Okay, okay. I'm up. It's not like I'm running late. Oh, wait. Of course I am. I'm gonna be late again. Coat. Bag. Keys. Come on, come on. Rain again. Of course, it always makes the drive feel longer. Like the road's never going to end. But it's not so bad. There's something calming about the sound of it and the way everything looks fresh and quiet.

It's always the same. Those cheesy ads, the crackling signal, and this long, empty stretch of road. I think this might actually be my favorite part of the day. There it is. It's waiting for me. Always waiting. No matter how many times I see it, it still doesn't feel real. A building this size, just sitting here. No signs, no markings. Just metal and concrete rising out of the trees like a foreign object that doesn't belong. All right, Violet. Another day, another shift. It's not glamorous, but, hey, it's a job. God, it's cold in here. You'd think they'd turn up the heat just a little, but maybe they like it this way. Good morning, Violet. Morning. You're here bright and early as always.
Violet
You know how it is. Go ahead, though. You're cutting it a little close today. Oh, and Violet, have a productive day.
Emily
Productive day. It's not much, but, hey, it's better than silence. I'll take it. It's so quiet in here. You'd think it'd drive you mad, but honestly, there's something peaceful about it. Like the place is giving you space to think. The hum of the vents, the machines. It's almost like it's breathing with you. Just enough to remind you that you're not really alone. My office. My little slice of life. Same old setup. The desk that wobbles if you lean on it wrong. The chair that somehow feels both too hard and too soft at the same time. And that light. It buzzes. Just enough to remind me that I'm not alone. Annoying, sure, but it beats silence. At least it's trying to be useful. The comms device. Ugly, sure, and it takes up half the wall, but it does what it's supposed to do. People rely on it, so I guess I do, too. It looks like something straight out of a sci fi film. Buttons everywhere, lights blinking at random. Kind of cool in a way, if you don't think too hard about what it's for. Every morning, the same routine. Let's check the list. Names, numbers, and bunkers. My little roster of lives to check in on. Some I know, some I'll probably never hear from again. Okay, Blackwater symptom, the core, Aurora Station. Three bunkers, Three worlds, really, and me. They're a lifeline. Or at least the person who makes sure someone's paying attention. Let's see. Three. Emily. Five, Johnson. Eight, Ellis. No updates yet. No word at all. Actually, some of these names come up all the time. Others I only see once or twice. Before they're gone, I try to think they're somewhere better. That they're finished their time and moved on. At least that's what I tell myself. But it's not my job to wonder. I'm here to monitor, report, and move on. Asking questions, that's a luxury I don't get. Okay, let's get started.
Violet
Attention. The morning briefing will commence in five minutes. All personnel are required to attend.
Emily
Morning briefing. Damn it. I completely forgot again. Of course I'm late. They're already in there. Probably halfway through.

Great, Just what I needed. Everyone's Staring.
Henry
Please take a seat. Or stand, if you prefer.
Emily
He makes it sound polite, but I can feel it. That tone. Like a knife sliding under your ribs.
Henry
As I was saying, the situation in Blackwater Sanctum remains stable, but there's been a minor uptick in anomalies. Nothing to be concerned about. The core, however, has reported a 12% increase in glitches this quarter. Alarming, but not entirely unexpected.
Emily
Not expected. That's one way to put it.
Henry
Aurora Station continues to operate within acceptable parameters, though crew rotation remains ahead of schedule. Psychological strain appears to be the primary factor. Violet, your updates, if you would.
Emily
Of course. Blackwater Sanctum reports no major incidents this week. Crew morale remains stable and we're on schedule for the next supply drop. Aurora Station has two crew members request early rotation due to stress. Both are being monitored for potential reassignment. The Corps? Just say it. Keep it professional. Don't let them hear the hesitation. Has experienced three casualties over the past five months. One was a confirmed psychological break. He. He didn't survive the incident. Don't picture it. Just read the report in your head. Bullet points. No emotion. The other two. God, why did they even try that? Were part of an experiment to test if more than one crew member in the bunker would improve performance and morale. It didn't. The two crew members, Lang and Hoffman, turned on each other, escalating tensions.
Henry
Elaborate.
Emily
He already knows. He's just making me say it. They believed the other one was compromised. That something about the Corps had changed them. Lang attacked Hoffman first, and Hoffman retaliated. Tell them the rest. No point leaving it out. Both sustained fatal injuries. Lang bled out and Hoffman took his own life afterwards. Every time. Every damn time.
Henry
Thank you, Violet.
Emily
Of course.
Henry
The core's glitches seem to be increasing in severity. We need people in there to monitor these glitches and make sure everything goes according to plan. Reports of crew members refusing to even approach the core chamber. Troubling, wouldn't you agree?
Emily
Troubling doesn't even begin to cover it. Yes, sir. Troubling.
Henry
Your updates are thorough, as always. And as I mentioned earlier, most of your assigned crew with your allocated bunkers complete their terms without incident. A rare accomplishment.
Emily
They're looking at me again. Some of them don't care. But others. I can see it. The unease. Like they're waiting for me to slip up or say the wrong thing.
Henry
Still, I'd like to discuss something further after the meeting. Please. Stay behind, Violet.
Emily
Yes, sir. Of course. Stay behind. Perfect. Just perfect. Alone with Henry. This will be fun.
Henry
Shall we begin Have a seat, Violet. You know, I don't often get the opportunity to have these one on one discussions with my team. It's. Refreshing.
Emily
Refreshing. Right.
Henry
Let's get straight to it, shall we? The glitches in the core are escalating faster than we've seen in the past decade. You've been closely monitoring the situation, Violet. Your role places you uniquely at the center of it all.
Emily
I provide the updates, sir. Nothing more.
Henry
Come now, Violet. You're underselling yourself. Your updates aren't just reports. They're the most comprehensive data this company has ever seen. Your records, your performance, Flawless. Better than anyone who's come before you.
Emily
Is that a compliment or is he about to drop the hammer?
Henry
In fact, your records show something remarkable. Do you see it?
Emily
I. I don't understand.
Henry
Your allocated members, the ones you oversee in the bunkers. Almost all of them complete their six month terms.
Emily
I'm just doing my job, sir.
Henry
No, Violet, you're doing more than your job. Whatever it is you're doing, it's working.
Emily
What is this? He's never this complimentary.
Henry
Do you know what the standard completion rate is for the bunkers?
Emily
No, sir.
Henry
42%. 42% of workers last the full six months. Your record. 87%.
Emily
87%? That can't be right.
Henry
It's unprecedented. Whatever it is you're doing, it's keeping them alive longer at least.
Emily
I don't think I'm doing anything special, sir.
Henry
Modesty. That's admirable, Violet. But let's not pretend you don't know your value. Which brings me to the point of this conversation.
Emily
Here it comes.
Henry
I have an offer for you.
Emily
An offer?
Henry
Something unique. A way for you to take your work, your results, to the next level.
Emily
And what does that mean exactly?
Henry
All in due time. For now, I simply need to know if you're willing to go further.
Emily
Go further? What does that even mean? I'd need more details, sir.
Henry
Of course. For now, consider it an opportunity and take some time to think about it. That will be all for today. Violet. Violet. You're more important to this company than you realize.
Emily
More important than I realize? What does that mean? An opportunity, he said. Like I'd ever push for something like that. I'm not whatever it is he thinks I am. 87% are not. I'm just doing the job the way anyone would. I should have said something, asked for more details. But I froze. Same as always. Anyway, back to work.

It's always like this at the start. It's like tuning a radio, except the voices don't always match the moment. Sometimes they're ahead, sometimes behind. Or maybe it's just interference. Something in the building.

Emily
Jack? No. No, I've never spoken to anyone named Jack. Listen carefully, Emily. If there's someone in there with you, you need to. What the hell? It just stopped. Emily, are you there? This doesn't make sense. It's never just cut out like this. Emily, respond. Can you hear me? Interference from where? No response. This isn't right. This is Handler Violet reporting an anomaly in Blackwater Sanctum, Bunker 3. Communication with Emily was lost mid transmission. And there's interference on the line.
Violet
Acknowledged. Nature of the transmission.
Emily
Prior to loss, Emily reported an unknown individual in Bunker three. The subject claims to be named Jack and said he worked with me in Bunker eight. I have no records of him.
Violet
Repeat, subject claims to have worked with you in Bunker eight.
Emily
Affirmative.
Violet
Incident logged Response unit deploying to Blackwater Sanctum immediately.
Emily
Understood. We'll await further instructions. They're sending a response unit. Good. But who the hell is Jack?

Bunker 8: Episode S02E02 - "Violet"
Release Date: March 18, 2025
Host/Author: The Midnight Mystery (Dean Smyth)
In the second episode of the second season, titled "Violet," Bunker 8 delves deeper into the enigmatic operations of one of Earth's most secretive military outposts. This episode focuses on the intricate dynamics between the key characters—Violet, Emily, and Henry—and unravels the psychological strains and mysterious events unfolding within Bunker 8.
The episode opens with Emily navigating her morning routine amid the relentless isolation of Bunker 8. Her internal monologue sets the tone for the psychological tension pervasive in the facility:
"It's like tuning a radio, except the voices don't always match the moment. Sometimes they're ahead, sometimes behind. Or maybe it's just interference. Something in the building."
[20:58] Emily
As Emily prepares for the day, Henry initiates the morning briefing, highlighting recent anomalies and glitches within the core systems:
Henry: "The situation in Blackwater Sanctum remains stable, but there's been a minor uptick in anomalies. Nothing to be concerned about. The core, however, has reported a 12% increase in glitches this quarter. Alarming, but not entirely unexpected."
[12:28] Henry
During the briefing, Emily provides a detailed report on the status of various bunkers and crew members:
Emily: "Blackwater Sanctum reports no major incidents this week. Crew morale remains stable and we're on schedule for the next supply drop. Aurora Station has two crew members request early rotation due to stress. Both are being monitored for potential reassignment."
[13:27] Emily
She further reveals unsettling details about the Corps, including casualties and failed experiments aimed at enhancing crew performance:
Emily: "The Corps has experienced three casualties over the past five months. One was a confirmed psychological break. He didn't survive the incident... The two crew members, Lang and Hoffman, turned on each other, escalating tensions."
[13:02] - [14:38] Emily
A significant portion of the episode centers on Violet's exceptional performance in her role. Henry commends her during the meeting:
Henry: "42% of workers last the full six months. Your record—87%. Whatever it is you're doing, it's keeping them alive longer at least."
[18:03] Henry
Violet is visibly perplexed and modest about her achievements:
Emily: "87% are not. I'm just doing the job the way anyone would."
[18:45] Emily
This conversation hints at underlying manipulations or unknown factors contributing to her high success rate, raising questions about the true nature of her work.
The episode takes a suspenseful turn when a mysterious transmission interrupts communications:
Violet: "Violet, they're going to want to hear this."
[21:19] Violet
An unknown individual named Jack claims to have worked with Emily at Bunker 8—a claim Emily doesn't recognize:
Emily: "Jack? No. No, I've never spoken to anyone named Jack."
[21:31] Emily
Dean Smyth (the host) narrates the escalating tension as Emily tries to make sense of the anomaly:
Emily: "This doesn't make sense. It's never just cut out like this. Emily, respond. Can you hear me?"
[21:27] Emily
The communication lags and interference hint at deeper mysteries within the facility, suggesting that Bunker 8 may be entangled in phenomena beyond routine operations.
In response to the anomaly, Violet logs the incident, and a response unit is dispatched to investigate Blackwater Sanctum:
Violet: "Incident logged. Response unit deploying to Blackwater Sanctum immediately."
[22:47] Violet
However, the lingering question remains—Who is Jack? The episode leaves listeners on a cliffhanger, contemplating the implications of Jack’s appearance and the true extent of the anomalies within Bunker 8.
"Violet" masterfully blends psychological tension with supernatural elements, deepening the overarching mystery of Bunker 8. The episode's meticulous character development and suspenseful narrative pave the way for future revelations.
