running the whole show at the time there. And you know, so many different folks in and out of there. And then, you know, obviously everybody's kind of scattered and gone and done their own thing now. But everything's looking good here. And I'm doing the morning show on 105.5. It's actually simulcast at Gadsden on the Big Wax up there and also in Huntsville at WBHP and down in Tuscaloosa, WRTR every morning.
A
Well, jt, you're, you're doing like serious stuff though now, right? I mean, you're like news talk because you, you wasn't all that serious back in the day.
D
I'm still not serious even though I'm doing news talk now. Yeah, 155 we are see every morning and it is a news talk format. I'm, you know, Clay and Buck are on Sean Hannity and Michael Berry and Glenn Beck. You know, that's our lineup on, on the station I'm on now and then still, you know, doing afternoons on Magic 96 every afternoon from Florida 7. So yeah, I'm still pretty active here in Birmingham and do a bunch of Voice tracking for iHeartRadio around the country. So I stay pretty busy.
A
JT, for people that are not in our business. And you said voice tracking, they probably don't understand. Explain how that works just a little bit.
D
Well, you know, most radio shows you listen to outside of morning drive are recorded, you know, in 95% of the stations around the country. If you're listening to radio, traditional radio, it's probably going to be a recorded show that the guy or gal lays in voice tracks into the computer and then they play at certain times. Everything's digitalized now so you can do a five hour radio show and record your breaks for those five hours in about 15 to 20 minutes. So you don't have to sit and wait for the records or songs to end anymore and listen to, you know, all the stop sets. You just lay your tracks and it sounds like you're there. And you can be in any city you need to be in from your computer in your own studio.
A
Yeah, it's kind of wild how that can be done now. Do you miss doing the fun stuff though, like running of the Goobs? That was one of my favorites when you, we, we actually got paintball guns and you dressed up in the appropriate gear and you tried to run down a slick bank that had pine straw all over it and gather checks off the trees. The further you went, the more money you got. And I'm going to tell you, I still, when I try to explain that event to people, I get to laughing and cry. I can't even get it out because it was so much fun.
D
Look, if you run sideways on a hill of pine straw at about a 45 degree angle, it's not going to go well. It's slick as ice.
A
So.
D
Yeah, and it was a, it's probably a 50 yard run from the first tree to the last one. And, and, but there was a total, I think three or four hundred dollars that I ended up grabbing. And then as I get to the finish line, I don't. And you even had my wife Judy down there cheering you guys on, which I'm still kind of, you know, bent on that one. But anyway, I think, I don't know if she was cheering for you guys to hit me or for me to get the envelopes, but I got to the, I got to the end and I thought we were done. And all of a sudden, you know, there's one last paintball that hit me on the back of my hand with just a little thin glove and I'm like, oh, wow, wow, you're still firing. So that was a, that was pretty good. But yeah, I appreciate the 300. I think that was for your birthday or Rick's birthday.
A
Yeah, I think it was Rick. I think it was Rick's at the time, but. And jt, you also starred in several other episodes. I remember one case where you backed over a streetlight and tried to pay the kids not to tell anybody.
D
Well, look, you know, I wasn't in my own car. I was in a big U Haul moving van. I mean, one of the big box ones. And you know, if you're not used to driving and backing those things up, you know, you can get confused pretty quick. Well, the back bumper stuck out about four Feet, you know, compared to a regular vehicle. And dang it, if that lamp post at the apartment complex didn't get my way, next thing you know, it's on the ground, sparks are flying, and there's a bunch of kids out there just yucking it up, laughing and running around screaming like, look, y' all need to go home now.
A
Nothing to see here.
D
Nothing to see. Nothing to see here. But did you actually offer, you know.
A
Did you offer money not to tell their parents you did it?
D
I don't know anything about that. I don't know what you're talking about. See, over the years, people embellished the story. I think that's what's happening with you here.
A
I think you had some fresh money from Running of the Goobs.
D
Look, there might have been some biscuits involved, but I don't know about any cash.
A
Oh, gosh, Jeff, that was just the one time.
D
You know, a lot of times, you know, Bubba, you and I and everybody else in radio, sometimes you get to telling stories on there, and all of a sudden, you know, you know, you end up sticking your foot in your mouth that, you know, comes back to haunt you. And I'll never forget that time. It was early on when you guys were still playing those big softball games that I went out and played softball with you guys for the first time. And so I'm thinking, okay, I played college, you know, softball, and pretty athletic in school. And football. Yeah.
A
Played a little ball.
D
Yeah, yeah, played a little ball. So I get out there and I'm not starting. Okay, that's fine. And then, you know, I'm the new guy. Well, there was a guy named School Closing Tony at the time that was playing. And all of a sudden, you know, he single and he kind of jogs down to first base, struggling a little bit, and he gets back to the dugout, and all of a sudden there's a pinch runner there. And. And I'm like, what the heck's going on here? Why is this guy that can barely get down the field here playing and I'm not getting any action? So we. We recapped the game the next morning. You remember this? And then so. So we're telling the story and. And I said, what? What the heck's going on with this guy? School Closing Tony playing ball. Before I'm out there, he could barely even get to first base. And by the time he got back to, you know, the dugout where he's got a pinch runner in for him, he's leaning up against the chain link fence, barely Catching his breath. I mean, it's like the guy's got one lung. And then all of a sudden, the whole studio went dead silent. Y' all are looking at me like, jt, what did you just say? And then, you know, the Rick and Bubba bed starts playing. Y' all go to commercial break. And you guys said, jt, he's only got one lung. He's got cystic fibrosis. And I'm like, what? Why didn't you all tell me that? Then we come back from the commercial and you or Rick, JT on the phone wants to talk to you. School closing. Tony's with us and thank God. I mean, he's the best. He let me off the hook. He laughed with us and everything. And I said, I am. So I apologetic. I did not mean anything about it. I'm so sorry for saying that. I didn't know what was going on. And these guys just kind of let me get going. Yeah, that was one of the ruins.
A
Yeah. We would let you walk the plane, no doubt. Well, you know, and I don't know if you even know this or remember this, but Tony passed away. He had every disease that had a three letter abbreviation. You name it, he had it. Do you remember his funeral? The deal with that?
D
I do not.
A
The, the funeral director, you know, he. He had filled out a pre need plan. You know, you. You purchase that and they give you a book, you know, and you pick out, you know, what, what kind of casket you want, what your pallbearer songs you want. You know, all the details, right? So Tony passes away and his parents are meeting with the gentleman who runs the funeral home. And they get Tony's book out and they start flipping through the pages and they're blank. There's nothing on it. And they get to the very last page and he says, I want to be buried in a clown suit with a red foam nose because this body has made a fool out of me. And now that I don't need it anymore, I want to make a fool out of it. And he wanted to be buried in the casket in a clown suit. How about that?
D
Did they grant his wish?
A
I talked to the. See, the funeral director did not want this information to be widely known. But Tony's parents, his dad called me and was laughing about it and said, what a way, what a way to go out. Right? Because he did. He had everything under the sun.
D
That guy had one of the best attitudes ever.
A
Absolutely. You remember on the cruise, he won the hairiest chess contest with one hair. And so yeah, I'll never forget looking out the window and seeing that going on. So the funeral director was going, I can't do this because it's going to make me the laughingstock. As a matter of fact, he didn't know that I knew. And I called him and I said, hey, I'm about to come up and to the visitation. Do you need me to bring anything from Birmingham? You know, any. Anything special? Maybe like a red nose? And it was just silence on the phone. And he knew then that I knew. And, you know, they ended up. They ended up putting him in a suit and putting a red nose on him, taking a picture of it and putting the picture next to the casket. So that was pretty close. That was pretty close.
D
I tell you, one of the one, the funniest story that I'll never forget is when you guys bought the restaurant, Rick and Bubba's Burgers, or whatever it was called. And we'd gone down to Lynn Winfrey's hunting camp and, and I got a deer late in the game and Lynn had already come in. He's the one that would clean him up. And, you know, I didn't know how to clean a deer. I'd only probably been hunting two or three times at this point. So I ended up. Lynn says, jt, just, just take that over to the processor. And it was a dough, but it still hadn't been field dressed or cleaned out yet. So I'm like, all right, I guess I'll do that, you know, so I'm riding back down, you know.
A
You're not in a truck, though?
D
No, I'm in a Brown Hornet.
A
Yeah, you're in a car and you, what'd you put?
D
I'm in a car.
A
You put bags in the trunk and put a deer in there that was still bleeding out?
D
Well, yes, it was 85 Buick LeSaver and the trunks about the size of a regular car. Now it was huge. So I laid out about three different, you know, big black Home Depot sized trash bags. And I laid that deer on top of those trash bags and I didn't want to, you know, get the blood all over the place. So I get to the processor and he goes, what do you got? I said, I got a dough here. He goes, open the trunk. He said, no, no, no, you can't. Don't drop that off. We process here. We don't clean them, you can't, and all kinds of laws. I can't mix a deer like that with deer that have been cleaned. You got to move on. I'm like, where am I going to take this deer now? So I'm thinking, that's it. I'm just getting rid of the deer. So I got to find a dumpster. So I pulled into your restaurant and it's Saturday night and the place is packed with people. I said, I can't get out of this Brown Hornet field with saber and take a deer out of the trunk with all these kids around here. So I bailed on that idea. And then I went over to the, the Pelham Civic center and did a, you know, like you're throwing a hammer in the Olympics, a big thing with a cord on it. And I launched the deer into the woods. And in my, you know, haste to get out of there quick, I shut the, the trunk back down on it. And some of that black trash bag came out of the trunk and was hanging out the back. But I didn't know it. With blood.
A
With blood on it, right?
D
Oh, blood, yes. Blood dripping all over it. But I didn't know it. So I get into the center of Hoover, right there at the intersection of Highway 150 and 31 by the Galleria. And it's Saturday night now, about 10 o', clock, and my trunk has got this black bag with blood dripping off it. All of a sudden, Hoover police, they pull me over and I'm like, get out of the car, come back around here. And I'm still in camo and an orange hat. And he says, come on back here and look at this. He goes, what is this? Open your trunk. He thought there was a dead body in there. And I opened the trunk. He goes, what is this? I said, well, as you can see, I've been, I went hunting and I had the deer and yada, yada, yada. He says, you can't drive around, put that bag in the trunk and get out of here. You can't be riding around Hoover with a bloody bag dripping out of your trunk.
A
You're dripping blood out of the back of your trunk, driving all over Hoover.
D
Not good.
A
Not good. Not good, J.T.
D
Oh, good stuff.
A
Oh, we had fun, didn't we?
D
Every time we ended up getting together on the air, I'm doing something else. There was, I mean, a story always come out of it. And that's what was so much fun with it.
A
Do you remember we used to, on the opening day of hunting season and we, we. We had those days at various places, we'd always try to watch a scary movie the night before and scare ourself to death. Do you remember watching that? Mel Gibson movie, it's called Signs, I think with them things in the corn, walking around with those feet. Do you remember that?
D
Right. Where were we watching it may have.
A
Been down at Lynn Winfrey's, I don't know.
D
Yeah, well, I remember another movie that Nikki Dean had put on. It was inappropriate that all. All of a sudden Coach Burgess was down there and this movie's going, and I'm laying on one couch and there's about six other guys sitting in chairs and on couches and Mickey Dean's flipping channels and everybody's like, get that off. Everybody's making noise. Get that movie off. We can't. That's inappropriate down here at the hunting camp. Well, next thing you know, here comes the door, comes flying open because Coach Burgess trying to get to sleep because we're all getting up at 5 o', clock, you know, we're idiots still up at midnight. He goes, what the heck's going on? And then me, it's right before he looks in my direction, Mickey Dean had thrown me the remote. And Coach Burgess looks over at that TV, goes, what the. And I said, hey, hey, hey. JT's got the remote. I don't know what he's going on. I'm like, what the. Mickey. Oh, that was not good. Not good.
A
You know, I missed that when I was in the bed. You know, I didn't stay up too late. It wasn't a problem for me. Thanks, Mickey D. Oh, gosh, jt, that's too funny. Listen, we're going to take a quick break and come back. Can I talk to you just a little bit more about your family and where everybody is now?
D
Sure, absolutely.
A
We'll be right back in just a minute. Stay tuned and don't go anywhere.

You know one thing I love about Buffalo Wild Wings? You can get wings with any of.
C
Their 26 sauces and dry rubs for takeout and delivery.
D
That's like bringing an entire B dubs home with you, which you can't do. I tried. I've knocked down so many walls only to then be told to halt construction because I'm not zoned to be a sports bar.
C
Kind of just looks like a big pergola or something. Because of the lack of walls, at least these 26 sauces and dry rubs are available to go.
A
Buffalo Wild Wings. Let's go Sports bar.

We're back with Jeff Tyson, better known as jt. You hear him all over the country on various radio stations. He used to be our program director at 94.5 and we had a lot of fun back in the day when we first carried the radio show to Birmingham. Jt, we just been reliving some of the memories and we've only really scratched the surface of it. But I wanted to ask you about your family. Everybody good? Where is everybody at? And your son Michael, who played at Alabama and went on to coach with Lane Kiffin. Is he going to LSU now? Where's he coaching now?
D
Now I'll get you up to speed. You know, I'm doing Alabama's Morning News with JT every morning on 105.5 WERC and in Birmingham with iHeartRadio and my daughter, she is the art teacher over at Mountain Brook Elementary. And then Michael is coaching football right now with West Virginia and Rich Rodriguez. Judy is still here. Her mom moved in with us as her dad passed away about a year ago. So Judy retired from driving a Hoover City school bus after 17 years and takes care of her mom here in our home. So yeah, Michael, as you know, went to Lane, went down to FAU with Lane after he left Alabama. Lane was his offensive coordinator. Then he went over to Stanford University, running backs coach for a year and then Lane took him to Ole Miss for three years as an analyst and then a tight ends job opened up in Jacksonville State. And Rich Rodriguez was the coach at the time and so he hired Michael to be the tight ends coach. And when he left to go take on the West Virginia head coaching job, he took Michael with him. And they just wrapped up their first season, which was kind of rough, rebuilding the team where a lot of guys had transferred out the portal and now they're back to recruit and it's crazy time now getting guys to come back in across the country, you know that. So Rich Rod has got Michael on staff again. He did a great job with him. So he loves West Virginia, he loves those mountains up there, and him and Rich Rod have a. Have a special bond. But no, he's not. He's not going to LSU with Lane Kiffin. No, but he does still have a great relationship with Lane, that's for sure.
A
Well, we enjoyed the time he was at Jacksonville and of course, Rich Rod was there and helped us move to D1. It's been a good move for Jack State, as they've been now to three bowl games in a row and seem to be flourishing in that role. So. But Michael was. It was a lot of fun, you guys coming up to watch Michael watch the games. I mean, while Michael was coaching.
D
Absolutely. And the bird, the mascot, Cocky. I got to tell you a funny story. What is it? What's the. Is it Cocky?
A
Yeah. Cocky is his name. Yes. Huh?
D
That's right. Well, Michael's son Nicholas is. He's, you know, gonna be 4 years old and at the time, you know, he was three and he's spooked to death of mascots. He. He'd look around for Cocky and he liked to dance like him and stuff. But if Cocky got too close, he'd freak out. Like, I mean, he would just jump up and Alexandra's lap and, you know, so anytime he goes anywhere now, he's always asking, is there going to be a mascot there, Daddy, or is there a mascot, Momma? I don't know about going if I'm going to have to see a mascot. So I don't know what it is with kids, whether they either love them or they don't like them. But yeah, we had a ball at jsu and I think you're right. Rich Rod did a fantastic job with that program and left it in good hands for everybody now. And. Yeah, how about three bowls in a row? That's just. That's incredible.
A
Yeah. And, you know, I grew up there. I actually sold programs and Cokes as a little Cubsky out there. So I've seen a lot of changes over the years and it's, it's a lot of fun. It's fun being part of it. Well, jt, we just miss all the camaraderie we used to have. We never did really get to see you much after you changed stations and we changed stations and you're, you're just busy out there doing the, the morning talk show thing and so getting up early, you still good with that?
D
No, never, never have been. I tell you, if you got to get up when it's dark out, your body just seems to tell you, what are you doing? I mean, go back to bed.
A
Right?
D
But I could go to bed, you know, I could go to bed, you know, 7 o' clock at night and getting up at 3:30, you know, once you hit the shower. You know how it is, you did it forever. It's just, it's a different world, you know, when you get up that early and. But you know, no, I'm not, you don't get, and you don't ever get used to it. But I still enjoy it. Everybody says, jt, when are you going to retire? You know, I'm in my mid-60s now. And I said, look, if I hit the lottery, I'd probably do this morning show. I just like, you know, talking about what's going on in the news and talking to listeners and it's just, I enjoy what I do. If I didn't, I would have retired, you know, a couple of years ago. But yeah, I still really, really enjoy what I'm doing.
A
Well, that's the key. I mean, you got to have fun doing it or it's, you know, there's really no amount of money that'll make you get out of bed that time of day.
D
Look, if I could change the hours and work that out some way, I'd be, that'd be much better. But it is what it is. Right.
A
So are either one of your kids married?
D
Oh, both of them are married. Michael's got, Alexander's his wife. They've, he, they got married. Gosh, how many years has it been now? They've got a four year old and a one year old little girl and she's got a nine year old girl and a seven year old little girl and married to Chase, he's in real estate. Alexandra's financial planner. And both my kids, you know, they've done really well. I'm really proud of everything both of them have done and they've got great families and it's nice, you know, knowing you got, you know, a daughter in law and a son in law that you truly love and it's been a great family ride and we're still enjoying it.
A
Yeah, I remember when she was in junior high and we did a ad in the, in the program there at Hoover and I think we had her picked up, you know, holding her horizontally and she was just so little at the time, but it's hard to believe that they've grown up so much now.
D
She was a cheerleader at Spain Park High School and yeah, she had a ball doing that and she went to Alabama and then after Michael graduated from Hoover High School, he went to Alabama as a walk on and both of them graduated from Alabama and have done really well.
A
Well, jt, come see us, man. We miss you.
D
Well, I'll come see you this summer. Tell ol Herb Winches, you know, we'll get on your boat, Bubba, and ride over there and have us some lunch sometime.
A
Yeah, well, look, we'll do another podcast while we're riding on the boat. How about that?
D
I like it, I like it. I've enjoyed it, bubba.
A
Thank you, J.T. thank you, man. And tell Judy we said hello. And the kids and continued success, my friend.
D
And Betty and your kids as well. Thank you, Bubba.
A
Will do. See you. That's J.T. jeff Tyson. You still hear him on radio stations all over the place. I heart stations. And he is still at it and making it happen every day. Jt, thanks for being with us. And we'll be right back in just a minute here on Bubba on the Lake.
D
One, two, three.
C
We'll be right back. What a matchup we've got, folks. Just non stop action. The energy is electric and the fans are all in. An intense game like this calls for a Coca Cola. Ah, crisp and refreshing. A
We're back everybody and welcome to Bubba on the Lake. And joining me in the studio is the lovely and always exciting Betty Lou. Betty, how are you hun?
B
I'm doing great. How's everybody today?
A
Well, we're doing good. We're playing with some new equipment here and trying to. I can't find my area.
B
Yeah, this is a test run to say the least.
A
Yeah, I'm trying to switch video and audio all at the same time and keep some train of thought going which is not easy for me anyway. So that always turns into a problem. So bet we we've got some folks. One of the first things I wanted to mention, if you go to our website you'll notice there is a new button on there called Betty's Corner. And Betty, what all is going to be in your corner?
B
I have no idea. I didn't. I just sat down and looked at your screen and I said, what's Betty's Corner? I didn't know I had a corner. I felt like I'm always in the corner somehow. But anyway, nobody or stuff, I don't know, nobody's that I like.
A
Nobody puts Betty in the corner.
B
Nobody puts Betty in the corner.
A
You knew that.
B
But anyway, yeah, here I'm gonna try.
A
This shot here, see if this works. Oh, there's a two shot.
B
A two shot.
A
Yeah, now we got a two shot up there.
B
I'm just me and you.
A
Well, yes.
B
Yeah, me and the dog.
A
It's me and you. And we're just playing with it, see what it would do. I like. I like you on there. Yeah. Ruby is wandering around here somewhere, so.
B
Stick her little pile up here in a minute.
A
So, Betty, we've got people who. They keep wanting your recipes, they want your dressing, they want Chex Mix. Chex Mix.
B
I sent you the dressing recipe already.
A
So it's written out.
B
You sent me a written version out? I sent it to you already.
A
Okay, well, I need to find that Logan fixed that, so. Okay, we'll. We'll get those posted up there momentarily. We're still trying to get over the. The New Year's and get all that. Get all that going.
B
Takes a while.
A
It takes a village, doesn't it?
B
It really does. Yes, it does. And 2026 is shaping up to be kind of busy. So anyway, we're. January has been doctor's appointments for me that I had to reschedule. With everything going on with you last year, I've rescheduled a lot of stuff. So for about three or four weeks in a row, I'll be doing different doctor appointments. Just, you know, nothing major.
A
You all right?
B
Oh, yeah, yeah.
A
Just, you know, just tune up.
B
Yeah.
A
Just change the oil, all that stuff.
B
Yeah. So anyway, just stuff you got to do, you know, once a year or Supposed to do once a year. Some. Some of them twice a year.
A
Yeah. Well.
B
Yep.
A
We're just glad it's all going well.
B
Yep. Yep. Everything's good.
A
And, you know, we've been playing with what I'm now calling the micro TV table here. I've tried to build a TV station on a table that has giant wheels on it. How do you like that?
B
Well, I keep ramming my knee up in here under it. Somehow. There's a board that I feel like we don't need. It's extra.
A
Well, it's not. It's not the kind of desk that you would sit under. You're just supposed to be over there on that side of it.
B
Well, that's where I'm at.
A
And I think we could. I think we could fit one more guest beside you.
B
Yeah.
A
And here I can try this robotic camera shot here.
B
So you want to try it with.
A
See here.
B
Here's the pup. She could be the extra guest.
A
There you go.
B
Ruby. She's going to be the extra guest. Okay, now you got to get down. Okay. That was exciting. Yeah. Oh, my.
A
We're crazy. I know.
B
All right, well, what are we talking about? I had no topic given to me.
A
Well, we really didn't have a Topic. This was more of an experimental thing to see if I could punch all these buttons. I guess I need a foot pedal on this.
B
So this is the topic, what we're doing here.
A
Yeah, kinda. Kinda. And this chair squeaks and one of the wheels fell off of it, but other than that, it's.
B
Yeah. So far I haven't lost a wheel, so that's good, I guess.
A
And just so everyone can see what it looks like in here. Oop, wrong button.
B
This is a very raw test, Y' all probably should.
A
Wait a minute where. Oh, there it is. There it is. There's the two shot. You see the back of Eddie's head and me sitting at the desk jammed over here in the corner.
B
So that's kind of the back of my hair. So I didn't know he was going to be doing that.
A
Well, let's. Let's get a look at it now.
B
I'm a threat to have a part back there, you know?
A
No, no, but.
B
Got a little cowlick action.
A
You're good. The cow.
B
Say, and I'm staring right in the mouth of some big hog you killed years ago. I can't remember that big thing.
A
Yeah, that's. That's called a javelina. It is ugly and it was. It was killed in Texas. Let me see if I can. I might can get a shot of it.
B
This is quite the. The office space in here, y'. All.
A
There it is.
B
You might have a javelina staring at you or, you know, just no telling. Lots of ham radio gear in here.
A
And let's see, I got. If I'm gonna use the javelina shot, I'm gonna have to program it. I think this is why you should have somebody switching video while you are switching audio.
B
Where Sir William Bussey Jr. When you need him.
A
Yeah, he's. He's on assignment today.
B
Yes.
A
He'Ll be back.
B
Well, yeah. All right, well, I'll get those recipes. I didn't type up the Chex mix ones because you just mentioned that.
A
Yeah.
B
You have the dressing one, so you can put that in my corner and I'll get the checks. Mix one to you, and I'll be thinking of some other stuff.
A
Well, I would. I would send the one that you've already sent. Send it again just for safety sake.
B
Yes, that. Yeah, I know how you operate.
A
Well, it gets a lot going on. Like, going on here, much like trying to switch this.
B
Oh, yeah, this is. Well, if I knew how, I'd kind of help, but I don't know how.
A
Well, it's. It's It's.
B
I'm just the talent.
A
Yeah, you're mindless talent. And I would stay that way, trust me. I've learned behind the scenes engineering and trying to do production is much. A much larger headache on most of these things.
B
Yeah, it looks like it. It's very. It's compact, but kind of.
A
Well, it's. You got to pull your shoe off here and you know, do a little switching along the way. So. I noticed we were just looking at the lake Martin magazine just came in.
B
Yeah, I just picked that up at the bank while ago when I was there.
A
They have them and this. I don't know if it's a January issue or this time of year. January, they do a swimsuit edition.
B
They do. And it's all a lot of college kids and whatever. Yeah.
A
I started saying, why wasn't you in that?
B
Cause they don't. I said, they want to people to actually look at the magazine. You know what I mean? So that's why they don't have people like me.
A
And they would. They would be. They would be flying off the shelf.
B
Oh, yeah. Be flying off the shelf. People would go, can you believe that? Girls in here.
A
Betty, you're a beautiful woman.
B
Yeah. Thank you. Well, I'm glad you married me. So.
A
Well, it's like I told you, I've been studying the female since about first grade, about six years old. And you're. You're right up there on the top.
B
Shelf, and you've stuck with it. You got biggest flirt as a senior. So first grade to senior year, same thing.
A
Well, I think some of that was unfair. I mean, if you just talk to people. If you just talk to people, sometimes you get that. You get that, you know, tied to. But look, I just like being friendly with everybody.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
Not friendly, Henry, but friendly.
B
Yeah.
A
You know.
B
Oh, I got you. Yeah.
A
Don't care. Too far.
B
No. Well, we've lasted 37 years. I don't guess you carried it too far.
A
No. Hanging in there. Hanging in there.
B
Or it'll be 37 in August, actually. Yeah, it's the year of 37.
A
So we're. We're counting down the days. If you live on our lake, and I'm sure there's other lakes like this, other bodies of water that are counting down to plug day.
B
Right.
A
Which is when they actually start filling the lake back up.
B
Right.
A
So that it will be up in, you know, I guess probably April ish or so. So it'll be full pool and you can get out and get on the water again. And, you know, all the winter work is done and all that stuff.
B
Restaurants will be opening up again that close in the summer.
A
That's usually the one. I bring up the restaurants there you are doing.
B
Well, we've already. I mean, people are already planning a trip to the landing, you know, with.
A
Yeah.
B
You know, when it opens. What is it, late April, I think, or something like that. Or whenever it is April.
A
Well, usually they, you know, everything kicks in full gear first weekend in May. In that. When.
B
Yeah, but he opens a little bit before that.
A
Okay.
B
Yeah, because we were talking about it the other night.
A
It's so strange. Like, you know, outside it's 30 degrees right now. And you walk outside and you're very cold and you think, you know, this summer it's going to be scorching hot. I mean, scorching hot.
B
I can't decide. I think I kind of like the winners here. You know, you keep doing your hand like that and I'm like, are you signaling me? Are you? You know.
A
We do your hand that same. You see the camera, it's blinking and turns blue. Put your hand down. Okay.
B
Okay.
A
Now move your head back and forth a little bit. See, it'll follow you around.
B
How about that? That's fun.
A
Without a camera operator, it'll follow you.
B
Gotcha.
A
Uh oh, I went out. I think I held my hand up. I kicked it off. I'm gonna turn it back on. There we go.
B
This is a work in progress, folks. Yeah, we will get it figured out.
A
We're playing with this, just seeing what we can do, and we might actually.
B
Have some topics that y' all want to listen to.
A
Yeah, that was. That would even be a better. Better thing.
B
Better setup.
A
So many people have said, yeah, well, why don'. You do video? Well, you don't understand how much more complicated it is. And it kind of cuts into the fun factor because you're busy fooling with all this stuff.
B
You're a bit of a perfectionist also, so.
A
Really? You think so?
B
I. Yeah, kind of. I don't know. You're organized chaos, I guess, in here. But you are a perfectionist when it comes to audio and stuff like that.
A
Well, I mean, you want it to work. You want it to work.
B
You want it to work and do what it's supposed to do. But yeah, sometimes when it's just you doing it, it's harder.
A
Yeah, it is. That's the truth. That is the truth. You hit that one on the head.
B
Oh, man.
A
So I'm go back to the two shot there for a Minute. So what, what do you have planned and for the spring? Are you. I know you're, you're heavily involved in pickleball and it was somewhat of a disaster when it was so cold you couldn't play today.
B
Yeah, I wasn't a disaster. I kind of figured last night it was going to be too cold. A lot of the ladies were wanting to play like at 9:00 clock this morning. 9:30, whatever. And it was still like 39 degrees. So anyway, I just went on, ran my errands and I'll play another day in the sunshine.
A
Well, you'll have plenty of, plenty of warm days, I think. I think it's going to be fun.
B
Oh yeah, it'll work out.
A
And I hope I can get out there and join you. Yeah. Knees doing good. I'm going down steps now. Pretty easy.
B
So I keep trying to get you out there. Just feed me some balls if nothing else.
A
Well, I can, I'd love to do that. And I've got a little cart, you know, I can take the balls out of and feed them. Left over from tennis days.
B
Yeah. Or we've got that bucket of balls. We just throw that little thing out there.
A
The thing about the cart is you don't have to bend over. It's up there next to you. That's the key.
B
Okay.
A
If you're gonna feed a bunch of them, you want that? You want it right there next to you.
B
Yeah. Now it's all coming out. Yeah. We don't want to bend over. Well, yeah, but anyway.
A
Yeah. Who does?
B
So what else is on tap for the spring? We got a couple of trips in February or you do?
A
Well, we're trying to get up some. We're trying to work that around, work schedules and everything else, which is never easy to do. But we're, we're going to try to do a couple and hopefully go down to the Cape to see the Artemis to launch and do. Do a podcast down there at the ca. I mean, it wouldn't get any bigger to me to be, you know, at the Cape. And you remember we went last. Was it a couple of years ago. We went in February and the, the mission got scrubbed because of high winds. But we took a tour of the Cape while we were there and we actually went out and we were right in front of the Falcon 9 rocket that Elon was going to blast off. And if, I mean, if I could sit there and do a podcast with that rocket, Betty, do you realize how.
B
Huge that would be? Oh, that'd be huge. Yeah.
A
I Mean, I would go nuts.
B
You really would. That's been three years ago, I'm pretty sure, I think. But anyway, yeah, that was exciting. We went. Flew all the way over there, and then it got scrubbed, so we got to. To visit in depth all the museums.
A
What is wrong with that? What is wrong with that?
B
Well, you know, one. My cup of tea, but it was all right. I mean, I went and enjoyed it, and I don't know if I'll be going on this trip or not. I think it might just be you and Hunter. I don't know. We'll say that.
A
Well, we're. We're talking about it, and we'll see what's available, but, you know, we don't. We've never traveled a lot. I mean, we've. We've been to a few places. I don't act like we never go anywhere, because we have. But we don't travel like we have friends that travel a whole lot more than us. And our traveling was always kind of coming to the lake, you know, that was our getaway. So.
B
So now that we live at the lake, we're trying to figure out, well, do we want to go somewhere different or whatever, so. And we used to go the beach a lot, and we hadn't been to the beach lately, so we may do a little beach trip, short trip sometime, you know?
A
Yeah. I would like to go back to Gulf Shores. I would like to visit some other places. You've never been to Vegas. I'd like to go to Vegas. Even if we had to go for a weekend trip, I would love to go to Vegas. Vegas.
B
It's not too bad of flight, is it? Or is it?
A
No, I mean, it's. It's not quick, but it's. It's tolerable. Yeah, the. I'd love to go see the Sphere. I'd like to see a concert in the Sphere.
B
Yeah, we were trying to work that out, but with everything else going on the next month or two, we. I don't think it's going to work out. We were trying to work it out with some friends and. Doesn't look like that's going to come to fruition.
A
Why. Why do you. Why do you say that?
B
I guess because we told him we couldn't go.
A
No.
B
No other stuff.
A
I didn't say that. I didn't say we couldn't go. I said because it was kind of late, plugging in the calendar. We're gonna have to see what we can do, but we could do that over a quick weekend. I Mean, we could fly out on a Friday, come back on a Monday or Sunday, you know.
B
Yeah, well, I don't know. We'd have to look at it.
A
You need to see some of those hotels and the waterfalls and all. I mean, water fountains and all. That's kind of cool.
B
Oh, yeah. I would love just to go and tour all the different hotels and all that. I don't gamble or anything. Don't know anything about it.
A
Yeah, I don't care about that. But you need to walk through there, see the sites, see the people who are paying for that building, you know.
B
Yeah. And the food's good, I'm sure, you know.
A
Oh, yeah.
B
You know.
A
You know, we could get remarried in like, well, those Elvis chapels if you wanted to.
B
That would be funny. What? If you look, we're getting married by Elvis.
A
Yeah. How many people on tv, no matter what the sitcom is, has been to Vegas to get married or got married or married the wrong person or whatever.
B
A lot of them. I know an episode of Friends. There was one Big Bang Theory, and I'm sure there's others, too, but anyway. Yeah, that's funny.
A
I want to go see Yellowstone.
B
Yeah, we're trying to get that plan for some time.
A
You want to go out to wine country? Northern California, and I'd like to go see that, too. I mean, I'm. I'm not. I'm not into the wine drinking, per se, but I would love to see the process of how it's done.
B
Yeah.
A
Yeah, surely I'm find a Diet Coke out there somewhere.
B
I imagine they make those out there, too, or have them for sale or a Melayella somewhere. What else were we talking about? We were talking about going to. Oh, we're like. I don't know if you notice England sometime or whatever.
A
That's a pretty good lineup. Just, we've already run. We've run out about three years worth.
B
Of trips right now, so we don't.
A
But I like. I'd love to see Alaska. I mean, if we just put it on the. On the list. I'd love to see England.
B
All that Cape Cod, you know, area. That would be a pretty trip. But anyway. Yep. So we got a lot to think about. We'll see.
A
Yeah. Got to work. You know, get all that done and then see what we can do. Well, Betty, thank you for coming by. If you'll get me those other recipes, because I'm just being lambasted online and in email to. To try to get that.
B
Not mine.
A
Well, I know I'm not. I'm not saying that. Your fault, Betty. Nothing is your fault, my love.
B
Well, thank you. Now, after 37 years of marriage, he's finally figured that. Things just go better when it's not my fault. Let's just say that.
A
Yeah, well, I'm used to anything like you. Knock it over. It's my fault. You know.
B
We were just talking about your mom and stepdad. They had come to our house for Christmas Eve one year and she was the same way. Do you remember? She knocked over a table. Ed was nowhere around that table. We opened that door to see what the big calamity sound was, and she's standing by the table going, ed, you knocked this over, buddy. Oh, babe.
A
I call that the sore tail cats. I hope we can avoid that if possible. I'd prefer that.
B
Maybe. Hopefully.
A
Oh, Lord. Betty, thanks for joining us as always. And we'll get those recipes up.
B
You are welcome.
A
You heard it. You heard it from lovely Betty Lou, right? There she is, folks. Wave bye to everybody.
B
Bye, folks. See you next time.
A
All right, so we'll play with this. We'll see how this clip goes. It may end up the garbage can, but who knows? We'll be right back in just a minute. Thanks for being with us.

This episode of "Bubba on the Lake" shines with nostalgia, humor, and real-life reflections as Bubba welcomes his longtime friend and former radio collaborator, Jeff "JT" Tyson, for a walk down memory lane. Later, Bubba’s wife, Betty Lou Bussey, joins for laid-back banter, updates on lake life, spring fever, and podcast tech shenanigans. The conversations blend fun radio history, wild anecdotes, family catch-ups, and the joys (and quirks) of lakeside living, all with the easygoing warmth Bubba is known for.
