Isabella
No, I didn't.
Katie Nolan
And Chet Holmgren, his teammate, also on the Oklahoma City Thunder, worl that's exactly.
Isabella
What he looks like.
Katie Nolan
Worl you do? Are you being sarcastic?
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
But he does have a memorable face. I feel like it was there was A possibility. Right. Alice Crusoe's bald. Yes, that. Yes. You know Alex Crusoe. Cause he's the one I get irrationally angry at and I'm kind of mean about, and then I immediately feel bad and I apologize. He got married. Congratulations to him. Chet Holmgren wore a white suit.
Isabella
Oh, you know, I don't like that.
Katie Nolan
I don't like that at all. Upstage the bride is.
Isabella
Yeah, what the heck? That's also kind of even more aggressive because it's like, it wasn't a woman who did it. It was like, why are you showing up in a white suit?
Katie Nolan
I just thought that was crazy. A man wearing a white suit to a wedding. It's like, excuse me, have you ever lived in a society?
Isabella
Yeah. He either doesn't know, like, any of the rules at a wedding, or, I don't know. He just did and was like, I don't care. I'm gonna be the star. Sorry.
Katie Nolan
Which is worse? Probably the second one, but honestly, maybe the.
Isabella
Maybe the first one.
Katie Nolan
How do you not know? How do you not know? Learn to make toast.
Isabella
In a toaster oven.
Katie Nolan
Yes. It's. The buttons are labeled. Hi. Hello. Fun. Fun. Mic work. Do you think that'll pick up? That picks up on the mic, right? You can tell I'm doing. I'm so far away.
Chris
I'll fix it all in post.
Katie Nolan
Thank you so much, Chris. Hi. Welcome to Casuals. It's a sport. Oh, now my dog's coming. Hi, Myrtle. I don't. It's a sports podcast with a dog in the room. That's the podcast we are today. I'm your host, Katie Nolan. This is my dog Myrtle. You can't see her, so don't worry. I know it's an audio medium. It's not even on camera. And that's Isabella, and that's Isabella doing. If I may, an offensive. An offensive impression of my dog. I'm here with the casualties, Isabella and Chris. No Brady today. Brady's on vacation.
Isabella
Whatever.
Katie Nolan
Too good for us, I guess.
Chris
Choosing family over us.
Katie Nolan
I mean, insane. Insane. If you want to email the podcast, we're casuals with Katie nolanmail.com. our voicemail is 646-801-0043. On IG and TikTok, we are casuals. The podcast. Lots to get into today. I don't know who once said that August and the summer is a slow time for sports, but that person's proven to be a real asshole. Because there is so much to talk about, I fear. Do you see her now? Just wandering the basement. I fear that there's going to be this. We're going to have a three hour podcast. So in the interest of just getting into it, we're just going to jump right into it. We're going to call this the Yap. But I'm really not going to yap on this that long because this is maybe one of the saddest stories I've read in recent memory. I read it this weekend on ESPN.com it is a story by Dan Wetzel and I really can't encourage you enough to read it. There it is a story about a scam that is happening online that is largely targeting high school athletes because of how important their online presence is and their reputation to their future success. They're being targeted by scammers who pretend to be a young woman who's flirting with them. And they then eventually get a naked photo of the athlete. And once they have that athlete, they blackmail them for money with it. Kids are killing themselves at an alarming rate. It's very scary, the numbers. And I'm getting choked up just thinking about it. So that's why we're gonna move on from this very quickly. I think it's an important story. It's really hard to read. It's very upsetting. But if you can handle reading it, I think you need to read it. This sounds like something that's a real problem, that the only way to get it fixed or to work towards fixing it is to acknowledge that it's happening and to spread awareness about it. So the story is called the Predatory Web of Sextortion Increasingly ensnares young Athletes. Oh my God. It's. It's bleak and it's scary. It's like I'm trying to think of the specific word I'm looking for to describe the feeling that this gave. It was like a gloomy. I felt horrified putting myself in the shoes of parents who had no idea that in a matter of hours some scammer managed to convince their kid their life was over to the point where they took their life. It's really awful. And it is a sports story because it's affecting young athletes. And there's a lot of stuff affecting young athletes. And I have always tried to use this platform to speak up, to make sure that we're taking care of them because they're the people we're going to be rooting for when we get older. So it's time to do something about this. Please go read this story. I don't really want to talk about it, because I already feel so sad. And that's not the point of this podcast, but I do want to offer Chris and Isabella, if there was something that you wanted to say in regards to this story, I wanted to let you do that, but also am happy to move us on.
Isabella
It's awful. I mean, it's. Yeah, that's it.
Chris
Yeah. Like, as, as a father as well, like, you can't help but, you know, think about your kids being involved with something like this and, and you know, how your life as a parent can change so quickly and it's just, it's, it's devastating. And you could do all that you could possibly hope to do to prepare your kids for something like this or to make sure they're not going to get in this situation, but the truth is you're never really going to be able to protect them 100%. They're going to, you know, they're going to succumb to these sort of things every now and then. You know what I mean? And you just, sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. You just have to hope and pray that they don't, you know, come across the wrong person. Because we've seen what devastating circumstances can come of, you know, talking with the wrong person at the wrong time. So, you know, thoughts with all those families and let's hope that this becomes less and less of an occurrence.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
As we find out more about it.
Katie Nolan
They. They caught the guys who did this specific one. The sentence is, is less than it should be by a lot because I think things get murky legally when you get into the Internet and liability for something like that. But they caught the guy. It was amazing how they caught them. Very smart. I like to see a story where they follow a lead and they chase something down and they catch a guy in a smart way. But a very well written story, a very important story, and a story that you're gonna wish you didn't read. But you gotta read it. It's by Dan Wetzel. It's on ESPN.com the predatory web of sextortion increasingly ensnares young athletes. Yikes. McGykes. May we please move on? Because like I said, a lot of sports, sports, sports stuff to get to. They'll get mad if you say the mlb. MLB has ever had that. And mls they will. They get so mad. They're like, it's not the Major League Soccer. Okay, so the, the first.
Isabella
Sorry.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, they don't care if you're sorry, you're wrong. You just Congratulations. You just set women back. MLB first female umpire. Very exciting stuff. A lot of fanfare about this this weekend, which, you know, always fun as a woman when the sport finally does something that's like, hey, women are included in this. The just kind of deal with the backlash of that for a weekend couple. Like a week ago, the Red Sox did something Called Women's Celebration. I don't know what. Why, but they did and had an all female booth. And the. It just was like an unfun weekend. What should have been a celebration as a woman for me was mostly just dealing with people being sexist online about how much they hated it and hated women. And this is why women shouldn't be able to do this. So sometimes these things backfire and it really sucks. Jen Powell. This weekend was not that. And. And I got swept up in it. I was emotional. I had known this was going to happen again. I was a little like, oh, here we go. They're going to say. But she did a prep. They did a press conference before her game and it was her with the. Her crew chief, Chris Guccione. I, I believe it might be Guccioni. I bet, you know, in, in Italy it was probably Guccione. But sometimes you get over here and you just go Guccion. So I. It. That's he.
Chris
I will say in Australia it is Guccioni as well.
Katie Nolan
Oh, wow. Well, but we just learned earlier everything.
Isabella
How do we say Luigi's last name? Do we say Luigi Mangio?
Katie Nolan
Mangioni. I thought. But I don't know. But you know what? We're gonna know soon. I feel like they're gonna say it a lot, but I think. Aren't we saying Mangioni?
Isabella
I've been saying Mangione. Yeah. So then. Okay, yeah, so that's it.
Katie Nolan
Now we've said it. So now everybody knows. That's the record. There was a press conference with the two of them. Chris the Gooch. That's what we're gonna start calling him now. The Gooch and Jen Powell. I was watching the whole clip. He's basically saying, like, this is the coolest thing in my career. I've been a part of and I've been a part of World Series. This is. He's like the, the, the gravity of the moment kind of hits him while they're getting ready to go do the game. And it's really sweet to watch him say, and Isabella, I want you to watch. It's a minute clip so we don't have to do the whole thing but like skip your cursor to about like, I don't know, 40 seconds into the clip. And let's just watch the last 20 seconds because there's a moment. Oh, yeah, okay. Chris will do it. There's a moment where just at the end. That's really sweet. That I think you'll like.
Chris
When Rich told me Rich reeker told me a couple weeks ago. I could not wait for this day. It was, like, just dragging. So this is a special moment. I'm so proud of her. She does an incredible job. She's an incredible person and likes to have fun, works hard. So this.
Katie Nolan
This.
Chris
It's huge. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. Yeah. You're awesome.
Isabella
Aw, that's so sweet.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God. That little moment. He finishes talking and she turns, and just, like, she's quiet for a second, she turns and just says, thank you. Like, she's like, genuinely, like, thank you. And he just turns to her and says, yeah, you're welcome. You're awesome. It broke me. I was sobbing on the couch. And I just wanted to say, all you, as a father of a daughters, could never. This is what a father of daughters looks like. Like, right, Brady? No, I mean, the people who invoke, like, a father of a daughter. I would never. And you're like, no, that's not. That's not it. This is what it looks like. This is how you do it. You show up and you say, like, this is cool. She's worked her ass off. Because she has. Like, people love to. This is the thing about these people that are always like, dei. It's like, do you realize that all you're doing, it's. You have no idea about the person. You have truly boiled it down to if they're a woman or if they're a person of color. They couldn't have earned their job. That's where it's. Racism. They don't understand. Like. And sexism. That's where they don't get it. You're skipping an important step, which is look into the person. Did they work really hard to get here? Okay, then shut up, because you can't. You. Anyway, I'm getting carried away. She worked her way up through the minor leagues. She's been. She did her. Whatever they make them do, like, 1200 games or something. She got the call because it was time for her to get the call. It was very cool to watch and hilarious that when the second game, she was behind the plate, she's calling balls and strikes. The first pitch, obviously a ball. She calls it a strike. That is so funny. I wish that would take the, like, tension out of the room the way that it should, because we hate umps. We hate umps. I've never liked an ump. I'm happy there's finally a female ump, but I'm not, like, she's my favorite ump. I hate umps. Ump suck Umps get things wrong. Umps are human. Like, we're only gonna have human umps for a few more years. Theoretically, it does seem the robots are coming for all of our jobs, but pretty publicly, they're coming for ump's jobs. So finally at the buzzer, we let a woman do it, and she gets one wrong. She had a great night. Other than that, it was like one or two bad calls. That's average for an ump. It's not bad. And, like, it's. Instead, I'm watching people point to that and go, like, proof women shouldn't be. I'm like, how stupid are you? How perfect does somebody need to be as a woman or as a non white person? How perfect do they have to be for you to go, well, I guess they did earn it. As if. If that first pitch were a strike, everybody would go, wow, she knows what she's talking about. No, there would never be. You'd still look for something and then you'd find it and go see proof that I don't hate women. This woman's bad. Go Jen Powell. It was very fun to watch. Shout out to Chris the Gooch Guccione. My Gucci. My Gucci man. He rules. That ruled. It made me cry. Also, she went to Hofstra. Shout out. Hofstra alum. Out here doing it. That's where I went to college. That's where I went to schooling. I have a degree.
Isabella
I graduated here that. You did softball at Hofstra.
Katie Nolan
I didn't. She did. I didn't.
Chris
She did.
Katie Nolan
I could. I wish, I wish. My career, though illustrious, it ended. I was on travel teams. Like, I did play softball, but I didn't play it that well. I got on base. I let off. I was a leadoff hitter and a pitcher. And I could switch bunt, kind of, but I couldn't switch it. But I could, like, drag and slap from the left side, but not great. And that's how. And that's. And I could throw a curveball, kind of. I had a nasty change up. That was just. I. I just didn't spin the ball at all. It wasn't like, the right way to throw one, but it's how I threw one. And I liked it. And it was fun to watch people swing at it because it was so slow. It was like, too slow because I wasn't fast. And then I had a drop curve quote, unquote. Like, I let people tell me to, like, catchers tell me to throw that, but I was faking it. I had no Idea the difference between the drop.
Isabella
Sure.
Katie Nolan
I was like, yeah, I'll just.
Isabella
I'll just drop curve this real quick.
Katie Nolan
I'm kind of just winging it at every. By the time the ball gets to my hip, what my wrist does is not really any of my business. So we'll see what happens. So it wasn't very good, but I did play.
Chris
When I played baseball, I had three pitches. I'm pretty confident none of them looked any different. But my catcher would always just like, appease me and go, yeah, all right. Throw your four seamer, throw your two seamer. Throw your change up. And I would grip it differently. But I'm pretty confident that ball didn't move any differently whenever I threw it.
Katie Nolan
Right, it's like, yeah, that's what I threw.
Chris
Yeah. You want my change up? Okay. Yes.
Katie Nolan
All right. So from baseball, let's move to NFL preseason. Now, listen, we haven't been doing a lot of NFL talk. I feel like previous iterations of a podcast hosted by Katie Nolan would be deeper into football by now, but I just wasn't ready. I felt like preseason started way too early this year. I'm sure it's exactly when it was supposed to. I'm sure this is a me problem, not a time space continuum problem. I'm sure it's going exactly how it's supposed to. Something's different with me. Me. I just wasn't ready. Okay. But when I realized or heard that Shador Sanders was going to start for the Browns, and I was like, oh, that logically, actually. Because the thing about preseason, Isabella, is it's technically football, right? And it's football for a. A football starved public people who are like, I miss football. So it technically is football, but it is like practice football. And so you're not really ever going to see the stars like the quarterback that if you have one decided or like the. Your star receivers and running backs, they're not doing a lot of playing in preseason because football is a very taxing sport on your body and you would hate to lose a player that you need before the season even starts. So they barely play. They'll play like a drive or something in a. In one or two of the games. But Shador Sanders, the Browns have like 9,000 quarterbacks, and Shador Sanders was a. Remember fifth. He dropped to the fifth round of the draft. He was supposed to. Everybody thought he was going to go in the first, and then he just kept dropping and it was shocking when he went in the fifth round. So I was like, oh, this is the quarterback, technically, who would play the preseason games that far down the depth chart, we're gonna actually see him play. And so I was really excited because one of the things I've realized I love about sports are these sort of like storylines you see repeated throughout history that are involved with basically the circumstances that lead to this moment. So, like, Shador Sanders is a son of an absolute legend. So he has his father's name, a recognizable notable name. So eyes were on him. He was also incredibly talented, but he's also very, you know, he's his father's son. He's very confident. He's, you know, perceived as cocky. He. A lot of people love to say, and there's a racial element to it. Let's not pretend there's not. There's a lot of people that say he needs to be humbled. And then he was. The draft happened. He was live streaming for that. He got prank called and fell for it. Like, it's. Those are humbling experiences. And now here he is, and everyone's gonna be watching because everybody wants to see what this kid's gonna do. And I was like, this is one of the things I love about sports is like, who shows up tonight? Because me, I don't do. I don't do so well with pressure like that. I feel like for me, I'd be like, I'm gonna just forget how to football. Like this is. Everybody thinks I suck. I can't prove them right. In. In the lens of that. How fun was it watching Shador Sanders play in a preseason game? I was having fun. He was having fun. He wasn't. It wasn't like an award winning performance, but through the lens of like, this kid knew. He was basically this man. Sorry. Knew that he was showing up and had to prove himself. And he did. He looked great. The crowd was electric. Now, a negative to the story is Cleveland does not deserve to have this type of fun. You've screwed up the quarterback position. I hate watching you experience joy because I hate that you paid to Sean Watson as much money as you paid him. But if Shador Sanders is good, then what happens does. Do they still have to pay desean Watson all that money? Where does he go? What does he. What happens to him?
Isabella
Where are these preseason games being showed?
Katie Nolan
On the NFL Network. They're on tv. We love football. Isabella, you have yet to experience this podcast during football season.
Isabella
I know you are.
Katie Nolan
When you guys, when you texted the.
Isabella
Group chat the other day, it was like, oh, Shador Sanders may be nasty. I was like, as in good or like he didn't wash his hands, like, didn't know the context of what was.
Katie Nolan
Going on, which Brady. We should voice Brady's opinion. Brady said it's just the preseason. He's playing against a backup defense, which, like, yeah, sure, I'm not, I'm not saying like crown the kid. Like, I'm just saying, like, why do I keep saying the kid? It's because he's from college. I need to stop doing that. I'm not saying he's like the greatest guy that's ever walked the earth. It's just like, it was fun. I thought that was crazy pressure. People would have loved if he sucked. And if he sucked, that wouldn't be the be all, end all either. It's one game. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Couldn't matter less. Preseason means nothing. But I just thought in a moment like that it was cool to see. Kyle Brandt did make a really good point that I saw is like one of the. And I'm here not gonna remember the kid, the guy's name, but. But one of the passes that he threw that was impressive, was actually an incredibly impressive catch as well. And the catcher is a rookie and nobody's talking about that. And he was like, we need to be talking about this person as well. And now I'm like kind of doing the right thing, but doing the wrong thing because I'm not saying what the person's name is. And that's the whole point of the story. And I'm trying to buy time while I scroll and look for this name, but I don't think it's convincing. I think everybody knows that I don't know it and it's taking me kind of a while to find it. Now, if a better host were here, they could be doing this. But I am me. And I've tried to change, trust me, in many different ways. It's not going to happen. Luke Floria, he had a one handed catch and he also deserves his flowers. So shout out to Luke. Shout out to Shador. That was fun. It made me care about preseason football. And now if it's okay with everybody, I'm gonna go back to not caring about preseason football. I just, it's just injury central. I guess the only other preseason football thing that I care about that I do kind of want to mention. Did you see Matthew Stafford? He is. Isabelle. Matthew Stafford is like, he's old, he's older, he's like 37, question mark.
Isabella
That's younger than you.
Katie Nolan
Okay. All right.
Chris
I don't think he is 37.
Katie Nolan
37. He's. It's old for the club, not for the earth. Oh.
Isabella
I was like, damn, Katie, he's football old.
Katie Nolan
He still has not played or practiced for the Rams, but the team is continuing to claim that he is their quarterback. He will be playing. He's like a back injury that he's working through. And everybody's like, where is he? Why isn't he practicing? Why is he in street clothes? What's going on? Yesterday I saw a post on Blue Sky. Have we come up with what the verb is yet for that? Chris, is that social media that you find acceptable?
Chris
No, it's fine. I don't use it, but it's fine. It really does better than other options.
Katie Nolan
It has. It's. It's in its era. And Twitter went through this too. It's in the. This feels like a conference era. It's just like a, like, oh, cool. It's like enthusiastic where you're like, all right.
Chris
Yeah, there's definitely a supportive.
Katie Nolan
It's a little dorky right now.
Chris
Frequent that. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
But it's also got good stuff. And one of the good stuffs is this is this post. It's from Adam Gross Bard. He is a Rams beat writer for LA Daily News and the OC Register. He says, Matthew Stafford walked into this. A mortal chamber. A mortal advertises itself as a, quote, wellness device that aims to optimize human performance and promote holistic health through a combination of non invasive technologies. End quote. He is not practicing today. So I'm like, what is that? It looks like a big, I don't know, like a trailer. Like a metal trailer. It's called ammortal. Which is weird because immortal, right. Means you aren't mortal, which means you last forever. And amoral means that you don't have morals. So ammortal almost sounds like you never had life in the first place.
Isabella
Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't know what you're not living.
Katie Nolan
Trying to say, but immortal you ain't living.
Isabella
That's exactly how I perceive it.
Katie Nolan
So I go to their website to be like, what the hell are they selling? Because this happens every now and then in New York City. I'll be walking Myrtle, and sometimes we'll go in a different route. Or like, Dan and I will be walking to something that's like, on a different subway. I go to, like, a different street and I'll notice these businesses that look like nothing. They almost look like salons, but there's no, like, chairs or mirrors or anything. It's just like empty. And they've got really sleek branding and it says like forever life. And you go what's this? And then I google them because I'm like, what is happening? And a lot of them are like, extend your life, live longer with proven practice. And I'm like, damn. People are opening like brick and mortar eternal sunshine of the spotless mind places like what do you mean? How do you not have to have a license to tell me that I can come in here and that'll make me live. What are we doing? But anyway, this kind of stuff fascinates me. So I go to their website and wow it. So it's like a. It looks like a tanning bed almost.
Isabella
As I say, this looks like red light treatment.
Katie Nolan
So it's basically light therapy mixed with vibro acoustic sound therapy which I guess promotes relaxation and well being. They have multi wave pulsed electromagnetic fields. I don't really know what that means. And look, I suppose it's possible in the future we figure out what. How electromagnetic affects us and. And we sound stupid now. The way we look back at people who used to think smell bad smells were how you would get sick. And we hear that now and we go, you moron, you thought a fart could give you the flu. That doesn't make any sense. But maybe people look back on me saying like oh, it's got electromagnetic. And they're like lady, that is how we cured cancer. You just don't know it yet. So maybe may, but right now I need you to give me more info on what you know to make me go, yeah, this is worth. And I'm gonna tell you there's a price tag on here. Shout out to ammortal for that, I guess.
Isabella
Wait, and what are they doing?
Katie Nolan
Like what's actually don't give you price tags. And they do. I'm gonna, we'll get there. You also put on a breathing tube. Like you know, I hate to say, I was just gonna say the ones you see most often in retirement homes under your nose, right? And you're inhaling molecular hydrogen. What's that? Isn't all hydrogen a molecule?
Isabella
That's what I thought as well.
Katie Nolan
How can this one be molecular?
Isabella
Maybe it's like multiple hydrogen and it.
Katie Nolan
Becomes like isn't that water? If you put two of them with a little oxygen, isn't that water?
Isabella
This has. It sounds like there's no oxygen with it.
Katie Nolan
This says molecular hydrogen, also known as hydrogen gas therapy or hydrogen inhalation therapy has gained attention in recent years for its numerous potential health. Potential health benefits as a powerful antioxidant. And then they cite a study I'm not going to click on and anti inflammatory. Another word that I hear a lot that I'm like, and I need that. Why? But I guess if you're hurt and you're the quarterback of the Rams and you're supposed to start this year, then maybe that's why you've. Because you need to. You will do anything to get back out there. So they bought him and I guess they have now said the team has said this isn't just for him. It's for everybody on the team. It's available to everyone on the team. But they bought this chamber. It's zero gravity. Also, I don't. I think my. Is that the same as zero G? My bed does that. I don't know. I think that's what.
Isabella
0G.
Katie Nolan
I don't know. That's what my. It's what the. Whatever. Let me get you the price tag. Over 3, 000 raving fans. Do you want me to read you some reviews before we get to the price tag?
Isabella
Yeah. Tell me. Tell me if I should have.
Katie Nolan
It was like having a week's sleep and you shouldn't get it. I'll still read you the review. Reviews, but you shouldn't get it. It was like having a week's sleep in 22 minutes. When I woke up, I thought, wow, where have I been? It was a magical experience. Well, where have you been? What if they drugged you and took you out of there?
Isabella
I was gonna say, you know, like, take an edible before bed, like, and I'll be the same experience.
Katie Nolan
Yes. Try smoking weed and then go to sleep. It was mind blowing. This is from Brian A. Never could have expected that. The whole experience was transcendent. Felt rejuvenated and in a much higher state of being. Mood elevated and just an overall sense of peace and energy. Absolutely loved it. Three exclamation points. Now that I've done that, how can I ever start my day without it? Hey, buddy. You sound like you just did drugs for the first time. I hate to tell you. You sound like a guy who tried a little bit of heroin.
Isabella
This doesn't sound good. How can you start your day without it?
Katie Nolan
How am I supposed to live without this? An overall sense of energy and peace. I loved it. Give me more. Let me have it. Esther says it was great. I went in with pain in my lower back and I walked out with no pain and feeling light. Okay, this is proving my theory that most people get three reviews deep before they make the decision that they were already gonna make. They were just looking for backup. The Rams read that review and went. Walked in with pain in her lower back. Walked out with no pain. We have to buy this because that's exactly what Stafford's going through. Let me look at this price here. Order. Now, if I click that the ammortal chamber. Deposit. Deposit is. Oh, okay. So it's $159,000 and 500. How do you say that? $159,500. How do you say that?
Chris
159,500.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, okay. Dollars. $159,500. I hate that. Why was that so hard for me?
Chris
Great question.
Katie Nolan
I think I have to go back to school. It's that much money. Financing is available with payments as low as $3,000 a month. Secure your chamber with a $15,950 deposit. So it's 10%. That's a. Okay. Amortal will follow up for final payment and install details. That's crazy. But one thing I haven't mentioned yet. It is endorsed by goop. It has goop's seal of approval. Gwyneth Paltrow said.
Isabella
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. And if you didn't know, I said, apparently they use ancient wisdom.
Katie Nolan
Who does?
Isabella
In the creation of it. It says combining ancient wisdom and like other things. Let me see.
Katie Nolan
Oh, it says our team has.
Isabella
Our team has curated best in class technologies and proven modalities pairing cutting edge science with ancient wisdom and therapies. They don't say which ancient wisdom or.
Katie Nolan
No, but just know it's ancient or modalities. I here's. I'm at. I've reached the point maybe this is just me. Let me not make a sweeping statement. I've reached a point where if I went to this website and it said red light therapy supposed to make you whatever anti gravity position supposed to. If it just said what it did, I'd go. That I'm into. When it does this whole, like we've combined the wisdom of the ancients with the technology of the future. It's like, I'm out. You're scamming me. What is this? $159,000. I need to buy a house. I can't be giving you this for this.
Isabella
Yeah. And that's part two.
Katie Nolan
And it almost just like kind of maybe makes me feel better. I don't know. Maybe I'll just buy the molecular hydrogen and mainline it with a sun lamp in a Tanning bed with my knees up. Are they still doing tanning beds?
Chris
We were, we saw a house on Zillow the other day that one of the photos in the house was just a room with a tanning bed.
Katie Nolan
Damn. That's. I mean we went really through a phase there. We had. We. My high school experience was very tan. I. You know, it is what it is. Then I went to Long island and I was like, it is the culture here. You. This is required.
Chris
But you know, by the way, can I go back to something that you asked maybe 20 minutes ago now about what a Blue sky post is called? Blue sky calls it a post simply. But the unofficial term is esquite.
Katie Nolan
I don't, I can't endorse that. Esquite.
Chris
Esquite.
Isabella
So if you, if you posted a skeet, did you. You skeeted?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. You surely did. And if you re skeet, you took someone else's skeet and shared it with your friends. That's where I encounter an issue. The wnba. Big WNBA news. The Valkyrie. I don't know if you guys noticed, but over the last week there was an egg, an ominous egg in the stadium. We didn't know what it was or what it was going to be. Lots of mystery surrounding the egg. Well, last night we found out what the egg was because hatched from it. Violet the Raven. That is the Valkyries new mascot. They debuted her last night. Isabella, I don't know if you've seen her yet, but I'd love you to take a look at her and to give me your thoughts. I'm just gonna say up front, she's got glasses and I am living for it.
Isabella
Oh, she's so cute.
Katie Nolan
Obsessed with it.
Isabella
I really like her. Oh my God. It's like round glasses.
Katie Nolan
I know. Thin rimmed round glass. She's so cute. She's got good dance moves, which is crucial. She's not shaped in that stupid funny way, you know, she's not like a goofball. She's cutie pie. I think judging, I tried to skim, skim a little bit of fan reaction to see how Valhalla was feeling about her. I think some people wanted, because of the branding of the Valkyries being so powerful, they wanted like a more powerful mascot. And I could, I could see that. I could see like maybe in the future having like a. One of those human mascot type of things they have where like somebody comes out as like a warrior. That'd be kind of cool school. But I, I don't think, I think that's Projection. I don't think we need Violet to be that. This is for the. For the kids.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Kids need a cutie little mascot to look up to. And ravens are closely tied to Valkyries in terms of like the mythology of it, so it makes sense that way.
Isabella
Oh, cute.
Katie Nolan
She's cute. She's got nearsightedness.
Isabella
Oh, good, good. Not. Not astigmatism.
Katie Nolan
No, no.
Isabella
Can't have that for a mess.
Katie Nolan
No. God, no. Misshapen eyes. I think I am. I think that's what I am. Have. But she kind of looks like Helen Henny from Shout Out. I know they broke up, AKA I think they went out of business. But Chuck E. Cheese's band, the Munches Make Believe Band. Remember Helen Henny? That's kind of who she looks like.
Isabella
I've never seen the Chuck E. Cheese band.
Chris
Neither have I.
Isabella
What?
Katie Nolan
Oh, I had like four consecutive youth birthdays there of my own. I've never had a birthday.
Isabella
Cheese.
Katie Nolan
Cheese. A Chuck E. Cheese birthday.
Isabella
Oh, she's kind of scary.
Katie Nolan
And then once we grew out of Chuck E. Cheese, but yeah, they were very scary. They also were like alive in the dark, but like turned off and then they would like come out and then they would turn on and it was like, yo, I don't think I'm supposed to see life beginning.
Chris
They made a horror movie about.
Isabella
Yeah, yeah, I was gonna say there's a horror movie. And I didn't like that.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's a little spooky. But once I grew out of the ability to have my birthdays at Chuck E. Cheese, we just stopped having birthday parties. So I think I hung on a little longer. I think I was like, no, I'd love to go to Chuck E. Cheese. And then I was at an age where I was like, this sucks. Why are we here? But updating a running story in the wnba? Unfortunately, try as we might, this is still an occurring story. The Dildo Gate. Let me read this NBC News headline from yesterday. 12 year old girl struck by sex toy thrown at WNBA game in Brooklyn. Suspect sought by nypd. So on Friday they released a photo and a short video clip of a man wearing a Beavis and Butthead T shirt and an Ohio State cap at the New York Liberty Dallas Wings game last week in Barclays center in Brooklyn. They say that during Tuesday's game, quote, an unidentified individual threw an object which struck a 12 year old female victim in the right leg. This is obviously part of a larger issue that's currently sweeping across the WNBA. This all started July 29th when a sex toy landed on the floor of a Golden State Valkyries game. Shout out against the Atlanta Dream in College Park, Georgia. There have been similar incidents in Phoenix, Chicago and la. Two men have been arrested in connection with the incidents in Georgia and in Phoenix, which means that Chicago and LA are still out there. And also this introduces for me the layer of this that I thought you couldn't be a bigger loser than to go to a WNBA game, buy a ticket, bring a dildo somehow. I won't even allege how, but you're getting it in there somehow and then throwing it on the court. I thought in honor of a meme coin. I thought, that's the biggest loser you could possibly be. I didn't realize there's another layer of loser.
Isabella
Oh, God.
Katie Nolan
Where you can't even hit the court. You threw it and you hit a kid. You didn't even make it to the floor, you fucking loser. You absolute butthead. You total Beavis. This is an insane. Holy shit. You could not even hit the shot. I think jail for them first is my theory. Jail for all of them probably, eventually. But bring out. Bring out the guys who could not hit the court.
Chris
Which. Which begs the question. They're clearly not very athletically gifted. How did they run away from security and from everyone else? How do you not find these people? They're close enough to the rest of the fans that they can strike someone with the dildo, but they're quick enough and nifty enough to get away without anyone catching them.
Katie Nolan
There's a. That I don't get crazy. There's a BBC article explaining this phenomenon to the British. And I always like to read sources like that because I go, how do they talk about what's happening over here? The BBC article has this quote. The exact number of incidents is unclear because in some instances items are thrown but do not reach the court or the bench. Also from the BBC, so far, two arrests have been made in Atlanta. Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, public indecency, indecent exposure and criminal trespass after he was accused of throwing a sex toy to game on July 29th. WNBA has released a statement about safety. The second arrest was Kaden Lopez, 18, also accused of throwing a sex toy at an Aug. 5 game in Phoenix and hitting a man watching the game on the head.
Isabella
I don't like this.
Katie Nolan
Get in the gym. Get. Go to practice. Kayden.
Isabella
God, I don't like it. It's a really weird way of, like, trying to assert power In a space where, like, you just don't feel.
Katie Nolan
Yes. And in a. In a very. In a very coded way. Yeah, like we said. I believe we said this on the podcast. If not, it was during a meeting. And forgive me, everybody, but it's like the scene in Stepbrothers where the tuxes hit different. Now it's like, once this becomes what it's feeling like it's becoming. It's like, okay, the dildo's not funny anymore. Now it feels purposeful. Now it feels like it's asserting itself in a way that I'm not a huge fan of. So get it together, everybody, or we're throwing pocket pussies at Steph Curry when the NBA season starts up.
Isabella
Oh, lime green.
Katie Nolan
Also, may I just use this time to. Very quickly. I already mad at Beavis and Butthead. They are pissing me off. I was never allowed to watch Beavis and Butthead as a child. My mom was a dictator. I couldn't watch it. I couldn't watch that. I couldn't watch Ren and Stimpy. Wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons. I've been oppressed. Anyway, they are doing a thing in Call of Duty right now where, like, they are. They're doing a Beavis and Butthead event where you can play, like, so they're available as playable characters. And I get it that that's cool for everybody, but the way that they. Specific way they've screwed this up, Call of Duty, is that they. I believe they've made Beavis and Butthead characters you have to pay for. And. But for free, you can get, like, the gym teacher question mark. I never was allowed to watch the show, so I definitely don't know these minor characters. And they're like 2D animated, if that makes any sense. They're like, in the war of the World. Like, we're in an actual war. Theoretically. I'm fighting for my country. Don't ask a follow up, because I don't actually know which country I'm supposed to be fighting for and who we're fighting against. But I know that I'm serving and protecting. And I've got to shoot a cartoon guy in gym shorts who's, like, not of the same world as me. And now I have to shoot him. And he's going to say something from a show that I have no nostalgia for. That. In fact, it reminds me of being left out of a thing. I don't. I'm like, get these people. And then I hear that the guy throwing the dildos was Wearing a Beavis and Butthead shirt and an Ohio state hat. And I'm like, damn, you might as well, like, wear a shirt that said I'm the villain.
Isabella
Mm.
Chris
The only good thing from my point of view that came from Beavis and Butthead was Daria. That was a show that I loved.
Katie Nolan
Me too. That was a spin off.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
See how little she knows about Beavis and Butthead. I am completely in my mom, I hope you're listening. I know you're not. I know you're not. If I'm lucky, dad might. But I know you're not. It worked. I don't know anything about these fucking shows. Ren and Stimpy was just bad timing. There was an episode where he comes out. One of them comes out of the trash can with a fork in their eye. And my mom saw that. She was like, you are not allowed to watch this. And I was like, okay, fine. All right. We're all over the place, but we're rolling. We are rolling. We've got a section here for a new segment, which means that we need a new theme song for injuries that happened that really didn't need to happen. Owie. How's that? We like those. I think that's good. Let's just try it again. This is injuries that happened that really didn't need to happen. Owie. You had one less whomp than last time. You threw me away.
Isabella
Did I?
Katie Nolan
It was a creative decision and I want that for you. So I encourage it. It first one NASCAR driver. Is it Zillish Zillich? Connor Zillich. This is quite possibly the most embarrassed. I've been watching a video. Isabella hasn't seen this yet, so we are going to show it to her in just a second. Connor Zillage, a NASCAR Xfinity series point leader, picked up another win on Saturday. But his celebrations quickly came to an unexpected end when he broke his his collarbone slipping out of his car. The 19 year old driver was climbing onto the roof of his number 88 Chevrolet car to celebrate his latest victory at Watkins Glenn International in New York. But as he attempted to move, his left foot apparently got caught in the window netting. You know how they have those nets that cover the windows one in these race cars. His foot gets caught in that. He then tumbles awkwardly out of the car and took a hard fall onto victory lane. The driver was taken to the trackside medical center and transported to a local hospital and an ambulance for further evaluation. On Saturday evening, he posted, quote, thankfully, CT scans for my head are clear. I Just have a broken collarbone. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention, and grateful it wasn't any worse. End quote. I'm so glad I'm through all of the facts, because the emotions are what come next. This is. I've watched this clip one time, and it starts out cringy, and it gets so much worse, and I couldn't bring myself to watch it a second time. Isabella has not seen it yet, so we are going to watch it now. Okay, so he's trying to get out. Trying to get up on the roof.
Isabella
Mm.
Katie Nolan
Oh, he's up there. Oh. Oh, his foot's caught. And then look at the way he just stops moving. Oh.
Isabella
First of all, he has a million things on his car on the top. Why did he stand up there?
Katie Nolan
I don't know.
Chris
That's how you're supposed to. That's how you get out of a car. And so it's like, all right, I'm halfway there. May as well just have this sort of victory celebration.
Katie Nolan
When does his foot have time to get caught on?
Chris
It's awkward. It looks really awkward. And he just rag dolls onto the floor.
Katie Nolan
I know. The rag doll is the hard part, where you just see him just stop moving. And he just accepts that, like. Yeah. Oh. Oh.
Isabella
And what's funny? Well, not funny. Sorry.
Katie Nolan
No.
Isabella
When he lands, it's just one spot. He doesn't move.
Katie Nolan
He doesn't move. And he's okay. He broke his collarbone, which actually. I mean, that's very painful.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
But I just. I would. I would feel a strong urge to retire. I would be like, you guys, I was just kidding back there.
Isabella
Yeah. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
But I also am, like, like, kind of busy for the next couple decades, so I actually think I'm done. I want to go out on top. I can't show my face around here anymore. I know I'm only 19, but the fact that I tried to get out of my car and I completely ate it.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
In front of everybody.
Chris
Brutal.
Isabella
I would just be like, cut the cameras. Please cut the cameras.
Katie Nolan
It's so stupid. But a comment I saw about somebody said he should have just opened the door. And I know that's not how it works, but it is very funny when all of this happens to just go like, hey, I think next time you should just pop the door open. Oh, my God. So funny. Not funny. So not funny. There's a lot of that this week, you guys.
Chris
Funnier than it could have been.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Yes. He didn't die, so it's okay. Question mark. It's like, there's so much this week of, like, don't laugh at that. Don't laugh at that. And that brings us to our next injury that just didn't need to happen. Owie. Legendary New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera tore one of his Achilles. I love that it says one of his Achilles 10. Yeah, his Achilles tendon is fine, I think. I don't think we have to say one of. We never do. But, yes, it was only one. It was not a simultaneous tear. Can you imagine during the.
Chris
That happened to when I was playing, by the way, really quickly for the SiriusXM softball team a few years ago? I was playing left field and the person playing in center field with me in. I think it was the first inning of the game.
Katie Nolan
What?
Chris
Tore both his Achilles. What in one place?
Katie Nolan
Owie. What do you mean by that?
Chris
How he just stepped on the. Like, I'm gonna divot or something like that. I don't know how he did it, but he just went down. I'm like, oh, I hope he's okay. Next thing, game's called off, ambulance comes to Central Park. He is, like, unable to return to work for, like, a month because he's just. He can't walk.
Isabella
My main question from that is, never heard about SiriusXM doing sports teams. How come no one invited me to that?
Katie Nolan
Not sure if it's Covid.
Chris
Oh, this was back in 2019. 28. Yeah, 2019.
Isabella
I think Pablo's.
Katie Nolan
Pablo's got a. His podcast has a softball team, but Pablo never shows up. They texted me once, they were like, hey, maybe you care about this show? Could you come to this? I was like, oh, I'm not in town. But I wouldn't have anyway. Probably because it's been so long since I've played softball. And I'm also not in shape. And this is. That's what happens to people who aren't in shape. You step into a divot and you. And you tear both of your Achilles tendons at the same time. Not even Achilles had one. Only one was his weakness. That's where we get the name for the. They held him by that and dipped him into the water. 1 Achilles is his weakness, not both.
Chris
If we had a podcast softball team and you didn't show up, then that'd be crazy. We'd have a third of a team. We'd have a third of a lineup.
Katie Nolan
That'd be crazy. Not showing up. What am I, Brady? Hey, Burn. Okay, so Old Timers Day. It's a very funny named. It's also Funny, every time we talk about Old Timers Day, the aforementioned Old Timers go. Maybe we call it something else. You always get one person going, can we not call it it? Old Timers Makes me feel pretty old. But it's their 77th. Old Timers Day was on Saturday. They just recently brought the game back. So they used to play. It's like a two inning, three inning, quote unquote game where you see all these legends from Yankees history put the jersey back on and, like, play a game. They stopped doing it. I think Covid maybe was the initial reason or something like. Like that. And then they brought it back this year and they're also celebrating, commemorating the. What would It Be, the 25th Jesus anniversary of the 2000 World Series that the Yankees won. But the first story that came out of this, Isabella was like, the star of that team, Derek Jeter was like, I'm not gonna be participating in that. So it was like, oh, cool, whatever. But Mariano Rivera is the only person to this day who's ever been unanimously voted into the hall of Fame, which means, like, indisputed incredible closer. Absolutely nasty. Had the coolest, like, walkout music. He was. As a Sox fan, it pains me to give him any credit, but he was very good and he was gonna play, so everybody was excited. He actually got a hit. He hit the ball and ran to first. No incident. And he's again a closing pitcher, so that's not something that closing pitchers often do. Then he was in the field and all of a sudden just collapsed and he tore his Achilles. Just the one, just a single. And we found out about it because Rivera's former teammate, Roger Clemens initially broke the news during an appearance on wfan. And it seems like he suffered it during a defensive play. During Willie Randolph's at bat, he took a step in before going to the ground. He will undergo surgery in the upcoming week. That's. That's crazy. Even crazier when you consider the Yankees who are imploding, have spent. They went and got a closer this off season, Isabella. They were like, you know what? We need a shutdown closer. A guy who's gonna. Just at the end of the game, you give him the ball, he gets the outs. No worry, no doubt. So they go and get Devin Williams. Devin Williams, he takes. They was. They changed their. They have a facial hair policy. We've talked about this. They had it for 50 years almost that you aren't. You aren't allowed to have facial hair, which you know, famously. Johnny Damon, who was on the Red Sox Okay. Was, like, covered in a beard and long hair. And then he went to the Yankees. He signed with the Yankees and then had to come out and shaved his face, cut his hair, looked completely different. It was crazy. They stopped that rule this year because Devin Williams. They wanted to be a desirable location for Devin Williams, who had a beard. Devin Williams, I suck at baseball, okay? So he's better than me, but he stinks right now. In the last couple games, he has been the reason they lose. The last, I think three times he's been on the mound. Like, he. Directly. I saw when he took the mound in, like, the 10th inning, they were tied with the Astros, and he just blew it. Like, he's the reason they're losing. And it's very funny that Mariano Rivera had said before the Old Timers game, I'm gonna talk with Devin Williams. I want to have a talk with him before I leave Yankee Stadium. And then he couldn't because he broke his. Ripped his. He tore his Achilles and had to go to the hospital. So, like, he was gonna be like, don't worry, guys. I'll take care of this. I'm gonna fix it. I'm gonna talk to him. The Yankees are cursed, man.
Isabella
Yeah.
Chris
I hate to see it.
Katie Nolan
Johnny Damon was at the Old Timers game. And that's all we're gonna say about that. He looks different. And that's all we're gonna say about that last injury that happened. That shouldn't happen.
Isabella
Wah, wah, wah.
Katie Nolan
Ow. That hurts. I like that they did alts for us when they sent over the audio. I love that.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Bang.
Chris
For our buck.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I love that. It's just a real steal. In a recent Copa. What country are we in?
Chris
Brazil.
Katie Nolan
Gramio Prudente's Kels Kessley. Am I saying these nouns properly?
Chris
You're saying it perfectly.
Katie Nolan
Suffered a knee injury while attempting Cristiano Ronaldo's SIU celebration after scoring a goal. So an injury during a celebration, which is similar to that car thing he did. He was celebrating and he did hurt himself. These were all non game situations. Yeah, none of these. I mean, it's a game situation when you're. You score a goal, but the moment after you score a goal, the clock is stopped. This is not. This is technically not part of the game. Celebrating. Kind of interesting. I guess that's what we mean when we say they didn't need to happen. And that's it. No. Yeah, that's good. And that's the end of that segment. Speaking of Ronaldo, did you see Isabella Cristiano Ronaldo engaged.
Isabella
I did not.
Katie Nolan
To his longtime girlfriend. She's a model. Her name. Isn't it Georgina. Georgina Rodriguez. They have been dating for eight years. You'll remember when Cristiano Ronaldo took that Saudi money to go play in Saudi Arabia, a place that is known to have very strict laws about unmarried couples living together, they said, we. What? We'll just not maybe look at the fact that you. You don't want to. Instead of going, hey, come. Maybe you've been dating for so long, maybe you just propose. Maybe you guys just get married. He was like, no, we will be living together, and we won't be. And they were like, we can pretend to be fine with that, just for you. And now he's. And now. I guess eight years was enough time he decided, I actually do really like this lady. So congrats to the happy couple. They posted about it on Instagram. She posted and said, yes, I do. In this. In all my lives. Very cute. They've got four children together, but she also helps raise, obviously, his child from a previous relationship. Yeah. Very exciting. Very exciting. Exciting stuff. Did you see the ring? No. I'm just curious to know your thoughts.
Isabella
But I'm hearing that there are. It's, like, worth, like, millions.
Katie Nolan
Curious to know your thoughts on the picture of the ring.
Isabella
Wow, that's. Guys, that's big.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
And whatever a big ring you're thinking of in your head, just think bigger.
Katie Nolan
You know those apps that, when you're pregnant, say, like, your baby today is a pistachio. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What would you say that that ring is?
Isabella
Oh, that's hard. It's a grape. A grape.
Katie Nolan
But one of the big. Like, a big. Yeah. Yes.
Chris
Scapanong grape.
Katie Nolan
Excuse me?
Isabella
I was gonna say, like, a cotton candy grape, maybe.
Chris
Cotton candy grapes are good.
Katie Nolan
And you said what?
Chris
A scapa. Non grape.
Katie Nolan
And that is what?
Chris
Just a bigger grape.
Katie Nolan
Okay. And why do you know that?
Chris
I do my research into grapes.
Katie Nolan
Are you a sommelier?
Chris
No. I would love to be. I. I tried briefly, until my doctor said, don't drink as much as as you're drinking, so.
Katie Nolan
Aren't you supposed to spit it out?
Chris
I'm not gonna waste it. I don't have that much money. I'd rather enjoy my wine or not drink it at all.
Katie Nolan
Okay, fair enough. Yeah. So they're engaged. That is a. I. And look, this sounds like a poor person thing to say to make myself feel better, but I don't think. I wouldn't want that.
Isabella
That I don't think so. It sounds heavy. It sounds like it's going to snag on my clothes, you know?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. And like, imagine tucking in the sheets to your bed with that on.
Chris
I don't think Cristiano Ronaldo's fiance is tucking in the sheets to their bed.
Katie Nolan
You don't?
Chris
I do not.
Katie Nolan
Not even like once. Not even. Just cuz, like, he kicks it out at night and you have to tuck.
Isabella
I have a good example. What about when she's tossling like, her hair?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, you can tossle with that. That. God. When your hair gets stuck in a piece of jewelry and you're like, ow, ow. That's what, top 10 or have you.
Isabella
Ever had it where you're wearing, like, press on nails and like the bottom.
Katie Nolan
Is lifting and then you've got your nail caught underneath it? Not a fan. And it's never your gray hairs that get caught. It's never that. You're never like, oh, good. I wanted to get that hair out of there anyway. Great. So, yes. Congratulations to the happy couple. I'm excited to see the opulence of that wedding because look, you. I'm not saying anything that isn't true. You took Saudi money, you got paid a ton of money to go play for that team. So, like, let's see that reflected in the party that you throw. I want to see this. This can be arbezos, you know, this can be don't put carpet in the forest. Don't invite people that you don't aren't friends with. Or maybe do. I don't know. I don't care.
Isabella
Just make sure you invite Tom Brady.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. And. And Sofia Vergara. And then lock him in a room. No. She's too old for you, is she? Other baseball stuff. Aaron Boone got ejected for the fifth time this season. Not gonna say much about it. Just that that is a lot of getting ejected. He was ejected six times last season. Since becoming manager in 2018, Boone has been ejected 44 times. Do you have thought. Does anyone have strong thoughts on an ejection of a manager? I feel like what I love about it, it's one of the only sports where there's still like, I mean, I guess a basketball coach gets kicked out every now and then, but, like, there's truly, like, lots of opportunity to be kicked. Like you can. It's used sometimes strategically. And that's where I take issue with Boone is I think sometimes he does it to fire up his guys and you're like, this is kind of a hack. And doesn't Always fire your guys up. Sometimes you're just out there clearly arguing like a ball and strike call that you're like, this is not worth the fight that you're putting up.
Chris
Yeah. It's like what my parents used to tell me about swearing. Right. You want to limit the amount that you swear so that when you need to swear, it's more effective. If you're just swearing willy nilly. It takes away some of that, you know, the power that you could get from it.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
And that's what Aaron Boon is doing. He's just doing this willy nilly. And it's just losing its effect a little bit. It's like just, just chill out man. And I know in baseball like the. I think it's much easier to get ejected in baseball than in the NBA. There are some coaches that in the NBA need to fire up their teams and they can get ejected and that's fine. But I feel like you have to do a lot more in an NBA game to get than you do in an MLB game.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. I mean you really are not supposed to argue balls and strikes. And you get why they have to draw a hard line on that because then the game would be five hours long. It would just be so much debate. You can't be coming out of the dugout for that. But I just. The part I like about a manager getting kicked out in baseball is once they get kicked, once that hand makes the signal. Cause that's all they got to do is about the ump just has to go like you're out. He just throws his hand and then the crowd will go nuts. And then oftentimes you'll see the manager get his money. So worth. Which is like if I'm kicked out, I'm going to tell you exactly what I think about you in your face. I'm going to cause an absolute scene cuz what are you going to do? Kick me out further? I'm already gone. So on my way out I just unload on. That's. Those are the. That's when you're like this is cathartic. We're all going through something and we needed this.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
But 44 times in your managerial career, that's high. That's a lot. That's quite.
Isabella
I was going to say like are there other coaches that are up there?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I think it's like a. I was gonna say maybe this is older baseball, but I don't know. I. It's. It's certainly like managers that do that were known for that. Like it is A tactic of like a. A characteristic of a manager. It could be like he gets out there and, you know, yells for his team. I feel like Gabe Kapler did that a lot with the Giants, but I could also be wrong. I've. It's happened before. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened before. Other baseball stuff. Giants ver. Justin Verlander. I keep forgetting that he's on the Giant, so I have to remind people. G Justin Verlander notched his 3,500th career strikeout earlier this season. We went crazy for Kershaw getting to 3,000. And Brady brought up the great point that, like, how many pitchers are going to be getting this high now that we've got pitch counts and the like, now that we know that, you know, pitchers are their bodies.
Chris
Science of it all. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Yes, exactly. And also with the prevalence of Tommy John surgery and the time that that cuts out of their career. Anyway, he's got his 3,500th career strikeout on. On Sunday, striking out the side in the first inning, which I will say is a better. We're all tuned in to watch this than Kershaw was. Kershaw kind of took, I think a little longer than he wanted to get the final one to have the celebration and it came right after an injury, which was kind of a bummer. But striking out the side in the first inning is how you want to do it. That's sick. Loved that. And I just wanted to shout him out because we've mentioned him earlier this year because he was struggling to get a win. And when we talked to Hunter Pence, what he kind of said was like, look, look, it's a win for a pitcher is. There's a lot that goes into deciding. It's not necessarily just that, like the team wins when they pitch. So he's been having decent performances, but just not getting that win. So Hunter was like, he's not done. He's still got it. He's still learning and growing, which is incredible. And, and that's exciting. He now has 3,503 career strikeouts after Sunday and he trails Walter Johnson by 11 for 19. Most all time. That's sick.
Chris
Pretty darn impressive. Unfortunately, he couldn't finish the game the way that he started it. It wasn't a good end. The Giants got routed in that one. But still a phenomenal performance and worth celebrating.
Katie Nolan
That's right. And then the brewers, we have to mention, they are on a 10 game win streak. This is the second time this season they've hit Double digits with a win streak. And they are only the 10 10th team since 1969, which is the divisional era, to have two winning streaks of at least 10 games in one season. So they're only the 10th team to do that. This is the second time this year they've been on a streak this long. And don't forget, if they get to 12 wins. Free burgers. So two more and free burgers. It's happened twice in the history of the team and in the history of this being a thing. What's the name of the burger place? Place. It's a guy's name.
Isabella
Charlie. Okay, maybe Charles Brewer.
Chris
George.
Katie Nolan
George Webb.
Isabella
George Webb.
Katie Nolan
She was close. Charles.
Isabella
George.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Names you see less and less of. George Webb burgers for free if they win two more games. So we're all rooting for the Brewers, a team that is sexy.
Isabella
Yes.
Katie Nolan
A sexy team of. Who plays sexy baseball.
Isabella
Exactly.
Chris
There. There is something going on up there because not only are they on this incredible hot streak, but Jacob Misorowski, who have spoken about this on. Spoken about him on the show before on Friday, pulled a rare Pokemon Charizard hologram card out of a pack. Like, he. I guess he still collects Pokemon cards, which I didn't know was still a thing, but he just. He pulled a really rare Pokemon card on Friday. So everything going right in the brewers clubhouse this season?
Katie Nolan
So random.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Were you a big Pokemon guy? Did you ever go through a Pokemon phase?
Chris
I would say I was an average Pokemon card collector. I wasn't obsessed, but I definitely collected them. I never got a Charizard. I always wanted a Charizard. I remember my mum promising me a Charizard card when I went to the dentist when I was 10 or 11 to get a filling. That was what I wanted to make myself feel better, but we couldn't find one.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God. Always a Bulbasaur, never a Charizard. Really?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Tough life. What about you, Isabella? Did you. Are you Pokemon?
Isabella
Not car. I would only ever had, like, the. Like, the Game Boy Pokemon games.
Katie Nolan
Oh, that's fun. I never even did that.
Chris
They were good.
Katie Nolan
I played. I think I played Pokemon Go for, like, a day.
Isabella
Wait, is that the, like, the newer one that was on the phone?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Where you would, like, go and catch them in. In real life.
Isabella
I think where I lived at the time, there wasn't any because I thought it was so boring. I was like, there's nothing near me.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Doing it in a city was. It was a lot to do. And then Hillary Clinton said, pokemon Go to the polls. And I was like, I'm deleting that off my phone. I'm deleting this app off of my phone. Speaking of baseball, kind of Little League World Series is coming up and I'm getting kind of hyped, you guys. I watched the Little League softball World Series this past weekend, P.A. 1. Congrats to those girls. I also watched like the earlier rounds of the Little League World Series. Like, I was watching. They were on ESPN, ESPN2. And I. I was. I found myself watching some games because here's the thing that rules about the Little League World Series. This is, I don't want to say unaffected by money, because you can tell that, like, a lot of these teams probably have better budgets than others or like, they've got, like, really expensive equipment. So I don't want to say it's like completely untouched by money. But it's like that. These are. Are kids. These are children who are playing this children's game. They're not media trained. They're not dead inside yet. They're not like, hardened to the outside world. They like, experience their pure emotions after a win or a loss. I not a huge fan of how much time the cameras will linger on a crying kid after a loss that I can't really handle. But I love to see how excited and just like pure giddiness when they make a play, when they get a hit like these. Watching the girls, like, fist pump and celebrate when they make a catch was awesome. It's fun. It's so pure. I don't know if this is the way for the boys, but for the girls, everybody bats. So you've got like 14 people that bat that. Yeah, it's so much fun. I was like, getting really invested in these teams in this game. So it's coming up. It starts on tomorrow, right?
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
So starts on tomorrow. That's what.
Isabella
I don't know.
Chris
Yes.
Isabella
Sorry.
Chris
Tomorrow through.
Isabella
I hear someone coming into my apartment and I got really nervous.
Katie Nolan
Are you okay? Can we pause? Yes.
Isabella
It's my boyfriend. I was just like.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
She said, wait, let me stop myself. I don't know. Please check. I was scared. So we're getting into the Little League World Series. Maybe we save. Maybe we talk about this on Thursday once a game has been played. But I didn't want to get past this without. Are you sold on the idea, Isabella? Cuz you're telling me you don't. You didn't even know about it? I didn't.
Isabella
I thought that was just something that, like, you know, you sign up for when you're like 10, you know, and then, like, you do it in your town. But there's a Little League World Series. That's. That's cool.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. So it's 10 teams from the United States. Yeah.
Isabella
What are you representing? Is it by city?
Katie Nolan
So it's by region. So the games that were leading up to this, you got to play to represent, basically, I think your state, and then you played to represent the region. So there's Great Lakes, Metro, Mid Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, New England, Northwest, and Southeast. Those are all the regions of the United States. Okay, we've got a team from. And then in order, it's Illinois, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, South Dakota.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Las Vegas, Braintree, Massachusetts. Shout out. That's who we're rooting for. Me, who I'm rooting for. I won't tell you who to root for. Washington, South Carolina, Texas, and Hawaii are the United States teams this year. And then in the international bracket, 10 teams. So in Asia Pacific, it's Chinese Taipei. Australia is Brisbane. Canada is Vancouver. The Caribbean. Caribbean. How do we say it on this podcast?
Isabella
Caribbean.
Katie Nolan
Great. Chris, you didn't even want to take.
Isabella
A crack at me, even though for some reason, Pirates of the Caribbean. I say Caribbean. I don't know what it is.
Katie Nolan
I don't know what it is.
Chris
I've always said Caribbean.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
Always.
Katie Nolan
Well, they do that in Australia, right?
Isabella
You said we do that.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, yeah. Aruba. Aruba is representing the. That. Europe, Africa, which. That's an interesting. But okay. Is Chechia.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
They've been dominating their region lately. Apparently, this is their third straight appearance, so they're pretty good. Japan is represented by Japan. Tokyo. Latin America is Venezuela. Mexico is Chihuahua. Mexico. Panama is from Panama. Araijan. I apologize for not knowing how to pronounce that. And then Puerto Rico is. Yabucoa. Puerto Rico. So those are all of the teams. And then they just. It's not single elimination, but it's like an. They just expanded it a couple years ago. It's like a. I don't even know the format, but it's a bunch of games. It's on all day and night. It's exciting, it's fun. It's kids. And they'll. They'll put, like, in the. When the kid comes up to bat instead of, like, all their stats, it'll give you some of that stuff. But it'll be, like, favorite apps, Snapchat, or, like, favorite. I. They. During the prelims, they were doing, like, favorite TV show, and it was all, like, older shows. I was like, they should ask these kids what streamers they watch. They should ask these kids who they follow. Like, you know what I mean? It's the. The media. So is it like, different?
Isabella
Is it like their version of like a walk on song kind of thing?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's more for the broadcast. I don't know if they have walk up music. I didn't notice any, but they. It's like a. It's a chance for the fans to, like, get to know them as kids instead of worrying about, like, you know, about numbers and stats and stuff. And I think it's illegal to gamble on, is it not? Cause it's children. So maybe that's also kind of partly why it's so pure and why I like it so much. So it's really, really fun. And I could see you getting into it. Isabella. It really, like, plays that in a baseball game or like, if you watch enough baseball, you're like, that's routine. That's not the things that make baseball boring. People say, quote, unquote, not me, me, but people. This isn't that. Because anytime the ball's in play, you're like, this could go any way. This kid could have the best play of his life or he could crumble under the pressure. You don't know. And then you just watch it kind of play out. Remember when we told you about a. An inside the park home run in. In baseball where you'll hit the ball, but it doesn't leave the park, but you get to go around the bases. And they call that a little league home run. Because oftentimes in little League, the ball doesn't have to leave the park for the runner to get all the way around the bases. Because something could happen in between, you know, the hitting of the ball and the throwing of the ball.
Chris
Which also makes those moments where a kid steps up and hits a grand slam so much better. Because that juxtaposition between some of the play defensive plays that you'll see in a game compared to this outstanding athletic achievement is just so great.
Katie Nolan
It's amazing. It's just so exciting. And then, like, you see the kid go like, I'm an amazing athlete. You're like, yes, you are an amazing athlete. It's just very cool. It's very cool. It's very fun. It's perfect for the summer and it starts tomorrow. So get hyped. Pick a team and follow them. Follow them closely because it's fun and it's. And we root for kids. Chris, you put in Australia. Oh, Isabella. Put an Australia story in here actually.
Isabella
Did I?
Katie Nolan
One handed catch by cricket spectator in Australia.
Isabella
Oh yeah, I did, I did.
Katie Nolan
What happened, happened.
Isabella
This guy in the crowd, okay, he caught the ball with one hand, like no stumbling. He just caught it. And he had like two cans of drinks in the other hand.
Katie Nolan
Oh, I did see this.
Isabella
It was just like a perfect catch.
Katie Nolan
Crazy.
Isabella
Why aren't, why aren't we doing that over here?
Katie Nolan
Two cans of vodka. What's going on there?
Chris
So surprised it was vodka.
Katie Nolan
Is it two cans of like vodka in the sense like here it would be like two trulies or is it like a can of vodka? Because I know Australia goes pretty hard sometimes.
Isabella
They look like beer cans. Honestly.
Chris
They did look like beer cans. But I think they're sort of like a truly type drink. Because one of his quotes after making that catch, I think he was speaking to some media outlet and he said the lemonade ones are bloody good. I've got a bit of a hangover this morning.
Katie Nolan
Okay, good.
Chris
That's what he was asking.
Katie Nolan
Thank God Harry Gill, you 26 year old pilot. Thank God.
Chris
The most hairy looking man you'll ever see.
Katie Nolan
Also didn't realize till just now that pilot, I'm. Thank God it's not just two cans of vodka double fisting straight vodka. And then you're like, I gotta fly home tonight. That's pretty wild.
Chris
Here's the question for you as well. Does it make it cool? Because if you watch the clip, you know the, the batsman hits a six, Harry catches it and then in cricket you have to hand the ball straight back. You can't keep the ball like you can in baseball. So you see this guy make a spectacular catch. Because part of the degradation of the ball, that's part of the game. The ball acts differently as the game goes along.
Katie Nolan
You guys use the same ball the whole game.
Chris
There will be certain moments in like a test match where you can call for a new ball if you want. But generally speaking, bowlers want a used ball because there's more movement.
Katie Nolan
That's so interesting.
Chris
Yeah, but you have to keep a ball for a specific amount of time. And if a ball gets lost in the crowd or they hit it over the fence or whatever, they have to find, find a similar ball that's of a similar condition and age to the one.
Katie Nolan
Okay, that's. That's a little crazy. That's a little. That's where they go a little too far. If you lose the ball, just open a new ball, play with the ball. I don't think we need to go.
Isabella
Same thing.
Katie Nolan
Delay of game. We must pause and search high and low for a ball that's been. That's wild because that's.
Chris
That's part of it. Like the. The. The bowlers, the.
Katie Nolan
The.
Chris
The team that they're in the field, they want the ball to have as much. Much, you know.
Katie Nolan
Experience.
Chris
Yeah, as much experience. Exactly. To be as old as possible because it's going to have a better chance of getting the batsman out.
Katie Nolan
That's wild.
Chris
So, like, it was. It was cool to watch this cat, like, he makes this fantastic catch and just goes. Yeah, there you go.
Katie Nolan
Meanwhile, if you throw it back, it's like, you're not supposed to celebrating.
Chris
Yeah. You're taking a selfie with the ball. Like, it's. It. I don't know. It's. It just looks cooler.
Katie Nolan
I wonder who. I mean, I imagine baseball. Somebody had to be the first person to go, I'm gonna keep this.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Like, there had to be a moment where someone was like, I'm not giving this back. And so I wonder if watching cricket, that's what this was. Yeah. If somebody should just go, no, I'm keeping it. What would happen?
Chris
I remember watching a cricket match when I was probably 15 or 16. This was like a Sheffield Shield match. So it was like domestic cricket. Right. It wasn't international cricket. And someone hit a six, and they cut to someone in the crowd trying to grab it and put it in his pocket. And it was a guy I went to high school with.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God.
Chris
And he got caught on camera trying to steal the cricket ball.
Katie Nolan
Australia is so funny because it's very big, but the people. There's so few people.
Chris
Like, an alarmingly low amount of people than in Texas.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Or in Australia. It's 27 million.
Katie Nolan
So it's a gigantic place. But there are so few. It's. I feel like whenever something happens and somebody from Australia is in the news, I ask the people I know from Australia if they know them at all, and usually they do.
Chris
It's like that story that came out about the mascot in Sydney. The mascot that pushed the kid and the kid. I think we thought for a moment he might have been one of my cousins.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Because he had the same surname. My grandma.
Katie Nolan
Just a wild thing.
Chris
Yeah.
Isabella
And you're, like, off chance. Aren't you, like, like, removed related to one of the. The. The Pope candidates?
Chris
The Pope candidate knew my mom's aunt.
Isabella
Oh, okay. Okay.
Katie Nolan
That's removed related. I'll take that. That's fine, Isabella. Also a story I saw that you were interested in. Is this Jake Paul vowing to sue anyone who claims that his fights are staged?
Isabella
Yeah, I think he posted on his story basically just being like, if anyone says my fights are staged, you'll be sued. And secondly, you're a jealous ass peasant who cannot even believe how good I am at this point. And you should go to church to fix your insecurities.
Katie Nolan
That's. There's so much to unpack there. And we're an hour and 15 into the podcast.
Isabella
Yeah, it's a lot.
Katie Nolan
If anyone says my fights are staged, you will be sued. And secondly, you're a jealous ass peasant.
Chris
That part is specifically directed at Piers Morgan, I believe.
Isabella
Yeah.
Chris
Because he's been in a feud with for a while.
Katie Nolan
Well, I'm wrong. Broken clock write twice a day. And this is one of the those times who cannot even believe how good I am at this sport. And you should go to church to fix your insecurities. Is that something the church is known for lately? I don't think.
Isabella
No. I think a lot of my insecurities stemmed from the church.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. Thank you. Exactly what I was thinking. I was like, I remember it making me feel pretty bad about myself all the time. I pray for you because I have so much love for humanity. What are you even saying? It's salad. It's a salad of words. And that includes the people who are against me. Genuinely, I pray for you and I want the world to be in a better place. Heart, hands, emoji. Just use the heart. You don't need to use your hands. It's an emoji. You people are. You people are filled with a disease and I'm here to help you cure it. That's actually what the amortal people say when they show up in their little healing truck. Yeah. The issues between Paul and Morgan seemingly began in June when Paul stormed out of a virtual interview with the British broadcaster. During the interview, Morgan said he doubted Paul could last 10 seconds against Mike Tyson at his peak. No shit. Nobody could last that long against Mike Tyson at his peak. I think the annoying thing with the Paul's is like wrestling and boxing and all of these things. They like at this point have been doing it long enough that they are in shape and have a level of skill. The issue is that you are making a name off of fighting against people who are not at their best or this isn't their sport or they're old. Like it's always a little asterisk. It's never like going up against a Current, like title contender. He's not fighting against fighters. He's making a name that way. And then maybe eventually, after getting good, maybe he'll do it eventually. But it's like, what. How do we allow somebody to build a name for themselves off of people who wouldn't have won a fight anyway? It's frustrating. And I remain committed to my promise that I will not learn the difference between these two people. I do not know which one Jake is and I do not know which one Logan is, and that is my right.
Isabella
I agree. You don't need to know the difference.
Chris
It does seem like Jake Paul is the front runner to fight Anthony Joshua. So if he can fight Anthony Joshua, then maybe that will actually be a fight that could solidify his credentials a little bit more than some of these other fights that he's been partaking in. But.
Isabella
So I'm assuming Anthony Joshua. Joshua is like a current in his peak boxer.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Okay, well, here's the thing. You'll have to tell me what happens because I again, remain committed to my promise to not pay for another one of those fights. So I will not be watching a Paul brother. I may. If. If I happen to be somewhere where it's being shown, maybe I'll glance. Okay, maybe I'll give it a little glance. But I have watched so many stupid fight fights from one of you. Whenever a Paul does it, it counts towards the Paul total. So it doesn't matter which one of you is doing it. I've reached my threshold. I'm done. Good luck. Watch. Something will happen where, like, he finally gets knocked out, but the cameras malfunction and only the people who watched it live get to see it. And I will never have gotten my satisfying conclusion. That's what they want you to think. Chris, you put this IndyCar story in here. You know, I'm not tuned into IndyCar like that, but I do want you to communicate our listeners the importance of this story. So I'm handing it off to you.
Chris
Yeah. So Alex Palo has claimed his fourth IndyCar title in the last five years. It was a dominant year pretty much from week one for Alex Polo. He's wrapped up the championship with still a few weeks left in the season. He's proven to be one of the greatest drivers of the past, you know, 25 years or so. This year has just been a remarkable achievement. He is now won the third most amount of championships in IndyCar history behind AJ Foyt and teammate Scott Dixon. So it just puts him in this illustrious company. But, man, he came Third over the weekend and still had enough points to make it mathematically impossible for anyone else to beat him out for the rest of the season. So in a Sport that, unlike F1, actually sort of promotes this level playing field, it's astounding that someone is this far above the second best driver in the sport. So I just wanted to give Alex Palo a shout out because what he's able to do week in, week out, the. The way that he's able to stretch his tire life more than anyone else, the way that he's able to function with limited gas better than anyone else is just outstanding. So I want to give him his props.
Katie Nolan
Hell yeah. Props to you, Alex. Congratulations.
Isabella
Props.
Katie Nolan
Perfect. That's great.
Isabella
I'm so sorry.
Katie Nolan
That's.
Isabella
No, that came out.
Chris
Never apologize.
Katie Nolan
Apologize for. We appreciate it. Last week we told you guys about the World Games. This was something exciting. It's the sports that haven't quite made it to the Olympics yet, but this is their Olympics, if that makes any sense. A key reminder here, free. The World Games is free to watch. Chris, where do we watch it?
Chris
The World Games Official website, world games.org okay.
Isabella
Request edu and if that one doesn't work, try.
Chris
Com try world the worldgames.org Nice.
Katie Nolan
Nice. So you can watch all of these Games there. What some of the. Some of the sports that we've got were.
Chris
Well, we spoke about Corf ball.
Katie Nolan
Yep.
Chris
We spoke about orienteering. We spoke about casting, billiards, flag football.
Katie Nolan
That's right.
Chris
There's a bunch of really interesting sports.
Katie Nolan
And orienteering we were excited about because this was about. It's. We said it was like the Amazing Race, but a sport where you just. Well, Chris watched it, so you can give us more detail. But I do want to say this pretty tragic story that has happened before we get into the actual sport. Italian orienteer Mattia Debertolis has died after collapsing during the World Games in China last year week. 29 years old, he was found unconscious by organizers during an orienteering event last Friday in Changu before dying earlier today. His cause of death is unknown at this stage. He was taking part in the final of the men's middle distance event which took place in temperatures above 30 degree. And I assume that that's Celsius, so it's probably like in the 90s, low, early 90s, early 90s when he collapsed. The Italian was one of 12 athletes listed as did not finish in the official. Whoa, that's. Now where are the other ones? What happened to the other 11 athletes that didn't finish, they get lost. Not sure this sport fascinates me. He was part of the national Italian national team and finished fifth in the 2022 World cup final. That is so sad.
Isabella
Yeah.
Chris
Yeah. We were so pumped about orienteering. I, I logged in this morning to see what, what the latest news was in. In the World Games scene, and I saw that story pop up. He collapsed on Friday, but he died overnight for us. So, you know, he was in the hospital for the last few days and then just died overnight. But just tragic and, you know, puts a dampener on that event and the World Games as a whole. There'll still be plenty of positive stories to take from the World Games, but as of right now, as of today, that's definitely the, the, the overriding story that's sort of taken over the event.
Katie Nolan
It's incredibly sad. So sorry to his family and friends and probably anybody competing in that event. I bet that's. That'll rock you to know that that happened. So incredibly sad. But I. Again, these World Games, being free, I, I think this is a cool. Chris, you were telling me about watching orienteering. I just think it's like a. We don't get a chance to, like, see sports covered like that that much. You were talking about how cool it is. Describe it again. Like they keep them sequestered or whatever.
Chris
Yeah, they keep them quarantined. They keep each of the athletes quarantined before their event because they are not able to watch any of the broadcast because then they'll get hints as to, you know, which direction to go. And the whole point of the sport is to try to figure out through the use of a map, what your route is supposed to be. So they get quarantined right up until it's time for them to race. Then they get taken to the, I don't know, whatever you call it, the field that they will be participating in. They wait at the starting line. I think each, I think it's. What do they say, a minute or a couple of minutes in between participants. So you're not all starting together, obviously, because you're all. You have to try to find your own way to the finishing line. And when you're on the starting block, you have a map next to you that you are unable to touch until your time begins. And as soon as they say go, the athlete grabs the map, starts running, and then starts looking at the map and tries to figure out which way to continue running.
Katie Nolan
Essentially, what a metaphor for life. You just go. And then you'll figure it out. Once you. How do they show it on tv? How is it cut? Covered? Like, how do they commentate it live?
Chris
They were commentating it. They had these high camera shots of, like, most of the field of play. And so you could see, like, this little ant, like, character of the athlete running through the obstacle course, essentially trying to make their way through. The unfortunate part about it was they have to hit markers along. Along the way. Right. So, you know, there'll be a countless amount of markers that they have to hit to make sure that they're going along the correct route. On the broadcast that I was watching, I couldn't see where those markers were. I had to rely on the commentator to tell me, okay, they've just gone past their first checkpoint. They just gone past the second checkpoint. There's another marker. So you. It was hard for me as a viewer to be able to tell where they should be running and where they should be going next. But a note, even still a note.
Katie Nolan
Possibly for next year, but a free broadcast. So we'll.
Chris
Free broadcast. And it does look like it has the production quality of the Olympic Games.
Katie Nolan
That's very cool. There's not a lot of bug that, like, screen.
Chris
Very similar sort of bug. Very similar bug. The quality, the video quality is really strong. There's a lot less people watching than obviously in the Olympic Games, but it still looks fantastic.
Katie Nolan
That's awesome. I'm gonna actually tune in and watch some of these. If they make orienteering an Olympic. Olympic sport, I feel like the Challenge, the MTV show, the Challenge is going to be like, we are a sport now. Because I feel like this is what TJ's final is. They always are just like, go walk up this mountain or whatever. Eat, Eat this gross thing. Is that enough? Is that in the World Games eating gross stuff?
Chris
Not yet, but we'll see.
Katie Nolan
Fear factoring, I think they call it. Okay. We are, as always, out of time, but I do. Can we please talk about. Can we make it a little longer so we can talk about pillow fighting?
Chris
Let's make it a little bit longer.
Isabella
Let's do it. Okay.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Thank you. The Pillow Fight Championship is a professional sports organization that arranges competitive pillow fighting matches. When is it happening? Right now or you just found out about this? Isabella?
Isabella
I think I just found out about it.
Katie Nolan
Where did you bump into pillow fighting?
Isabella
On the sports red.
Katie Nolan
It. Oh, yeah. And they. And they. A clip. Walk me through your experience.
Isabella
It was a clip. I was, well, you know, doing as I normally do. Right. Finding topics for our episodes. And I Was like, this is something I want to suggest. And I saw this little clip, and someone said, would this ever become an Olympic sport? And guys, what you're imagining, they're actually fighting with pillows.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God. But they're, like, really hitting each other with. With it. Yeah. And the pumas are very stuffed. Oh. I was like, they're hard.
Isabella
I think you can, like, flip too, or something.
Katie Nolan
Yo, this is. And they're wearing onesies. Little singlets. Or maybe that's. No, they are singlets. Yeah, they're. Whoa. The flip.
Isabella
So do you think you would win a pillow fighting match?
Katie Nolan
No, I would cry this. In a. In any scenario I've ever been that looks like this. This. I was young, and as soon as I got walloped, I was like, dad, I like this. I. I don't. I'm a lover, not a fighter. Same once. I. I like. I didn't like being tickled. My God, did I not like being tickled. I learned that if you just pee, they'll stop. Only takes a couple times for that to happen. I'm like, okay, Dad, I warned you. So now. Now there's piss on your bed. So what are we gonna do? Maybe we don't tickle the little sister. Okay. Maybe you just leave me alone. But, yeah, pillow fighting. I don't think. I don't know. I would have said yes before I clicked on it and looked at the video. And now I'm like, I know. I don't. That's. They're really swinging that thing.
Isabella
Yeah, they really are. And I don't know, like, there's a. There's a. I guess a particular kind of pillow you must use. Okay. So I don't know if they're thick. Is it weighted?
Katie Nolan
They do. Look, they couldn't be memory foam, because that would be. That hit would be dense, I don't think.
Isabella
Stuff it with something.
Katie Nolan
I think it has to probably be pill feathers, right?
Isabella
Yeah. I think they actually, there's a phrase they use, like feathers up. I don't know.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God.
Isabella
Oh, there was another. I don't know if that's true, guys.
Katie Nolan
This might be misinformation, but if it is, what cute misinformation.
Isabella
Right.
Katie Nolan
In a land of misunderstanding misinformation. How cute is that one? What's that could happen. You're gonna say feathers.
Isabella
Feathers fly. I think that's what it is. Feathers fly.
Katie Nolan
That's great.
Isabella
Let your feather fly.
Katie Nolan
Yep. Let your freak feather fly.
Isabella
Exactly.
Katie Nolan
It was founded by brother Steve and Paul Williams in 2021. So it's recent. That's a post pandemic sport. I don't think we've got any new sports since the pandemic. The PFC offers a unique style of combination combat sport that combines elements of boxing and mixed martial arts using specialized pillows. Okay. In order to be an Olympic sport, by the way, it would need to be recognized by the ioc. They would need to have their own federation. They would need to have to apply to the association of IOC recognized International Sports Federations. It's like a bunch of steps. I don't think we're close on pillow fighting.
Isabella
Okay, but keep it in the bedroom, guys.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, Get a room. Okay. Get a room. Pillow fighting. USA has won gold in women's lacrosse. They beat Canada 16 to 8 to win gold at the World Games while Australia defeated Japan 1312 in the bronze medal game. Marie McCool was the MVP with two goals and four assists for USA USA capping a superstar run with 32 points in five games in Changdu, China. Canada won the World Games in 2022 when they were in Alabama.
Isabella
Alabama, Arkansas.
Katie Nolan
Do you see the Internet go nuts about that song this week?
Isabella
No. Really?
Katie Nolan
People tried to say it was one of the worst songs ever made, and I was like, what revisionist history is this? No, I think it's because their tiny desk is weird. Like, they're. They're weird. I don't want to offend, but they are. Like, as a person who loved that song, their tiny disc is like, you gotta really be in on it to be like, you know, and so I think people are just judging it based off of that. I. But they are that song.
Isabella
Yeah, no, that was.
Katie Nolan
Are you familiar with Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, Chris?
Chris
I've absolutely heard of them.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, of course.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
But yeah, everybody's being very mean about that song for like a full day.
Isabella
Day, like.
Katie Nolan
Okay, whatever.
Isabella
I replayed that song like a million times. It was fun.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it was. Sweet. Sweet little home is wherever I'm with you.
Isabella
Well, I love that.
Katie Nolan
Oh, I love that. Luke Litla. Luke Litla, friend of the podcast who's certainly. I'll take a poll here. Forgotten that he was on our show by now.
Chris
I think he forgot the minute that he left.
Katie Nolan
I think so too. World champion Luke Lutler won the star studded Australian darts masters in Wollongong.
Chris
Close. Wollongong.
Katie Nolan
Wait, what?
Chris
It's just two. The. The O's were a bit too.
Katie Nolan
Say it again your way.
Chris
Wollongong.
Katie Nolan
Wollongong.
Chris
That was better.
Katie Nolan
That's what I said. And still there's no difference between what you're saying and what I'm saying.
Chris
Well, the second time was good. The first time.
Katie Nolan
Wollongong. Yeah, that's what I haven't changed. I said it the same way all three times. Wollongong.
Chris
Second and third times were good. First times needed a bit of work and then you got there. Guys, that sounds great.
Katie Nolan
I'm losing my mind, I think. Isabella, say it.
Isabella
Wollongong.
Chris
Good.
Katie Nolan
What? That's. A year after being humbled in the final of the biggest invitation event to be played In Australia, the 18 year old this time made no mistake winning all three of his matches convincingly on Saturday night to lift yet another big title. Chris, what does this mean for the country of Australia? Well.
Chris
It'S good that he was able to ball out in my home country, but he was getting a lot of slack from some of the fans in Australia. This seems to be. This seems to be a recurring thing for Luke Littler. Whenever he goes to certain places for some reason people don't seem to like him. So he was getting a lot of lip from some of the audience members or from some, some of the crowd in Australia for this one. But he rose above all that noise. He showed them who he was and he managed to win yet another title and prove that he is just this incredible, incredibly consistent dartsman that is hopefully going to be around for many, many, many years and continue putting on terrific performances. He also had a moment that some people didn't love in one of the earlier rounds where he potentially was a little bit cocky in one of the games where he was on 171 and then rather than going for a big number, he hit a single. So that left him with 170 for the last round, which was going to be a harder out than otherwise he would have been able to get. And that was essentially him not trying his hardest was what a lot of people were saying. Not trying to his maximum capabilities because he was so confident he was going to beat his opponent and they thought that sort of, sort of took away from the. He just wasn't showing his opponent enough respect. That's what a lot of people were saying. But when you're that good, when you're Luke Litler and you have that much confidence in you, I say do whatever you want.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, me too. What about you as well? You say the same thing, do whatever you want.
Isabella
So.
Katie Nolan
So. Oh, it's. We have to tell people what to watch if they want to watch sports. But do we go to a break first? Is that how that usually works?
Chris
We can. Or we can go straight to it.
Katie Nolan
Whatever you want. Will the break have happened? It doesn't.
Chris
I have put a break earlier in the episode.
Katie Nolan
Great. So now we don't need a break. So rather than doing that, Chris, why don't you tell us what to watch if we want to watch some sports this week.
Chris
Katie, how much do you like pickleball?
Katie Nolan
You know, is. It's. It's. On a scale of 0 to 100, it's like 2.
Chris
Okay. You know, interesting. Well, the major league pickleball playoffs begin this Friday, so maybe you should do some watching and then maybe you'll get into it a little bit for the time. For. Just in time for the finals next week maybe.
Katie Nolan
And that's because. Okay, go ahead. This is a professional league.
Chris
This is a professional league. Okay, we've got the playoffs beginning this Friday. First game will be between Miami Pickleball Club against Texas ranchers at 1pm Eastern. Winston. Second game will be between Utah Black Diamonds and the Orlando Squeeze. That'll be it.
Katie Nolan
Orlando Squeeze.
Chris
Orlando Squeeze.
Katie Nolan
I don't think that's usually in my. If you told me what's an Orlando Squeeze, I don't think it would be something good. I think it would be something you could get in trouble with HR for.
Isabella
Oh, that's my. That's my side piece in Orlando.
Katie Nolan
Oh, yeah, that's. I was thinking like, oh, he does. I don't know. That guy creeps me out. He does that Orlando squeeze. Whenever he sees you, you're like, oh, yeah, Duck.
Chris
So the top teams from this season in major league pickleball will be playing this weekend in San Diego for a chance to earn one of the four spots in the finals to be played next weekend at CD Pickle in Central.
Katie Nolan
Oh, it's here. Well, here I'm in Massachusetts, but I'll be home.
Chris
Oh, and it will be in New York next weekend.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
It'd be a lot of fun. Pickleball is seeing a pretty big growth, I guess, the last few years and a lot of big time athletes and celebrities have bought into the league. And you'll see a bunch of owners including Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Drew Brees, Scotty Scheffler, Eva Longoria, Lil Wayne, a bunch of others who have brought in, bought into some of these teams. Mark Cuban as well. So I think this league is just going to continue getting bigger and bigger. It's a lot of fun. So I suggest people watch it. You can watch it on pickleballtv. Dot Com. Or you can search for Major League Pickleball on Amazon Prime. And another reason why pickleball might be getting a bit of a boost at the moment is because it was featured in the new movie Freaky, A Friday that Isabella saw recently.
Isabella
You did watch it? I did.
Katie Nolan
How was it?
Isabella
Okay. I liked it. The person I. I went. My friend, and she did not like it, and I felt like a loser.
Katie Nolan
Oh, no.
Isabella
It was one of those things where I was watching it and I was giggling and laughing and the theater was silent. I was like, I'm. I'm. I'm lame. I'm so lame. No, you're not.
Katie Nolan
You can enjoy what you enjoy.
Isabella
Okay. But, yeah, there was a scene where Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband are. They're in, like, a pickleball match, but it's at a point where she switched, so it's not actually Jamie Lee Curtis.
Katie Nolan
Ah, well, that's fun. Hi. Drinks in suit, I'm sure.
Isabella
Yes, yes. Oh, sorry.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, guys, they switch. Spoiler alert.
Chris
I've yet to play pickleball, but growing up playing tennis and growing up playing bat tennis, which to me looks very, very similar to pickleball. Ball, bat tennis. This was what I played when it wasn't Corf ball season. I alternated between playing Corf ball and bat tennis when I was in Just be.
Katie Nolan
It's occurred to me recently you could just be making stuff up. Like Corf ball being confirmed by the world Games was very helpful to you, but I will say you could just be making this up and we would both go, interesting. Bat tennis. And people at home were going, are just falling for whatever he says, obviously. Tennis. Not a thing.
Chris
Bat tennis. Essentially an early version of pickleball. I don't know how long pickleball's been around for, but if I. If I'm as. As good at pickleball as I was at bat tennis, I reckon I. Maybe I got to get into it again.
Katie Nolan
It started out as a cucumber, actually, and then it. You give it a little bit, you can make a quick pickleball, but it, you know, you got to let it sit. That's how long it's been around.
Isabella
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Katie Nolan
Cucumber Ball. Ball. And then you put it in vinegar. Vinegar and other things. Dill, probably, if that's the kind of pickle you want. Otherwise you gotta put bread and butter in there, I think. Right.
Chris
So watch it.
Katie Nolan
So watch it.
Chris
Pickleball this weekend.
Katie Nolan
Shout out to Fe, my manager, who loves pickleball and thinks it's the Coolest. I'm not there yet. I'm not there yet. It's like tennis, but for low impact. I get it. For exercise. I love it. For, like, couples. I love when couples play pickleball together when they're, like, in their 60s, and I think that's adorable. I'm not ready for it. Person. I don't. Not for me yet, I don't think. But that's. I'm not trying to judge. I don't want to yuck anybody's yum. If you love pickleball, good. Go for. Go for you. Go for you. Good for you. Go.
Isabella
You let your pickleball flag fly.
Katie Nolan
That's right. Also, you mentioned Scotty Scheffler, which reminded me we also didn't talk about Tommy Fleetwood, so maybe we'll talk about Tommy Fleetwood on Thursday because, oh, my God, once again, he collapsed at the end of a golf tournament, and that's crazy. What else can we watch, Chris?
Chris
So after we've finished watching Miami and Texas at 1 o' clock and Utah against Orlando squeeze at 2pm at 3pm Eastern on Friday, you can tune in to the EPL because the EPL is back.
Katie Nolan
That's the English Premier League.
Chris
Liverpool are back. They are playing Bournemouth in the English Premier League league. You can watch that game on the USA Network. This is the time of year that I always get into soccer for about three or four weeks, and then I quickly lose interest. But as of right now, I'm excited. I watch a bunch of games and then the season is so long, I.
Katie Nolan
Feel like they just stopped playing.
Chris
Yeah. In the lifetime of our podcast, we've had. Had no football, no NFL. But we've had the end of the EPL season and now the start of the following EPL season.
Katie Nolan
That's Wild Liverpool. Shout out Mo Salah. The greatest man on earth.
Chris
So watch that because soccer's fun.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Okay. Right.
Chris
We don't talk about a lot on this podcast, and I know we get a lot of.
Katie Nolan
We can get there. We'll get there. It's early. Listen, getting me to wake up early for a spot sport is tough. It's in. If it's not like a. Like a. A sport that I don't know.
Chris
That's why 3pm on Friday is perfect.
Katie Nolan
I wish they could all be like that. I wish all of them could be like. And people are like, dvr it. It goes against my principles. I'm sorry. It just goes against my principles, and I cannot. I cannot DVR a sporting event. It's the Magic is gone. I can look up what happened. I need to be. I need to feel like anything can happen at any moment. Moment. I need to feel like me doing my little superstitions can help if the outcome has already been determined. I. Me watching is not helpful so I, I'd have to be awake for it. Maybe, maybe I'll get better at waking up this year. Maybe this will be the thing I use to motivate me to be a morning person. I'm throwing up even just thinking about it. I'm having like acid reflux at the thought, but go Liverpool. One last thing. What can we watch if we want to watch sports this, this week, Chris.
Chris
We'Re going back to the World Games as I mentioned with the, with the last event that we covered where we have a lot of soccer fans, we also have a lot of Ultimate Frisbee fans that are always trying to get us to do the Ultimate Frisbee. So this is the perfect opportunity to do that. The World Games Ultimate Team Mixed Final will be on Saturday. Here you go, Katie. 5:30am Eastern. This is a good opportunity to start to kickstart your, your getting up early routine. 5:30am for the Ultimate Team mixed final. USA is in Pool 1, Australia's in pool. Pool 1, Pool A, Australia's in pool B. So maybe there's an opportunity for USA and Australia to be playing against each other in that final on Saturday, which would be a lot of fun. Ultimate Frisbee is a lot of fun to watch. I think a lot of people don't know about it, but the people that do know about it really, really love it and want to spread the word to those who don't know. So this is the perfect opportunity. And again, if I know Katie, this goes against your principles, but for other people out there who don't have similar principles, if you don't want to wake up at 5:30am Eastern, then you can just go on the World Games website again, theworldgames.org and watch the complete replay right there.
Katie Nolan
The reason Chris stopped is because my contacts started to flip in my eyeball and I started doing crazy shit. And you could tell he was like, what's going on over there? I forgot that you can see me, but they can't. I think I have like a little, I have like a little like a nick in the bottom of one of my contacts and it's like you'd be surprised how annoying that feels. It's like you think it would just go and be fine, but it's like.
Chris
No, the tiniest eyes are so sensitive. Yeah, I could understand that.
Katie Nolan
So annoying. I'm just airing it out. I was also looking up if ultimate Frisbee and frog golf were the same. They're not. Right. Ultimate Frisbee is. You're throwing to people.
Chris
Correct.
Katie Nolan
Yes. Because Frolf. Frisbee golf is. You throw into those little.
Chris
Which is also an event at the World.
Katie Nolan
Really.
Chris
But that is not. Yes.
Katie Nolan
And are they calling it for all for Frisbee golf?
Chris
I think it's just called Frisbee golf.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
What am I the only one calling it Frolf?
Katie Nolan
And does that make me cool or very uncool? These are the questions.
Chris
They both come under the flying disc. I love that category.
Katie Nolan
Totally.
Chris
And so you have the disciplines of. It's just called disc golf. The disciplines are disc golf and ultimate. They are both the disciplines of flying disc at the World Games.
Katie Nolan
Discipline. Another principle. I don't cut up me yawning. Have. No. Leave it in because people need to.
Chris
Everyone else is probably doing.
Katie Nolan
This has been a long podcast. Podcast. Look, I like to talk about sports with my friends.
Isabella
Is that a crime?
Katie Nolan
Is that a cr. So sue me. If you call my podcast Rigged Haters and losers. I'll sue you. I'll sue you. You. What did he call him? You peasant.
Isabella
You jealous ass Peasant.
Katie Nolan
Peasant. That's the podcast. Thank you for sticking around. I think they should be this length all the time. If you agree, call and say that and we'll forward it to Siri. Serious?
Chris
Because I can tell you the discord. Love it.
Katie Nolan
I know. And it's crazy that the only reason they have to be an hour is because we think they have to be. But that's better for the numbers. And I don't get involved in the numbers.
Chris
I'm sure it hasn't been less than an hour 15 or maybe an hour 10. It hasn't been that short since.
Katie Nolan
I mean an hour 10 is an hour. If you're me, an hour 10 means you did it. It's an hour. Yeah. I didn't think it's been like that's as much starts.
Chris
That's consistently an hour 20.
Katie Nolan
Is that an hour 20 to me is an hour I did it. If as long as it's under an hour and a half I did it. And that's incorrect. So anyway, it's. We're not wasting time. We're having fun.
Chris
This won't be the longest episode. I'm gonna see how much we have to cut out.
Katie Nolan
Barely any.
Chris
I think we got an hour 50 something last week. Right.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I think this is okay. And here's the thing. I can get better at cutting out these stories, but then you won't hear about things like orienteering and like, no one else is talking about that. So it's like, what, It's a disservice to the content to cut it out.
Isabella
