Hello! It's the podcast whose new studio sounds exactly like it's old studio, but with lumbar pillows! Today, Katie and the Casualties welcome Isabella back from vacation and discuss baseball in California, Jomboy's cricket tournament in Barbados, Dan manifesting a new kicker in San Francisco, the WNBA playoff field, a sliver of hope for US Men's soccer, Mamdani showing he can ball, Bill Belichick's newest rejected trademarks, maybe boxing (?), Caleb Williams' dubious undershirt choice, and a look ahead to this weekend's NFL action through Isabella's undefeated fantasy lineup. Then, 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Ryan Blaney joins the show [52:25] to discuss this season's playoff race, getting spun out by Kyle Larson, Kyle Petty saying he's too nice and his general drama with Kyles, issues with IKEA, airports, and sweatpants, growing up the son of a NASCAR star and the nepo baby stigma, becoming a first-time dad, his tips for wedding planning, being a shockingly slow driver off th...

Hey, Isabella, did you see. Hi. Hi. Sorry. Okay, wait. I know, but we'll get to it. Okay? Guys, did you see that? The new bachelorette. No. Is the girl from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
C
Oh, I don't. I don't pay attention to Secret Lives of Mormon Wives or anything like that.
A
Damn it.
C
I'm sorry, is it. Is it scandalous?
A
No. Yes. And hey, Isabella, did you see Elon Musk? No longer the richest man in the world. Okay. Boo hoo for him.
D
Okay.
A
Who else is? It's Larry Ellison. He's the Oracle. You know, Oracle guy. Oh, okay. $400 billion.
C
Give me some.
A
I know, yeah.
C
Sorry, I'm a little rusty on this.
A
No, it's okay. I thought these were good. I think we put them both in and then we'll cut right here. Hello. First day in the new studio. I really gotta test the limits. I gotta test the limits, you guys. I've gotta bounce up against the wall so we know where we can go and what we can do. Welcome to Casuals, the sports podcast for people that. That want to have fun. That. That's the most important thing, you know, they just want to know about sports while also having fun. No press. That's us. We're that podcast. I'm Katie Nolan. I'm your host. Coming to you from our brand new studio at SiriusXM. A very exciting day. It's a really big room, so if my energy feels different, I'm trying to fill the space with what I'm bringing to the table today. But luckily, I'm not by myself. I have a little help here in studio with me, we have Isabella. She's back. Hi. And then joining us on Zoom, of course, Brady and Chris are both here.
E
Hello.
A
Great. I love. It's perfect. We're gonna get into a little bit of news. Not a lot, because we got a great guest today. Ryan Blaney is here. Was that 2023 NASCAR champion, and he's currently, like, in the postseason of NASCAR right now, so kind of a huge get. Also good friends with our former favorite NASCAR Bubba Wallace, because now we're all obviously Ryan Blaney fans. But we're gonna get to him in a. In a bit. He just stopped by. Great. Just a great, fun time. And I don't want to waste too much time, but before we get into that, I have to tell you how to reach us. Casuals with Katie nolanmail.com Our voicemail is 646-801-0043. On IG and TikTok. We are at Casuals, the podcast. If this isn't live enough for you and you want a more live version of me, why would you? I don't know, but it's my job to tell you that you can find that from noon to 1:00pm Eastern every single day on MAD Rate. Well, I guess Monday through Friday on Mad Dog sports radio channel 82, noon.
D
To Wednesday, you get less confident of that.
A
I know, I know. It's because I never say the channel on air. I know the number by heart. At this point, you don't need to.
D
Say the channel on air because people are already.
A
Exactly. That's what I'm saying. And I. I know the number by heart. And I also today got not annoyed, but, like, playfully annoyed of, like, did people that listen not know the number? It's like, that's how overstep. Remember moments ago when I didn't remember the number and now I'm like, why don't people know the phone number? It's 888 Maddog 6. And you can call and talk to me live. I do a show called Fan Service that just started last week and today was really fun and a really fun one. Starting to figure it out. That old radio, I think it's the future. Radio is the future. And before we get into any of the actual news, Isabella, we missed you so much.
C
Did you actually.
A
Yes. I can think of a specific instance. Chris. Chris was messaging. Well, we sent the clips around that we do on social media. We sent them to the group chat, and I approved the clip. Got a lot going on. Okay, just in my defense, lot going on. And Isabella responds to the clip and goes, chris, you shaved your head. It had been. I had interacted with Chris face to face on Zoom. I had watched and, like I said, approved the aforementioned clip.
E
I was waiting for someone to mention not even Brady.
A
Brady said nothing, but Brady also had a mustache for like a week before I noticed.
D
No one noticed.
A
You guys are on Zoom. Is it because as soon as. As soon as Isabella pointed it out in her first moment back, like, hey, everybody. Funny clip. Chris, you shaved your head. I was like, am I a monster? I didn't even notice. And I still. I came in today and I said, hey, Chris, what was your hair like before? How is it different? I don't even remember it. I thought you always had a shaved head. It sent me spiraling.
D
So, Isabella, you replaced Chris with Asian Jim Halpert for two episodes.
A
No one noticed he was still Australian. Did you have fun, Isabella? Was it worth it, leaving us?
C
It was. I had a good time. The weather was nice in both cities. In San Francisco is like a. I did la and then San Francisco and la. San Francisco's usually cloudy, but I was there during a sunny weekend.
A
They've named that fog that rolls in. I forget its name.
C
It would be really helpful.
A
It's something like Steve. It's like they have given. I was in it.
C
There was one day. I was in it. We went all the way up to, like, this, like, cliff area to get a good view of the Golden Gate. We did it because by the time we got up there, the fog.
A
The fog already came in. It has a Twitter account.
D
Arlethefog.
A
Carl. Thank you. I've driven over that bridge. I don't want to say probably like six times. I feel like I've seen it fully clearly. No fog one time. I love it. Either way, that bridge is amazing. Driving over and, like, looking up and just seeing, even when there is fog, it's almost scary that you can, like, see it until it disappears and you're just like, ah, this is such a huge, hugely famous bridge. Did you. You didn't, like, drive up from S. From la?
C
No, no. We took a. A flight from LA to.
A
Let's be reasonable. That makes a lot of sense.
C
I wanted to nap, and I didn't have enough time because by the time I got ready to fall asleep, the pilot was like, and we're starting to descent.
A
We've just edged the air, and now we're gonna come right back down. I know.
C
I'm like, we didn't even go that high.
A
Come on. It's like, you didn't even. The beverage card is. Halfway through the.
C
I asked my boyfriend. I was like, do we get a snack last night?
D
Katy Perry space trip.
A
Yeah, exactly.
D
Coming back.
A
You're basically a pilot now. If I've learned anything from Katy Perry. Any sports stuff happen while you're out there? We're gonna get into your fantasy team a little bit at the end of the episode. As our way of previewing next week's football. I know people are. Are chomping at the bit for it. They want to hear from you. But other than your fantasy team, anything sports happened while you were away.
C
Okay. I had learned that there is a San Francisco cricket team called the San Francisco Unicorns.
E
Oh, yeah.
A
Perfect.
C
Okay. And I was like, my.
A
I.
C
So I stayed with my best friend and her boyfriend, and he was like, oh, did you hear about this? And I was like, no. That sounds exciting. So I may become a cricket fan because of the San Francisco Unicorns.
A
Okay. Unicorns eat crickets. I think maybe.
D
Oh, their merch is legit.
A
Oh, let's see it. Oh, I want to see it. Show me. Show me. To me, Rachel. It looks nice. I like it. I'm glad we did this. Are you done yelling?
D
It's a little Denver Broncos adjace, but I. It's clean. It's sharp.
C
Tell them to become a unicorn fan.
A
Okay, I will. I let. Yeah. I wouldn't have expected they could make a unicorn logo look so sharp and sportsy. And I will say they did a good job of it. I really think those colors should be a little sparklier, but I can. I've always got notes. I've never not got notes. Okay, Take it away from me. I don't want to see it anymore. New studio. Get it out.
C
Oh, and I saw a picture of Shohei Ohtani on a bus.
A
Okay, that's. The picture was of Shohei sitting on a bus.
C
The picture was of Shohei doing this.
A
And that's a batting stance, I believe is what she's doing. Getting ready. I forgot.
C
You guys aren't in the studio with me. You're just listening.
A
All right, cool.
C
Oh, and then I walked past a bench that was painted with the San Francisco Giants logo, and we were walking out. We were leaving dinner, and then I saw it, and I was so excited, and everyone kept walking, and I was taking a picture of it, and then my boyfriend was like, we don't support that team. You're a Mets fan. And I was like, yes, I have a team, but I'm also a newer baseball fan. So, like, anytime I see anything baseball related, I'm like, picture.
A
I'm an ancestor.
D
Pence supports you.
A
Yeah. That bench was for Hunter. That's Hunter bench. Yeah. Oh, that's it. Just. Oh, clap. Yeah. Oh, I love this. This is perfect. Good. I'm glad you had fun. Don't ever go on vacation again. It was block your ears, you guys. It was miserable here without You. Aw, we missed you so much.
C
That means so much. Cause in my head I'm like, they're so happy I'm gone.
E
Absolutely not be press of having to do a cold open.
A
Oh yeah, we made too much cold open.
D
He crumbled about VMA fashion. It was not Chris's wheelhouse.
A
It was not crumbled. He went, oh, I like it. And then silence.
E
And I was like, what should I say here?
A
I don't think you. But we figured it out. Well, we missed you. I'm glad you're home and I'm excited to talk about your fantasy football team. There was something else that was Pod related news, Brady, that you wanted to talk about. I'm forgetting now what it was.
D
The cricket mention.
A
Okay.
D
Brings up friend of the pod. It was one of those stories that you didn't ask for too many details of because it didn't seem possible enough to be realistic. The jamboy family, the whole John Boy.
E
Squad team J enies of the Pod, by the way. Not friends of the Pod.
A
Enemies of ne. Nemesis.
D
They can be both. It's kind of like Nemesis. The frenjamins of the pod went down to Barbados to participate in a cricket tournament on the beach of Barbados. Which is just like budget goals. Like that's just dream of a. Of a. I want to submit that proposal of like send us down to Barbados.
A
Okay.
D
But their goal was to win a single game in this tournament on the beach in Barbados. They brought a ringer with them. They brought former major league baseball player Cole Tucker was down there, what do you call him? Chris. Ripping wickets and googlies. Sticky Wickens just smashing balls on the beach, ripping wickets and googies. Make sense to me. Ended up winning two games in Barbados they didn't win.
A
Wow, wow, wow. Whoa, wait a second. What?
D
Yes.
A
They won two games.
D
The jam men won two games in Barbados, did not win the tournament, but picked up two wins and. And Jake one tournament mvp.
A
Shut up.
D
Somehow it was player of the blast. Player of the. I don't know cricket terms. I'm just impressed as hell that these guys.
A
How. What's the age range of these people?
D
These are like young fit people they were playing against in Barbados.
A
What's going on? They just went down there. This is why I think I tried to ask follow up questions. I was confused and I'm only further confused now.
D
Yeah, it's like, hey, the eight of us and Vanessa Hudgens husband are going to go down to Barbados and just play cricket on the beach. And it's Going to be work.
A
Mvp.
D
Good for them. Those guys pick up two wins.
A
Jake, Player of the blast. That's really what it's called.
D
I. Yeah.
A
Player of the blast.
D
I think I wrote MVP in parentheses, like, I don't know what. Player of the blast.
A
Player of the blast.
D
There was a. He was on the beach. They were named. They all took their shirts off and ran in the water.
A
It's a good time. Amazing.
E
Beach cricket is incredible fun.
A
Amazing job, Jake. Amazing job. We're so proud of you. That's wild. I'm not even gonna pretend to understand that. We have to move on the. The WNBA playoff field is set. The Seattle Storm clinched the eighth and final spot in the postseason with a win on Tuesday. Don't worry about who they beat. It doesn't matter. It was the Valkyries. Erica Wheeler hit a go ahead jumper with 19.2 seconds to play. And then the Storm denied the Valkyries twice in the final possession to secure the victory. The playoffs begin on Sunday. It's. We've got football. It's just so stressful. There's too much happening at once. I think I have to buy a second TV for my living room. Thoughts?
D
I mean, I have two TVs in my bar downstairs. It's. It's the dream.
A
Yeah. Downstairs is just go to a sports bar. Yeah. Then I gotta talk to people.
E
I say do it. Absolutely.
A
I have my TV mounted and I can't picture where I would put another tv.
D
So my neighbor keeps one of those, like substitute teacher TVs that he wheels into the room that like, if he needs a second tv, he'll put Red Zone up on it.
A
Yeah, that's a good idea. I just unfortunately don't have the space to wheel it somewhere else. It's truly.
C
What's this thing I hear about with Red Zone has commercials. It never. It had. Never had commercials. Baby girl, do I gotta listen?
A
Do I have to go to the back? Yeah, you gotta go back and listen to the back catalog no. 15. They did four 15 second commercials that were on screen but not like going to commercial. So they acted like we overreacted, which I guess we did. But at the same time, there were never commercials before. And now there's commercials. And so they're just gonna keep putting more commercials in it. Probably. I'm really sorry that your first year of experience with Red Zone is gonna be tainted by advertisements. Advertisements. But it is the. That's how it's going to be. Okay. So Sunday, the playoffs start for the WNBA three game series in the first round. This is the first time since 2021 that every WNBA playoff team has a winning record. The Seattle we did not think was going to struggle like this to get in, limp their way into the finish because they've got three All Stars. Skyler Diggins, Neca Ogwumike, and Gabby Williams. And they acquired Brittany Sykes at the trade deadline. But they lost six game in a. Six games in a row to start August. And they, you know, needed to win. They did. They got there. Um, so the other teams in the playoffs are Minnesota, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Phoenix, New York, Golden State, and Indiana. And a friendly reminder that the Golden State Valkyries are not even allowed to go to their home. They're not even allowed to play in the place where they live, Baalhalla, because of a prior agreement made for that space before they even existed as a team. A bummer, because I believe they sold out for most of their games this year. I saw some stat about the crowd and how great it was, but because they're great, the. What do they say? The Lord gives his toughest challenges to his strongest soldiers. So Valkyries fans, you got to travel. Does everybody have a team here for the. For the. For the playoffs? A rooting agency.
E
My team's still in contention.
A
Yeah. Who are you? Who do you. You're Chris. I hear your name is Chris and you're a Storm fan. Okay, great. Congrats. Just because of Sue Bird.
E
No, because of Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird.
D
But mainly, they're the most Australian team there's ever been.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
E
Big, big Australian connection to the Seattle Storm.
A
And you're Australian.
B
Yes, I am.
A
Good to know. Good to know. All right, and then Brady, who do you got?
D
I mean, Isabella, if you're going to lean. Liberty.
A
Yes.
D
Because Liberty, for content purposes, I want there to continue to be games in New York for Brady.
A
You don't even come here to do the podcast you work on. If you picked New York, I would kick your ass.
C
What's your. What's your team again? Is it the Mystic? Mystics?
D
So I. The Mystics are in D.C. they are. They played in Baltimore this year.
A
They are not in the playoffs.
D
I think I'm gonna go with the links. I think I'm gonna root Minnesota. It's the one seed, but, like, the Aces are the hot one. Minnesota has not won during the Feast of Collier's Run. You know, you want to see her get a ring? She's great. Yeah, I think I want to see the one seed go all the way through.
A
How exciting.
E
Just Rooting for chalk.
A
I mean, how exciting. I mean, it is that Sue Bird, when she came and told us all about the season, before the season started, she was like, it's there. I mean, they are. They've got the same group together still and they've got a chip on their shoulder about not winning last year. So they are the team, probably the team to beat. I don't know if I'm misquoting her. Maybe I, maybe I said that and she agreed. It's just like we did know we were going to be here. They are a great team. It's a great pick. It's just like snooze fest.
D
Okay, well, let me pitch you. If they win, that means we get stud buds on a parade float.
A
Yeah, good point. I'm not saying I'm not rooting for it. I'm just saying I'm not enthused by your pick content wise. And that's fine. Maybe that's for off pod. Maybe.
D
I'll give you those can't all be underdogs.
A
That's right. They sure can't. Woof, woof. Hey, the US Men's National Team. That's soccer. We have boys that play soccer. People forget they won a game. You guys, good job. You guys, good job. Oh, my God. Good job. Two, nothing. Wow. Sorry. The only reason so good they get this heat for me is because people were still trying to make the equal pay argument when it with the men's national team and the women's national team. I was like, this is so stupid. It does not actually apply at all here. And I take that out on the men's national team. That's not anybody's fault. That's me being unprofessional. Let me clean it up. After they lost to South Korea on Saturday to nothing, to nil, the U.S. men's National Team hoped to get its Mojo back with a win. And they did. Mojo has returned, allegedly to the men's national team. Yeah. This win marks a potential turning point. Stop me if you've heard this before.
E
Potential doing a lot of heavy lifting.
A
Stop me if you've heard this one potential turning point for the men's national team. Manager Pocatino. Is it Pocatino?
D
It's Pochettino.
A
Pochettino. Maurizio Pochettino. After months of testing out potential lineup combinations, this game demonstrated more team chemistry than the several past editions. And Pochettino, who dismissed some criticism of the team as quote, unquote bullshit on Monday, will have a much needed win under his belt. In the sigh of relief heading into the fall. I don't think it's much of a sigh of relief. It's.
D
Can you break a five game losing streak against top 25 teams? It's something. It's better than losing a six, one in a row.
A
Look, I want nothing more than for the men's national team to be fantastic. I just don't see the indications that they know what they're doing and have committed to a plan of action. It feels like every time I see press about the men's national team, it's somebody who like used to play for it being like, what the fuck is this? And so I go, well, if he doesn't think they've got it, I don't need to pay attention. There's a lot going on in sports and the men's national team ain't would.
D
Be less of a problem if we weren't hosting the World Cup.
A
Yeah, that is, that is. And did you guys see Mamdani? Did you see what Mamdani had to say? Zoran Mamdani, currently leading the race to become mayor of New York City, has launched a game over greed petition that calls on FIFA to abandon its plan to use dynamic pricing for the 2026 World cup, which will be co hosted across United States, Canada and Mexico. At a time when moving freely between those things is cool and awesome. So I'm glad that we're doing that. Eight World cup matches will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, famously a great place to go catch a game, shout out. We including the final. The final will be at MetLife, but FIFA's host city agreement is with both New York City and New Jersey because, you know, whatever complicated situation that is, They've confirmed in a briefing called to media last week that the organization plans to use dynamic pricing. My understanding of dynamic pricing, as demand goes up, so does the price.
C
Yeah, that sounds right.
A
It's really complicated. I've tried to dive in on this before and actually we talked about it on the radio show today, so this is probably something I'm gonna have to like read up about. But for the way I've encountered it is hearing people talk about like let's say Beyonce as an example. I don't actually know if she uses it. I'm just using the artist as an example. If you're in the Beyonce super fan group, you get early access to tickets, but then because the demand for the access from fans is so high, they end up spending more money on the tickets than they would have if they just waited for later rounds of tickets that got released. I feel like I've seen people complain about this with certain concerts. I don't get it. It doesn't seem right. It seems like we're pricing fans out really quickly. And look, I, I get it. People always go like supply and demand. If someone will pay it, you can charge it. And I get that like as a concept. But it reach. You reach a point. You reach a point where it's like, do you want the fans of the thing in the building or not? Because. Not that you can't be rich and be a sports fan. You can. Not that you can't be a corporate sponsor and absolutely love a team. You can. It's just like, I don't know, there's something too. Especially when we're trying to grow the game here, we want people to care more about this game here. It seems a little wild to price out the die hard fans. I would want to make sure if I were having a World cup here that the people who get it, pay attention to it and love that we're having the World cup here, get to be in the building no matter what. Because the la. I would be embarrassed by a corporate boring, $6,000 a ticket crowd for the World Cup.
D
The for WrestleMania has gotten so expensive and so priced up that you end up with a crowd where like the first three rows are all the CFOs of fanatics.
A
Yeah.
D
And those are not the guys who are like throwing double middle fingers at Roman reigns and screaming. And that makes just for more an entertaining product. It's just, it's so noticeable at these events where it becomes such a price gouging event.
A
Yeah. And I saw a lot of people, I saw a lot of discourse around this with the US Open as people being like, these influences.
C
I want to.
A
Oh yeah. Yes. The discourse was just Isabella texting me, being like, can I go to the.
C
Why are these tickets so expensive?
A
Yeah, the tickets were expensive. And then there were a lot of like influencers who got in for free as brand partnerships. But then they were making it part of their content that they didn't know about or really care about tennis. And I know a lot of people were like, I'm a dire tennis fan. I also am like a micro influencer. And nobody asks. I would like to go. I like the actual product. So it's obviously something that I think sports is reckoning with with the leveraging of celebrity and that online community of like, remember we saw Livy Dunn do the Kentucky Derby writers up and get a ton of. For that. It's like they're trying to bring in this audience and appeal to them. It's a famously difficult audience to appeal to. And then they're just on this other side of it. The amount of money they're asking for tickets to things a guy. The FIFA officials on the briefing call, where they said they'd be using this dynamic pricing, said that this would allow dynamic. Dynamic pricing would allow FIFA to maximize revenues and attendance. And let me just say, if you're worried about selling out the World Cup Final, we got bigger issues. I don't think it's going to be like, well, we wouldn't be able to get everybody in the building if we didn't utilize this thing that we're. It's. If you want to maximize attendance, you'd make it free. Get out of my face. But, hey, at least it's gonna suck to drive to. And Mamdani can ball. I guess he. While doing this, making this announcement, he's juggling a soccer ball. Yeah, that's. Show me. Let me see Cuomo do that.
C
I was gonna say that's another thing. Add to his. Hey, real quick resume.
A
Throw a ball at Cuomo. See what happens. I just want to see. It's been fun watching Cuomo react to the things Mom Donnie does, where you could tell, he's like, this will be our way of. And you're like, that didn't work at all. And I would love him to take a stab at this. Show me Cuomo doing a, like, punt kick. What are those drills like? Show me Cuomo doing. Well, I don't want to say doing suicides. Somebody's going to take that out of context. I meant like the running.
C
Maybe get Cuomo playing catch.
A
Yeah, show me it's somebody having a catch with Cuomo. I want to see Cuomo try to hit a free throw. Let's see that.
C
Yeah, I want to see Cuomo roller skating.
A
Oh, different. Different. In a cute outfit, through a park. Go ahead, Cuomo. We're not saying these will get our vote, but they might. Okay, Cuomo, get out that. Not a. Is it a map? But you don't have a map. You're drawing up the map, right? It's a. Or is it.
C
Draw up the map.
A
You have a map? Oh, oh, I don't know. I don't listen to the podcast. And now for people like Isabella who hear you say wailing on a heavy bag. What do you think he means by that?
C
Wailing on a heavy bag. Are you, like, Is the heavy bag pretending to be like, a way. It's like a pretend whale and you're riding it in the water.
A
How'd she get it? How'd she get it on her first try? Poseidon over here. What?
C
So you guys aren't gonna tell me what it is?
A
It's boxing. It's a heavy bag.
C
It's a. Oh, that's what it's called.
A
Jordan Hudson, We've been following her trademark saga. She's been filing. This is. Bill Belichick's child bride. Has been filing with the trademark office, trying to trademark certain phrases. The patent. US Patent and Trademark Office. I remember we. We took significant pause when we saw that she was applying for Trail of Salty Tears. I believe that's the biggest F up we'. Seen. And it's tough ranking them, but that was the one that set off the most alarm bells for us, I believe. This is not about those. This is. This news update is that the trademark office has refused four of her applications. I mean, filed by North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick and his companion. Wow, that sure makes her sound like a caregiver. This is they. The reason that they are being denied is because they would cause a likelihood of confusion with previously filed trademarks. So she filed for do your job parentheses, Bill's version, ignore the noise, Bill's version, the bellustrator, Bill's version, and no days off. Bill's version, the Patriots trademarked the bellustrator in 2009, do your job in 2013, and no days off, and ignore the noise in 2017. So this is, to me, the first time I can see so clearly what she's attempting to do and can also see so clearly that that's not how this works. I guess the argument she would make is that these were Bill's trademarks. Bill, not the team, but Bill Belichick, when he was the coach of the Patriots, and the Patriots filed the trademarks because they became synonymous with the program. But I guess you could argue, and I wouldn't even say this is wrong, that that's. It was Bill's idea. But the Patriots trademarked it. And clearly, given the stories we've heard about Bill refusing to let Patriot scouts come look at the kids he's supposed to be setting up for their future. Bill clearly has some sort of animosity. I think that makes perfect sense that the two, the team and Bill Belichick don't get along fine. Jordan Hudson's trying to do like a Taylor Swift here, where she's like, well, it was our song that's now owned by somebody else. We want to make our version of it so people can then buy our version of that merch and the money can go to the rightful person who created the thing. Unfortunately, Jordan, the Patent and Trademark Office does not function by these rules. Taylor Swift had massive swells of public support in this endeavor, and she eventually bought back her. Like, this is not. This is. Am I crazy? This feels like a. Like a. Almost a childlike understanding of how to go about the process that you're attempting to do here. It's just like, the trademark office isn't gonna go, oh, because it was his idea. Do you know how many times people have come up with an idea that was theirs, that a company took and made their own because it happened during company time? That's often in a contract. It's like, I don't own garbage time. I made that show. I wouldn't. You don't. I don't know, man. This is. At least I see it. At least I don't go like, trail of salty tears. Where's she going with this? This? I'm like, oh, I see what she was trying to do. It didn't work.
C
Was there ever an explanation of what the trail of salty tears was going?
A
I admittedly have not looked back into it since for an update, but I don't. I don't think I. It wasn't even the headline. When I saw it. It was. People were upset about other things, and I was like, excuse me real quick. What the fuck is this? I don't. Okay. There's still. There's still hope. Question mark. I don't know even what you root for in this situation. I actually think. I kind of hope that one she gets approved for. I'd like to see the attempt. Show me what you're gonna do with that just so I can know it's in risk. It's being respectful of them. She pulls a Dan Snyder. It's actually in honor of the thing that's miserable and bad. Sorry to bring that up. Brady. So, Isabell, you're. Oh, I guess I'm supposed to ask if we care about Canelo and Crawford. Saturday on Netflix. I'm gonna vote right away.
C
No, I don't really care.
A
Oh, my God. I love that. I love that. Brady, what's. Sell us? Yeah. Yeah. Great. Yeah. Huh? It's on Netflix. Where. Where is it in the world? Is it in Saudi? Okay. Thank God. Thank God. Everything. Now I'm like, is it. Is it in Saudi Arabia? Yeah. Okay. Well, speaking of football. Isabella, would it be crazy if I ask you to come in here and sit in this empty seat and talk with me about your fantasy team?
C
No. I've been dying to sit in this seat. Yay.
A
Come in. Okay, Isabella, week one fantasy football experience in the books.
C
Yep.
A
We didn't talk about but posted about online, so I think should address that. The first issue we ran into was when you went to set your lineup on Thursday. So proud of you guys.
C
Set me up for failure.
A
So proud of you that I was like, oh, my God, she's doing it. She's setting her lineup. Oh, no, I didn't teach her that. You move them to the bench. You don't drop them from your team. Yeah, walk me through that.
C
So I'm like, in the car, passenger princessing through la. You know, I made the starting lineup on vacation. Okay. So it shows that I actually care.
A
She does.
C
So I was trying to figure out through the app. I was looking at it, and I was like, do I dress? Drag something? I wasn't able to drag anything. And the only option to do anything with any of these players is drop. So I was like, maybe that means drop to the bench.
A
Maybe. But I get it. I could see why that would make a little sense. It was terrifying.
D
When you click on a player, I'm getting these notifications.
A
You click on a player.
C
I'm clicking on puka.
A
Right.
C
There's only thing there that says is drop.
A
Let me see. So you wouldn't click on him. You would be in your lineup, and you would click the position next to their name, and it'll say, move player. And the only option will be to move him to the bench. So you would do that, and then you would go to your bench and you would pick a player and click on the little blue dot, and then you would move them up into the spot. Oh. So don't click the player. The. Click the player if you need information. Is he out? Is he hurt? Is he playing? How did he do last week? Is it his ankle or his knee? Click the position when you want to move him around your lineup.
C
Oh, that's why I'm not pressing. Yeah, I'm not clicking the position. I'm clicking just the whole bar or, like, where their name is. But anyways, yeah, Brady came to the rescue and was able to.
A
Commissioner Brady swooped in and said, all right, everybody, I'm going to be putting these players back on Isabella's team. And we figured it out.
C
I was in the middle. I was like, in the car trying to figure this out. And I'm like, my boyfriend's driving, and I'm like, I think I just lost these two players. And they're saying it's like, my best.
A
Wide receivers, and I don't know if I can get them back. The chat of the league reacting. Gif. Reacting to you dropping everybody you just drafted was so funny. And then just you going, wait, I don't think I'm doing this properly.
C
But they were so nice, and they were like, I think we should give Isabella a chance to get them back.
A
Very sweet. Yeah, very nice.
C
If you didn't, I'd be like, okay, it's game time now. I'm gonna fucking crush you.
A
You guys are only in this league because of me anyway. Exactly. Okay, so you. Once you did get your lineup set, how did it go? How did your team do?
C
So initially, I was getting all my points from the bench, and I was like, oh, do I not do those points enough?
A
Getting all my points from the bench is awesome. I love that. Initially, my bench was doing great for.
C
Me, and it was also specifically the players that I accidentally dropped, so I was like, damn. So they were good. Yeah, that was kind of scary. And then I was actually projected to lose against the person I was matching up with, but then I won.
A
That was the announcement. They didn't know this yet?
C
Oh, they didn't?
A
No.
C
Oh, well, I won first week.
D
I don't know.
A
Who did you play against? Who was the person?
C
I think it was do go chase them waterfalls. I think that was. That's there.
A
Don't stick to those rivers or lakes that you're used to.
C
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
D
And he does have Jamar Chase, so that is a guy on.
A
Oh, you know that it's a guy. You know that it's a guy. Okay. Why?
C
Is he. Is he bad? Is he good?
A
No, Chase is great.
C
Okay.
E
He just had a down week.
A
Yeah. Oddly enough, the Bengals defense was what gave them the win.
D
That's Tom's team. Tom is the guy.
A
Okay. Tom. All right. I didn't know we were going by their names.
C
Also, what's up with McCaffrey? Is he not a. Is he fine? Is he great?
A
Quote, unquote, fine? Yeah.
D
He's the only one on that team that didn't get hit.
E
A couple of days before, he had had the calf issue, and we were wondering, oh, is this another case where he's just gonna be.
A
I went straight up on the radio. I heard he was out, and I was like, damn, that sucks. And then the next day he was like, I'm actually fine. I'm playing. And I felt like a big, dumb idiot.
E
And he got fed, just like we.
B
Said he was going to.
A
Fed a lot. He was out there a lot, so. So that's good news.
E
Kiddo's gonna be out because he just got placed on the ir, so he's gonna get fed even more.
C
One of my players is out.
A
Who's that?
C
Chris Godwin Jr. Yeah, we said before.
E
You drafted him, the reason why he slipped so much is probably because he's out for the first two weeks of the season.
A
You drafted him late because he's going to be.
B
Matthew Barry told you that?
E
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
She knows. Oh, yeah. He comes back.
C
Sorry, I'm still in vacay mode.
E
He's good to have on your bench. He's good to stash.
C
Okay, so I should.
D
Katie, what was the reaction after our last recording? About two hours after our recording, after Dan had had groveled, grumbled about the 49ers kicker Jake Moody giving him the Moody Blues. They cut Jake Moody. Dan will that into existence.
A
Yeah. Let me say. I think Dan would want me to say that. Like, he knows that that's a person, and that person's trying their best, and he doesn't want to, like, pile on a kicker and say he wants the kicker to be fired. But if we were to remove all the human element of it and just look at a fan watching the 49 Er, Dan, that this weekend, watching the 49ers, anytime Moody was out there or it was a situation where you would bring your field goal team out and you would kick, he was. Dan was stressed. He was upset, he was frustrated. This has been a thing with Moody that's been, I think, a little frustrating, and he feels like they should have given up on the experiment. But I think he also, when he gets confronted with a sports podcast asking him how he feels about his kicker, he's like, he seems nice. He seems like a nice guy. So I don't want to say he's celebrated. I don't want to say it. So I won't.
C
But okay. When I was in San Francisco.
A
Yeah, babe.
C
I was outside. I may or may not have been smoking a cigarette, and there was a couple walking past us in Buffalo Bills jerseys. And I was like, is that allowed?
A
Yeah, you can do whatever you want. Freedom. As of now. Can somebody check? No. But I was even like, we still have personal freedoms. Can somebody Google. Oh, I don't want that.
D
Content to date by the time this goes live.
A
Yeah, let's not say, one way or the other, personal freedom still belong.
C
But I was like, oh, did they play the Bills this weekend?
D
No.
C
No. So they were.
D
Bills play the Ravens.
C
They were just repping.
E
They would just like to represent.
A
They just wanted you to know that they do weird stuff with ketchup and mustard. Okay. That's all.
C
Okay.
D
Latest Bills news. We didn't discuss this over. Earlier this week with the Bills.
A
Oh, the fans.
D
Hallmark. The Hallmark channel announced premiering November 22nd on the hallmark Channel, Right. I'm trying to find the actual title of this.
C
You gotta stay tuned.
D
But they will. They will be launching Holiday Touchdown. A Bill's love story.
A
I'm sorry. So this is the Haley Steinfeld. That's what it. Is that what it's trying to be? Because remember when they did the Taylor and Travis I just learned movie?
D
They did the one last year. That was Taylor and Travis Adjace. This just seems to be two Bills fans who fall in love at a Bill's tailgate.
A
At the tailgate.
B
Yeah.
A
I'm ready. Don't make that face. We're watching this together.
D
The tagline on this poster gets me the best. The tagline says, go for four, you might find forever.
A
I'm sorry.
C
So I didn't know what that phrase was.
A
Go for four.
D
Go for four.
C
Apparently, that's not a phrase.
D
Forever.
A
Is that like you can go for two.
C
That's what Brady said.
A
You could also go for it on 4th. Go for 4. About A Bills thing. That's kind of yikes, right? Because didn't they. Four times.
D
They lost four.
A
Go to the super bowl and lose it. I don't know that I'd say, go for four, you might find forever. Yikes. They tried a little.
C
I said they should have just said, go for forever.
A
Go forth and prosper.
C
No, I'll watch it.
A
I'll watch it. I don't have an explanation for this, but I do have to say Dan and I got really into Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies and the. During the pandemic, and we have to separate. And the. The way that we separate the two is that to us, spiritually, the Hallmark cinematic universe is located in Utah. All the movies there are like you. It's like assault. Like, everything happening happens in Utah. For Hallmark. For me, that's the vibe. And I. Again, I won't explain further. So we want to use you.
D
I got into the. I got into the Lohan Netflix universe. The Lindsay Lohan Christmas special.
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
D
No, there are a couple. There were those kept the Last couple years.
A
New Faces Lohan or old New Face Lohan.
C
Oh, yeah, there is she. I know she does have a Christmas one.
A
I saw that one where they randomly do a montage at the beginning of like, moments throughout history, but it includes a bunch of Netflix shows as big, like, historic moments, and it doesn't include like 9, 11.
C
Okay, so tell me what I should do for my. For next week. Like, I'm part of.
A
A.
C
Part of me is kind of like, I don't know, my team seems good, my lineup seems good, so maybe I shouldn't mess with it.
A
Well, week to week is gonna change based off of matchups. Are you using the fools? The easiest way to do it without having to think too much about it is to go by the point projections that they give you.
C
And that's what I did. And I ended up dropping a couple players.
A
Yeah, I wouldn't do anything that says drop. I would never touch any button that says drop. But if it says, like, you know, if you put together a lineup and it's like this guy's gonna do. Supposed to get 30 points, don't replace him with a guy who's only gonna get 10 or who has a bye week. Like, yeah, yeah, you can. If you feel it in your bones that this going to go off and you might be right, but you're safest. If you'd like to just play it safe, you just play the ones who have the biggest projection.
C
That's what I did last week. I was like, that number. Sound looks better.
A
Brady, just in the interest of time. So we don't go through her entire lineup looking at this. Is there a move you would recommend that she make seeing as you're looking at her lineup and who she has on her bench?
D
So I think you're not. A lot of people are starting Caleb Williams, but. But it's a really fun matchup because he. The Bears are playing the Lions. The Bears head coach was the Lions offensive coordinator last year. So this is a very fun, like, coach moves teams, plays the old team. Kind of got to show them what you got kind of game. I think you probably get something really fun from Caleb Williams or he completely bombs, but either way.
A
And here's the thing, if he bombs, then we'll just. We're going to start talking about getting you a new quarterback eventually. But this, I think, like Brady's saying, this could be a great.
C
I can get a new one.
A
And if it is. Yeah, but let's not worry about it yet. Can I tell you this? People in that market were like, really unnecessarily mean to him this week in a way that really pissed me off. And so I think for you, knowing you as a person, like, rooting for Caleb Williams this weekend is the move.
C
Okay, I'm excited.
A
Cool.
D
His nails were.
A
Oh, yeah. Did you see that? Yeah. Great. What did it say? It said something.
C
It was like he Angel Reese's nail tech.
A
Oh, yeah. But what? It said something.
C
Oh, it was like the suicide hotline.
D
Logo for the suicide prevention line.
A
Yeah, yeah. Shout out. He's the best.
D
Now, I did have a problem with the rest.
A
I know.
C
I didn't see this shirt.
A
You gotta look at it. And here, this is good because she's not like paying attention to football fashion like that. That we'll see if it bothers her.
C
Only Bill Bell.
D
Caleb Williams wearing a regular Bears jersey because that is the uniform under it. He had the spandex long sleeve shirt, but with only one sleeve. So it was all the way down his right arm. Nothing on his left arm. But over that under his jersey was a regular short sleeve gray cotton T shirt. Yeah, that hung out the bottom. It hung out his sleeves. It didn't match anything else on his uniform. It gave very, very much like peewee football.
A
What was it there for? Why was he doing that?
D
I have no idea what it was there for. But you've already got an undershirt on and.
A
But you're already like, weird about football fashion. Like watching a little bit of college football. I tried not to, but there it was there. I'm seeing too much leg on these boys. What are we. What's going on down there with their fashion? Why are they always, you know what I'm talking about? COVID up them leg.
C
I kind of like the undershirt, not because I think it looks good, but because it kind of gives the energy of like, yeah, I'm showing up. I don't care.
A
Like, I gotta go play this game real quick. I'll be right back.
C
Yeah, just. I just practice, practice, practice.
A
Talking about practice, what about the rest of your lineup decision?
D
Yeah. Your flex position. You have George Pickens going for Dallas in your lineup right now against the Giants. That's two bad teams playing each other on your bench. Is devonte Smith playing for the Eagles against the Chiefs? The super bowl rematch. Those games tend to be really exciting. I think you could have the Eagles putting up a lot of points through the air. Against the Chiefs, I would put devonte Smith in over George Pickens in your.
A
Flex position if you want to. Now Again, Brady is not allowed to tell you what to do in this context. I don't know about the rest of them. So you can do whatever you feel, but that's just his advice. Chris, did you have any advising that you wanted to get in before she sets her lineup?
E
Well, no, I don't think it can really go too long.
A
Did he sound like an old man at first? Whoa. I don't know. Maybe.
C
Did you have like something in your throat?
E
I don't think so.
A
The way Isabella went, like, you're like. Well, I think if I take a look here, put on my glasses. Sorry, Chris, what were you saying?
E
I think she's got a pretty strong bench. Everyone that she has on a bench, I think would, if you decided to put them in your flex spot, would be fine. Devonte Smith, obviously the big one. That would make a lot of sense when it comes to a tiebreaker for me, I usually choose between. I usually choose the player that I know I'm going to be able to watch. So if you don't think you're going to be able to watch the Dallas game, for instance, then don't choose George Pickens or Javante Williams, who also look good last week. And if there's another game that you're going to watch instead, like the Eagles and Chiefs game, then go Javante Smith or if you're gonna, for whatever reason watch the Seahawks and Steelers game, then you can put in Zach Charbonnet who looked really good in his opening round matchup. So just take that into consideration as well when filling out your, your roster. If you're going to be able to watch the players play, that's generally a good, a good tiebreaker.
A
Here's another thing I'd like to zoom in on. You're starting the Seattle defense as of right now, and I can't change it again. What do you mean by that? Oh, because you don't have anybody, you don't have another defense on your bench. Yeah, yeah, that's okay. Defenses are. We really still have yet to explain the wavy wire to you, but I'm trying to simplify it as much as possible. Defenses, there are more of them than there are teams in your fantasy league, because there's 32 teams in the league and you have a 10 team fantasy league. So just by nature of that, 22 defenses are, unless somebody has two on their team for whatever reason, are unclaimed. So the day of a game, when did waivers clear? Wednesdays.
D
Yeah, Wednesday mornings.
A
So the day of like Thursday, the you can just add Somebody who's available to your team without any penalty. You would have to drop somebody to free up a space. So you could drop a. This is one of the harder things is figuring out who to drop. But you could. If somebody's hurt and you think you can get them back, you just free up a space. You could pick up or you could drop the Seattle defense because you could get them back. They're not like doing amazingly incredible. They're a huge get. You have to hold on to them. Right. They're not like top ranked defense.
D
They're good, but no, they're not like unbeatable.
A
And so I'm not saying you should, but we did see Aaron Rodgers this last week with his Pittsburgh debut. He did well. He threw for four touchdowns. He. So I don't know if that's gonna always be the deal with the Steelers, but I do know after seeing vintage Aaron Rodgers, I would at least think about seeing if there's another defense available who's playing against a team that does not have a good offense. And I don't have my computer in front of me, but you guys do. Is anything jumping out to you as somebody she could target? Who's playing the. Like, who's playing. Oh, I guess New England's playing the Dolphins.
D
Niners against the Saints. Niners defense is available.
A
Okay.
C
Are they good?
A
Yeah, I think. I think you should. That's something you could do. You could pick up and you just got back from San Francisco. Wouldn't that be perfect? Oh, yeah. Wouldn't that be beautiful? Just like that. Ben, you and the bench. San Francisco all the way.
D
The problem is you have to look at Seattle, though, as you're dropping them. You have to make eye contact and you have to tell them you're not worth it.
A
He's right.
D
I'm going to drop you because I like someone.
A
You have to go. Seattle. I don't love you anymore.
C
Damn, Seattle.
A
You're not doing it for me.
C
Kenny Maine. Doesn't he like Seahawks?
A
Yeah. Yes, she. She remembers that.
B
Isabella.
A
I just want people to be giving her credit. She's been overloaded with information and she recalls it, not me. Okay. So you feel good about your. Your team?
C
I do.
A
How is the fantasy football experience in general so far? Scale of 1 to 10?
C
So far? I would say it's an 8.
A
Great. Absolute.
C
And then the only reason why it's not a 10 is because it took me a while to learn the app.
A
Yeah. And we'll get. That'll come with time. And then by the. I Honestly think by the, like, later weeks of this, you're gonna be going, dude, I dropped him. I dropped him. I kicked him to the curb. I hit the waiver wire. I was third. And I picked up this blah, blah, blah, blah. We're just gonna be like.
D
Best part is that it only gets better because you never lose. Like, it only just gets more fun because you will never lose.
C
What do you mean?
A
He's making a joke.
C
Oh, don't call me that, Brady.
E
That just sounded like collusion to me, to be honest.
A
It did. I was like, I think the commissioner. I was like, I do think we have to say he's not. It's not engineered like that. Yes, we fixed that one thing. But I also think we should establish. And I'm dying. We have to go. But if you drop anybody again, Brady can't, I don't think, step in to save the day. Are we in agreement on that?
D
I mean, I could. You're saying I shouldn't.
A
Shouldn't. Yes, obviously.
B
All right.
A
No, I'm gonna cut your hand out.
D
So that you can't, shouldn't, and won't.
A
Yeah. I think we. Now that we've. Cause we know it's drop. Anything that says drop means, like, for good. You can eventually add them back potentially, but they will be off of your team if you drop them, if you move them, that's okay. Okay. All right. You feel good?
C
I feel good.
A
Good job. Thank you. Thanks for doing it on vacation.
C
I got a little notification. Said, victory secured.
A
I love it. As of right now, I think we'll plan on doing this. We'll recap her team how they did and look forward to next week on the Thursday episodes again, this may move. We're shifting our. I was gonna ask the table in.
A
The corner and the 75, I believe, chairs.
B
Yeah.
A
Probably remove those, make a little bit of space. But again, like, we really only need this half of it. This room is almost too big. Have you ever had a room like a bedroom? You've got to decorate. The boys do this, but you're like, this room's too big. I don't have enough stuff in here.
B
I feel like a house is different.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, bigger rooms are better. Right.
A
You're right.
B
Studios, though. But this is a nice studio. I like it.
A
I like it quite a bit. It was a listening room before. I don't really know what that is, but that's why the soundproofing. So good.
B
Oh, perfect.
A
So I'm a big fan of that part of it.
B
So no one can hear us.
A
That's right.
B
You could join. Yeah.
A
You could scream. Nobody would know because they're working. They have jobs to do. Thank you for coming in and for doing this. You are, like, not. Not busy. You guys are in the, like, thick of it for your season.
B
Yeah, yeah, we are. We're. Let's see, this weekend, it will be three weeks into, like, our 10 week playoff, and we're in Bristol, Tennessee, this weekend. So I head back tonight and then go to Tennessee in a couple days. But yeah, we're. We're. Everyone says, like, oh, we're winding down, but no, we're just kind of ramping up.
A
I mean. Yeah, ramp up to then wind down, I guess. We had Bubba on a couple, like a week or two.
B
I saw that ago. Yeah.
A
I asked him to give us. I'm like, we got Blaney coming in. What do you give me a something only you know about him that, like, is obviously safe, but, like, fun we can be funny with. And he just was like, like, I got nothing.
B
That's my guy. I know, right there.
A
It's a good friend.
B
Yeah. Not telling secrets.
A
I know. And I asked about parties you guys throw when you win. And he was like, yeah, they happen.
B
Yeah.
A
And that's it, lady.
B
20 years of friendship.
A
I'm not giving you nothing. You guys are really sweet. You're like the best friendships throughout nascar. They're very cute. I wanted to ask you. I saw. Look, I'm not going to lie to you that I'm a diehard NASCAR fan. Is that okay? Don't yell at me. I love a couple. Okay.
B
That's great.
A
But obviously know you and respect you and respect the craft. That's what you guys call it, right?
B
Yeah.
A
The craft of driving, of taking left turns. I saw an article today, or it was a video. Kyle Petty was talking about you and said, is Ryan Blaney too nice? Now, as far as questions being asked about you go, that's gotta be. That's not, like, a bad one. How is that received by you when you hear that? The conversation might be that you're too nice. Nice.
B
It's better than saying, is he too much of an asshole?
A
That's so true.
B
I'd rather be too nice than an asshole.
A
Yeah.
B
But. Yeah, so I don't know. I think I'm a genuine. I'm just kind of just a normal, nice person. I try to be nice to people until they give me a reason to not be nice to them, but my. That's just kind of how I was raised, is like, you know, be nice. Treat people how you want to be treated. I don't want to be treated like a jerk by somebody, so why would I treat that person like that unless I. They give me a reason not to like them? So it's actually kind of a nice compliment, honestly.
A
Yeah, it's a nice answer.
B
Has you ever. Someone has ever complained about that person's too nice?
A
No. I could tell you personally, no. I've never had someone go, I don't know that Katie Nolan might be too nice. It's never come up. So this is why this fascinates me. He wanted to know if you're too nice to drive a race car because of Kyle Larson, I guess, on Sunday ran into you.
B
He spun me out. Yeah.
A
So explain for our listeners who may not know the dynamics of that, like, who was in the wrong based off of, like, NASCAR rules.
B
Well, yeah, I mean, Larson was in the wrong because he spun me out, and I got the bad end of it.
A
Why'd he do that?
B
He didn't mean to do it. I mean, it was a mistake. People make mistakes all the time. It was unfortunate. I got kind of the crap end of it, but, yeah, it wasn't malicious or anything.
A
Now, that's a very nice guy answer.
B
I mean, that's the truth, though. Like, I don't think in my mind that he meant to do it. And even though it still stinks and, you know, I'm not. I wasn't, like, the happiest about it, but it wasn't, like, intentional, I don't think, you know.
A
So if it was, show me how mad you would be about me.
B
To tear apart your studio.
A
No, but you could.
B
Your brand new studio, you could.
A
It's technically not finished.
B
You have insurance. Yeah. No, I'm not going to show you how mad.
A
Just show me what you look like when you're mad.
B
I don't get mad very often. I don't know. I'm not an angry person at all. No. Unless it's like, I'll get angry with, like, IKEA furniture.
A
Okay. Frustrating.
B
That's the. Frustrated. That's the most frustrated I get.
A
Okay, so your thing that triggers you is if it's like you can't figure out a thing that feels like it.
B
Should be easy if the instructions don't make any sense to me.
A
Well, they're pictures.
B
Yeah, I know. There's no words to them.
A
And it's also. Sometimes you're like, okay, well, while we're drawing pictures, maybe the guy could have fingers. Because now it's a guy that's like this, and I'm like, I can't relate to him. At least draw a guy with an opposable thumb.
B
Yeah, I'm gonna put out. Yeah, this is my message to ikea. Put a little bit of dialogue in your instruction manuals. And also, don't make your furniture cheap and crappy. I mean, that's why people go to Ikea, though.
A
He's sorry about that last part. He didn't mean that last part. Please keep making your stuff cheap. My nit to pick. I built a whole bookshelf all by myself for Mykea. And it was one of the ones that. It's like particle board on the back. And so you just use these, like, tight, like a thousand tiny nails to nail it into the back of the thing. And I did that. And then, you know, they have you build it upside down so you can nail it on the. And then when I flipped it over, I realized I had put one of the drawers on backwards. So the side of the exposed wood side of it is out, and that's the bookshelf behind my fiance's podcast. So now there's just a piece of wood. But because it's IKEA made it that way. You have to. I couldn't pry the whole thing off to turn the shelf around. So just put a little asterisk at that part, ikea and say, now a lot of people put the shelves on backwards. You want to check that before you nail that thing in.
B
They gotta read reviews. People leave reviews like, hey, maybe you should do this a little bit better.
A
Right? We're just trying to help at the.
B
End of the day, we are.
A
Yeah, we are. He's being very nice about it. Some may say, too nice. Some may say, nothing makes you mad. I wanted you to stand up for yourself to them and say, I'm not nice. I'm a. I'm a big asshole.
B
I can be.
A
You could be.
B
But it's in certain regards, I don't. I don't try to be. You know, I don't think there's a point of that.
A
Okay, well, the answer to question someone.
B
Was too nice for NASCAR at the airport this morning.
A
Talk to me about it.
B
Well.
A
Cause people are acting strange in airports.
B
Yeah. I don't like airports.
A
It's a lot.
B
I don't like them at all. A lot of different airports are funny because it is like, a bunch of people coming. Like people going from place to place. Everyone. No one's ever happy like, that. They're traveling.
A
Never thrilled to be there.
B
It's always like they're already in a bad mood. And so. Well, just for starters, I had to get on three different planes this morning to come up here. And so look what I did for you. I got on three different planes.
A
Not just for me. Right. Promise.
B
You were my only thing up here. This is the only reason I came.
A
You're lying.
B
Yeah. Just wanted to see your new studio. So two of the planes, we had to deboard because they had problems. So then I got on the third plane. Yeah. And if the third plane got deboarded, I was like, I'm not coming.
A
There's something. And I would have.
B
The universe is telling me to not fly up here. So, yeah, I was standing. They were boarding, and this guy is standing. You know how people crowd the entry for no reason?
A
For no reason, Buddy, you're in group six.
B
Yeah, but he wasn't in line. But he was kind of in line, so I just kind of went around him, and it's my turn to board, and I'm going. But apparently, he was in line, and the guy was like, look at that guy. Just so privileged.
A
He said that about you.
B
Yeah. And I had headphones on, but they weren't on, so I actually heard him. I don't think he. He knew I was hearing him. And I turned around at him, I said, buddy, if you're in line, stand like you're in line. And I let him go in front of me. So that was. That was. That's probably as rude as I would ever get to somebody.
A
Is Ryan Blaney too Nice.
B
It wasn't a very rude thing to say, hey, buddy. Hey, buddy.
A
Hey, buddy. If you're in line, get in line. Also, I pass people for a living, okay?
B
So it's what I get paid for.
A
Move over. Damn. Yeah. Those people are the worst.
B
Yeah.
A
And they've always got so many bags.
B
I know, I know. Airports are. They're unfortunate.
A
And they also don't do a good job of giving us a place to stand. They make. They make those little lines that you can stand in, and it's like, three people long. Like, well, this isn't going to corral this nonsense.
B
I really wish I was around in, like, the 70s.
A
Yeah.
B
When airports were, like.
A
When you could smoke on planes.
B
Yeah.
A
Decompress, like, oh, that was a nightmare experience. Yeah.
B
It was just different back then. Right. Like, people would dress up to go to airports. That's another pet peeve of mine is people like, sweatpants.
A
You're in a fleece. Chill out.
B
You know, this is a nice fleece.
A
It is a nice fleece. It's a nice fleece, but it's a fleece.
B
Yeah, but it's nice. Better than, like, sweatpants and, like, slip on sandals and stuff. Like.
A
Yeah. Don't have your toes out on a plane.
B
Yeah. And you're walking barefoot through security. That gives me the ick.
A
There have been times that I'm, like, running out to a flight and I don't think about it. And I'm, like, wearing a shoe that when I get up to security, I'm like. I'm like, no, no. My bare foot is in this shoe.
B
You didn't think about that before you left the airport?
A
No. Cause usually at that point, I've been thinking about 80,000 other. I'm not good at leaving my house. I gotta grab all the stuff. And then I usually get. You saw the bag I came in with.
B
So you just. You don't prepare.
A
No.
B
Right. You just go.
A
Yeah, but when I get there. Actually, my fiance described me last night as being in the moment to a fault. People are always like, stay in the moment. And I'm like, I am a. I can't get out of it. It's. I am. I live where I am at all times.
B
I respect that, though.
A
It's a real nightmare, Ryan. Let me tell you. It. In terms of, like, trying to plan something for your life, it's not good, as I realize. Let me turn the timer on so I don't lose track of how long I make you talk to me, which has.
B
You know, we're restarting.
A
It has happened. No. God.
B
We're Just now starting.
A
Oh, God, no, don't worry. We're almost done. We're not, but we are, if that makes you feel better. Your dad was a famous driver. Your grandpa also a famous driver. Dirt track. You are. How do you address the Nepo baby allegations?
B
I don't think I've ever been called a Nepo baby besides now, so. Thanks for bringing that up. Nepo baby seems to be a huge thing nowadays.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, I see that phrase thrown around a lot.
A
Yeah. Can I advise you?
B
Yeah, please.
A
I think the. The reason it's blown up is because a lot of times the Nepo baby in question's instinct, when asked about it, is to speak from a place of how they also had challenges to face. And usually the people that are asking are just interested in someone going, like, yeah, obviously, it was a lot easier to get into this thing. Now, I don't like people saying that means I didn't work hard, and once I got here, I had to be the person I am to win. But of course, there were some things that were easier, and there were some things also that were a little bit of a challenge, like having to make a name for myself when my name's already been made for me.
B
Yeah, no, I fully agree with that. It's definitely. I definitely had a ton of great opportunities. Like, my dad was able to have a lot of great relationships for me to meet people initially, and that definitely gave me a foot in the door early. So I think when that part, like, if you have parents that are in a sport or something that you're in or any kind of job, I think it is really a huge help to get in the door. But then I think it's just as challenging to still, like, perform once you're in the door. So I do think it is easier because you get a little bit of a head start. But, like, I could get fired at any moment if I'm not doing well, and that's just the way business works.
A
But.
B
But my dad definitely. I had a lot more opportunities than I could say probably a lot of other people had. And so I'm really lucky for that, to be honest.
A
Is there pressure when you do what your dad did really well? Is there pressure to, like, live up to some standard that you feel is set by the universe?
B
I think a little bit, because I think a lot of people compare you to your parents when they, you know, you're doing the same thing that your parents did. I always wanted. I didn't feel so much pressure. I don't think from the outside world. And my dad never put pressure on me, but I always internally felt pressure for. I just want to make my dad proud because he put a lot of time and money behind me growing up and wanting to race and, like, man, I just want to do my dad right. I want to do well for him and things like that because he was a huge part of this opportunity. So I wouldn't say it was more outside. It was more like, internally with me, with my dad. I wanted to. To do him right.
A
So really cute.
B
Oh, thanks.
A
Also really cute. Cause he's wearing a hat that says dad on it.
B
Yeah. It's not for my father.
A
Assume it's because it's probably not even for this reason that you're also about to become a father. But it's just funny that you have. It's like you root for that team, and the team is just dad.
B
I root for team dad. Yeah. I'm gonna be a part of that team soon. I'm happy. I'm gonna get drafted, and I'm gonna be.
A
Yeah. They're picking you with the first pick. I think dad. Team Dad's picking you up. How far out are we on that? You are. For those who don't know, your wife. Beau. Wife is pregnant.
B
Yeah, my wife is. We are due in December, so it's only a few months away.
A
Scary.
B
You know, a little bit. I definitely. I think if, like, you know, people who are about to be parents tell you that they're not scared, I think they're lying because it is scary because it's something you don't know anything about. Like, okay, maybe you have nephews or nieces or things like that, but you're not.
A
Not.
B
You're not a parent yet. And so I think sometimes it does just make us nervous of, you know, hey, this is. We're going to have a new life. This is ours. Like, you don't know what to expect. And I think that's where the nerves come in a little bit. But at the same time, it is met with excitement, because you can't wait for the two people who love each other. Their child, something you made to come into the world and then get to raise that child. So it is nerves, but it's mixed with a lot of excitement, too.
A
It's gonna be so crazy to just, like, see a person that's a mix of the two of you. I know that's what having a baby is, but I feel like I would just go, like, look at it.
B
I know we always. We're doing we do so much research. My wife sends me this stuff all the time. Like, oh, the people say, studies say the baby gets their dad's feet and their mom's nose. And she always like, something to look for. Yeah. She's like, you have nasty feet. I can't wait to see our gross kids feet. So I was like, come on now.
A
Every baby I've met has looked recently. All the recent babies I've met, all the new babies in my circle look like the dad first and the most. And then once they reach about a year or two, start to look like the mom in a way that's like really, really obvious. And it's just, that's. That's anecdotal. That's not scientific.
B
Yeah.
A
But yeah, I've had a lot of my mom friends be like, why doesn't this effing baby look like me at all? And you just have to be a little patient. It comes in time, Right.
B
I think it'll come in waves. Yeah. Like what develops and how their face kind of starts developing and stuff like that. So it'll be, It'll be good. My wife is pretty Italian, so.
A
Hell yeah.
B
We'll see what Italian traits that the kid gets.
A
It'll be exciting. Hopefully a very hungry, hungry baby.
B
Yes. Yes.
A
Yeah, obviously. I mean, not obviously. Whatever. I'm not meaning to judge. I just wanted to segue to. You got married. That was when, this year? No, last year. This year.
B
It was the last December. December of 2024.
A
Okay. I am. I've famously said many times on here. I have been putting. We've been engaged for almost three years because I am in charge of planning a wedding and I needed a job. Now I have the job, so I'm getting there. Tips.
B
We've already talked about you planning already, right?
A
What?
B
We've already talked about what a great planner you are.
A
Exactly. So you get it. So I'm trying to now. I said to Dan the other day, I was like, look, the ball's rolling. I've got jobs. I'm gonna start doing this. So I figured I'd ask you because people always get married and go, ugh, I wish I knew before I would have made sure I focused on this or didn't worry about this. Give me your tips and I'm going to write them down.
B
Okay. Okay. I would say the biggest tip is it can get very overwhelming planning a wedding. Number one, obviously you're. I don't know how many people you're planning on, like, inviting to your wedding.
A
Me neither.
B
Yeah. So we probably had 150 people at our wedding.
A
That's a good amount.
B
Big family. And it's very easy to get lost in the moment of there's so many people, and you're trying to make sure everyone's okay. Like, make sure this is. At the end of the day, it's for you two. Like, make sure you spend time with each other and don't get lost in the moment of. Of trying to make sure everyone's okay. Like, that's important. But at the end of the day, make sure you have enough time for you all. And oh, my gosh, take a lot of pictures and soak it all in, because it goes by really quick.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, that whole day just goes by in the blink of an eye, and it's over before you know it. And it stinks when it's over because, you know, it's such a fun time. And you are never going to get that group of people in the same room ever again.
A
That's what's stressing me out.
B
Like, friends and family, they're never gonna be in the same room ever again.
A
I know.
B
So it's a fun experience of people who don't know each other coming together, having fun, because they know that this is just a big party for the two people that they love getting married. So make sure you spend time with each other. That's what it's all about. Make sure you take in every moment because it goes by really quick. And I think those are my main two.
A
Do no, like, tangible. Don't do salmon. There's no, like.
B
Oh, make sure you eat. That's another big thing I have heard that I had. I barely ate at our wedding because there was so much stuff going on. Because people pull you.
A
Yeah.
B
All the time.
A
Yeah. Gotta go do this. Pictures over here doing the toast, coming to the entrance.
B
You pay all this money for food, and, like, you barely get to eat it.
A
I know.
B
And then people come up. They're like, food at your wedding was great, man. I was like, yeah, I didn't have it. I don't know if I can cuss. Okay.
A
I didn't want to make you, but you.
B
Yeah.
A
Okay. Those are good tips.
B
Where do you. What is your ideal spot? Like, tropical. Don't know.
A
I don't know if I'm. I don't really give tropical. I don't. I think, like, you know, I'm from the northeast. He's from the kind of from like, the Northern California, but also Denver are his, like, places he identifies with. It's there's just so many ways to go that my brain freezes and is like, we'll figure that all out later.
B
Right.
A
I wish I had, like, a guiding star. That was like, well, I know I want it to be a destination or whatever, but I don't know. Yeah, I want it to be the best thing ever. And that's all I've got so far. I want him, him and. And it to be the best party. That's all I got.
B
It will be. That's what we did was like, we just want it to be fun for everybody, like, and people. We got married in Aspen, Colorado.
A
That's sick.
B
In December.
A
Okay.
B
Because we love, like, wintertime.
A
Oh, yeah. Cuz you had that, like, furry thing on lapel.
B
My lapel was fur.
A
It was sick.
B
And so we love. We love Colorado, we love the mountains. And that was like a dream destination for us.
A
Colorado, the mountains. These words are resonating with me. Okay, well, none of that was for the podcast. It was just for me personally.
B
Cut all that out.
A
I just wanted you to help me plan my wedding. Next up, this is something that comes up a lot in our podcast. And so I have to ask you, are you the greatest athlete in the history of your highest high school?
B
Oh, no, no, no.
A
Who? Well, where you. I don't know where you went to high school.
B
I went to Bishop McGinnis. It is in Kernersville, North Carolina. No, I think there was a lot of really good.
A
Yeah.
B
Athlete thing. Like, each sport is different. Like, there was some amazing basketball players at my high school. There was some amazing football players. So, no, I don't think I was the best, like, overall athlete. I mean, yeah, I can't drive a car really fast, but, like, there's a lot of guys that could do a lot of things better than I could.
A
Okay, but they couldn't drive a car faster than you.
B
Yeah, but I couldn't.
A
Did you have a cool car in high school?
B
No, I had a Mazda RX8.
A
That sounds nice. That's not nice.
B
It wasn't.
A
Why does that sound nice?
B
Kind of a piece of.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. But it was the first car I ever bought, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me.
A
Yeah, of course.
B
But I wrecked it. Oh.
A
How soon after having it?
B
I had it for probably a year and a half.
A
Okay. That's not great, but not bad.
B
Yeah.
A
What kind of a crap what happened?
B
I wouldn't say it was necessarily my fault.
A
Neither would I.
B
A deer ran out in front of me and I swerved to Miss it and ran off the road humanitarian and hit a tree.
A
Yeah. Oh my God. You sacrificed yourself for a deer.
B
Yeah. Looking back on it.
A
Yikes.
B
I would do things differently at this point.
A
You were Howell.
B
Yes. Seventeen. Yeah.
A
And how. Stupid question. I'm hesitating because this is. Could be a real stupid question. When did you start? You started young driving, like, competitively?
B
Yeah, I started racing when I was nine.
A
Okay. How's that legal? What's up with that?
B
Like go karts, stuff like that? Yeah, stuff. You don't need a license.
A
When. So at this point, when you got in that accident, were you already like, were you going fast? Were you like a kid who liked to go fast?
B
No, actually, like, I was a. I've always been a pretty slow driver on the roads.
A
Explain that to me.
B
Yeah, that people get confused by that a lot. Like, and I've always explained it as I don't really have anywhere to be that quickly that I need to get in trouble for, like, hauling ass on the road.
A
Neither does anybody I know.
B
I don't understand it.
A
They make it up in their minds that it's so funny that you are probably the safest speeder we could have at any given time on the road. And you were like, like, nothing matters that much that I have to go fast.
B
How I make my living is going fast for my job. And if I'm not making money doing it, like, if I'm on the road, like, that's just dumb. Why do I have to.
A
I don't do it for free.
B
Right.
A
That's actually brilliant. I don't speed for free.
B
Yeah, yeah. What am I going to now? I have to pay if I want to speed.
A
Not only free. You'd be paying money. What a brilliant. They pay you to speed.
B
Exactly.
A
Wow.
B
Yeah.
A
You really solved that for me.
B
Yep.
A
So you don't deal with any road rage anxiety?
B
I hate drivers on the road.
A
Okay, tell me more.
B
Oh, just like, I don't know. I think it's with everybody. Sure.
A
But you come from a specific expertise where when someone's a shitty driver, you must be like, ah, right.
B
The rules are different. Right. But at the end of the day, it's still like driving and stuff like that. Like, so I don't know, just people on the road, when they don't, you can just tell. Like, you know, you ever follow a person, you can just tell like this person is either looking at their phone all the time.
A
I mean, a nightmare.
B
Yeah. Or they have no idea what they're doing. They're all over the place. Like, it just kind of upsets me a little bit. Like, just basic common knowledge. Like, how did you pass your DMV test?
A
Yeah. How are you here?
B
Yeah. In this situation, I think they need to up the stakes for dmv, like, to get your license. Like, I feel like they need to start making a little bit more difficult to get your driver's license, because there's some people now that I. It's just bad. Like, really, really bad. Like, and it's gonna hurt people.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, you're gonna.
A
Cause you're a liability. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They really do just let you do it. It's kind of crazy. You're like, I don't think this person should be allowed to do this. They're not paying attention. Being on your phone while you drive is nuts to me.
B
Yeah.
A
I wouldn't even trust you to do it. And you are used to driving while having to do other stuff. No, it freaks me out how comfortable people do. It's nuts. Don't do it.
B
No.
A
Freaks.
B
Freaks.
A
Do you. If you get to an age, we're way in the future now, you're not just dad. You're Grandpa. If you're really, truly blessed, you're a great grandpa at this point. And they say, hey, Ryan, you, we love you so much, and you had such a great career, but the time is we have to take your license away. You just can't drive anymore. Are you gonna be chill about that?
B
It's fine by me, really, If I get to great grandpa status.
A
Yeah.
B
You're probably, what, in your 90s?
A
Maybe.
B
I want to drive.
A
Yeah, drive me around.
B
I want me sitting at home. Yeah, drive me around. I don't want to drive. I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to sit in my house and hang out.
A
What are you, like as a passenger?
B
Oh, I'm chilling. If there's two people and I have some buddies who are like, I have to drive. I'm not riding. Passenger. I'm driving. That's fine with me. I'll be your passenger, Princess.
A
Yes.
B
I have zero.
A
Yes. Ryan Blaney's passenger Princess.
B
I do not care whatsoever.
A
It's the best job. You just sit there. You get to do the music.
B
Yeah. You have one job. You have to do the music.
A
Yeah. Or if you're driving and someone's like, I would love a coffee, you go, let me see if we've got any coffee on our room Route A. Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
B
Yeah, I love that passenger I'm fully for it. My wife is way more of a speed demon too, than I am.
A
Really?
B
Yeah. If we got to get somewhere fast, she's probably driving.
A
Wow.
B
And she. She's like, I'm driving. Like, yes, ma'.
A
Am.
B
Like, okay, you got it, huh?
A
I'll just sit here and look pretty.
B
Yeah.
A
All right. We should probably talk a little bit about racing. I had. We had Bubba explain the playoff to us, and I totally remember what he said. But for anybody listening who didn't hear that episode, how does this playoff work?
B
Gosh, I'm probably going to get it wrong.
A
No, you'll get it. It's not a quiz if you get it wrong. Shut up. He does it for a little.
B
So the simplified version of our playoffs. So we run 36 times a year in the final 10 weeks. So we run 26 regular season races.
A
Okay. And those are done. Done.
B
Now they're done. And then the final 10 weeks, they take the top 16 drivers. Everyone else is still racing. Right. There's still 40 cars out there. They take the top 16 drivers and they run three races. Three races. Three races in one race. So after the first group of three races, they cut the bottom four that are in points.
A
Okay. So now we're down to 12.
B
Yeah. So it goes from 16 to 12, 12 to eight, and then four for a final one race playoff. And how you move on from the rounds is either you win one of those races in that round and it automatically boosts you to the next one, or you are the top. You are not. You just can't be the bottom four in points. And that's like average finishes.
A
Okay.
B
It gets. It is a little confusing. I do wish it was a little bit different, but, like, that's kind of the simplified version of it. Yeah. When you move on and then.
A
So where are we at in it right now?
B
So we are in the.
A
The.
B
This weekend is the final race of the first round.
A
Okay.
B
So.
A
And did you win a race? So you're already through or you're not.
B
Yet, but I'm gonna. My points, I'm way above the cut line, so I feel pretty good about moving on.
A
So do you in that situation, like, not even care about winning?
B
No, like, it's. It's. I would say if it's even more of an emphasis on winning and you take chances because you are a pretty good ways. Ways away from the cut line.
A
Yeah. You're safe.
B
It's not like I'm like two points from the cut line and it's really tiptoe kind of thing. So you can be a little bit more aggressive. Yeah.
A
And you are famously aggressive. You're not. You're too nice. And too nice is not aggressive.
B
Some may say.
A
Some are saying. And I wanted to disprove them.
B
I've heard it. It's in the tabloids.
A
As a person, you're very nice. I want to make sure you know that.
B
Yeah. Thank you.
A
Yeah.
B
I think it's a little bit different when competitive atmosphere to not.
A
Yeah.
B
Like, and I think. I think all athletes are insane. And I'm telling my. I'm that person, too. I think we're. I think everyone.
A
All different brands of insane.
B
I think all athletes have multiple personalities. They have that multiple personality disorder, I think.
A
Sure.
B
All of them, when you either step on the court or put a helmet on or on, you know, baseball field, like, you become a different person.
A
Yeah.
B
It's just the competitive aspect of it. Like, I have a way different personality while I'm racing than what I am outside of the car because I care very much about what I do and how I make a living, and I'm passionate about it. But outside, I'm a little bit more laid back than I am there.
A
Does he have a name? The you that you become when you're driving?
B
No, I don't think so.
A
Okay. You paused like you were going to tell it to me. Like it was a secret.
B
Yeah.
A
I was excited for a moment. We were gonna get a Sasha fierce moment where we get to find out who you become when you perform.
B
I had an alter ego for a while.
A
Okay. And tell me about.
B
I guess that's what I was thinking about.
A
Right.
B
It was just. It was for one. One winter, we were going on a cruise with my family and some. Some buddies and friends and stuff, and I was drinking. You ever heard of Fosters? It's an Australian beer.
A
Yeah. Only an export, though. They don't drink it there. They just.
B
Yeah, no, they hate it there. Yeah. I was a huge Foster's guy for, like, one winner.
A
Very funny.
B
Yeah. It was just. It was on the cruise and I drank it and there's a big can. It looks like an oil can. And I forget what.
A
You definitely did the Fosters the whole trip? Yeah.
B
Oh, yeah. It was very annoying. My family hated it. My buddies hated it. But I would drink all these Fosters and I would get super drunk and have this, like, alter ego, and I can't remember the name they would call me. That's what I was trying to think about. But they were like, oh, yeah. Here comes so and so.
A
Crocodile Dundee, because that's what I'd call it.
B
Might have been that. No, it was some name. I can't remember. That's really funny. That's what I was thinking about.
A
Just drinking Fosters.
B
Yeah.
A
But only a year. That's exactly right.
B
Yeah.
A
You don't want to spend too long on that bit.
B
Yeah, I didn't. Yeah, I didn't. It's funny because then I had a buddy come over from. He moved over to the US From New Zealand. And I got. This was five years ago. And I was like, hey, Foster's pretty big down there, isn't it? New Zealand, Australia. He's like, mate, that stuff. Shit. Yeah, well, I like it.
A
We wouldn't touch it. That's not for us. We just ship it off to you. Just. Okay. Again, I always just get so nervous of looking very stupid. But racing, obviously there are different types of motorsports. Do you automatically care about all of them or are you like. That's F1 to me. Does not matter. I'm very focused on, like, what.
B
No, I. I love all forms of racing.
A
Yeah.
B
I'm just a fan of. Of motorsports because it's what I do and kind of fascinated by, like. Yeah, this series races, but it's a different car and it's kind of different style, so it's always fun to compare and stuff like that. So. Yeah, I mean, I watch a lot of F1 and Indy car and, you know, MotoGP, you know, SuperCross, stuff like that.
A
I could keep naming some if you wanted.
B
Yeah, right. Yeah. What else?
A
The Truck series is something that's nascar.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
But it's still racing. Okay, what's the one where they go just really fast down a straight drag racing. Right.
B
And hr? Yeah. I don't watch as much.
A
Okay, pick the one he doesn't like.
B
Yeah. Yeah, Josh.
A
Okay. Sorry.
B
But, yeah, I love. I love all forms of racing.
A
The reason I ask is because the United states is entering F1 with Cadillac next year. Is that gonna have some sort of effect that you guys feel in nascar? I guess would be the first question. Is that gonna change the landscape in some way or is it.
B
I don't think it affects us any.
A
Do you think that it would be possible ever again? Is this the dumbest question you've ever heard, or do you think it would be possible for someone to try a double the way Kyle Larson did, But with like, F1 and NASCAR?
B
I don't know. The schedule would have to align. Like, they would have to be racing in the U.S. sure.
A
Imagine everything else makes sense and it's doable. Is it doable, driver wise? Like, it's.
B
No, No, I don't think so. Like, yeah, it would be. I don't think you'd be able to do it. I don't think you'll ever see that. I'm calling it right now.
A
Okay. Why?
B
Because F1, the way it works is, like, you can't just go put a car in the field for one guy to go do a one off race. Like, the way that they set their system is a lot more strict, I think, than like an IndyCar or NASCAR, things like that. So you would never be able to do that.
A
Never.
B
Unfortunately.
A
So young kids watching this who needed something to motivate them to go do something people thought they could never do.
B
They could do the double in any.
A
Car in this car. No, no, no. This man said this mean, famously mean man said, you can't do it. No one will ever do it.
B
It's never gonna happen. I don't think it's ever happened.
A
I think they'll play this clip in.
B
The documentary I hope they do about.
A
The kid up and does it, and he'll say, ryan Blaney. He said I couldn't do it.
B
Hey, I'm rooting for that kid.
A
No, you're not.
B
That kid wants to do it if I'm still alive. If that happens.
A
Yeah, you'll be great. Great grandpa.
B
You can egg my house and I'll be there. Cuz I'm not going anywhere and I'll.
A
Be there egging the house. That'll be me. All right, quick hits, before we let you go, there's a Chipotle bowl named the Ryan Blaney Bowl. How did you get that? Sponsors, I assume.
B
Yeah.
A
What's in it?
B
So it's. Yeah, it's my Chipotle order. I love Chipotle.
A
Yeah.
B
And I'm not just saying that because I have.
A
No, he is.
B
So I have. I get a bowl, obviously. Brown rice, black beans, chicken and steak, hot sauce, guacamole, cheese and queso and chips. And I dip the chips in it. I don't eat it with a fork.
A
That's great.
B
I go, chips.
A
Smart.
B
So, yeah, fans could order the Blaney bowl and just kind of. Yeah.
A
Or they could. Or you don't have to.
B
You don't have to.
A
You can.
B
I don't care if you do or not. Not. But yeah.
A
Is that exciting when they name a bowl after you?
B
Yeah, a little bit.
A
Do you ever think about the poor Person who works at Chipotle that has to know what that is. When someone says they want a Blaney bowl and they go like, God damn, I think anyone's going to order this.
B
Yeah. If it was, like, the first week of it, they're like, what the is a bl.
A
Do you want chicken or do you want steak? And you're like, both, actually, but it's in the Blaney Bowl.
B
Yeah. Double meat. Double meat.
A
Ew. Don't ever say double meat to me ever again. Logan. Lucky. Did you know we were both in that movie? Movie?
B
No, Technically, you were in that movie.
A
Technically. I think it's at the end. There's a TV on in the bar and Garbage time. My old show is on the tv.
B
Really?
A
So we are credited together in that film.
B
Did they. So, okay, so when that movie came out, did they reach out to y'?
A
All? Yeah, I. It was. I vaguely remember them being like, would it be okay if we used your show in this movie? And I was like, why would I say no to that?
B
Of course. That's cool.
A
And then. Yeah, so it's pretty sick.
B
That's awesome. Yeah. I was a cake delivery boy in that movie.
A
Yeah. You had a part.
B
Yeah.
A
Did you have to audition for it or they just asked you to do it?
B
They just asked me to do it.
A
Wow. Nepo.
B
It was very Nepo. I know. I might get a tattoo.
A
Wow.
B
Nepo, baby.
A
Nepo.
B
Yeah.
A
And Glass Case of Emotion. You guys had very passionate fans, your podcast. So I. I don't know if you wanted to say anything to them. I just feel like I. My first interaction with you was with your fans, being like, you need to talk. You need to go on Blaney's podcast. You need to answer him. They would. They're just very. And so I wanted us to first of all, say hi to them so we can clip it for the Internet.
B
They used to call themselves Glass Holes.
A
That's very funny.
B
Yeah. That was a fun podcast. We did that for, like, three or four years.
A
Yeah.
B
And it just kind of died out.
A
Yeah. And now podcasts. Booming.
B
Booming. I know.
A
And where are you?
B
We missed the.
A
It get back in.
B
It was like buying bitcoin.
A
I know.
B
And then you bail sold it, and now it's just ridiculous.
A
But you sold GameStop. That's what happened, right? Yeah.
B
Yeah. People always want that podcast to come back. I don't know if it ever will. Yeah. I don't know if it ever will. Maybe one day, but I got too much going on right now.
A
Yeah, you're very busy.
B
I can't. Maybe I'll have another podcast, and it'll just be about dad life, like.
A
Okay.
B
Hey, my kid had another blowout.
A
Yeah.
B
It's ever happened to y', all, like, great. You ever get on your hands, like, I think people would relate to that.
A
I think so, too. Y. Yeah, I think so, too. And then when your poor kid tries to become a racer, just like his dad and granddad. And grand granddad. And people will play clips.
B
Right.
A
Of how shit all over you.
B
This poor kid when he was six.
A
Months old, he can't be a racer. He can't even keep his own poop in his pants.
B
Did you know we met in, like, 2016? Do you remember that?
A
Yeah, I assumed we met when I was in.
B
No, you don't remember that.
A
Which Super bowl was 2016?
B
I believe it was.
A
I assumed we met when I did NASCAR stuff. Mm.
B
Mm. We met before that. We met before that. We were at some.
A
What's. Where were. What's today?
E
Broncos.
A
Panthers. 2016. Broncos. Panthers. I was. That would be the year that I was in San Francisco leading up to the super bowl, and then at the Super Bowl, I went back to LA.
B
What was the night. What was 17?
A
That would be. Do it from your brain, Katie.
E
Falcons and pets.
B
Oh, that's what it was.
A
Okay.
B
That's. That's the year we were at. I don't know where was this before.
A
Or after the game?
B
It was before. It was like the night before. We were at some event and, like, we walked by on the street.
A
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We were going into the. I want to say, like, ESPN or.
B
I think it was ESPN or something.
A
There was some party.
B
Yeah.
A
That I was. Could not get into. Yeah.
B
Okay.
A
I remember now. I was hammered. I was so drunk because I knew we were going to a party. I wasn't. The super bowl week for me was always being at something cool but walking up to it, assuming I wasn't gonna get in. So it was very, like, let me get hammered. So if we don't get in, I can just go. This is fine. And is it hurting me at all?
B
Yeah.
A
But I remember now. We were walking in and you were walking out.
B
Yeah. Yeah. That was fun.
A
What did we talk about?
B
Oh, nothing. I just. I. I just asked you for a.
A
Picture, and we took a picture.
B
Yeah.
A
Do you have it?
B
It's somewhere. I got it. I was wearing.
A
I'm pretty drunk in it.
B
I was wearing my. Who the fuck is Thurgill Simpson T shirt.
A
Great.
B
And you loved it. Apparently, you knew who Sturgill Simpson was. I know you don't remember this because you were hammered. I distinctly remember this. Yeah.
A
It's so funny.
B
Yeah. Yeah. I meant I'm like, oh, Katie, can I have a picture?
A
So funny.
B
It was funny. That's it. That's the good review. First memory I got.
A
Yeah, It's a really good review.
B
Yeah.
A
I was over here thinking, because when we went to the museum, the NASCAR museum, and we did a bunch of stuff down there, and then I went to Daytona one year, but I don't think I saw you there. That's so funny.
B
Yeah, man. I should have made something up. I'd be like, you were a complete bitch.
A
You were such a bitch. You were like, okay, drive, why don't you? And it didn't even make sense. I would have forgotten that ever happened. Happened.
B
Yeah.
A
Wow.
B
It was fun.
A
And what was.
B
Look at us now.
A
I know. What was that, like 10 year, 20 years ago?
B
17. Yeah. Like eight years ago.
A
That sucks. That feels like two years ago to me. That sucks.
B
Time ago.
A
I know. And now you're going to be out here being a champion. Do we say good luck to you? Is that. Is that. I don't want to jinx it. Like, if. What's the NASCAR thing to say?
B
I'll take good luck.
A
Okay. Good luck.
B
Thank you.
A
With this and with being a dad.
B
Thanks.
A
When does the. When do we know for sure? Like, when does it all end? You're racing, not the dad.
B
First week of November.
A
Okay. So it'll be right before you get really ready to time it this way on purpose.
B
Yeah. So our due date's, like, early December, so we got, like, a month to kind of get our stuff together, and people are like, oh, you timed that great. I was like, well, that's not.
A
If you've tried to have a kid, you know, that's not really just throwing.
B
Darts at a dartboard.
A
It works. Ow. Ow. Well, congratulations on the baby that's coming and on the other stuff that will hopefully be coming. Good luck.
B
Thank you.
A
And thank you for coming and being our first guest in our new studio.
B
Yeah, well, thanks for having me, and congrats on the new studio as well. And, yeah, good luck on wedding planning, too.
A
Oh, God, thank you. You're gonna come back in, like, two years and be like, you still haven't gotten married. All right, that's it for the podcast. Our first podcast in the new studio. Very exciting.
