Katie Nolan
with Liberty Mutual, even if it means
Brady
sitting front row at a comedy show.
Chris
Hey, everyone, check out this guy and his bird.
Katie Nolan
What is this your first date? Oh, no.
Brady
We help people customize and save on car insurance with Liberty Mutual together.
Katie Nolan
We're married. Me to a human, him to a bird. Yeah, the bird looks out of your league.
Brady
Anyways, get a quote@libertymutual.com or with your local agent.
Chris
Liberty. Liberty.
Katie Nolan
Liberty. Liberty. Hey, Isabella, did you see that? What? Was a Twitter account? Sicko's committee. They are trying that committee too. You are? I. I knew you were up for it, but I didn't know if you got it.
Isabella
Yeah, I'm actually the leader.
Katie Nolan
Oh, my God. Well, then I. Then you know this one already. I shouldn't tell you, but I'll tell our listeners. Well, they don't.
Isabella
They don't add me to the emails.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so I'll just. I'll just. Let me just finish it and we'll see what happens. They're trying to account for how many MLB stadiums will allow you to bring inside a one gallon Ziploc bag full of spaghetti.
Isabella
You can do that?
Katie Nolan
Well, a number of stadiums will allow you to do that. Now, there are 30 teams in professional baseball. How many stadiums do you think will let you bring in again, a one gallon Ziploc bag full of. I assume cooked and sauced spaghetti sauce is liquid, but it's mixed in, so it's. It's a.
Isabella
You never know what you could do with that liquid, though.
Katie Nolan
But we're looking for a number, Isabella.
Isabella
Okay, I'm so sorry. Let's do. Let's do 15.
Katie Nolan
Okay. It's actually higher than that.
Isabella
23.
Katie Nolan
That's exactly it. Is it really?
Isabella
Dude, I lead the Sickos community.
Katie Nolan
I know, I know. I didn't know you were head Sicko. You were Chief Sicko 23. Now, Brady, does that. Do any of them jump out at you as, like, camp? Like, does Cincinnati allow you to bring spaghetti? They cost.
Brady
Cincinnati does. I don't know if they let you bring the chili, but at least you can bring the spaghetti and throw the chili on it. Damn, this gives me jumped out to me. The Yankees will let you bring a bag of spaghetti in, huh?
Katie Nolan
They're letting them do anything. The rules have gone out the window over there.
Isabella
Aren't they really strict with rules?
Katie Nolan
Well, now you can have facial hair. Now they're going to put names on jerseys, I think, or they're going to do something with their jerseys once they
Brady
put the insurance company patch on the jersey. And all the traditionalists went crazy.
Katie Nolan
So bring in your spaghetti, I guess. Who doesn't?
Brady
The Mets won't let you do it.
Katie Nolan
Oh, come on. What if we were real nice about it?
Isabella
I know that's annoying.
Katie Nolan
What is the reason that people give. I think it's crazy you can at all, but the fact that mostly you can.
Brady
I think it started out as a venture of assuming that you couldn't most places and then 23 stadiums have been like, yeah, come on in.
Katie Nolan
Interesting. That could save a lot of money because, you know, those concessions are not cheap.
Brady
You try to get a gallon of spaghetti inside most ballparks, it's gonna cost you a lot.
Isabella
Have we seen any fan cams of anyone slurping spaghetti?
Katie Nolan
Good question. And we must have.
Brady
Oh, there's photographic evidence.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Because I was like, yeah.
Isabella
How do we not know this?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Well, maybe we should just be bringing. I should be bringing a bag of spaghetti with me more often. Everywhere I go.
Isabella
I'll come next recording.
Katie Nolan
You'll bring a bag of spaghetti. If you don't, I'm gonna be upset.
Isabella
Okay. All right, well, I don't know how it's gonna trans.
Katie Nolan
Never mind. Start the podcast.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Hello. Hi, and welcome to Casuals, a sports podcast that loves sports and wants you to love them too. We don't care what you know. We'll try to tell you all of it. I'm Katie Nolan. I'm your host. Joined today briefly here up top by my casualties, it is the production crew here at Sirius xm. We have Isabella, our sports newbie.
Isabella
Hello.
Katie Nolan
We've got Chris, our master editor.
Producer Chris
What's up?
Katie Nolan
And Brady. Hey, Sick.
Brady
How's it going?
Katie Nolan
Oh, so good. Casuals at katienolan@gmail.com. 646-801-0043 Call and leave us a voicemail. We're going to be doing a some pre tapes for the summer and we're going to be using phone Calls and emails. So if you've got good ones that are like, you know, evergreen, that aren't like, about a game that just happened, but are just theoretical or hypothetical or whatever, more existential questions about sports, call us up or email us so we can get to those over the summer. And then on IG and Tick Tock, we are at casual as the podcast. We have a lot to get to today. We have a guest. Stephen Coletti is here. Guys, Steven. Steven from Laguna Beach. I may be aging myself here, but he comes in, we're gonna talk. He's got a new show called Everyone is Doing great, which is on Netflix. And come to find out he's like a certified ball knower because we talked quite a bit about sports. We also talk about, like, Traders. He's got a lot of interesting stuff on Traders and the fact that people used to call the surf shop that he worked at, not me, you know, just people. So we talk about that. We're gonna get to that in a little bit. We're also, I know people are probably here going like, are we going to talk about what happened? And in the Celebrity Jeopardy. Semifinals. Sorry, Celebrity Jeopardy. All Star semifinals that aired last night, where I am, it was Tuesday the 12th this week between myself, Lisa Ann Walter, who you'll remember, beat me in my Celebrity Jeopardy final last time I did Celebrity Jeopardy. And Mina Kimes, my, like, best friend. So, yes, we are gonna talk about it, but we're gonna talk about it in the email section at the end of the show because you guys had few quite a, quite a bit to write in and ask about and I'll answer your questions and stuff and we can talk about it at the end of the show. I just want to state up top,
Brady
we just got yelled at last time for spoilers. So everyone right now, if you haven't watched it and want to, I don't know, skip ahead, watch it.
Katie Nolan
Just watch it and then. And yeah, we're ahead in the pot
Brady
a couple minutes or watch the show and then wait. Why?
Katie Nolan
We're not. But we're not talking about it right now. We're gonna talk about at the end.
Brady
I just want to make sure everybody
Katie Nolan
knows before I say so. We're not going to spoil it. But I did just want to say October. I filmed this in October. I have been sitting from October until today, thinking, ruminating, playing over hating this game and how it went, knowing how it went, knowing I couldn't say anything to anyone. Interacting with Mina at the super bowl, having a bet with her with Our two teams of who would win when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl. I think I sent. Remember the. We had a bet and I had to send her a video. My video was like, listen, do you want to take my boyfriend next? What else do you want from me? Why are you coming? For everything I love. So anyway, we will get to that at the end of the show. Up top here. We've got a lot to get to and a couple things. Look, we're not really the podcast that's going to focus too much on. On. On sad stories, but I did want to mention, I would be remiss without mentioning two kind of tragic stories that we've been following over the last couple days that happened in sports. The first being Jason Collins. Jason Collins, the NBA's first openly gay player who served as a global ambassador for the sport for the past decade, died of brain cancer, his family said on Tuesday. He was 47. In their statement, they said. We are heartbroken to share that Jason Collins, our beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, has died after a valiant fight with. Why would I set myself up to pronounce. Is it glioblastoma?
Brady
It looks right.
Katie Nolan
Sounds. Sounds right. I think Jason changed lives in unexpected ways and was an inspiration to all who knew him and to those who admired him from afar. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers over the last eight months and for the exceptional medical care Jason received from his doctors and nurses. Our family will miss him dearly. Jason Collins had a 13 year career, including stops at the Nets, Memphis, Minnesota, Atlanta, Boston and Washington. He retired in 2014, announced he was gay in a 2013 Sports Illustrated cover story, which, I mean, I can't understate what a huge deal that was for him to do and how. And you know, just what an incredible moment that was and how strong it was of him to. To stand up and do that. He was the first publicly gay athlete to play in any of the four main North American sports leagues. And since we have had a couple after, um, and. And it just was a huge. Just a. I don't know. I'm. Jason Collins was very brave and very important and brain cancer sounds like an absolute nightmare. And so we're very sad to hear that Jason Collins died also. Brandon Clark. Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clark has died. He was 29. We found this out on Tuesday from the team, his agency and the NBA. Neither the Grizzlies nor Clark's agency provided any details about his death. I've seen a lot of speculation and we're not going to get into any of that. Keeping an eye on it. It's tragic. It's very sad. And our thoughts are with their families and all affected. Okay. Just felt like I needed to get those out there so that we are all on the same page. I also want to mention the NFL schedule release is later this week. That comes out on Thursday. There have been leaks, quote, unquote leaks all week of like, oh, this game. And oh, this game. Those don't feel. I don't. That doesn't feel like a leak to me. That feels like they're just going, we'll lead with these ones. And then all the teams can put out their little videos.
Brady
They're trying to get a whole birthday week out of this.
Katie Nolan
I'm just enough of the schedule. Just tell me when the games are. Okay. I don't need whatever this is. But obviously in the last few years. Isabella, have we ever covered this with you? Over the last few years, it's become a trend where these teams, their social teams will put together some sort of creative way of announcing their schedule to their. To their fans.
Isabella
I didn't know that.
Katie Nolan
And I think it's mainly because we've been audio, but so it's not really worth. And they're, they're fun at first. And every now and then you'll get a cute like, oh, I love that idea. And I don't want to be that lady who ruins everybody's fun. But it's just like the chief. Do you see what the Chiefs did for their early one where they announced like the. The teams they would be playing and they did it with like sourdough bread and really bad Photoshop? Oh, and it was like, I don't need this.
Brady
You know, is there anything less useful than just announcing the teams you would be playing, but not when.
Katie Nolan
Not the order of the. It's like, yeah, I'm gonna play the teams in the NFL. So just so you know, just to help you narrow it down. But I, I am kind of interested this year. Number one, is anyone going to mention the elephant in the room? Are any of these. Because sometimes they make pop culture references. And I do wonder if any NFL schedule release video going to dip its toe in the water of addressing the story everyone's been on the Internet at least talking about in the NFL, which would be V. Rossini. And then my other thing that I am keeping an eye on. How many of these teams use AI for this? How many of these teams are we going to catch out here in the Street AI generating their schedule release video. A thing we didn't even care about, they made us care about by going, we're going to be creative around this to then immediately outsource the creativity. I think we should name and shame any team that does that. So head on a swivel, stay woke, keep your eyes open, and let's get a report. Maybe we'll do like a marked safe from AI after all of the schedule release has come out. Maybe next week we can go through every franchise and just really shame the ones who decide to use AI because a lot of sports accounts have been coming out and being like, this account will never use AI.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
I'm like, oh, cool. I like that. I've also seen a lot of accounts, Indiana Fever use AI in their. In their graphics. So it's. And they're not alone.
Brady
Clark doesn't have one arm that's nine feet long.
Katie Nolan
She might. She could. Okay. And then another quick update. This is all before we start the podcast. We're 15 minutes in. Last update. I think last episode I did the misinformation in sports online and how to stay, you know, whatever. There. A new one has hit my timeline that I just want to flag. We don't have to spend a lot of time on it, but this one's probably affecting your dad. Okay. This one's probably hitting your dad's timeline. Also possible your child, a male child, I would think. There is a new thing I've noticed where it's just the hottest woman you've ever seen at a baseball game. She's AI. She is a. It's either a real person who has AI generated a video of themselves at a baseball game, which I saw. I hate this sentence, but I'll just say it and we'll breeze past it. I won't be explaining. I saw a woman from one of the popular Bob houses on Tick Tock post a video of her at a game and everyone going like, oh, my God, this is so beautiful. You look so beautiful. First of all, the shots are too gorgeous. They look a lot like the cameras that go out into the crowd and find one, I guess one hot lady, if it's Brent Musburger who's in the booth. But also just like fans, it looks like those kind of cameras, but the person looks gorgeously perfect, fully beautiful makeup, fully beat face with like a. With their hair done and they're just eating something and like, looking right into the camera, just having a nice time. And I just want to say, those aren't real. These Girls aren't real. A lot of comments going, like, love to see beauty at America Pastime, and, wow, girls like that are never at the games I'm at. And it's like, well, because that's physically impossible for it to be the seventh inning and for her hair and makeup to be that perfect. She's been here for hours. And so just. Just flagging that for you guys, that seems to be a new trend, and I think it's because of the Americana of the baseball that they want to see some hot, sexy lady at a baseball case.
Brady
My dad ever runs into that on his algorithm.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Brady type.
Brady
You know, in case my dad runs
Katie Nolan
into it, I did bring this up, assuming that maybe this sort of content is being served right up for you.
Brady
And so it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one seeing this.
Katie Nolan
They're not real people. Yeah, they're not real people. Or if they are real people, it's not a real video. They didn't go to a. Go to the baseball. It's. That's my thing is like, hey, Bob House, take a trip to the. To the baseball game. Go watch a baseball game. Don't get the. That's stupid. Anyway, I don't know why me?
Brady
Probably closest to Angels games, so.
Katie Nolan
Oh, and they're not allowed in there. Is what you're trying to say, is what you're trying to suggest, like, Angels go. Have you been good? Like it's Christmas. You on the naughty list. A Bob House. What is that? Okay, we are moving on now. Let's talk about the playoffs. Let's start with some hockey. I love to start the show off with some hockey. The Sabers and the Canadians. That was game four.
Chris
Four.
Katie Nolan
It is now tied to two that series. Buffalo won this game in Montreal, which was absolutely huge for them. They won 3, 2 in Montreal. Like I just said, kind of a controversial and weird game. I don't know how much you guys were watching, but there was a goal in the first period that was reviewed for. I don't have the time in front of me. I'll say an hour. I'll say they spent an hour of this game reviewing if a goal went in. Now, Isabella, what happened was the puck went into the goalie's glove, but the goalie's glove moved back behind as the puck went in behind the goal line. But for whatever reason, the video didn't definitively show where the puck was when it crossed. And so they were, like, checking every angle, and the broadcast was like, I think it's going to be called a goal. So they finally come back from this big deliberation and they go, it's a goal. So, okay, that makes it what, two nothing Sabers, I believe. And then as soon as that happens, the Canadians go, if that's a goal, I want to call goalie interference on it. So they challenged. So the refs, who just spent an hour deliberating this call, which the crowd is restless, they make the announcement that it's a goal. It's the home crowd is pissed cuz it's in Montreal. Then the Montreal team goes, we want to challenge it. We think there's two instances of goalie interference, which is basically, if anybody gets in that little blue semicircle in front of the nets called the crease, if you impede the goalies movement and keep them from being able to make a save, that's goalie interference. And the Canadian said that there were two guys from the Sabers who were in that crease and impeding upon their goaltender. They go and review that with all the refs. They come back and they say, yeah, there was goalie interference. Take the goal away.
Isabella
And how long did that?
Katie Nolan
Like an three hours. It felt like the fact that they waited so long to go, we've decided it is a goal. Yeah. What you should be doing. And I know this isn't how it works, but it feels like you should go, it was a goal. But actually we noticed while reviewing the tape that there were two guys interfering with the goalie. So we've actually reviewed the goal and come back with the. It would have been a goal if you guys weren't interfering. But it's the fact that we got to do this in between where they go. We only looked at the puck the first time. Now that you're challenging, we got to go back and look again. Oh, look, it actually does invalidate the goal.
Brady
And so 2026, man, it's.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's just kind of a frustrating. I mean, luckily the Sabers ended up winning. There was another goal. Tage Thompson. Boo. Tage Thompson's goal was from like the blue line. He like flicked the puck gently. This has happened a couple times in this NHL playoffs and it's been very frustrating, I imagine, for everybody watching. But it like banked off either the boards or the glass and then came back. Isabella, it came. You're the goalie, right? So the action is mostly in front of you. This puck bounced off the glass from behind the goalie and then hit the back of his leg and then went into the net. It's like, what do you mean? It was a fluke, an absolute fluke.
Isabella
I would be petty and I would just keep challenging. I'm like, oh, you want to challenge?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I'd like to challenge. Let's make this game last five hours. That's right. And I'd like to challenge that for being a bunch of. Okay, I couldn't see that puck. And so it was kind of a crazy game. There was like luck. It's moving around because it seemed like it was lucky for Buffalo, but then they obviously had the unluckiness of being called for the. And then Zach Benson ended up scoring the go ahead goal on the power play early in the third period. He became the 13th player in NHL history and the first Sabers player to score a game winning goal in the playoffs on his birthday. Isn't that cute? I know he's a little. He's a little rat, that Zach Benson. My goodness. But he turned 21, so I bet he drank right after that. His very first beer. And how exciting for him to have his very first ever beer after a game winning goal. Game 5 in that series is Thursday on TNT. So that is tonight when the audio comes out. And again the series is tied. 2, 2. And the winner there will face Carolina, who are on vacation. I feel like they've been done. They're undefeated in the postseason. They've swept the. Who? The Senators and then they swept the Flyers. I'm so sorry, buddy. I like to block his ears anytime we.
Brady
DJ and Pete being in Montreal for that game was a fun follow on socials. Just watching them out at a Habs.
Katie Nolan
D.J. pete and Sean. Right? Sean was. Had to also be there because Sean is the actual Sabers fan.
Brady
DJ and Pete from the what? Chaos pod.
Katie Nolan
Yes. And I guess Sean got recognized by like Sabers fan. Sabers players. And I was like, that's sick. DJ sent me a text. He's like, I know you would appreciate this. I was like, let's go.
Isabella
Also, what's habs?
Katie Nolan
Habs is habitant. Lays habitant. Right. Is the French word for Canadians. So they are the Montreal Canadians. And a word for a Canadian is like someone who lives here, I guess, which would be Les Habitants. So they are the. We call them the Habs for short. Because calling them the cans, you know, there's a different. It's just a different imagery. I love the cans. It's like, well, you and everybody.
Brady
Two names that end in S. Portland Fire.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, true. Speaking of, I guess, women and speaking of Montreal we'll smush those together and we'll talk women's hockey. The Victoire have advanced to the their first ever Walter cup final. So congrats to the Montreal Victoire in the pwhl. Well. But they eliminated the Minnesota Frost. They won in game five with a 21 win in their semi final round. That was on Tuesday. And they will now go on to face the Ottawa Charge in the final. Because the Charge of course beat the Boston Fleet, my team, in the other semi final matchup. So the Fleet are out. I also was just telling Isabella the other night I was partaking in some extracurricular activities. You know, like not drinking but the other thing. And I, and I, and I went and I was like, I'm gonna buy some fleet merch. I need fleet merch. I'm like repping them verbally, but I'm doing nothing them physically. And so I spent quite a bit of money on a, on some fleet merch. And then now I can't even find evidence I did that. You know, normally you get a, you get an email from the website that's like, thanks for your order. I got a thanks from your order. Thanks for your order from this website. But when I click on it, even the. This is even more feing. The preview of the email, it says like some info about your order. When I click on it, it just goes like, here's all the things we've done for the environment as a company. And I go, hey. And while I love that where what's my tracking number? What's my order number? Because for a while there I was screen grabbing. Anytime I took made an order, I would screen grab the order number to be like, don't lose this, whatever. And then after enough years of having to delete those out of my phone, I was like, they always send an email. You don't have to do this anymore. It's like clapping when the plane lands. We've grown out of this. So just let them send you the email. And now I have no evidence that I spent over $200 on fleet merch. I haven't seen it. It has not shown up. I think I got scammed.
Brady
This is the problem I have is when I partake and shop, I end up just ordering things from Instagram ads.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. And it's not a good idea. And there's really no vetting process. You can tell sometimes it's legitimate and you get the most complimented item in your wardrobe. Like I did. I got a jacket from Instagram that I'm like, people love this. And then sometimes you just never hear from the company again and you have to cancel that credit card. So I guess we'll find out.
Brady
And once I'm up, sound mind, I'm like, yeah, of course I wasn't going to get a 39 Adley Rushman authentic jersey like this. I really got to see through the
Katie Nolan
issue of the substances for me is that they make me go, 200 for. This is a steal. I'm just gonna spend it. And then I wake up and I go, you didn't need this. And now their season's over and I didn't even get to win it. So fantastic. But if we can go back to that Montreal series really quickly, because you may have. This may have hit your news. Just because people are getting scared about getting sick again. It's kind of a fun thing we're doing here in America for any of our international listeners who don't know. We are so simultaneously petrified of another pandemic situation and another lockdown and just all of the effects and things that rolled out from that and. And also not good at letting people calm down. And so it feels like the news has been a lot of medical experts going, this isn't the same as corona. While it is scary and a scary virus, this hantavirus that happened on this cruise ship or whatever, it doesn't transmit as easily from human to human, so we are not in a real state of emergency or shock. And then right after that, the news comes on and they go, hantavirus, what you need to know. And it's like, I thought I just found out what I need to know. And that it's nothing, but they need to get you to watch the news. It's a real issue. And so when we found out that Game five, which was initially scheduled for Monday in this series, was being postponed to Tuesday due to illness, player safety concerns related to an illness. Those tweets went everywhere. People were like, what do you mean? Is this the PWHL version of Rudy Gobert, which is a Bella context for that?
Isabella
No.
Katie Nolan
When Covid was happening Rudy Gobert in a press conference, I believe, joking about how he doesn't care about the virus or whatever, touched every microphone in the press conference. Oh, I remember, Brady. Everybody's going to get sick now. And then it wasn't probably his fault, but like a day or two later, they're canceling NBA games. And it was like a not great. And so everybody was wondering, is this that moment of like, oops, we're about to Remember when we thought hantavirus was nothing? And so then a bunch of tweets were coming out being like, hey, this has nothing to do with hantavirus. To which most people correctly were going. Maybe mention that when you tweet about an illness, because. An illness postponing a playoff game. Have we ever.
Isabella
And it's not because they're so ill, guys.
Katie Nolan
No. It's not because they're just sick. Nasty with it. It's not because they have Saucy Paw. It is. It was because they had a stomach bug. And I. I just don't. I think that hearing that an illness was canconing a playoff game made people go, well, then it must be huge. I feel like maybe, Brady, is this just an instance where it. You know, women's hockey, a growing sport. The pwhl, a growing league. And if five was it, five or six of their players are out with the same stomach bug, it would just be an unfair. It would be. You don't have the depth. Is that what it is?
Brady
Yeah, because it was all. It was all Montreal players. I know the athletic reported that it was all Montreal. Wasn't. Wasn't anyone on the Minnesota side. So, yeah, I guess it's a competitive disadvantage, but really, yeah, it's probably got to be. It has to be a safety issue or. You just can't put that many women out there for that many minutes, maybe otherwise.
Katie Nolan
But if I was. I'm. I'm a Minnesota fan. I'm pissed. I'm pissed. Play the game we were supposed to play. Sorry, your. Your top line can't play. Maybe they should stop, I don't know, eating. Eating at a Benihana. What do you. Where do we think what happened? Was it a virus or was this just a. They were.
Brady
I think once we found out it wasn't hantavirus, he stopped following.
Katie Nolan
I know.
Brady
Actual bugs because everybody did dress the following night. So everybody was fine a night later. Which makes you think probably food poisoning.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Which is tough. And they are probably all eating meals together. So that would also explain why it would affect a bunch of them at the same time. I just wonder what the threshold is that you have to meet to get the game canceled. Sick enough to get the game cancelled, but I don't know. It's not the hantavirus, so don't freak out. Okay. The Frost had won in 2024 and 2025. So this is their. Their dynasty ending. And what a way for it to end. It's kind of a bummer, but game one of the finals against Ottawa Thursday night tonight at 7 Eastern on Ion. So I. Will it also be on YouTube or. No? Probably just on Ion.
Brady
I think this is just Ion all of the.
Katie Nolan
Throughout the season. The season. You can watch them for free on YouTube. I wonder if because it's on ION now you can't. But either way, that's Thursday, 7 Eastern on ion. Be sure to check it out. That should be an awesome series. We also want to talk about a couple slumps being broken. Last year, we talked a lot about Big Dumper, Big Dumper, Big Dumper, Cal Raleigh from Seattle Mariners this year. Big slumper. Okay. He was over 38 and people were starting to go, hey, ooh. What's up with Cal Raleigh? Well, he found a way to break his slump. And historically, baseball players, they always find a really interesting way to do this. And that's me being. That's using kind language, right? Because mostly they're like, not. They're not. They're unwell thoughts. They're like. It's crazy the things they think of to try to break out 51 of
Brady
the time they're putting on some kind of thong.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Yeah.
Brady
It involves underwear most of the time.
Katie Nolan
Isabella, your thoughts?
Isabella
Sorry, what?
Katie Nolan
So a lot of times to break a slump, you know, maybe you'd put on like a thong, like a woman's underwear as opposed to your usual underpants. Wait, just because you could try it. Nobody has to know.
Brady
Might as well you like. Something has to change if your rhythm is so far off. Like 38 straight at bats. Cal Raleigh couldn't get a hit.
Katie Nolan
So something's got to change. Something's got to get change.
Brady
And it's like, what's the littlest thing? Like, make me a little uncomfortable. Make me just get out of the zone.
Katie Nolan
Slide it right up the. Right up. That could be the thing, you know.
Isabella
How did they discover this just one day?
Katie Nolan
They were like, Bull Durham.
Brady
Maybe Bull Durham was one. They didn't make that up out of nowhere.
Katie Nolan
I don't know. It's probably just something you can hide and change without anybody noticing. You know, you could just try that. Okay.
Brady
Our baseball players are not shy about sharing what worked when it works, right?
Katie Nolan
And so. So we did find out what happened. So Cal Raleigh in the seventh inning of their 72 win against the Astros. Shout out, Love anybody. Beating the Astros on Tuesday night. He got a single. He hit a single. So he broke the slump and he was asked how did he shake it? And he said, logan Gilbert, a pitcher on the Mariners, gave me Some good advice to wash off the bad mojo or juju from the baseball gods. And he said he showered in full uniform after Monday night's game. So went back into the, into the clubhouse, into the locker room and. And showered in his uniform to wash off the bad vibes.
Isabella
I guess it's good to know that athletes are also superstitious.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, not a little bit. Stitches. Yeah, superstitious. Have you heard the thing recently? They're telling women to shower in your jeans and then let them dry on your body and that's how you get the perfect fit? No, that was when I went, yeah, so I'm not going to be getting the perfect fit.
Brady
So my mom told me that.
Katie Nolan
Crazy.
Brady
That's what they used to do back in like the 70s when it was all about like skin tight jeans.
Katie Nolan
Crazy.
Brady
Like they would. Because your jeans wouldn't fit, but you'd wash them, put them on wet, and then just walk around in wet jeans all day until they dried.
Katie Nolan
The least comfortable feeling. Even thinking about the way wet denim feels when it scrapes against like, I'm thinking of the time you get like pushed into a pool you weren't expecting to go in and you're in your jeans and you get out and you go, first of all, my bottom half is six times as heavy as it usually is. And second of all, get these off of me immediately. The peeling of the gross. So no, you will not catch me showering in my jeans and letting them dry on my body. Sorry. Deal with my ass. The way it looks, it's close enough. But your whole, your whole uniform, same diff. I wouldn't do.
Producer Chris
Then how long was he sitting around with it just wet, full.
Katie Nolan
Good question. I bet he took it off right away and gave it to whoever poor person has to deal with his wet uniform. But it worked. And most it's because it's all mental. All you need is just to get the hit. And then once you get the hit, you can kind of go like, it was the uniform thing. I'm not gonna do the uniform thing every day. It's just, it's mental. It's to help you get over the thing. Ohtani, Shohei Ohtani also broke a slump. Different slump. You know, he's a different kind of player. And so when he slumps, it's just, hey, Ohtani hasn't hit a home run in a while. He hadn't hit. He hadn't hit a home run in 11 games. Whoa. How does he even still have a job? But he went out there and broke that on Tuesday night against the Giants with an oppo shot in the third inning of that. Of that game. What is this? I heard that Ice Cube was in the booth. This is about it, or should I say what Ohtani did to break the slump first?
Brady
This is Ice Cube was in the booth with Joe Davis with Ohtani at the plate. You wanna.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, what better way to bust a
Brady
slump with Cube in the. In the.
Katie Nolan
Let's listen to it.
Brady
We was broke as a joke.
Katie Nolan
When I say we, it's me. There's the drive off of the bat of Ohtani headed for the wall in the seats. There we go.
Brady
All we had to do was bring
Chris
Ice Cube and Otani figures it out.
Katie Nolan
It's that simple, huh? Amazing. Couldn't have scripted did it better. Well, I think if you did, you wouldn't have been talking about a story right before it happened. I would just say the only scripting I would have done that was my nightmare when I did Apple plus when I did Friday night baseball was that in the official highlight of the game would be me going. And so then after that we were at this party and you're the crack
Brady
of a bat and that's a deep drive by Castellano. So this will be a four nothing ball game.
Katie Nolan
He's like, we were broke as a joke when crack. But credit to him for stopping.
Isabella
Wait, what was that that one time that you guys told me about where like someone was.
Katie Nolan
It's that it is that it is the one where he was like drive to left field. Sorry for saying a gay slur. An anti gay slur.
Isabella
And then he goes bed in laundry.
Katie Nolan
This is a deep, deep drive to right field. Center field. Where was center?
Chris
Left.
Brady
Center.
Katie Nolan
Left. Center.
Brady
And then you have to go right back to. I consider myself.
Katie Nolan
I probably won't ever be putting the headset on ever again. I'd like to thank the team. Whoopsie. So yeah, this was a little different. And it was a time for celebration. Ohtani said that on Monday afternoon he hit outside for batting practice. It's the second time in the of a. In a week. And Rocky Gale, the Dodgers catching coordinator, was in town throwing to the hitters. I guess he throws a two seamer that runs away from left handers. Isabella's right here with us. She knows what we're talking about. And Ohtani thought seeing that pitch, keeping his front shoulder closed and driving it to the opposite field might unlock something that he would been had been missing. That is the most annoying way to break out of a slump is that Ohtani went well. I used my perfect baseball brain, scanned the problem, diagnosed, figured out what I would need to do, did it, and then I fixed it. Okay, cool. You didn't want to hop in the shower with your underpants on? Fine.
Isabella
I guess you don't get to wear a thong today.
Katie Nolan
Cool. I guess I'll put all of these thongs away. You just figured out what pitch you needed to work on hitting. Cool.
Chris
Cool.
Katie Nolan
The Dodgers lost that game, though. It's important for me to remind you because they've been losing to the Giants a bunch and we have been loving it in our house, so I will say that. All right. And then the Mets. Let's talk about the Mets, because Isabella loves the Mets. And Isabella here. A little bit of good news this week. Isabelle, do you see AJ Ewing, 21 years old. He's been very impressive. 12 games at AAA Syracuse and they called him up. Debuted in his major. Major league debut. Debuted in his major league debut, and it was against the Tigers. It was Tuesday night. He played center field, he batted eighth, and he ripped an RBI triple in the seventh inning for his first career hit. And there's also kind of an obscure stat, but we'll say it just because to give the kid credit, he became the first major leaguer since at least 1900.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
To record three walks, a triple, a stolen base, and multiple RBIs in their debut. Cool. Well, that's. That's kind of specific. But still, he's the only one so good for him. The Mets won that game. 10, 2. They are now 16 and 25. That's last in the NLE, last in the NL east, and the Phillies are still in that division, so that's a tough. Well, how are you possibly doing worse than Philadelphia?
Brady
A.J. ewing was born in 2004.
Katie Nolan
Oh, don't say that to me. Let's talk about old Mets. Isabella, you have any concept of who Noah Syndergaard is?
Isabella
No.
Katie Nolan
That's going to make this much harder to explain. But before we dive in on what Noah Syndergaard is doing now, Brady, can you help me paint a proper picture for Isabella of Noah Cindergard?
Brady
Six foot five, like, early built, muscular guy, long blonde hair. He went by Thor because he's got a.
Katie Nolan
Because of the aforementioned.
Brady
And he looks like Thor. Like, looks like the Marvel hero. He is huge.
Katie Nolan
Long hair, blonde hair.
Brady
Fell right into it.
Katie Nolan
What was his career wise? Was he. I remember when he went to the Angels and it wasn't so good, but,
Brady
well, one time all star, he was a big top prospect. They had the, the starting rotation, you know, 2015 when they were in the World Series and they had, you know, Cindergard and Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey and Bartolo Cologne and it was just a nasty rotation. He was throwing 100 miles per hour for a few years, like Noah Syndergaard was the dude.
Katie Nolan
And then, and then not so much.
Brady
So then it all fell off.
Katie Nolan
And now let's get you caught up on now. So you've got the picture in your mind of, of who he was and what he looked like and what he. Okay, so now he's been sort of pivoting to his little. He's been taking a little political pivot. So he. Last week or two weeks ago, last Tuesday, he was a guest at the White House to celebrate the return of the presidential fitness test. So that thing that we half talked about in the Mad Lib segment and I said wasn't worth it, was that him and a bunch of athletes went to the White House and were part of this thing. And then after doing that, Noah Syndergaard did some right wing press for whatever reason to discuss that. Okay, we don't have clips of this, right? This is just me reading it, but
Brady
he went much better to hear your voice.
Katie Nolan
This is. Yeah, this is Trump on Cindergard at the White House. So Trump goes professional baseball player, pitcher Noah Cindergard, sometimes known as Thor. And he looks like Thor to me. That's a man I wouldn't want to get in a fight with. I guess we should probably point out he doesn't look as much like Thor now. He's losing a bit as anyone does. And that's no judgment. About to type in Thor now,
Producer Chris
see what comes up. I'm interested.
Katie Nolan
Cinder guard is hard to spell. So if you. But it's his, his. It's thinning out a bit. Those luxurious flaxen locks are becoming less populous. We'll say, okay, okay. There is a mass exodus from the urban center at the top of his head, I guess. And so whatever. Then he goes on, is it Ingram? Does Laura say her name Ingram, even though it's spelled Ingraham?
Brady
It's just Ingram.
Katie Nolan
It's Ingram. So he goes on Laura Ingram's show, the Ingram angle on Fox News to discuss being at the White House. And he said it's a dream come true. I'm riding this bliss in this moment. I really just don't quite understand the negativity or the pessimism he being Trump gets from the media and some of the population of this nation because he's Just such a patriotic guy and he cares so much about everybody in the health of this nation and the health of this world. To take a quick aside here, I just wanted something I saw in a headline this week. Speaking on the White House South Lawn before departing for a diplomatic trip to China, Trump was asked to what extent Americans financial situations were motivating him to make a deal with Iran. And Trump said, quote, not even a little bit. Okay. The only thing that matters when I'm talking about Iran, they can't have a nuclear weapon. I don't think about Americans financial situation. I don't think about anybody. There's a. A guy who I me too, but I don't believe nor Syndergard who says I don't get it. He's so patriotic. He cares so much about everybody and the health of this nation. Interesting to immediately be disproven. He said. I'm envious. I mean this is crazy. I'm envious. Again, sorry just for the context because you won't believe it. It's Noah Syndergaard talking about Donald Trump to Laura Ingraham with a straight face. I'm envious of the mental energy that this guy has. The sharpness, he has, the comedic nature of everything he says. He's just a joy to be around. If you have no olfactory senses. I imagine how in the it just reads like obvious talking points because there's no chance in hell right now. You're spending a ton of time with him going he's always funny. He's so sharp and so smart. Wow. And I really do think we need that ballroom. And you're like, yeah, I see what's happening here. You were handed a piece of paper. That's not it. Isabelle, if you'll believe it, this past Tuesday he appeared on Outkicks. Tommy Lauren is Fearless is the name of her show. I. I hadn't seen her in a while. I'm not meme.
Isabella
Who's that guy in sports?
Katie Nolan
The taking the Jose Mourinho. Oh God no. So he went on her show this week and unloaded on the state of his old squad and the political climate in New York City. Syndergaard said he was connected to the White House contacts through his best friend, quote, who is now the first ever chief Make America Healthy Again officer at Steak and Sh. I can't tell if that's real or not. Is that real? I don't.
Brady
It's real. It feels like.
Katie Nolan
Well, I'm so glad we have a chief Maha officer at Steak n Shake again.
Brady
All These things are said with a straight face because he has. His voice does not go up or down. It's just being deadpanned into a microphone.
Katie Nolan
Tommy Lahren goes, what advice would you give the New York Mets right now? And he said, stop hanging out with socialist mayors. I mean, we're really doing Mom. Donnie cursed the team by meeting a caked up Mrs. Met. I. That's crazy to me. He blamed the current team vibes on the loss of Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso. Quote. It's kind of also ironic. Those two guys are some of the biggest conservatives I've played for, as well as with. With Jacob deGrom. The craziness that's going on in New York. Do you think he got phone calls from those guys going, could you possibly just.
Isabella
Yeah, that's.
Katie Nolan
What. Could you just possibly not mention me? Maybe you leave me out of this. What's crazy is I think Jacob deGrom's obsessed with Trump. And you're like, can I just please. Can I just please not be a part of. Also, this is how Brady found out that Noah Syndergaard used to date Alex Cooper.
Brady
I was unaware of this for, like, all of 2017, apparently, when I was covering baseball, but was simultaneously not covering Alex Cooper.
Katie Nolan
She wasn't. I don't think she was popping off
Brady
yet, but I think this was the. The very beginning.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, this was definitely one of the things she talked about in the early days of Call Her Daddy, I think back when it was an entirely different podcast than it is now. But he had something to say about her, didn't he? He was like, well, she thinks about me a lot, I guess. I haven't thought about her in however long. And I'm like, I just know that's not true. No offense. I just know that's not true. Also, Isabella, while I have you here and while we're doing this, did you see Alex Earl on the Today Show? Yeah, whatever.
Isabella
Eye roll.
Katie Nolan
I roll.
Isabella
I roll.
Katie Nolan
Has yet to. Boys, just so you know, she has yet to ever address any of that. Alex never came out and made any video about it. And then on the Today show, they asked her about it, and she was like, yeah, it's being blown out of proportion. I want to stay positive. There's nothing to say. You said you were gonna respond. You were the one who was saying all. There was all this. You were shady liking stuff. And then when she goes, hey, say what you need to say, and you were like, I will. And then you're on the Today show and you Go. Everyone's really making something out of nothing. Girl, girl, girl. Yeah.
Chris
So why? I just don't pay attention.
Katie Nolan
That's not. That's not why. But I do appreciate that you don't. Here we are again. Here we are again with too much to say and not enough time to say it, do we? Oh, I do want to mention Isabelle, you're going to a Mets game. I am.
Isabella
I'm excited.
Katie Nolan
What day?
Isabella
When are you going to bring the spaghetti, though?
Katie Nolan
Oh, yeah, it's at Citi Field, right? So, yeah, so I guess you can't.
Brady
I mean, tell them at the gate, be like, look, 23 clubs will let me do do this.
Isabella
I'd be like, listen, like the opponent of this team technically can at their stadium.
Katie Nolan
Oh, so if this Subway series took place at Yankee Stadium, I could eat pasta out of a bag. But because it's here, I can't. My rights are being infringible.
Brady
Thanks, mom. Donnie.
Katie Nolan
Yeah?
Producer Chris
You need to throw out the. Do you know who I am?
Katie Nolan
Excuse me?
Producer Chris
Do you actually know who I am?
Isabella
Do you see this sweatshirt, by the way? I did, like, low key marketing on the train today. The conductor, like, scans me ticket and he goes, casuals with Kaden on. I'm like, yeah, check it out.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, you might have seen her on Jeopardy. Last night.
Isabella
Yeah. But anyways, yeah, I'm going to the Mets. It's a Subway series.
Katie Nolan
Are you excited? Is this your first Subway series game?
Isabella
Actually, no. The first baseball game I've ever been to when I was a little kid was a Subway, and it was at Shea Stadium.
Katie Nolan
Oh, wow. So you did go to Shea. I love that. I don't think I knew that. Yeah, I liked Shea. That's exciting. Who. What's the plan? What are we doing? Are you getting there early? Are you gonna go to the team store? What is the. What do we want to.
Isabella
I don't know. I think I'm gonna get there early because I am already gonna be in the store city for work. So then I might just like, hang around a little bit and then I might go to. I really want to go to the store. The Citi Field store. When is this, like the time?
Katie Nolan
No, like, what day? Friday. Friday. All right, cool.
Brady
What giveaways we got Friday. I think there's nothing Friday Subway.
Katie Nolan
Because it's Subway series. They're already selling the tickets. This is going to be one of the only, like, reasons Expensive. Yeah, I bet. I bet that's why I used to go to Mets games when I was a just out of College kid. We would just go drink at the bar that's attached. Whichever. It's like champions or one of those places. And then get super cheap tickets. Go in, sit way up somewhere and sneak down and just get hammered for like a day game against. Who cares? But going to a subway series is like, yeah, it's gonna be packed. And those. I. Those team store prices are not gonna be good.
Isabella
I know, but I want to get something.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, you gotta get something small and then maybe go online and find the other stuff and. Or like Facebook Marketplace. Yeah, for cheap.
Brady
You know what I missed in Baltimore on Friday? What's up, Tupac Bobblehead night.
Katie Nolan
You would have loved that.
Brady
I would have loved it.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, they were.
Brady
They had like 20,000 of them. The place was packed. Like, it was a hot ticket. And I think they're like 150 bucks on eBay now.
Katie Nolan
Oh.
Brady
I mean, everybody's writing about how they immediately went up for resale.
Chris
Looks great.
Katie Nolan
That's crazy.
Chris
It's cool.
Brady
Ass bobblehead.
Katie Nolan
World cup date. Do we have time even?
Brady
We are under a month away from World cup action.
Katie Nolan
I know. And yet finding out a positive story is. Is so hard. We're just digging through piles. We got a sponsorship on the radio that we're, like, not wanting to on the World cup, obviously. But the hardest part has been trying to find a positive story to go. World Cup's coming up. Ah, today we did Shakira. So there's your happy news. Shakira is doing a World cup song. That's good. We love that.
Brady
We specified with the sales package for the podcast. It did not have to be a positive story.
Katie Nolan
Good. Because it's too. There's so much. But we are one month out.
Brady
Positive for you. I got one. Positive.
Chris
Positive.
Brady
So they did release. FIFA released the official list of banned items for their stadiums. For what you can't bring into the stadium at World cup games. Vuvazella is completely banned. There will be no Vuvazellas.
Katie Nolan
We're gonna hit. Are we over the fart noise?
Isabella
I actually don't have it.
Producer Chris
I did just put it in the photo for you.
Katie Nolan
Oh.
Isabella
See when I do.
Katie Nolan
They were banned. That's because he heard they weren't allowed. Yeah. And so Chris said, let's not get Isabella pulled out of here.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
So that would be crazy.
Brady
But they also banned the following significant quantities of paper or any rolls of paper.
Katie Nolan
Wait, I'm sorry. I can't bring a ream.
Brady
You cannot bring a roll of toilet.
Katie Nolan
Why not?
Brady
You cannot bring a Ream.
Katie Nolan
Why can't I do that? What if I have a document to print? What if I leave that?
Brady
You put a little backspin on a roll of toilet paper and it becomes a projectile through the crowd. They don't want that.
Katie Nolan
Okay, but I don't. What if it's not? What if it's just a stack of paper?
Brady
Nope. No significant quantity.
Katie Nolan
Crazy. And what is that even defined as?
Brady
They're banning any quantities of powdery materials. Flour or similar substances.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so you can't bring any powder at all. What about my face? What if I need to keep my face looking nice?
Brady
Include small makeup elements.
Katie Nolan
Really? Sexism, sexism, sexism, sexism.
Isabella
I figured maybe loose powder, but pressed powder should be fine.
Katie Nolan
Can I be honest? This is blatant sexism. Both of these rules. Because, number one, you're telling me I can't bring my journal. You're telling me I can't journal at this game. And now, number two, I can't fix my face. What? Are tampons banned? I bet I can only bring a clear bag.
Brady
You can only bring a clear bag.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so now everyone has to know.
Brady
Transparent bags.
Katie Nolan
Now everyone has to know I have tampons in my bag.
Brady
You are banned from bringing more than one set of extra batteries.
Katie Nolan
Well, that's probably. Yeah, you don't want to throw those at Santa Claus. Right, Philly.
Brady
That's a Philly thing.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
Also banned any objects which could be used as a weapon, and they're including golf umbrellas, beach umbrellas, and motorcycle helmets. Helmets.
Chris
Okay.
Isabella
Whoa.
Katie Nolan
Okay. It feels like you could have just said umbrellas. You know, I feel like. Well, I mean, if they're to a certain size of umbrella, you think a lady's gonna just have a parasol? I don't.
Brady
Kind of crazy from the French Riviera.
Katie Nolan
Sure.
Brady
Cup games in Philly.
Katie Nolan
Sure.
Brady
Fans will be allowed to bring empty, reusable water bottles.
Katie Nolan
I mean, that actually cannot fill them. Wait, what?
Brady
You can't bring them full. They have to be empty.
Katie Nolan
Right. But you can fill them once you're there. They'll probably have fill stations. That is surprising to me. Usually they go like, no outside nothing, and you pay for everything, so I guess that is good news.
Producer Chris
You can also bring a. A Ziploc bag of spaghetti, as long as it's for medicinal purposes.
Katie Nolan
Okay, interesting. And I have to have a licensing for that. I have to have a card that shows I need this. This is actually medical grade spaghetti, and I do need to eat it here at my seat. And I'm not allowed to use a fork. So I just have to reach. Cuz that's a weapon. So I just have to reach my hand in and sort of eat chip away at a clump. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. What? Yeah. Worth it for sure. Ticket price is still high, huh?
Brady
Coming down,
Katie Nolan
but they're coming down.
Brady
The resale prices are coming down actually for the US opener, which no one is buying the US tickets.
Producer Chris
Wonder why.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, front categories one and two felt, which was originally I believe just. Just one fell from 41, about 4100 bucks to. And 2300 bucks to 3400 bucks and 2100 bucks. So okay, it's down a little. It's still way too much money for a country that struggles to care about soccer. So I guess we'll see how that goes. FIFA had two tickets in front category one at the final for $10,000, almost $11,000 each on Monday. So that's fucking crazy. And if you have it, can everybody else have some before you buy a ticket? That's absurd. Sorry, I sound like a socialist mayor. Halftime at the World cup final is going to use the field.
Brady
This one's going to be a problem.
Katie Nolan
It's going to be a huge problem.
Brady
Soccer pitches notoriously need to be perfectly flat and well conditioned. It's the reason that at the Club World cup last year, even though they wanted to have a big halftime show, it was like J. Balvin and J. Balvin, you mean? Yeah, they.
Katie Nolan
But it was outside. It was like a separate.
Brady
It wasn't there side stage right off the field.
Katie Nolan
Now it's also. Isn't. Aren't they. Sorry, but aren't they making MetLife? Didn't they make them put real grass? Because wasn't MetLife turf and in order to be at the level needed to have to host a FIFA competition for the World cup, they had to put in real grass. So they had to like invest in the stadium to make this grass. And then now they're saying that they're going to do a halftime show on it during the game, the Super Bowl.
Brady
They're. They are making plans to roll a stage out there, do it on the middle of the field. No way. That's not going to damage the field, at least by soccer standards. Plus, like soccer players are very particular about the length of their halftime. It's supposed to only be 15 minutes. And the numbers on the Club World cup, even with the big halftime show on the side stage, it was still 24 minutes long. This thing's going to be super bowl length. They still haven't even announced who's performing.
Katie Nolan
I was gonna say later this week. Is producing it.
Chris
It.
Brady
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Whatever that means.
Brady
So everything lines up for Shakira.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. She would be great at it.
Brady
Us tour dates.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
Around the game.
Katie Nolan
You know who else has u. S. Tour dates around the game and better not be at the world cup final is Chris Brown. Did anyone see pitchfork review his album?
Isabella
No. How was it? Awful.
Katie Nolan
He didn't like it. He wasn't happy about it. He's on tour with Usher this summer. So we're doing that. I guess so. Yeah. Okay. Shakira. Let's hope for Shakira. She's got the football ties. I know she is no longer with what's his face. But they do have two kids together and she went to a lot of soccer games. She loves soccer. She did the. Was it 2010, the South African world cup that she did the song for year. And she has a song for this year. It's called die. Die.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Which is tough, I think, because it's in a different language. But it. That part. But it. It is. It is. That means something different here, you know?
Chris
Die bar. Die.
Katie Nolan
Die, die. It's like, whoa. You know? But it's dai so I'm sure. I'm sure Republicans will get confused and want it banned. Daisy. Then we also have Miller lite releasing soccer balls that can hold 12 beers. I scrolled past this. Is it 12 physical cans go inside of the ball?
Brady
Yeah. The ball is one and a half times the size of a regular soccer ball. It is not for kicking, but it's for holding beers. You can shove like into like the little pentagon design on the soccer ball. You can shove a can of beer into all 12 of them and it'll just hold your beers.
Producer Chris
I love this.
Katie Nolan
I kind of love that too. But does it have some sort of a cooling mechanism inside of the it?
Brady
I don't think so.
Isabella
That's.
Producer Chris
You put the whole bowl into the fridge before you drink the beers.
Katie Nolan
I just would hope that, like, if it has a cool core or a center, then you could take the ball in a bag to the beach and pop open. But if there's no way to keep it cool, then it is just kind of inconvenient and your beers can roll away from you.
Brady
Here's why I don't think it will
Isabella
way to on it costs.
Brady
How much do you think this thing cost?
Katie Nolan
A thousand dollars? I don't know.
Brady
It is 19.75.
Katie Nolan
Wait, with the beer in it?
Brady
No, not with the beer.
Katie Nolan
Oh, all right. So that's interesting because I tried to
Brady
buy one today and it is not for sale yet, but it will be 19.75.
Producer Chris
Where do you get it from?
Katie Nolan
Probably get one. We probably need to have one of those.
Chris
Yeah.
Brady
I also have a drafted email to press at my. Shouldn't give their whole.
Katie Nolan
No, maybe don't. Maybe don't. Just know Brady is on it. Brady's on it. We'll get that ball in here and Gritty will drink a Miller Light from it. Isn't that what we all want? And then I. I see what you did here, Brady. You tried to compare with the cup to the cup. We have a different cup date. Honk. I guess, because, Isabella, you're really going to like this one. This cup date is about the San Francisco Giants, and it is the. The outfield celebration they were doing. Isabel, did this hit your timeline?
Isabella
No, it did not.
Katie Nolan
The outfield of the San Francisco Giants were gathering after wins and hugging three way. So the, you know, left field, center field, right. They were all in like a triangle hugging. And then they would just hump aggressively their cup area of their. They would just hump.
Isabella
Wait, is this the video here?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I think you should probably take a look at it.
Brady
Just a clickety clack of three cups.
Katie Nolan
Oh, no, that's a different video. That's going to not be the same video. So that was just a different thing that Tony Vitello did go Vitello it on a mountain. He hasn't said anything too crazy recently, but he did. There was a clip of him calling for a bullpen pitcher without identifying which pitcher he wanted from the bullpen. And then I believe a Giants player had to just go that one. And we went that way. It was absurd. But yeah, the humping. It's Jung Hui, Drew Gilbert and Harrison Bader. And you could tell Jung Huli was not into it. Oh, I gotta be. You could tell he was going like, okay, two humps, and I'd like to leave. His arms dropped quicker than everybody else's. But they've been told that they cannot. Giants management said, please immediately stop doing that. And instead, on Tuesday, they just gathered and they bowed a polite little bow. So that's your.
Brady
Let the Giants hump Cup date.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I guess. You know, in a different context, though. No, don't let Giants hump. That's scary. The Giant. You need to. That could cause a lot of problems. Let's go ahead and stop our first hour here of our quick A block. And we got to go to Stephen Coletti, listen to me. You guys need to listen to me, okay? I graduated from high school in 2005. There, we're just being honest with each other, okay? In 2004, a little TV show hit the airwaves. It was called Laguna beach, and it was a revolutionary reality show. So much so, I loved this show. It was about their senior year of high school. These were rich kids, so it wasn't the same as my senior year of high school, but it aired while I was a senior in high school. So this show meant something to me. It was different. Okay. And Stephen Coletti was like the heartthrob high school kid that everybody was fighting over on that show. I love Stephen Coletti in a way I wasn't even sure I was ready to deal with. And he came into our show to talk about sports with us. And I think I'm gonna judge by the casualties reaction here. I think I handled it okay.
Isabella
I think you're great.
Katie Nolan
Thanks. I was just blown away by the fact I was sitting across from someone who went through high school in my mind at the same time as me. And then now he's off doing all this other stuff. He was in Traders, which I. Dan and I watched this past season of Traders that had Donna Kelsey and it had Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. We get into that a little bit. We talk ball. He married a NASCAR reporter, so he's, like, plugged in on sports in a way that I was surprised by and really enjoyed. It's a great conversation. We talk about reality tv. What he's here promoting is everything is doing Great. Season two of a scripted series that he has made that is going to be on Netflix. Season one was on Hulu, but now season two has premiered on Netflix. It was earlier this week. Brady. Is season one also now available to be watched on Netflix?
Brady
Season one and season two of Everyone is Doing Great now both available on Netflix.
Katie Nolan
Great. Perfect. And it was crowdfunded. It's. It's just really fascinating. It's. As anybody who tries to make anything for a living knows, it's kind of tough to do right now. And so it's really interesting talking to people about the. The different ways they've gone about making the thing they want to make. And so everyone is doing great. Go watch that. And. And when we come back from a quick break, here, we will be, you know, hanging out with Stephen Coletti from Laguna Beach. Also One Tree Hill. I know some people go nuts on One Tree Hill. I wasn't a One Tree Hill gal, but anyway, Stephen Coletti after the break. This is Casuals. We'll be right back ladies. Tired of sunglasses ripping your hair out? I know I am. I've already broken the tension by saying that like he's you were like the high school hottie to my to like an entire generation. Which I imagine is a very cool but also b very weird because there's like a line of women waiting upstairs to take a picture with you and you must constantly be like, yeah, all right, I don't. I'm like an adult now and leave me alone.
Chris
Here's the thing. Like we got found out of nowhere for Laguna back in the day. So it's always this weird that the attention that came from it. I didn't do anything to deserve that. I didn't. I didn't contribute a skill to society.
Katie Nolan
Let's unpack it. I think you kind of did to
Chris
get on the show.
Katie Nolan
It was early reality tv. It was pretty early. It wasn't like the first. Was it the first of anything? I feel like you would know.
Chris
It was in the way of the confessionals. Were not there. Like, they shot it like a scripted drama. And I think that's what the appeal was for folks, where it was like, this is different, but they're not talking.
Katie Nolan
Voiceover stands out when I watch it now, where I'm like, no one does a voiceover.
Chris
They sold the show with the voice to the audience. They sold the. The, you know, what was happening story. Like, they really connected the dots. Poor Lauren had to sit in that. That booth and actually, like, go through, like, all right, what do you want me to say? And. And why am I saying this again? They're just connecting dots for. For their story.
Katie Nolan
How weird is that experience? Because that is also your senior year of high school. Yeah, it's like a crazy experience and also a year that you're supposed to really savor.
Chris
We were playing with fire, weren't we? Because we're still, like, forming our frontal lobes at that point, and we're like, yeah, let's just put all of this on TV for everyone forever. Really, really thoughtful.
Katie Nolan
I know your drama from your senior year. I shouldn't know about Cabo, but I do. Yeah, it's crazy to me.
Chris
You know, what's great is it was high school. Thankfully, that was not me at 30 or in my mid-20s. You know, this is when we still had so much to learn. And it did take a long time for me to get comfortable with that because, yeah, it was embarrassing. There's a lot of embarrassing stuff on there. The stuff that you say, it's like. Imagine having, like, a thousand voicemails of yourself, like calling your best friend or your.
Brady
Your.
Chris
Your boyfriend or girlfriend, and. Yeah, and that's just played for everyone. So it's. It's cringy in that. In that aspect. But as years have gone on and you grow and you realize, oh, that was such a sweet, innocent time, and you're thankfully a different person than that little kid back in the day. And honestly, for. How to have folks like yourself say, you know, I remember watching that, and can some ways relate to the drama that was going on, Some of the relationship stuff, some of the saying goodbyes because you're going away to school or whatever, the fact that it left that mark on folks. And look, that's why I'm in storytelling. You want people that maybe Feel a little less alone to feel something with folks. And I think that people were sharing that with me on the street over the years, and I was like, all right, maybe it's not so bad after all. It's all right.
Katie Nolan
How many times would you say you have watched, let's say, season one of Laguna Beach? Because I bet it's, like, twice, and through your fingers, I cannot imagine.
Chris
Yeah, so we'd get those VHS tapes back in 2004, the night before it aired. And I was at college. I was in college at this point, so it was being, you know, zapped into all the dorms there at San Francisco State University.
Katie Nolan
Oh, these are, like, two huge years of your life. One of them is filmed, and the other is like, people are watching it. That's crazy.
Chris
I went to college in San Francisco because nobody from my high school was going there because I wanted a fresh start, smart, where no one would know anything about me.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Unfortunately.
Chris
Yeah. Didn't think that all the way through.
Katie Nolan
It all aired on tv.
Chris
So, yeah, I've watched it then and was like, all right, I'm never watching that ever again. The graduation episode, I will say that one was.
Katie Nolan
That's nice to have.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And that one was like, I'll probably watch that at some point. And again, years later, when I got more comfortable with what the show was and I want to do the podcast that Kristen and I did, that's when I watched it again. And it was. Honestly, it was cringy, of course, but I also was laughing hysterically. I was like, what?
Brady
What, idiot?
Katie Nolan
Why did you think this was gonna be a problem?
Chris
Yeah. When you do speak, it's like, all right, first of all, what are you saying? Like, you're mumbling everything. Can you believe what's coming out of your mouth? I just. I found it hilarious. And then I'm also like, man, I credit to the editors and to mtv, like, they really put together a great story.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. They made a show that felt like a scripted show.
Chris
I was. I was like, oh, man, what's gonna happen next? I was like, thankfully, I didn't remember some of the episodes. I was like, where are we going here?
Katie Nolan
That's so funny.
Chris
So it was fun.
Katie Nolan
Last Laguna beach question, because we have so much other stuff to talk about, and I have to get this out of my system. Was the. The phone at the surf shop constantly ringing from people that were fans of yours? I once. It was, like, a real place, and the show was like, season one had been out. I was like, I bet people Are calling the surf shop all day.
Chris
Yeah. Yeah, you're exactly right. I felt really bad for that one. Everyone back in the shop had to deal with that. They eventually just had to put. Pull the plug on. On the phone.
Katie Nolan
Damn.
Chris
That was also.
Katie Nolan
Seriously, no phone at the business.
Chris
Well, they would just plug it at certain times. But yeah, there was. There were certain peak moments. Like maybe the day after the episode or right when the episode was airing on the east coast, they would. Yeah. Get a ton of calls and sleepovers.
Katie Nolan
It was a thing we did at sleepovers.
Chris
Did you call the. No. Yes you did.
Katie Nolan
At least once.
Chris
Did you ask for me or would.
Katie Nolan
Would you say no, you weren't there. I think at that point they weren't. It was. You weren't there was what we were told. But like, we also were like, I bet he is there. We should call back. Stephen. If they were recording us, I would be too ashamed to show my face.
Chris
Yeah, I felt bad because I never worked in the shop after I went away to college and I came back and I wasn't working there anymore. And that was one of those things with the show that was really hard to process. Is Laguna is this very sweet, artistic, very hippie community, very laid back. And a show like MTV coming to town really ruffled some feathers. It was great for businesses around town and. And great. A lot of the artists around town that have booths and whatnot and shops, it was good for that. But it showed the city in a light that we were not proud of everyone's. These spoiled rich kids. And it was ridiculous in that way. They really sensationalized that part of some kids lives. And that was unfortunate to see. And hard.
Katie Nolan
I mean, it was crazy when LC was like, come on, Stephen, come look at the construction on my new home.
Chris
Watch the palm tree be planted over the cliff next to the Jacuzzi.
Katie Nolan
That was the moment I was like, oh, these are. We're not. This is not the same as my high school experience. Things are a little bit different here. But whatever. Like that's what the. And you guys were putting yourselves out there on TV for us. So like you made your sacrifice. I feel like it's all even in that front. While we're on the topic of reality TV traders. What the. Is that like crazy?
Chris
You should do traders.
Katie Nolan
No. Absolutely no chance. Here's my first question. How do you. How soon do you diagnose who you have to be in the game? Because it feels like if you miscalculate that, like I would say Ron funches you. It it really backfires on you. And it feels like everybody falls into their spot so early. I suck at that. I would not know how to play Whatever's going on unspoken.
Chris
It's constantly evolving. But it is shocking when there are certain moments and you find out, wait, somebody just jumped on something that I said that was not relating to what they think it's relating to at all. But they're gonna.
Katie Nolan
You had one of those. Because I remember going, he's innocent.
Chris
I know. They. They thought with. With Lisa that I was taking her the gold, the rocks that were painted gold. They really thought we were in cahoots. And I was like, dorinda, what are you doing? Like, we've had long conversations, so that part's frustrating. It is. That's the tricky part is, is it's not. You never know when you've done something wrong until everyone's staring you down at the round table and been like, wait, why did you say that? And so in real time, you have to face everyone. And how do you respond to that? How do you speak? What do you say? That's where it's won and lost.
Katie Nolan
And I would panic. I would go, you guys think it's me? It's not me. I would have told you if it was me, because I can't keep. I would have. I would just spin out. I'm so composed.
Chris
That happens early on when there's a lot of people. And this is where a lot of the big personalities, the loud voices in the room, they. That's what they started to kind of drop early because they are talking a lot, and it's. It's shifting a lot of attention on them, and there's not a lot to go off of because you're really trying to figure it out. Like, ah, you've got these little leads, but they're not that strong. But it's, you know, better them than you. And again, nothing's really concrete, but it's all we got, so we got to go with that. So when those folks, you know, the louder voice in the room early on, they. They're, you know, they're putting a target on their back later on. Like, for myself, as an example, I had a lot of good things very quickly, can put down any fire that arose about me, but people were still like, yeah, you know what? That's still all we got. I mean, credit to Rob, who was absolutely killing it.
Katie Nolan
Crazy.
Chris
Yes. And for that, that's why there wasn't a lot of other evidence to go off of. Like, it wasn't Until I was out. Tara Lipinski and Johnny told me this, that it wasn't until, you know, they're pointing the finger at me and they're wrong. They're like, we gotta really shift what we're thinking here. And. And they did that. And they're like, wait a minute. Maybe we are supposed to be looking at Rob now.
Katie Nolan
Tara Lipinski and Johnny, you knew?
Isabella
Yes.
Chris
This is, this is, this is so frustrating. I don't know even who it was exactly, but I just assumed everyone knew exactly who they were because they were. They were two. When I got out of the car, I was like, oh, fuck. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
For those that don't know, they played the early stages of the game almost like they weren't that. That close. They, like, were friends and, and admitted that they were friends, but they tried to be separate from each other in a way that I at first was like, how are they gonna do that?
Chris
No one's buying this.
Katie Nolan
And it felt like everybody kind of let them do that.
Chris
There were a couple folks that were like, oh, they just assumed that they were fig all. They're both figure skaters, but they were not the best of friends. I was like, have you ever watched the Olympics?
Katie Nolan
Best friends? They have the most chemistry out of any team I think I've ever seen.
Chris
Yes. And that's what I, I told them right when I got out of the car. And I was like, did you guys know you were gonna be here, by the way? That's a whole. That's a whole other thing we could talk about. So we got out of the car and I was like, did you guys know you were gonna be here? Cause we're not supposed to know anybody, right? And they're like, kind of playing it cool, you know, we thought maybe because
Katie Nolan
it's an Olympic year, it's an Olympic year.
Chris
Now they're, of course, we're trying to, you know, keep it under wraps that they did of course, know that they were gonna be there together.
Katie Nolan
And I thought they'd be out early.
Chris
That is a massive advantage, I know, to have somebody that you can trust 100% in the castle because you can't trust anybody. So I will say this. I love them both dearly. When I first got knocked out, like my. You blew it to everybody. And I, I get back to my room and I'm like, johnny and Terry, you know what? They got to know that they were going to be in the castle together. That's such a massive advantage.
Katie Nolan
But yeah, I wonder if they thought that they would get knocked out early because everybody would go. That's a massive advantage. We have to knock those two out immediately. And so they assumed it would help promote the Olympics, but then they had to stay. And because people bought it, I guess that they weren't that close, I would have immediately been like, okay, one of them has to go. Yeah, because this is crazy. They're best friends.
Producer Chris
Yeah.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Look, did you feel bad for Maura
Chris
that moment, the last episode? What an incredible moment. Great, great piece of TV right there. Yeah.
Brady
She.
Chris
She was so. After we were. We were doing the reunion, we'd just all seen the final episodes separately, and then we meet to do the reunion, and she was so embarrassed. She was like, I'm such an idiot. I'm like, come on. Like, first of all, none of us knew what was going on. We all were bamboozled here. But, like, you wore your heart on your sleeve there. You showed your emotions, and everyone connected with her in that moment where she was convinced that they were going to win.
Katie Nolan
I mean, she was saying the stereotypical like, if it's Rob, I'll be shocked. If it's Rob, I'll die. And then he's like, it's Rob. And you just see her face go like. Like, no.
Chris
Yeah. And she's sharing the story about not being able to trust some guys.
Katie Nolan
No. I was so mad, but I was just like. I was so mad at him.
Chris
Do you agree? Would you say that she still won, though? She won in what way? She got a Birkin bag that she's
Katie Nolan
very happy with, and he should buy her a Birkin every year.
Chris
She helped contribute to him winning. He knows that. He's recognized it. And for that, I think she celebrated, and deservingly so, because, yeah, she was amazing in the show.
Katie Nolan
Donna Kelce didn't make it very long, did she?
Chris
The secret traitor role, that's a tough one.
Katie Nolan
And it's like, why is it a tough one? Because you don't.
Chris
Well, I think for sure, nobody knows. Yeah. So you can't. Yes. You can't strategize with anybody. I think on that end, she's also.
Katie Nolan
She's just a traitor on your own island.
Chris
Yeah. And she's fairly new to tv. I know she's around, you know, the media world with her sons, but herself,
Katie Nolan
when you're in that environment, that environment's crazy.
Chris
And that's why I went into the show saying, hey, just leave me as a faithful, please. Like, I'm. I'm so far outside my comfort zone by. By doing a show, I haven't done a reality show in 20 years. So let me just, like, let the game come to me and casually tiptoe into this. But ultimately, no. If I had to run it back trader. They. They have all the fun. I wish I was a traitor for sure.
Katie Nolan
Really.
Chris
But now in. In hindsight, of course. So for you wouldn't.
Katie Nolan
You would have been able to just look somebody in the eye and hurt them like that? I don't think. Not my Stephen Coletti.
Chris
To win the game at the end, you know, it's. It's just a game.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, you're right. That's so true. It's just. I would never have guessed I would get that emotional from that show. I felt so bad for her. Trl, Steven. How did I miss this chapter? I was going through and being like, damn, he's done so much different types of tv and trl, I missed that chapter completely. We found evidence of three episodes on the Internet. Okay. But in the three episodes, there were two guests that we could see. One was JoJo. Me too.
Chris
She's great.
Katie Nolan
She's fantastic. One was JoJo, and one was Joe and Fat Joe and I. And I thought, did you have, like, a Joe's Only clause? But since then, you've told me you did a whole season of trl.
Chris
You hosted, so I did it for a year. It started with. I remember my audition for TRL was Beach House in San Diego. Because I told them it's honestly why I did Laguna Beach. You know, the superlatives of middle school, Most likely to. There was one for Most likely to become an MTV vj. I wanted that so bad. I mean, I wasn't campaigning for it, but it's just what I wanted to do. I wanted to get into entertainment. I wanted to be Carson Daly. So, yeah. So I was telling the producers of Laguna from the beginning, at any point, if you need me to host anything, I hosted, like, a fashion show in season two. It's like, if I can go to trl, I'd love to go. And, yeah, I just told them that I wanted to do it, so they gave me a shot and I got to do it for a year, which was great. I come out, like, once a month. I do a week of shows, and I'd go back, but I remember thinking I was so green, right? And I was. And the role was. So I just did. The imposter syndrome was real, of course, because. Because I was just getting started, right? And you're smack right into trl. They're flying me out like first class. And putting me up here in New York, I'm like, this isn't gonna last,
Katie Nolan
like, any minute now.
Chris
I still have a lot to learn.
Brady
Yeah.
Chris
So I thought I was gonna go the hosting route. I always knew I wanted to work at entertainment and actually thought sports broadcasting was gonna be my route. Yeah. I loved, like, growing up, I mean, the Dan Patrick, like, Keith Olbermann SportsCenter days. Like, them writing for the highlights the best. That. That stuff. That. That creativity was what was calling me. But eventually, you know, I started studying acting and caught that bug, and then that's where I wanted to go. And so I kind of put hosting to the side.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Wow. Just dismissed my entire life again. Then I realized, no, actually, I want to do this instead. And that's. It.
Chris
Did not suck.
Brady
No.
Chris
I just wasn't as good at it. I'd rather hide behind my different personalities than share my own, you know?
Katie Nolan
That's very funny. Also, One Tree Hill, another heartthrob show. It's like, you're really asking for it out here, doing all this heartthrob stuff because people love. I never got into One Tree Hill. Don't be mad at me. Okay. Don't be mad at me. But people love that show.
Chris
Yeah. I'm sorry. I'm getting updates.
Katie Nolan
Steven's getting. He just got a Sports center update, I believe is what I heard.
Chris
It's Laker Talk. I stayed up late last night watching that, thinking that they might win. Oh, you did Terrible. Yeah. A little fried. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Are you a Laker Laker fan?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Sorry about the end of your season.
Chris
I know it's a bummer. We saw it coming from game one.
Katie Nolan
But what's going to happen with LeBron, do you think?
Chris
I think he's coming back.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. It feels like he would have to.
Chris
He doesn't want to go out like that. They got a good team. If Luke is healthy, get a little more defense.
Katie Nolan
Right. Because, you know, one more year, tell everybody that it's your last year. Get all of your gifts in the various. Various cities.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Go out on top with your son on the same team. That's how I would do it.
Chris
Is the other son gonna be there as well, or is he not sure. He's at Arizona.
Katie Nolan
Right. I can't. I can't keep track of too much of a family. You know what I'm saying? Once they get to the. It's incredible, though. It's incredible. It's amazing.
Chris
I have a couple.
Katie Nolan
It makes me feel old. Doesn't it make you feel old.
Chris
Because LeBron's a year older than us.
Katie Nolan
I know. That's why I don't want him to, to retire. Because then I'm like, okay, then I'm not looking around, seeing people like me. I'm not seeing my, my peers. Y. I'm aging out of it.
Chris
When Kobe retired, that was. I bawled my eyes out before the game started. They showed the package on TV of, you know, his whole career. And I was like, I wonder if I'm gonna get emotional even going into that last day.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
And it was before the game started. They start the package just like tears. It's like watching my graduation episode.
Katie Nolan
There's a lot of stuff we don't realize is tied up in our relationship with sports. I think, think 100%, kind of my whole thesis on this whole thing. You golf?
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
And you're good at it.
Chris
I'm decent. I, I, I played a lot when I was younger, so the, the fundamentals are there, but you gotta, you gotta practice, you gotta, you gotta play a lot to be good at golf. And I just don't practice and, and play.
Katie Nolan
Okay, but you got closest to the pin at the 17th hole, of course, is a joke invitational over the weekend. Yeah. Let me clap for you.
Chris
I am incredible, honestly, personal proud of that.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
I never win that. I, there's golf tournaments play every once in a while, close to the pan, a long drive. I never get anything. I'm like the Raffles. I just, I never win something like that. And this one was the. Have you heard of those guys, the country club adjacent? They, they sit there and they make fun of you while you're hitting the ball. It's like the last thing you.
Katie Nolan
I would hate that.
Chris
Yeah, it's, it's tough.
Katie Nolan
I hate golf because I'm doing those guys to myself in my head, of course. And so I'm just like, you see. Suck at this. You're the absolute worst at this. And you look stupid. You look stupid and you suck at it, and you're not having any fun, and then it ruins the entire experience.
Chris
Yeah. So, yeah, these, these guys were there on, on that hole, and they're, you know, they're making fun of me for One Tree Hill. They're making fun of the clothing that I'm wearing. And honestly, I didn't even really think about. I just swung really fast. I was like, let me just get this over with. And somehow, some way, the ball connected and went straight, and went straight at the hole, and it held up as the closest to the pins.
Katie Nolan
So did you turn around and go,
Chris
like, you know what? I was high fiving the group, but I did. I think later I put it on my stories and I definitely said, suck it to them.
Katie Nolan
Yes.
Chris
Because you got to give it back a little bit.
Katie Nolan
But, yeah, that was a.
Chris
That's a proud accomplishment of mine right there. It's hardware that's up in my office.
Katie Nolan
That's right. They can't take that away from you.
Chris
Exactly.
Katie Nolan
Who won? Do you know who won?
Chris
Cat Williams. Wait, I think Cat Williams won. Did his team. Yeah, I think his team won.
Katie Nolan
AI told us it was Heather McMahon. And no offense to Heather, but I went. I. I don't.
Chris
No, you're right. It actually was.
Katie Nolan
She did.
Chris
I think Cat got second. That's right. Him and his team. Yes, her and her team McDonald.
Katie Nolan
Sorry. Heather McDonald. I was thinking of a different Heather.
Chris
That's right. Because I remember she was celebrating on stage and, yeah, she was very animated. It was very funny. But what a. What an incredible group of people we were. Everyone's doing great.
Katie Nolan
Our.
Chris
Our show that's. That's streaming on Netflix. It's, you know, to be alongside all these, like, killer comedians. We're not comedians. You know, we're. We know that, but we find ourselves with these guys for the Netflix is a joke invitational. And we're so honored to be there and have Netflix invite us out. Because we're an independent TV show. Through Sony, we were able to get licensed to Netflix.
Katie Nolan
Everyone is doing great.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
You have to say the name of the.
Brady
Everyone is.
Chris
I said it, right?
Katie Nolan
Oh, you did.
Chris
Yeah, I did.
Katie Nolan
I thought you said the tv.
Chris
Are you paying attention?
Katie Nolan
I'm sorry.
Chris
You got a lot to do over there.
Isabella
It's okay.
Katie Nolan
Just gonna make sure we have stuff to get to, and then we have. Go ahead, keep going.
Chris
Yeah, but they took on our show, and we're not a main Netflix original, but there we are. And the fact that they had us out with all those incredible comedians, and we've just got our little comedy here, our little mom and pop shop that's shown up on Netflix. So please, if you want to support indie tv, find us on Netflix and watch the episodes. And if you, like, give us the double thumbs up, that really helps the algorithms.
Katie Nolan
It's so cool, the crowdfunding angle to it. To me, it's like, that is because right now it's different getting something made than it was even just, like, five years ago. And that was different than five years before that. And this feels like a way to give people have Them directly be able to make the things that they want to see.
Chris
Yeah. I mean, at any point, and I don't care who you are in this business, getting something made is a miracle in itself. And the coolest thing about getting our show on Netflix is there's a lot of folks, because we shoot it for a low budget that have. We've called in favors, we're calling our buddies, we're calling our family members, we're calling our neighbors, like, can you please come in and play a part or do this or that? And there's a lot of folks that are just getting their start working on our show. So. So to have the show come out and see them be jazzed about it, and we can all celebrate that as a community. Not only the people working on the show, but also the people that helped get it there, the people that helped crowdfund. A lot of the One Tree Hill supporters from James and I have made this thing, you know, get some eyeballs and get some, you know, buzz behind it to be able to give it this chance. So it's really cool to have this moment and I think folks will really dig the show as well. So.
Katie Nolan
Hell yeah. LA marathon you ran.
Chris
You're giving me a lot.
Katie Nolan
I want everybody to know what an athlete you are.
Chris
This is so funny. I am a wannabe athlete.
Katie Nolan
I was gonna say. I actually wanna talk about your sister.
Chris
Oh, she's the real athlete.
Katie Nolan
Running 175 plus marathons is what this says. That's true.
Chris
And she does a hundred mile marathons.
Katie Nolan
Are those. Is that what an ultra marathon is?
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, she's done more than 20 of those.
Chris
She's a beast. She won the Nashville Marathon.
Katie Nolan
Crazy.
Chris
I know, I know.
Katie Nolan
That's crazy.
Chris
And she's why I was able to finish the LA Marathon. She was there helping pace me and she's great and she's the inspiration for it.
Katie Nolan
So is she older or younger?
Chris
She's older. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Sick. Shout out to older sisters.
Chris
We want to do the Boston Marathon next. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
That's where I'm from and I grew up watching that question.
Chris
Do you have to qualify or are
Katie Nolan
you asking me like I've never even thought about getting into.
Chris
Is it supposed to be a qualifier?
Katie Nolan
I think. Think so. I don't. Do you know anybody at the Boston Marathon running it? No. I go and drink beer at it. I go and drink. I put alcohol into my Dunkin Donuts and I stand and I go, woohoo. And I drink that. It's a completely different experience for me.
Chris
Okay.
Katie Nolan
I'm not running in it. I'm watching it and going, you're doing great. I hand out orange slices, but, yeah, I imagine. I think you have to qualify. Yeah, it's a prestigious.
Chris
That's what I heard. That's what it. So it's like. I don't know if I can. I can get that time.
Katie Nolan
Heartbreak Hill will get you.
Chris
I hear about Heartbreak Hill. There you go. You know your stuff.
Katie Nolan
I mean. Yeah, I've watched it. I just don't.
Chris
That's the badass part. The cool thing about a marathon, it doesn't matter how long it takes you to finish it. Getting out there, the community that comes out. I did the LA marathon. I've never seen, you know, LA like that, and I've been out of LA for a couple years, so to go back, run the marathon, see the community open up and everyone, you know, help out, whether it's handing out the orange slices or just giving you some sort of mystery energy ball that you know, you probably shouldn't take, but you're still gonna take it because you're desperate and you're dying. Yeah, those are.
Katie Nolan
Those are like. This isn't. This is smushed into this shape.
Chris
Yeah. And I've pried it from their fingers and half of it has fell.
Katie Nolan
Oh, their fingerprints are on it. And, yeah, there's a. There's a nail in there, but I need it.
Chris
But we need it.
Katie Nolan
So here we go.
Chris
Yes. And then you're fine, and you do survive. And he's like, oh, I trust this community even more now.
Katie Nolan
I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it.
Chris
Yes, you could.
Katie Nolan
Music. Do you listen to music when you do a marathon?
Chris
Oh, yeah, yeah. There was. What was I listening to? A lot of Kendrick Lamar.
Katie Nolan
Cool.
Chris
A lot of lcd. You don't really want to.
Katie Nolan
Do. You have to. Did you make, like, a playlist, B? I kind of do.
Chris
I did do.
Katie Nolan
Did you make it based off of, like, BPM or whatever so that you would be at the pace that you wanted to?
Chris
Just hype. Just stuff that gets me.
Katie Nolan
Stuff that makes you feel like.
Chris
Yeah, you know, let's see if I. I got the playlist. I know there's Kendrick on there. Let's see here. Come on, come on, come on, come on. Arcade Fire. I'm a big Arcade Fire fan. There's a lot of that in there. Cage the Elephant. Yes. That'll get you hype. Have you ever seen Cage the Elephant live?
Katie Nolan
No.
Chris
Fantastic live show. Lot of Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Shout out.
Chris
Fucking love.
Katie Nolan
Rihanna, is it? Bitch better have my money. What is it?
Chris
Let's see here. We've got Desperado work. Cheers. Straight to that. I always love that song.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
Only Girl in the World. Of course.
Katie Nolan
Of course.
Chris
Then the Calvin Harris, We Found Love, that's there. And then. And then there's like, random, like, we're going like, I got Norwegian Aurora, she's got a runaway song. And Running with the Wolves. That's like. It's not the kind of hype that you would expect.
Katie Nolan
No, this good. Deep cuts. This is Stephen Coletti's marathon running playlist. Wireless headphones.
Chris
I'm sorry.
Katie Nolan
No, I love this. I'm not being sarcastic. I love this. Do you wear wireless headphones?
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, not the ear. Not the ones that go in your ear. I feel like I'd lose one of those.
Chris
No, they're all right. You get there, you can secure them in there.
Katie Nolan
Tiny ears. They reject.
Chris
They make the. The tiny little.
Katie Nolan
Then you gotta put the little bud on it. Everyone goes like, why does yours need a nipple? And you feel uncomfortable. You just feel different. And then you gotta wear the over
Chris
the head, the earbuds after the marathon because of all the sweat.
Katie Nolan
Oh, nasty.
Chris
There's a. Yeah, there's. It's like you got your ears clearing cleaned out and just shot onto your airpod along with, like, missing toenails.
Katie Nolan
Now I'm ready to move on, if that's okay. I do want to shout out your wife, Alex Weaver.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Because I forgot when you said you could have done sports, that's the connection is, like, you married somebody who does.
Chris
And I think the algorithms for that, like, I. I slid into her DMs. It's how we met. And I'm.
Katie Nolan
You slid into her DMs.
Producer Chris
I know.
Chris
So romantic. I'm a big sports fan. And.
Katie Nolan
And she's a NASCAR and Fox reporter for anybody who doesn't know.
Chris
Yes. And she's from North Carolina. Worked a lot in North Carolina, working on one shoe heels. And I was like, let's bring these two together.
Katie Nolan
So are you a big NASCAR guy?
Chris
I am a NASCAR guy. I will say I'm on the periphery, so I don't want to call myself as, like, an avid fan. I do enjoy watching the races, and I watched a lot, actually, growing up, My dad gave me a number three Dale Earnhardt car, and some of my friends would make fun of me. When I was younger, I loved watching racing. I wasn't super plugged into it, but I enjoyed watching those Cars go around very fast, and if you go. If you. If we were in middle school together and we went go karting, I would have kicked your ass. I've always said that. I was a NASCAR driver in my first life.
Katie Nolan
Damn.
Chris
Yeah, a little bit of a lead foot and. Yeah, always going from point A to point B, way too fast. So, yeah, I enjoy nascar. It's so fun hanging out at the races. Great community. It's like a family.
Katie Nolan
It really is a great community.
Chris
She'll call it the traveling circus. You know, they go from track to track. And I've engaged with a lot of people there. You know, obviously, now that Alex and I are married and it's just. It's a really good group.
Katie Nolan
Do you have a driver that, like, you root for?
Chris
You know, right now there's some young guns that are. That are coming up. Carson Hosavar, he just won and he had a pretty big celebration. That was cool. I. I like the energy he's bringing. I don't know if I. He's like my driver yet, but I like the energy he's bringing to the sport. He's ruffling some feathers a little bit.
Katie Nolan
Bit.
Chris
Tyler Redick, actually. I really do. Like, he's a cool dude and he's under the Jordan brand, so you got to love that.
Katie Nolan
The Ducks. You're an Anaheim Ducks fan, correct?
Chris
I am.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
I am.
Katie Nolan
Series is tied.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Game five is tonight.
Chris
Yes.
Katie Nolan
Against the Golden Knights.
Chris
Correct.
Katie Nolan
How are we feeling?
Chris
We just need to not let them score a freaking goal in the first two minutes of the first period. Because we keep doing that and they get out and we. I think we play well from behind it. We're such an offensive team, but yeah, if we can just show a little more defense.
Katie Nolan
You're watching so much more sports than I think you give yourself credit for. Sorry. Keep going.
Chris
But I just have to. The Angels are so bad. The fact that the Ducks are finally back in the playoffs. I'm plugged into it.
Katie Nolan
I know you have to.
Chris
So, yeah, if we could just have a little more defense, help out the stall a little bit. The offense will be there.
Katie Nolan
We have a really stupid bit that we're gonna. That I wanna do with you. Okay, let's do it. Are you sure?
Chris
I love stupid bits.
Katie Nolan
You don't wanna hear it first before you agree to it. No, you're right. Katie. Don't talk em out of it.
Isabella
It.
Katie Nolan
It's called Steve N or Steve Out.
Brady
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Are you in or out on the following sports takes?
Chris
I'll Give you credit, though, that was the most clever way of incorporating the Steven from Laguna I've ever seen. So well done.
Katie Nolan
Just so classic. Thank you. The. Okay, so in or out on the following sports takes. First one. The Stanley cup playoffs are the greatest event in sports.
Chris
Amanda.
Katie Nolan
The Angels should finally trade Mike Trout this summer.
Chris
Honestly, if that's what he wants, I'm fully in. Whatever. Yeah, whatever he wants. At this point. He's stuck with us for long enough, and the Angels are cursed right now, so I'm in if he wants it.
Katie Nolan
Your watch has ended, Mike Trout. You can go. Okay. Steve in or Steve out? This is the year that the Dallas Cowboys make their first super bowl appearance since 1996.
Chris
I should say Steve out. So bad. But. But the hype, as we get closer to the season, as it does, because I'm an idiot. The hype is. Is. Is increasing. We had a good draft, and now I'm sitting here going like, maybe we fixed the defensive problems. We're gonna go from, like, last in defensive efficiency to maybe a top three and get to the Super Bowl.
Katie Nolan
As long as Jerry doesn't get in the way of it, right?
Chris
Yeah. It's a big uphill battle. But I. I mean, I'm a. I am a lonely, miserable Cowboys fan, and I will say steve in.
Katie Nolan
Damn. All right. Steve in or Steve out? The flagstick should remain in while putting
Brady
Steve out.
Chris
100%. I'm a little more old school there if you need it. If we're hurrying up and we're trying to keep it going, that's fine. But. Yeah. Flagstick goes out.
Katie Nolan
Steve in or Steve out? Steven Colletti would win a decathlon among the cast of Laguna Beach.
Chris
Again, wannabe athlete. I'm gonna claim it in.
Katie Nolan
Steve in or Steve out? You would let your own kid be on a reality show in high school?
Chris
All right, so because I did it, I can't say out or in. But here's my plan. Tell me what you think. I'm gonna kind of push. Not push the show, but show it to them at an age and say, you know, don't you think dad was pretty cool back in the day? And the more maybe I try to push them to watch it and see it, the more lame they're gonna think it is perfect. And then they will say, I never want to do that.
Katie Nolan
It's perfect.
Chris
Is it?
Katie Nolan
Show it to them in middle school.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Maybe bring their friends over and show them and be. And be embarrassing.
Chris
You guys want to see what happens in Cabo?
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Be embarrassed it goes, dad's about to get in a big fight. You gotta watch this. Everybody sit down. Perfect.
Chris
I'll let you know. It goes.
Katie Nolan
Brilliant. They will cringe and they'll go, I never want to do that. Okay, last one. Steve in or Steve out? Spencer Pratt for mayor of Los Angeles.
Chris
I'm an Orange county resident, so I got no dog in the fight.
Katie Nolan
Katie out. Katie all the way out. Stephen, thank you so much for being here and for doing this. Hold on. Let me plug your show in a proper way, because when does it. It came out yesterday. Season two premiered yesterday.
Chris
All episodes, all seasons are now streaming on Netflix. It's a premiere of season two. Yeah. Please check it out and give it a double thumbs up. You'll be supporting indie TV and hopefully you cracking the algorithms a little bit and we'll get another season.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Breakthrough. Everyone is doing great. Season two premiered globally on Netflix Monday, May 11th. So go find it, give it. Whatever the thing is. It's thumbs up on Netflix. Yeah. Just get in there and do some clicking. It's Steven. We love Stephen. Thank you so much.
Chris
Of course. Thanks for having me.
Katie Nolan

Chris
Check out this guy and his bird.
Katie Nolan
What is this, your first date? Oh, no.
Brady

Katie Nolan
And the winner by knocking is Saturday. Bring it on. Okay, welcome back. Here we are at the end of the podcast where we like to go through our mailbag. First of all, how great was Stephen Coletti? Stephen, the way Brady, good job on Steven. Steve out. He said it's the most creative way anyone has used Steven.
Brady
Thanks. Because I know everyone's tried.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I'm sure. And it's just so. Stephen. It's just so iconic and fun.
Brady
I was a freshman in college. It was. I was. Laguna was a huge part of my life, too.
Katie Nolan
No, dude. And, like, when Kristen Cavallari married Jay Cutler, I was like, what's going on? And then that was. And that's. And that has run its course. We no longer. That's not happening anymore. Let's get into these emails and voicemails. Obviously, this week, a lot of it was in regards to the celebrity Jeopardy All Stars semifinal. Me, my. My dear friend Mina Kimes and Lisa Ann Walter facing off in a battle of hot girls. Just going for the cup again. If you haven't seen it yet, I. That has to be a you problem. I've been not talking about this since October. I need to talk about this now. So if you haven't seen it yet, go, because I'm about to say exactly what happened. I didn't win. I didn't win. But Mina won. And we are happy and supportive of our friend Mina. Sure, it took me a couple days. Sure, I had to cool off, but I'm happy for her and. And we are rooting for her in the final. Let's take a listen. Chris, I'm just gonna let you sort of run point on which. Which correspondences we go to. Where do you want to start? Where are we going first?
Producer Chris
We're going to voicemail from Zach. Let's start off with Zach's voicemail.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Chris
Hey, Katie and the casualties.
Katie Nolan
It's Zach in Tennessee. I wasn't able to watch the celebrity
Chris
Jeopardy semifinal live, so I was catching
Katie Nolan
up on it today. And I'm so sorry. That genuinely broke my heart. I feel despondent right now. It's okay. It's okay to hurt. Man.
Chris
That was brutal.
Katie Nolan
Just brutal. I love you. I mean it. Keep your head up. Oh, thanks, Zach. I love you. And I mean it as well. I've now played, what, five games of Celebrity Jeopardy. And this was the worst one I've ever I've had by far. First round, you see me looking around and going like their scores are going up. Mine's staying right around $500. Just sitting there in the middle going, at some point here, I'm gonna have to jump in. Lot of the clues. Nothing happening. Now to paint a picture. This is the second taping of the day. We did our quarterfinals. The first round was taped. Mine was early morning. You know, I love that. So I was first up in the morning. We did the quarterfinal. I won that. Then I went to get my first meal of the day. Didn't eat dinner the night before. I got in too late on my flight, went to sleep. Got a terrible night of sleep. No Dan this time around. Dan was there my first time I did Celebrity Jeopardy. No Dan this time. And no food. Bad night of sleep. Go in, I win that game. And I was like, thank God. I need to eat. I go out to eat. I get the text. Your next match is tonight against Lisa and Walter. And I'm like, great. The lady who beat me in a final and Mina Kimes. And I'm like, oh, crazy. Because I hadn't even thought I saw Mina when I was leaving my episode. And I was like, hell, yeah. I didn't know they booked you for this. I hope you win. Not even thinking, if she wins, that means I'm gonna have to play against Mina. Mina, my very smart friend who went to an Ivy League school. Mina, who is better than me at everything. I was like, great, Mina's here. This is gonna be fun. So we go in and then just. Wouldn't you know it, Mina and I both had the worst games of our Jeopardy. Career. Just neither of us rose to the occasion. Both of us continuously falling flat on our faces. I think every double jeopardy she got, which was most of them, I knew the answer. She didn't. Then I finally get one. I go, let's go. I'm risking a bunch. I don't get it. There was a clip I should have gotten. Can we play this? This one hurts specifically because of where I work. Please take a listen to a moment from last night's Celebrity Jeopardy.
Chris
Lighten up. Don't be so this binary star in Canis Major. Actually, it's plenty light. 25.4 times as luminous as our sun.
Katie Nolan
Whatever. I'll Katie what is Alpha Centauri? No, I'm sorry. Oh, my God. Shouldn't have tried it.
Chris
I like taking the shot. Lisa. Anina, don't be so serious.
Katie Nolan
Of course, that's where I work.
Producer Chris
My wife and I were laughing so hard at that.
Katie Nolan
Now, of course, listening to it back, I hear the obvious hint at the beginning of the clue that says, don't be so. But I can't explain properly in the moment in jeopardy. There is so much going on up here to the point where there are some clues that even watching it back last night, I went. I didn't hear that. I did not hear that. Usually there'll be clues that somebody else buzzes in on and it doesn't really matter, but there's times where your brain at least. Maybe I should only speak for myself. But my brain just goes, we need to cope with something that just happened. We're not listening to that clue. We're dealing with something else. And so I just had half heard it. And then you can tell by the way I buzzed in. I was like, you just, just. You can't let this pass by. You know the name of a star. Just say the name of a star and maybe you'll get it right. It's time to start taking risks. You are down. And I took a risk and it was. It happened to be the company I work for. Devastating for me. Just a devastating moment.
Brady
Katie, I got a question.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
Format wise, when Ken's reading the clue out loud and we see it on the screen at home, where is it to you?
Chris
Visually?
Katie Nolan
It's a really good question. I believe the. And this is funny because I can't remember, but I think the whole screen becomes it. I think the board becomes it. If I recall correctly. It's happening. There is a up above us. You'll see me look up at. Sometimes I'll look up and straight ahead, that is where you see your scores. And you see, like Mina's score and you see Lisa an score. So I could keep going, like, all right, where are we at? But the actual monitor, I think the whole. I don't remember. Honestly, I should.
Brady
So you're. You're listening to Ken like you're locked on him. Just the way you take it in.
Katie Nolan
The side of the big board has left lights. And when it is time to buzz in, the lights flash. So if you buzz in famously, if you buzz in before that, you get locked out. So you don't want to go too early. And most people wait for the lights by my. And now listen, I'M a seasoned vet at this point. By my fifth game, I'm listening to him and going off of him because I know, like, as soon as he's done, somebody sitting at the judges table is opening up the ability to buzz in. And so he, as soon as he hits it, I'm going to try to hit it. Which means I'm going off. Off of Ken talking.
Producer Chris
That's crazy. There's so many things to pay.
Katie Nolan
It's a lot. And you're also trying to be charming because it is, at the end of the day, not really about winning. It's supposed to be about making a good TV show, which I saw a lot of people be very kind and go like, it was very entertaining, it was a very good show. And like, that part of it was great. But it's just like sitting on this for this many months. Imagine if Orion Kirkering, after throwing that horrendous ball to the plate, had to wait. Wait. How many months ago was October?
Brady
7.
Katie Nolan
Had to wait 7 months knowing how it went, unable to talk to anybody about it or tell anybody that it happened and just had to live, have people experience it as if it were live and tweet at them about it. It's crazy to have to sit and wait and know the outcome. It's been a miserable. But I also, it helped me sort of process it, I guess, to the point where I'm like, okay, about the things I got wrong. Let's see if we have any. What else do we have? Chris?
Producer Chris
We have an email from Alex, who asks, I was watching the Titanic clash between you and Mina, which was riveting. But I have to ask, why not risk it all? I'll hang up and listen. Love you.
Katie Nolan
Okay, so part of probably what Zach was referring to and Alex, love you, Mina. Thank you for your question. Part of what they were referring to about how heartbreaking this was is by the end of Triple Jeopardy, where was I going into final. Final was I.
Brady
You were second.
Katie Nolan
I think I might have been in third.
Brady
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
And so first thing I did your answer first.
Brady
You. They.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, you're right. You're right. So the first thing I did they go. The category for Final Jeopardy. Is AI. Make your wagers. Now, this is a common misconception about Jeopardy. And I don't know how, but I will say, just in case anyone doesn't know, you make your wager before you see the clue. You make the wager based off of the category. It could go either way. But you can't go like, oh, I know. The answer to this. So I'll wager I'll risk it all. You're just risking on it may go either way. And I'll remind you in the final of Celebrity Jeopardy last season where I was, I risked it all and I got it wrong, which means I ended with zero. Morocco, who was in first place and who I was most worried about. Risked a lot, got it wrong, and Lisa Ann ended up winning. I don't remember if she specifically wagered nothing last year, but she ended up being the. The one who was standing with the most money and she won this year. I get to the end, I'm like, fuck it, I'm just gonna risk it all. I risk it all as my wager and I'm sitting there and then I go, don't make the same mistake twice. Don't make the same mistake twice. Last time you risked it all. Ended up losing it all. Cuz you got the final Jeopardy wrong. And I think I got a lot of final jeopardies wrong. My last one. So I was like, you're not usually very good at Final Jeopardy property. Maybe you should just risk nothing. Maybe they'll both risk a lot and get it wrong. And you'll be there standing with your money, doing a Lisa Ann to Lisa Ann. That's what you should do. So I had to call them over and go, can I change this to zero? And at first they were like, no. And I was like, no, please, I don't. They had to like consult to see if it was allowed. They changed it to zero for me. Okay? They change it to zero for me. We come back, they tell us the clue. I don't know the answer. It was like this. Does anyone remember it? It was, it was this.
Brady
This AI companion is named after an ancient Egyptian source of all, but it
Katie Nolan
was an ancient library or something like that. And so I didn't know the answer right away, but I went through all the AI assistants I knew in my head and I was like, siri, I don't see that connecting. Like Claude or whatever. I'm like, I don't see that connecting. And then I said, Alexa. And I go, well, that could I get guess be like the Library of Alexandria. So I'll just write Alexa and we'll see what happens. Shout out Trevor Project. So I'm sitting there waiting. That was a charity I played on behalf of and I was so proud to do. And I, I did earn them some money. Not as much as I should have, but I. So I'm sitting there, they go to Me first. They go, who you write down? Alexa. Ken goes. Incredible. Yeah. Correct. And how much did you wager? Big reveal. Goose egg. Okay. Ken's like she's sitting where she's at. Next they go to. I assume it was Lisa Ann was next. She guesses something.
Brady
Mina was second.
Katie Nolan
Okay, Mina goes. She guesses something wrong. What did she wager? It was something very specific, some specific amount of money that gets eliminated from her total. And she's got more money than me. And then Lisa Ann goes and she gets it wrong. Wrong. Which means Lisa, which means Mina wins again. Very happy for Mina. Very proud of Mina. Mina goes. I didn't even get it right. I was like, I know. Are you trying to turn me into the joker? I know. You didn't even get it right. And technically the right thing to do, wager wise, which she texted me the next day just so you know, don't beat yourself up. That was the right. Right thing to do is to wager nothing in the hopes that what you said would happen. And she says, oh, I spent the night before on Reddit studying wagering strategy and complex strategy says that two thirds of your blah, blah, blah, blah. She goes into some deep neck. And I'm like, any other celebrity Jeopardy. Opponent would have just wagered it all or wagered not like they don't. They're not thinking about complex wagering strategy this way way. But Mina Kimes is. And that's why we love her. And that's why I had to go like, congrats to you. If I had, I should have taken it as the universe. When I locked in the wagering at all and them going like, we can't change it. I should have gone like, and that's the universe saving me from myself. Just leave it. But instead I of course went, no, come on, please, please, please. I haven't change it. And so that's what. Technically it's not wrong, but I am it. Just knowing that I was gonna do it a different way and it's just been hard to live with. But it is what it is and I got it right. I got it right. Do we have any other correspondence about this show that we could play?
Producer Chris
We have one more. This is an email that we got from Emily who says, hey, casualties. When Katie said a whales during Celebrity Jeopardy, in response to the clue about San Diego, my husband started crying with laughter and made me pause the damn show. And then he made me watch the clip from Acumen that it came from. Did Katie follow through on saying vagina or did they mute that. It's been 20 minutes and he's still giggling about it.
Katie Nolan
So funny.
Producer Chris
This can't have been for nothing.
Katie Nolan
Do we have. Do we have the clip?
Producer Chris
We do. Let's have a listen.
Katie Nolan
Let's. Plus it. Mina saintly places for 600.
Chris
The bridge seen here connects this California city to nearby Corona. That's San Diego Lena.
Katie Nolan
We're doing great, guys. Doing great. San Diego. Was Saint Diego a whale? Let's do drinks are on me for 1500. I don't genuinely. I don't remember. I do not remember if I said it. I bet I didn't. But I don't know.
Producer Chris
It's hard to know whether you caught yourself from saying it or whether it just like, straight up got edited.
Katie Nolan
And if I did, if I did. If I stopped myself. Mina's timing is perfect. Perfect because her going like. And I will start what I'm gonna say here so as to. But I don't remember. There was. I. I know there was one joke I told that bombed. It was me drowning, trying to make space for myself and going, like, what even is this category? And I had been like, really not looking forward to even just that, to be losing. And then also not funny. And I think that got cut because I didn't see it. So I was like, cool, okay. Thank God. Thank God. Um, but I don't. I don't. San Diego. I wasn't thinking. I. It's truly the worst game of Jeopardy. I've ever played. And what's cool is it's the last one I'm gonna play for, like, a really long time. Because this was an All Star season. It was the only reason we all got called back. So I. I can't imagine they're gonna just do an All Star season again anytime soon, which means I just gotta live with going out. I think my favorite part of it were the moments during commercial breaks when Mina and I would. And sometimes Lisa Ann and I. I would talk about, like, there was one with Mina. It didn't make it into the broadcast, but where I looked over it, I was like, you need to lock in. You need to lock in. You are, like spinning out right now. You need to lock in. You have this. You are not out of the game. Triple jeopardy. Anything can change. And it was just these moments of, like, the having her to look at and us both go, like, why are we having the worst game of our lives? Watching Mina get that many. Double Jeopardy or. Yeah. Double what? Daily doubles. Wrong was like. And they were all ones that I knew of course. And then when it's my turn for my daily double, and of course it's about. Of course it's a gambling word that I would have known if I were more of a gambler. I'm sitting there and Mina makes a noise. She didn't mean to. And she later actually was like, I'm sorry, I thought maybe you've heard me did that. I was, like, trying to find the answer in my brain. And I hear Mina go, like. As in, like she gets all the easy ones. A noise I had thought about making at all of her that she had also gotten wrong. But I hear her go, like, halfway through the question, which signals to me, she knows it already, which also signals to me. It's obvious and you should know it. Just start answering as soon as he's done asking. Instead of taking the required or the necess the time I was allotted and thinking it through, reading the clue again, I just went safeguard. And then I see his face go like, no. And I was like, of course not.
Brady
Well, he's talking about a hedge fund. And when he says it in my mind, I'm like, I know what a hedge fund is from billions.
Katie Nolan
I don't. I know billions and gam and sports gambling. It's like it was right there for me. I listened to it once and then said the first thing I thought instead of actually just, like, calming down, ignoring my friend who made a noise next to me that made me feel stupid. No, it's. It is what it is. I made mistakes. Mistakes were made. I think we had a lot of fun. I think we had a lot of fun. We earned a lot of money for charities that really needed and deserved it. So again, I will say, please support the Trevor Project if you have a chance. To the. The. They got rid of specialized help for the LGBTQ community on the su, like the National Suicide Hotline, which to me is like, evil. It's really evil. When people are at the. At their la, they are, like, feeling like they have no one to talk to, and you take the service that they reach out to and you make it unsafe for them. Feels evil to me. And so any little help I could put towards the Trevor Project to have sort of taken over the funding of that I wanted to do. So I will encourage anybody who watched it and who feels moved by that to also donate to the Trevor Project. They're wonderful. They help with suicide prevention, crisis intervention for the. For the. For LGBTQ youth. So shout out to them. I don't know how much I actually earned Them. Brady, do you know how much money I made from this?
Brady
$50,000.
Katie Nolan
Nothing. 30. That's nothing. It should have been a million.
Brady
It's $50,000. It's not nothing. And it's a great thing and we're proud of you.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. All right, do we have anything else that we wanted to do? We have any other emails or stuff that we wanted to say?
Producer Chris
We can end on on one more email.
Katie Nolan
Okay.
Producer Chris
This. This email does not have a name attached. So it's just going to be from unknown.
Katie Nolan
It's probably a virus.
Producer Chris
This is about the Mets hello Kitty day and this unknown person just emails in and says, I have secured tickets to this game.
Isabella
Okay.
Producer Chris
I may have an inn getting bubble heads. Oh, if I can secure them. Where can I send one for Isabella? Does Katie want one also? I'm going with multiple people and only one will need it for the child in our group.
Katie Nolan
First of all, that's so rude. It's so rude. Go like we're all going to this game and we only have one kid and who could else possibly want this kind? We should get one.
Isabella
Yeah, I think so.
Katie Nolan
We should get one for Isabella. I would say one for the studio, but I don't want to make them get us two. So if we only get one, we'll just give it to Isabella. And if Isabella wants that to live in the studio, that's her choice.
Brady
Which feels like there's no name attached to this email. It makes me worry about giving them an address. Do we just have them drop it like at a park bench?
Isabella
Confidential files. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
What was it called in the Americans when you would have to go pick something up and they're like, put it at the dead drop. So we'll just get a dead drop for the hello Kitty Mets bobblehead somewhere in like Madison Square park and we'll
Brady
grab it hollowed out fence post.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, perfect. We'll get that set up for you anonymous and we'll let you know.
Producer Chris
This person was anonymous for our own safety. I feel like it's just very also
Katie Nolan
the way they're talking. I have secured an in with the bag with the Mets and I.
Brady
Very few people admit to being a Mets fan, so.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, true. They're like, listen, I don't go there cuz I like it, but I can get you the item that you're looking for, so. All right. Yeah, we'll take one of those. Weirdo. We'll take one of those. Unless you're a freak, you know, Unless you're a bad guy in which case, we'll still take one, but just be cool about it and drop it off somewhere that makes us feel safe. All right. I feel like it's time to. I do feel, while I do feel relieved that it has aired, I also still feel like I'm sitting with the. Just the memory of what could have been, you know, what could have been. But we're so proud of me. We're so proud of Mina.
Producer Chris
You're still good at it.
Katie Nolan
Well, thank you, Chris.
Producer Chris
I don't usually watch, like, Jeopardy. And I've only watched it because of you, and it's just. It's still impressive.
Chris
It's.
Producer Chris
I know it must be tough for you, but my goodness, I just. I still watch you and I'm like, she's good. She's really good.
Katie Nolan
She's all right. She's fine. It's just like I knew so little in that game. I was like, what's going on? On. Why are they asking me about a fictional movie about John Quincy Adams? I. I didn't properly prepare for the presidents of it all because I don't know the presidents. They're all one guy in my head. But I listened to a. A comedy podcast that went back through the presidents and then texted the person who made it after and said, this is the only work I'm doing for presidents for Jeopardy. So I really hope these facts are right. And he responded and said, everything I said is a fact, but don't listen to what the other person said. And I was like, well, that's. That's not great. So it immediately called into question the hours of the podcast I had already listened to, and it got me second guessing myself. But look, the best thing about Jeopardy. Is it's about getting smarter. And we can all get smarter from that game and we all will root for Mina. The final. They switched up this schedule on us like crazy. Tomorrow night tonight and tomorrow night, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, they're doing the semifinals. And then I think Friday they're running the final final. So it is this upcoming week. This Friday, we will tune in and root for Mina on the final and we'll see who she goes up against. We don't know yet, but we'll find that out tonight in the next night. And in general, I just, you know, how cool for sports media. We got two gals out here in sports media making it that far into the. I thought that was pretty neat. So. Shout out to Mina. Shout out to Jeopardy. Shout out Ken Jennings. Shout out Lisa and Walter. Shout out Michael Davies. You know, the Whole crew over there. Just a wonderful experience that again, I don't get to have for like a really long time. So. Okay, that feels like it for our show. Yeah, we. I didn't miss anything. Great. Fantastic. If you want to reach out to us, you always can. Don't forget we're going to do mailbag episodes. So get your weird. You know, is a hot dog a sandwich? Don't ask that. But that type of question. Or like my friends and I always debate this about sports. Get us those either to our email Casuals at katynold@gmail.com or to our voicemail. 646-801-0043. Follow us on IG and tick tock. Isabella
I'm okay. I'm better.
Katie Nolan
Good.
Isabella
Ish.
Katie Nolan
Better. Ish. But not best.
Isabella
Yeah, not best, but getting there.
Katie Nolan
Okay, good.
Brady
So we're 100 or minute 110 of the podcast. We get around to Isabella.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, she was sick. Yeah, that's right. I just forgot. There's a lot going on. Okay. Pre tapes and post tapes and things from October. Finally seeing the light of day. I'm just a little lost. So I'd like to go home and do drugs now. I'm gonna do that. Love you all. Mean it. And we'll see you back here. Oh, and thank you to Stephen Coletti. Thank you to Stephen Coletti who was totally cool when he walked in and I went fuck. Oh my fucking God. Crazy. Yeah, cool. So thanks. Love you. Mean it. See you next week. Bye. This episode of Casuals dives deep into the intersection of reality TV nostalgia, sports culture, and the biggest stories of the week. Katie Nolan is joined by Laguna Beach and One Tree Hill alum Stephen Colletti, unearthing memories of early 2000s reality TV and exploring his surprisingly keen sports fandom. The Casuals crew also covers playoff drama in hockey, MLB superstitions, schedule release shenanigans, AI-generated sports content, slumping baseball stars, and a mailbag that includes a candid debrief about Katie’s tough Celebrity Jeopardy loss.
Cal Raleigh (“Big Dumper”): Broke a 0-for-38 slump by showering in his full uniform, per teammate’s advice (28:04).
“He showered in full uniform after Monday night’s game. So went back into the clubhouse, and showered in his uniform to wash off the bad vibes.” – Katie Nolan
Shohei Ohtani: Ended a home run drought via pragmatic batting practice adjustments—not superstition (and with Ice Cube serendipitously in the booth).
“Ohtani went, well, I used my perfect baseball brain, scanned the problem, diagnosed, figured out what I would need to do, did it, and then I fixed it.” [33:03]
A.J. Ewing’s Debut: 21 years old, makes historic debut—first MLBer since 1900 with 3 walks, a triple, stolen base, and multiple RBIs in debut (34:03).
Noah Syndergaard:
Stadium Bans: No vuvuzelas, no “significant quantities” of paper or powder, only empty water bottles, umbrellas banned, etc.
Ticket Prices & Halftime Drama: Secondary market tanking, halftime show at MetLife threatens to damage natural grass.
FIFA final ticket price: $11k+ direct from FIFA [48:51]
Life After Laguna – Stephen describes the surreal experience of being thrust into fame as a teen and his complicated relationship with a show that “shot it like a scripted drama” (63:12).

This episode blends nostalgia, humor, pop culture, vulnerable self-reflection, and smart sports talk, serving both “the sports-curious and the sports-obsessed.” Stephen Colletti’s appearance is equal parts sincere, entertaining, and enlightening—revealing the lifelong impact of teen fame and the versatility required to survive in media. Katie’s candor, especially around personal disappointment, grounds the show in something universal: sports, like life, can break your heart, but make for great stories.
