Atlas documentation log entry 473. Dr. Amira Harper, Senior Research Liaison, bunker zero. Subject designation 07. Operative name Jack. Former military, Australian national, recruited into the ATLAS Initiative by Director Maddox following his discharge from service. Assigned to Bunker eight as a solo containment monitor. I'm recording this for the official record. As of this moment, Subject 07 has been transported to bunker zero and is currently with Director Maddox for purposes that have not been disclosed to me. I want to note for the record that I was not briefed on the nature of their meeting. I was not consulted. Director Maddox authorized the subject's presence here directly, bypassing standard research protocols. I've submitted a formal request for inclusion. It has not been acknowledged. For the record, I'll summarize the subject's activities across the bunker Network today. Date Subject 07 was stationed at bunker 8 in Antarctica as a solo operative. Standard role systems monitoring, cell block management, core observation. During his assignment, the core door within Bunker eight opened during a containment cycle while the subject was inside one of the cells. The circumstances surrounding this event remain unexplained. No authorized personnel triggered the opening. No system malfunction was logged. Following the corridor event. The subject was transported, not relocated, not extracted. Transported? He reappeared inside Bunker three, a deep ocean containment site in the Pacific in the year 1952. I want to be clear about what I'm documenting here. The subject claims and available evidence supports that he was displaced approximately 72 years into the past through an interaction with the bunker 8 core. Atlas has no record of this capability. No experiment, no protocol. No theoretical framework within the Initiative accounts for temporal displacement of a living subject. And yet it happened. While in 1952, the subject encountered the Bunker III operative at the time, a woman named Emily. The subject also made contact with an anomalous entity within the well. He survived a containment breach and eventually found a way to return to the present timeline. The specifics of his return are still under review. What happened next is. Is where the record becomes incomplete. The subject returned to the present timeline. How? We don't know. Bunker 8 experienced a catastrophic event. What internal reports refer to as the Fall Initiative. The facility collapsed. Containment failed across multiple levels. By every measure, we have, no one should have walked out of that site alive. And yet the subject Did. ATLAS has no explanation for how he survived. And the subject himself has offered nothing useful on the matter. Beyond that, we have no record of how the subject escaped Antarctica. Bunker 8 is in one of the most remote locations on Earth. No extraction team was dispatched, no transport was arranged. He simply reappeared. What we do know is this. David Harlan, the transport operative originally assigned to deliver the subject to Bunker eight, was found dead, murdered. Evidence points directly to the subject. David was ATLAS personnel. He had a family and the subject killed him. Following David's death, the subject was went dark off grid. No contact with Atlas, no known associates, no trail. He was on the run for a considerable period before Director Maddox was finally able to locate and apprehend him. The subject was brought to Bunker Zero in Maddox's custody. Current network status? The bunker containment system is under significant strain. Fluctuations have been reported across multiple sites. Bunker 5 in the Alps is experiencing escalating temporal distortions. Bunker 3 is showing instability in the wells containment field. Communication blackouts with at least three remote sites in the last 48 hours. Power failures at two others. The system is degrading slowly but consistently. Every diagnostic we run shows the same trajectory. Without intervention, containment integrity across the network will continue to deteriorate. There is one additional piece of intelligence that is relevant to the subject's file. Bunker 1. It's unlike the other sites, it serves as a unique containment facility. Facility? Inside Bunker one, ATLAS is holding the last known surviving human being from what we believe to be the future. I need to be precise here. This isn't a glitch. This isn't a fragment or an echo pulled through the well. This is a living, conscious human being who somehow traveled backwards from a point in time that hasn't happened yet. Someone who has already lived through what's coming. They are currently alive and in captivity within Bunker one. A previous ATLAS operative was able to extract limited information from the captive during a series of interviews. Most of what they provided was incoherent or unverifiable. But among the intelligence gathered, there was one directive that was specific. The captive stated, and I'm quoting directly from the operative's debrief, Jack must not return to Bunker eight. That was it. No context, no explanation, no elaboration. Despite continued attempts at interrogation, ATLAS has been unable to determine when this individual originated from. We don't know what event they were warning against. We don't know what happens if Jack returns to Bunker eight. We only know that the warning was delivered with absolute conviction, as though it was the only thing that mattered. Regarding the core Containment system. The catalyst remains connected. Violet. The catalyst designated Violet Penrose remains integrated into the primary containment framework. System integrity is currently holding, but diagnostic reports show signs of progressive degradation. Stress fractures in the containment field that weren't there six months ago. Power draw from the catalyst has increased by 14% in the last three weeks alone. The system is compensating, but it's working harder than it should be. I've reviewed the latest biometric data from the catalyst chamber. Her vitals are stable, but declining. Heart rate is lower than last month. Cognitive response times have slowed. She's tired. That's not a clinical term. I know that. But anyone who spent time in that chamber with her would use the same words. She's been holding this system together for over 60 years and she is tired. Containment projections indicate that the current rate of degradation is manageable in the short term. If the network instability can be addressed within the next. No. Critical system failure. Catalyst disconnection detected.
Kat and Nat from Katnat Unfiltered
No.
Dr. Amira Harper
Containment integrity compromised. What has he done? All personnel report to emergency stations. What has he done?

Warning. Containment integrity failure detected across sectors four through all. Non essential personnel evacuate to designated safe zones immediately. This is not a drill.
Jack
The second I heard your name, I went straight to Maddox and told him I'm the one in that room. Not a request, not a favor. And he said yes. Didn't even hesitate. Because nobody in this facility gives a what happens to you?
Dr. Amira Harper
Biohazard alert. Atmospheric contamination at sub levels. Seal all ventilation junctions.
Jack
He called me after he dropped you off. Said the run went fine. Said you were quiet, kept yourself
Paige from Giggly Squad
good.
Jack
That was it. And then you killed him. And that wasn't even enough for you, was it? You came here and you ripped apart the only thing keeping any of this standing. Every bunker, every site, every person on the surface who has no idea what's underneath them. Yeah, you hear those alarms? That's the whole network collapsing. Billions of people are going to fucking die out there, and they'll never even know who did this to them.
Dr. Amira Harper
Structural compromise detected. Emergency bulkheads closing. Do not attempt to exit.
Jack
He had two kids. A girl and a boy. They're out there right now. And whatever is coming, whatever you just let loose, it's coming for them, too. Because you felt sorry for someone. My niece. My nephew. That's on you. So say something. Say one word. Say something. Harlan. What did you just say? Your name tag. It says Harlan. You're David's. I'm done talking.
Dr. Amira Harper
That's enough.
Kat and Nat from Katnat Unfiltered
Ma', am.
Jack
I was told to.
Dr. Amira Harper
I said enough. Step back Out. Alert suspended. This is a temporary measure. Do not stand down. Violet is gone.
Jack
And who the hell are you?
Dr. Amira Harper
Dr. Amira Harper. And I knew her a lot longer than you did. The containment network is in free fall. Every bunker in the system is showing signs of critical degradation. Power failures, Communication blackouts. Structural instability at sites we thought were secure. The cascade started the moment you disconnected her, and it hasn't stopped. What you did in that chamber has set off a chain reaction across every bunker on this planet. Every single one. Do you understand that? She was the only person in this whole operation I actually give a damn about. And you took her apart like she was a piece of equipment.
Jack
How long?
Dr. Amira Harper
How long what?
Jack
How long did you know? How long did you know what was happening to her in there? Because you don't get to sit across from me and act like this is my fault. You saw her. You saw what they turned her into, and you did nothing.
Dr. Amira Harper
Don't you dare.
Jack
You talk about her like you cared about her. I don't know you. I don't know what you were to her, but she was still in that machine. Whatever you did, it wasn't the thing that needed to be done.
Dr. Amira Harper
You have no idea what you're talking about.
Jack
Then tell me I'm wrong.
Dr. Amira Harper
I did everything I could. Everything. Within a system that doesn't care about individuals and doesn't ask for opinions I fought for her. I submitted requests, proposals. Alternative containment modules. Every single one was denied. Every single one. You want to know who sat with her? Me. You want to know who talked to her when no one else would? Me. When the rest of Alice treated her like infrastructure, like a component they could monitor and maintain and forget about. I was the one in that chamber. I was the one who treated her like a human being. And, yes, we kept her alive. Because keeping her alive meant keeping billions of people alive. That's not cruelty, Jack. That's a choice. An impossible one. One person to save everyone else. You think anyone wanted to do that? You think I wanted that?
Jack
A choice? You keep calling it a choice. She didn't choose anything. You chose. Every single day, you chose. And then you went home and told yourself it was necessary.
Dr. Amira Harper
You think I don't know that? You think I didn't see it every time I walked into that chamber? But the alternative was 7 billion people. 7 billion. That's not a system failure, Jack. That's a weight no one should ever have to carry. And she carried it every single day because no one else could.
Jack
She didn't carry. Was strapped to her. There's a difference. And every day she stayed in that chamber, you all got a little better at looking the other way.
Dr. Amira Harper
Don't you sit there and tell me she didn't matter to me. You knew her for weeks. I knew her for years.
Jack
Years? Yes, years of sitting with her, talking to her. And in all that time, all those years, did you ever once try to get her out?
Dr. Amira Harper
You don't understand how Atlas works.
Jack
I'm not asking about Atlas. I'm asking about you. Did you ever look at what they'd done to her and think, this has to stop? Not a proposal, not a request. Not something you filed and waited for someone else to approve. Did you ever actually try to stop it?
Dr. Amira Harper
There was no stopping it. You don't just walk into a facility like this.
Jack
That's a no, then. You cared about her. Sure. But she was still in there, wasn't she? Every day you came in, and she was still in there.
Dr. Amira Harper
That's not fair.
Jack
She asked me to do it. She looked right at me and she asked me. Said she'd been holding on for a long time, and she was done. That's it.
Dr. Amira Harper
Stop.
Jack
She told me she was ready, that she'd been ready for a long time. And she said she trusted me, that I was the last thing she needed to see.
Dr. Amira Harper
I said, stop, please.
Jack
And then she smiled. That was the last thing she did. She just smiled.

region, sub level 9, we need backup down here now. Specimens have broken through the secondary barrier. They're in the east corridor. Oh God. What the fuck is. What the hell is going on?
Dr. Amira Harper
Oh God. The containment specimens, they breached the lower levels.
Jack
What are you talking about? What's in the lower levels?
Dr. Amira Harper
It was research. We were studying them to.
Jack
Studying them? Amira, what the are you studying down there? God help us. Help us, please. Amira. What the is happening? This has been Bunker eight, a Midnight Mystery production created and written by Dean Smyth. Before the credits we've got a brief ad coming up. Back in a moment.

Podcast: Bunker 8
Host: The Midnight Mystery
Air date: June 30, 2026
The season premiere returns listeners to the heart of Bunker 8, a top-secret Antarctic site, immediately confronting the fallout left by Jack, the ex-military protagonist. Told largely through a tense, official log (voiced by Dr. Amira Harper) and furious, emotionally charged confrontation between Harper and Jack, “Aftermath” explores the catastrophic consequences of Jack’s actions in the previous season: the unraveling of the ATLAS Initiative’s containment network, the mysterious death of a transport operative, and the ethical devastation of the system keeping the world safe from reality-defying phenomena.
The episode grapples with themes of responsibility, institutional complicity, the cost of impossible choices, and the horrors hidden under the planet’s surface. With containment failures spreading and personal histories colliding, this horror-sci-fi drama sets a dark, relentless tone for the season ahead.

The episode’s tone is bleak, claustrophobic, and full of dread. The characters’ language is raw, direct, and often laced with emotion: regret, accusation, and resignation. The official, coldly factual style of Dr. Harper’s log entry stands in stark contrast to the impassioned, messy showdown between Harper and Jack.
“Aftermath” thrusts listeners into a world spinning out of control—Jack, complicit in both mercy and murder, confronts a system’s hypocrisy embodied by Harper, as the ghosts of institutional cruelty and impossible choices haunt them both. The episode masterfully weaves personal trauma and cosmic horror, keeping listeners on edge as Bunker 8’s collapse imperils not just its inhabitants but every living soul above. The devastating chain reaction set in motion by Violet Penrose’s death leaves the future uncertain—and the stakes impossibly high.
For fans of psychological horror and high-concept sci-fi, the episode is a tense, chilling reminder: when the systems built to protect us are rotten at the core, there may be no one left to save us.
