Hello! It's the podcast that's now officially coined the phrase "Pop a Mooner". Today, Katie and the Casualties welcome the Larry O'Brien Trophy into the studio for a LIVE (albeit silent) appearance, and break down the ethics of milk chugging as a televised celebration, crashing out in more ways than one, the NBA Playoffs and Isabella learning the anxiety of rooting for a playoff team in real time, her weekend trip to Citi Field to see Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani, the Orioles' three-game winning streak following Melanie Newman's concussion, and whether a bottle of wine is reeeeeaally the right apology gift, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the WNBA, the PWHL, Austin Hays, and your weekly darts update. Then, Metta World Peace [53:07] joins the show to break down the NBA Playoffs, his career with the Pacers in light of growing up a New Yorker, why the 90's NBA style is BACK, his support of Papa Haliburton being banned, SGA being a potential GOAT, and his picks for the two series.

Hey, Isabella, did you see that? Tom Cruise's co star Hayley Atwell had to apologize to him because he invited the, the crew over, the cast over to bond during the making of this Mission Impossible. And he found out that she had two dogs, two French bulldogs. And he was like, bring your dogs over. And they were all watching movies and her dogs wouldn't stop farting on him.
Isabella
I was scared you were gonna say, like, the bulldogs messed up his entire house. But farting, Was he okay with it?
Brady
I don't know. I think, you know, I wouldn't be.
Isabella
Too mad if some dogs farted on me. Yeah, honestly, I wouldn't be.
Brady
If they're cute. If they're cute. It does sound like a, like a problem that should be checked out. I feel like if your dog is constantly.
Isabella
Well, that's what I'm saying. Was it like a constant fart session or was it just like a little, little toot?
Brady
Right. And did they, did they, were they loud or were they proud? You know, like, were they.
Isabella
Was it a simultaneous fart? Was it both farts?
Brady
Did they fart in harmony? In perfect. In a two fart harmony?
Isabella
Do you want to do a two part harmony right now?
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
One, two, three.
Brady
Yours was short. Yours was really short. Brady loves this. I know.
Isabella
I'm like, he's loving.
Brady
This is Brady's favorite episode of the podcast. Should we start it? Hello. Hi. Hello there. Hi. Welcome to Casuals, the sports podcast that's super chill and wants you to be here and just wants you to love sports like we love sports. I'm your host, Katie Nolan, joined today by the Casualties. We've got Brady, we have Chris, we have Isabella. Later on, we're going to be joined by Metta World Peace. We're going to talk about the finals a little bit, get his opinions on those. As a guy who played for both the Knicks and the Pacers, first I got to tell you, if you want to email us, you can do that at casuals with Katienolan gmail.com our voicemail 646-800-010043 on IG and tick tock. We are at Casuals, the podcast Little Bit of Housekeep. I had an idea Casualties. And the idea was to. I was going to call it like a separate line because that's a sports radio thing from the past. But it will be that same number, 646-801-0043. And I figured people should call in when they have. Did you see that moment? Like if you just watch something crazy in a game and. Or if you're even if you're like at your, I don't know, little cousin's little league game and something crazy happens and call the number, explain what happened. Hit us with a did you see that? And then maybe we can like toss one of those in every. You know, because I want to hear from fans that are like the people that are watching. I don't know, Chris. Like darts live. We can say what happened. But if somebody who was watching it calls in and is like, did you see that? I think that would be a cool way to get the fan voice into the. What do you, what do you say? Casualties.
Chris
I'm on board. I think that's great.
Brady
Yeah. Everybody's thumbs up. We got to get a full majority. Okay. I'm bored.
Metta World Peace
We have another line. We can sell another line. The radio head in me is just turning.
Brady
You're nuts. I was. It's the same line, though. It's just the same phone. Wow. Okay, so Brady's already. And someone has to, you know, someone has to think about the profits.
Metta World Peace
Someone has to be a late stage capitalist here. Okay.
Brady
Yeah. Well, we're all stuck in it. Yap. I guess. Here's where I yapped to you about something that's been bothering me. The okay, so Fox had has the rights to some baseball games and they also had the rights to the Indianapolis 500. And something that happened this weekend week bothered me during baseball games. So this was on, I want to say Thursday, the Sox played and there was a quote unquote fan in the stands at Fenway who, after Jaron Duran's home run, chugged milk out of a jug, poured it all over his face, and the booth was like, check out that fan going crazy down there. Now, the fan was wearing an Indianapolis 500 shirt. He was Chugging the milk out of the same jug they chug the Indianapolis 500 milk out of or whatever. Pretty obviously a plant, right? And. And I just. I don't know. Maybe I'm. I'm from an era. I'm from a pre truth. I'm from the truth era. I know we're post truth now. I know nothing matters anymore, but I just feel like in a building full of fans, did you really need to plant a fake fan to try to promote Indianapolis? Couldn't you have just done that and, like, highlighted the actual fans instead of having somebody pretend to be a fan and to care so much that they, what, brought their own milk? How are you gonna get a jug of milk into Fenway? I don't think you can ask for a jug of milk anywhere. Where would the milk have come from? Obviously a production truck. And I get it. It's TV magic. And you go, no one's gonna even think twice about this. But, like, we are fans watching it. And so don't tell me that guy's me. He's not me. Where did he get the milk? Why is he wearing that shirt? What's going on? And so I just didn't like that. I just don't like when in a world full of sports fans, at a time when sports fans are getting pri. Like the real die hard fans are getting priced out of going to games anyway because they're too expensive. Regular season baseball games included. But obviously, in the guise of. In the. In the lens of postseason, as we talked about with Sam Morrill last episode, it just feels like, what are we doing? Making this guy pretend to be a fan for the broadcast? Did not, like, two thumbs down.
Metta World Peace
Fox has a long history of being the plantiest of the broadcast.
Brady
Well, they also. I mean, when we. When I was on Fox Sports 1, we would do a lot of, like, tweet segments where they go, let's see what the audience says. Allegedly, a lot of those tweets were just from producers making new accounts.
Metta World Peace
Get out of here.
Brady
And it's just like, I get it. Brady, I could tell by the tone of your voice that, like, we know it's like the best kept secret or the worst kept secret or whatever. It's a known. But I always have bristled against it because I've always been like, there is a world of people interacting with our content. We should engage those people in the content that we're making. It's obviously much easier. Like they say, it's hard to work with babies and animals. It's Hard to work with Internet commenters, sure. But that's like, kind of the job, and working with fans is kind of the job. And I just feel like faking it implies that the real thing isn't interesting enough on its own. And then what would this all be for? So I don't know. I'll take a stand and say, don't show me a fake fan celebrating a home run because you want me to watch a different property, that you have the rights to talk to me about the race and why it's cool. I would love to see the numbers. Unlike the ROI of how many people tuned in because. Because they saw a guy at the Sox game chug milk. I would love to know.
Chris
Well, the Indy 500 did get record numbers this weekend.
Brady
Okay, let me.
Chris
Most of that would probably be from that game.
Brady
Let me bite my tongue. Because actually, milk chugging is the number one way to bring new fans into a racing sport. I should have known that what happened in it, because I didn't watch it.
Chris
Alex Palo won. Alex Rossi crashed out pretty early. His car just burst into flames at one stage, essentially. What was it, Brady? A fuel leak?
Brady
Yeah.
Metta World Peace
Can I tell you, like, there's a certain amount of panic that I didn't expect when you watching someone, you know, catch on fire on live tv. Like, I wasn't ready for this. And Alex pulled into the pit stop, and, you know, he's got a little mechanical error, pulls into the pit, and. And you know, they're working the car. It's clearly a bad thing because he's running in fifth place and he wasn't skipping. He's going to lose a lot of position on the track. And then suddenly, there's just the left side of his car. There's just flames coming up from it. And I'm watching this. I'm like, a, not supposed to be on fire, but B, when you're in an IndyCar, the open wheeled car, you are tucked into a tiny little capsule. They have to put you in it and then put the steering wheel in, because that's how hard it is to get in and out. So you're in there. And as this car is catching on fire, there are crew members reaching into the flaming car. They have their flame protective suit on, but they're still reaching into the fire, ripping the steering wheel out and, like, pulling Alex physically out of the car. One of the crew members, like, his arms are on fire as he's doing this. And, like, there are other crew members that are now spraying the flaming crew member. They're spraying Alex down. They're just hosing them down, like laying down on the track. And in my mind, this is all going on in like 90 seconds. And I'm watching Alex on fire on TV, like, panicking. And it turns out he was fine because their safety equipment is unbelievable. But, like, me being like, I know him, he's on fire. I'm not cool with this. I don't want to watch this. But now I can't because I need to know he's okay.
Brady
Well, there goes my big finale for today's podcast. I was gonna light myself on fire.
Isabella
I was thinking maybe for some, you know, to draw some listeners, maybe I could go somewhere and like, wear a casual shirt and chugs of milk.
Brady
Let's try that. Yeah. You know, also, let's get a casual T shirt first. Let's get a casual T shirt.
Isabella
I'll make it. I'll just find some random screen printing business.
Brady
You know what, we could go fully self referential and make a shirt that says pop a moo ner and then it'll be you chugging milk in that shirt.
Chris
Wow.
Brady
And it'll say casuals on the back. I think we print this, get that done today. Can you do that today? Isabella, I think you're so far from.
Metta World Peace
Home plate at that point, trying to explain to people what Papa Mooner is.
Brady
You know what, Brady? You're thinking about it too much and you're anti fire, so I don't trust your opinion at all.
Chris
One more thing, by the way. On the Indy 500, Kyle Larson, who attempted to do the double duty on Sunday, which is the Indy 500, into the Coca Cola 600, wasn't able to complete it because he also crashed out on, I think it was lap 96 or something in the Indy 500. So was unable to complete both races now.
Brady
Not funny, okay? Not funny crashing. But it is funny. That crashed out now means what it means to the youths. And so when you're like, he crashed out on lap 35.
Isabella
Show me a video.
Brady
And he's just like, God, this sucks. I hate driving. I'm so fucking sick of driving. All I'm ever doing is just driving. My foot on the pedal. There's cars going by. This is insane. He's on fire. Just crashing out. Just absolutely crashing out. They have to leave the race.
Chris
He also crashed in the Coca Cola 600 as well.
Brady
Jesus.
Chris
246, not a great day for car last.
Brady
Not a good day.
Metta World Peace
People get to wreck a car twice.
Chris
Yeah, double crash.
Brady
And then this is Well, I feel like a kid in high school did it. It was always the kid who got the nice car. His first car was a nice car. Then he totals the Audi and then like the next day has a new Audi and you're like, excuse me, excuse me. I got this Honda Civic at the auction. Okay. Doesn't have a rear view mirror. Are they still doing that where you can only get one side view mirror? They used to make cars, Isabella, where they only had one of those like the side. Yes. They didn't both hat both doors didn't have them.
Isabella
That's crazy.
Brady
Yeah. Let's talk about basketball. Okay, so Thunder Wolves. Game four happened. The Thunder are now in the lead three one in the series. Shay Gilgis, Shane Gillis Alexander had 40 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a steely performance befitting the NBA MVP. And the Oklahoma City Thunder snapped back from a 42 point loss by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 128 to 126 in game four last night, Monday night, like I said, to take a 31 lead in the Western Conference finals. Is this the. So the loss, the 42 point loss, Chris, maybe this is a question for you, but it seems to me that in basketball, the nature of the sport, when you're up that many at the time, they lost that. Right? They had are. They were up by. It was two nothing. Right. The series, the OKC was up to nothing. Once you see them running away with it, you don't really, is it that you don't really try to close that gap cuz you just go, we'll take the loss and move on to the next game. Is that why that loss was 42 points? Because, because that seems, it would seem to imply to a casual fan that they got their asses kicked, but I would think it's because they, once they saw that they weren't going to win this one, they sort of just wrote it off that way. Is that crazy?
Chris
Yeah, I think it's a little from column A little from column B. Right. So like when you're not on, on a certain night, then nothing that you're going to try is going to work. So it could very easily. You could turn like a 20, 25 point deficit into like a 40 point deficit. But also at that stage you have to make sure, looking ahead, making sure everyone are primed for the following game. All your stars are, you know, getting some additional rest that they perhaps wouldn't otherwise get, minimizing the risk of injuries, things like that. Because it is a long Game. Right. It's a marathon, not a sprint. You want to make sure that you're putting your team in the best position to win these future games. So there's. There's definitely some element of that, but, you know, you still have to be playing pretty bad for a very long time to lose by that many points.
Brady
I mean, 42 is quite a bit, but they bounced back. What's everybody seeing in this series? What is everybody. I'm really rooting for the Timberwolves. I'd like to see them win. I think Anthony Edwards is fun. I think that.
Chris
And Edwards is. He's the guy that I want to see in the Finals.
Brady
Right.
Chris
He is one of the most entertaining, if not the most entertaining player left in the Finals, if not the entire NBA, to be honest. Um, it just looks like it's going to be a tough hill to climb from here. OKC have shown they are probably the best team in the NBA all season. They have incredible star power. These guys are young, but they know how to play together. I don't think they're going to let this series lead dwindle. Like a 3:1 lead is. Is a. Is. Not many teams come back from a three one series deficit to. To win the series, especially when you know they're up against a team as good as the Thunder. So I think the Thunder take it from here. It seems like that's the obvious prediction, but anything can happen. And I hope it does happen, because again, I would love to see Ann Edwards in the. In the Finals.
Brady
Yeah, I agree. We're going to get into both of these series. More later with Metta World Peace. But let's hop into Nick's pay. Nick's Pacers. That's where we. That's where we live. That's Isabella's.
Isabella
Yes.
Brady
You know, her heart, her soul.
Isabella
Although I will say, this most recent game, I almost gave up on sports.
Brady
And now explain that to me. Talk to me about that.
Isabella
It was probably the most stressed I've ever been watching a basketball game.
Brady
You're referring to game three?
Isabella
Yes, game three. We were down by 20. We did the thing where we came back and then we ended up winning. But it was just. I got to a point where I was so stressed, I was sweating, I was yelling, I was mean. And I was like, you know what? Like, maybe. Maybe sports isn't for me because I can't seem to detach in a healthy way in the way that other people can who, like, I don't know, like just regular sports fans. I just feel Like, I take it so seriously. I'm like, this just feels like it's part of my identity. And like, if anything bad happens, like, I just want to hurts.
Chris
Isabella, we let this ruin our entire summer. Like, one game can ruin an entire three month period for certain things.
Brady
Yes.
Isabella
Okay, that makes me feel better.
Brady
You're lucky you didn't know me the year that the Bruins won the league, set a record and then blew it, lost to the Panthers. You're lucky. That was a. I was a bitch. I was a bitch for a month. Do not talk to me. I was miserable. Something was taken from me personally. Yeah. I think sports absolutely are made for you. You are made for them. It's emotional. You're supposed to put your heart into it, put your back into it. Just really care, invest. It's a part of you. You're a part of it. It's gonna have ups, it's gonna have downs, but imagine how good the.
Isabella
I'm scared of my anger, though. That's the problem.
Brady
Okay. And let's. We can talk about that. What is the sort of. How is it presenting itself?
Isabella
I just like, I just want to punch a wall. Like when I get. And I'm like, I don't think I can punch a wall. I rent this apartment, right.
Brady
So I don't want to do it famously. Not renter friendly. To punch your wall. You can do your own backsplash.
Isabella
So there's a certain point where I can only be like. There was a point during the game where I was like, okay, I have to emotionally detach from the game. I can't get too emotionally invested because it'll really hurt me and I don't want to feel really hurt.
Brady
Well, let's do this. Do you guys have any, any, any things you've done to deal with stress in situations like this? Do you have. Do you have like a breathing exercise that we can give to Isabella?
Metta World Peace
My team took L's for 20 years.
Brady
Yeah.
Metta World Peace
Pretty much in everything.
Brady
Yeah.
Metta World Peace
I don't have a whole lot of expect to win but lose. I do a lot of stress baking.
Brady
Huh.
Metta World Peace
Like, I just try to kind of try to occupy my mind. Otherwise.
Brady
Okay.
Metta World Peace
Really manifest as rage. When you're used to, you know, going 63 and 99 so many times.
Brady
Sure. You're just sort of dead inside.
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah.
Brady
Yeah. Isabella, this is your future.
Metta World Peace
You get there, Isabella.
Brady
You'll get there.
Isabella
Okay. Okay. But can I ask you guys, just. Let me just ask you an opinion.
Brady
Okay.
Isabella
You're in a household, okay. With someone who hates your Team. Okay. And so you hear it all the time. All right. This series is more important to me as a fan of someone in the series and someone who hates the team.
Brady
Right.
Isabella
We can agree on that.
Brady
Yes.
Isabella
It means more to me. It's more important to me.
Brady
Yes.
Isabella
If in the moment we go down by 20 points and then. And then the hater goes. The hater, the hater goes. But, like, you got to. You got to just like, to be neutral. Like, that was a good basketball play. Why would you ask me that? Crush that question. That was not a good question to ask. Why would you do that? I'm. I am allowed to be mad after someone asked me that question, right?
Brady
Is it possible the hater is enjoying antagonizing you?
Metta World Peace
He had a name last episode. Now he's down to the hater.
Isabella
He doesn't get into him. This episode, he's just hater.
Brady
This episode, he's a Nets fan. What the fuck does he have to say to you? Just tell him they're not even around.
Isabella
I know, I know. But anyways, we won, so fine.
Brady
I know. I didn't think you'd be this upset after the win, I thought because, you.
Isabella
Know, it just felt like. It's like they. It's like, can we not do this? Like, okay, cool, great. Like, we. We made history and we could come back 20 points and win a game. But, like, what if we just didn't do that? What if we were just ahead in the beginning?
Chris
A win's a win, Isabella.
Metta World Peace
I know.
Chris
Any way you can get em.
Isabella
My blood pressure is like, fuck.
Brady
Damn.
Isabella
Can we move on to a different sport? Can we talk about some. You could still win this.
Brady
There is still hope.
Isabella
I know, but I can't give hope because then if I have too much hope, I will be fucking destroyed. Katie, do you have.
Chris
It's the hope that kills you.
Brady
It really is. It is absolutely the hope that kills. But if you give up on it, then you can't really enjoy the next step because you'll be like, I gave up on them. So you just gotta keep believing, Isabelle. You gotta keep doing the post it notes.
Isabella
I know. Okay. Okay.
Brady
You're doing a great job. You're doing amazing, sweetie. Maybe ship the hater out on a trip. Maybe he's not around for the next game.
Isabella
Yeah, no, you're right, actually.
Brady
Kick rocks.
Isabella
Dude, I got so mad. I was like, maybe. You know what? I won't go to this Dodgers game, Mets game tomorrow.
Brady
Oh, my God. We need to know about that.
Isabella
Okay.
Brady
This weekend you went To a Dodgers Mets game. Can we get a round of applause? Isabella went and watched live sports. Okay, talk. We. First question we discussed, you said you weren't sure what you were going to wear. You threw out some crazy ideas. We stopped you. We saved you from yourself. What did you end up wearing to the game?
Isabella
Just very. A basic outfit. No team affiliated.
Brady
Okay, well, I'm sure it wasn't a basic outfit. I'm sure you looked adorable. Thank you.
Metta World Peace
It was a giveaway day, wasn't it? Weren't they giving away?
Isabella
Yeah, we did. We like, were just behind when they ran out.
Brady
Damn. What were they giving away?
Isabella
A jersey. But I wasn't sure who was whose. It was.
Metta World Peace
I want to say it was Code Senga.
Brady
Yeah, that would have been cool, but you missed it, so. That's fine.
Isabella
That's fine.
Brady
What was the experience like? The Dodgers and the Mets.
Isabella
It was cool. I actually will say that this experience helped me solidify more. Like, understand baseball more.
Brady
Yeah. Why?
Isabella
Because, well, one, I literally was like, this is it. Like, I'm here for. I'm locked in for like, three hours. Like, I need to understand what's going on. Hell yeah.
Brady
Love that.
Isabella
Second thing that I needed to say. Shohei Ohtani, guys. Underwhelming.
Brady
What? Wait.
Isabella
He gave an underwhelming performance at this game.
Brady
Wait, what?
Isabella
And, yeah, I thought he hit a home run.
Brady
Was that Sunday?
Isabella
It might have been Sunday. Yeah.
Metta World Peace
He homered on the first pitch of the game Sunday.
Brady
Yeah, that's what it was. I thought that was the game you went to. No. Oh, that's a shame.
Isabella
Yeah, I was like, this is him.
Brady
Too late for the jersey giveaway. Too late for the jersey giveaway. Too early for Shohei's first pitch. Home run. Huh. Well. So you hate him now?
Isabella
No, I don't hate him. It's just. I wish that I, like, saw, you know, something good. Something good from him that day.
Brady
Kind of a bummer. How was the baseball overall?
Isabella
It was good.
Brady
Who won?
Isabella
I liked it. Mets.
Brady
That's always fun when the home team wins.
Isabella
Yeah. Although I will say Citi Field, it was, like, pretty balanced with, like, Dodgers fans.
Brady
Oh, really?
Isabella
Yeah. Like, I felt like I was around, like, an okay amount of Dodgers fans.
Brady
What's an okay amount of Dodgers fans?
Isabella
Like, enough to hear them. Yeah, like, enough to hear when, like, you're saying let's. You're trying to get the crowd to say let's go Mets, and you can hear a bit of let's go Dodgers.
Brady
Oh, it's such a strange Behavior like, what are we doing?
Isabella
By the way, I saw. And I think we talked about this at that one. One episode was the, like, the food with the. The Mets hat. There was like, a souvenir hat that, like, the nachos were in. And I'm pretty sure we talked about that in one episode.
Brady
We might have. What? Did you eat them?
Isabella
No, I ate. That was too expensive. That was like $25.
Brady
It's crazy. The food is crazy. Did you go to Shake Shack?
Isabella
No, but I heard there's like a big Shake shack with like, 16 windows.
Chris
Oh, did you get the date fried Oreos?
Isabella
No, that was the first time I.
Chris
Tried date Fried Oregon.
Isabella
I ate nachos.
Brady
But not those ones.
Isabella
No, not those. I got the nachos growing just in a regular plastic. Those ones were $17. So I was like, let me. Let me save. I don't need.
Brady
The recall you have for the receipt is fascinating.
Isabella
Yeah, I didn't need.
Metta World Peace
Who pitched? I don't remember. I don't remember. How much were nachos? 17.
Brady
$17? 17.
Isabella
Francisco Lindor is really good. I like that guy.
Brady
I knew. Yeah, we should have seen that coming. He's great.
Isabella
I didn't know that they have. I don't know if this is just strictly Mets, but they all have, like, a walk on song. That's cute.
Brady
To. To come up to the plate. Yeah, that's any in. At every home game, the home team will have their songs that they play.
Isabella
That's really.
Chris
Did you have a favorite song?
Isabella
Let me see. I think. I actually think it was Francisco who had. Was it my girl?
Brady
Yeah, for his daughter.
Isabella
Okay. One thing I learned, though, this was not at the game. This was the next day when I was watching the Sunday game on tv.
Brady
Look at you. I do a baseball game and then watching a baseball game.
Isabella
Because now I can understand it a little bit more.
Brady
Yes.
Isabella
The whole time I was like, why the fuck are they not hitting it? Like, I don't understand why they don't. This is boring. But now I have a better understanding as to why.
Brady
Okay.
Isabella
I did not know. I don't know if this is just Mets media. Francisco Lindor was having a whole interview while he was on second base with his wife.
Brady
Yeah, with his wife.
Isabella
Yeah. Like, they, like, set up an interview where, like, they had a camera on his wife and, like, the baby and, like, they were just asking each other questions. And then there were some media person, like, facilitating it, but he's in the middle of a game.
Brady
Yeah, they've been doing that more recently where they'll have like a player miked up in the field and they'll have the booth ask the guy questions while he's waiting for. And they can go, well, when they go, well, they're really interesting. But there's too many factors that can lead to it going fully south. One being the amount of chains that players wear. If you're moving around a lot and you're miked up, it's like. Is all you hear in the microphone. You hear no actual words. There's been times where, Brady, maybe you have a memory for this. There have been times where, like, the person mic'd up, the ball is hit to them or something needs them and they make a mistake and they're mic'd up and it's just like, that's that awkward moment where you're like, so we're gonna talk about that, or like, we're gonna let you go. I always felt they did it a couple times on Apple where they were like, you can talk. You're. You're on with Mike Yastremski. And I just would. Anytime they were like, katie, it's your turn to ask a question. I would go, hi, Mike. Sorry, real quick because I just feel like you're already doing your job. Your job is to play baseball now to also have to talk to me. I don't know, get back to your job. It stresses me out.
Metta World Peace
Ball players also don't. They don't have a. There's nothing in them to stop them from shouting an expletive as soon as a ball is hit over their head.
Brady
Right.
Metta World Peace
That just happens with regularity.
Brady
Right.
Metta World Peace
Like. Like that's just a part of the crack of the bat. Yeah, Every time. Every time. Yet they think it's a good idea.
Chris
The only time I think it worked really well in the early days of the T20 competition in Australia. So this is 20 over cricket, when, of course, the Big Bash. The Big Bash started, right, which we all probably about 10 years ago, back when the dinosaurs. 10 years ago, exactly. They were micing up Shane Warne, Australian cricket great Shane Warne. And it was fascinating because it was like a new league and because it was like the novelty of this new thing and there wasn't the, the pressure to win or, you know, to win each of these games. It was all about bringing in new fans. It was all about experiencing cricket in this new and fun way. They mic'd up Shane Warne, who's one of Australia's greatest bowlers of all time, and hearing him explain, you know, what, what, what bowl, what pitch he was going to throw at what time, and how he wanted to set up the field based on what he was about to bowl. And it was incredibly fascinating. So it had. There wasn't as much pressure on making sure that he was paying attention to every little thing. He could still talk to everyone. He could still talk to the broadcasters, things like that, because this was a new, fun event. But you got such an insight into his mind as. As a cricketer. And it was fascinating. And I've always loved.
Brady
This is kind of. That's kind of similar to the All Star Game a couple years ago. I don't know if they still do this, but they had the pitcher and the catcher mic'd up and the booth would talk to them, and so they could be like, what are you gonna throw here? Cause it's an All Star game, it doesn't matter as much. And I found that fascinating. I don't think we'll ever reach a point where you can have that in, like, a actual game because, you know, it would just give away too much. But I think. Yeah, I'm. I'm with you. It can be really fascinating when they give you some sort of an insight into what's going on. I just feel bad because it's like they're very busy. They are very busy doing something else.
Isabella
I'm against the whole interview during a game.
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
I think they're so ridiculous.
Chris
Even a quarter time and halftime. I don't like it.
Unnamed Speaker
No. Yeah.
Isabella
And like, that's when it first started. That opinion started for me was like, watching basketball. And it's like they. It's not like they can say anything more than, like, a superficial statement.
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
So it's like, what's the point? They usually just say, oh, we just got to try hard and keep going and, you know, really work up our offense. And it's like, okay, great. That's what you're supposed.
Brady
I like it because I. Sometimes you can tell when they're frustrated if they're, like, losing and they get asked a question, just the way they treat the person asking the question. I go like, oh, I see you.
Isabella
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brady
I see what you're doing. And I like revealing things about people's character.
Isabella
Focus.
Brady
Yeah, I get that. I get that. I don't know. I kind of like it in some ways. I dislike it. What I really. What I really. What. What I really hate is when the media asks a typical media question where they take so long to get their fucking. Where they go. And I was Thinking. I took a look back at your dad and. And they're just talking. You're like, God, they just need to hear the question so they can give you an answer. The delay, but, you know, put it on the list of things I complain about. Okay. While we're on baseball, Brady, we should talk about the Orioles and the Red Sox, because the Orioles. I said something mean about them to Brady on Saturday, and then they won a bunch. The Orioles have pulled off their first. First three game winning streak of the season, two of which were at the end of the day Saturday.
Metta World Peace
Zach Eflin gave up a home run in the first inning. And you were like, zac Eflin should pitch home.
Brady
Oh, no, it was after the second home run. I think I texted you that. I said he should pitch for the Home Run Derby.
Metta World Peace
You know how many home runs they hit after that? Boom. None. Yeah, well, no home runs after that.
Brady
I still think he should pitch.
Metta World Peace
Orioles have not lost a game since. You talk shit about Zach Eflin.
Brady
Yeah. And where are they in the standings?
Metta World Peace
Three games better than they were on Saturday.
Brady
And where. And where is it, though, on the list of their.
Metta World Peace
It's. It's. So if you. If you're in Fenway.
Brady
Yeah.
Metta World Peace
Look at the standings in left field. It's. It's the. The name closest to the ground.
Brady
Yeah. So it's the bottom. So they're in the bottom of this. Right. So they're in last place. Yes. In the AL East.
Metta World Peace
But we talk about celebrating minor victories.
Brady
We do talk about that.
Metta World Peace
And that's three straight for the Orioles, which is a good thing. Three straight wins since you talk about Zach Eflin. Three straight wins since Melanie Newman got hit with a foul ball, went to the hospital for a concussion. And the O's have not lost since Melanie.
Brady
Sideline reporter out. Melanie Newman. Ouch. Rob. Ref Snider from the Red Sox gave her a bottle of wine, apologizing. He said the. The. It had, like, a inscription on it. He wrote on it and said, like, I was aiming for you, but I can't believe I hit you. Which I thought was pretty funny.
Metta World Peace
That one little trigger turn the season around.
Brady
Yeah, I thought that was pretty funny. But she doesn't drink. I don't think so. She was like, thanks. I guess I'll just have this. We got to talk about what the replacement is for a bottle of wine. In all the situations where you give a bottle of wine because people are drinking less and less. And I feel like when I show up to someone's house, for something like, oh, a housewarming party. The typical stereotypical. You grab a bottle of wine. Now I'm like, what's the thing you grab if they don't drink?
Isabella
Money.
Brady
Just grab money. That's a. That's a robbery. That's a bank robbery.
Chris
He's a 20.
Brady
Yeah, that's the other thing. Money.
Isabella
Show up and give me money.
Metta World Peace
Please hand them an envelope full of cash. Like, they just ran for 200 yards against Michigan.
Brady
What is the. What is the 20 bucks of now? A hundred. Because you used to be able to give somebody a 20 in something. And that was like, hey, thanks. And now it's like, what is this? This isn't even a full tank of gas. There was something else about the Orioles that I thought we were going to say, but now I can't remember what it was. Ain't that the. Oh, it was about the Red Sox and, And. And Roman Anthony and Marcelo Meyer. The Red Sox called up a prospect, one of their top rated prospects on. They had a doubleheader. I'm getting my days mixed up, but I want to say it was Saturday. And during the day game, they were like, marcel Meyer is leaving the Woo Socks facility. Can't find his keys, which has to be the most stressful. Which. To find yourself unable to locate your keys where you're being called up to the majors. You have to go, they have a game that night. They're in the middle of a game right now, and you're like, where the. Did I put my keys? Everybody's waiting for me. Um, but anyway, he gets called up and then now the conversation is about Roman Anthony. The number one ranked prospect, is also with the Red Sox and has not been called up. And it's just a longer conversation about something called service time, which is basically the team manipulating, wanting to get the most out of their prospect and not wanting to have to pay them any sooner or any more than they are forced to. And the problem with Roman Anthony is if they call him up now and he places either first or second in rookie of the year voting, which means he has a great season, which is what you as a fan are supposed to be rooting for, he'll lose a year of service time. And I'm just sick of having to care about that. I want to. Is it crazy as a baseball fan to be like, we have the guy that's good at the baseball. Can we bring the good baseball guy up to the team now? Because that's where I'm at.
Metta World Peace
Yeah, it's really hard to project like you're talking about, is somebody going to be with the team in six years or in seven years?
Brady
Right.
Metta World Peace
You're making me like, making me project that a 22 year old kid is still going to be as good when he's 28. That's so many.
Brady
I get it. I'm just sick of fans going like, you don't understand. It's like, no, you're right. I don't work in the front office and neither do you. None of this money's your money. And they're not going to give you a little gold star for looking out for the best interests of the. Of the money. Of the. Just give me my good baseball player. Also, I don't know if you saw Brady, but Alex Bregman, our third baseman, the third baseman that took the place of our third baseman is now out for a bunch of time with an injury.
Metta World Peace
Yeah. Which was. And so to replace him, instead of just shifting Raphael Devers back to third, they called up Marcelo Meyer to play third.
Brady
It's just, you know, I don't. Who could have seen it going this way? Who could have possibly predicted the mess that this would be? Hockey, right? We should probably talk about hockey a little bit. The Hurricanes avoided a sweep by the Panthers, thank goodness, sending the series back to Raleigh, North Carolina. Shout out Chris for game five on Wednesday night. In the process, Carolina snapped a 15 game losing streak in the conference finals. They had been swept the last three times that they went to the conference finals. This they were almost swept again, but they won. That's the longest losing streak by a team in a playoff round other than the Stanley cup final in NHL history. Are we watching the hockey, folks?
Chris
I haven't watched any since the end of last week because I was in Cape Cod all weekend enjoying some much needed time away. But I'm gonna be back on it tonight and then tomorrow night. Tomorrow night, 8pm gonna watch the game on TNT. Or maybe I just drive over to Raleigh quick. Hour and a half. Hour and 20 minutes, maybe check out a game.
Brady
Are the tickets expensive?
Chris
When I looked for game one, I think it was about 130, so isn't that how much you pay during the regular season?
Brady
Pretty much, yeah.
Chris
Yeah.
Metta World Peace
So also work for a credentialed media.
Chris
Platform, so that is true. But my parents are only here for a few more days before they return to Australia, so maybe, maybe I take them to.
Brady
Oh, they're still here. I love that they're still there. Are they there for your. For your son's birthday? So that why they're there?
Chris
Yep. Yeah, we had his party yesterday, so.
Brady
Happy birthday. Happy birthday.
Chris
Thank you. Happy birthday, John Michael.
Brady
I know he's a big Canes fan, so I'll be rooting for them.
Chris
Huge Cane fan.
Brady
On his behalf. The Hurricanes had their first lead of the entire series, Game four, period two. That's pretty stressful in my opinion. But you know, they could do it. It could happen. They could stave this up. The Panthers just look untouchable. The Panthers look untouchable. And if I may air a grievance, Florida Panthers fans down a goal in the third period of what could have been not an elimination game for them. They weren't in risk of being eliminated, but they could have been moving on to the next round. Down a goal, third period. Doing the Wave.
Chris
That's cocky.
Brady
Doing the Wave. Grow up. Watch the game. What are you doing? This is my. I can't stand you people. It's just like a. It's just like a. It's a high intensity environment. What are we doing? And yeah, maybe it was like six. I don't know how many people it was. But it doesn't look good for your fan base and you should really have it. You should have a meeting about that. Guys come together about that. Tell your fans to cut it out.
Chris
I feel like, yeah, the Wave should only be something that's used in baseball and cricket.
Metta World Peace
Nope. No. The Wave is ass at all times.
Brady
Look, I don't like. I don't love the Wave either. The wave in baseball. I feel like it's an outdoor stadium most of the time. You see it move all the way around the stadium and it's kids. There's a lot of kids. A day baseball game. A game where there's like not a lot going on. If it's a blowout or whatever, it's just a fun. We're all in a crowd. We can try this thing, whatever. It doesn't piss me off as much as it used to. But if you're down in a playoff.
Chris
Game, you're losing, you're doing the playoff type activity.
Brady
No, absolutely not. And that's why I don't think the Florida Panthers should be allowed to win the Stanley cup again. That's why I'd like to see game five tonight on TNT at 8pm Eastern tomorrow night. That's what I said. What did you think? I said tonight. That's crazy. I said tomorrow night. Let the record reflect. Watching everybody love Marshand. On the one hand I'm like, yeah, no. And on the other Hand. I'm like, you gave me so much for loving him for so long. Also, somebody in my comments tried to compare the Juan Soto situation, Yankees fans being mad at him for going to the Mets, to me being upset about Brad Marchand going to the Panthers. The. That guy on. That's insane. That's an insane.
Isabella
Wasn't Brad Marchant on the Bruins longer.
Brady
For like a million years. He was our captain. Juan Soto was on the Yankees for a year.
Isabella
Juan Soto's good, by the way. I was like, yeah, this guy's good.
Brady
Like, oh, I see that.
Metta World Peace
Two for four that game. Ohtani went over four. Debate settled.
Brady
I love Isabella basing all of her baseball opinions off of one live baseball game. I don't see why there'd be a problem with that. I think we should all do that. You go, I saw him, actually, and he stinks. That Juan Soto's pretty good, but, yeah, he's fine.
Metta World Peace
My daughter with Austin Hayes.
Brady
Speaking of tonight at 8. I wasn't. I said tomorrow, but tonight at 8, of course, is Stars Oilers. That's game what, 4. The Oilers are up 2, 1. That's the better series if you're gonna watch the hockey. I think that's. And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe everything changes now, but so far that's been the. The better series. I haven't been thrilled with the. Either of the conference finals, if I'm honest. The margins of victory have been large in a way that's. I, you know, I prefer a closer game. So it's been. It's been hockey, you know, Hockey has been happening, and it will continue to happen. Like I said, tonight at 8, tomorrow at 8. We'll see you there. Right, Everybody. Everybody watching hockey.
Chris
We'll be there.
Isabella
Yep.
Brady
Speaking of hockey, Listen to casuals. Chug. Chug. Chug. Chug. Chug. Chug. Speaking of hockey, the Minnesota Frost won the PWHL finals over Ottawa. And if you're thinking that sounds familiar, that's because, yes, they also did last year. This is their second straight Walter cup title. They won in overtime 2 to 1 over the Ottawa charge in Game 4. So shout out to them. This is the second season of the PWHL, so so far, Minnesota is the only team that's ever won the pwhl, which I think is great because Minnesota deserves a really good hockey team that's dominant to get behind. You know, the Wild have been trying, but this feels more Minnesota to me. The. More like. Yeah, it's. It was. They just keep doing it and doing it. Well, they Got to hoist the cup in front of the home crowd. This time last year, their, their, their victory came on the road. I couldn't possibly remember where. I couldn't remember what city it was that they lifted the cup in. It was Boston. Yeah. Okay, so the pwhl, that season's over. Good, good job. Second season. And then also in hockey, the Ia iihf, it's very hard to say. Two eyes back. My main note on this I hf, I'm checking out the IHF that's been going for a couple, what, weeks. Team USA won and they honor Johnny Goudreau, who is the hockey player who died with his brother tragically right before this season started that we've been talking about throughout the podcast. For the first time since 1933, Team USA has won the I Men's World Championship. They pulled out a 1 nothing overtime goal over Switzerland. Switzerland or 19 overtime. 1 nothing overtime victory. Whatever words I'm saying them and they had, they brought out Johnny Goudreau's jersey. He is Team USA's all time leading scorer in the tournament. If you watched any IHF action, you would have seen that the refs had on those crazy helmets that have cameras in them. And while we're all here taking sides, I think I'm against. I don't think, I don't like the way the helmets look. I find them to be very off putting and, and the angles that they get. I don't know what's up with camera tech, but I feel like we started wearing cameras like 10, 15 years ago pretty regularly. GoPros became a thing. I don't feel they've improved much in, over the time that they've been here. I'm not going like, whoa, that's a wearable camera. That's so such good quality footage. When they do it with an ump at a baseball game or they do it with a ref at the. I'm like, I don't want this. I don't know. Am I alone in that? It doesn't feel like. I think they think it's gonna feel.
Chris
I like it in, in baseball games. I think when the, when the ump's wearing it at a baseball game and you can actually get that fantastic view.
Brady
Of the pitch, but it's so blurry.
Chris
Towards you and see how fast it is.
Brady
So blurry.
Chris
Yeah, I guess, but it's. I just like being able to see how fast the pitch is from the perspective of someone who's right behind home plate. All the other sports where it gets to sort of herky jerky with more movement. Like the more that the, the referee or the umpire moves around, then it's obviously very tough to watch and you can get motion sickness from it. I feel like.
Brady
Yeah, but in baseball, better tech, I don't know.
Metta World Peace
We, we have the ads for Chris Hemsworth. Does the camera in the Ray Bans? Yeah, like, why can't we, can we get umps. Umpire. Umpire, Ray Bans.
Brady
Like, what's Chris Hemsworth doing a commercial for? What are all these top a list actors doing commercials for that?
Chris
Funny you mentioned that, because whenever my parents come over to visit, they always, where's Hemsworth? No, they're just blown away by how many celebrities are in ads. Because in Australia you don't really see any celebrities in ads. And then you come over here and everyone has sold out.
Brady
Well, and they used to, they used to be embarrassed and would go to other countries and do endorsements and then they wouldn't air over here and so it wouldn't really affect them. Now I'm seeing it like, we've already done this. But seeing them in commercials for like apps and you're like, what the Monopoly? Go, Kiki Palmer. You're more famous than this. I don't know. Upsets me. It upsets me and it's bizarre.
Metta World Peace
Get that dollar, Hemsworth. Get that dollar.
Brady
Brady, do you want to be the new spokesperson for solitaire?
Metta World Peace
Sure.
Brady
Great.
Metta World Peace
Wait, what about me says that that's beneath me?
Brady
No, it's not beneath you. I just feel like that's who should be getting them. People who are like commercial actors should get commercial acting work. I don't know. I'm in a bad mood. I'm in a bad mood today. Has it shown? Has it shined through? Listen. The Liberty beat the Fever by two. Caitlyn Clark is out for two weeks with a quad injury. And I. The way that everybody is reacting to a two week injury is shocking to me. Am I alone in this? I saw a tweet from Christine Brennan, who's a reporter that is, I believe, writing a Caitlyn Clark book. But she also ostensibly covers the league. And she tweeted when Caitlin Clark was injured, she tweeted, breaking, Caitlin Clark will miss her first regular season game since November 28, 2017, or sophomore year of high school. And then she, quote, tweeted herself and said, this is such unfortunate news for Caitlin Clark, of course, and the fever. It's also terrible news for the wnba, which relies on Clark for so much attendance, viewership, social Media merchandise in a way no sports league ever has before. I've asked the WNBA for comment. Am I on a line? I don't know, am I not watching enough WNBA to. That's in. That sounds like she's out for two weeks. Merchandise. You think it's gonna affect the merchandise sales?
Metta World Peace
I get the attendance thing because. So it's Tuesday tomorrow night. The fever are in D.C. but they're not in D.C. like, I was this close to buying tickets for my kids, and now I'm glad I didn't. They're in Baltimore. They moved the game to a larger arena in Baltimore because of the demand for Fever tickets. So now, like, that game is packed. I just pulled up the app and there's 379 different listings for people unloading their tickets. So, like, they have made accommodations to put Caitlin Clark's games in larger venues. I think the Aces or maybe the sky have had some games move too for road teams. So there's like a tangible effect. And if I, if I were taking my. I'd be bummed. But it's also like, this is the risk when you're buying tickets to a sport to see one player. It happens. Like, it's not. It's not a disaster. It's built into the sport.
Brady
Yeah. It also feels to me like. It also feels like a moment to. I don't know if you already have tickets. If you can't offload them. If you. It's still a game, you're still getting a game. You go, you could find another player that you like. You could, you know, a lot could happen. It's you like Caitlin Clark. But Caitlin Clark herself will tell you it's not just her out there. There's multiple other. So just like still go. It's still a good game. And I sure, I guess of that. That tweet, that's the thing that would make the most like, yeah, okay, maybe people won't be going to a couple games because they wanted to see Caitlin Clark and Caitlin Clark's not going to be there. I don't think the WNBA is going to have a league wide issue and have to shut down because for two weeks Caitlin Clark hurt her leg. That feels a little reactionary to me. There's a lot of other storylines within the league that maybe could use this two weeks to take off and people could start caring about that. I don't know. That just seemed like a wild tweet to me. I don't know.
Metta World Peace
Can I give you a W storyline? You're hyped.
Brady
About yes.
Metta World Peace
Tonight at 7:00.
Brady
Yeah.
Metta World Peace
The New York Liberty, the 30 New York Liberty are hosting the upstart 2 in 1 Golden State Valkyries.
Brady
I should probably be there. I should probably toss on my, my Valkyrie shirt and head over to the Garden. I mean to the Valhalla looks to.
Metta World Peace
Take down the reigning champs to the Barclays.
Brady
Is that where they are? Barclays place? Yeah, yeah, that's. I should probably do that. It's just so far away. I just don't go to stuff. But I'll watch it. The Valkyries are going to do it to Valhalla. Dude. We're. We're going to Baala with our sword. You just wait. Everybody's sleeping on the Valkyries but not me. I played God of War, both of them.
Metta World Peace
So the Liberty, the whole roster is just all burned out because they've all done Sue's podcast in the last.
Brady
Exactly.
Metta World Peace
They're just, they're just exhausting.
Brady
Exactly. They've been talking so much they got dry mouth. They're underestimating their hydration. That's going to come back to bite them. If I know anything about sports then before we get to Metta World Peace, I feel like we were going to do oh, Liverpool. We should talk about Liverpool. Once again, there's too many sports to talk about in our tiny little podcast. But Liverpool did win the Premier League and I feel legally obligated to say that Manchester United finished 15th and blew their one chance at a Champions League birth by losing the Europa League final to Spurs. United is now in serious financial trouble. You hate to see that. And another fun and interesting story. I know we've talked a little bit about promotion and relegation in international soccer leagues here. Sunderland got promoted. They are back in the Premier league. They won 21 in the championship final against Sheffield United at Wembley in one of the most exciting comebacks in recent history. Over the weekend, Tom Watson scored a last minute winning goal that propelled Sunderland back to the Premier League. That's their first time back since 2017. They were down. They had conceded the first goal of the game in the 25th minute before they made the comeback in the second half. Mayenda scored the equalizer in the 76 minute. And then 19 year old striker Tom Watson, who's leaving the club this summer but who came up through the team's. What's it called? Their Academy. Academy scored the winning goal in the 95th minute. Um, but he's going to Brighton and Hove Albion so goodbye to him. Um, the playoff championship final is widely Considered as the richest game in the world, considering Sunderland will Now receive around $300 million to play the 2526 edition of the Premier League. So congratulations to them. I always love when a team wins the ability to, like, do something great on a. In an exciting way, like with a young guy, and it was like a. They were losing. So that's just an exciting. You know, you hate when the season just ends and it's like, well, you had the best and so you get to go and it's not as exciting. This was very exciting.
Metta World Peace
Yeah. It's like Liverpool, Clint. Like Liverpool had the top of the table cinched up so long ago. Like, that's where the real drama is on the promotion and relegation. Just who. Who gets to play in the big leagues next year.
Chris
You don't have those moments in the EPL as regularly, like when Leicester City made that run. What was that? 2016, I think, came out of nowhere, but they ended up winning the title when they were watching another team play because they were waiting on a result for. I can't remember what team it was, but they needed someone else to lose before they clinched the title. And so their moment of jubilation, right, of joy came when they were all standing together watching tv. And it just doesn't have that same, you know, magical moment as any sport that incorporates a championship game or playoffs or things like that have. So I understand, like, I like it in the sense that you're always guaranteeing that the best team in any given season wins the title. But sports, to me, is all about moments, right? All about magic moments that you can look back on and say, remember this moment when Leicester City won or remember this moment when. That's why, you know, for Sunderland fans, that goal in the 95th minute will live in infamy in. Will live on, you know, for, you know, forever, for that club and for fans of that club who watch that moment. But Leicester City didn't have that moment. This is a very, very old reference. You can tell. I probably don't watch a whole lot of ep.
Brady
No, it's fair. It's casual. If you're a casual fan, I remember that too. Yeah, I'm with you.
Metta World Peace
Break your heart when I tell you Lester City got relegated again then and Jamie Bod's gone.
Brady
Oh, but Mosala won player of the season. All right. We don't have time to talk about Jennifer Lopez and the American Music Awards, unfortunately.
Metta World Peace
It was weird, though.
Brady
It was a flop. It was a. I don't know if JLo herself was a flop. But the I heard the award show was a nobody showed up, which is always tough. But you know who did show up was Meta World Peace for us. He came by to talk about the conference finals and the finals and just what he thinks about the state of the NBA. Metta World Peace formerly known as Ron Artest.
Isabella
Oh wait, is that the guy that you talked about in that. That one? Yeah, we don't.
Brady
Yep, yep, yep. We don't talk about that. Okay, we don't talk about that. But he was drafted by the Bulls in 99. He played for the Pacers from 2002 to 2006. He had his an all star year there. He was defensive player of the year in 2004. He played about half a season with The Knicks in 2013, 2014. He's played with the Lakers, the Rockets. He's played a lot of places. But now he's playing here on Casuals right after the break. We talked to him about the NBA conference finals. Our state has changed a lot in the last 140 years. Unnamed Speaker
Yeah, thanks for having me. It's good to be here.
Brady
It's good to have you. Good to have you. I know it's been a really exciting postseason. You are obviously Queensborn and played for the Knicks, I believe. Was it one season?
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah, I played for the Knicks for. Actually it was like a little more than half a season.
Brady
Right. And more time with the Pacers, obviously. That was when you got your defensive player of the year 2002 to 2006. So in this Knicks 6 Pacers series, where do your loyalties lie?
Unnamed Speaker
Well, you know, I'm from New York, right. I grew up. My first game I ever saw was Detroit versus the Bulls. And that was in 1990. It's the first NBA game I ever saw. Michael Jordan is like our version of Stephen Curry and LeBron. Right. So I actually grew up a Bulls fan, but I never wanted to see them beat the Knicks. I always wanted the Knicks to win. I didn't quite grow up a Pacer fan. I actually played against the Pacers with my friend on video games like every day for like five years. Live 99.
Brady
Unlike NBA Jam.
Unnamed Speaker
No, this was Live 99.
Brady
Oh, got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course, you know.
Unnamed Speaker
And then there's about three people from Queens, my neighborhood, Queensbridge, that played for the Paces. Vern Fleming, Sean Green, and then also some St. Johnny's and then I, I have my history with the Paces, so I'm a Pacers guy. Definite, you know, but when they play, the Knicks is always hard. It's always hard for me because I'm from New York. I really love the Knicks, but the Pacers is. I have a long history with the Pacers and you know, we really love the Paces.
Brady
What have you been seeing it? We're going into game four tonight. Is it eight o' clock? The Pacers are up 2:1 in the series. It's been certainly an interesting one. What have, what have you been seeing? What's catching your eye in this series?
Unnamed Speaker
It's been intense. I feel like finally the league, the league is back. I mean, it hasn't Gone anywhere. But for the most part, like a fan that grew up in the 90s, 2000s, you know, I think this is the type of basketball we want to see and it's proven that this type of basketball is what everybody wants to see. So I'm really thankful that we got a chance to see it. I didn't think we was going to get a chance to see such physicality but. And you, you can still see the score is still high. They had 128 last night, 140 the other night. And it doesn't really have to compromise the physicality. And I think with this, the paces remind me of an old Detroit Pistons team. It reminds me of that underdog team that is just running through a lot of the best and this Pacer team reminds me of that old Pistons team.
Brady
So when you say this type of basketball you mean like the, like physical. The mid range game is back because I know you've tweeted about this. A 90s style player.
Unnamed Speaker
Yes.
Brady
Yeah.
Unnamed Speaker
Mid range game.
Brady
You hate threes. Are you anti3? As a Celtics fan I, I'm supposed to love them. I know people are anti this, you know, three revolution. You're pro mid range game game.
Unnamed Speaker
I'm just pro game. Yeah, you know, pro choice. Like play your game. You know, I think with the stats, some AI computers telling you to be a 3 and D guys like just play your game. SGA Kawhi Leonard all these guys are proven that you need the mid range game because when it's time to make a crucial decision, I mean you don't necessarily have time to back it out. Two or three or four. If you're playing against the Pacers defense, you're not going to get all the way to the rim. Right. So I'm really happy to see that the game is just coming back. Even, even Halliburton has developed the mid range game, you know, so it's just super exciting to see.
Brady
Yeah. Speaking of Halliburton, his, his dad isn't allowed to come to games. This is now a, a conversation a lot of people are having because he got into. Was it Giannis's face in a previous series. People are saying now they think he should be able to come back. Do you have an opinion on this matter?
Unnamed Speaker
Well, I mean as a player who was in a situation similar to fans come on the floor, like the court is really sacred.
Brady
Yeah, right.
Unnamed Speaker
It's so sacred to the players, you know, and I think sometimes we forget that, you know. And so even though I'm a Pacers fan. I was at that game. So as a Pacer's fan, and then I saw that happen, I was like. Then I became a kind of almost like a protector of like, Yanis. Right. Like, you know, you have to understand that I know we're excited and especially you have an Olympian son, you know, just hitting game winners after game winners. But you got to understand that the. The floor is for the players and nothing is more important than that. I don't think he did anything that bad to keep him out for the full, you know, playoffs. So hopefully we'll see. Hopefully he gets a chance to come back.
Brady
Yeah, I agree. I. When it happened, I remember being shocked. I agree with you. The sanctity of the court. The, like, you can't let get too caught up in what's going on. But now, as time is. Yeah, I feel like he learned. He's been nothing but apologetic for it. I feel like maybe, you know, whoever the powers that be could look into maybe letting him see his son, especially if they make it to the finals. I feel like that should be probably allowed.
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah, it's looking like. It's looking like they have a shot.
Brady
Yeah. Is that what you think? If I had to make you pick in this series, who are you going with?
Unnamed Speaker
I mean, I'm a Pacers guy. You know, the Nick organization treats me well. You know, these answers when it comes to the pace of the Knicks is always going to be long winded.
Brady
Yeah, true.
Unnamed Speaker
And I'm such a fan of the Knicks. You know, I grew up under Starks and Oakley and, you know, all those guys. Right. So it's really hard for me. But. But you know, the Pacers are, you know, kind of running in and through my. My veins and everywhere.
Brady
Yeah. Okay, so it sounds like Pacers, but also with respect and love to the Knicks.
Unnamed Speaker
Absolutely.
Brady
All right, let's shift to the other series. We got Minnesota OKC. The Thunder are up 3 1. What are you seeing over there? I know you love you. You've mentioned, you know, SGA and what OKC is doing. So what's the story of that series for you? You.
Unnamed Speaker
You know, I'm g. Have to give SGA some credit, unfortunately, because he potentially could be playing my paces. But you know what, let's just give him a little credit. You know, I think SGA is at times better than Michael Jordan.
Brady
You know, wow.
Unnamed Speaker
At times when you look at SGA's game, he's the best basketball player that probably touched the floor. I'm talking about a ball of every move. You ever dreamed of. You know, Michael Jordan gave us the dream of playing like him. He's done things that nobody's ever done and it looks so elegant. But sga right, the way you play the game, through the legs, behind the back, step back, crossover spin all, it's exactly how you want to play. And now he has the opportunity to be, I would say a top 100. He has the opportunity to make the top hundred after, you know, we just saw 75. You know, he has the opportunity to be. To surpass so many people. He started out, I think, averaging 10, and then his averages quickly went up to 20 and he's averaged 30 this year. The best team in the league, you know, so I think he has an opportunity to be better than a lot of players that's in front of him right now.
Brady
What do you think the Timberwolves have to do if they want to come back in this series?
Unnamed Speaker
You know, I mean, you're playing against a team that won 68 games, so I mean, it's easier said than done, but they're going to probably have to attack more. You're probably. When you're playing against a really good team, you got to just move beyond the fact that this team is good, this player is good. You got to make sure that you're the best, that you're playing the best team. Meaning. I remember we played against the Lakers and we knew he was playing against Kobe. I was with the Rockets and I still, I told the team, you know, let Kobe be the best player in the world. We just got to be the best team, you know, and sometimes you can't focus on how good your opponent is because they're good. You got to focus on yourself.
Brady
It's good advice. It's not bad advice. But speaking of teammates, who do you.
Isabella
You.
Brady
Who would you say is your. Is your favorite teammate? You've had, you've played for a lot of teams, you've had a lot of big name teammates. I don't even mean who's the best at basketball. I just mean the person you played with that you're like, that's my guy. That was my teammate. He had my back.
Unnamed Speaker
I'll probably say like Jermaine o' Neal, probably.
Brady
If I had to pick one, which you have to. I'm forcing you. Otherwise he would love to list a lot, but I'm forcing him to pick one.
Isabella
One.
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah. If I still, if I had to, you know, I probably say Jermaine, definitely. And even though I could also argue Stephen Jackson, I think Jermaine was a guy who hopefully his jersey gets hung up in the pace's facility because I think he deserves it. He also was like a leader at a young age. He was only like a couple months older than us, but a big time leader even now, still a leader when you, when you in the presence. And then I also played with people like Ying, obviously Kobe and Derek Fisher, Shane Batty, these people come to mind, you know, but yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, is also very, very special in terms of how he leads. But one person, I'll picture me.
Brady
Okay, good. I was gonna say good list, but one person. Jermaine. And then last question. I'm just kind of curious to know when it comes to the finals, obviously, you know, we always say this is the postseason, it's different. The energy is different. For the players, it's different. What, what, how are players right now? Because you've been there, you've been in this situation. How are they managing their day to day to keep themselves from being overwhelmed by the pressure of it all when they're getting, we're now in the conference finals, getting closer to the finals. What is different for like a day to day routine for a player in the NBA in this situation?
Unnamed Speaker
You know, nothing, nothing can change.
Brady
Nothing.
Unnamed Speaker
Not one thing. When you're playing at this level, it has to feel so normal. You have to be numb to any new challenges, any new entrances into your world, any new excitement. You got to be really numb at this point. It has to be very, very normal.
Brady
Just so you can stay focused and not ride the wave of it all.
Unnamed Speaker
Yeah, you don't want to ride the wave. The wave. There's too many ups and downs, your body's breaking down, you're tired. You know, so many signals trying to tell you to quit.
Brady
I know, that's what I'm. That's the part I can't relate to. I mean, obviously the basketball of it, I can't relate to either. I'm not talented at that, but I just can't imagine having to. I mean, are they tuning out the media fully at this point, you think?
Unnamed Speaker
Fully?
Brady
Yeah, 100%.
Unnamed Speaker
As long as it's normal, natural. Right. Having fun. If you naturally have fun with media, well, that probably won't change. Yeah, you know, the big changes is where now you're not talking or now you, you know, you're doing things differently. That's where you would be concerned. But you know, with things that high level of that state, you know, you still want to be normal, but you have to be that Much more focused. You know, it's kind of a. It's kind of a situation where, yeah, you have to tune certain things out, but. But not everything. Not things that you. That you normally, you know, your normal routine for eating, your normal routine for sleeping, your normal lunchtime, your normal, you know, family time, you know, your normal, you know, kind of locker room activity time.
Brady
Right.
Unnamed Speaker
You got to keep everything the same.
Brady
Yeah, that makes sense because the routine of it all helps you stick to the. That makes perfect sense. I expected it to be different, but I'm. I'm fascinated that that's what it is. Meta, thank you so much for. For doing this, for stopping by and for giving us your picks. You. I'm assuming your pick for that other one was O. See, right. That's the team you imagine is moving into the finals.
Unnamed Speaker
Well, I'm. I'm a Julius Randle fan, so I'm never. I'm never going to count Julius out, so I can't just quite say okc, you know, at this point in time.
Brady
Okay, fair. We'll leave the door open. I'm rooting for Minnesota, so I'll take that.
Unnamed Speaker
Y. Absolutely. Julius Randall is incredible. And. But yeah, I'm. It's exciting to see these players. I'm so proud of them, you know, in terms of the pressure that they had from us veterans, putting pressure on them in terms of working on their game, working on their body. It was a point in time where the bodies wasn't in shape. It was a point in time where people were thin, and now you see the bodies are in shape, the game has improved. So I just want to. I'm really proud of these players for taking. For really taking the crown and moving it forward.
Brady
Amazing. Metta World Peace, thank you so much for stopping by.
Unnamed Speaker
Thank you.
Brady
Big thanks to Meta World Peace for. For swinging by digitally, maybe. Probably could have mentioned I had the Larry o' Brien trophy next to me for that entire interview. Look, I've talked, like, public about that trophy, just its name, you know, Larry o' Brien. It's not like Lord Stanley's cup. It's a funny name. He was postmaster General and commissioner, but it was. He was here. He showed up, up. And I. I appreciated that. Chris. It's Tuesday, so we've got to give these people something to watch if they want to watch sports. What do we got?
Chris
First thing, college baseball tournament. The field has been set on Friday. We get yet another opportunity, just like last week, to pop some nooners, because we got action starting from noon on Friday with Holy cross at number five, North Carolina. You can watch that game at 12pm Eastern on ACC Network and then you've just got a whole host of baseball watch for the rest of the day. I'm going to give you a quick rundown of of what your day could look like based on how easy it might be to watch these games. So you've got that Holy Cross first North Carolina game at 12. Then you've got Miami versus Alabama Friday at 3pm Eastern on ESPN2. Then you have Wright State versus number one overall Vanderbilt. That's at Friday at 6pm Eastern on SEC Network. And then you can finish your day with Arizona State versus UC Irvine Irvine on Friday at 9pm Eastern on ESPNU. So the ESPN network have pretty much all these games. If you have ESPN plus you can watch any of these games. But I just tried to point out some of the the ones that I'll be keeping my eye on. Those are good throughout a big Friday of baseball.
Brady
I know what I'm doing Friday.
Metta World Peace
Friend of the podcast compadre Danny Wexelman on the call for all of the UCLA games.
Brady
No way. Really?
Metta World Peace
Yeah, she's in all of the games out of Los Angeles. Danny is on the play by play.
Brady
Hell yeah. Oh, that's exciting. I'll be happy to hear Danny's voice. Voice. What else?
Chris
Chris, it's time.
Brady
What?
Chris
It's time for us to mention the dots. The PDC playoffs are on this Thursday, May 29th. That starts at 2pm Eastern. You can watch that on FanDuel TV Extra on Tubi. Sure, it's free. Just download the Tubi app. Search for FanDuel TV Extra. Yeah, at 2pm you can find it. Luke Litla. What a phenomenal season by our guy, Luke the Nuke. He stormed to a record extending sixth nightly victory of the 2025 Premier League season on Thursday. So the semi finals, the way it works in the Premier League, they, you know, get a certain amount of points based on how they perform each week. Then the top four from the season play in these playoffs. So we've got the semi finals starting at 2pm this is the best of 19 sets, essentially. Usually it's best of 11 in the regular season, but this is sort of the best of 19. Luke Litlow will be facing off against Gerwin Price in the semifinals. And then Luke Humphries will be facing off against Nathan Aspinall in the other semifinals. And then after those semi finals take place, then the winner of both of those semi finals play in the final, which is best of 21 legs.
Brady
Jeez Louise.
Chris
That would probably be taking place at around about. I don't know how long these will take, but around about maybe 4:35 o' clock on Thursday, something like that. So. So watch some. Watch some darts. Let's go. Luke the nuke darts.
Brady
Go, Luke the nuke darts on Thursday. One more thing to watch if we want to watch sports. Chris, please. Is it's crazy you.
Chris
I finally get a chance to chat about the darts. Isabella, you got to let me do it. No.
Brady
And now we go. Now we're going to finish big on an even bigger sport.
Chris
As big as it can possibly get. Hopefully the darts will be over by the time this starts because this, this starts at 8pm Eastern on Thursday night and that is the Scripps Spelling Bee finals. We have the preliminary rounds today. Quarterfinals and the semifinals are tomorrow. Quarters start at 8am the semifinals start at 8pm and then the finals will be on Thursday, May 29th at 8pm it will be on ION. 12 year old Bruhat Soma won the spelling bee last year. He spelt a record breaking 29 words in just 90 seconds.
Brady
I don't know.
Chris
It's pretty incredible. If you haven't seen the footage of him do it. It's. It's very impressive and it's also an incredible story of resilience as well because that was his third time participating in the spelling bee. He tied for 74th in 2023 and tied for 163rd in 2022.
Brady
Wow.
Chris
So he's gone from 163rd to 74th to overall winner. And now he won last year. He can only participate.
Brady
He can't participate.
Chris
Nope. If you win the spelling bee, you are done.
Brady
Let him run it back. You've clocked it.
Chris
There's nowhere else to go. Yep.
Brady
Whoa.
Katie Nolan
I mean, I get the kid's life.
Metta World Peace
Has peaked at 12, but let him at least try to run back for the title.
Chris
It is strange. I did find that only today that you can't go back because I'm like, all right, I want to see, I want to see our guy. I want to see. I want to see him.
Brady
Yeah. I mean, how do we go in with story lines? I'm gonna have to learn about a bunch of other 11 year old olds. I don't know how much room I have for that. All right, well, okay. These are good. Chris, thank you for giving us all these things to watch. Of course, on top of these, you got to watch playoff basketball and playoff hockey. Those are.
Chris
Yeah, we spent a lot of time talking about that. That's a given.
Brady
Right?
Chris
All of those. These are the. The other ones that might have fallen through the crack a little bit.
Brady
Right. So you got to do that. Don't bother watching Dodgers baseball, though, because as Isabella said, sh. Ohtani kind of stinks.
Isabella
Listen, that game he did. But, I mean, I can watch another one.
Brady
Shouldn't even like him. She said it herself.
Metta World Peace
He just started pitching again this weekend like he did.
Isabella
Oh, I wish I could see that.
Metta World Peace
So he was throwing batting practice before the games. He hit 97 on the gun.
Brady
Amazing. In addition to he threw a pitch that was 97 miles per hour.
Isabella
97 on the gun. That's such a funny statement. I'm sorry. I just said, like, you understand from my brain. I'm like, he hit. He threw 97 on the gun. He got a 97.
Brady
And walk us through what your brain pictured.
Isabella
I was Picturing a grade 97 out of 100. Okay, off the gun now. I don't know. My mind could go anywhere, like. Yeah, but you're talking about pitching. Are you talking about hitting?
Metta World Peace
Pitching, Pitching.
Isabella
Okay, so literally the only guy that does both.
Brady
Although when you talk.
Metta World Peace
No, no, no. The gun is the radar.
Brady
Aren't you talking about hitting? Yeah, the gun is, like, where they measure how fast the ball is coming out of your hand. 97 miles per hour was how fast it went.
Isabella
Okay.
Brady
Was it a strike, Brady? I hope they mentioned that. They never. They never mentioned that part. Well, also, we've got our live podcast coming up on Saturday.
Metta World Peace
