Bubba
Hey, it's Bubba. Hey, Bubba. Bubba on the lake. Bubba, Bubba. Bubba on the Lake. Yeah, he's got it going on. Gotta talking people talking places from Bubba's perspective. This is Bubba.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, hello again everybody. I am your semi retired, mostly washed up host, formerly of the Rick and Bubba show and now of Bubba on the Lake. Bill Bubba Bussy. Thank you all so much for listening to the podcast and participating. Many of you have got shirts and merchandise and we have some new items out there you need to check out. We have another wave of them that we're trying to get out to you for the summer that you'll enjoy and thank you very much for that. Welcome in to the Melale Studio and of course our website is bubonthelake.com and we have these message line that we are really enjoying the comments from. 308 Big Lake. That's 308 Big Lake 308-244-5253 or as I like to say, 308 Big Lake. We appreciate you being along for the ride. We appreciate you subscribing, turning on notifications so you don't miss anything from the show and also following us on social media all over the place. All right, we have a very, very busy show. It is a special edition. We are celebrating Betty's birthday and Mother's Day for all of your mothers, all of you mothers out there everywhere or for those of you who have to be a mother to somebody or take care of something or pets or whatever you have to keep up with if you're a, if you're a mom to somebody or something. We salute you this weekend and we appreciate you being there. And I say that because I had a great mom and we, we lost her to glory back. Gosh, I guess it was 2013 now. But I also had an aunt that was like a second mom to me and we lost her the same year. So I understand sometimes you're, you're officially a mom and sometimes you kind of fill that role as a mom. And we appreciate all of those people. All right, a couple of announcements before we get busy. And we got a busy show. Tech Stuart is going to be with us. Our tech guy, Stuart Brockwell from Surge Technologies is going to bring us another tech segment. A lot of big tech things in the news you need to know about, need to be prepared for. And a Couple of other things. We have the regions Pro am coming up in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend and this week. And that's been an event that we've been at, Gosh, I don't know, 30 years maybe. We are not going to be at this event. It breaks my heart to say that we're not playing, wasn't invited, not playing and also not going to be there because of my bum ankle right now. I have a strained Achilles, inflamed Achilles. We have been treating that. It's just one of those things it takes forever to get over and it is better, but it is still hurting. And you know, for instance, if we were in the parking lot and we had to walk to the media area, I would be hobbling and in extreme pain. And I don't want to go out there and do that. I want to be able to interact with everybody and have fun and be feeling good. So we're not going to be there this year. Right now that plan could change. But as of the recording this, we will not be there this year. We hate. We're going to miss it. We hope we will be back next year, not only there talking and interviewing people, but hopefully playing if Gene Hallman invites us. So we will look forward to that. As I mentioned, Stuart Brockwell will be along with the tech segment. We have a long conversation with the lovely Betty Lou about her birthday and Mother's Day with both kids at the same time. So you don't want to miss that. It was rather rapid fire there at one point. So. Oh, oh, before we go, before we go, big announcement, big announcement. And this, this goes back to something we were talking about earlier. The headline today is Trump administration reveals bombshell trade deal with China weeks after tariffs ripped apart the world economy. You may remember on this show we talked about this, a lot of concern about tariffs. And I said, just be cool. Just be cool, everybody. Play it cool. This will work itself out. Tariffs, as I have reminded you, are much like carrying a handgun. You pray to God you never have to use it, but the fact that you have it gives you options. Some of them bad, you don't like them. But most of the time just having that adds protection to the situation. Much like in the tariff we threatened. We put them in place. Everybody has come to the table. Hopefully this deal will go through and it will create a minimal amount of disruption. And you will see, once this deal is signed, the economy is going to go crazy. The stock market will go crazy worldwide. It will go up. And everybody that was panicking and ready to jump off a bridge. As I told you, just ride this ride out. It will work itself out. So big news. This is breaking news. Trump administration says they have a trade deal with China. This is Mother's Day Sunday that we're recording this. And on Monday they said they will, they will have a press conference. So even if there's a bump in that and they push it back a day or two, this will eventually be worked out. So everybody, I told you that just to be calm and it's all going to be cool. So now with that said, it is time to go to the break. We'll be right back in just a minute. You're listening to Bubba on the Lake.
It's Bubba on the Lake. Bubba on the Lake.

Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, we are here to celebrate a very special weekend. It is Betty's birthday and Mother's Day all at the same time. Betty, congratulations.
Betty Lou
Thank you. Thank you very much. Yep. Always a challenge when you got a birthday and Mother's Day or a birthday and a celebration of something else like Christmas, Mother's Day, whatever, you know.
Bill Bubba Bussy
But do you feel like you get shortchanged having at the same time?
Betty Lou
Oh, at times, maybe most time. Y' all do pretty good though.
Bill Bubba Bussy
We also have joining us, Hunter Buss. Hunter, how are you, sir?
Hunter Bussy
Good. How are you?
Bill Bubba Bussy
Good, good. Caitlin is here.
Caitlin Bussy
Hello.
Bill Bubba Bussy
We have our, our very spirited child, Caitlin. And thank you all both for being here. Anything you want to say to Mom, Hunter?
Hunter Bussy
Happy Mother's Day and happy birthday.
Betty Lou
Well, thank you very much. I've had a good weekend. I want to go ahead and apologize to the tables that were sitting around us Friday night because apparently we got really loud.
Caitlin Bussy
There were toddlers that were better behaved sitting around us.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I apologize to two tables. I know Of. For the volume.
Betty Lou
Had I realized it was that loud? I don't know. I'm loud anyway, so I really don't even. I don't notice when people are. Well, you.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You girls got the. To carrying on and trying to shout over each other, and it got to be like a pile.
Caitlin Bussy
I was not included in that. I was late to the party.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah, but you saw what was going on.
Caitlin Bussy
Yes.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah.
Caitlin Bussy
Yes.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Little crazy in there. So we did celebrate your birthday on Friday night, and you didn't really care for the birthday cake I got you.
Betty Lou
Oh, I was. It was good. That was very sweet. But when I went, I had to go pick it up because you had a phone call you needed to make, which was fine, but. What are you doing?
Bill Bubba Bussy
I'm suggesting something you don't need to worry about. Keep talking.
Caitlin Bussy
The ADHD in this family is off the charts.
Betty Lou
All right? So anyway, I go in.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You know, I'm the boredom. I have to adjust things as we go.
Betty Lou
I go into the place to pick up the cake, and I said, bill Bussey, you know, there's cake I need to pick up. They go get the cake and lift the little thing up to make sure it looks right. And it's basically this weird color, green and white, you know, and it just says, happy Birthday, Betty. I said, oh, oh, okay. And so I went and paid for it, then got in the car. And as soon as I got in the car, I didn't realize you were still on the phone. And I said, bill, what color did you ask for?
Bill Bubba Bussy
I'm on the phone with someone, a very influential broadcaster that, you know, has influence over, I don't know, 8, 10, 14 stations. And Betty jumps in the Jeep and is wearing me out.
Betty Lou
He's not wearing you out.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And I have to say, hey, Betty, Betty, I'm on the phone here.
Betty Lou
I said, what color did you tell them? Did you order? And he said, teal. Your favorite color. And I'm like, I haven't said anything about teal since we got married in 1989. That was my bridesmaids dress colors.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And I've always remembered that.
Caitlin Bussy
I know.
Betty Lou
That is sweet. It wasn't it. I'm not saying it wasn't.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I got scolded.
Betty Lou
That was. I thought it was hilarious that he thought that was my favorite color, which I don't. Y' all were asking me again your.
Caitlin Bussy
Favorite color, and you go, I don't know.
Betty Lou
I just like color. I mean, period.
Bill Bubba Bussy
In the car a few minutes ago, to clarify this for next time, I said, so what is your favorite color. Color. And you said, I don't know.
Betty Lou
I like pinks. And I like. I like a lot of color. Different colors.
Bill Bubba Bussy
By the way, one of your. Your birthday gift, which is a two parter, did not get here, and I need to track it down somewhere. I don't know where it went.
Betty Lou
Where's the other part? You said it's a two parter.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Neither one of them got here.
Betty Lou
Oh, okay. Well, I didn't. I don't know. I was just wondering. But I liked my cake, even if it was teal.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So next time, just for now.
Betty Lou
Poor Jeannie had it all up in her invisible hands.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, I know it looked like all the ladies had kissed the Grinch after they got done eating.
Betty Lou
That was. That was funny.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So next time when I go to get a cake, what color should I get?
Caitlin Bussy
Just let me order it. I'll do it. I'll handle it.
Bill Bubba Bussy
No, you're busy.
Betty Lou
Rosebud.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You know, but what color? That's not a color.
Betty Lou
Light pink.
Caitlin Bussy
Pink.
Betty Lou
Pink.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Pink. Pink will be fine because, you know, rose. Rosebud is not a color.
Betty Lou
Rosebuds is the decoration that you can put on there.
Bill Bubba Bussy
But I ask you, what color? Yeah, you said rosebuds.
Betty Lou
Baby pink.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Baby color. Okay.
Hunter Bussy
I would like to point out when we did ask mom the question of, like, hey, what is your favorite color? Now she goes, I don't know. Color. Like, oh, yeah, okay.
Bill Bubba Bussy
That was the answer, by the way. Color.
Betty Lou
That's, like, another story that I needed to tell sometime. When I used to work as a nurse, we used to have to have these meetings, and we'd sit around in a circle, and we had to tell what we liked most about our job. And there was this guy or whatever, and every time he'd go, I work with shots. Every time it says that. Well, that's not really. What about your job? But go ahead. All right.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What did he work with?
Caitlin Bussy
I'm losing the correlation here.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What did he work with?
Betty Lou
It just made me think of him when I said, I don't know color. Oh, man.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What did he work with?
Caitlin Bussy
All right, let's just move on.
Bill Bubba Bussy
The story is charts.
Betty Lou
Yes.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And you said shots.
Betty Lou
Pronounced it shots.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Okay.
Caitlin Bussy
Okay. So Dad's back on track.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I promise we're not drunk.
Caitlin Bussy
Dad asked us to come on the podcast and talk about some of Mom's, you know, our favorite Betty stories, favorite things she's done. And this is a prime example. There isn't. There are, like, specific examples, but this is an everyday thing. Random as trying to follow along A story is quite literal. I needed Adderall just to have a 10 minute conversation.
Betty Lou
Yeah, that's why your dad calls me Edith Munkers from all of the people.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah. Betty will be trying to convey some information. And you do an imitation of this. Very well. But she'll say, you know, it's so and so. And you know, they had the daughter that used to play tennis, and you may remember she was left handed and remember that time her shoe came off in the match. I'm like, I don't even know who. What was the point of this?
Betty Lou
She used to order chicken noodle soup.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Every time, all that. But I know one of your favorite stories, Caitlin, is what we call the lost cat.
Caitlin Bussy
Yes.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And you get this by request at work, huh?
Caitlin Bussy
No, not at work, but my friends from college love this story. I try not to talk about mom too much at work, but I'm working crazy. I know, but I don't actually know the full story. I just kind of know, like, what happened, Mom.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, you want, you want mom to tell it because.
Caitlin Bussy
No, because we'll be here till 8:30pm don't have time.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Let's see.
Caitlin Bussy
But I just know, you know, common sense is something that I think are. I can't speak for myself, of course, but the rest of our family struggles with sometimes. And I think everybody in the English speaking world understands that when you see a lost, blank, like lost child, lost pet poster, they're talking about, they themselves are in search of this lost subject matter. Mom sees a lost cat poster and goes, huh, I have a lost cat. So I'm gonna call the number because that applies to me. And so she calls the number and it's like, hey, this is B, you know, Einstein, our great tabby has been missing for weeks. And you know, he has that weird paw thing he does. And anyway, we've just got so much cat food left over and you know, long paws on the other end of the phone. Cone of silence. And he goes, ma' am, I'm the one with the lost cat. And she just goes, well, that makes two of us. And heads up the bench. And, you know, he was cussing you dry on the other end or just like so confused.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What I love too. She had already told him who she was and where she lived.
Betty Lou
She was her.
Caitlin Bussy
Yeah, gone on and on and on like she always does, like irrelevant details. Let's get to the point.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So at what point in the conversation did you realize he had lost the cat? What did he say to you on.
Betty Lou
The phone when I paused cone of silence came, and I'm thinking to myself, crap, he's lost the cat.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Then what did he say?
Betty Lou
He goes, I'm the one that's lost the cat. You know, very frustrated.
Hunter Bussy
And you say, as he should be.
Betty Lou
And I said, well, that makes two of us. Bye.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And then hung the phone.
Caitlin Bussy
Yes.
Betty Lou
I thought, well, bless his heart.
Caitlin Bussy
It was like a prank call.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah, I know it.
Betty Lou
I was dying.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You asked if he had Prince Albert in the can while you had it.
Betty Lou
So anyway, the backstory to that is, though, we had these two sister cats that got pregnant at the same time, and we already had an old mama cat. So the. The back story to this is that both cats got pregnant at the same time. Six cats a piece. So that made us have 15 cats. Well, we moved down the hill in the process of all this.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Okay, give me those numbers again. Give me those numbers one more time.
Betty Lou
Six kittens apiece. The mamas made 14, right? 6, 6, 12, 13, 14 with the mama. And then mama cat was 15. So I can do math, folks. So.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Especially the way you threw it in there, though. I was going, wait a minute. 6 and 6, 15.
Betty Lou
So it was on my mind, because we had moved down the hill in the process of these kittens and whatever coming, and they kept trying to go back up the hill to our old house. And I thought. And we kept missing. One in particular was my favorite. I called him Sylvester because he was black and white like Sylvester on the cartoon, once again. So, anyway, I know.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Just let her go. Just let her go.
Betty Lou
Anyway, that was why cats were just on my mind all the time, you know, because they kept wandering. So that's why. Go ahead, Hunter. What's your favorite story?
Hunter Bussy
So you're just gonna keep going?
Betty Lou
No, I'm done now.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, we were enjoying that bet.
Betty Lou
That was my ramble. Ruby likes it.
Hunter Bussy
I think my favorite is just anytime we'll say something and you'll think we said something totally opposite of what we're actually saying. Like, for instance, our neighbors here at the lake. I won't give their name out and dox them, but they have a gong on their back porch. And we're walking in here. And Caitlin goes, why do the neighbors have a gong on their back porch? And mom goes, I've never seen a dog on their back porch. And I said, that's not what she said, Mom.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, we've long thought Betty might have hearing problems, okay?
Betty Lou
And I. It was. They were dogging me about it. So I finally went and had it checked.
Caitlin Bussy
She went to an Audiologist who is dating her best friend.
Betty Lou
Okay. Bobby is a reputable.
Caitlin Bussy
At the time, like, in a newish relationship with someone, and their friend comes to me and is like, can I hear yes or no? I'm gonna be like, flying colors. Yes, you can hear.
Betty Lou
Like, I'm getting a good report.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Like, you know what I mean? Well, no, I think. I think Bobby is very good.
Caitlin Bussy
No, he's definitely good. We're just messing Bobby out.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I started joking with him. Like, where were you trained at? Is this a Virgin Islands deal or what?
Betty Lou
What it is, y' all will get. And you'll put your head in the refrigerator like you're looking for something and start talking to me. And I'm like, I can't hear. I can't hear. You know, you're not looking at me or whatever.
Caitlin Bussy
No, my favorite is when, like, I'm having a private conversation with dad. And not private because, like, we're just speaking to each other, but it's a direct conversation with me. And dad and mom will just be in another room going, what?
Hunter Bussy
What?
Betty Lou
What?
Bill Bubba Bussy
What?
Betty Lou
Did you say? What?
Caitlin Bussy
It doesn't concern you. Sit down. And if you would listen instead of yelling for, like, five minutes, you might know what we're talking about.
Hunter Bussy
The best is when you'll be, you know, talking to her a mid sentence. She'll just walk into another room or out the door entirely, and I'll be like. I'll be like, well, I was mid sentence. What you got going on?
Betty Lou
Well, to my defense, you ramble, too. And sometimes I'm just like, I don't follow it.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You just have to walk out when that happens. You just kind of go, well, I know it wasn't that interesting. I know it wasn't.
Betty Lou
But, Bill, you do that bad, and you don't realize.
Caitlin Bussy
No. Dad has a great gift of storytelling. I love the way he tells stories.
Betty Lou
I'm not talking about that. He'll just walk out, though, when you're trying to say something to him, or.
Caitlin Bussy
He just won't answer you. I might as well block my number on his phone.
Bill Bubba Bussy
He won't answer.
Betty Lou
Oh, I was almost broken.
Caitlin Bussy
Hear from you. Kay. Dad, check the text. There's a lot of blue on my end, a little bit of white.
Betty Lou
I took the golf cart the other day, and it almost ran out of charge about halfway back. Oh, there was. I told you, two turtles passed me coming. I mean, it was going so slow that I almost got my foot out and just started trying to get it to go like a scooter. And then I called you eight times. No, nothing. Con of silence. No answer.
Caitlin Bussy
No, but see, if it was dad trying to reach one of us. I'm cutting these phones off. Pissed off. Pissed for the rest of the day.
Betty Lou
Oh, the rest of his life.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Oh, everybody knows I hold a grudge.
Caitlin Bussy
I need to get that. That's Mom. That's petty Betty. We've already established that, okay? That's why she's. She used to get on me in high school for, like, not telling her stuff. I'm like, I can't. Because, you know, in high school, things change all the time. People make up, people break up, whatever. Mom would hold a grudge. I mean, forever. But back on the topic of mom stories, one of my other favorite things she does. And I don't know, I think we do need to look into this. I think it might be a disease. But she. If you speak to her, if you have an accent and you speak to her and she will repeat it back, or if she looks at you and thinks you should have an accent, she'll talk to you. And what she thinks your native tongue should be.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What is that?
Caitlin Bussy
Not to get our family canceled, but. And I wish Karen was here, because I'm sure she could chime in on this, but I wasn't at this specific instance. But this lady. I don't even know the correct term. Let's just say she was Asian. Whatever. I think that covers a large blanket. She had ice on her elbow at the tennis courts. And mom, you know, mom likes to. Mom is friendly. I'm not saying she's not, but she's.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And caring. She's caring about it.
Caitlin Bussy
She is, but she's a little overkill. Like, you don't need to talk to every stranger we see. It's okay.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Like, let them be or tell them where you're going.
Caitlin Bussy
Yeah, yeah.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Like, you didn't see the movie Taken at all. You mean you just didn't. You didn't learn anything from that cab ride I'm taking.
Caitlin Bussy
She goes up to this Asian lady and goes, you hurt your elbow? And it's. The lady is literally looking at her.
Betty Lou
Like, no, she was like, no, she was not. She was so. She was very touched that I. Yeah. Goodness. Now you know why she's the spirited one. But she goes, yeah, she served in the Navy, apparently, or whatever. And Karen's the one looking at me like, what did you. I said, I just asked about her elbow. She goes, yeah, but not.
Caitlin Bussy
No. She, like, blacks out. You looked at elbow. I thought she was about to ask her super salad next.
Bill Bubba Bussy
But I did you know what that may be. I don't know if that's a medical condition because I have a touch of that, too. If you hit me with an accent, I'll go back with you with the same accent. And I don't mean to.
Betty Lou
I did the same thing on the fifth grade trip in Washington. This English accent lady, this British lady.
Caitlin Bussy
Was giving us our itinerary for the day.
Betty Lou
Thank you very much. Cheerio or whatever.
Caitlin Bussy
I just looked at her. I was like, mom, I didn't mean to.
Betty Lou
I was just. I don't know. It just comes on me or something. I don't know.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Just comes right on you.
Doesn't.
Betty Lou
Does.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, I tell you what has come on us. It's time for another commercial break. We'll be right back in just a minute.
You're listening to Bubba, Bubba on the Lake. You know one thing I love about Buffalo Wild Wings? You can get wings with any of their 26 sauces and dry rubs for takeout and delivery. That's like bringing an entire B dubs home with you, which you can't do. I tried. I've knocked down so many walls only to then be told to halt construction because I'm not zoned to be a sports bar. Kind of just looks like a big pergola or something. Because of the lack of walls, at least these 26 sauces and dry rubs are available to go. Buffalo Wild Wings. Let's go, sports bar.

Well, we're back here in the Mello Yellow studio with my wife, the lovely Betty Lou. And we're celebrating her birthday and Mother's Day. We have the kids here, Hunter and Caitlin and babe. Happy birthday to you.
Betty Lou
Thank you. Thank you very much. It's been a good weekend. Been a little rainy, but good weekend.
Bill Bubba Bussy
We have. We've had a lot of fun considering the weather has not been.
Betty Lou
Oh, yeah. Yep.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You got your puppies in here. You got your cat. You're ready.
Betty Lou
Ellie pedicures me and Caitlyn yesterday.
Bill Bubba Bussy
How was that?
Betty Lou
It was.
Caitlin Bussy
Don't even. We're not bringing that up.
Betty Lou
It was fun.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I saw a video of you getting.
Betty Lou
Your toes done packed in there. All this say that there are a lot of people, which I know we weren't shocked. I told Caitlyn it's going to be standing room only, you know, with it being. Mother.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Does your mother sometimes stare inappropriately?
Caitlin Bussy
I don't mean to. I don't know. Mom also, like we said, talks to every stranger in the vicinity. So you can't get in and out without anyone. Hi, I'm Betty Bussy. How are you? How are you doing today? And there's a.
Bill Bubba Bussy
It's more fun when she takes you than me.
Caitlin Bussy
There was a lady beside us whose foot was.
Betty Lou
Okay, stop.
Bill Bubba Bussy
No, I wouldn't go into all that. Just say there was something. Something was not right that had caught your mom's attention.
Caitlin Bussy
Well, mom wouldn't let it go. I mean she's sitting two chairs down from us staring at it the whole time. And I was like, hey, hey, over here, over here. Mom, let's focus on our own feet. Quit staring. Focus on your.
Hunter Bussy
Something was definitely afoot.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Caitlyn.
Betty Lou
Oh, Lord.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Caitlyn took a picture of Betty holding her phone staring at something that was going on. And it is funny.
Caitlin Bussy
Mom has a staring problem. And we've established that multiple times because on.
Bill Bubba Bussy
But she was holding her phone like she was looking. But she was locked in down the hall.
Caitlin Bussy
She was trying to do a few fake. But you know, mom is pretty straight straightforward. But you do have a steering problem. That's why you got yelled at on the subway in New York.
Betty Lou
I wasn't staring.
Caitlin Bussy
You were.
Betty Lou
My package brushed some guy's book or something one time.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I don't know if I'd phrase it that way. There's probably a better way to say.
Betty Lou
That we had been.
Caitlin Bussy
She. She stares and then finally. And you know, you never know what you're going to get on the subway in New York. And this guy was clearly had some issues like something going on. He's screaming at mom.
Bill Bubba Bussy
The majority of the city that all.
Caitlin Bussy
Americans are so entitled and the. The Italians get no love around here. And mom is sitting around and she goes, well, if you were a gentleman, you would be giving me your seat.
Bill Bubba Bussy
That was the comeback.
Caitlin Bussy
That was the comeback. And he was just livid. He got off on the next.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I don't think it was this time.
Hunter Bussy
No, it was definitely late where he was to going.
Betty Lou
You should stand up because me and a bunch of other women a lot older than me need a seat.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Set them straight, didn't you, babe?
Betty Lou
I tried. Yeah.
Bill Bubba Bussy
How about these two kids? That's something. This is Your Mother's Day and birthday gift.
Betty Lou
Uh huh. It sure is.
Caitlin Bussy
You're welcome.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You feel like they're throwing tomatoes at you?
Betty Lou
Happy birthday note.
Caitlin Bussy
You know, we think the world of you. I do think actually wrote mom such a sweet card. She cried.
Betty Lou
Oh, it was sweet. Sweet. She needs to write greeting cards now. That'll be your next.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Oh, that was Chat. Gtp. She didn't.
Caitlin Bussy
What's gp?
Betty Lou
That was the shot to lose weight. No, that's g. Never mind.
Caitlin Bussy
It's GPT. Chat. GPT. One and only fans. Y' all get that one. That always goes. Well, I'm just gonna make a fan zone lady.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, that's part of the joke, Caitlyn.
Betty Lou
What's it called?
Caitlin Bussy
An only fans.
Betty Lou
Only fans. Okay. Yeah, I don't. I've never seen the only fans.
Bill Bubba Bussy
That's probably.
Caitlin Bussy
That's best. Yeah. You don't need one. You don't people.
Betty Lou
I don't.
Caitlin Bussy
You don't need to look.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah, don't.
Caitlin Bussy
Don't Google it.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Stay clear of that.
Caitlin Bussy
Yeah.
Betty Lou
Oh, well, Hunter, what's another story you've got over there?
Hunter Bussy
Well, which. This one kind of resonates with all. Because she does it to all of us where we'll be on the phone with her and we'll be, you know, something bad's going on or we're just telling a story and she'll be humming in the background like whenever. For example, this was what. When this happened two years ago now. The whole kidney stone thing happened and I'm like trying to.
Caitlin Bussy
You wanted me to describe that up. People were calling me asking me if Hunter was dead because of his Instagram.
Hunter Bussy
Stories so you didn't have to experience it. It was great. So you were wanting me to describe it what, you know, type of pain it was so you could describe it to our neighbor at the time who's a doctor. And. And while I'm describing it in this 10, you know, 12 out of 10. 10 out of 10. Pain, you're.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You do like to hum.
Hunter Bussy
And I'm like, mom, what are you doing? And she's like, I'm. I'm listening. I said, you're humming and I can't.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I can't breathe.
Betty Lou
What's funny.
Bill Bubba Bussy
But I think it makes you. I've always thought I'll hear you humming around the house and I think you. That you. Well, I said, well, that's good. She's happy.
Betty Lou
I must be really happy all the time then. Cuz I do hum even when I'm watching a TV program that is Kind.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Of strange when I walk in and there's a TV show and you're humming.
Hunter Bussy
Yeah.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And I. I just sitting there.
Caitlin Bussy
No, I'll be telling her a story, and she's just like.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah, yeah.
Caitlin Bussy
Like, getting into it too. Getting her head shaking with it. I'm like, do you want me to sit. Stop. So you can sing? Or like, what. What's going on?
Hunter Bussy
Like she's having a seance or something while we walk in the room. What are you doing?
Betty Lou
I sent you a picture one time. And what is it called? One of the p. It's live.
Caitlin Bussy
It's like a live photo. Yeah. And you can hear you humming in the back. Yeah.
Betty Lou
Oh, my gosh.
Caitlin Bussy
Oh, well, you're a hoot, though.
Betty Lou
Yeah.
Caitlin Bussy
We're very lucky. We have a great mom. And you're a mom of three, let's not forget.
Betty Lou
Well, that's dad is.
Caitlin Bussy
Your dad's the firstborn.
Betty Lou
That's right.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Now you said you were gonna send me back for remedial training.
Betty Lou
Yeah, that's right. Oh, Lordy. Well.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, I know. Bless your heart. You have it tough around here.
Caitlin Bussy
Yeah.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What was that schedule today? You heard?
Caitlin Bussy
Well, Friday. I got in Friday night, and I was like, what are we doing tomorrow? Like, I know some of your friends had mentioned pickleball, but it was also raining, and I was like, you know, I could. I would love a slow morning. And mom stretches her arms out and goes, me too. I haven't had one in a long time. I'm like, trying my best not to flip you off.
Betty Lou
Try to get up and go exercise or do pickleball or. I have somewhere to be. Went to my mom because it's Mother's Day, you know, and what'd you say at lunch?
Caitlin Bussy
You're like, oh, God, the gardening club. I can't make it.
Betty Lou
Well, now I'm gonna miss that. I'm gonna miss that Tuesday because we're hopefully going to a baseball game, but it looks like it's gonna rain it out.
Hunter Bussy
So anyway, that has echoes of the. When we got, you know, stranded during the snowpocalypse. And we're like, me and you were like, man, we're just glad to be home. You know, we're snif. We got flu like, symptoms. Wind burn from having to ride a four wheeler back from the end of our street to get home because the whole road was still iced over. And we're like, we're just glad to be home. Mom goes, me too. It's been rough out there. And I'm like, You've been home with the fire, the dogs. I don't want to hear it. I want to hear it. I got stuck with a math teacher.
Caitlin Bussy
You were with the Gilberts?
Hunter Bussy
Yeah, like, after the fact.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Because you left.
Caitlin Bussy
I did have great opportunity, and I took it.
Bill Bubba Bussy
We had to review our policy. No Bussy left behind.
Betty Lou
Okay.
Caitlin Bussy
Hey, Bussy, get your A out of the gym. Let's go. Hunter was sitting there with the rest of everybody. I was like, rod's here. I'm leaving.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Spiritual child strikes again.
Hunter Bussy
That was fun, though. Me and Roy. Roy, you know, woke us up and he's like, all right, let's go save some people in that gator. And we ended up spinning out not even like a mile away from his as he goes. All right, let's go home. Wrap it up.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah. Too dangerous.
Betty Lou
Yeah, that was. That was funny.
Caitlin Bussy
What's your favorite part about being a mom?
Betty Lou
Well, I do miss that when y' all were in school and carpooling and all that. Believe it or not. You know, you always say you didn't.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Like all those years with.
Betty Lou
Well, I did all the books, everything to.
Caitlin Bussy
Do you miss carpool?
Betty Lou
I don't miss. No. I loved. I loved the day. You know what I mean? Like, I could hear about what was going on at school in the car, the car rides, you know, things like that. I used to like going. You know, when we'd all go the beach and it was a long road trip, so we'd usually end up talking.
Caitlin Bussy
When you used to drive us to our upward basketball games and she would play the song okay.
Betty Lou
Okay.
Caitlin Bussy
By the Black Eyed peas.
Betty Lou
We were 7 and 8, but anyway.
Caitlin Bussy
7 and 8 years old. And then I started singing my humps on the playground in first grade and was accosted by the prior with school teacher.
Betty Lou
It was really Karen that led you astray on that. That is my.
Hunter Bussy
Frowned upon. At the Presbyterian school.
Bill Bubba Bussy
No. So not really on the playlist there for junior high.
Betty Lou
No, it was a. I have a. You don't usually have a playground in junior high.
Caitlin Bussy
Anyway, mom goes. Well, you didn't know what it meant.
Betty Lou
Oh, Lordy. I didn't either at first. Let's. I mean to my so true.
Caitlin Bussy
Mom learned more and helped fast than we did, I think.
Betty Lou
Well, from your dad. That's another. That'll be a podcast coming up is.
Caitlin Bussy
We just get it over with because I'm kind of busy this summer.
Betty Lou
Caitlin, you are not. You're about as busy as I am.
Caitlin Bussy
I am busy.
Betty Lou
Oh, me.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So is your mom. I bet she's got a killer schedule tomorrow.
Caitlin Bussy
Pickleball.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What do you think schedule tomorrow looks like?
Caitlin Bussy
She said we're supposed to be playing.
Betty Lou
Pickleball, but I think it's going to get rained out.
Caitlin Bussy
So I wanted to take a bath and I was like, mom, there's crap everywhere in the bathtub. Like, what is. She goes, Monday is my day to clean the bathtub. And I was like, good, I'm glad. We blocked off a whole day for a Monday test.
Betty Lou
But now I clean the house on Mondays a lot of times because I don't have pickleballs.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So pickleball will be okay. Her. And then what else you got busy tomorrow?
Caitlin Bussy
I will say, like, being a mom. Being a mom is a full time job. I get it. But now, you know, we've been out of the house for seven years.
Betty Lou
Okay.
Caitlin Bussy
Me, not Hunter. I get it that you still have to handle that.
Hunter Bussy
By myself in Birmingham.
Bill Bubba Bussy
What do you mean?
Betty Lou
Oh, Lordy. Oh, my God.
Caitlin Bussy
Anyway, we won't even get started.
Betty Lou
We go ahead.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, your, your mom, I think, you know, she ages so well, and I think that's part of the reason she's not overworked.
Caitlin Bussy
Yeah, she's. No frown lines.
Betty Lou
No frown lines.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Now, some of us look like we've been on three tours of Vietnam. You know what I mean? So it's.
Caitlin Bussy
I don't think you look like that. Like, that bad.
Betty Lou
You have not been getting up early.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And it's been tough. No, we haven't. It's not post hole digging, but getting up the time I did for 31. Well, if you've ever dug a post.
Betty Lou
Hole, I've used it.
Bill Bubba Bussy
That's probably my worst job, was working post holes.
Betty Lou
You don't like working in the yard. So anything at any of the houses we've ever lived in, I have done it.
Caitlin Bussy
I vividly remember Moses being around in the Pelham house. Remember he taught me how to ride my razor scooter.
Betty Lou
Yeah, he was like doing yard work. Well, I mean, he cut the grass or whatever. I'm like, if I brought flowers in and wanted them planted, I planted them. You know what I mean? And sometimes the dirt was tough. So you get some post hole diggers out.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You remember, you remember growing up, I had to do a lot of work in the yard. My dad insisted on that. It almost cost us dating. And I had to cut grass for people in the neighborhood. And then I worked at a golf course. And I had had just about enough of the great outdoors far as working in the yard. Okay, Now, I enjoyed getting out in the outdoors. I just didn't want to be sweating with something in my hand that I'm working, you know, so as when we. The very first time that we could pay our bills and we had just a little bit of money left over. And everybody knows that, how that works. You know, you work paycheck to paycheck, and then if you ever just get ahead just a little bit. I hired somebody to cut the yard. I said, because this is what would happen. My allergies are so bad. I would cut grass on Saturday and I would stay stopped up till probably Wednesday. I'd have like one or two days that I could breathe again. And somebody snorting now who it is. And. And then you. And then it's time to cut grass again. So I remember, I mean, I think it was a hundred bucks. I don't remember what it was, but we hired the yard dogs.
Betty Lou
Yeah, I remember that. I remember one of the last times.
Bill Bubba Bussy
They come out with red and white shirts and there was like 50 of them and they're done in 10 minutes. Whole yards manicured.
Betty Lou
Your dad would get out there on a riding lawnmower, which are. I mean, it was like a 1200 square foot house. It wasn't a big yard. He'd get out there on a riding lawnmower. You would have.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I got the biggest one I could get. The longest shorts, the widest blade on it.
Betty Lou
The long shorts, knee socks. You'd tie a bandana around your head so you inhale the grass. I guess you would scare the school children on the school bus. When they came by, they would look outside and start screaming or whatever. I said, well, Bill, oh, man, you look like you gonna hold somebody up.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, look, I have not enjoyed the cutting grass experience. Now, bush hogging, when you're in a tractor with an enclosed cab, that's a whole nother thing. Now that is fun.
Caitlin Bussy
I've gotten facetimes from you inside of your little air conditioner.
Hunter Bussy
We all have.
Betty Lou
That's a normal thing.
Caitlin Bussy
Pretty funny.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah, that, that's, that's. Betty would get on me. She'd say, so let me, let me be sure. I got this. You don't want to cut the grass, but you're gonna go bush hog all day? I said, yeah, pretty much. That's it. It's more fun in the tractor.
Hunter Bussy
Yeah. It's enclosed and you got ac.
Bill Bubba Bussy
If I could cut this yard with a tractor, I'd cut it. But it won't work. No, not enough room.
Hunter Bussy
No.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I'd bump into something tiny.
Betty Lou
Oh, well, all right. That's all y' all got, huh?
Caitlin Bussy
What else do you want us to mention?
Betty Lou
Well, I don't know.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Let us just finish this by saying happy Birthday and Happy Mother's Day.
Betty Lou
Betty, thank you very much. I have enjoyed and I've been blessed to be a mom.
Caitlin Bussy
Yeah, you have good kids.
Betty Lou
That's because I'm your mother. I taught you well. And she.
Caitlin Bussy
This is actually funny. She would always be like, that dog acts just like you. Like our dog. Gracie acted just like Caitlin. Oh, well, Ruby is just like Caitlin. Well, we have the same mom. I don't know why you're pointing fingers at me like you raised all three of us. They act like you.
Betty Lou
Oh, my. Well.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, we are very blessed. And Betty, we're thankful for you, dear.
Betty Lou
Well, thank you. I'm thankful for all of y' all.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And we have several episodes coming up with it. We will breakdown about when we started dating. And we're actually gonna have the young lady on who introduced us.
Betty Lou
And we probably need to let her know that she's gonna be on the podcast.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, if you like I say, you know how it is now, you come to visit your own podcast, you come down that driveway, I'm getting an interview out of you.
Betty Lou
Yeah, the ups.
Bill Bubba Bussy
I only got certain hours. I could work on it. I gotta get on it. I gotta get it done.
Betty Lou
You know, the UPS guy, I think has caught wind. Cause he never. He puts that package down and sprints.
Hunter Bussy
Yeah, he is gone.
Betty Lou
I think he's like, oh, man.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Wait a minute. Before you go, come back, sir. Come back.
Hunter Bussy
Yeah, the amount of times he's run up that driveway, he can get a 10 day running that 40 somewhere for some team.
Betty Lou
Oh, my.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, but happy birthday and Happy Mother's Day. We love you.
Betty Lou
Well, thank you. I'll come up with some more stories, folks. Don't worry.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You know, we have no doubt. We'll be right back. You are listening to Bubba on the Lake.
Betty Lou
Where's Bubba?
Bill Bubba Bussy
I'll tell you where. He's on the lake.

All right, we're back with another edition of Tech Talk. Our guest technologist is Stuart Brockwell from Surge Technologies in Birmingham. We're glad to have him on the show again. Stuart, how are you doing?
Stuart Brockwell
I'm doing good, bubba. Good to talk to you again.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Now, Stuart is a technology fan like myself, and while I'm kind of amateurish in that he actually does this professionally for a living. And Stuart, I know you're staying busy. What all kind of projects are you working on nowadays?
Stuart Brockwell
A lot of new construction. We just finished up a new restaurant opening up downtown pretty soon. I don't know that I can share the name just yet, but if you like Tex Mex, be on the lookout for a new place downtown opening up. We did the full system there and I am really excited to see that place open up. We filled that place with technology, but it's all hidden. You know it's going to be cool, but doing that, got a few projects we're doing out in the country, doing some long range point to point Internet transmission stuff. I need to talk, I need to one day I need to tell you about air fiber and how that works. That's a pretty cool tech. It's really useful for throwing Internet across large properties and farms and stuff like that.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And there's always a problem with that. A lot of the, you know, more rural areas don't have really fast Internet. And even though there's been a push to put in fiber in a lot of them, some of those points are limited. So even if you have a fiber connection, you may have A lot of acreage or buildings or barns or whatever that you can't cover without one connection. And these wireless hops do a really, really good job, don't they?
Stuart Brockwell
They're, they're awesome and they're not expensive. I think depending on what, what you're, what you're looking for between, you know, $150 and, you know, $400 for these little, these little miniature. Think of them as like little salad plate size satellite dishes. They can throw a connection from one point to another, you know, between a mile and is pretty average for these. They make bigger ones that can go for 10, 15 miles. But typically for throwing them across properties like this, we just use the little ones and they revolutionize that because suddenly, you know, a farm that had, that used to have to have two or three different Internet connections across the property. Well, now they only have to have one. Now they can have cameras everywhere or they can have WI fi out in the field for their, you know, for their, the guys on the tractors to be able to get access to stuff. It's pretty cool.
Hunter Bussy
Yeah.
Bill Bubba Bussy
And a lot of the tractors, you know, are using Internet stuff now. So I guess that helps to bridge that connection. But I know a lot of people say that they would have a house and then they have maybe a workshop or you know, a guy's room out in the barn or a garage and you know, they want to put TV out there. Maybe they work on computers part time out there. And that always was a difficult connection. I mean, they had to dig the yard up or you know, if it was more than a hundred foot or so, you had like you said you had to get a totally different connection or go with a sail modem. And now you can just bridge right into that good fiber or whatever you've got at home and throw it out there and never miss a beat.
Stuart Brockwell
That's right. We've been using. This is, it's not new technology, but it's certainly been developed a lot lately. This is stuff made by a company called Ubiquiti. Their Air Max and Air Fiber products are what we use for this. And they just came out with their 60 GHz stuff. That's really pushing the limits of how fast this stuff can go. But if you're out in, I'll tell you, if you're out in the coastal regions, like in Gulf Shores or down there near the coast, you'll actually spot these things if you know what to look for. You can spot them all over the buildings down there because they're really good for throwing a connection without having to dig up the ground, especially when you've got, you know, a lot of sand and you can't run wire. But anyway, cool stuff.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So what, what would be the maximum distance for a ubiquity setup like that?
Stuart Brockwell
Well, like I say, they've got different product lines. The ones that we use are the more affordable ones. They're between 150 and $400 for these little units. And they can throw a signal between a mile and a mile and a half, three miles if you set them up just right. We use them a lot at lake houses to throw the Internet across the lakes to different structures. But they do make them larger ones that can handle 5, 10, 15 miles. It just depends on the application. But those are going to be a lot larger. They take a lot more, more power. We like the little ones because they, they basically cover all the need without a lot of cost. And the installation is a lot simpler for something solid plate sized as opposed to something that's, you know, the size of a car tire.
Bill Bubba Bussy
So, Stuart, let me, let me ask you. I know you're a space fan, like I am. What did you think about blue origin space flight with the all female crew? How did you, how did you like that?
Stuart Brockwell
Well.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Why are you laughing?
Stuart Brockwell
Well, look, I'm just. We're all honest on the, we're all honest on this show. And this, this was, this was a publicity stunt. I'm sorry, this was not legitimate space travel. This was, this was a, it was, it was basically just like a thrill ride for the ultra mega rich. I think that something, I don't know that the actual ticket cost was revealed, but it was something in the neighborhood of many hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions, I don't know which. It was Katy Perry and a bunch of other, a bunch of other women were up there for like 11 minutes. They were 107 kilometers up off of. It was suborbital. A suborbital. It wasn't even, wasn't even an orbital flight, but it was, it was a publicity stunt. They were trying to.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Stuart, they get their, they get their astronaut wings over this?
Stuart Brockwell
Yeah. Yeah.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, would you go? Would you go if you had the opportunity?
Stuart Brockwell
Maybe, but that's not the point. The point that what bugged me about it was not that they did it. Fine. You want to, you want to offer spaceflight and have people pay for it, that's fine. Nothing wrong with that. The problem was they heralded the thing like they were astronauts and they, I.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Mean, they are, they have, they have astronaut wings now, by the way. Official.
Stuart Brockwell
Yeah. Did you see the clip? Did you see the clip when, when Perry got back and she was like kissing the ground like that, that, that like as somebody who greatly respects the, the people who push the boundaries of exploration into space, coming back down and kissing in the ground like that, it just, it feels like you're just insulting the people who really put their lives at risk to do this. I don't know, Stuart.
Bill Bubba Bussy
You just didn't like the girls getting a ride. You wanted to be on that flight, did you?
Stuart Brockwell
Well, it was kind of a bad timing as well because of, you know that you saw the SpaceX rescue of the stranded astronauts. Yes, that, that just, they were up there because of Boeing's failure. I think it was what astronauts Wilmore and Williams, I think they were, they were stuck up there for nine months and then they just, you know, SpaceX just went up there and brought them back and then they did this and it just, it just feels like, like it's delegitimizing it. I don't know. I don't have a problem with commercial space flight. I'd probably buy a ticket if I had the money to do it. But it just, I'm posing as like you're some groundbreaking industry pushing the boundaries of women everywhere. No, you're not. You paid for a ticket and you had a thrill ride.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Does it excite you, the fact that we have private companies that now can do this, like Blue Origin or SpaceX or Boeing? I feel like that, that we need all of them to be healthy so they are competing and kind of keep moving the needle forward, so to speak.
Stuart Brockwell
Oh yeah, for sure. And I have nothing wrong with that. All support commercial space flight. Nothing wrong with it. The only issue I have with this is the optics and the way they framed it. I think Joe Rogan made some similar comments about it that I kind of highlight the way I feel about it. They were just probably presenting it in a way that was, I felt, not fair to the real, the real people pushing the boundaries. But no, I mean, if you want space. SpaceX having commercial space flight tickets available, sure, that's great. Love it. You know, I think Elon's wanting to take people to Mars by the end of the next decade or two. So I mean, I'm all about that. Nothing wrong with that.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, Blue Origin has not got to orbit yet, at least with astronauts or people. And it has been said that getting to space is one step, but getting to orbit is as Big or a larger step than just getting to space. Do you feel that's accurate?
Stuart Brockwell
Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm not as big of a space guy as you are, but even I know that getting into orbit requires a lot more mass and, you know, specialized flight hardware than just reaching, you know, 100 whatever kilometers it is to reach space technically.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Well, you. You would think that they would, and I'm sure they are working on that next step, but it, you know, you got to go two stages then, and. And you're talking about starting a stage when you're already flying at a hypersonic speed. That's a. I mean, that's a whole different thing than we just got a big rocket motor when we can get off the ground.
Stuart Brockwell
Exactly, exactly. It's a big deal. And not to over. Not to kind of downplay their success. I remember five, 10 years ago thinking, am I going to see commercial space flight in my lifetime? And it's nice to see us move in that direction.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yes, it is.
Stuart Brockwell
I think we're a ways off from commercial orbital space flight or, you know, visit to the moon type thing. I think. I don't know that we're going to see that for a few years, but it's a step in the right direction. Yeah. Nothing wrong with that.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Yeah. And, you know, they're pushing the technology, which means that it will drag along the technology of the Internet and computers and a lot of other things. Medical will benefit from all of this, so I'm glad to see them all moving forward. It never happened as quick as I'd like to see it, but at least we're headed that way. Our guest technologist is Stuart Brockwell from Surge Technologies in Birmingham. Stuart, thanks for taking time with us, and we will check in with you again.
Stuart Brockwell
All right, looking forward to it. Talk to you soon.
Bill Bubba Bussy
Thank you, man. Thanks for being on our program. Bubba on the Lake.
