But what I wanted to do was check in with our Knicks fan, Isabella, whose Knicks fandom we did not create as a podcast. It predates us, but we have stoked these flames over the year. Yeah. I was gonna ask if you felt like maybe going to that, but I bet it's also. Could be just mayhem, just absolute bedlam. So I know that's why they canceled the first ones from the last series.

I might honestly just prefer to go to, like, a bar with my brothers kind of thing. That seems more fun.

And I just feel like the bars are going to be packed. People are going to be out in the streets yelling if they win, if they steal one on the road. The first game of the series, this city's gonna be. It's just gonna be different. It's just, like, gonna be different. I've seen so much blue and orange today, and I. I was gonna say about band. Something about Bandwagon fans, but when this came up earlier in the radio show, Isabella said, I have thoughts on that. And I said, hold those and let's talk about them on our sports podcast. And so, Isabella, you have thoughts on Bandwagon fans?

I have a little of A hot take on bandwagon fans.

Okay.

I don't really care. Like, I don't. I think. Yes. I get the whole thing of, like, you know, oh, like, you're just joining on to the Knicks now or people. A lot of people said this with the Liberty, too, when they were. When they were winning the championship.

Right.

[Isabella]

But I don't know. Like, it makes sense that for a team that just won that that's the first entry point for someone to get into a sport, and you see that they're doing really good. Like, it just makes sense. Like, I knew someone who. Now she's, like, a really dedicated Eagles fan. She's been into the Eagles for the past five years, but the way she got into it was because the Eagles were doing really well. And so it's like, why? Who cares?

Yeah, I like that. I like that take. I think the. The. It comes from people wanting to prove that they've put in their time and that, like, oh, you only like, a team. Isabella wasn't maybe alive, I guess, or conscious for, like, those Dallas Cowboys fans that were all across the country. Or like, the people who were, like, Cowboys, Duke, Laker, or maybe, I guess it would be Bulls. Brady's familiar with the person I'm describing. Yeah. It's the kind of person who just picks all of the best teams and roots for those teams. And it was a really insufferable personality type.

Yeah. Like, I think if you pick that team, like, you should stay with that team.

[Katie Nolan]

Yes.

Like, I don't think you should be jumping around.

Right. Good. And that. So she's a woman with principles. Yeah. They just.

What if your entryway is like, oh, like, I live in New York and everyone's rooting for the Knicks, and the Knicks are really good. Like, I'm gonna become a Knicks. I don't know. Like, who cares? You're rooting for the Knicks. Sick.

Just keep rooting for the Knicks.

Yeah. Like, don't, like, now root for, like, I don't know, say, for some reason the warriors become really good again, and you want to become a Warriors fan. That's kind of weird.

Stick with the Knicks. But if, like, if you don't have a basketball team and you watch one go on an incredible run and they become your team. That's not a bandwagon. That's just how your fandom started. I can stand behind that. I think that's fair. I also think that's beautiful. I also think that's more accepting and more welcoming into sports, which we tend to not Be. We go, like, if you don't remember what happened in the 1923 season, then you really aren't a fan at all. And it's like, you weren't even alive, bro. So you read a Wikipedia page. Who cares? Right now, I'm living this, and this is the team I want to root for. So I think that's. I'm down with that.

As an Orioles fan, like, I don't need. I don't need someone to have endured all the pain. Like, if someone just. but, like, to want everyone else to continue to suffocate under the mounds and mounds of student loan debt that we all just signed ourselves onto without fully understanding what it was. To want that for the generations after you is tough. Is a tough look. You should want things to improve. And so I guess that's similar to the bandwagon fan, where you go, I hope nothing but championships for you. I hope.

I want the next generation to not have to watch a half dozen Rodrigo Lopez.

That's exactly right. I want Isabella to have won her first fantasy football season and to win the NBA Finals the same. I want her to get all this early success because I want her to stay here in sports. You just have to promise Isabella to stay humble. Listen, that's never been my strong suit.

We've been talking about the women's College World Series and the timeline of it's kind of off and difficult to talk about, but right now we know the final. It is Texas and Texas Tech. It's actually a rematch in the women's culture. Women's College World Series final as both Texas Tech and reigning champions Texas, they both won back to back win or go home games. In the semifinals, Texas Tech beat Alabama twice. Nija Kennedy, who I came out here and said, you know, she's not really having the green as both season. Incredible game that second game they had to play, which I think started at like 10:09. It was very late. I came home and was like, whoa. They pushed it to another game. She pitched that whole game. Fantastic. So I apologize, I will fix my mouth before speaking about her again. And Texas beat Tennessee twice. Twice. Tegan Kavan got the save in game one and threw a complete game shutout in game two. Now, that being said, the thing we need to focus on and talk about was maybe one of the weirdest stories to come out of, I think most sports recently, but certainly out of this College World Series, a girl on Texas, a woman on a freshman. So I think I can say girl. Hannah Wells revealed to Holly Row on espn, who we love, that she eats ladybugs. Crime for good luck. She said it's a tradition that dates back to when she was a kid growing up in Texas. She said, then everyone on my high school team did it. I mean, a whole team of killers. Just this girl's enemy number one in ladybug ville, wherever they live, it's this lady and they got a picture of her on a dartboard that they just throw darts at because what do you mean you recruited all these people to eat ladybugs? ESPN reached out to an entomologist and that's a bug person.

That's a Bug scientist.

[Katie Nolan]

Great bug scientist. Who said there's probably less than one tenth of a calorie in a lady? Who asked. Wait a second. They reached out to a bug expert to ask what the calorie intake was? I don't think that'd be my first. I don't think that'd be my first question. Anyway, if you were wondering less than a tenth of a calorie. I just accidentally set off, like, a TikTok trend.

We're like, okay, well, now I know what I'm gonna consume as my mid.

Get ready with me as I start my ladybug diet. I've been on the ladybug diet for two weeks now. God, that sounds real, but I know it's scary. Cleared the habit of any likely negative effects besides a less than savory taste. They do have defensive compounds in their blood. I don't know why blood is in quotes. I won't ask. That gives a bitter or foul taste, so most animals avoid eating them. Not this animal. This animal scoops him up and puts him in her mouth anytime she sees one and says, it's good luck. Now, I was told when you see a ladybug, you can't kill it as a. As a lady herself who hates bugs, no offense, I know they're good for us. Please don't spiders eat all the other bugs, okay? I hate them both. I don't want any of them in my house. They're not paying rent, and I want them to leave. Ladybugs are tough because when you see one in your house, you go, well, now I gotta coax this thing out a window, because killing it is very bad luck. I don't know where the wires got crossed for this. For Hannah Wells and thinks that actually eating it doesn't count as killing it. I'd say that's even worse than killing it. Yeah, you're drowning it in stomach acid. Is that when you think the ladybug would die? In the process of being eaten, she's

No, I think. Nope, nope, nope, nope. Yeah, it's like that's the ladybug going up into the. Down the throat. So anyway, that felt like important sports news. I had to put on everybody's mind also. I mentioned Jordi Fromme, the pitcher from Nebraska who had that perfect game, which then was like a no hitter into the fifth inning. And then they. She also had the only run into the sixth, and she also had the only run of that game for her team, and they ended up losing. It was terrible and devastating. And I said, jordy Fromm, just so you know, you're still incredible to me. Well, it turns out she's even more incredible than we had thought because she was pregnant for that. Wow.

Incredible. On Monday, from announced on Instagram she is pregnant and has been for most of her senior season. She's due in December. Backwards math, how many. How I don't be about three months in right now, right?

[Brady]

That is end of first trimester absurd to me.

[Katie Nolan]

Isabella and I found this out yesterday after the radio show and we both were like, would not be me.

[Isabella]

Yeah. No, would not.

[Katie Nolan]

The second I find out, I'd be like, oh, I actually walk around like this even when we're not showing yet, to be like, oh, well, me and the baby couldn't possibly make it to that. We are really tired.

[Isabella]

Thank you, but no, thank you.

[Katie Nolan]

Isabella, you brought up a great point about this. Oh.

[Isabella]

I said, this is what you call a no hitter. Because what was it with that team? Was it the Astros, where it was like, oh, the combined no hitter? And I was like, oh, that doesn't really count when it's more than one person. I guess technically there isn't.

[Katie Nolan]

I actually think this is the only combined no hitter that I would expect. Which is if the other person who's participating in the no hitter with you is actively working against your body's ability to throw a no hitter, I would actually say that's. That is a combined no hitter. I would be impressed by much more so than just another pitcher helping you out by not letting anybody get any hits. That's not the same as this. This woman was hosting a person. Forming one. Forming one. I almost said in her belly. And I didn't want people to go. That's not science. You know what I mean? You know, like a stork. The stork was actively bringing her a baby. Baby. That's how it works, right? The bird drops, it Off.

Yes, congrats. She's married to former Nebraska baseball pitcher Trey Fromm. So that's as the soft high school softball starting pitcher who was dating the high school baseball starting pitcher.

So be sure to tune into that. Going to be intense. Texas Tech. Texas. I also saw Mia Williams's dad, Jason Williams. They've stopped with the content for the final like series. They will not be doing content from the and so I don't think that was us. I don't think that was our effect. But I was happy to hear that news. That felt like the stepping back that we were kind of hoping all of the dads would do. At least Jason Williams has done it ahead of the final championship series.

I went down such a deep rabbit hole of watching Jason Williams highlights the other day. Really, as soon as we did that story. That man was nuts.

So he had the one in the Rising Stars game. I think his sophomore year he was. Was just on a fast break, did the behind the back pass and then swung his right elbow back and reversed it the other way off of the back of his elbow for a no looker to the guy for the wide open layup on the left side.

Okay. And then we got to talk soccer because guys, it's. It's creeping up like a doctor's appointment. You don't want to go to the World Cup. Creeping up. It's like right here and it's going to be upon us and we're hyped. Listen, I know I joke. The headlines around the World cup have been very negative, very infrastructure based and so it's hard to go like, yay, this is totally going to work out. I feel good about inviting the world into America right now and playing a sport we tend to not care about or do all that great at in men's soccer. I'm very excited. I love a World cup in general. I love being outside at a bar, at a watch party, bonding with people suddenly caring about, like, you know, Belgium playing against New Zealand in a way that I normally wouldn't, but I will. And it's just the fact that it's here is making it a little stressful at the same time. But did you guys see the men's team beat Senegal in their first friendly? And that's good. I don't know that we necessarily would have thought that was gonna happen. Three, two. The final score.

Remind me when friendly is again.

It's when two teams play against each other and it's not really for anything. It's not part of the tournament. It's just like a friendly match. So they just like an exhibition. Yeah, it's like a warm up and exhibition. It counts towards nothing, but it's just to get, you know, their World cup legs under them. Senegal ranked number 19 in the Elo world rankings, which I assume is the Electric Light Orchestra. And then the United states ranks number 36. So that's, you know, we should. We were not the favorite there. June six, we've got our last friendly versus Germany. They're number 10, ranked by that band that your dad likes. And June 12th is the first World cup game. That's against Paraguay, who is ranked number 22. So we are not ranked high and. But, but we did win that friendly, which again means nothing. But it's gotta mean something.

[Brady]

It could have been like five, two. It had two goals called back. It. They really played well. They actually played well.

[Katie Nolan]

You watched it? Yeah, me too.

[Brady]

He was electric, like right off the top. Had an assist and a goal all in the first half. Like he hadn't scored all year. There were worries about him and just erased that immediately.

[Katie Nolan]

Well, yeah, erased. He scores one goal in a friendly and now the worries are all gone.

Gotta, you know, you gotta get on the board.

Yeah, true. That is true. I don't know if all my worries are gone, but at least I don't have to worry about how to say his name. Because it's Pulisic. And we all know that. Team USA had to move the start of their training camp up by a week. They moved it in the spring from June 1st was when they were supposed to start to May 25th. So they moved it back a week. The reason they gave is they wanted more time to prepare, which move it back two weeks. Then I don't know. A week doesn't feel like, thank God we got that one extra week. It really made the difference. I'll tell you who it made a difference to, and that's winger Brendan Aronson, who had been planning a wedding for more than two years that just so happened to be May 30th. Mm. Now, I guess you could say maybe you shouldn't have planned it for the day right before they were 30 days has September, April, June and November. So May 30, May had 31st, but it's like two days before you got a report. And so it's. It is cutting it a little close. But again, that didn't matter because they moved it back a week. So it was directly conflicted. He offered to move his wedding, which everybody agreed, not a good idea, including the coach Pochettino. He said this is. So this is what Aronson's week ended up looking like. Okay. Sunday, May 24, he finished his Premier League season. He played for Leeds United and he flew straight to New York City for roster announcement on Monday. Monday, he flew from NYC to Atlanta for the start of training camp. That's May 25th. Then Thursday the 28th, he flew to Philadelphia and took an 80 minute car to Manahock in New Jersey and got to his own rehearsal dinner. 90 minutes late. It goes over well, which I guess is something good to rehearse. What if the groom's 90 minutes late? Just worth, you know, knowing what the plan is. Then Friday, May 29, he got married. Left at 2:30am to take a car back to Philadelphia to catch the first flight Saturday morning to Atlanta. Geez. And then Saturday, May 30, he trained with Team USA in Atlanta, then flew to Charlotte for the Senegal friendly that we spoke of. And then Sunday, May 31, USA beat Senegal 3 to 2. Aronson did not play. Just let him stay home. What I mean, and I get it, I get it. Not everybody gets to play all the time. But I feel like if that's the. If you're not gonna play him, just. Buddy, we'll just see on the other side. We'll see at the second friendly. Come Play against Germany or not play. Come, come. Not play when we play Germany. But to go through all. That's, like, real dedication. Yeah, that's, like, real dedication. And credit to his wife, former Temple soccer player Milana Dombra. They do not have a honeymoon planned at the Mom. I assume you just wait to see what happens and then. And then go. I guess, probably. Yeah. I don't. I. And this is why I haven't planned my wedding, because I just. You never know if someone's gonna move something back a week, and then, Ugh, I'm stuck running from place to place. So I'm just gonna keep putting it off just a little bit longer.

I suffered a patellar tendon rupture.

It popped off like a bridge cable in a disaster movie kind of basically.

Playing basketball. Non contact injury for the hoop heads. For the real hoop heads. It's the exact injury that Moses Moody of the Golden State warriors had this season. Victor Oladipo had it a few years ago. Basically the meaty bit that connects in Katie's start. Katie's vomit counter. Just. Could we get that in the corner of the screen?

Crazy.

And that's me trying to soften it. I know you're squeamish about this.

Yeah. I had just actually told JP that I couldn't watch the pit because I'm too. I can't handle hearing about people's. But I do want to hear about yours. So I'm going to take deep breaths and you're going to tell us about the meaty bit in your knee.

It's. It's. So first of all, the patellar tendon is the Scottie Pippen of your knee. It's the most underrated, essential part of your knee. Because we do.

We talk a lot about the acl. We talk about the mcl.

never talk about what whole is that.

What holds the Steve Kerr is the meniscus. It connects your tibia, your kneecap and your. No, yeah, your tibia, which is the shin and the patella. The kneecap.

So for whatever reason, it's a. It's a tendon. Even though it connects bone to bone. So it's a. Which should be a ligament. I'm not going to get into the hard science of this.

But I was. I got it the same way as Moses Moody got a steal because defense wins championships. Fast break. Taking it hard to the hole. Planted on my left leg. Felt like I got shot with a BB gun right in the soft tissue of my knee. Hit the ground and just started blaming people. Just started pointing at other people in the comedian's game on Sunday, like, you did this. You.

That's what it was. It was a game with other comedians.

Yeah.

[Katie Nolan]

And so you're like. You were trying to take my dates. You're taking me down. Cause you feel me on your heels.

And for the last few days while the Knicks have been between sweep and the start of this series, I've been tamping my wild psychotic emotions down and I've been repressing myself because I know I'm gonna say things that are out of line. I know at some point I'm gonna post the picture of Chris Childs punching Kobe Bryant in the jaw for no reason. Lakers aren't even playing. I'm going to do stuff like that. I'm going to say things like I've said like, like the Knicks would sweep the 96 bulls and I'm gonna start to believe it more and more. I need to. I'm just checking myself, I'm meditating, I'm centering myself, getting within because the, the nerves are real. The nerves are absolutely real. That's right. We turned down the, we turned, we turned down the banner. But I mean, I love this team so much. I love this Knicks. It's like they rule on a friendship level, on a heart level. Not just Josh Hart, but the heart that they play with. The, I mean, making the little plays, getting the offensive rebounds, blocking shots, taking charges, stuff like that, winning basketball stuff, it's everything we've, we've dreamt of. So like the fear is that much more ramped up. Cause it's like for a decade plus, we were saying we're one great point guard away from like being a championship contender team and now we have it and there's like a fear in getting everything that you want. It's like, ah, is this gonna be proven false? Is this gonna be proven true? We don't know. But the irrational belief is at an all time high right now.

I think game one, we're gonna learn a lot. I feel like people are just waiting to see what happens in game one. It's a little stressful.

And they have built physically at Carolina's arena a phone booth. Like, kids listening to this are like, I don't even know what that is, but it's just a place where you can go pick up the phone and basically inviting Carolina fans to talk smack

to Vegas, Superman, the Matrix, things like that. We could get the young people to understand their uses for that.

And so they. And then they play on the pregame show a sort of highlight reel of all of the best chirps. They call it the chirp line. All the best chirps they got from fans. And here's the thing, they were okay. But the idea of the segment and what you're looking for sort of runs incongruously with a broadcast of A game. And you can imagine ESPN sort of have. Couldn't use any of the ones that were.

It was amateur hour. It was probably like pure authenticity of these fans, while appreciated, was not TV friendly.

Yes. And so most of the best ones probably didn't make it in. And instead we got a couple of like, lukewarm. There was a couple, like, little kids going, like, I don't.

Which is great stuff.

It's just it felt like for a game where before the game on the Jumbotron, Carolina literally wrote, everyone hates you, Vegas. There was not enough heat in the chirp line for me. And I imagine it's because it all got edited out.

All of this is a long setup to say that I would love if you could call the chirp line. You don't have to do it here, but the goal is to try to get on the broadcast because you have this ability to be funny and sharp, but also still playing within the rules of, like, not getting your call dumped on the radio.

It's the worst. And that's when you can drive and you can park and you can tailgate.

Right. But not everybody has to. And now everybody literally has to.

I know I talk about it a lot and people that don't live here are probably like can you please move on. But I'm truly gonna be like parked outside of Penn Station just going, let's watch how this works.

These games better start at 9 in the morning. Here's why. Cause you're gonna have a fully pedestrian tailgate. The infrastructure does not allow for everyone to get there right before game time. People are going to have to get there seven, eight hours before the game. It's just going to be constant, no driving, tailgating for the entire day leading up to the game. Recipe for disaster. It is going to look like woodstock99 in the parking lot. It's going to be out of control.

Tailgating not allowed.

So it's not allowed?

So what are people going to do? They're gonna get to the arena and just sit.

Theory is they will just get there four hours early and then sit.

They're gonna have to have like those little fan event obstacle course type of things.

They have to just to slow down the pigs as they go towards the slaughter. Like there's just no.

[JP McDade]

Just a temple grand in these hogs to get them ready.

[Katie Nolan]

You can't dump this. And also we're forgetting about the people who came in from internationally that thought the game was in New York because it's called the New York game. It's us. I know to us, it's obvious that the stadium isn't. But I wouldn't know that if I were coming from another country. I just wouldn't have the understanding of what that meant.

You wouldn't even have to cross state lines.

[Katie Nolan]

You wouldn't know it's in a marsh. You wouldn't know it's really not walkable to get to in any way marsh. It's crazy. And no tailgate.

[JP McDade]

Bring him in from all the sports. Bring in like the. The. The baseball thing where you throw on a radar gun. Bring in the football stuff where you, like, run the 40 yard dash against your friend. We're gonna have to have activities for these people.

[Katie Nolan]

Yeah, we do. We have to.

My God, you save up. You're a. You're a humble working class family from deep in Queens. Finally, our country, Honduras, playing in the World cup right in our backyard. You save up, up all your money to go, and you got to just go there and be hungry all day waiting for the game to start because all you can.

Yeah. That is a sick hang. We found a guy to root for. If you're looking for anybody, I can give you this. Okay, so there's a defender. New Zealand defender Tim Payne has become an unlikely soccer star.

He was Hillary Clinton's running mate. 2020, I believe.

And he goes by T Pain. And he's actually also was on the Masked Singer, a show that has made it into. How many effing seasons of that show have we had?

It's one of those deals where it's been on for 10 years, but there's like 40 seasons.

It's crazy. I. When I first heard that show, I was like, no way that lasts over here. And it's thriving.

And America has spoken.

It's thriving. Oh, my God. 14 seasons. All right, well, Tim Paine, really not any of those things we were joking about. He has become an unlikely soccer superstar after an influencer from Argentina called on his followers to unite and make the little known 32 year old a hero of the upcoming World Cup. El Scarzo, a soccer influencer also known as Valen Scarcini, identified Payne as the least known player at the World Cup.

Oh, they missed her. Irrelevant at him.

[Katie Nolan]

Yes. Based on his social media following, Payne had around 4,700 followers on Instagram last week.

[JP McDade]

Wow.

[Katie Nolan]

And he now has 4.7 million followers. Just to show everybody how much people outside of America care or outside of the United States care about soccer, he thousand xed. Yeah. Because somebody, a soccer influencer, was like, let's root for this guy. And everybody went, yeah, all right, we'll do it.

[JP McDade]

He's probably gonna be like, rich forever. Because some random influencer was like, I like this guy.

[Katie Nolan]

This guy is nothing to me. And everyone went, he'll be nothing to me as well.

[JP McDade]

Yeah, he'll be nothing to us all.

Yeah. And so Tim Payne is who we're. He's a defender for New Zealand. And I guess we're rooting for him because. Because. Because if he can do it, we can all do it.

It's gonna be a weird, like, six, seven thing where like every time he touches the ball, it's just gonna be a huge ovation, probably. Tip aid.
