A podcast to help you discover how to cultivate a life of hopeful expectation and daily celebration.
I’m Darcie Frost, an Oklahoma girl now living in New Zealand and leading a church with my husband (and our two toddlers in tow). Through weekly episodes released every Monday, I’ll be exploring Christian theology and studies in psychology to better understand the powerful effects of gratitude and hope. No matter what season of life you are in, we could all benefit from a bit more joy infused into those ordinary, everyday moments.
I’ll be tackling questions like: How do I keep believing after so many setbacks? Why hasn’t God answered my prayer yet? How do you know God is good and on your side? How do I find the strength to celebrate others, while walking through grief, disappointment, and pain? What’s the difference between happiness and joy?

How is it that some people who have faced the most horrific events in life can still find it possible to live with joy, delight, and hope for a brighter future? How do Holocaust survivors go from simply surviving to thriving well into their 90s? How do people who once struggled with depression and anxiety turn a corner towards hope and wholeness? Well, the state of your mind is connected to the state of your immunity. The condition of the roots in your mind determine the condition of the fruit you produce in your life. If there's any form of misbelief based on past experiences, it will lead to misalignment with the current reality. And that sadly leads to many missed opportunities to experience the delight that can be found every day. Yes, there is delight to be found even on the hardest days. But it all comes down to who and what you agree with.God bless,DarcieConnect with me on Instagram: @carryconfetti Sign up to Cup of Confetti, my monthly newsletter: https://carryconfetti.kit.com/b58e8ac914If you'd like to support the podcast or say thank you for a particular episode, you're welcome to buy me a coffee or purchase a poetry print here: https://buymeacoffee.com/carryconfetti

Are you the type to say "I'm fine" even when you're very much not fine? Or are you the type to keep the conversation of your emotional vent going by saying "just let me say one more thing and then I'm done"?Today, we're talking about two toxic things we tend to do with our emotions: bottle and brood.Toxic thoughts can lead to toxic emotions, so let's talk about how we can better learn to navigate our emotions. Let's discover how to believe the best in everyone and in every situation, with God's help.Love,Darcie (a previous bottler) ----------Books Mentioned: Switch On Your Brain by Caroline Leaf Emotional Agility by Susan DavidTelling Yourself the Truth by William Backus & Marie ChapianConnect with me on Instagram: @carryconfetti Sign up to Cup of Confetti, my monthly newsletter: https://carryconfetti.kit.com/b58e8ac914If you'd like to support the podcast or say thank you for a particular episode, you're welcome to buy me a coffee or purchase a poetry print here: https://buymeacoffee.com/carryconfetti

Rumination can trick us into thinking we're actively trying to solve a problem by thinking about it so much, when really we're stuck in a negative loop that is harming our brains. It happens to the best of us, and this episode will reveal the four most common hooks of rumination (I bet you can relate to at least 1 but probably all 4 at some point in your life). If we want to work towards focusing on all that Philippians 4:8 tells us to focus on, then we have to be able to identify when our minds are leaping elsewhere in order to reign those thoughts back in and take them captive.--Book mentioned: Emotional Agility by Susan DavidConnect with me on Instagram: @carryconfetti Sign up to Cup of Confetti, my monthly newsletter: https://carryconfetti.kit.com/b58e8ac914If you'd like to support the podcast or say thank you for a particular episode, you're welcome to buy me a coffee or purchase a poetry print here: https://buymeacoffee.com/carryconfetti

In this episode, we explore the powerful influence of the internal narrator we all have... and it's a narrator that can't always be trusted. Although we don't intend to, our brain can come into alignment with a lie and if it gets repeated enough, we then believe it to be true (even when it's not). We can come into alignment with harmful narratives that were handed to us from previous generations, spoken over us at some point in our lives, or perhaps shaped by negative experiences where our emotions took the reins and still refuse to let go.Too easily, the internal chatterbox gets us hooked into toxic thinking that doesn't help us or our future. So, let's change the narrative. One intentional thought at a time.Books mentioned in this week's episode: Emotional Agility by Susan DavidSwitch On Your Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf --Ladies that are 13+ years old are also invited to Replenish Women's Conference at my local church, Elim Christian Centre Papakura! There is so much joy in being an amateur. It's a word that often has a negative connotation attached, but there is far more to this word than we realise. It doesn't just mean "unskilled" as many have come to believe.Once you reframe this word in your mind, there's advice within this episode that has been game changer for me when I approach any new project, any new hobby, or any new skill I want to learn. I hope this advice will be releasing and empowering for you too! Also, there’s a chance to win a giveaway inspired by recent topics. What do "grandma hobbies" and therapy techniques like EMDR have in common? In this episode, we'll talk about the research and the intentional rest that old school hobbies are bringing young people that are overly saturated by a digital world. To sit down with a creative project, get your hands messy, and create something tangible is beneficial to your mental health in a number of ways. I've even seen the real impact in my own life when I set time aside for projects like embroidery, sewing, weaving, and gardening.Today, I'm also joined by my dear friend Maree Beaven, who is the "Queen of Crochet". She'll tell you about the role that crochet and other hands-on projects have played in her life and in her community work she regularly does with people of all ages in South Auckland, New Zealand.Hope you enjoy this conversation!Love,DarcieConnect with me on Instagram: @carryconfetti Sign up to Cup of Confetti, my monthly newsletter: https://carryconfetti.kit.com/b58e8ac914If you'd like to support the podcast or say thank you for a particular episode, you're welcome to buy me a coffee or purchase a poetry print here: https://buymeacoffee.com/carryconfetti

Why the sudden trend towards an "analogue" life where people are filling bags with easy art kits, decks of cards, polaroid cameras, and more? Well, our brains our facing digital fatigue and something tactile in our hands is helping people around the world reconnect with their physical world and feel in control of something. Crafts help us cope. Busy hands help quiet a busy mind.In this episode, I'll tell you about some research I've discovered and also chat through all the mental benefits of working with your hands in some capacity.Go ahead and click play... craft or garden or clean while you listen. Did you know that the first person in the Bible explicitly mentioned to be filled with the Holy Spirit was an artist? Have you ever considered how many artisans were used by God throughout history? And what does that mean going forward with the ever-increasing use of AI? Let's talk about it. Artisans vs AI. Today, we'll open up the conversation and look into some scripture references about artisans and the role they played. In the coming weeks, we will dive into the brain benefits of working with your hands and the powerful effect it has on your mental health.Even if you're not an "artist", these episodes will cause you to think and hopefully lead you to create in some way! --Easter Special from last year can be found here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2431016/episodes/16965681Connect with me on Instagram: @carryconfetti Sign up to Cup of Confetti, my monthly newsletter: https://carryconfetti.kit.com/b58e8ac914If you'd like to support the podcast or say thank you for a particular episode, you're welcome to buy me a coffee or purchase a poetry print here: https://buymeacoffee.com/carryconfetti

Let's talk about putting the findings of my "fun audit" to the test... with an experiment that required making space for my personal fun magnets to collide. It was time to touch a soccer ball again. And boy oh boy, did I learn some things along the way. I hope you are inspired by this honest reflection of a 35-year-old Mom of toddlers getting out onto the field again with some guys (even guys half her age) and seeing how it all played out physically and mentally.I'll also teach you about psychoneuroimmunology and how your internal language is translated into real signals to your body. Fascinating research!Would love to hear about your own experiments!
