Katie Nolan
No, that's. That's it.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Rip I mine, I would have done more of like a. Yeah.
Isabella
I don't know why I felt like there needed to be some body to it. Like I'm bane. Like.
Katie Nolan
You'Re right, it is a little bit of a muddy. Also, as we look at each other on Zoom, I wonder why it went out of business. Hello. Hi. You can find us there. And now usually this is where I yap. But, but I wanted to talk to the producers today because we've had some interesting developments in sports in general, starting with Isabella. The last we spoke, your Knicks were heading into game six against the Pistons. Yeah. And you were pretty stressed out about that. But they won.
Isabella
I know.
Katie Nolan
And you told us that you had a little. You played a part in that win.
Isabella
Oh, yeah. So I got some inspiration from our prior guest, Heidi Gardner, Shout out, where she said that she, like, wrote affirmations before games for the Chiefs. So I decided to write cute little notes to the Knicks on post it notes. And then I stuck it to my Knicks jersey that was laid nicely over my couch pillow.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so some examples. What did we write on the post?
Isabella
It notes, Peace and love for the Knicks. With some hearts. I put let's go, Knicks. Hearts, I put, go, Brunson. Go, heart. Go, Cat. Go, Bridges. Go, everyone. Hearts.
Katie Nolan
Go, everyone.
Isabella
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, like, when I wrote that, I was kind of nervous because I was like, what if it's also kind of including the Pistons?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
God is.
Isabella
By everyone, I kind of mean everyone on the Knicks.
Katie Nolan
You have to specify. But I guess it worked.
Isabella
It worked because we. We did well. And then last night.
Katie Nolan
Well, so now because the Knicks have won, they move on to the next round. And that next round just happens to be against mine and Chris's Boston Celtics. And that first game was last night. Monday evening. Yeah.
Isabella
How do you guys feel?
Katie Nolan
You know what this is? As a new sports fan? I love. I do love.
Isabella
Okay, Miss, like, you did that on the very first episode of this damn show.
Katie Nolan
It's such a funny line to walk. Cause I think about this all the time where I'm like, you're being too mean. And then I'm like, no, we're trying to teach her the rivalry vibes. And then I'm like, when she does it to me, I really hate it. But it's like, it needs a little bit of balance.
Isabella
I know. I don't like it when people do it to me. This is the one thing I don't like about sports. There was a point last night where I was just like, I don't like sports. I don't want to watch it anymore.
Katie Nolan
Let me actually read you the text that she sent the group last night, because it's very funny. Also funny. This came after Chris asked us in our meeting. He's like, hey, do any of you guys watch the games on delay? Because I won't text the group chat. And we all were like, no. And nobody asked Chris. And then Chris watched the Game on a delay, and I think we blew it because we were all group chatting about it in our group text.
Isabella
So.
Katie Nolan
Sorry. Isabel texted, this game is stressing me out. I'm scared. This was before the fourth quarter ended. And then I think when we went to overtime, she said, I may need to write up some affirmations really quickly. Then she said, I'm scared with two exclamation points. And then when the Knicks won, she said, God is good with 3. Raise the roof hands. That's what those are, right? That's raise the roof hands.
Isabella
I kind of see them as like praise hands. That's why I did God is good.
Katie Nolan
God is the roof. Yeah.
Isabella
And by the way, I did end up writing something up. I put. I put a post it note specifically on the TV this time, though, so.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Isabella
It would radiate well faster than if it was on the jersey.
Katie Nolan
Well, it works.
Isabella
And it said, the Knicks are so talented and so loved. That's what I did. The Knicks are so talented and loved.
Katie Nolan
And they are, are they not?
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
So talented and loved. The Celtics missed how many threes in that game? 45.
Brady
Yeah, they went 15 for 60. They shot at a 25% clip. No one in the history of the NBA playoffs has ever missed that many three pointers.
Katie Nolan
Well, it's. It's. Have that many people ever tried that many?
Brady
No.
Katie Nolan
That's right. Okay, so you miss 100% of the shots you try to take, I think is what they say. And we came pretty close to that. Yes, we did, if that's the thing.
Isabella
Also, it was nice to finally see what Joe Missoula looks like.
Katie Nolan
You. Oh, yeah.
Brady
Oh, this is your first time.
Katie Nolan
I was.
Isabella
I was watching too. I was like, joe Missoula. They always talk about him. That's what he looks like. I didn't know. Like, he looks young.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
I just always imagine, like, coaches to be older.
Brady
The young Pope, he is extremely Catholic.
Katie Nolan
What is the. What. What's. When's. The next game?
Brady
Wednesday. Next game is Tomorrow night at 7pm I'd expect the Celtics to come out firing in this one. They had a long layover from that Orlando series. They were coming off a long break, and there's always that rest versus Russ, NBA fans, rest versus rust. And whether that played any part in the fact that the Celtics came out and couldn't hit any shots whatsoever, whereas the Knicks, who I think were coming off two less days rest, were able to come in and, you know, play really good defense. You know, Brunson came out in the Fourth and just went absolutely nuts, which we were expecting him to do. But I don't know how much of that rest versus rust comes into this equation. Poisingus only played 13 minutes in this one, but that's sort of what you expect for poisonous. Like you can't really rely on him to be a consistent factor in these series. So I wouldn't use that as a, you know, as an excuse or anything like that. But the Celtics are historically good three point shooting team. You can't expect them to go and only shoot 25% of their threes at any game throughout the rest of the series. So this is probably that one game where, you know, they probably went in maybe a little bit too cocky and, you know, relied on the three ball a little bit too much because they had an opportunity to really attack the rim. They were attacking the rim quite regularly in that first half. They got a lot of Knicks players in foul trouble. I think Brunson had like four fouls pretty early, was in foul trouble early, and maybe Cat as well. And they decided not to make the most of that. They didn't attacked the rim the way they should be doing. They just relied on the threes and no one could hit him. And that's what happens. And still, regardless of the fact that they missed 45 threes, they still took the game to OT.
Katie Nolan
Crazy. It's. I. I didn't think we had enough time in a game to miss that many threes and still have a decent game. So. Yes, hopefully, as you texted after you watched it, Chris, hopefully the Celtics will come out on fire next game. Tough to drop the first one at home. Not what you want to see, but. But don't rest on your laurels, Isabella. We're coming for you.
Isabella
Okay, Wait, is the next one also at Celtics or is it.
Brady
Yeah, first turn two.
Katie Nolan
Two. And then they alternate 111.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
For the as much as they need to. So.
Isabella
So, Brady, are you choosing the Knicks side or the Celtics side?
Katie Nolan
O. Gun to your head.
Brady
He's going to choose the Knicks because of Josh Hot. Because Josh Hot's from Maryland.
Jake
It's kind of the problem is my wife is from Massachusetts.
Isabella
No, Brady, never a problem to have a wife, Brady.
Katie Nolan
Green. Green would be a nice color on you, Brady.
Isabella
I don't know. You're wearing blue. You're halfway there.
Jake
I've said my dad is a bird guy, like everyone's dad, right?
Katie Nolan
And we talked about what that means.
Jake
Josh Hart is a product of Silver Spring, Maryland. He's a Wheaton High Wheat and high gentleman, but I just. I feel like I got a. It'll lean. Celtics.
Katie Nolan
Oh, this is tough. Okay. Oh, this is tough. I thought he would even just for the 5050 of the podcast. I thought he would take Isabella's side.
Isabella
But I'm muting myself.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jake
Don't go too far. What it's like to be one against three. Sports World.
Isabella
Why this is so annoying.
Katie Nolan
This will strengthen you. This will strengthen you as a sports fan. You're being forged in fire.
Isabella
Okay, I know, and I don't like it. It's gonna make me not wanna like sports.
Katie Nolan
No, no, no, don't. No, don't, don't. Stay with us. Stay with us. You're stronger than that.
Jake
Al Horford's gonna be my deciding vote because Al Horford is still playing.
Katie Nolan
Mr. Horford. Mr. Horford.
Jake
The man's 40.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jake
Like, that's my. I gravitate to LeBron because he graduated high school the same year. Like, yeah, I'll root for the old guy in the series.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Brady
He's still playing some good basketball as well. But at least this brings up, like, a lot of spice. In the NBA playoffs. We mentioned in the first round, even though we had, you know that. That Clippers Nugget series go to seven games. The rest of the series were just sort of nothing a little bit. But the Celtics dropped their first game. The Cleveland Cavaliers, who were the 1 seed in the east, dropped their first game.
Katie Nolan
And to who were the Cavaliers playing?
Brady
Paces.
Katie Nolan
That's right.
Brady
Indiana paces.
Katie Nolan
Yep.
Brady
And then the OKC Thunder, who were the 1 seed in the west, also lost their first game.
Katie Nolan
Okay. And I'm. I don't know if we've. Just to refresh everyone's memory, I'm married to the Denver Nuggets. That's. I'm married into that fandom. That was a stress full game and an incre. An incredible ending. Just a crazy. The noises that came from the other room when Dan was watching that game. Because the late games. If it's a Celtics game, I'll watch it. If it's not, it's on my laptop and I'm playing video games. I can't. Not sacrificing my night to watch the Nuggets Unless it's like the finals. But they were down for most of that game and it wasn't close. And then they really closed it up in the fourth quarter and got it done. And I was like, I'm so happy for you. My team couldn't quite. But I'm so happy for you.
Brady
Aaron. Aaron Gordon draining the three pointer with less than three seconds left. They finished the game on a 154 run. They really got it done when it mattered. Also, Nicola Jokic just finished with the casual 42 points and 22 rebounds, which is some monster numbers from the Joker.
Katie Nolan
And what are. What's the rest of the matchups for this second round? Just to set the scene for our fans at home.
Brady
I'll tell you if you'd like. We've got the warriors and the Timberwolves. Another series. That game one will be tonight because tonight is Tuesday. And then we also have. That's it.
Katie Nolan
That's it, right? I think we did. There would be four, right?
Brady
Yes, correct. Yeah, I'm just terrible at math.
Katie Nolan
No, same. When it comes to the playoffs, it always feels like there's like supposed to be a little bit more. It gets the. The field gets narrow quicker than you remember. Yeah.
Brady
Yeah. So Timberwolves and Warriors.
Katie Nolan
All right, so we'll look forward to those. We'll also put a bow on the first round of the NHL playoffs. Here's how we'll do that. We had our guests on DJ and Pete and they gave us predictions. And what I'll say that I found fascinating is they got everything right. There were two series where they split and one of them got one right and one of them got the other right. Which to me means that these two are a perfect team. It's why they're a pair. It's why we love them. So Dallas, very exciting. Dallas beat Colorado that final game. They were down going into the third period and they scored four goals in the third period and won in Dallas. It was thrilling. It was Miko Rant and who used to play for Colorado. So there was. He scored. He had a hatrick in the third period. One of them was an empty net goal. So just have to say that as a little asterisk. But an amazing end to that series. Dallas comes out of there. The Golden Knights beat the Minnesota Wild. The Edmonton Oilers beat the Los Angeles Kings. Again. Again. It's insane how many years in a row those Kings fans have had to deal with being beaten by the Oilers in the Toronto Ottawa series. Toronto won. Ottawa lost. Devastating. Florida Panthers. Isabella's Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens. Les Habitual and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New Jersey Devils. We knew that one already. That was already locked. But the series that got Chris to text me about hockey was Winnipeg St. Louis. Chris set the scene.
Brady
We're in a Game 7, which in itself incredible to watch Game 7 in the NHL playoffs at any round.
Jake
Should we put dramatic music behind this? Yes, Some sort of stock. I feel like Chris is cranking this up.
Brady
You've just added another 10 minutes to my edit insert here. The Blues are up by two goals with less than three minutes remaining in Winnipeg. In Winnipeg. And Winnipeg, being down by two goals, decide to pull their goalie so they can bring on an extra skater. And they score to bring the margin within one goal, right? So in the last two and a half minutes or whatever it was, they're a goal down, they again pull out their goalie and in the last 15 seconds, they're just like peppering it at the goals, peppering it. Just trying to get any sort of look possible to see if they can get any luck with getting a deflection or getting it past the goalie, whatever they can do. With 1.6 seconds left on the clock, they score to take the game to ot. It is the latest goal, the latest game tying goal in NHL post season history.
Katie Nolan
Crazy.
Brady
It was incredible. The building went absolutely berserk. And then to cap it off, they ended up winning it with 4 minutes left, 5 minutes left in OT. So it was an incredibly long game, but an electrifying end to an incredible game. And it just goes to show how fun postseason hockey is because even though a team was up by two goals, anything can happen. Anything can happen. And it did happen with 1.6 seconds left. They just like, it was a Hail Mary shot at the goal and it went through and it was. Man, it was a lot of fun.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, the crazy thing about hockey, I mean, there's a number of crazy things, but it's. It really. It doesn't take that many seconds to actually score a goal. So at any time, anything can really happen. Whereas what's interesting about basketball is like at any moment you can really go on a run if you're down by a lot. But somebody would really have to like, string together a run of points in order for it to close a deficit. Whereas in hockey, I feel like it's so like, you never know. Never rest. The theme of this podcast today is rest on your laurels. It comes up quite a bit. But yeah, hockey keeps you on your toes. And then sudden death overtime is just one of the best things that exists, I think, in Sports. Sorry to St. Louis Blues fans. That must really suck.
Brady
Brutal.
Katie Nolan
Really, really had to suck. But again, my brother and dad were at a Bruins Blues game when the Bruins were gonna win the cup and they lost in Boston and St. Louis, like, skated around with the cup. And so for me to them. For them to have a little bit of pain. I didn't hate. I'll just say I didn't hate. And this is all in good fun. All in sports. Good fun. All right. A bunch of other stuff happened that I feel like we should probably discuss. Isabella, did you watch any of the Met Gala last night?
Isabella
I did. I was switching back and forth between.
Katie Nolan
The Knicks and the Met Gala, and I was like, I wonder if anyone else out there is doing this.
Isabella
It's weird. Actually, my TikTok algorithm brought me someone where she was like. She's like, when you want to watch the Knicks and Met Gala, shout out her.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, shout out to her.
Isabella
It's like, me too.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I started watching the broadcast of the. Of the Met Gala, and then I kind of realized it is the red. It's the super bowl of red carpets. But there is no. I mean, there's an event. We just don't, as a viewer go to it. And there's also nothing happening inside that they need to discuss. So the interviews are very, like, hit or miss.
Isabella
I actually. So I turned on the Vogue live stream on YouTube. That one I actually found was boring because all you hear is just the paparazzi yelling, look at me.
Katie Nolan
Look.
Isabella
Right. And then I wasn't really liking the interviews that much, so I watched the E1, where at least with that one, you could just hear them talking about the outfits in the background, which is more entertaining.
Katie Nolan
Yes. And shout out Maria Taylor, who was the host of that We Love Her. The theme this year was super fine tailoring, black style. And then also, I think, like a separate. It was, like, tailored for you. So those were the possible themes. I'm always big on. I'm. I'm an adherent to rules. If you tell me there's a theme, I'd like you to try to meet the theme. Diana Ross didn't care about the theme. And she's probably the only person that I'm like, that's okay. You don't have to worry about the theme. Everybody else, if you're not on theme, you're losing points from me. I don't know. Call me old fashioned, call me by the book, but I thought that it was an interesting theme. I. There was a lot of repurposed tuxedo. There was a lot of pinstriping. There was a lot of, like, a new take on, you know. But then there was also some people who took the tailored to you. Did you see Wednesday, who plays Jenna Ortega's dress was made out of, like, measuring tape measure. I thought I would hate, like, metal. She looked fantastic. A very, you know, interesting take on the.
Isabella
Did you see Demi Moore's where she was in a tie? Like, her dress was a tie.
Katie Nolan
Huh. Did you like it?
Isabella
It looked really cool. Yeah, I don't. Yeah, it was just like, they had it shaped where it was. Like, they had literally, like, the loop that would typically go around your neck above her.
Katie Nolan
Interesting.
Isabella
And then, like, the gown went down into, like, a point, like a tie.
Katie Nolan
Interesting.
Isabella
So I don't know. I just thought that was kind of cool.
Katie Nolan
I'll Google it. I felt like, yeah, it. It's tough because in years past, it's tough to go and do the Met Gala after years when the theme was, like, camp, because we got to the point where we were seeing wild stuff. Like, Jared Leto one year brought, like, a head to the. To the red carpet of himself. And so it's like, to go from that to then everybody just wearing, like, a nice dress. There were moments where I was like, give me more. And I had to keep reminding myself that, like, that's not. It's not always about that, like, the costumey aspect of it. So I kept trying to remind myself that throughout the night. But I will say the. The athletes in attendance, I could have. I didn't. I didn't feel great about. I wasn't like, yes, that's amazing. Like, I. You know, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens were there. I do think it's very funny now. Shout out to Jonathan Owens at any time he does an interview. He. He lifts up Simone Biles and praises her, because famously, that podcast where he was like, I didn't even know who she was. And everybody was like, excuse me, she's the prize.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
So now he's. It seems as though he's heard and learned and grown. I love that for him. But I didn't love Simone's dress. But again, I don't know anything about fashion, so I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna say what I don't like. Isabella. I thought we could pick our best dressed. Our best dressed athlete, and then I have a honorable mention for best face here. I don't. You don't have to partake in that if you don't want to. But my best dressed. I think, you know, I really liked Kerry Washington, even though I'm. I'm against. I'm over the sheer everything, the being able to see people's underpants through their dress. I think we've been doing that for five years now, and I'm over it. But Kerry Washington did it in a way I really, surprisingly, I really liked. But I think my best dressed is Coco Jones. She was. Came out early in the night. It was when I was still watching the broadcast, so maybe I'm just biased, but it was just perfectly tailored. It was very intricate, and she just looked stunning in it. I loved that look. I don't know what it was about it, but I really liked Coco Jones. Who was your best dressed.
Isabella
It's tough. I think I'm just the first one that I remember. I was like, I liked this. The entire look together was honestly, Dochis. I know a lot of people were like. It was a little, like, underwhelming because of. I don't know if you saw that. She, like, she had this huge tent and, like, umbrellas of, like, do not show my outfit. And then a bunch of people were like, that was it. But, like, I liked it. I liked the. The flaunting of, like, the. The brand on, like, the suit and, like, the shorts. Yeah, it was suit shorts.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
I just thought it looked really cool.
Katie Nolan
The. The coming out of the hotel in a big box to hide your look. I get it. I'm also like, we need to stop putting cameras at the hotels where the people going to the Met Gala are leaving from, because obviously they want to show their look at the Met Gala. It's just the event itself is a red carpet, so cameras should not be. This is a hot take. Get the cameras away from the hotels. Let the poor people leave their hotel. Well, they're not poor people. They spent quite a bit of money on the ticket to go to the event. But, like, let them leave the hotel without spoiling what their outfit's going to be.
Isabella
That's like, you spend however many months, like, planning this, like, outfit.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Let people gather because, you know, other people aren't going to be able to go to the gala and see what they're wearing. Let the fans go there, but get the cameras out of there. They shouldn't have to hide to get to the car. Yeah.
Isabella
She looks so good, though. It looked. I loved it. And then best athlete, I think I'm gonna go with Lewis Hamilton. I liked his outfit.
Katie Nolan
He looked really nice. He always looks really nice.
Isabella
Very sleek.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
I liked the off white look.
Katie Nolan
Looked really well put together. I will say for athletes, I was surprised. No, LeBron. Usually we're not getting LeBron at the Met Gala because he's at the. In the postseason. Um, that didn't happen this year. He said he didn't go because of his knee injury. He was a chair of this Met Gala, and he didn't go. But Savannah went and she looked wonderful. But so best dressed athlete for me again, I'm gonna go with Angel Reese. Uh, Angel Reese wore Thom Brown. I thought she looked great. Um, so Angel Reese is my best dressed athlete. And then. Oh, also, did we know that George Lucas is married to a black woman who's part of the ownership group for the Denver Broncos and is an investor in the Denver NWSL team? Melody Hudson Hobson. Did we know that? I didn't.
Brady
No.
Katie Nolan
I had no idea George Lucas had it like that.
Brady
Since 2013, they've been married.
Katie Nolan
No clue. But I love that George Lucas is sports now from here on out. I know. Very exciting. Okay, and then best face. Did you see anybody's face who were obsessed with.
Isabella
Yeah, actually, Jenna Ortega. I thought her makeup was so good.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
Like, I know I could see people being like, oh, it's just, you know, whatever basic look. But I think she looked really good with the dress. But her makeup was like, really, like. That was the one thing that actually really stood out to me.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I had two for best face. Hunter Schaefer looked incredible. I'm not a fashion girly, so I know people really liked her outfit. For me, it looked like a chef's coat. It looked too much like she was dressed as a chef. So I'm giving her best face because her face looked incredible. And then second best face or other best face. Anne Hathaway. I don't even want to know what you've done. I don't want to know if it's skin care procedures, injectables. I don't want to know what. I just want you to give me a price tag. I just want you to give me a price tag so I can decide if it's attainable for me to look as good as you look right now. I know she had a tight pony. I think this was tight pony plus, because she's been looking. She just serving.
Isabella
That's what it was. She didn't get anything done. She just had if it was.
Katie Nolan
I'm gonna be Ariana Grande for the rest of the year. You'll see me in nothing but a tight pony for the rest of the year. For the rest of my life. All right, that's that. The derby also happened. Two minutes. The most exciting two minutes in sports. And yet I'll. I'm gonna confess something here. You Guys, I didn't even tune in this year. I didn't. I didn't. The H wasn't there. I don't know why I'm clearly alone in this, because I saw that it had, like, record viewership numbers or whatever, but I just couldn't bring myself to. I think it might be. Isabella asked something about it on. I might have been off mic before we left on Thursday, and she had. We had to tell her that if a horse gets hurt during the Derby, they shoot it on the track. And she was shocked by this information. And I feel like refreshing it right now.
Isabella
I'm like, I know.
Katie Nolan
And so I think I just was like. I saw that it was going to be muddy, and I was like, I don't even want to. I'm not going to. But who watched it and how was it?
Jake
I didn't watch.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God.
Jake
None of my neighbors invited me to come over and drink their beer and watch.
Katie Nolan
So I was, wow. How dare they? You gotta move, huh?
Brady
The only horse racing I ever watch is the Melbourne cup because we get two days off for it. It's on a Tuesday, the first Tuesday in November every year. And again, it only goes for about two and a half minutes, but we get the Monday and Tuesday off for it. What if. If the race is able to give me two public holidays, then I will do it a service and watch it. That's why outside of that, if it's just on a Saturday and I don't get two days off for it, I'm not going to commit my time to you. I'm sorry.
Jake
The craziest thing is that down there, the horses run clockwise.
Katie Nolan
Shut up. Okay? The. In Boston, we get a day off for marathon Monday. It's the longest possible race. You guys have the shortest possible race. You get two.
Brady
Two days.
Katie Nolan
Days off for a horse race.
Brady
For a horse race, huh?
Katie Nolan
All right. The big headlines. I saw that came out of it. Livy Dunn getting a lot of criticism. So much criticism that I don't even. I was going to criticize her. And then I saw. I googled the race to see who won, by the way, who did win? It wasn't journalism. And ain't that par for the course?
Jake
Sovereignty.
Katie Nolan
Sovereignty.
Isabella
Sovereignty.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. What did you say?
Isabella
Is it Tiz Tastic? Isn't that one of them?
Katie Nolan
What happened to Tiz Tastic? Did they. They didn't die. No horses.
Jake
100% survival rate.
Katie Nolan
That's right. 100% survival rate. Also, fun fact. 100% of them were descendants of. Who did I Say Yesterday, Secretariat, Secretariat, 100% of the horses, all from the same. Which just goes to show, if you are a winning horse, you be fucking the rest of your life. You ride off. You ride off into the sunset. You know what I'm saying? People just bring their girl horse over and go, would you mind? And he goes, absolutely not. And then they just go.
Jake
Which makes you weigh the wish reward for the horses. Like if the risk is that, you know, if you get injured, they will shoot you. Think about what the reward is for winning.
Katie Nolan
So. Right. Oh, my God. What? This is how they get the horses to agree. They're like, wait, if I lose, you shoot me? And they go, yes, but if you win, it is just drowning in pussy. I don't know. That's a weird thing to say about a horse, but it's true. The. Yeah, so Livy Dunn, I guess, did the. What is it? Writers up. She gave the universal writers up. It's a quick line and she was looking down at the. At the. At her line, people were like, you couldn't memorize one line. It was such a big deal that when I tried to Google who won, all the headlines were like, livy Dunn speaks. Finally breaks her silence about her Kentucky Derby mishap. And I'm like, listen, you guys, she's a college gymnast.
Isabella
She.
Katie Nolan
You made her famous. The reason she's there is because you click on her stuff. You tell people you're interested in her, so they're giving you more her. She doesn't do this for a living. It's loud. It's a loud live event. There's horses. There's a lot of people who've been doing the Derby. NBC has had the Derby for as long as I can remember. It is a it run like clockwork broadcast to throw her into. I could see that being overwhelming. Give the girl a break. Who cares? It's a ceremonious riders up. Okay. If she didn't do well at it, stop liking her photos, stop following her. I don't know. You asked for this. This is what they gave you. Lot of influencers at the event. I feel like it used to be celebrities and now it's influencers. But this is probably just an old woman take. So I'm whispering it on the off chance you want to cut it out. But it is. I was just like, it's so many influencers.
Jake
Chris is going to raise the volume in post no matter what.
Katie Nolan
I know, but I don't know. Are you into influencers? Isabella, do you know who Josh is? It Josh Richards. Do you know who that is? I didn't either, but he's got the prettiest girlfriend I've ever seen in my life, and that's what I learned. And then also Tirico. What happened with Mike Tirico during the broadcast?
Brady
He had to, he had to leave the booth because he accidentally had something that had a nut in it and he has a nut allergy. So his throat start to close up a little bit and he started to feel a little bit ill. So he had to move away from the set, excuse himself, and have shot of EpiPen.
Katie Nolan
Crazy. I always, I'm a poor guy.
Brady
That's good thing. He's okay. He's okay. I was feeling okay by Saturday night, so good. Always okay.
Katie Nolan
Because I worry about Mike Trico. That's la familia, you know, that's my guy. So shout out. Mike Tirico. Shout out. Aaron Rodgers may be engaged. They said that he showed up at the, at a derby event with a ring pass. And, and okay, we don't want to know. I, I, I'm just surprised by his ability to do something in silence. I didn't, I didn't know. But I'm glad for him. And if he's happy, I'm happy, I guess. Speaking of familia, the, the Pope. Look, the derby is a big gambling event. A lot of people put money on gambling and we shy away from gambling on this podcast. I just feel like there is too much gambling in sports content in general. We're making a minor exception here because there's been a rise in the intern. According to odds makers, there's been a rise in, in international interest for gambling odds for the upcoming conclave. The Conclave starts on Wednesday, tomorrow, which is when all the cardinals gather in the Sistine Chapel. They lock themselves in there. They're not allowed to come out until they pick a new Pope. And so odds makers have been releasing odds for who is most likely to become Pope. And as a casual sports fan podcast, it's kind of part of our ethos that I often say it's tough to get into something without a rooting interest. And so we decided as a staff here at Casuals, we were all going to take a look at the odds and then pick who we're rooting for to become the next Pope. I feel like we, the way they make the field is that they pick who they think is the most papabile. I looked it up. That's how you say it. I thought it was palpable. It's papabile or papabala if you want, but it's papabile and they pick from this list of cardinals who they have deemed the most papabile. You could probably do a papabile parlay. I don't know. I don't work for any of these companies. I'm sure somebody's got a papabale parlay and there's a list and we all picked them. I assume somebody's picking the favorite or no, Are we all picking a deep cut?
Jake
I don't think. Anybody want chalk? Pope, your favorite? Pietro of Italy.
Katie Nolan
Say it again.
Jake
Pietro Peralin of Italy is going off the board at plus 250 right now. That is.
Katie Nolan
And who are we using?
Jake
Who's the betmgmg?
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Jake
Only legal to be bet on in Ontario.
Katie Nolan
All right, so that's our favorite but not who we picked. I guess we'll start with Brady. Who's your pick for your. Who's the most papa to you?
Jake
So I never want to put a bet down on somebody that I don't want to.
Katie Nolan
We're not betting. You're just picking you people.
Jake
I'd never want to put a wager down on someone I don't feel like rooting for. I have taken at plus 2500 via bet MGM. A 25 to 1 bet. He's a long shot. I take big swings. His Eminence Kevin Joseph Farrell, Prefect of the dicastery of the laity, family and life since 2016. Cameron of the Holy Roman Church. I am not Catholic and will struggle with a lot of these Pope words, but I'm doing my best. He's an Irish American born in Dublin, but was the associate pastor of St. Peter's parish in Olney, Maryland in 1984. Across the street from lacrosse practice.
Katie Nolan
Crazy. Everything traces back to Maryland pretty much.
Isabella
But not Josh Hart.
Brady
Clearly doesn't like Maryland that much.
Jake
Devin Joseph Farrell, he has been the archbishop of both Dallas and Washington in the United States. Became a cardinal in 2016, the same as Tommy Edmond. Very trustworthy, non evil looking face. He's my guy.
Katie Nolan
Okay, that's Brady's pick. Chris, who you got?
Brady
So while it would have been funny to choose the Australian based Cardinal Mycola Bychock to be elected as Pope, consider considering he, like Katie and like Brady, was born in the 1980s. Okay, that would have been very funny.
Katie Nolan
Having a personal attack.
Brady
Just saying we're getting to the age. We're born getting to the age where 1990.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so we're not getting to the.
Jake
Age where People my age are Pope.
Katie Nolan
Nobody thinks I'm gonna be Pope.
Brady
Maybe we get the. So it would be funny if we. And it would be fun to have an Australian Pope. But my pick is Cardinal Mario Grec from Malta, specifically from the island of Gozo in Malta.
Katie Nolan
Isn't Malta.
Brady
Malta is three islands.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Brady
Gozo is the second of the islands, and it's where my family are from. That's where my mum's family is from. I. On BetMGM, he is not listed on the current list of. On the shortlist.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Brady
But I'm hoping that my pitch can bring him into contention here. I've seen him in some other betting markets as high as 20 to 1 odds.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Brady
So he does have a shot. And I'm going to quickly tell you why I think he should win and why he will win.
Katie Nolan
Great.
Brady
So he's a canon lawyer who has major influence on how synods on the church are run. He's helped implement a more inclusive approach to church governance. And I also confirmed after much research that he is, in fact, a family friend of mine.
Katie Nolan
What?
Brady
My great aunt, who is a nun in Gozo, knows him.
Katie Nolan
Huh.
Brady
They are friends. So he is a family friend of mine.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Brady
Essentially family. So I have to root for him because he is family. Now, to give you a bit more information about. So the way that the Conclave works, for all of you casual fans out there who didn't see it, there are a few key elements that shape a cardinal's chance for the. Are we saying papacy, or is it now papacy? I don't know how to pronounce it now.
Katie Nolan
I think it's.
Brady
Is it still papacy? Because the, the word that you said before made me very confused, but I would still say papacy.
Katie Nolan
Papabile is the word you're thinking of.
Brady
So papacy. Yeah, the papa, the chances for the papacy. Age is a big thing. So recent history shows preference for candidates in their late 60s, early 70s. Health, physical and mental stamina is obviously very important. And church politics. So a candidate's theological stance matters, so does the relationship. If we have a look at Myra Greck, he's 68, so he's the perfect age bracket. Good combination of experience, youthful exuberance, your typical high ceiling sophomore type. Your typical, you know, sophomore coming out of. Out of, you know, college. Right. So he's at the right age level. And the average life expectancy of Maltese men is 81.69. So he's, you know, got a good, good another, what, 12 plus year window. And the average length of the Papacy is normally seven and a half years, so you've got, like, a good lifespan there. He has no known health issues, and we all know the best ability is availability.
Katie Nolan
That's right.
Brady
So that's good for him and the church politics. He began his career quite conservatively, but since 2020, he served as the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops. In this capacity, he was Pope Francis point person organizing and overseeing the synod meetings that took place in Rome every couple of years. And he was responsible for putting synodality, which is the efforts to make the church more welcome and inclusive, at the heart of Pope Francis's reform agenda.
Katie Nolan
So he's cycled the ball around.
Brady
Yeah. He's become an outspoken defender of migrants during Malta's migrant and refugee crisis in 2014 and 15. He, like, gave this talk where he surprised many observers by his welcoming and positive language on LGBTQ Catholics. So he wants to welcome a lot of people into the church, including LGBTQ Catholics.
Katie Nolan
You got there, you landed the plane.
Brady
And look, putting it bluntly, no cardinal being considered for pope represents cindality efforts more than Grec. If a lot of cardinals out there want to continue on with that pro Pope Francis agenda, Mario Grec is your man.
Jake
Is this a different assignment than the rest of us?
Katie Nolan
I think so. I think so. When I think of the Maltese, I don't think of cardinals. I think of falcons.
Brady
You know, they call them the Maltese falcon.
Katie Nolan
Yada ta da da da cha. Okay, Chris, thank you for your presentation. I guess I'll follow that up. Look, I wanted to pick Robert. Sara, because it sounds like Robert Sala. I thought we could make a fun comparison there. We could do something fun with that. He's also, I believe he's from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. And so I wanted, you know, black Pope. I'm in on that. Then I looked into the guy. Not probably for me. He's. His views and mine don't really. I would say align. And also you said, healthy is important, Chris. And he had prostate surgery in July of 2021. He also is retired. I didn't know you could retire and then be like, but unless you want to give me the top job, I'll come back for top job. So I couldn't. I couldn't pick him. I also wanted Tony Larussa.
Jake
Did it, like, twice.
Katie Nolan
And how did that go? And how did that go for him? Pierre Batista, Pizza Balla. Boy, did I want to pick Pizza Balla. But then again, I looked into Pizzabala. Oh, wait, we didn't. Isabella didn't even go yet. Yeah.
Isabella
What about me?
Katie Nolan
Well, let me finish. Let me tell my pizza balla, and then we'll take your pick, and then I'll give mine.
Isabella
Okay, cool.
Katie Nolan
I wanted to pick Pizzabala again. I looked into him because I did my research, and I found that his. From 2004 to 2016, he was the custos of the Holy Land. And just. I know you know what that is, but if you didn't. The mission of the Holy Land, the custody of the Holy Land, is to guard the grace of the holy places of the Holy Land and the rest of the Middle East. And now the Holy Land is the space between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. I just don't think this guy's probably been doing that good of a job. And so I don't think I can pick him in good faith. And so that ruled out pizza bola for me. Isabella, what was that?
Jake
I see the pizza bolies jingle.
Katie Nolan
What's that?
Isabella
I don't know.
Jake
Oh, is that too local?
Katie Nolan
Oh, am I to Maryland again? Sorry.
Jake
All right, cut that. Cut me during this.
Katie Nolan
No, leave it. Isabella, who are you picking?
Isabella
The most papable.
Katie Nolan
Nice.
Isabella
Is Cardinal Tagle.
Jimmy
Whoa.
Isabella
Okay, I'm.
Katie Nolan
I'm rooting for a Filipino Pope, Luis Antonio Tagle. I got him at 3 to 1 odds. Brady, what do you have in your tagley?
Jake
I got plus 325.
Isabella
Okay, so it seems like he's the second most popular. Listen, this is. He's all over my for you page. I. Like, my dad was like, he. You know, my dad actually literally sent me. I guess this showed up on his timeline of a video of you on Pablo show talking about this. And he was like. He was like, why aren't you talking about Taglia on the show? And I was like, this is not my. This is not.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that's so funny.
Isabella
So, dad, this is for you.
Katie Nolan
Shout out. Dad. Hi, dad. Sorry it took us so long to.
Isabella
Get here, but I don't know a ton about any of the candidates, but from what I've seen on this one article, he embraced gay Catholics.
Katie Nolan
So good.
Isabella
Great for that.
Katie Nolan
So good. We love that for him. Now, if I had to guess which one of the producers would say they were related in some way to a Pope candidate, I would have guessed. Isabella, I. Because that's what happened on Pablo's podcast is they both were like, I'm sure somehow I'm related. This man is now my uncle, and I will be rooting for him. And I'm basically Pope, so I was pretty Surprised by the, by Chris being related. But Isabella, did you see that they were trying to. Do you cancel a pope? They were coming for him saying that it was not godly of him to sing karaoke. He did.
Isabella
We sing at church.
Katie Nolan
He did. No, but he did the song, the John Lennon song.
Isabella
Imagine.
Katie Nolan
Yes. And they said that that's, that song does not have a godly message. With Gal Gadot. Yes. Did you see they were trying to cancel him for.
Isabella
No, I didn't.
Katie Nolan
Karaoke. I don't think you can cancel a Filipino pope for, for doing karaoke. I feel like that's so either that's discriminatory against your culture. That's right. All right, so those are the picks. Here's mine. After much careful consideration, I had to pick an Italian. I know that that's hacky just because the Vatican City as a country is located within Italy, but it's, it's, that's my culture. And like I said, pizza bola was out. So my choice, Matteo zupi. Matteo Zuppi, 69 year old Archbishop of Bologna. Been the Archbishop since 2015. He was a Cardinal since 2019. Pope Francis, May he rest in the most peace, made Zupi the cardinal. So there's a connection there. Matteo Zupi has opposed right wing populism, nationalism and anti immigrant beliefs. He emphasizes Europe's moral duty to welcome migrants. He is the fifth of six children of a journalist. I just, I don't know why I find that fascinating, but I think that's an interesting fun little fact. He helped end the civil war in Mozambique in 1992. And now I know your first reaction to that might be like, okay, was that helpful to the people in Mozambique or did he come in and sort of impose some sort of a. No. He was made an honorary citizen by the people of Mozambique because of all the help that he gave to their country. And then the next year, in 1993, he went to Turkey to try to secure the release of two Italian tourists who were being held by Kurdish rebels. This guy is boots on the ground. He's in there solving conflict, mediating conflict, which is what I want my pope to be able to do. He was Pope Francis personal peace envoy and he defended in 2024 the Fiducia Supplicans, which I know we all know what that is. But that was the thing that Francis got a lot of heat for where he said that same sex marriages are allowed to be blessed by Catholic priests. And my guy Zuppy Zupi to pope was like, I agree. He's also not against making priest celibacy optional, which I think is very progressive for the church and would maybe be helpful in certain areas. And his motto, I looked up his motto and a lot of people had the same motto, which I thought was kind of wild, but not my guy. Matteo Zupi's motto is the joy of the Lord is your strength. And I agree with. I agree with that. My pick is Matteo Zupi and his odds, he's plus 500. And then lastly, you guys, I won a War Zone. I've never won a War Zone before, and I won it over the weekend. It's a big deal to me. Okay? It was a quads and I want it. I've been playing Warzone, I mean, on and off, because I'm no good at Warzone. I'm more of a multiplayer Call of Duty gal. But I been playing it on and off since the. Since the Demi Lovato, the Pandemi Lovato and I, and just. We just won for the first time. So shout out to. I guess it was Mark Sampson, Ryan Gagne, my brother Kevin Nolan, and I.
Jake
Hell yeah.
Katie Nolan
War Zone champs. I think I killed two people.
Jake
Gulag or no, I was alive at.
Katie Nolan
The end, and that matters. I believe I had gone to the Gulag and come back, but I bought back, like, three guys, so I. I played my part. Everybody plays a role.
Jake
You're a healer.
Katie Nolan
Can't all be the superstar. But we won. That was a big deal to me. Now that we're 17 hours into the podcast and we know everything about the Cardinal, that Chris wants to be our Pope, I feel we should probably bring in our guests. If you are on the sports Internet in any way you are aware of John Boy, they are a massive media company, mostly focused on baseball, but lot. You know, a lot of baseball media is traditional and it skews a little older. John Boy is the future. They're the younger side of baseball media. This is, you know, in my opinion, but I. That seems right. Brady, that's fair.
Jake
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. So Jimmy and Jake, two of the big guys, they're the main guys of. Of John Boy. They came by. I. I met them. Their studio's right near us. So I went over and saw them a couple weeks ago when we were launching, and they were nice enough to come over here and chat with us. So they're going to run us through some of their favorite viral moments of baseball to remind you guys that baseball is happening. You don't have to be paying full attention to it right now, but if you want to know what's going on. They get us caught up a little bit. We chat about them being Yankees fans because you can't. It's the elephant in the room we had to address. And then we help you pick a baseball team based off of your moon sign. So after the break, I assume enjoy our chat with Jake and Jimmy from.

The Jomboys. Jake and Jimmy. I realized when you guys came over here as I was like gonna do your intro, I don't think I've ever even thought about either of you having a last name. Is that okay?
Chris
That's fine.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
You. You go by full name?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I Think Pretty common.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
You know, like, we never.
Chris
We would. No. I don't know. You're like one of those people that have to say both.
Katie Nolan
Oh, really? Oh, I didn't. No one's ever said that.
Jimmy
Oh, we're seeing Knowles today.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, no, it's Katie Nolan.
Chris
Katie Nolan.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
We can start that if. If you want.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, no, great. Yes, please.
Chris
If you could, like Aaron Judge.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Nobody says, yeah, Aaron, and nobody just says judge.
Chris
Not because it's a thing.
Katie Nolan
Right. A noun. So that's pretty much the highlight of the conversation I think we're going to have. Whose names are nouns? Look, we're casuals. We're for people that, you know. There are maybe people out there who might not know who you are. So give me the quickest elevator pitch of John Boy and what you guys.
Chris
Do, baseball fans, Yankees fans, that have podcasts and do videos and talk about sports.
Katie Nolan
I feel like you could have left that part out. I feel like you could have left it out. You could have not worn the sweatshirt with the insignia. Just knowing where you're coming today, that.
Chris
Was the start of it, though.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. The Yankees started it all for you.
Chris
Yeah. Well, if we were Reds fans, we don't exist. It would never happen.
Katie Nolan
Why?
Chris
Because they don't have a fan base to launch a network.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that makes sense.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
A lot of Yankees fans, they're everywhere. You look like cockroaches. You see five, there's a hundred more in the walls.
Jimmy
You were uncomfortable when you came to our office.
Katie Nolan
It's just a lot.
Jimmy
75% Yankee.
Katie Nolan
It's a lot. And it's not subtle.
Jimmy
No.
Katie Nolan
So I walked in and I was hoping it would just be like, you know, we're baseball, but some of us like the Yankee. But it was a lot of.
Jimmy
There was an instant, like, Yankees, you kind of kicked in for a little bit that it was like you might have to fight your way out.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Like this. This could.
Katie Nolan
I started sizing people.
Jimmy
It could be double birds, and I'm just out of here.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Which I like that energy.
Katie Nolan
I looked around and I was like, okay, I'll fight. I'll start with the two girls.
Jimmy
Right.
Katie Nolan
And then the rest of the men.
Chris
A lot of Mets fans, they try to act like they're a bigger group than they are, but they're not.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Is that. I'm. I'm always fascinated by everybody's individual opinion on being a fan of a team that's got two teams in the city. If you root for the other, when yours is knocked out. Or if you think that's. That's blasphemy.
Chris
I wouldn't now due to the Soto stuff, because I. That is annoying. And. But in the past, like in when it was Harvey and deGrom and they were all the young pitchers in 2015. Was it. Yeah. I was rooting for the Mets then. Like, that's fun for the city, I think. Yankees. It's very big brother. Yankees fans will say yes, and Mets fans will say absolutely not.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Because rooting for you guys is really hard. That's why. Rooting for the Yankees is a difficult task.
Chris
Not some years.
Jimmy
Have you ever.
Katie Nolan
No, no.
Jimmy
I know. I know it's a dumb question, but I don't know.
Chris
In 2001?
Katie Nolan
No.
Chris
Wow. That's like.
Katie Nolan
No, it isn't.
Jimmy
It makes sense.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
I've never. I haven't room for Red Sox.
Katie Nolan
It's. It's like it's gotten in the way professionally how much I hate the Yankees. I can't take it off. It's.
Jimmy
Has it changed at all because we don't win.
Katie Nolan
No.
Jimmy
Like, that's kind of the elephant in the room.
Katie Nolan
True.
Jimmy
Yankees used to win a lot.
Katie Nolan
Love that.
Jimmy
If I can't see, that's the part I'm not about. Right.
Katie Nolan
I'm a fan of that aspect.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
No, because what happened was I did that. That fever dream year in baseball and worked like, had to coordinate with the actual team and they sucked then, too. So it's just reinforced for me, top to bottom. Not a fan.
Chris
Yeah. When I moved to California, I got. How would I phrase this? A soft spot for all of northeast baseball fans and the passion around it. So when the AL east was like the Blue Jays and the Rays were good, I was like, this is awful.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And I don't think it's good for anybody.
Katie Nolan
Right. Agree.
Chris
So I like when the Yankees and the Red Sox are good. I would never root for the Red Sox to be better than the Yankees.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
But when the Yankees are first place, the Red Sox are last, that's not as fun for me.
Katie Nolan
What about when the Red Sox are first place in the Yankees are last?
Chris
I don't like that hard pass.
Katie Nolan
I mean, truly. I. I guess I'm agreeing with you on that. Not going to say I like the Yankees to be good, but it is fun when there's. When it's competitive.
Chris
We were in Connecticut. Jake's from Connecticut his whole life. I lived there for two years in high school in 03 and 04. So our hallways were like rivalry hallways in High school, like, kids were painted their face red for Red Sox. That was the Pedro years, was freshman, sophomore year.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And like, it went to, like, the high school. Like, they were chanting in the hallways, like, let's go Red Sox, let's go Yankees. I was like, this is awesome. Awesome.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
I moved to California and there was kind of none of like, that passion about sports because they're like, the weather's nice. Let's go outside.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
I was like, this is.
Katie Nolan
And then after that, they got like a bunch of football teams. That's what always fascinated me when they all the influx of sports to a city that spends their time outside.
Jimmy
Right.
Chris
Yeah. Then the Giants got good. I moved back, and everyone was a Giants fan.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And there was no more Ace fans.
Katie Nolan
And like, the bum. Was that the bum Garner time?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, yeah. That was fun. Something you said made me. Oh, yeah. That's like the rest stops in Connecticut when you pull over, and they're always like, Yankees and Red Sox stuff.
Jimmy
Don't get them started on rest stops.
Brady
Katie.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. You got a hot takes on. I know you did say, please don't talk highways.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
All right, let's. Then let's skip the highway talk. Don't get fired up. You guys brought. Look, what you're really, really good at is baseball. Internet. You guys are like the number one stop. If somebody wants to get into baseball, see what happened in baseball, they go to you. So I told you to bring. To try to convince our fans or get our fans caught up on what's been going on in baseball, because it's also post season basketball, postseason hockey. There's a lot going on people might have missed. I wanted you to bring your five most viral moments of the 2025 season so far.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Should we go through this list that we've got here?
Chris
Yeah, I think we have some on there that are good for new fans that just like, just give me surface level entertainment.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
And then there's some that's like, this is the deeper weeds of what's interesting about the sport. So you throw one at me and we'll. I'll. We'll.
Katie Nolan
I was letting you finish the sentence. You don't want to. No. Yeah, you're right. Lopez throws near McCutcheon's head.
Chris
So that's just a brawl, which I think interests surface level people. Because there's fighting in baseball.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
In a different way than any other sport has. Because everyone runs from the dugout. Like in hockey, it's sanctioned.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
Allowed in football, it's scary because they have helmets and you're like, I don't want to watch this.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And baseball, it's, it's, it's, it's similar to basketball more where it's like nothing. But there's even more nuance because it's always like a batter and pitcher yelling and everyone that runs out has no idea what's going on.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
That was Lopez threw out in McCutcheon's head. He says not on purpose, but it was, it was probably on purpose because they hit a home run off him, which I don't know if any other sport has that. You did good off me, so now I'm going to hurt you.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Is that you like that?
Chris
I like the entertainment of it. I don't like guys getting hit in the head.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. But scary.
Chris
Yeah. I think it's very silly that baseball promotes that and talks about it. And like when something like that happens, it makes all the highlights and they push the highlights.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
And they also find the players like, well, that's a little backwards. You're kind of using this as like flagship entertainment of your product.
Katie Nolan
Right?
Chris
Also finding the players.
Jimmy
Michael K. Who calls your Yankees. He was. And we, we're, we're starting to get older. Michael K. Dropped. He was like the bullpen shouldn't come out for fights. Like kind of how the NBA banned the benches being able to come on the court.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Jimmy
And no offense, Caser, he's been like super awesome to us to him though. But yeah, no, like it's so entertaining. Like seeing, seeing the 36 year old journeyman like bullpen guy who just joined the team last week run out of the bullpen to fight. For what?
Katie Nolan
For what?
Jimmy
For what army?
Katie Nolan
There's no way they even know what the necessarily is the gist of it. And what I wonder is why don't they ever fight out there?
Jimmy
Right?
Chris
That's what I. They should just.
Katie Nolan
When the bullpens egg like you know, come out from the outfield, why don't they ever meet in like center field and have their own melee? Why do they feel they've got to come all the way, run next to each other? It's like when you're leaving a restaurant and you say bye to someone and then you're walking the same way. It's like why not just have your fight out there instead of having to run alongside one another to join a fight?
Chris
Was it that. There was a video I just did where I. The bullpens emptied and they were. It was. No, it was the Yankees and the Orioles. Orioles. And they're waiting at the door. They're like in line to leave the bullpen door together.
Katie Nolan
Very cordial.
Chris
And then run down. And then they just walk back laughing.
Katie Nolan
Strange.
Chris
But that was a big one. Because anytime a guy gets a ball thrown near his head, that is scary.
Jimmy
I think they have to stay off the radar, though, because, like, if an actual bullpen brawl broke out.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Now that's like. Okay, do we have to do something about this happen Fair.
Katie Nolan
When? Like the 20s.
Chris
No. 1998 was a big one. That's like the biggest one where it was me.
Katie Nolan
I was in it.
Chris
And also Red Sox. Red Sox. Yankees.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
That Pedro situation. Tanya Sturts came from the bullpen and he started throwing punches.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Yeah. Sometimes there's a reliever that's like the biggest hothead. Because they're just bored, right?
Katie Nolan
They're not doing. They're just sitting there.
Chris
Yeah.
Jimmy
Have you sat at the Fenway talk trash to the bullpen seats?
Katie Nolan
No.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Have you?
Jimmy
I've not.
Katie Nolan
You've been to Fenway, I assume.
Jimmy
I've been to Fenway.
Katie Nolan
Much better park than your park.
Chris
Yeah. Ours is a stadium.
Katie Nolan
Well, it's like a mausoleum. It feel. It gives cemetery vibes. It gives like a monument to years past. Past greatness.
Jake
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Hair on this microphone.
Chris
Museum people go to those.
Katie Nolan
Right. Not for fun. Not to drink beers.
Chris
No. But yours is great if you want neck ache.
Katie Nolan
Right. Or to like, half be able to see.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
You know, or to get really close to your neighbors. Okay. Your second most viral moment. Pitcher blows kiss to opponent, then regrets it. What happened here?
Chris
This is. We're good at what we kind of. This didn't get talked about anywhere else, but we were told about it. So that's kind of what we can bring to life sometimes with the videos is this picture for the Twins was doing all these antics. He blew a kiss to the runner on second, who had a lead.
Katie Nolan
And then who are they playing? Do you know the Royals?
Chris
It was Melendez on second, and he was like checking on him to make sure he's not taking a big lead and blew him a kiss. And then through the pitch, gave up a hit immediately. Yeah. And then later on, a guy bunted on the same pitcher, got a hit. The next time that guy comes up, the pitcher goes to him. Bunt. They gave him the sign like, are you gonna bun? First pitch homer.
Katie Nolan
What do you do that for?
Chris
It's just thinks he's can do that, but he can't.
Katie Nolan
But he already had learned that game that he can't.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
And then you do it again.
Chris
Yeah. He's got a long name, so he's got a lot of work. Like a lot of making up to do. Simeon, Woods. Richardson. You have that name. You have an edge.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. You have to.
Chris
I gotta prove myself. Three names.
Jimmy
The hyphen.
Katie Nolan
Is it technically blowing a kiss if all you do is this? Don't you have to.
Chris
I don't know.
Katie Nolan
I think you have to use that.
Jimmy
I think blowing a kiss.
Chris
Well, because you used to blow it like. Like that.
Katie Nolan
That was good.
Chris
And my daughter doesn't do that. She just goes.
Katie Nolan
And a lot of kids go when they're learning it, they go. They blow into their hand.
Chris
So I've been thinking about this a lot because my daughter blows kisses goodbye to me and I'm like, did you really blow that to me? Like you kind of just kissed your hand and waved goodbye.
Katie Nolan
Right. It's still here. You have to release a good question. Yeah, that's the hard hitting questions.
Isabella
Do you catch it?
Chris
It's a good question. If she correctly blows. I'll catch it. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
It. Once she gets it. Right. But you're not gonna do it.
Chris
No, she's like.
Jimmy
She's like, you gotta get it there.
Chris
You don't even need to ask. Now she's blowing kisses left and right.
Katie Nolan
Damn. You should put a lid on that. Quickly. Get out of hand.
Chris
See, once she starts doing both hands, she likes three.
Katie Nolan
How old is she? Not even two. Okay. So I think you got time before it gets out of hand. Yeah. Barrios got mad Raleigh was stealing signs.
Chris
Yeah. You know what? This one's happening a lot. I have another video coming out today. The same exact thing. So this, this is something that I think if you're. Even if you watch baseball every day, you might not like, notice this stuff.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
But when the runner's on second, he can see the pitcher's hands. So he'll do a signal to the batter to let him know what pitch is coming. And Cal Raleigh was doing. Doing that by what arm was hanging. So like one arm was on his hand and this right arm was hanging down. And that meant fastball. And then this one meant slider. And then it just happened again with the Giants and the. Who was it? And the. And the Padres. And this video is coming out where another catcher was on second, Patrick Bailey.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And his signal was pull the chest for fastball and touch the helmet for curveball.
Katie Nolan
Who figures this out? Who goes, oh, I can tell he's bunching up his jersey.
Chris
The Pitching coach. So, like, all the pitchers that are not playing that day, their job is to watch for this. That's what I've learned talking to players now that we've gotten into this is like, no. When you're not playing, your job is to watch for all the shenanigans that could possibly be going on.
Jimmy
And there's guys that are, like, famous for being good at it. Carlos Beltran, I believe, and sucks that he got tied into the bad sign ceiling scandal, but he was, like, notorious for, like, he could figure out, like, whatever the pitcher was doing.
Chris
Yeah. That Blue Jays team with Josh Donaldson and Joey Batista. Who else was over there at the.
Jimmy
Edwin.
Chris
Edwin was over there. We're all really good at. If a pitcher had a tell. And we talked to another guy who was, like, part of that lineup, and he was like, yeah, they could always see it. And then they'd tell me, and I'd get in the box and be like, what am I looking for?
Jimmy
And I get out and. Yeah. It's funny when the different form of athletes get involved, because there's the guys that, like, feed off that.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
They're like, give me. Give me more information. Like, if. Even if it's wrong. And then there's other guys that are like. Because if you get it wrong that one time.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
And it's like, oh, slap the right knee. It's a curveball, and they throw a fastball. A lot of athletes, you just.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
You're gone.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Jimmy
You've lost your whole competitive edge.
Katie Nolan
Right. Like, why would I listen to you if that's gonna. If you're only gonna make it? I think I'd be. I think I'd be going in there just swinging and being like, tell me less. I'm gonna.
Jimmy
We're gonna hope for the best if you've got something.
Chris
Yeah.
Jimmy
Like, it's kind of crazy because these guys are so good that if you know the right pitch is coming, these guys can hit it.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Except against Nathan Evaldi.
Chris
Yeah. In the wild card game. Yankees Red Sox. He was tipping all his pitches, and the Yankees didn't. Still didn't win, Stan.
Jimmy
So that's a little for you. That was a peace offering.
Chris
Stan hit two off the monster.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. That's a good. The people that.
Chris
The people that watch baseball that don't know this happens time.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Get very mad at me when I post videos about why they just think I'm making it up or like, it's cheating or it's not part of the game.
Katie Nolan
It's a. It's absolutely a part of the game. It's an impossible thing to call yourself a baseball fan and not realize that this has always been.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
At every level, a part of the game.
Chris
But, like, when I talk to players about pitchers tipping, they're like, every pitcher tips. It's just a matter if you can figure it out, find it, and react in time. We're like, I'll. Like, last night, Pavetta, I was watching at home and I figured out his thing and I posted and people are like, you're just rewinding this. I'm like, no. They're like, it doesn't happen this often. Well, you talk to big league players like, yeah. No, it does.
Katie Nolan
Like, yeah.
Chris
And it's people's jobs to find it all the time.
Katie Nolan
They're just mad that you do it out loud.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Because you're sort of letting people know what the tip is and is that why they're mad at you? Because you're like, yeah, yeah.
Jimmy
Credibility.
Katie Nolan
The Internet's.
Chris
But it's also, yeah, we're in a cool spot now where players will message.
Katie Nolan
Me, like, and sit and be mad or message you to ask you to.
Chris
Tell me that it's happening. There was one with Devin Williams and Pete Alonzo, big one in the playoffs last year. And before Alonzo hit the home run, we were. I was getting texts from players that were not and being like, yo, do you see this? He's tipping all of his pitches. And then Devin at the home run, he's like, told you.
Katie Nolan
Or Alonzo hit the home run.
Chris
So I kind of have inside scoop now, which is cool.
Katie Nolan
Damn. I'll tell you what. I don't ever notice. I don't ever notice, and I don't. I don't have time to care about that. I'm just here to watch the game.
Chris
Yeah, you have to really be watching.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. And I just am usually doing a couple other things at once. Looking up when I hear the crack of the bat. Yeah, that's me.
Chris
I can't be like, second screen.
Jimmy
Are you phone out?
Katie Nolan
I try not to be. I'm trying to get off my phone. The. The screen time notifications that I've been getting have been alarming. The Sunday notification, that's like, last week you averaged. The number is too close to 10 for me to be comfortable. So I'm actively trying to do it less. Does that mean I am doing it less? No, but I'm trying to do it less. I would say. I like to. I'm trying to Read while I watch a baseball game.
Chris
I used to do that.
Katie Nolan
I can only do that during, like, the day games because there's just like one game on. And so it's not like trying to follow multiple games at once. But yeah, it's usually phone or I'm like, tidying up or like, cooking or something. Yeah. But I love baseball. I am trying to tell people that don't think they like baseball, that if you are looking for something that's like, second screen, you don't have to fully. Like, you can. You can fully pay attention to it, but you can also watch it in a way that's like, look up when you hear that noise, watch the action and go back to whatever you're doing. It's perfect for that.
Chris
Do you ever have it on the TV or like, you're a screen in a different room and then you're washing your hands, you're doing the dishes, and you think you hear the announcers start yelling, so you go run the check. But it's not. It's like phantom home run call.
Katie Nolan
Or it's like a commercial where they're playing a highlight from a different game and the announcer and you run in and you're like, I wish they wouldn't do this.
Chris
I get got by the, like, the phantom home run call. Like, I'll just hear Michael K. Start talking louder.
Katie Nolan
I'll be like, it's happening.
Jimmy
It's not something that we've been trying to pitch, but we haven't been able to package it the right way is. And you can get involved in this.
Katie Nolan
Great.
Jimmy
Is that we also think as a part of that, people are supposed to kind of lose baseball for a little bit. Like your college years. You kind of. Unless you're a baseball heart, like, you're already in. That's fine.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Jimmy
But, like, you shouldn't be watching from 18 to 22, three hours of baseball every night through your summers.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Jimmy
So we're.
Katie Nolan
You're busy doing other stuff, growing, making mistakes, high schoolers.
Jimmy
So we almost need a, like, entering the real world baseball, like, entry pack. But also, maybe I don't want baseball to be associated with that because that can be a negative connotation too. Like, this is my life now.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
But there's something there.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. My whole thing is, like, I feel that way about a lot of sports is I think people, if they're honest with themselves, come and go in seasons where they're like, oh, I was going through a big, like, basketball phase, or I was going through a big and So I think one of the issues, one of the reasons I wanted to do this podcast, because I think getting back into some of these things, a lot of the media is made for the people that are already in. And it's harder to be like, how do I dip my toe back in? I want to get back into baseball, but where do I start? Consumable goal of this?
Chris
Yeah, you know, I like it. Casuals baseball has this thing where the media always reports like there was just an article out that was like, Gen Z says they're not going to watch baseball, but Gen X is doubling down. It's like, like they're, they're losing the, the youth. It's like, no, Gen X didn't watch when they were 20 either.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
When you get a 9 to 5 and you come home at 7 and you're just looking to melt on the couch, that's when you watch a lot of baseball. I'm always my, always my point to mlb. Whenever people ask me, like, what would you do? I'm like, just get young people to play baseball and watch the highlights and enjoy it. So it's not so much a learning curve when you're older to figure out the games and the strategies and all that where they do a good job. Because every little kid plays baseball enough to where you know the basics of the rules.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
So when you want to start watching, you can. But yeah, we don't need 14 year olds watching baseball every single night. It's not like over the summer.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Go outside, please go outside. Run through a sprinkler. Are they still doing that? Short foul poll robs Judge of a home run.
Chris
Oh, you'll like this.
Katie Nolan
I will. I already do.
Chris
Cost Judge a home run.
Katie Nolan
Great.
Chris
The Rays are playing in a minor league facility which is also the Yankees spring training facility.
Katie Nolan
Weird.
Chris
There's a statue of George Steinbrenner outside. They have short foul poles and they don't have seats. So the white ball doesn't have the contrast of the outfield seats to see if it's fair or foul.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And they called a fair home run foul.
Katie Nolan
Oh.
Chris
Could cost him a lot of money.
Katie Nolan
How?
Chris
Well, he's like the best home run hitter ever.
Katie Nolan
Right?
Chris
So he was. He tied the record.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
He's having a historic season.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
What if he ties the record again and then we go back to that home run call and we have to beat up that umpire?
Katie Nolan
I mean, what if. That would be pretty.
Jimmy
Then in 20 years we're doing old documentaries and there was a foul ball home Right. In Tampa that year. And they're like, people forget.
Katie Nolan
That's going to be you guys.
Chris
It is. I just did it.
Katie Nolan
The old. Yeah.
Jimmy
Short Foul Polls was actually the name of our first podcast.
Katie Nolan
Damn.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Damn. That's. That's tough. A tough look.
Jimmy
It was about polish. It was about Polish baseball.
Katie Nolan
Oh, oh, oh. I thought I went to the wrong.
Chris
That's my short. That's why I was worried about smelly Polish people.
Katie Nolan
All right, and then the fifth most viral moment of the season so far, fan interference on Trout. I watched this live.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
The. The guy's face. So the fan reaches over to try to catch a ball in his. In his defense. He's looking up at the ball in. In the opposite of his defense. He is on the edge. He's like. Right. He's the last person before the field. So a little situational awareness. You might think this ball is probably in play, possibly being caught by a player, but he kind of goes for it and then rips it out of Trout's glove.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
And then the look on his face when he kind of realizes is the.
Chris
Best part is the Astros, right?
Katie Nolan
They're playing the Astros.
Chris
Yes. So this. This is one that anyone. Like, this is the most surface level. If you just want to be entertaining, trained.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
You don't even need to like sports at all. I could send it to Miami. Like, watch this. Oh, that was funny.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And it's an element of baseball that isn't in any other sports besides golf, where the spectator can, like, get in the way.
Katie Nolan
I was trying to think basketball kind of. They sit very close to the action, but rarely do they get.
Chris
They'd be, like, jumped on.
Katie Nolan
Yes.
Chris
Like, this is a ball that. Yeah. I think those. And this is another thing that baseball kind of fights. Like, they could very easily make a barrier and not allow the fans to reach over, but it's also awesome.
Jimmy
The other thing with baseball is each stadium is different. Like Wrigley, the foul line goes literally against a brick wall that I guess I'm trying to. Because the basketball comparison is interesting to me, but it's all the same. And there's people on the sidelines that, you know, if a loose ball is going the side, there's going to be something happening here with. With a. The fans have no clue. A guy sees a ball coming at him, he's with his kid. Like, I'm gonna get this ball for my kid.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
He said he was protecting his kid.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Well, nice.
Katie Nolan
I would say that as well. If I screwed up, that Would be my number one go to.
Jimmy
Trout and him both handled it well, though.
Katie Nolan
They took pictures after they got to meet him, they got to, you know, kind of encouraged people to do that more often. You could argue.
Chris
Trout said, the look on your face, that's what it's all about.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Just regret.
Katie Nolan
Like, oh, no. And then he like tried to give it back. He's like, do you want the behind? Fascinating.
Chris
Huge fan of instant regret.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Funny. I was another thing I saw that you didn't mention, but that I saw was I saw a ball boy field a fair ball this year. You see that every now and then where they'll like, you know, do the thing where they take it and they toss it into the crowd. And then someone's like, that was fair ball. And I saw that happen this year. And what stood out to me was the ball boys reaction was like, no, it wasn't.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
And they're people were like, yes, it was. The umps are meeting now because they have to discuss what to do with what you've done. That was in plane. He's like. He pointed and was like, no, the ball. What it wasn't. And just. That is not the reaction. That's a younger generation reaction. That's like, this is a you problem, right?
Chris
No, I was in the right.
Jimmy
Let me guess. They were like 24 years old.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
And you were like, excuse me. Be apologetic. And they were like, oh, what do you want me to do?
Chris
Yeah. You're getting a little too angry about this.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I want you to not field a ball that's in play.
Jimmy
Right. Maybe it's one of the three listed tasks of the job.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
They didn't even say, nice play, mom.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. All right, let's talk about some of the big storylines of the season. And then we have a bit we're going to do that I'm kind of excited about. Oh, nice with you guys. But you mentioned Aaron Judge. Historic start. He has not only taken his 2024 AL MVP form into 2025. He may be exceeding it. How so?
Chris
Judge it. Well for anyone. Yeah. If you don't follow baseball, what baseball has become is a sluggers like paradise. So. Meaning if you hit home runs, you usually don't have a good batting average.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And Judge is saying I'm going to hit the most home runs and also have a really good batting average. So his batting average is.400, which is incredible. Usually you, you tank, you know, contact for power just because he's really big and strong. So he is like, he doesn't have to swing that hard to hit home runs.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Kind of crazy.
Jimmy
He has. He has a track record of every year kind of improving one thing. It's kind of like his Dexter, like there was. It was blown away sliders. And then one year he kind of went in the lab and stopped doing that. And then I think the next year is like, change up splitters, went in the lab, stopped doing that. That. Yeah. He just continues to get better after kind of being the best. And. Yeah. There's just a weird kind of mental. He's so big and so New York City and Yankees brand and shield that it's like, oh, he hits the most home runs, big guy. But he really is the best at like hitting for contact, which is insane.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And he's got two triples this year.
Katie Nolan
Whoa.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
I love the look of. Aren't you impressed by that?
Jimmy
What else?
Katie Nolan
Doesn't that impress you? Whenever somebody hits a triple, I'm like, okay, go for the cycle. Because that is the hardest part is getting the triple. So once they do, if they don't then hit for the cycle, I'm like, you ain't.
Jimmy
What if a guy. If a person shorts themselves to get the cycle. Like, if they hit a potential double but they needed a single.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I would. I'm here for that.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Because it just. Unless you're like, you need the run real bad. Like, unless it's like an important game.
Jimmy
It kind of depends your brand a little bit. Like, I think if you're a player that has the. Like, I'm a ball player. I don't. For the team and all that. Like, if you take that extra double and it's like, wow, he didn't. He didn't even care about hitting the cycle.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
If you're a guy. I don't know, you got a little flair to you and a little site. Take that cycle.
Katie Nolan
Early season game. Just go for the single. Whatever.
Jimmy
Take that cycle.
Chris
I want to. I want to research how many players have hit the cycle and how many players have gone, gotten. Gotten four hits in a game, only one single, but didn't get the cycle. Like, how many guys had a single, two doubles and a home run and they missed the triple. No, that's not what I want to research.
Katie Nolan
No. Because there's a lot.
Chris
Home run triple, two doubles without the single.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
Without the single, without the single.
Katie Nolan
That's what I'm missing. A cycle by this single.
Chris
Yeah. Probably a very small amount, but got four hits.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
I'd be interested.
Katie Nolan
That would be Interesting. How do you even start to. Luckily, you bring a camera guy everywhere you go. So I could text someone and make them remember to. Yeah, that's. Baseball is very good.
Jimmy
Second flex.
Chris
Let's tweet it out right now.
Katie Nolan
Go ahead.
Chris
And by the end of the episode.
Katie Nolan
It'S on your leg. Your phone's right there on your leg.
Chris
Thank you very much.
Katie Nolan
I saw you doing the.
Chris
Oh, we got you a present.
Katie Nolan
Oh, what?
Jake
Jake Myers actually did that on Saturday. Four hits, two homers, triple double.
Jimmy
Oh, yeah.
Jake
Miss the cycle by a single angle.
Chris
Wow. Jake Myers.
Katie Nolan
Wow. Brady.
Chris
For all the Jakes.
Jimmy
Everyone heard that.
Katie Nolan
Good job, Brady. Yeah, I think so. What is this?
Chris
That's Loveless Lyle. And now Legless. And a gift for you in your studio.
Katie Nolan
What happened? What's.
Chris
Well, he's a sad sack and he tries to hurt himself a lot.
Katie Nolan
Oh.
Chris
Has been successful.
Jimmy
Lyle handless like picture in the. In the 90s movie. The character that, like, gets casually hit by the bus or something like that. That's Loveless.
Katie Nolan
Like a nice.
Chris
Yeah.
Jimmy
Good weight to it.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
This is a real. We don't cheap out.
Katie Nolan
Why. Why is this. Are you really giving this to me?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Because I'm gonna put it on my set.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
And it doesn't have, like, some sort of a weird connotation I'm gonna regret later?
Chris
No, just from our set.
Jimmy
Yeah. Even like I'm. I'm seeing now giving you a broken frog with a heart could come off a little weird. But. Yeah, there's none of.
Katie Nolan
I love.
Jimmy
There's none of that.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. Thank you so much.
Jimmy
Anytime.
Katie Nolan
You guys are the best. You're still texting to get more guys.
Chris
I'm tweeting it out. Look at that. Look at how many in the history of baseball have had four hits in a game but didn't get a single?
Jimmy
Not Jake Myers. This weekend.
Katie Nolan
Someone's gonna say. They're all gonna. Doesn't that get annoying when you tweet something out and all the responses are the same and you're like, read the responses.
Chris
See that?
Katie Nolan
Somebody already said that, and then say something different.
Chris
That's Jake Myers. How do you spell Myers? Jake. You know all Jake's last names.
Katie Nolan
Isn't it Y, M, Y. Oh, there isn't.
Jimmy
I think. I think it's E, Y, E, R, S. Yeah, that. That was. I think it was a frustration point for us for a little bit. I guess it still kind of is, but we've moved on. We, like, built a lot of the company and brand and stuff. On like tweeting and replying.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
And now you just can't. You send out a tweet and it's ducking cover.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Which is crazy.
Katie Nolan
It's different. It's different out there.
Chris
We'll check that.
Katie Nolan
It's really different out there. But you will check it.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Great.
Chris
Maybe.
Katie Nolan
So Aaron Judge is good. The Royals set a club.
Jimmy
Do you like him?
Katie Nolan
What? No.
Jimmy
At all.
Katie Nolan
I think he's very good.
Chris
Okay.
Katie Nolan
I think he's boring as a person. I wish he was. I wish I knew more about his personality.
Jimmy
Same.
Chris
He's a dad.
Katie Nolan
Okay. And I. And that's.
Jimmy
And respect the father.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. All dads.
Jimmy
You know the fathers.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
He's from Linden, California.
Katie Nolan
Great.
Chris
Small town.
Katie Nolan
You're not gonna make me like him. You shouldn't even try.
Chris
There's not even much more.
Katie Nolan
You also already said the two things I know. And that everybody knows that just don't. He just doesn't look. He. But it's. I'm not even saying this as a knock on him because he's like you said, he. When he finds a weakness, he drills down on it and turns it into a strength. And I think that's great. I just don't find it very interesting.
Jimmy
If you could give him like a. If you could give him one other athlete's personality.
Katie Nolan
Jose Ramirez.
Jimmy
Okay.
Chris
Can I give you some, like, tidbits that our personality that doesn't get seen because he's very, like, good at it.
Katie Nolan
You could.
Chris
You like. It'll make you dislike him, which is good.
Katie Nolan
Sure.
Chris
There was a year where they would get to sail all the time.
Jimmy
Chris Sale.
Chris
Chris Sale.
Jimmy
Not sailing.
Isabella
Oh, I was.
Katie Nolan
I think they were going out sailing. No.
Chris
No.
Katie Nolan
And when Chris Sale was a huge.
Chris
Shit talking in the dugout is what I'm trying to say. He's just very good about not talking out loud. Like there were shots of him in the dugout where he's like, we're sail killers. Sail killers. And he's like, we're closer killers. And that's like kind of more of who he is. But he just doesn't. He's like the. All the guys that work for the Yankees that are behind the scenes are like, Judge is the biggest talker ever.
Katie Nolan
But, like, show it.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Let it spill over a little bit.
Chris
Yankees. So, yeah.
Katie Nolan
Snooze it is.
Chris
Jeter wasn't as boring as people say it was.
Katie Nolan
He wasn't.
Chris
But people try to like emulate the reputation of Jeter now.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Thinking that's what they have to do. But I went and pulled like, all these old Jeter interviews to show the younger people in our audience in our office. Like, no, no. Jeter actually said things of worth all the time. Like, he would be like, we suck right now. This is not acceptable. Like, they think that judge can't say that. That.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. It's too sterile. But there's beards now. So it's different for us. It's beard. You anti. I thought they were a guy with a beard. I thought they were strange take.
Jimmy
I did that for a while.
Chris
I thought they were gonna police the beards. They said, you know, we're gonna have a policy here.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And then Laraeus is a red sock and a Yankees uniform.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
It's gross.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Whatever. Tristan Costas is out for the year with a ruptured patella tendon that he got hustling to first base moving.
Chris
But yeah, they need to do the double bag because I'm. There's three now this year.
Katie Nolan
Double bag was. We did in softball.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Chris
They're doing it in college baseball. College baseball now does it.
Katie Nolan
What's the argument against. So double bag is one of them is in foul territory and you run through that one and the. And the first baseman puts their foot on the one that's in fair. Right. That's the same.
Chris
Because basically when you're beating out a single, it's a sprint. It's. Who can get to this spot first.
Katie Nolan
Of course.
Chris
So it could just be. And when you play like men's softball and other sports where they're like, we're. We're not pros.
Jimmy
We don't want to get hurt.
Chris
Let's not get hurt. They have two bags. This is where the fielder steps. It doesn't change the game in any way.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
At all. And MLB really needs to institute it because we've got three. Arise.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Casus and who else just went down a picture.
Katie Nolan
But I don't think it had to.
Chris
Do with the same day as casa. Someone else did it. Was it jram or was it someone on the Guardians? I forget. But yeah. I've been advocating for a while and the only. The only reason that we don't do it is toxic masculinity.
Katie Nolan
Sick. I mean, that's crazy.
Jake
Just softball bag.
Chris
No way.
Katie Nolan
But when they. The year they made the big changes, you would think they just sneak in one of the little changes so everybody would be so mad about the pitch clock. They don't notice the.
Chris
Yeah. I don't want it to be orange.
Jimmy
There is.
Katie Nolan
I was Gonna say, why is it. He doesn't have to be. If that's the issue, make it white. That's fine.
Chris
I don't think it has to be.
Jimmy
The problem is. The problem is. Now we can start talking.
Katie Nolan
Could just be one long bag.
Jimmy
A baseball field. A baseball field is very pretty.
Katie Nolan
Yes.
Jimmy
So, like, when they were talking about banning the shift and they're talking about putting lines behind second base or putting a second bag like you're.
Katie Nolan
You are.
Jimmy
Like, I want to ban outfield shifts, but you'd have to put, like, markers where the outfielders would have to stand or something, and then that'd be ugly. So.
Katie Nolan
But I think the bag wouldn't make that big of a difference.
Jimmy
We would get over it instantly.
Katie Nolan
And it would just be at first base. You're not doing it at any other base. It's just. Because it's the only base. It already has a special.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
You can run through it. Right. So it's like you should. It should be.
Chris
You have to stay on the right side of the foul line, but the bag is on the left side. Makes no sense.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it doesn't make sense at all. Yeah, we're advocating for that. Change it.
Chris
Hear that, Morgan? That's the head of rules committee.
Katie Nolan
That's good. I knew that, too. I just didn't say.
Chris
Nobody knows him. He's.
Katie Nolan
Didn't want to call him out by name.
Chris
Morgan Sword.
Katie Nolan
What up? What up? Rockies really suck. I mean, last year we saw the Chicago White Sox have a terror, like, a remarkably terrible season, and it already seems like out of the gate. The Colorado Rockies might top that.
Chris
Yeah. Jealousy looks bad on them.
Jimmy
I love the Colorado Rockies. I lived in Denver for, like, four years. It's a beautiful stadium.
Katie Nolan
Beautiful.
Jimmy
It's a great sports city. Like, they love the Denver Broncos. They've been rallying around the Nuggets. It's crazy that it's hard to pitch in. Course, they haven't looked for a solution.
Chris
Four years.
Jimmy
Try everything to. Yeah. Two in Dallas, four in Denver.
Chris
Wow.
Jimmy
That. Yeah, they.
Katie Nolan
It.
Jimmy
The division's really good. Like, people should know that the National League west is very good this year if you watch that content. But the Rockies are so frustrating.
Chris
They sell out 30k a night.
Katie Nolan
Really?
Chris
Yeah.
Jimmy
Still top 10 in attendance, like, every year. Because it's beautiful. It's well located.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
It's like. It's a great Friday night.
Chris
Yeah. You need tourists to come to your stadium. That's why I like Oakland. Tortoise Tortoises and Taurus, Taurus. Bring your Taurus night. They should do that in Tampa.
Katie Nolan
I watched a pitchers duel in that stadium. It was very frustrating. I was like, I heard there would be dingers. I thought we were doing home runs on home runs.
Chris
Was it Lancelin versus Kyle Freeland?
Katie Nolan
No, it was. Oh, I wish I could remember. It might have been Strider or Max Freed. It was somebody. It was a long game. Went to extras, and I could not believe that that was the game that I was getting in Colorado. All right, I have this crazy idea. So, like I've been trying to say to you, the point of this podcast is to help people get into sports, any sport that might be for them. Now, a lot of times a thing that will help you get into a sport is having a rooting interest. And most people will choose their rooting interest based off of the city that they're in. Yes, that's the easiest way. You live in Boston. You root for the Red Sox. But I wanted to take a different angle and consider other things that might help people unlock the team that's best for them to root for. Because if you're gonna choose, if you're entering in for the first time, why not choose something that lines up with you as a person? And so that got me thinking about horoscopes. Now, everybody, most people know their sign in terms of, you know, that's. I believe your sun sign is like, I'm an Aquarius. You're what?
Chris
I'm a rising libra.
Katie Nolan
I mean, that doesn't make any sense. And you're.
Jimmy
I'm a Libra.
Katie Nolan
Great.
Jimmy
And I'm offended by what he.
Katie Nolan
Just a rising libra. A lot. What a lot of people don't know are. You want me to. Wait, you're a Pisces?
Chris
Finding it? No, I'm Aquarius, but I'm actually not.
Katie Nolan
Are you in January?
Chris
I've gotten really into this recently.
Katie Nolan
Oh, good. This is helpful.
Chris
One conversation with my wife and good, we figured out what I am. And I'm scrolling here. Ready? Ready?
Katie Nolan
Yes.
Chris
I am a lunar Leo.
Katie Nolan
So does that mean you have. You're a Leo moon? Because here's my thing. They say that your, you know, personality and such is defined by your sun sign, but they say that actually your emotions are dictated by your moon sign. And to me, sports are about emotions. So if you were to pick a team, perhaps the best way to do it would be to pick a team based off of your moon sign.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Isabella, I bet you know yours off the top of your head.
Isabella
Yes, I'm a Sagittarius. Moon.
Katie Nolan
Great. Okay. So as an example to you guys, I have all the moon signs here and all of their qualities. Sagittarius Moon is known to be optimistic.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
They love to travel.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
They forgive and forget easily. They find comfort in adventure, in newness and are very adaptable. So I would say, Isabella, you should be an athletics fan.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
You see, because loves to travel. They don't have a home stadium. Essentially optimistic. That's the only person who could put. Possibly see that there's a bright future ahead. Very adaptable. They forgive and forget easily. This to me screams that you should be an athletics fan. Cool merch too, Isabella. So that's a fun. Yeah, congrats.
Jimmy
I was, I was.
Katie Nolan
And where are they? Well, that's. It's a little. They're anywhere you want to be, but they're great on the road.
Chris
And if you jump on the bandwagon now, some people might think you're like a scab or a traitor because a lot of people are really anti.
Jimmy
Are you a scab?
Chris
Are you trader?
Isabella
Well, I don't know. No, I don't.
Katie Nolan
She's not. She does know. She doesn't know what you're saying. But if she did, she would say.
Isabella
No, I don't have a baseball team.
Katie Nolan
So. Right.
Jimmy
Yeah, that's this exercise.
Katie Nolan
I think you could be an athletics fan. That's just my point on that. Now that this has been derailed, I'm going to read a couple of these moons and you can help these people choose their team. Tell me which either what fan base this sounds like I'm describing or what fan base would match with the vibe of a team. You guys are baseball experts in this segment. You are my baseball experts in this segment. In this segment. One segment.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Aries Moon is. They're known to be highly passionate. They're fiery, they're enthusiastic, they have a real lust for life. They are driven by impulse. They're very impulsive. They are assertive. They have a childlike sense of adventure. They can be hot headed and quick to argue or take offense, but they are. They struggle with appearing weak. They want to be seen as strong.
Chris
Those are Dodgers fans.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Do you agree?
Jimmy
Okay. Yeah, I guess I'm, I'm trying to juggle team success with that because I also felt a lot of Toronto Blue Jay traits in there.
Chris
Oh, those are the two angriest fan bases going. And you didn't describe a nice person or someone I don't ever want to be around. So think Dodgers and Blue Jays.
Katie Nolan
Okay. One of those Dodgers or Blue Jays. So if you're an Aries moon, go Dodgers or Blue Jays. Right now, I'd probably recommend Dodgers.
Jimmy
Yeah, I'd lean Dodgers.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. But you never know. Yeah, you never know. Okay, let's do a Taurus moon. Now, Taurus moons like to avoid drama. They are very focused on the pleasantries of now. They like to have, like. They like to know what the very best type of sheets are. And they put those on their bed. They want to know the best type of soap, and they put that in their bathroom. They are grounded. They value stability and routine and habit. They can be a little stubborn. They like security. They crave feeling secure where they are. They have a real eye for beauty, and they are resistant to change.
Chris
I have one. Do you.
Katie Nolan
You can talk it out.
Chris
I was thinking Milwaukee Brewers.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
And why is that?
Chris
Well, it sounds like you're describing someone from the Midwest.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
And the brewers are pretty stable.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And they're in the hunt every year. But it's not, like, luxurious or over the top, but it's a little more comfort. Good.
Jimmy
Yeah. I jumped to Atlanta for a lot of similar reasons, like continued success for the most part. I guess they're good. Is a little more good than Milwaukee's has been. It's true that if they like having the right soap and the right. Like, sometimes Milwaukee, you can't get the right sheets.
Chris
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The luxury items. Well, I was thinking that Milwaukee does spend on, like, Ryan Braun, Christian. They will lock up, like, if a luxury item comes their way, they will lock them up, which other teams won't.
Katie Nolan
But I remember the. With the Braves a couple years ago, the narrative was that they were getting all these deals on guys they really liked.
Chris
As long as they donate to the charity. Charity, then yes.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Every Braves contract is, like, we signed Ozzy for 10 years, and he's donating 1% to the Braves charity.
Katie Nolan
Interesting.
Chris
Every.
Jimmy
What's that about?
Katie Nolan
Huh? What is that about?
Chris
I don't know.
Katie Nolan
All right. Gemini Moon. They're intelligent. They're witty. They're cunning. They are very cerebral. They process their feelings through words more than feeling them. They're always about intellectualizing. They like to weigh all their options before they make any sort of decision. So they can be seen as Is slow at making some sort of a. Action. They're very expressive. They. They talk a lot. They're nervous and restless. They're prone to moon swing. Mood swings. Moon swings. They can struggle to commit. I think I said that one. And they can Be seen as flaky or unreliable.
Chris
If this describes someone that's listening, my advice is seek out the nearest theater because this is someone that should. They're in the arts. I don't know if that describes sports fandom at all.
Katie Nolan
Fair. Sports aren't for you. If you're a Gemini Moon. I'm so sorry.
Jimmy
Sorry.
Katie Nolan
Next.
Jimmy
Let me listen to casuals. Maybe I'll get into sports. Whoa.
Chris
There was a lot of like, oh, God. Logical.
Katie Nolan
Use your brain instead of your heart.
Chris
And take your time. And sports are about rushed emotions and decisions.
Katie Nolan
Ain't that the truth? Cancer. A cancer moon.
Chris
Okay.
Katie Nolan
They're seen as empathetic. Very nurturing, very emotional. They're caregivers. They look after everyone and everything. They always put other people before themselves. Very neglectful of self. They're slow to trust. But once they trust you, they're in forever. They have emotional ties to home and emotional ties to. To family. Very past oriented. They love memories and nostalgia and old things. They're very sensitive and they can hold a grudge.
Chris
Well, the back half of that feels like Yankees.
Jimmy
Yankees.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
The front half felt like twins to me.
Katie Nolan
Why twins? It was a lot of caring for other people.
Chris
Yeah, the twins are very giving. Like one year they were supposed to win the division and they just gifted it to the White sox in like 2021.
Katie Nolan
Always thinking about others before themselves.
Chris
Every playoff series, the Twins lose and their fans give them ovations.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Like, the fans are like. But good season.
Katie Nolan
Oh, that's great.
Chris
Good season. So that felt like the Twins.
Katie Nolan
That does feel like the Twins. I'm sure we'll find another. That feels like the Yankees.
Chris
Yeah. I don't know if the twins like their history.
Jimmy
And is that a tease?
Katie Nolan
I'm just saying there's a lot in here where they're like. This person yells and is mean and. Oh, boring.
Jimmy
That's a moon trait.
Katie Nolan
One of the moons.
Jimmy
I gotta get more into this stuff.
Katie Nolan
Leo Moon. Okay. They are. The first adjective I found to describe a Leo moon is expansive. And I'm not really sure what that even would mean. They're faithful. They are conflicted. Their inner and outer lives are very conflicted. Sometimes who they present themselves to be is not always in line with who they are inside. They can tend to mirror others or people. Please. As an attempt. Is this. Is this ringing true to you, Leo Moon? But they do like to be the center of attention. They also like to make big, bold declarations of love. They are confident. They are warmth and sun. They are laughter. And joy. But they need to be celebrated and they crave external validation.
Chris
Oh, well, at the end, it sounds like the Mets.
Katie Nolan
Huh? Talk to me.
Chris
Well, all that, like, need to be noticed and need to be craving attention.
Katie Nolan
I think that's just because you're a Yankees fan. Is that where that maybe is coming from?
Chris
Cohen is doing like five. They had a concert for their. They're doing a backup infielder in the middle of the season.
Katie Nolan
It did happen.
Chris
That is like, hey, check us out. We're fun. Check us out, guys, please. Why aren't you coming? And then they do like a full whole concert in the middle of the games now. And they're very happy about this.
Katie Nolan
Pride, the joy.
Chris
I'm like, well, you're supposed to be coming for the baseball, but at the beginning, I thought I was thinking Red Sox and. And Phillies. Because the.
Jimmy
The Red Phillies. Yeah.
Chris
One city town somewhat sometimes have that shifting. Like Red Sox fans were this side of your personality, and then the patriot side, all of a sudden you're the Yankees.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And like, you hate the Yankees to death because you never win. And then all of a sudden you are the Yankees in the winter. And so one city towns have that shifting personality, always changing.
Katie Nolan
Interesting. Okay. A Libra moon.
Jimmy
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Yes, a Libra Moon. Indecisive.
Jimmy
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Conflict avoidant. Charming.
Jimmy
Three for three.
Chris
Giants.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Need balance and order. They are. They're keep the peace types of people. Die hard. Romantic. Six or six sometimes have. Tend to have relationship overlap. I don't know if that rings true.
Chris
Jesus. The Giants still have a lot of charm to them. The stadium's nice.
Katie Nolan
Great stadium.
Chris
The franchise has won in the past. I feel like they're conflict of Barry Bonds was the whole thing. They avoided the conflict pretty well.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Jimmy
Wow.
Chris
So you would say, like, the Giants aren't hateable.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's difficult.
Chris
And they haven't been since, like, even.
Jimmy
When they were good, when they were.
Chris
Good, they're that run of every other year they won. They weren't ever a hateable bunch. They were like, admirable. Like in a. In an odd way. So, yeah, I think that's the Giants.
Jimmy
The Cubs. Could they fit that?
Chris
Yeah, I think the Cubs would kind of fit that as well because everyone.
Jimmy
Defaults and it's like, it's Wrigley and it's right. Chicago needs summer, Right?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. All right, so Cubs are Giants. I think that rings true. Scorpio moon. Now a Scorpio Moon. Stubborn, resistant to change Yankees. Volatile emotions. They can absorb the moods of others. So if someone's like, mad at them, they're mad. But if someone's being nice to them, they might be nice. Their secrets are very important to them.
Chris
Raise.
Katie Nolan
And they are possessive. This screamed Houston to me.
Chris
Yeah, that is.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that does Houston. Because Houston was so mad, the Astros fans were so mad that people were mad at them for cheating. And they kind of matched that energy, which was like, we're mad at you for a thing that happened. And they just are very. And I, we, me and Houston, we don't get along.
Jimmy
Really?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, we're just not, you know, you don't get along with everybody.
Jimmy
Right.
Katie Nolan
And Houston as a fan base, I'm loved there.
Jimmy
Have you seen the John Pinata?
Katie Nolan
No.
Chris
Houston bar made a pinata of me and auctioned it off.
Katie Nolan
Oh, that's great. Is that because they like you or because they want to hit you with a stick?
Chris
You know, I haven't figured that out.
Katie Nolan
Yet, but I think the latter so worth looking into.
Chris
You know, it was the latter, but I think Houston is good for that.
Katie Nolan
Capricorn Moon.
Jimmy
Wow.
Katie Nolan
We're getting to the end here. Capricorn Moon seeks long term success in all relationships and collaborations. They always want long term success. They're not sensitive. They don't feel a lot, but when they do, it's an important signal to them. They are goal oriented, orderly, dependable, but can sometimes be pessimistic.
Jimmy
I kind of like this one for Milwaukee.
Katie Nolan
Talk through it.
Chris
Yeah. Or the Yankees.
Katie Nolan
What? Yeah.
Chris
Well, long term success. The Yankees have went the longest without losing season. Even though at sometimes probably better. Like what your Red Sox did to tank and get last place.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Because that sets you up better for winning.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Which again, he's. Have not done. Because they are just stubborn on long term success. And not.
Katie Nolan
I would say that's. If you were. If you're focused on long term success, you would be willing to sacrifice.
Chris
Yeah. Sustained long term success. I don't know if that was.
Jimmy
I guess that's. That's where I was doing Milwaukee. They've had pretty good regular winning.
Chris
Yeah.
Jimmy
When they see something they like, they do lock it up, which they've done. Yelich. Cheerio. And there was another word in there, but again, I told after three, I just get overwhelmed.
Katie Nolan
Reserved, disciplined, pessimistic.
Jimmy
Yeah. They play their own thing.
Katie Nolan
Not sensitive.
Jimmy
They like, don't think they're gonna win.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that's pessimistic, Right? Yeah.
Chris
And I don't think they're that sensitive of a fan base. No, they've never like Gone on us or they never attack us.
Jimmy
They. They do their thing and they're kind of okay with it. Like, yeah, we've kind of got a winning product.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Jimmy
Most nights end with a W. What more do we want in Milwaukee?
Katie Nolan
Aquarius Moon. Now, these folks, Aquarius Moon, they're inventive and independent race. They are progressive.
Chris
Not the Rays.
Katie Nolan
The greater good is more important. They're about building community. They put their values before their emotions.
Chris
This is a Midwest team. This is like. This is like the Cardinals or the Royals. Royals. Yeah. The Royals aren't allowed to masturbate.
Katie Nolan
Sorry.
Jimmy
Thank you for tuning in.
Chris
We'll be back. Thanks for having us. The Royals owner is, like, anti masturbation or something like that. Like, he did a whole presentation on it.
Katie Nolan
Asked him.
Chris
No one.
Jimmy
I think that's over. I think he's out.
Chris
He's out.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Chris
So they're cool now.
Jimmy
Yeah. Oh, we're.
Katie Nolan
I hope that's why.
Chris
Yeah, because they were like family values and so I think he gave a presentation.
Katie Nolan
A presentation about not jerking off.
Jimmy
To. How many ball players have you met? 18 to 30. I mean, how do you think they'd respond to this?
Katie Nolan
McGuire.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
He couldn't help himself.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
At a Dollar Tree.
Chris
What was he gonna do? He had a parking lot.
Katie Nolan
I mean, I loved that. The cop was like, you got roommates? And he was like, no. Or he said, I do, but that's not why I'm here. She's like, well, just take the excuse, Reese. Just go. Yeah.
Jimmy
Got a roommate's bell.
Katie Nolan
I had to get out of the house to do it, but instead he was like, I do, but it's. They let me. This is. Actually, I'm here because I like doing it.
Jimmy
That's a tough moment.
Chris
Exhibition.
Katie Nolan
Is he on a team or is he.
Chris
He was last year round. He got in a fight with Cal Quantrell. Yeah, Cal Quantrell. You screamed at him as he walked off the mountain. You jerked off in a parking lot.
Katie Nolan
He did. He said that?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Interesting. Interesting. Anyway, I got sidetracked.
Chris
That was, like, 10 years ago, dude.
Katie Nolan
The Aquarius Moon. What are we saying was the Royals. The greater good's more important. They're quirky. They're thinkers and dreamers. They're progressive.
Chris
They are now. So if we're doing right now. Yeah. They just revamped their whole analytics approach.
Katie Nolan
Okay, great.
Chris
Yeah. Midwest Villages, Royals.
Katie Nolan
All right. Pisces Moon. It's the last one. Pisces Moon. This better ring true. They are idealistic and intuitive. They can Be dreamy, off in their own world.
Chris
Sometimes angels.
Katie Nolan
They are otherworldly, creative.
Jimmy
No, no.
Katie Nolan
And deeply spiritual, rarely judgmental. Oh, old souls.
Chris
Oh.
Jimmy
What was all that before?
Chris
All of that was Diamondbacks, and. But I don't know if they're old souls, but, like, they are creative and kind of like doing. You would not expect them to be able to pull off what they've been pulling off.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And. And all of a sudden, you take a step back and you're like, whoa. Diamondbacks run a really good team.
Jimmy
Lately, I've wanted to get the Diamondbacks involved in this, and this was the. I heard it was the last one, so my brain was kind of set on them either way. But I don't know how much of it truly lies.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I mean, that's kind of the thing with most horoscope stuff. Right. Is you just force it.
Jimmy
You just want to believe, so you.
Katie Nolan
Just have to tuck it. You could say, all right, escapist. That's the diamond. That'd be a great Diamondbacks fan, because.
Chris
We didn't say any of the AL west teams besides the Astros. Like the Rangers, Mariners, Angels.
Jimmy
There was a couple Mariners fits there. I guess we're. We might be too close to the situation in the fact that like. Like one of. One of the early ones was, like, Seattle, but it was like, it ended with optimistic. And that fan base has been so beat down.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Because they have been.
Katie Nolan
Yes. But I like them as people. They're interest. They're good to interact with if they aren't mean.
Chris
If they had a mean stretch. But they're over it now.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
If they went to the ALCS in 2018.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Like, that whole fan base would. Would be delightful. And it's, like, kind of a fun product. There's a lot of good baseball players, but it just hasn't happened.
Katie Nolan
I know.
Jimmy
Yeah. Oh, I think it was the first one because you said travel, too, and they're, like, the most isolated.
Katie Nolan
Oh, yeah. That was the one. Sagittarius.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
The one that I kind of forced into being the Athletics. It's my fault.
Jimmy
It's all right.
Katie Nolan
I'm really sorry.
Jimmy
It's not.
Katie Nolan
I really hijacked that.
Jimmy
It's very Libra son of you.
Chris
They should be called, like, the Anywhere Athletics. They should have done something creative.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I don't. I don't like the ass on the scoreboard. It doesn't seem right at all.
Chris
But if they tried to force it, like, everyone hates you already.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
So force. Like, Anywhere Athletics. You can be anywhere and root for us.
Katie Nolan
Right. They really should have leaned into that.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
It should also be illegal to move a team without the first brick of the stadium you're trying to move them to being laid. I don't think you should be allowed to let your stadium lease expire without having a guarantee of a home.
Chris
What if you put in years and years of fake effort?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, good argument, but I still think. No. Yeah. I still don't think that should be allowed. It still strikes me as against the rules.
Jimmy
We got two minor league ballparks going on this year.
Katie Nolan
Wild, but kind of cool place to see a game. This is what happens when I know this.
Chris
What happened?
Katie Nolan
Coyotes.
Chris
I said that. And everyone told me I was a scab. And look, I'm not.
Katie Nolan
I'm already led with that. I don't support that. This is happening.
Chris
Have you watched any of the games? Sacramento looks like an awesome time. It looks now. Tampa. That looks awful.
Katie Nolan
No.
Chris
Like not a good time.
Katie Nolan
No. And also being a part of the press at Sacramento seems miserable. They have them in like a shed for their. It's a nightmare. Facilities are bad. But if that's the reality and you're in the area, it might be a fun time to go see a game.
Chris
I'm. I'm. I mandate berms at all all parks in the future. The grass berms that you can sit like a little picnic area for the family.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Those are very nice to see. When you see people just kind of like lounging and sitting, it makes you go.
Katie Nolan
I'd go to a game.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
I'd bring a blanket, lay it down, eat a sandwich.
Chris
There should be like a 50 person capacity berm at every stadium. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Why not?
Chris
Williamsport style. Cut the back legs.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. What?
Chris
Little League World Series. You ever seen that?
Katie Nolan
Yes. Cut the back legs is why I got confused.
Jimmy
Cut the back legs.
Katie Nolan
I get it.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
I get it.
Chris
They're proud. Proud people in Williamsport.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Maybe.
Katie Nolan
Maybe we think for two weeks. I don't know. Did that segment bomb or do we think it was fine?
Jimmy
Yes.
Chris
We got some great answers.
Katie Nolan
I. Look, I'm just trying to help people use different methods to discern who their teams are. You know, Jimmy, Jake, that's it. That's. That's casuals. Tell people where they can find you and what you want them to do about it.
Chris
Just like a look around. Shout, help me find.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Jimmy
Upper East.
Chris
I take the train. So I'm usually walking from Penn to our office at around 9:25.
Katie Nolan
This is male privilege.
Jimmy
YouTube.
Katie Nolan
My son says you guys are ridiculous.
Chris
My son says YouTube. Been trying to get him to stop.
Jimmy
Check us out on YouTube.
Chris
So YouTube and all the other places you find stuff.
Katie Nolan
Stuff, yeah.
Chris
Media and talking.
Katie Nolan
Jake, that's an M, not an N. Yeah, like tomboy. Right? J with a J. Thank you guys for being here and for helping us figure out who we should root for and why. Baseball rules.
Jimmy
I wanted to delay. Thank you. You introduced me to the Four Nations Hockey, and it was after we met and then you posted it on your Instagram story.
Katie Nolan
Oh, yeah.
Jimmy
I wasn't going to watch this, but now I am. And then, like, the Internet was talking about it and I was one of the first people, so I was really excited about that.
Katie Nolan
You're welcome.
Chris
We chose to root for. Sweet reading.
Jimmy
Well, rising Libra.
Katie Nolan
That's such a Libra. Moon. Pisces moon of you to do.
Jimmy
Yeah, it's just me.
Katie Nolan
It's fun.
Chris
I did. Usa.
Jimmy
Come on.
Chris
Thank you.
Katie Nolan
Okay, you guys, that's it for the podcast. Chris, we do not have. What are we watching this week?
Brady
NBA playoffs. NHL playoffs.
Katie Nolan
That's it. You guys have to look it up. Brady is so mad at how long this podcast is running. I'm not even going to tell you how to email us or call us. You got to go back to the beginning of the episode if you want that. Or you can look in the description. I think they put it there. Thank you so much for listening to casuals. We love you so much. I'm sorry this was such a long episode, but we have a lot to say. We just really can't help but say it. We love you. We mean it. We'll see you on Thursday. Bye.
