Today, Katie and the Casualties break down the latest from the Winter Games, including the fact that everyone's medals keep breaking, Team USA's dominance in women's hockey, caesar salad blogs, Ilia Malinin skating to his own deep thoughts, the insane story of a Norwegian biathlete using his bronze medal interview to announce that he cheated on his girlfriend, drones, Dutch speed skating, skiing downhill, skiing uphill, and why it's OK to be afraid of flying through the air on skis. Then, multi-platinum recording artist Noah Kahan sits down with Katie [40:25] from his sold-out show in San Francisco to discuss his new album "The Great Divide", his storytelling, his fans, his Easter Eggs, "The Great Divide Tour" this Summer, his experience playing at Fenway Park, his Red Sox fandom, playing the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game, his love of Chelsea FC and the great Frank Lampard, the greatness of golf as a mental test and why he'...

Katie Nolan
Hey, Isabella, did you see the Spanish figure skater did his minions routine? He did.
Isabella
I saw a piece of it. How'd he do?
Katie Nolan
I don't know. I don't think he did well. Chris, where did he place?
Chris
25Th.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
No, he's currently in 25th in the world. True, true, true.
Isabella
I probably wouldn't even get into top 1000, right?
Katie Nolan
I'm not top 25 at anything in the world.
Isabella
I don't think I like how he only has one suspender. You notice that?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Was it supposed to look like the other one was down? Is that what it. I didn't look closely at it. It was while we were live on.
Isabella
Too familiar with minion costume culture.
Katie Nolan
I know culture.
Isabella
I don't know much about the minion community, but like, I. I like that he took his own take off.
Katie Nolan
I have a minion. One of my best friends is a minion.
Brady
Hello.
Katie Nolan
Hi. And welcome to Casuals, a sports podcast. It doesn't care what you know. We're just happy that you're here. Sports are for everybody, and we want to make sure everybody loves them and has access to them. That's what we do here. I'm Katie Nolan, the host of this. This whole kit and caboodle, you know, that's what the kids are saying these days. Joined here up top briefly by my casualties, the producers of this podcast, we have our sports newbie, Isabella.
Isabella
G'.
Katie Nolan
Day. Good day. We have our Australian editor extraordinaire, Chris.
Chris
Hi. That was very well done, Isabella.
Isabella
I was expecting to go like, hey.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I thought you were gonna Do Isabella and then ba ba ba ba ba ba ba rady.
Brady
I can't do either one of them. Hello.
Katie Nolan
Hi. We're gonna break down some of the Olympic headlines because the Winter Olympics are in full swing, and we want to talk about some of the crazier headlines that have come out of the Games. It's one of the best parts of this time of year. Of this time of. I guess it's every two years you get the winter or every four years you get the Winter Olympics. Every two years you get the Olympics. You get what I'm saying? It's fun. The fun part are the little weird headlines, the weirdest of which is that Norwegian guy that just came out and was like, I won the bronze but lost the girl. I guess he made a real fool of himself. So we're gonna get into all of that. But coming up later, a little bit later in the episode, maybe one of our biggest guests. I know we've had Ben Affleck and Matt Damon before, and especially given what I'm into in terms of and where I'm from, that's a pretty big get. But Noah Khan is our guest today. We got to talk to him last week. He did a show for Sirius around the super bowl and sat down with us for like, like a half hour. Brady?
Brady
Yeah. 25 minutes with Noah Khan.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I got to spend 25 whole minutes with. You might know him from Stick Season. Stick Season was the big one that kind of burst him onto the scene. He's from Vermont. He's grew up on, like a tree farm. He's been doing this for a while. Just released his new single, the Great Divide, which is going to be on his new album that comes out, I believe, in April. And then he's going on a tour this summer. And the tour stops at a ton of like, baseball stadiums and like the Rose Bowl. He's got like a lot of cool sports venues that he's doing his shows at. So we talked to him for a little bit about his sports fandom. He's very funny, sneaky funny. I did not expect that. But he really had me laughing. And I was watching, actually, because I tell him in the interview that I spent the week embedded in his fan base. I wanted to better understand because he has die hard fans, partially, I think, because he really let people in on the song making process. When he was making Stick Season, he like posted it as he was writing it, and people really came along with him for the journey. And I think it's really made his fan base Very dedicated. But anyway, because of that, my they now pop up in my Reddit algorithm. Like I'm always getting the Noah Khan subredd it. And so I saw that tickets, I guess, went on sale for his big tour and man, I feel bad that people had a lot of trouble getting tickets and like waiting in these queues. What is it with ticket sales now that is completely Destroyed Ever since 2020, I feel like all of these companies are like, you see artists trying to find ways to make sure that affordable tickets get to their fans, and it seems like it's gotten way complicated and I do not envy that side of the business. But if you are a Noah Khan fan, especially if you're new here to this podcast, we see you and shout out and I'm sorry and hopefully you got the tickets that you wanted. I did. Don't you feel like in the last few years, like, getting tickets to a live event has become this, like, incredibly difficult thing to do?
Brady
We can have 80 million people stream a Jake Paul fight with no problem.
Katie Nolan
Not no problem. They dropped that the stream a couple times, I feel like.
Brady
But like 15,000 people log on to to Ticketmaster at once and the thing crashes.
Katie Nolan
I know.
Brady
Sit in 12 waiting rooms and the time just keeps getting higher.
Katie Nolan
And it's not the artist's fault. I know. I even saw Noah put out a bunch of stuff about how he was going to try to control the process to make it better for fans. It just feels like these companies that make all of this money off the sale of these tickets can't get their together long enough to make sure that people get to go to the shows they want to go to. So if you wanted to get tickets to Noah Khan, hopefully you did. And if you didn't, hopefully there's going to be another layer of sale and you'll get them then. I don't know. I just don't like when people are disappointed when they want to go to something and they can't. You know what I mean? Anyway, so that's coming up in a little bit, but first let's talk about some Olympic stuff. Do we have any emails that we need to get to? We haven't probably done an email or voicemail in a minute. Chris, we got anything going in the box?
Chris
We have one that I'd like to point out, considering our love of orienteering on this podcast.
Katie Nolan
That's right. Big sport. We're big fans of that giant sport. We think it's gonna be America's fifth major sport.
Chris
Let's hope so.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
We got an email from OSGO in Stockholm in Sweden.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
And Osgour said, hello, Katie and dear casualties, I am writing to you from Stockholm, Sweden. I wanted to ask you about a sport that was actually founded here in 1886, a sport you've talked about before. And if you saw something I'm actually sure you haven't seen. Did you see the world's biggest indoor orienteering tournament? Indoor orienteering tournament was held here this weekend in the little suburb I've called home for most of my life. Just a few minutes away from my apartment in the old offices of former Telecommunications giant Ericsson, 4,000 people from all over the world ran around inside the 18,000 meter squared office building, which is about 194,000 square feet, which seems to be around three or four American football fields. It was pretty fun watching people running around the corridors from the outside. That sounds insane.
Katie Nolan
What? When he said an indoor orienteering. Because for anybody who doesn't remember, orienteering is like you're. You're somewhere, usually outside, and you don't have a map and you have to draw a map and find your way out of where you are.
Chris
You have a map and you have.
Katie Nolan
To have a map, but you get to where you need to go.
Chris
You have to figure out where the checkpoints are along the way and get to the. Get to the end.
Katie Nolan
It's like basically, it's like, get unlost. Get yourself unlost and find the thing. And so when you said indoor, my first thought was like, what are they at a. Like a Filene's basement and they're me as a child and they need to find their mom. Like, what could you possibly endorse? You know what it is?
Isabella
It's that episode of Seinfeld where they're in the parking garage and can't find the car.
Katie Nolan
That's it. That is it. That is. Indoor orienteering is finding your car in a mall parking lot.
Brady
That is basically indoor orienteering was us at Radio Road trying to find Matthew Barry's fantasy life.
Katie Nolan
Indoor orienteering was me trying to track down Teddy Brewski to give him back his super bowl ring.
Brady
There's DraftKings. There's wings.
Katie Nolan
Where do I get. Where is this? God, it feels. That was only a few days ago. It feels like it was six months ago. Honestly, Radio Row is just indoor oriented. Yeah, that is it. Damn. That's kind of fun. I also. Did we know it was invented in Stockholm or in Sweden? I didn't.
Chris
I don't know if we ever dove in that far.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, we really should.
Chris
There you go. Thank you, Sweden.
Katie Nolan
You never know when somebody emails something. It could be a lie. We don't. There's truly no if. Yeah, me too. Right up until. You know. Right up until. All right, let's talk about the Olympics. Let's talk about all the big stories. I guess they're like little stories, but that we've seen throughout the Olympics. Is everybody. Are you all at least watching them a little bit?
Brady
Watching the shit out of Korean?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Yeah. I love it.
Chris
It's always my favorite.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I still don't.
Isabella
Remind me what time of day it comes on again.
Katie Nolan
So Italy is six hours ahead of us on the east coast. And so that means they usually start, I think, at, I don't know, like 3am our time.
Brady
Sounds about right. They wake up and they're on.
Katie Nolan
Right. And goes until. I can't do this math right now, but it's. It's like a normal day. It probably starts at like 7 in the morning, their time and goes until, I don't know, normal time at night. But it's.
Isabella
So it's on all day?
Katie Nolan
Basically. Yes. But there's like a little break where it's like there is no Olympic events and they're not doing the re. Airs at 8:00 clock Eastern. NBC will do the like. Here are the big events of the day. So if you manage to avoid spoilers, you can see all. You won't miss anything. They'll show you all the big stuff if that's the easiest way to do it. But the best part is that during the day, if you work at a job that happens to have TVs at the office or if you work from home and you just need something in the background, it's like great to have. You can see like a prime time event on your lunch break. I think that's pretty sweet. I don't know why I love daytime sports. One of the big stories that's come out. Have you guys seen this? That the Olympic medals keep breaking?
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
What's up with that?
Katie Nolan
Olympic organizers are investigating with quote unquote, maximum attention, not minimum, after a spate of medals fell off of their ribbons during celebrations on the opening weekend of the Games. I feel like we've had this happen before and it's surprising every time. How do you not have quality control, checking on the medals? It's like a key part of the whole thing. It's what we're here for.
Isabella
Yeah, like that's the thing they cut back on.
Katie Nolan
This was like A couple years ago, when they did, like, a test of the metals, and they found that, like, the gold medal only has some tiny fraction of a percentage more gold in it than, like, the silver metal. That they're all basically just the same alloy, but with a little bit of. Of a gold coating on the gold medal.
Commercial Announcer
I mean, that's fine.
Brady
Do you expect the thing to be solid gold?
Katie Nolan
No, but I wouldn't say the metal.
Commercial Announcer
Would weigh 80 pounds. Sure.
Katie Nolan
Well, if it's gonna break, it might as well be now. They're saying, hey, do us a favor, and when you put the metal on, don't jump. Don't jump.
Chris
Don't breathe, please.
Brady
That's what they want it for.
Katie Nolan
It's like jumping's how I got this thing. I went flying in the air like this. I put my arms down by my side after pretending my penis was bigger than it is so that I would get this extra flap of fabric to take me the extra seven feet. You know, I want to jump up and down in my metal. What do you mean? Put on this celebratory thing, but don't celebrate, or else it might break. Crazy. Crazy unheard of. Get it together, Italy. Fix it. Other news, dude, USA Women's hockey.
Isabella
Just amazing.
Katie Nolan
Dumping on these girls just like, holy cow, they have scored five goals in all of their contests. They, uh. They have allowed one. One goal. Uh, Canada, when we're recording this was Wednesday. Yesterday. Tuesday, they played against Canada. And just absolutely. It looked like a complete mismatch. That's a rivalry game. That should have been a lot closer than it was. Granted, Canada was without Marie Philippe Poulain, who is their superstar. She's incredible. Maybe it would have been 5 to 1 if she had played, but the fact that this team, they're just so good. Layla Edwards. I want to shout out Layla Edwards. That's the. She was the first black woman to make the U.S. olympic hockey team, and now she is the first black woman to score a goal in the Olympics for the US Women's hockey team. So shout out. Layla Edwards. That was sick. Love that. Love to see a little piece of history. And I also want to shout out, because I feel like this could be really relevant to Isabella, the United States women's goalie, Erin Frankel, who clearly is a shutdown. Her nickname is the Green Monster because she, you know, plays for Boston, and that's the name of a big wall that you're aware, right, of the. Yeah, you've been. My bad. My bad.
Isabella
Are you kidding?
Katie Nolan
Sorry. I'm so Sorry. You are an expert. I'm so sorry. She is obviously nasty, but she also runs an Instagram account where all she does is is review Caesar salads. Caesar's salad across all of her travels. And so she has an entire account dedicated to, like, Caesar salads. And if they're good, I think it's called, like, Pain for Romaine or something like that. It's sick. I should pull up some of her best posts. We should have you take a look at her Instagram. Pain by Romaine. Oh. Is her Instagram account. That's my fault.
Isabella
I don't forgive you. Still.
Katie Nolan
I didn't even ask for your forgiveness. You're just being hurtful. Oh. Oh, my God.
Isabella
Wow.
Katie Nolan
Say. I knew you'd like it. Oh. So.
Isabella
Oh, my God. A Caesar salad in a, like, a hot dog roll.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that's crazy. With French fries on it.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
I like the ones that have the, like, cheese that's so grated that it's, like, looks soft, and then the, like, bread crumbs that are, like, smushed up. This is a Caesar salad podcast now. Hate to say pro anchovy. I love that. The. Yeah. I mean, when it's in the dressing. But I don't want to see it. Don't make me look at the fish. It's like, put it in it. Make it taste authentic, but don't, like, don't drape them across the top.
Brady
I like being able to eat the whole creature at once.
Katie Nolan
Ah. Yeah. It is too much like a bug. Anchovies.
Isabella
Aren't they kind of like. They're, like, long and thin, right?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Yeah.
Isabella
So a little bit.
Katie Nolan
So what? What'd you say, Isabella? So what did you say?
Isabella
They're like sardines.
Katie Nolan
Oh, yeah. Yeah. They're like. Like a can. I don't know. I didn't hear it. And I thought you said they're Chinese. And I was like, I don't think. I think that's true. And I want to make sure we don't leave your terrible take in. I don't know. I think this is fantastic. I love that the bio just says, just a passion project. Like, well, I'm gonna eat them. I might as well take pictures of them.
Isabella
I love that.
Katie Nolan
There used to be a bar in New York where you could go in and order. I called a girl lunch, and it was just like, a chicken Caesar salad and, like, a martini or something and a side of French fries, and it was like, ooh, this is exactly what I want. So anyway, shout out to Aaron Frankel for. For that, but also for being an absolutely, disturbingly good goalie. Now, I also will say let's not get ahead of ourselves because there was a year, I don't remember which year it was, that the women's Olympic team was smoking everybody in the earlier rounds. And then they ended up, I believe it was against Canada in the final. And they lost and they got silver. So it is possible that this can all. It doesn't mean it's not a shoe in. They still have to fight, but my God, they look nasty. There were some plays. I retweeted them if you want to find them. They're so sick. It's just been so sick watching the women absolutely dominate. I have no idea when you're gonna listen to this, so I have no idea how to tell you what the next game is. That's the downside of an Olympic schedule.
Isabella
Jesus, you're not psychic.
Katie Nolan
Everything happens so quickly that it's like by the time I tell you about it, listener, it may have happen. So I don't know. Just keep your head on a swivel for USA Women's Hockey because they absolutely rule. Men's hockey's kicking off soon. Pop puck. Dropping off soon. I guess facing off, it's. Yeah, men's hockey's facing off soon. Tomorrow, I think. But to you again, I don't know. Could be today.
Chris
By the way, the women's hockey team is playing Italy on Friday in two days time. On Friday at 3. 10pm Eastern.
Katie Nolan
And that's. And Chris is real good at that, at knowing when things are and how to watch them. And we love.
Chris
Even if it's 30 seconds after you ask, that's okay.
Katie Nolan
Even if it's Thursday. You know, usually this is a Tuesday thing, so that's good. Okay. Figure skating. I did this on the radio. I don't know if we have to rehash the entire thing again, but have you guys been watching the quad? God, Ilya Malinin watched over the weekend.
Chris
Haven't seen anything in the last couple of days.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Brady
Brady throwing a backflip from what I learned in Blades of Glory. That used to be frowned upon and could murder people. And this guy's just throwing blades up in the air and doing backflips. That shouldn't be possible. It's amazing to see.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. It is no longer frowned upon. Not technically something he can get points for other than like the style points. It's not an official element, like the way the jumps are. But it is allowed now. You'll remember it Used to not be allowed. Syria Bonnelly did it in the Olympics as sort of a act of rebellion to say that, like, you already don't like the way I skate because I'm too athletic, quote, unquote. And so I'm gonna do it this way and get my applause for my backflip. And she did, and it disqual. And now they're out here just doing it. He does it. I saw him do it and land on one foot. It was crazy. This is a US Olympian. He is our men's figure skater. That is our best chance of gold. He does. The reason he's called quad God has nothing to do with his legs.
Isabella
I don't know if I said this here, but Dan. I thought it had to do with his legs.
Katie Nolan
Dan was very confused when he came skating out, and he was like, his quads are normal. I was like, no, no, no, no, no. It's not like quadzilla. This guy does four rotations in the air on jumps that, like, nobody ever thought that would be physically possible. And he does it. So it's. He defies the odds of what is possible. And that is incredible. Pause. Now, that being said, his skating style is not, for me. I don't think he's very. The best way I can describe it is it looks like if you took him off of the ice and put him in a room and turned on music, he can't dance. And for me, that's kind of a huge part of the figure skating. I'm no judge. As much as I keep applying, they will not let me join the judges at the Olympics, so it doesn't really matter what I think. But in terms of watching the figure skating, Yuma Kageyama, who is the Japanese figure skater, I much prefer the way that he skates. It's less technically impressive, I guess. He's not doing the amount of quad jumps that Ilya is doing. And again, those are very impressive. Like, death defying, science defying. Amazing. But Ilya gets so much of his points from that. And then the rest of his routines are just kind of. I don't know, not as visually interesting. He's not graceful, which is, like, the whole thing. And anyway, he, like. I don't know, he sticks his tongue out when he hits a landing of a jump, and I'm like, put that away. It's the Olympics. What are you. He's like. It's like, I don't know. It's cool. But he also. I saw him dance to or skate to a song of him reading inspirational quotes. And I just like, do you want to share one? Yeah, I think I should probably look him up. This man's absolutely absurd.
Brady
Let's get into one song and one song only.
Katie Nolan
He exactly is that movie. I feel like. And I can't tell. He's probably not seen it. He's 21. It was before his time. Inspirational quotes. For the 2025, 2026 figure skating season, world champion Ilya Malinin created a deeply personal free program titled A Voice, which features voiceovers of his own words integrated into his music. Here are the key insp lines from his program. The only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing. Yup.
Brady
That's from Bill and Ted's excellent adventure.
Katie Nolan
The lost is in the unknown. Embrace the storm. You are something, but not nothing.
Isabella
Exactly. I've been trying to tell people that.
Katie Nolan
Past is not a chain, but a thread. Pull it and it may lead you home.
Isabella
That's my favorite one.
Katie Nolan
What does that mean? That's my favorite one. What are you talking about? Begin where light no longer reaches, where no path has yet been made.
Isabella
And is there this many pauses in between each quote?
Katie Nolan
It's like music. Yeah. And then there reaches a point where you think it's just, okay, he's done doing the quotes portion has ended, and now it's just music. And then he starts again. Like Dan and I. I was trying. The reason this stood out to me is because I was trying to say, like, Dan, this guy's awesome. I'm hearing everybody talk about this guy, the quad God, we gotta root for him. We're like a big Olympics household. And so he comes out and we're watching the skating and the quotes start happening. And I googled like, what is this? And found out it was him. And Dan was like, this is a tough sell. I'm gonna be honest, it's a bit of a tough sell. And by the time the second phase of quotes started, he was like, I gotta. I have to go. I'm working on. So I can't finish this. And it's just. I don't know. So that's my most anti American take. Now I will say I'm rooting for him. I want him to win. He deserves gold. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I present a united front when it comes to international sports competition. No matter how I feel about the athlete internally or the athlete, you know, you just support the American athletes. It's what you do. I just wanted to say if anybody out there watches him and goes, okay, so we're supposed to like, really love this guy and you don't feel that way. It's okay. We don't all. We all. There. There's notes. Okay, I've got notes.
Brady
As a former Rhythmic Olympian with some other words. Your notes are valid.
Katie Nolan
Not close, but I appreciate it.
Brady
Your notes are valid.
Katie Nolan
Junior Olympian, I think is definitely important. Okay, what else? Let's talk about this Norwegian guy. If you haven't seen this by now, we're living under a rock. This. I saw this on Reddit as I was about to do the radio show yesterday, and I said, that can't be a real story, so we won't be going with that. And then after the show, I saw everybody pick it up because it is absurd. So Sturla Holm Lagrad is the name of the Norwegian athlete. He participates in biathlon, which is shooting and skiing. It's biathlon. It's two sports. Shooting and skiing. Cross country skiing. Yes, yes, yes. So you, like, ski up, you gotta shoot things and then you ski off.
Chris
If I think it was downhill skiing.
Katie Nolan
That'D be pretty sick.
Chris
And shooting, that'd be crazy.
Katie Nolan
While shooting.
Isabella
Oh, it's not downhill.
Katie Nolan
No, it's cross country, so it's the one that looks like walking. Oh, okay. You know. Okay. So he won the bronze medal for his event, and afterwards was doing an interview on a live broadcast, and he said in his native tongue, basically that six months ago, I'll just quote what the translation is here. Six months ago, I met the love of my life, the world's most beautiful, sweetest person, and three months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life and cheated on her. He basically laid out for viewers. He said, I don't even know if she's watching, but I would like to talk to somebody. The last week or so has been the hardest of my. The worst of my life, I think he said, which is crazy. You just won a bronze medal at the Olympics. So if this is the worst week of your life, you're doing pretty good. And he admits that he met this woman six months ago. They started dating three months ago, he cheated on her. And then like a week before he left for the Olympics, he told her and she broke up with him. And now he's at the Olympics and she's not there with him. And she's not, you know, he said, she's the most beautiful woman he's ever met. That's the love of his life.
Isabella
Shut up.
Katie Nolan
I know the whole thing is a mess, but it is a mess of red flags. I want to say we do not know who the woman is. And thank God she has given her statement to a Norwegian publication. And she basically was like, I didn't ask for any of this. It was essentially her statement. She was like, I did not want this public attention. I didn't ask for this. I have spoken to him. He knows how I feel about this. He confirmed in a press conference afterwards that basically he's hoping saying this on a broadcast will get her back. Like, openly admitted. Chris, you don't seem to think this is as funny as everybody else does. Do you hate this?
Chris
I do. I'm enjoying listening to you tell it.
Katie Nolan
It's absurd. It is. I can't. I hate to throw around an overused word, okay? But the amount of narcissist red flags in this entire event are very high now. I don't know the man and I don't speak Norwegian. I don't even think I've ever really ever heard anyone speak Norwegian. Cause when I heard the original clip, I was like, that's an unfamiliar sounding language to me. But he to say, look, and Isabella and I talked about this on the radio show today. There is a way that you could do something like this without being so specific in telling the world your business, where you could say like, what an honor to have won this. I've worked really hard for this. I've made a lot of mistakes recently and hurt people that I love, that are closest to me. And so in this greatest moment for me, I am still feeling sadness mostly that I can't celebrate with the ones that I love. But I hope they know I'm thinking of them and love them, whatever, anything that's vague. Instead of going, so six months ago, right, I met this super hot lady, prettiest lady I've ever met, Love of my life. So nice. Love of my life. Three months into that, I cheated on her. I then sat on that information for three months right before I left for the Olympics, by the way. The Winter Olympics in Norway. That's Norway's Super Bowl. Norway loves the Winter Olympics. This isn't like here where it's fighting for airtime with like the Super Bowl. This is their shit. This is extremely Norway's shit. So this guy from a country with a population smaller than that of New York City, went over there and on the biggest platform said, yeah. And so we were dating. I cheated on her. Didn't tell her till right before I left for this thing. Now she won't talk to me, so call me back. I love you. It is crazy to go Yeah, I know I gotta try. He said I had to try everything I could. I didn't want to leave any opportunity to get her back on tv.
Isabella
Bro, if you had to rely on going on public like television to do.
Katie Nolan
This, you better win gold.
Isabella
Maybe there isn't a chance anymore.
Katie Nolan
You better have won gold if you want to get me back after doing what you did and telling the world my business. Maybe I told my friends, like, yeah, we just broke up. It was only six months. People weren't going to have that many follow up questions if you just say, yeah, I tried. He's like in Olympics mode and is not ready to be dating me. We broke up. Now the whole world is like, he cheated on you also, why are you telling this woman, the love of your life, that you cheated on her right before you leave for the Olympics to.
Brady
The Olympic village, which is notably the horniest place on earth.
Katie Nolan
They were breaking the beds. They were having so much sex on them a couple years ago, like, what do you mean? Why would you disclose that info? You held onto it for three months, hold on to it for another two weeks.
Isabella
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, so I cheated on you by.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God. It's just an absurd turn of events. I really. I just want to say to whoever this woman is, you're a queen and an icon. Believe in yourself, protect your heart. You do not have to stay with a man like that after six months, goodbye to him. 28 years old. I looked it up just in case. Sometimes these Olympians, you're like, Damn, he's only 19 and he won. So I looked it up just in case. 28 years old. Grow up, dude. This is absolutely the love of my. The love of my life. Last a year with her, okay. Without sleeping with another person. Christ almighty. Absolutely absurd. While we're talking about love, Jutta Leerdam, who is a speed skater from the Netherlands who is also engaged to Jake Paul. I'm sorry about that part. She won. She won. She set, I believe, an Olympic record. I was watching this race, had no idea. I guess forgot. You know me, once it's in here, it's right out, you know, Once it's in the brain, it escapes. And I guess I knew he was engaged to a speed skater, but I forgot that information until they showed him in the crowd. I'm like, why are we looking at Jake Paul for this? And then I realized, like, damn, Jake Paul's got it like that. I guess she's very pretty. She's very pretty. She's very talented. And she smoked Them. Oh, my God. It's incredible how like. Isabella, you ever watched any speed skating?
Isabella
No. Is it like rollerblading, but. But movement. Like how when you're rollerblading, you're kind of like swaying and I mean, I.
Brady
Guess I'm gonna jump ahead a bullet point and say this all ties together. Like, this is the first Olympics where I've ever really gotten a gauge of how effing think fast everyone is going, doing everything because of the drones. So, like, because of the drones. And with speed skating is another one, like, the camera work. Never in the past, I feel like really lets you understand how fast they're whipping around doing a thousand meters of skating on ice.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
Like, this is the most impressed I've ever been by Olympics. Like, the speed skating is insane. The skiing is insane.
Isabella
Snowboarding, God, I feel like I've seen some of this. And they're like, slanted. It's crazy. How are they doing that?
Katie Nolan
You should have seen Isabella seeing luge for the first time today. For the first time, Isabella, she saw two. She saw men's doubles luge. Okay. Her first thought was, are they. Do they just lay there? And the answer was yes. Then she was like, did they go up on the sides? So, like, the way that the walls are. And they go up on the. And I was like, yes. Then when they sat up, she goes, there's two of them. I was like, I would hate to be on the bottom. I was like, how do you think they. They have those conversations of like, am I the top or am I the bottom? I also told her this is the first year they're doing women's doubles. This was the first year we did girl on girl. We were not doing that until this Olympics. So congratulations. That is a big step forward. I also will say, while we're having this discussion, skipping ahead, a few bullet points. Nordic combined, which is Brady, correct me if I'm wrong, it's ski jumping mixed with cross country skiing, I believe.
Brady
Oh, I can't confidently answer that one.
Katie Nolan
I think it's a cross country race and a big, you know, Isabelle, you know, ski jump, which is that big, like. And then they, like, lean forward and they. That was the penis situation was to. For ski jumping. But Nordic combined has always been men's only as a sport in the Olympics. And this year, I guess I saw a video yesterday of a woman who competes in Nordic combined say that they are going to use the viewership numbers for the men's competition as a gauge for whether there's enough interest to Introduce the women's competition. So even if you think it's the most boring thing on earth, if you see Nordic Combined on your tv, please leave it on. Because I think if that's what they're going based off of, it's doesn't make a lot of logical sense to me. But if they're saying that's the bar, then we got to meet it so that women can get out there and do Nordic Combined. There is one sport that is women only with no men in the Winter Olympics, and that's monobob. It doesn't get enough play. It's a newer sport, it's bobsledding, but only one person in the bobsled. Not like the video we watched earlier in the week. On Tuesday's episode of there's supposed to be four people getting in the bobsled in three hours.
Chris
Accidental 1 I bought.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, this is literally just one person inside of a sled or a sleigh, I think they call it.
Isabella
Oh, I don't like that.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's interesting. It's minion esque of like a little monobob, you know. But anyway, did you also see the, the Norwegian cross country skier? Is it claybo? Who was. Okay, so on cross. In cross country, Isabella. It's flat. You're. You're basically just doing like this, right? But at times you've got to go uphill and there's ways they can do that. I actually watched a really complicated video on how they do this partially. It's that they put a wax on the ski and you use that specific part of the ski to get you up the hill. This guy uses some combination of incredible equipment management of like where they put the wax and stuff, and incredible talent. And he went viral because going up, up a hill in skis, he was going at the pace of a six minute mile. What an absurd pace. I saw a video on my, on my timeline that I was like, that is physically impossible to me to go up a hill in skis that fast. Even like his competition was like dropping back as he was like, I've never seen anything like that in my life. That's crazy.
Commercial Announcer
I gotta watch that quad.
Brady
God, right there.
Katie Nolan
I know. That's what the Olympics are all about, is going like, what we can do that. I had no idea.
Isabella
All right, sign me up.
Katie Nolan
I know. While we're talking about the drones, though, is the sound bothering you of the drones?
Chris
It does sound strange.
Katie Nolan
I cannot take it. I wish there was some way, you know, sometimes when you're on like A zoom call in these new Apple whatever. They can, like, mute out certain sounds. I wish they could.
Chris
Certain frequencies.
Katie Nolan
Whatever that tech is, I wish they could use it on the broadcast. Because, like Brady was saying, I do love the view that the drones are giving me. I love the. It's like a sense of scale that it gives things where you're like, whoa, I'm moving with them. And it wouldn't be practical to do that in any other way, but that noise is, like, in every clip.
Brady
Holy shit, am I deaf?
Katie Nolan
You don't.
Brady
I have never heard this. I've been watching.
Katie Nolan
You haven't?
Chris
Uh.
Isabella
Oh, Brady, I think it's time to get a check.
Brady
20 years in radio, I have. Oh, my God.
Katie Nolan
Terrifying. That terrifies me.
Isabella
I gotta watch it. I haven't heard it.
Katie Nolan
It's so loud and. But I do like that for, like, the ice, like, luge events, the drone has its own starting spot. So you'll have, like, the luge go, like, ding, ding, ding. And then they go. And then you see the drone will go, like, like, out of its own little starting block and, like, meet in the middle. I don't know. I think it's pretty cool. I also.
Chris
It'd be fun to operate one of those things during the Olympics too.
Katie Nolan
I wonder if it would be stressful, probably where you're like, don't get too close, don't distract.
Brady
Don't hit him.
Katie Nolan
And also, if you crash into a wall, I want to see it. I would like you to take the highlights of that and have Snoop do it during prime time with Jericho Tirico, who, by the way, shout out. Mike Tirico flew all the way to Italy after the super bowl and was able. Is able to do two of the biggest, most marquee events for his network at the exact same time is really impressive and incredible.
Chris
One of the best.
Katie Nolan
So good. I've also really been enjoying Lindsey Zarniak during the day, and obviously Rebecca Lowe, who we love on this podcast. She does some of the daytime stuff for them, too. And then lastly, because I like talking about when the athletes are relatable. Did you see the German ski jumper who won gold? His name is Philipp Raymond. He was a German ski jumper who had never won an individual World cup title. He had never competed at the Olympics, and in March, he pulled out of a competition because of his fear of heights.
Isabella
I would, too.
Katie Nolan
And he entered Monday's normal hill event ranked sixth in the World cup standings, and he won gold.
Isabella
Oh, I love that.
Katie Nolan
It was incredible. Hearing because when you look at those ski jumps, even if you're not afraid of heights. I remember my brother used to always play in a hockey tournament in Lake Placid called Can Am. And so we would go to Lake Placid and you would see the, you know, old Olympic ski jumps that they had set up there. And I remember just being like, this is terrifying how high up it's like when you see the diving boards that Olympic, like, platform divers jump off of, you're like. To think that somebody with a fear of heights could get up there, go off of that thing, sail through the air and win an Olympic gold medal is like, damn. Oh, wow.
Isabella
They're, like, flat.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
Like, this feels like when Simone Biles had to withdraw from the Olympics and, like, she got shit from the wrong people for it. But, like, when you're performing at that high level and you get that much air and you're just doing that crazy of a thing with your body, if you're 1% off, like, in your equilibrium or your brain's not registering anything. 1%. Like, yeah, like, I. I completely get. Like, you have to step out. Like, if my fear of heights is causing 1% of doubt in my mind, like, those guys are hundreds of feet in the air. Like, that's everything has to be registering, right? Or you just die doing it.
Katie Nolan
Which is. It's what he said. He said that he felt like sometimes in certain situations when it would overwhelm him, he would feel out of control of his own body as it was flying through the air. Which, you're right, sounds a lot like Simone Biles when she was talking about the twisties. And she said that she would enter into these incredibly difficult things that no one else can do, and she would be getting lost in the air, which immediately makes you think of, like, a broken neck. It's just like, the. The amount of things that could happen to your body between when you jump up to start your twist and when you land. There's so many different ways you could really injure yourself. And so her having the strength to go like, I gotta. I can't do this, even on a huge stage was really, I thought, remarkable and commendable. And to see it in. I don't know, it's just, like, such a great story. When he landed that jump, granted, German fans will go nuts no matter if you had a good run or not. They're just, like, really, really intense at the Olympics. But when he landed that jump, you should go find that video, because everybody was like, wow, the whole place went absolutely crazy. He screamed. He landed and screamed. It must have been such a release to have like, like, you know, being brave is not the absence of fear. It's, it's continuing and doing it in the face of fear. And he did and he won a gold medal, which I think is one of the coolest possible things. So lot of cool stories coming out of the Olympics. Katie Nolan
Hi. Noah Khan.
Commercial Announcer
Hello.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. I'm good. Thank you for being here. Thanks. Well, you have to be here. This is your show. But thank you for letting me be here.
Commercial Announcer
Of course. Well, it's your show, too, technically, so we both have to be here.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, exactly. The new single is out, the Great Divide. It's been out for, as of recording this, about a little over a week. Right. How are you feeling?
Commercial Announcer
I feel great. It's been really. It's my first show back with, like, new music in a long time, and so I'm always kind of on stage trying to figure out how to, like, keep people engaged with material they may have heard before. It's been around for a while, so it's just exciting to have, you know, songs I can play that even though we played this one live, a lot that are new, like, to the world and to a lot of people that'll be here tonight and mostly just excited to have. Have a new project on the way and to be finally done with the writing process and onto the, like, the fun part for me, which is touring and showing the world the music. Music, and just been so blown away by the reaction and grateful for everybody's, you know, the videos they made, reacting to the song or just sending me that. They've listened to the song, and it's been really cool. So I'm pumped.
Katie Nolan
I've spent the week sort of, like, immersed in your fan base to sort of try to understand them and their connection with you, which is so strong.
Commercial Announcer
Aren't they cool?
Katie Nolan
Very cool. Really nice.
Commercial Announcer
So cool.
Katie Nolan
So much community between them.
Commercial Announcer
I know. I wish I was, like, as cool as they are sometimes. I'm like, damn, you guys are awesome.
Katie Nolan
They at least think that you are so that you got that going.
Commercial Announcer
I know. I know. I think they actually think I'm uncool. Like, I accidentally leaked when we were gonna announce the album, and everyone thought I was doing, like, an Easter egg. And some fan was like, no, no. It's just dumb like this. If you've been following for a long time, like, he will do something dumb every album cycle. And me saying, like, see you on the 28th. My label was like, no, you're supposed to wait to tell them that. But they're really cool, and they're really like. They live for the music and the stories. And having, like, fans that are pay attention to all the details is really cool. So I can feel like I can write specifically and narratively and know that the fans are, like, gonna be picking up on what I'm saying. And it's been really cool to see that happening for this song in particular.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Do you ever. Does that ever feel stressful to you? I've always wondered this. With musicians with, like, Easter eggs, do you feel like you have to give some and put things in for your fans?
Commercial Announcer
No, no, no. I've always loved to do that. Like, I love reading. I love, like, literary style songwriting. And I think, like, characters can exist throughout different songs. And in my music, they always kind of have. And my mom, actually, a lot of times is the first person to pick up on, like, the. Through lines between different songs. And sometimes I'll write it and I'll be like, oh, yeah, that is in there. But for this record particular, there's definitely tons of characters that I feel like have spanned across the stick season universe and this album. They kind of carry on their stories, and it's just something that I love to do. It's really fun. I think if you're limited to your, like, specific life experience, for every single thing, you make, you kind of run out of things to say or you start talking about boring shit. Like, no one wants to hear about me being in a green room.
Katie Nolan
I'm in a bus, in another bus.
Commercial Announcer
And now I'm in a car.
Katie Nolan
The bus again. On the road.
Commercial Announcer
Granola.
Chris
I hate.
Commercial Announcer
It sucks. Who likes this shit? Yeah. So it's fun to be able to kind of, like, step outside of myself and, like, create, like, a universe. It just feels like. It feels like. Like writing to me, like a book almost. And I really try to do that in this record.
Katie Nolan
It comes through like, the. The song is so. It's, like, deep. It's nuanced. There's angles to it. Again, being around in your fan base, online, watching them kind of explain to me, like, oh, he's referencing this. He's talking about this. It's like. It's very deep, it's very nuanced, and it's very catchy.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. I think, like, if you're gonna make music that tries to say. I guess I'm not trying to say anything, but, like, that speaks to kind of some hard earth feelings. You don't want to make it all sad, and you don't want to make it, like, too hard to latch onto. Because I think when you hear a song that's really depressing and sad, it's like, I'll listen to that once when I get broken up with, or if it's, like, really rainy out. But I want my. I like, want people to come Back to my music. And I think making sure there's hooks and making sure that there's, like, things you can grab onto and melodies that don't feel like, so downtrodden, set up against the kind of the content of the lyrics to let people kind of listen to it again and again.
Katie Nolan
Hopefully, whatever that guitar riff is at the beginning is, like, stuck in my brain.
Commercial Announcer
I know. Sometimes I fall asleep and I'm like, just. I feel like I'm in Guantanamo Bay.
Katie Nolan
It's fantastic. I love it. I can't stop listening to it. The album the Great divide, comes out April 24th. It's your fourth studio album. How do you feel now that it's. It's done, I assume. Yeah, once it's done. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's done. Well, definitely called the same thing as the song and the same thing as the tour. So it's possible you just have the one song.
Commercial Announcer
Can you imagine if I release this is coming. If I release a song and I'm like, oh, now I gotta make it. I'm, like, rushing to finish it.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, you need a deadline or else you can't get it done.
Commercial Announcer
Oh, that just gave me shivers. No. Yeah, the album is done. It's a lot of music. I've been working on it for four years, and a lot of songs I've had kind of dancing around when I was on tour, on the Stick Season tour. But most of it was written in the past, like, two years of taking time away from the music business and touring and everything, just to kind of get back to being creative and being human and trying to write about that experience. So it's been a really fulfilling process in that I didn't feel like I was rushed. I had a lot of people that allowed me a lot of space and time to make this album, which is not a typical story for musicians right now. So very privileged for the time I had to make it. And that time allowed me to kind of really make the best work I could, and I'm very proud of it.
Katie Nolan
You mentioned Stick Season, obviously, the song that sort of propelled you into this superstardom. If I may, does that feel safe?
Commercial Announcer
You may, but I won't.
Katie Nolan
You can't. I will. I think so much of your music is rooted in this authenticity. It's like you being truly yourself. And I've heard you say in interviews before that you're worried sometimes that you were just performing authenticity in a way that wasn't actually true to who you were. You were worried, like, I might not have met myself all that sort of stuff echoed in it. I wonder if. Because I can't imagine it's easier to be authentic the more famous you get. And so how have you, what are you doing to like, help yourself stay true to you at a time when the world is, you know, look at you and want so much from you.
Commercial Announcer
It is hard. I think you have to, like, I've been saying this a lot, like you have to go kind of Hannah Montana. You have to like split and you have to like have your life on stage and your life in like doing promo or doing photo shoots and these things that are kind of like very self focused and very brand kind of focused, which doesn't come very naturally to me, but I like to let that go and go home and like shut that away and kind of just live my life as who I've been my entire life or, you know, the best version of myself I can be without the idea of me being a musician or someone that has like any kind of public Persona. And I also don't like to look too closely at what works about my music, what works about my, my personality in terms of like promo and stuff like that. Because then I start like analyzing what makes me authentic. And then, you know, like you said, you're lost and you're kind of inherently being inauthentic in that situation. So. I've been surrounded by lovely people. My team, my band, my family, my wife, my friends are all just really grounded people. And I think being around grounded people makes you access that part of yourself. So I make sure to spend a lot of time with people who, who bring me down to earth, but also are living really real, authentic lives. And. And that's been something I've had to do very intentionally.
Katie Nolan
And.
Commercial Announcer
And I hope that I haven't changed too much and haven't become like too fake. But it is hard. It's a struggle. It's a balancing act.
Katie Nolan
And you're allowed to have like a few fake parts, you know? Yeah, yeah, you gotta allow yourself to Hannah Montana just a little bit.
Commercial Announcer
Like, I do like, so there's some fun. I do like having like a cool shirt that. This is not my coolest shirt. But like, I'm like, I can get a cool shirt now.
Katie Nolan
This isn't a cool shirt shirt.
Commercial Announcer
No, this is one of my less cool shirts. I had a cooler one on earlier, but I have an armpit infection and so I haven't been able to wear deodorant. What, for like a week.
Katie Nolan
What?
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. And so I had to wear this shirt, because the other one smelled like infected armpit lymph nodes.
Katie Nolan
Wait. Scary. Is that.
Commercial Announcer
I don't know what's going on. No. No solution at all. Could be really bad.
Katie Nolan
That's awesome.
Commercial Announcer
There's no indication of whether it's gonna get better or not at this moment.
Katie Nolan
Fantastic.
Commercial Announcer
And I think it is contagious to anyone within one foot.
Katie Nolan
Well, luckily, I didn't give you my usual handshake.
Commercial Announcer
I know. I almost did the armpit handshake. Then I remember the infection.
Katie Nolan
Oh, can't do that. That. Is it. Like, it's.
Commercial Announcer
Oh, yeah.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God.
Isabella
What?
Commercial Announcer
Red, squeaky.
Katie Nolan
Have you gone to a doctor?
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. And he was like. I don't know.
Katie Nolan
He went.
Commercial Announcer
He's like, I don't. This is above my pay grade.
Katie Nolan
Don't bring that thing to me.
Commercial Announcer
They're, like, shipping me to, like, an underground bunker in, like, D.C. soon to figure out what's going on.
Katie Nolan
Fantastic.
Commercial Announcer
Okay.
Katie Nolan
I hope you get that figured out.
Commercial Announcer
God, me too. Oh, my God, it hurts so bad.
Katie Nolan
Is it itchy?
Commercial Announcer
It itches.
Katie Nolan
It itches and it itches and it hurts.
Commercial Announcer
And when I lift my arms up, it hurts. So it's hard for me to play the guitar. Yeah. So any show I go to, they're like, put your hands in the air. It's like, I feel so left out because I can't because of the armpit infection.
Katie Nolan
And you stink. You like.
Commercial Announcer
And I smell like you reek, which doesn't help. No, this doesn't help. And you can't smell through the cameras, but I'm suffering. But she's right here, watching and smelling.
Katie Nolan
Let's talk about the tour as well. Like I said, the Great Divide Tour kicks off June 11, 23 stops across North America through August. A lot of stadiums. Like, mostly stadiums. As a sports fan, that stood out to me. I know you're a sports fan as well.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Is that an intentional choice because you want to see these venues, or is it, like, that's how music works, Katie. We just. That's the size of the venue, and that's how we want to do it.
Commercial Announcer
It's definitely a really cool side effect of this amazing place that we've gotten to where fans are excited to come see me, and there's a lot more of them, and. And we felt like this size venue is gonna work for us, which is really cool. And the response to the. You know, the tour going up has been really great, and we'll see if it works. I always thought it'd be funny if I put this, like, big stadium tour on sale, and there was, like, 19 people that signed up, and they were just, like, in the top section, like, hi. But it's an amazing side effect of, like, playing stadiums that you get to hang out in famous ballparks. And I've done arenas before, which are kind of dark and, like, a little bit sad. And so stadiums are beautiful. You're out in the light, and you have, like. Like, you know, all the history of the teams that have played there, and you can go out and, like, kind of be outside and be in this. In, you know, the part of the city where the stadium is. And as a sports fan, it's always really cool getting to see the behind the scenes of, like, the teams we love. So it's really.
Katie Nolan
I know you're going back to Fenway, and you've done Fenway before. Anything cool there, as a Red Sox fan that they let you do because you were playing at the.
Commercial Announcer
Oh, yeah. It's so cool they let you go into the Green Monster. We're all, like, you know, everyone that's played a show there. A lot of people that have been there, but also a lot of the old players have signed, you know, their names, like, inside of the Green Monster, which is really cool. As a Boston, like, sports and Red Sox fan, it's a. It is incredible also just getting to walk around in the grass. If you, like, go to Fenway Park. Like, I think we're all like, man, I wish I could just, like, jump on there for one second. And I love the movie Fever Pitch and the scene where is it Drew Barrymore jumps into the. The field? Like, that's all I've ever wanted to do. So I gotta, like, recreate that scene from Fever Pitch and just get to kind of live out the childhood Red Sox fan dreams that I.
Katie Nolan
That's sick. You were how old when they won a World Series?
Commercial Announcer
I was seven. Seven. Yeah. I remember. I think I remember the one in 2013 more, but crazy to me. It was incredible. And I remember, like, how excited everybody was, and my family, especially, and my cousins and the people, the folks I have that live in Massachusetts were losing their minds.
Katie Nolan
Do you ever feel like maybe you didn't get to live enough of the miserable Red Sox fan experience? Or do you think maybe you're making up for that now as they, you know, know?
Commercial Announcer
I think about that a lot.
Katie Nolan
Players.
Commercial Announcer
I think about that a lot. Like, did I miss out on, like, the misery? I'm a huge soccer fan, and, like, I'm a Chelsea fan, so.
Katie Nolan
Oh, so you got it?
Commercial Announcer
Yeah, well, I've gotten misery, but like also they've won a lot too. So I kind of feel like I'm just jumping on these teams. But you know, there are all sorts of like terrible sports teams that you can. That I've like watched and seen and it makes it so much better when you finally win. And I guess I'm getting to see like my family and my friends who have been watching for a lot longer than I have, like, get to be excited was where like my childhood excitement came from that. But yeah, I do feel like I missed out on some misery with the Red Sox for sure.
Katie Nolan
Let's talk about Chelsea. Why Chelsea?
Commercial Announcer
So my neighbors in Stratford lived in England part of the year and they lived next to. This is a funny story, I don't know if you want me telling this, but they lived next to Frank Lampard in Richmond. And Frank Lampard's obviously like a greatest ever player. And so they would come back to Stratford and talk about Chelsea all the time. And being in Vermont, you're two and a half hours away from Boston. So like a lot of these big Boston sports teams, I'm not going to go see a lot of their games. And so as much as I love the Sox and I love the Bruins and the C's, like, I didn't have this like ability to go watch my favorite team all the time. And so I got super into Chelsea. I was a big into soccer as a kid, loved them so much. And last year I got to do like this gala thing with Frank Lampard who introduced me for this award that I won. And I remember telling him, hey man, the reason I like Chelsea is because we used to live next to my neighbors in Richmond. He's like, I never lived in Richmond. They would see you come out of the house. He's like, oh, that was a girl I was dating at the time. I was like, oh dude, don't ruin it for me. So thank you to whoever Frank Lampard was dating at the time for getting me into Chelsea. I appreciate it.
Katie Nolan
What a full circle moment.
Commercial Announcer
It really was.
Katie Nolan
Do you play FIFA? I feel like all musicians play FIFA.
Commercial Announcer
I do play FIFA.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, a lot of it.
Commercial Announcer
A lot of it. And I spend money on the packs and I do.
Katie Nolan
And I play all like career mode and all that.
Commercial Announcer
I do ultimate team. And I get beat by like 11 year old kids in like South America who send me mean messages and shit. And it's me and kids fighting on the DMS and like I Get into it. I throw control. I get so mad.
Katie Nolan
Do you like, wear a headset and talk to people?
Commercial Announcer
No, you can't do that anymore. They used to be able to. And that would drive me fucking crazy.
Katie Nolan
Because I hate it.
Commercial Announcer
People would be like talking trash to you and you're losing to them, but now it's just you lose and then you send them a message. I don't. I never send a message first. I only treat others how they treat me. The golden rule. And so if they send me me message, I'll go back and forth for a while with the person.
Katie Nolan
Do you ever. You wouldn't ever just stunt on them and be like, by the way, I'm Noah Khan. So actually.
Commercial Announcer
Oh, no, no, no, no. Never.
Katie Nolan
But you could.
Commercial Announcer
But I could. But then they'd be like, oh, you're the guy that was like hitting the gritty on me after scoring. I'm gonna cancel you. So.
Katie Nolan
I want to focus on some sports stuff for a sec, if that's okay.
Commercial Announcer
Of course.
Katie Nolan
You played in the NBA celebrity All Star game.
Commercial Announcer
I did. That was amazing.
Katie Nolan
How was that? Like a fun. I know. Like you played soccer and you probably didn't play basketball.
Commercial Announcer
I didn't play basketball growing up. As you could see. If you watch the game.
Katie Nolan
No, you, you're shot.
Commercial Announcer
Listen, I had an nice. They went loader gang.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
But I was unbelievable in the practice round the night before. Like, I had like a literally like a like Mike moment where I like just started being really good at basketball. And like everyone was like, oh my God. And like it was like the childhood dream of like flexing on everyone and like in front of all the scouts and stuff. But the coach from, from that night wasn't the coach the next day. It was Barry Bonds the next day. And he hadn't seen me and so he saw me in the warm up line and he was like, oh, hell no, you're not going in.
Brady
You saw.
Commercial Announcer
And so I only got like two or three minutes. So I know they didn't ask me to be into this year or it didn't work out, but I would love a chance to go back and prove that I can hit one more shot and maybe get a couple more rebounds.
Katie Nolan
As somebody who coached that game, there's a lot going on. There's a lot going on. And I'm sure he didn't mean it personally.
Commercial Announcer
Oh, no, no. He made the right decision for the team. I would have. We had like. The thing is they have like really good basketball players do it now. I thought I'd be playing against like Jojo Siwa and Carrot Top and everything. And it was like dudes that played like in Mexico or played overseas. But this isn't fair at all. Like I thought we were playing like people that were like celebrities but also liked basketball. Not like basketball players that like have a tick tock.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's not really fair that way. Yeah, like Dancing with the Stars, letting like gymnasts do it.
Commercial Announcer
It's exactly like that. Yeah, exactly like that. But it was really, really cool and the experience was amazing. And it's just crazy to see like up close how big some of the guys you're playing against are and like how little of a chance as a regular person you have against them. It was crazy.
Katie Nolan
That's fun. You mentioned socks. You said bruins, you said Cs. There's a sport missing and a team missing. And now I don't. I know sometimes when people live up in New England, they don't necessarily root for the New England team. I know there's a lot of Bills fans up there. Do you have an NFL team that you root for?
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. So I, I grew up watching the Steelers because my mom grew up in Pittsburgh and my dad and my grandparents were huge Pittsburgh Steelers fans. Some of my earliest memories were of watching like the Hines Ward Palomalu Steelers with my grandpa and he like got super mad if they lost and so pumped that they won. And so that was kind of just like my introduction to the NFL. And so growing up in New England, obviously Patriots are such a huge part of the culture and I'm excited for the Patriots to be there, especially cause the Steelers aren't playing. But I was never like a die hard Patriots fan, but it was, I mean, we won so much.
Katie Nolan
I was gonna say it's unfortunate you kind of missed out.
Commercial Announcer
I know they were winning so much and I loved it. Like if they were playing, I'd root for them as long as they weren't playing for the Steelers. But yeah, it's the one Boston or New England team that I wasn't like massively on.
Katie Nolan
Which is funny because New England, it's like the one that has New England in the name.
Commercial Announcer
I know. And again, it was hard to like, I went to one game of my dad at Foxborough, but it's like, it was like three hours, two and a half hours to get there. So I never really felt like I had that connection to like being at the games.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I get that. It's like a long drive. I mean, it's a long drive Even if you live close. It's horrific, that stadium.
Commercial Announcer
It's so bad.
Katie Nolan
And now it's a nightmare. I also hear you're very into golf.
Commercial Announcer
I am. I love to play golf. Yeah?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. You like to play golf? You're good. Are you good at it?
Commercial Announcer
No, no, no. I like, I. It's actually like they should do like a study because I play more than anybody I know. Like, I ran into Justin Thomas one time in Nashville. Like he had seen me like five times. Like you play more than I do. And, and I'm not kidding, I'm getting worse. I have not improved. It's crazy. Like some people just aren't good at things and I'm just not good.
Katie Nolan
And that doesn't in any way hamper your enjoyment and love of it? It.
Commercial Announcer
No, it goes way beyond even the sport for me. It's like this weird like mental, like prove myself, like maybe addiction, borderline thing going on where like I need to get better at it and like I can't stop trying. And every time I miss a shot, like, or I hit like a shank or whatever, I do like it just. I like book myself more rounds to get rid of that feeling.
Katie Nolan
That's, that's the kind of drive that gets you here though. That's why you are where you are. Because you've got to constantly fine tune your game.
Commercial Announcer
I want to make it on the Korn ferry tour by 28.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that's it.
Commercial Announcer
And I know like I'm giving myself a couple years, it's unrealistic. Next year, no shot. No, I'm not playing well enough. But if I keep going, I eventually will be good enough to play professional golf. And that's, that's my journey. I want to be the first 17 handicap that big gets on the Corn Ferry Tour within three years.
Katie Nolan
I believe in you.
Commercial Announcer
Thank you. You wouldn't if you saw my swing. It's like you need like one of those glambot cameras to see it. It's so fast. It looks like Charles Barkley and like Jim Furich and then just like some guy that they found that was like, like had never seen a golf club before, like all got together and created a golf swing. It's terrible.
Katie Nolan
What's the strongest part of your golf game? You good putter?
Commercial Announcer
I'm nice. I'm nice at putting. Cuz putting is the one thing that doesn't require. It's like a lot of feel.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
And so like I've always felt that putting was more just. I almost pre it like that Tiger woods video game where they have the line that goes out from the ball to the hole, and that worked really well for me. I just need to find something like that for, like, every other shot in golf. Yeah, I'm a good putter.
Katie Nolan
Okay, well, that's good. And then lock that in and then work on the rest of the stuff, and then we'll get you going pro.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah, that's all I want.
Katie Nolan
You watch tgl. You're a big TGL guy, I heard.
Commercial Announcer
I am. I'm an investor in Boston Common, so. In the. In the frogs.
Katie Nolan
Nice.
Commercial Announcer
And it's been really cool to be a part of a Part of that team. Boston Common is, like, the sickest team. It's got Keegan, got Rory Hideki and Adam Scott, and it's just been really cool to get to be a part of, like, this new thing happening in sports. And. And I've gotten to go down and hang out at the arena and play in the arena, and it's just really, really fun, and I'm excited about the future of a. Future of it.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I was gonna say sell people. I don't think I've ever watched any tgl. I mean, I'm watching a lot of sports, and I feel like maybe I've bumped into it, but sell people who might not know about it on what you love.
Commercial Announcer
It's kinda like WWE in golf.
Katie Nolan
Sick. I'm sold.
Commercial Announcer
Done.
Isabella
One line.
Commercial Announcer
We'll be watching the viewership numbers to make sure there's one more person watching me.
Katie Nolan
But.
Commercial Announcer
But it's like. It's a much more rowdy experience. It's kind of like trying to channel the waste management vibe. Like, getting people in the crowd to, like, be excited, be loud, instead of, like, having to be super quiet. And these guys really buy in the pros, have bought into it. There's, like, some trash talking. You get to see a different side of the pros, and you also get to see them, like, right up close to you hitting the same shot each a lot of times. And it's just. It's really cool. It's a fun environment. It's really exciting. And. And they have, like, all sorts of crazy technology that I can't describe or understand. That's really cool, apparently.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
Sick.
Katie Nolan
You Google it.
Commercial Announcer
You do.
Katie Nolan
Do you have, like, a sports memory that you're very fond of from your life in any way?
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. And one of them is a Patriots memory.
Katie Nolan
Nice.
Commercial Announcer
Patriots. Seahawks. Malcolm Butler. Interception.
Katie Nolan
I'm also very fond of that. Just myself.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah, obviously, like, for my Friends and I. And I was excluding for the Patriots in that game, so. So, like, that was incredible. Cause I was, I think. What year was that? 20.
Katie Nolan
Oh, God. Now you're gonna put me on the spot. 20. 13. 13.
Commercial Announcer
I was, like, in high school, and I, like, had, like, some of my first beers, like, around that era. And so, like, one of the first times I got drunk was, like, watching that happen, and I was like, this is so fantastic. Yeah, it was. It was just. Everyone was so excited, so hyped. It was, like, so unexpected. So that was an amazing memory.
Katie Nolan
He was 21 in high school, by the way.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. Yeah. You should see my ACT scores. I was 21 in high school for sure. Sure. That memory was amazing. Watching Chelsea win the Champions League in 2012 was my favorite sports memory ever, though. That was, like, just when you're a kid and, like, you look up to these guys like they're heroes, and watching them, like, win this really unlikely. In this really unlikely way was something I'll never forget. And I always watched Chelsea with my mom, so it was a moment that my mom and I could share and bond over, which was really cool.
Katie Nolan
That was really sweet. Have you gotten to meet any cool athletes?
Commercial Announcer
Yeah. So I got to go party with Eden Hazard, which was so cool. We went to his house and, like, played soccer with him, and he, like. We played pickup, and we were on the same team, and it was just like, I'm playing with him.
Katie Nolan
That's insane.
Commercial Announcer
It was insane. And he, like, did his, like, signature move, like, on the field. It was just so cool. It was like a childhood dream come true. That was amazing.
Katie Nolan
Absurd.
Commercial Announcer
I've gotten to hang out with Keegan, who I absolutely love, is a Vermont guy, and he's such a great ambassador to the sport, such an amazing player, but just a huge fan of music and a huge fan of where we're from. So getting to hang with him is always really, really cool. And, yeah, I mean, I've gotten lucky to meet a few. Few athletes that are. That are so great at what they do, but also really, really good people, and that's been fun.
Katie Nolan
I wonder, you know, stick season. We talked about it before. You're single. Very popular song. Wonderful song. What is your favorite sport? With a stick? What's the best stick sport?
Commercial Announcer
I think golf. Yeah, golf is. They've utilized the stick very well. Yeah, it's the only one that. Let's. Let's see golf.
Katie Nolan
Let's name them cross. Yeah. Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
Do we kind of like paddle ball and tennis?
Katie Nolan
Sure.
Commercial Announcer
Stick Element to that. Hockey, Hockey.
Katie Nolan
Field hockey.
Commercial Announcer
Field hockey. Hockey. That sport where you have that sport that got a bunch of mob guys killed back in the 80s and the. In Boston. What is that one? Highlight High Li. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I haven't actually played that one. Seems to have gone out of style for some reason.
Katie Nolan
I've seen it in person. It is. That ball is moving so fast.
Commercial Announcer
It looks cool.
Katie Nolan
It's alarming.
Commercial Announcer
They don't. They haven't gotten that one in the States really much, have they?
Katie Nolan
I don't. I don't. In that brief period, I feel like there was a. There's a league of it down in the. Down in Miami.
Commercial Announcer
Cool. I would. I would like to do that. But as of all the stick sports go. I think golf is my favorite one.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's a. It's a good one.
Commercial Announcer
You play golf?
Katie Nolan
No, I suck. I really suck. And I can't power through it. Like, I. I'm so actively bad and not getting any better.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
That. It's like. It's very. I feel defeated.
Commercial Announcer
Have you ever had that, like, one good shot, though, where you're like, yes.
Katie Nolan
And that makes it worse.
Commercial Announcer
It makes it worse.
Katie Nolan
It started before I was thinking about it at all. I just hit it and it was like, whoa. That went so far. And everybody was proud of me, and they lifted me up and there was a party, and then I. And then I went and tried again and sucked.
Commercial Announcer
It's almost like you're in a desert and you're, like, have no water or food, and you're, like, walking through the desert, and then suddenly out of the sky, like a thimble of Gatorade falls, and you're like, you got a little taste of it, but you're still gonna die. Yeah, I'm playing tomorrow.
Katie Nolan
It's crazy. It's crazy. Is it, like, important to you to find time to do that when you're on the road? I mean, you must be super busy and running around a lot.
Commercial Announcer
But in all seriousness, that's a big part of the reason I play golf is it just gets me. Me away from the venue and away from, like, my life for a second. I can kind of just disconnect and be outside and be doing something that is challenging and I'm not good at and allows me to kind of feel growth when it happens. And it's really good for my mental health. So I always make time to play golf when I can in places that I'm touring and don't really care where I play. I'll play Anywhere. Sometimes we'll call and be like, hey, didn't your grandkids want to go to a Noah Con show tonight? And I'll go play golf with some like, 65 year old guy and we won't say a word to each other. It's amazing.
Katie Nolan
That's that from what I hear, that's the best part of the experience for a lot of people when they golf. And they're just like, I joined a random foursome. We all had headphones on. Nobody talked to each other.
Commercial Announcer
It's amazing. Yeah, that's how every activity should be, right? You can, like, play something and not say anything to each other.
Katie Nolan
We're together, but we're apart. Yeah, we're socializing, but we don't have to talk.
Commercial Announcer
There you go. The great divide, right there.
Katie Nolan
Exactly. The great divide. The new song, the new album, the new tour this summer. Noah Kahn, absolutely an honor to talk to you.
Commercial Announcer
Thank you so much.
Katie Nolan
Incredible artist and a great sports fan.
Commercial Announcer
Thank you very much. Thank you for the time.
Katie Nolan

Okay, we're back. Big thanks to Noah Khan for taking all that time. You know, right after the interview, we took a picture and he put his arm around my shoulder and I was like, well, which armpit are we? And he was like, oh, it's both. I was like, oh, okay. That's absolutely disgusting. It was so funny. So funny. So funny and such a good sport. And there were so many people in the room. It was very stressful. But he was really sweet and really nice and like a, I really believe him, like a die hard sportsman fan. He's like, you know, super into it. So go see him on tour if you can and, and be sure to check out his new album the Great Divide and his new that'll be out in April and his new single, which you can listen to now. One of the things we talked about in that interview is that he played in the NBA All Star celebrity game, which I coached many moons ago. That's coming up this weekend, right? It's, it's All Star Weekend.
Brady
All Star Weekend doesn't have the luster it used to, but it's.
Katie Nolan
Even the dunk specialist was like, I don't want to dunk anymore, guys. I'm all dunked out. Please stop making me dunk. But look, maybe it'll still be a good event. It's always, I feel like on Valentine's Day weekend, which means next year. Is it going to be when the super bowl is.
Brady
There's no chance.
Katie Nolan
They must move it. They, they have to move it. It's to go head to head with such a huge actual sporting event when you are at this point a series of little contests that some people tune into. I don't know. But we've got the, the rosters for the celebrity All Star Game in front of us. I thought it would be a fun exercise not to go through them entirely, but just for each of us to pick who we think will be named MVP of the celebrity all star contest. Contest. We'll start with with you, Brady. Who do you think has MVP potential on this star studded lineup?
Brady
I feel like they. They're not going to give it to the former NBA guy. So like team onto Takounmpo. Yan Giannis and his brothers are coaching this thing. They have taco foul. The former Celtics center who is 7 foot 6 and is going to be out there standing next to five foot five. People, people. I'm gonna go with Simu Lou from the Marvel movies. He is Shang Chi and that guy played last year. I've seen him in the past. If nothing else, you're gonna get max effort.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Yes.
Brady
He does effort from Shangchi.
Katie Nolan
He does try.
Brady
They. They are, they're. They tagged him as from Shang Chi and also from Avengers Doomsday. So like he's coming back to the Marvel Universe there. It's. It's his time to show.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Not a bad pick.
Brady
Okay, diversion. While we're on Marvel, I meant to ask you this last week. I did not. Did you or Dan watch any of Wonder man on Disney?
Katie Nolan
No, I saw the ads for it in it and felt interested in maybe.
Brady
Watching it very first. Scene one, speaking line. Beth Stelling, the friend of Casuals.
Isabella
No way.
Brady
Shows up in the Marvel universe as a TV writer.
Katie Nolan
Oh my God, that's huge.
Brady
And then we tack onto this episode four, Carl Tartt shows up as a comedian.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so Casuals exists in the Marvel universe, I think is what we're finding sick.
Isabella
Huh.
Katie Nolan
Interesting.
Isabella
So I could put Marvel on my resume basically.
Katie Nolan
And now why are you making a resume?
Brady
Uh oh.
Katie Nolan
Isabella, what's going on over there?
Isabella
No, I promise, I haven't been on LinkedIn in mad long.
Katie Nolan
She's updating her LinkedIn, you guys.
Brady
I promise.
Katie Nolan
I think we need to start preparing ourselves.
Commercial Announcer
Emotion Fernando Mendoza.
Katie Nolan
Let's get Isabella Arrays so that we don't lose her to some other podcast. Chris, Chris, who's your mvp?
Chris
Well, Simulu was the only one that I knew outside of athletes, but. But I'll go. I'll go. Shams. Shams Charania, who's not an athlete but is, you know, tangentially related to the sporting world. Being the NBA insider, he's legitimately the only non athlete here whose name I recognize.
Katie Nolan
Geez Louise, that's saying something.
Brady
I think if I'm an NBA executive, I'm absolutely texting him while he's on the court, making him go back to his phone on the sideline and be like, 12 missed texts.
Isabella
No, you definitely. You know Keegan Michael Key.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, actually, you're right.
Chris
I do know Keegan Michael Key.
Isabella
Or Keenan Allen.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, he's a football.
Chris
He's a football.
Katie Nolan
So what are we not allowed to do any athletes?
Chris
Well, it's just sort of. It's boring because they're probably going to be the most. They are going to be the most athletic, and I don't know. I don't know what Kenan Allen's basketball background is. He's probably played it in high school or something.
Katie Nolan
I think he did. Yeah. Isabella, who do you think is going to be mvp?
Isabella
Let's see. I really love this Andre Degrassi guy because. Because his last name sounds like the.
Katie Nolan
Show.
Brady
And he is Canadian.
Isabella
Is that how you say it?
Katie Nolan
Degrasse. That's probably Degrasse. Degrasse. It looks like Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Right. Kind of an Olympic sprinter. Like running. Yes, yes, yes.
Isabella
Okay. I'm gonna choose Glorilla.
Katie Nolan
Oh, I know him. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Hell, yeah. Glorilla.
Isabella
She's gonna be the mvp.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I don't see why not. I think that makes perfect sense. That leaves me. Well, I'm not gonna pick the owner of the Hornets. Nor am I gonna pick.
Brady
How did he get in there?
Katie Nolan
Nor am I gonna pick the owner of the Suns. I don't think anybody that owns a basketball team is gonna ball out, though. I am very excited to see them try. I'm gonna pick. Oh, God. I'm gonna pick. Oh, God. I'm gonna pick Taylor, Frankie Paul, the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star. Because, listen, she's good tv. I guess. She was also the. Isn't she the Bachelorette? Isn't that the. They had her on two reality shows, like, at once. So she's got to be good tv. And I don't know, maybe she goes out there and just makes a really important shot at a. At a key moment, and that's really all it's gonna take. So I think Taylor, Frankie Paul from Mormon. Who wrote Mormon Wives. TV guy. What does that even mean?
Brady
I'm not gonna lie. Looked at the resume. Did not look up male, female.
Katie Nolan
You thought it was a guy. I see Frankie. I see Paul and Ted.
Commercial Announcer
It's like three consecutive male names in there.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Which equals a woman. So that would have been. Yeah, all right, fair enough. Maybe Mustard will get it. How about Mustard? Having such a year? Oh, for sure. I guess. Year and a half at this point. Point. But like having his own commercial in the super bowl last year and just getting to do all these things that, like, you know, normally a producer doesn't get as much shine. I guess when you scream their name.
Brady
In a song, you scream the name of a Heinz product.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
Middle of a song. And it works out perfectly.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it sure does. All right, well, that's your preview of that. I think we all know now what's going to happen in that celebrity All Star game now that we had such an important preview. The. The coaches are winning. Weird. Like Giannis and his brothers and Mookie Betts teaching. Coaching one team. And then Anthony Anderson, Lethal Shooter, and Chris Brickley coaching the other team is like, what is the balance on that? I don't know. We'll see. Lethal Shooter. That's that guy who can shoot anything into anything on Instagram. Yeah. Isabella is, like, moving on.
Chris
That's it.
Katie Nolan

Anything else? Oh, next week, I think we're gonna. I think we're gonna. I think we're giving in. I think we're going full video on YouTube. I know. Listen, I fought it. I fought it for a while, but if all goes according to plan, we will have full video of these episodes up the day after the episodes drop. So starting Wednesday, we should have full video on YouTube at Katie Nolan on YouTube on Wednesdays and Fridays. So keep your eyes peeled for that. And I think that's everything, right? Yeah. Great. Okay. Enjoy your weekend. We love you. We mean it. And we'll see you back here next week. Bye. Olivia loves a challenge. It's why she lifts heavy weights and likes complicated recipes. Brady
Steps to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
